Abstract
BACKGROUND The effect of preoperative natural killer (NK) cell abnormalities on postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) after thoracoscopic radical resection of lung cancer is still unclear. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the preoperative NK cell ratio and PPCs. METHODS The patients who underwent thoracoscopic radical resection for lung cancer were divided into a normal group and an abnormal group according to whether the proportion of preoperative NK cells was within the reference range. The main outcome was the incidence of PPCs during postoperative hospitalization. The demographic and perioperative data were collected. Propensity score matching was used to exclude systematic bias. Univariate logistic regression was used to test the relationship between the preoperative NK cell ratio and the incidence of PPCs. The restrictive cubic spline curve was used to analyze the dose-effect relationship between the preoperative NK cell ratio and the incidence of PPCs. RESULTS A total of 4161 patients were included. After establishing a matching cohort, 910 patients were included in the statistical analysis. The incidence of PPCs in the abnormal group was greater than that in the normal group (55.2% vs. 31.6%). The incidence of PPCs first decreased and then increased with increasing NK cell ratio. The proportion of patients with Grade 3 or higher PPCs in the normal group was lower than that in the abnormal group [108 (23.7%) vs. 223 (49%)]. The indwelling time of the thoracic drainage tube in the abnormal group was longer than that in the normal group [3 (3, 4) vs. 3 (3, 5)]. A preoperative abnormal NK cell ratio constituted a risk factor for PPCs in each subgroup. CONCLUSION Lung cancer patients with an abnormal proportion of peripheral blood NK cells before surgery were more likely to develop PPCs, their disease degree was more severe, and they had a prolonged duration of chest tube indwelling. Compared with those with abnormally high NK cell ratios, those with abnormally low NK cell ratios had more pronounced PPCs.

Abstract
Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a rare but highly invasive cancer, with its incidence rising in recent years. Currently, surgery remains the most definitive therapeutic option for CCA. However, similar to other malignancies, most CCA patients are not eligible for surgical intervention at the time of diagnosis. The chemotherapeutic regimen of gemcitabine combined with cisplatin is the standard treatment for advanced CCA, but its effectiveness is often hampered by therapeutic resistance. Recent research highlights the remarkable plasticity of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) within the tumor microenvironment (TME). TAMs play a crucial dual role in either promoting or suppressing tumor development, depending on the factors that polarize them toward pro-tumorigenic or anti-tumorigenic phenotypes, as well as their interactions with cancer cells and other stromal components. In this review, we critically examine recent studies on TAMs in CCA, detailing the expression patterns and prognostic significance of different TAM subtypes in CCA, the mechanisms by which TAMs influence CCA progression and immune evasion, and the potential for reprogramming TAMs to enhance anticancer therapies. This review aims to provide a framework for deeper future research.

Abstract
A wide variety of primary and secondary lymphoma types involves the skin. However, reports with comparisons between both groups are limited in Taiwan. We retrospectively enrolled all cutaneous lymphomas and evaluated their clinicopathologic features. There were 221 cases of lymphoma: 182 (82.3%) primary and 39 (17.7%) secondary. Mycosis fungoides was the most common primary T-cell lymphoma, 92 (41.7%) cases, followed by CD30-positive T-cell lymphoproliferative disorders including lymphomatoid papulosis (n = 33, 14.9%) and cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma (n = 12, 5.4%). The most frequent primary B-cell lymphomas were marginal zone lymphoma (n = 8, 3.6%) and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), leg type (n = 8, 3.6%). DLBCL including variants was the most common secondary lymphoma involving skin. Most primary lymphomas presented at low-stage (T-cell, 86%; B-cell, 75%), whereas the majority of secondary lymphomas presented at high-stage (T-cell, 94%; B-cell, 100%). Patients with secondary lymphomas had an older mean age, more frequent B symptoms, lower serum albumin and hemoglobin, and a higher frequency of atypical lymphocytes in blood than those with primary lymphomas. In primary lymphomas, older age, lymphoma types, decreased lymphocyte counts and atypical lymphocytes in blood were poorer prognostic factors. In secondary lymphoma patients, lymphoma types, high serum lactate dehydrogenase and low hemoglobin levels predicted poorer survival. We found that the distribution of primary cutaneous lymphomas in Taiwan mirrors that of other Asian countries but shows some differences as compared with Western countries. Primary cutaneous lymphomas have a better prognosis than secondary lymphomas. Histologic classification of lymphomas highly correlated with disease presentation and prognosis.

Abstract
Background Natural killer (NK) cells are important for the prognosis of multiple cancers, but their prognostic value remains to be evaluated in patients with gastric cancer. Thus, this retrospective study was conducted at a single center to investigate the association between percentage of NK cells in the peripheral blood and prognosis in patients with gastric cancer. Material/Methods The data of 180 gastric cancer patients were collected. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression models were applied to screen candidate prognostic factors. A time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curve was employed to evaluate the ability of NK cells as a prognostic marker. Furthermore, we determined the correlation between the NK cells percentage and other parameters and their clinical significance. Results Patients with a higher percentage of NK cells survived longer than those with a lower percentage of NK cells. Cox analysis revealed that NK cells could be used as an independent indicator for patients with gastric cancer. The percentage of NK cells was positively correlated with lymphocyte count and albumin, but was negatively correlated with CA125 and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio. The area under the curve for NK cells in predicting the 5-year survival rate for gastric cancer was 0.792. This increased to 0.830 upon combining NK cells with neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio. Patients at early T, N, and clinical stages possessed a significantly higher percentage of NK cells compared to those at advanced T, N, and clinical stages of gastric cancer. Conclusions Our results suggest that a higher percentage of NK cells predicts is associated with longer survival of gastric cancer patients and could serve as an independent prognostic biomarker.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Innate limitations of morphological diagnosis of T/NK-cell neoplasms mean that they can be misdiagnosed or missed, especially when mixed with a variety of benign and reactive conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the application value of multiparameter flow cytometry immunophenotyping (MFCI) in screening and diagnosing T/NK-cell neoplasms with cytology specimens. MATERIAL AND METHODS The clinical and pathological characteristics of 1028 newly diagnosed cases from Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center who provided a cytology specimen between June 2010 and January 2016 with correlated histology diagnosis and clinical confirmation were retrospectively reviewed. MFCI was used for screening, diagnosis and typing. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) in diagnosis of T/NK-cell neoplasms were calculated. RESULTS There were 606 males and 422 females in 1028cases, with a mean age of 47.5 years (range 9-86 years). Specimens used for cytologic diagnosis included 996 FNAs, 2 US-FNAs, 13 EUS-FNAs and 17 effusions. Screening for types of lymphoma of MFCI, 139 (13.52 %) cases were T/NK cell lymphoma, 3 (0.29 %) cases were B cell lymphoma T-NHL and B-NHL coexist. A total of 146 suspected T/NK-cell neoplasms were screened out (sensitivity = 94.64 %, specificity = 95.63 % PPV = 72.60 %, NPV = 99.32 %) by MFCI, with 112 (76.71 %) histologically confirmed cases and 6 (4.11 %) false-negative cases identified (3 cases diagnosed as B-cell neoplasms and 1 case as T-cell neoplasm with B-cell neoplasm, which also were confirmed by gene rearrangement. 2 cases were suspicious T-cell-immunophenotypic abnormalities). When used at the diagnostic level, a total of 88 T/NK-cell neoplasms were identified (sensitivity = 68.75 %, specificity = 98.80 %, PPV = 87.50 %, NPV = 96.28 %) with 11 false-positive cases recognized, 9 of which showed typical immunophenotypic T-cell neoplasms features, and 2 exhibited aberrant T immunophenotype. CONCLUSIONS MFCI has high sensitivity and specificity in the screening and diagnosis of T/NK-cell neoplasms and may be useful as an alternative diagnosis method in cytology specimens.

Abstract
Background The association between natural killer (NK) cells and survival in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients remains controversial. This study aimed to clarify the prognostic value of peripheral blood NK cells in CRC patients. Methods A total of 447 CRC patients who underwent radical surgery and chemotherapy were retrospectively analyzed. Cox regression analyses were used to identify independent prognostic indicators. Correlation between NK cell percentage and other clinicopathological features (gender, age, histological grade, tumor stage, immune cells, and inflammatory indicators) was analyzed. The prognostic values of the combinations of NK cell percentage and other clinicopathological features were also determined. Results Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that NK cell percentage in the peripheral blood was an independent prognostic indicator in CRC patients. A higher percentage of NK cells indicated a longer survival time than a lower percentage. NK cell percentage was positively correlated to the T and B lymphocyte counts and negatively correlated to the patients’ age and albumin levels. With an area of 0.741 under a receiver operating characteristic curve, NK cells have a moderate predictive value for 3rd-year survival in CRC. This area increased to 0.851 by combining NK cell percentage with the B lymphocyte count. Elderly patients and those at an advanced clinical stage presented a lower percentage of NK cells than younger patients and those at an early clinical stage. Conclusions This study demonstrated that NK cells in the blood were an independent predictor of survival in CRC patients, and the combined count of NK cells and B lymphocytes could increase the prognostic value.

Abstract
Hypertrophic scars (HTS) commonly occurred after burn and trauma. It was characterized by the excessive deposition of extracellular matrix with the inadequate remodeling, which could result in severe physiological and psychological problems. However, the effective available prevention and treatment measures were still limited. The main pathological feature of HTS was the excessive formation of myofibroblasts, and they persist in the repaired tissue. To better understand the mechanics of this process, this review focused on the characteristics and formation of myofibroblasts, the main effector cells in HTS. We summarized the present theories and opinions on myofibroblasts formation from the perspective of related signaling pathways and epigenetic regulation, such as DNA methylation, miRNA/lncRNA/ceRNA action, histone modification, and so forth for a better understanding on the development of HTS. This information might assist in developing effective experimental and clinical treatment strategies. Additionally, we also summarized currently known clinical strategies for HTS treatment, including traditional drugs, molecular medicine, stem cells, and exosomes.
