Synthesis, structure, and properties of Schiff base iodobismuthate and its alteration in DMSO solution

Synthesis, Crystal, and Electronic Structure of (HpipeH2)2[Sb2I10](I2), with I2 Molecules Linking Sb2X10 Dimers into a Polymeric Anion: A Strategy for Optimizing a Hybrid Compound's Band Gap

In searching for a tool for optimizing the band gap of a hybrid compound capable of serving as a light-harvesting material in lead-free photovoltaics, we synthesized a new polyiodoantimonate (HpipeH₂)₂[Sb₂I₁₀](I₂) and analyzed its crystal and electronic structure by application of X-ray crystal structure analysis, Raman and diffuse reflectance spectroscopies, and quantum chemical calculations. It was demonstrated that I₂ molecules link Sb₂I₁₀ edge-sharing octahedra into zig-zag chains, whereas the organic cations link inorganic anionic chains into a 3D structure featuring a complex pattern of covalent bonds and non-covalent interactions. Overall, these features provide the background for forming the electronic structure with a narrow band gap of 1.41 eV, therefore being a versatile tool for optimizing the band gap of a potential light-harvesting hybrid compound.

Dibismuthates as Linking Units for Bis-Zwitterions and Coordination Polymers

Adducts of bismuth trihalides BiX₃ (X = Cl, Br, I) and the PS₃ ligand (PS₃ = P(C₆H₄-o-CH₂SCH₃)₃) react with HCl to form inorganic/organic hybrids with the general formula [HPS₃BiX₄]₂. On the basis of their solid-state structures determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, these compounds exhibit discrete bis-zwitterionic assemblies consisting of two phosphonium units [HPS₃]⁺ linked to a central dibismuthate core [Bi₂X₈]^2– via S→Bi dative interactions. Remarkably, the phosphorus center of the PS₃ ligand undergoes protonation with hydrochloric acid. This is in stark contrast to the protonation of phosphines commonly observed with hydrogen halides resulting in equilibrium. To understand the important factors in this protonation reaction, ³¹P NMR experiments and DFT computations have been performed. Furthermore, the dibismuthate linker was utilized to obtain the coordination polymer {[AgPS₃BiCl₃(OTf)]₂(CH₃CN)₂}_∞, in which dicationic [Ag(PS₃)]₂²⁺ macrocycles containing five-coordinate silver centers connect the dianionic [Bi₂Cl₆(OTf)₂]^2– dibismuthate fragments. The bonding situation in these dibismuthates has been investigated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and DFT calculations (NBO analysis, AIM analysis, charge distribution).

The potential of dibismuthates [Bi₂X₈]²⁻ as building blocks for the synthesis of bis-zwitterions and coordination polymers has been shown. The structures of these compounds and the bonding in the dibismuthate linkers have been studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and DFT calculations.

Broad-band luminescence involving fluconazole antifungal drug in a lead-free bismuth iodide perovskite: Combined experimental and computational insights

The synthesis and characterization of a lead-free perovskite-type material, (C₁₃H₁₄N₆F₂O)₂ Bi₂I₁₀ is reported. It exhibits a zero-dimensional (0D) Bi₂I₁₀^4- octahedral unit, surrounded by a flexible tripodal antifungal ligand (H₂Fluconazole)²⁺. The several intermolecular interactions of the independent cation and the bismuth iodide octahedra were tested via the Hirshfeld surface analysis. The detailed interpretation of the vibrational modes was carried out. The band gap (Eg) of 2.10 eV agrees with the theoretical values. Upon photoexcitation, the crystals exhibit a broadband green emission peaked at 534 nm, which originates from electronic transitions within the inorganic cluster [Bi₂I₁₀]^4-. The theoretical calculations were carried out using DFT and TD-DFT methods to appraise the molecular geometry, vibrational spectra, electronic absorption spectra, frontier molecular orbitals (FOMs) and global reactivity descriptors. Calculations reveal that the energy gap (Eg) and other chemical reactivity descriptors are primarily linked to the inorganic anion and the triazolium rings (A and B) of the organic cation reflecting their importance in the activity and the antioxidant ability of the molecule.

Crystal structures and hydrogen-bonding analysis of a series of solvated ammonium salts of molybdenum(II) chloride clusters

Charge-assisted hydrogen bonding plays a significant role in the crystal structures of solvates of ionic com-pounds, especially when the cation or cations are primary ammonium salts. We report the crystal structures of four ammonium salts of molybdenum halide cluster solvates where we observe significant hydrogen bonding between the solvent molecules and cations. The crystal structures of bis-(anilinium) octa-μ3-chlorido-hexa-chlorido-octa-hedro-hexa-molybdate N,N-di--methyl-formamide tetra-solvate, (C6H8N)2[Mo6Cl8Cl6]·4C3H7NO, (I), p-phenyl-enedi-ammonium octa-μ3-chlorido-hexa-chlorido-octa-hedro-hexa-mol-yb-date N,N-di-methyl-formamide hexa-solvate, (C6H10N2)[Mo6Cl8Cl6]·6C3H7NO, (II), N,N'-(1,4-phenyl-ene)bis-(propan-2-iminium) octa-μ3-chlorido-hexa-chlo-rido-octa-hedro-hexa-molybdate acetone tris-olvate, (C12H18N2)[Mo6Cl8Cl6]·3C3H6O, (III), and 1,1'-dimethyl-4,4'-bipyridinium octa-μ3-chlo-rido-hexa-chlorido-octa-hedro-hexa-molybdate N,N-di-methyl-formamide tetra-solvate, (C12H14N2)[Mo6Cl8Cl6]·4C3H7NO, (IV), are reported and described. In (I), the anilinium cations and N,N-di-methyl-formamide (DMF) solvent mol-ecules form a cyclic R 4 2(8) hydrogen-bonded motif centered on a crystallographic inversion center with an additional DMF mol-ecule forming a D(2) inter-action. The p-phenyl-enedi-ammonium cation in (II) forms three D(2) inter-actions between the three N-H bonds and three independent N,N-di-methyl-formamide mol-ecules. The dication in (III) is a protonated Schiff base solvated by acetone mol-ecules. Compound (IV) contains a methyl viologen dication with N,N-di-methyl-formamide mol-ecules forming close contacts with both aromatic and methyl H atoms.
