Abstract
A ternary nanocomposite photoelectrode composed of cadmium sulfide (CdS), polyaniline (PANI), and bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) was successfully designed by combining cyclic voltammetry (CV) with electrochemical deposition and high-temperature calcination. The first synthesized CdS/PANI/BiVO4 composite was used as a photoelectrochemical (PEC) monitoring platform for glutathione (GSH). The ternary CdS/PANI/BiVO4 nanocomposites exhibited higher PEC activity, which was attributed to the accelerated electron transfer by the loading of CdS and PANI, which enables the material surface to better adsorb the electrons separated by GSH, thereby oxidizing it into GSSH. The photoanodes were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and photoelectrochemical experiments. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the BiVO4 electrode modified with CdS and PANI exhibited a linear response in the concentration range of 0.1-20 μM with a sensitivity of 0.669 μA mM-1 cm-2 and a detection limit of 40 nM. Moreover, the PEC sensor exhibits good reproducibility and long-term stability. In summary, the designed materials have excellent electrochemical properties, which make them ideal candidates for PEC detection of GSH.

Abstract
Glutathione (L-γ-glutamyl-cysteinyl-glycine, GSH) is a tripeptide synthesized through consecutive enzymatic reactions. Among its several metabolic functions in cells, the main one is the potential to act as an endogenous antioxidant agent. GSH has been the focus of numerous studies not only due to its role in the redox status of biological systems but also due to its biotechnological characteristics. GSH is usually obtained by fermentation and shows a variety of applications by the pharmaceutical and food industry. Therefore, the search for new strategies to improve the production of GSH during fermentation is crucial. This mini review brings together recent papers regarding the principal parameters of the biotechnological production of GSH by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In this context, aspects, such as the medium composition (amino acids, alternative raw materials) and the use of technological approaches (control of osmotic and pressure conditions, magnetic field (MF) application, fed-batch process) were considered, along with genetic engineering knowledge, trends, and challenges in viable GSH production. Abstract
γ-Glutamyl cysteine ligases (Gcls) catalyze the first step of glutathione synthesis in prokaryotes and many eukaryotes. This study aimed to determine the biochemical properties of three different Gcls from strains of Limosilactobacillus reuteri that accumulate γ-glutamyl dipeptides. Gcl1, Gcl2, and Gcl3 were heterologously expressed in Escherichia coli and purified by affinity chromatography. Gcl1, Gcl2, and Gcl2 exhibited biochemical with respect to the requirement for metal ions, the optimum pH and temperature of activity, and the kinetic constants for the substrates cysteine and glutamate. The substrate specificities of the three Gcls to 14 amino acids were assessed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. All three Gcls converted ala, met, glu, and gln into the corresponding γ-glutamyl dipeptides. None of the three were active with val, asp, and his. Gcl1 and Gcl3 but not Gcl2 formed γ-glu-leu, γ-glu-ile, and γ-glu-phe; Gcl3 exhibited stronger activity with gly, pro, and asp when compared to Gcl2. Phylogenetic analysis of Gcl and the Gcl-domain of GshAB in lactobacilli demonstrated that most of Gcls were present in heterofermentative lactobacilli, while GshAB was identified predominantly in homofermentative lactobacilli. This distribution suggests a different ecological role of the enzyme in homofermentative and heterofermentative lactobacilli. In conclusion, three Gcls exhibited similar biochemical properties but differed with respect to their substrate specificity and thus the synthesis of kokumi-active γ-glutamyl dipeptides. Abstract
Citrinin (CIT) contamination has been reported in agricultural foods and is known to be nephrotoxic to human and animals. In the present study, the proteomes and transcriptomes of C. podzolicus Y3 treated with or without 10 μg/mL CIT were compared by two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) and RNA sequencing, respectively. The proteomics results showed that there were 23 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs), 8 DEPs were up-regulated and 15 DEPs were significantly down-regulated. Transcriptomic analysis showed that 1208 genes were differentially expressed, 551 (43.05%) DEGs were up regulated and 657 (56.95%) were down-regulated. These results showed that the CIT treatment caused DNA damage, oxidative stress and cell apoptosis in C. podzolicus Y3. CIT treatment also activated the defense response (DNA repair and drug resistance biological process, antioxidative activity and TCA cycle) as well as drug metabolism (synthesize the CIT-degrading enzymes) in yeast cells to respond to CIT stress and degrade CIT.
