He became a lecturer of Kaohsiung Medical University in 1987. After a one-half year research fellowship at Chiba University Japan under the instruction of Professor Masao Omata (1991 to 1992), Dr. Chuang returned to Kaohsiung Medical University and obtained his PhD degree in 1993. He was promoted to Professor in the School of Medicine, Kaohsiung Medical University in 2004. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, a member of various editorial boards and a reviewer of several scientific journals, and has published more than 250 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Chuang served as the Director of the Faculty of Medicine, Kaohsiung Medical University (2005 to 2008) and served as President of the Taiwan Association for the Study of the Liver (2010 and 2011). Currently, he is the Director of the Hepatitis Prevention and Treatment Center and Chief of the Hepatobiliary Division, Department of Internal Medicine, Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital.
