Abstract
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) disproportionately affects certain sub-populations, including people with experience of incarceration (PWEI). Little is known about how perceptions of HCV and treatment have changed despite simplifications in testing and treatment in carceral settings. Nineteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with people living with or having a history of HCV infection released from Quebec provincial prison. Interviews were guided by the Common Sense Self-Regulation Model (CS-SRM) and aimed to explore cognitive and emotional representations of HCV and coping strategies. Among the 19 participants, seven (37%) were diagnosed with HCV in prison and 14 (74%) had previously received HCV treatment. Participants' HCV illness perceptions were influenced by fear (of HCV transmission, death, and the well-being of family) and stigma (related to HCV, injection drug use, and incarceration). While some sought education and social and professional support, others self-isolated or engaged in high-risk behaviors to cope. Despite advances in HCV treatment, PWEI continue to experience various forms of stigma and fear surrounding their HCV diagnosis, resulting in delayed HCV care. These findings provide insights into how prison-based healthcare providers can better utilize HCV illness perceptions to evaluate willingness to engage in HCV care among PWEI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Universal "opt-out" human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or hepatitis C virus (HCV) testing involves testing individuals for HIV or HCV regardless of symptoms, unless they decline. Little is known about the characteristics of individuals who decline. METHODS We conducted a retrospective, medical record review of adults evaluated at an outpatient clinic in South Carolina. "Opt-out" HIV/HCV testing was implemented in Feb 2019; we reviewed medical records of individuals evaluated in May - July 2019. We excluded individuals who did not meet age-based screening criteria (HIV: 18-65 years; HCV: 18-74 years), had a prior HIV/HCV diagnosis, were tested for HIV/HCV within the preceding 12 months, and whose "opt-out" decision was not documented. We used multivariable logistic regression to estimate adjusted odds ratios (aOR) and 95 % confidence intervals (CI) for "opt-out" decision, with age, sex, race/ethnicity, insurance status, visit type, and genitourinary vs. non-genitourinary chief complaints as predictors. RESULTS The final analyses included 706 individuals for HIV and 818 for HCV. Most individuals were non-Hispanic Black (77 % and 78 %) and female (66 % and 64 %). The mean ages were 49.1 (±11.9) and 51.9 (±13.2). Nearly one-third of individuals declined HIV and HCV testing (31 % and 30 %). Black males were more likely to decline HIV and HCV testing than Black females (aOR = 1.61 [95 % CI. 1.08 - 2.40] and aOR = 1.50 [95 %CI. 1.04 - 2.16]). CONCLUSION Despite HIV/HCV testing being the standard of care, approximately one-third of eligible individuals may decline testing, the demographic characteristics of whom may overlap with individuals who are traditionally unaware of their status. Abstract
This study aimed to explore the current evidence on preventing blood-borne virus infections among people who inject drugs (PWID). We conducted a comprehensive search across three databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library) for relevant articles published in English between 2014 and 2023. We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines, assessed the quality of the paper using the revised Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool (ROB 2), and conducted a meta-analysis using RevMan 5.3. Completing the harm reduction program (HRP) participation and receiving all three vaccine doses resulted in a 28% reduction in the risk of HBV infection (OR: 0.72, 95% CI: 0.37-1.42). Various interventions increased the willingness of PWIDs to undergo HCV treatment (OR: 5.91, 95% CI: 2.46-14.24) and promoted treatment adherence (OR: 15.04, 95% CI: 2.80-80.61). Taking PrEP, participating in HRP, and modifying risky behaviors were associated with a 33% reduction in the risk of HIV infection (OR: 0.67, 95% CI: 0.61-0.74). Conducting referrals, providing counseling, and implementing antiretroviral therapy resulted in a 44% reduction in the risk of viral transmission (OR: 0.56, 95% CI: 0.47-0.66). Co-infection may potentially compromise effectiveness, so it is important to consider drug resistance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Little is known about global practices regarding the provision of reimbursement for the participation of people who are incarcerated in research. To determine current practices related to the reimbursement of incarcerated populations for research, we aimed to describe international variations in practice across countries and carceral environments to help inform the development of more consistent and equitable practices. METHODS We conducted a scoping review by searching PubMed, Cochrane library, Medline, and Embase, and conducted a grey literature search for English- and French-language articles published until September 30, 2022. All studies evaluating any carceral-based research were included if recruitment of incarcerated participants occurred inside any non-juvenile carceral setting; we excluded studies if recruitment occurred exclusively following release. Where studies failed to indicate the presence or absence of reimbursement, we assumed none was provided. RESULTS A total of 4,328 unique articles were identified, 2,765 were eligible for full text review, and 426 were included. Of these, 295 (69%) did not offer reimbursement to incarcerated individuals. A minority (n = 13; 4%) included reasons explaining the absence of reimbursement, primarily government-level policies (n = 7). Among the 131 (31%) studies that provided reimbursement, the most common form was monetary compensation (n = 122; 93%); five studies (4%) offered possible reduced sentencing. Reimbursement ranged between $3-610 USD in total and 14 studies (11%) explained the reason behind the reimbursements, primarily researchers' discretion (n = 9). CONCLUSIONS The majority of research conducted to date in carceral settings globally has not reimbursed incarcerated participants. Increased transparency regarding reimbursement (or lack thereof) is needed as part of all carceral research and advocacy efforts are required to change policies prohibiting reimbursement of incarcerated individuals. Future work is needed to co-create international standards for the equitable reimbursement of incarcerated populations in research, incorporating the voices of people with lived and living experience of incarceration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this scoping review was to summarize the literature that reported on the experiences of people who use injection drugs' access to hepatitis C testing and diagnosis in Western countries. METHODS The initial search was conducted in 2020 and an updated review was completed in 2022. Seven electronic databases were searched using a peer-reviewed search strategy and included: full-text, peer-reviewed studies with people who inject(ed) drugs, hepatitis C testing or diagnosis, conducted in Western countries. Excluded were studies published prior to 2014 and intervention studies. Two-step screening was conducted in duplicate. Conventional content analysis was used. RESULTS Six studies were found from the search. The studies were published between 2014 and 2021 in Australia, United Kingdom, and United States. A total of 19 participant characteristics were extracted to contextualize their experiences, demonstrating a lack of demographic data. Four themes were found: Awareness and Knowledge, Stigma, Healthcare Service, and Psychological Responses. There were 58 occurrences of client quotes where participants described their experiences, 29 occurrences of quotes describing client-identified barriers, and 14 occurrences of quotes describing client-identified facilitators. CONCLUSION A scoping review was conducted to present the experiences, barriers, and facilitators of people who use injection drugs to hepatitis C testing. The lack of demographic data and connection to client quotes further exacerbates the inequities among the population by overlooking their intragroup identities. Understanding their experiences of accessing hepatitis C testing and collecting demographic data will help advance health policies and interventions targeting people who use injection drugs.

Abstract
Background The estimated prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in Canada is approximately 1.0%. However, the number of individuals living with HCV but unaware of it is estimated to be 30%-44%. Increased screening programs that are accessible, effective, and feasible are important to ensure treatment and meet WHO elimination goals. We implemented an HCV point of care test (POCT) program in community pharmacies to examine the effectiveness and feasibility in screening. Methods Twenty two London Drugs pharmacies in British Columbia and Alberta implemented an HCV POC screening program using OraQuick rapid antibody tests. Consenting patients filled out a 10-question screening questionnaire to examine risk factors. The participants then were tested using the POCT. While waiting for the test (20 minutes), patients were educated on HCV and treatment options. Results Three hundred seventy-one participants underwent HCV screening. The most common HCV risk factor was being born between 1945 and 1975 (baby boomer) (93% of cohort), while the second most common was having a tattoo or body piercing (22%). Seven people (2%) tested positive; four were HCV-RNA PCR-positive and were treated, whereas the PCR status of three was unknown as they were lost to follow-up or not tested. Conclusions Pharmacy-based POCT was shown to be effective and feasible in the western Canadian context, especially for baby boomers. Sustainable funding for pharmacy screening programs may be considered nationwide to identify HCV-infected persons and help meet elimination goals.

Abstract
Viral hepatitis, caused by hepatitis A virus (HAV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), hepatitis D virus (HDV), or hepatitis E virus (HEV), is a major global public health problem. These viruses cause millions of infections each year, and chronic infections with HBV, HCV, or HDV can lead to severe liver complications; however, they are underdiagnosed. Achieving the World Health Organization's viral hepatitis elimination goals by 2030 will require access to simpler, faster, and less expensive diagnostics. The development and implementation of point-of-care (POC) testing methods that can be performed outside of a laboratory for the diagnosis of viral hepatitis infections is a promising approach to facilitate and expedite WHO's elimination targets. While a few markers of viral hepatitis are already available in POC formats, tests for additional markers or using novel technologies need to be developed and validated for clinical use. Potential methods and uses for the POC testing of antibodies, antigens, and nucleic acids that relate to the diagnosis, monitoring, or surveillance of viral hepatitis infections are discussed here. Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Prisons are key venues for scaling-up hepatitis C virus (HCV) testing and treatment. Complex clinical pathways and frequent movements of people in prison remain barriers to HCV care. This study evaluated the impact of a 'one-stop-shop' point-of-care HCV RNA testing intervention on treatment uptake compared with standard of care among people recently incarcerated in Australia. METHODS PIVOT was a prospective, non-concurrent, controlled study comparing HCV treatment uptake during 'standard of care' (n = 239; November 2019-May 2020) and a 'one-stop-shop' intervention (n = 301; June 2020-April 2021) in one reception prison in Australia. The primary endpoint was uptake of direct-acting antiviral treatment at 12 weeks from enrolment. Secondary outcomes included the time taken from enrolment to each stage in the care cascade. RESULTS A total of 540 male participants were enrolled. Median age (29 vs. 28 years) and history of injecting drug use (48% vs. 42%) were similar between standard of care and intervention phases. Among people diagnosed with current HCV infection (n = 18/63 in the standard of care phase vs. n = 30/298 in the intervention phase), the proportion initiating direct-acting antiviral treatment within 12 weeks from enrolment in the intervention phase was higher (93% [95% CI 0.78-0.99] vs. 22% [95% CI 0.64-0.48]; p <0.001), and the median time to treatment initiation was shorter (6 days [IQR 5-7] vs. 99 days [IQR 57-127]; p <0.001) compared to standard of care. CONCLUSIONS The 'one-stop-shop' intervention enhanced treatment uptake and reduced time to treatment initiation among people recently incarcerated in Australia, thereby overcoming key barriers to treatment scale-up in the prison sector. IMPACT AND IMPLICATIONS This study provides important insights for policymakers regarding optimal HCV testing and treatment pathways for people newly incarcerated in prisons. The findings will improve health outcomes in people in prison with chronic HCV infection by increasing testing and treatment, thereby reducing infections, liver-related morbidity/mortality, and comorbidities. The findings will change clinical practice, clinical guidelines, and international guidance, and will inform future research and national and regional strategies, in particular regarding point-of-care testing, which is being rapidly scaled-up in various settings globally. The economic impact will likely include health budget savings resulting from reduced negative health outcomes relating to HCV, and health system efficiencies resulting from the introduction of simplified models of care. Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is highly prevalent within the prison setting. Although HCV testing and treatment are available within prisons, system barriers can impede progress along the HCV care cascade for those who are incarcerated. The PIVOT intervention used a 'one-stop-shop' model (i.e. point-of-care HCV RNA testing, Fibroscan-based liver disease assessment and treatment) at a reception prison in New South Wales, Australia. This analysis sought to understand the role of point-of-care HCV RNA testing at intake in reducing barriers to the HCV care cascade within the male prison setting. DESIGN AND SETTING Qualitative analysis using semi-structured interviews in a reception prison in Australia. PARTICIPANTS Twenty-four men enrolled in the PIVOT study; all participants had undergone HCV point-of-care testing in the intervention arm. MEASUREMENTS Høj's Integrated Framework informed this analysis. FINDINGS Participants widely expressed the view that point-of-care HCV RNA testing on entry was beneficial for care engagement. Point-of-care testing was perceived as timely (compared with standard pathology) and reduced opportunities for adjudication by correctional officers due to fewer clinic visits for testing and results. Adoption of routine opt-out testing at prison intake was regarded as an important strategy for normalising HCV testing (and likely to increase pathways to treatment uptake) and fostered patient candidacy (i.e. self-perceived eligibility to access care). CONCLUSION Twenty-four men in prison in New South Wales, Australia, who underwent opt-out point-of-care HCV RNA testing on entry into prison, widely supported the programme as a means of overcoming barriers to HCV testing and treatment in the prison setting, as well as providing public health benefits through early detection of HCV infection among people entering into custody.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Hepatitis C virus (HCV) poses a global public health threat. Prisons are a focus of prevention efforts due to high infection burdens. Expedition of treatment for incarcerated people is critical, as many are short-term sentenced. We evaluated point-of-care (PoC) HCV RNA testing in a maximum-security Scottish prison and assessed its impact on transition to treatment. We also evaluated costs and determinants of implementation. DESIGN Mixed-methods evaluation of a single-centre care pathway pilot using National Health Service (NHS) data from 2018 to 2021. Descriptive statistics and survival analysis were undertaken. Cost analysis was assessed from a provider perspective. Healthcare staff participated in semistructured interviews and thematic analysis with a deductive approach was undertaken to identify implementation determinants. SETTING A large maximum-security Scottish prison health centre administered by the NHS. PARTICIPANTS 296 incarcerated NHS patients (all men) and six NHS staff members (two men and four women). INTERVENTIONS HCV testing using the Cepheid GeneXpert platform with Xpert HCV VL Fingerstick assay. OUTCOME MEASURES The main outcome was survival (in days) from HCV test to treatment initiation. Secondary outcomes were cost-per-cure obtained and implementation determinants. RESULTS During the pilot, 167 Xpert tests were administered, with an 84% completion rate, and treatment transition was superior for those who received it (p=0.014). Where PoC tests were administered, shorter survival to treatment was observed (19 vs 33 days: adjusted HR (aHR) 1.91 (1.03-3.55), p=0.040; 19 vs 50 days; aHR 3.76 (1.67-8.46), p=0.001). PoC was costlier than conventional testing. In qualitative analysis, most facilitators were observed among characteristics of individual domain while most barriers were noted in the inner setting. CONCLUSIONS Integrating PoC HCV RNA diagnosis into nurse-led HCV care in a maximum-security prison health centre shortens survival to HCV treatment. However, there are cost implications to this approach and multiple determinants that impact on implementation should be addressed.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Chronic infection due to hepatitis C virus (HCV) is frequently asymptomatic even in advanced stages of liver disease. Implementation of a screening program based on different HCV tests may enable an earlier diagnosis of HCV liver disease and subsequent application of highly effective treatment. PATIENTS AND METHODS A Markov model which compares three different screening strategies for hepatitis C versus no screening in low-risk prevalence (general population) and high-risk prevalence population (people who inject drugs or prison population) was designed, taking into account age at the start of screening and participation. The three strategies were: 1) serological detection of antibodies against the HCV, 2) dried blood spot test (DBS) to detect antibodies against HCV and 3) detection of RNA from HCV. Quality-adjusted life-years (QALY) were taken as a measurement of effectiveness. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) was calculated and a deterministic and probabilistic sensitivity analysis was performed. RESULTS All three screening strategies were found to be cost-effective with an ICER of €13,633, €12,015 and €12,328/QALY for AntiHCV, DBS-AntiHCV and DBS-RNA HCV, respectively. There was a decrease in mortality due to liver disease in comparison to no screening for AntiHCV (40.7% and 52%), DBS-AntiHCV (45% and 80%) and DBS-RNA HCV (45.2% and 80%) for low-prevalence and high-prevalence populations, respectively. CONCLUSION All test interventions for HCV screening are cost-effective for the early detection of HCV infection, also achieving a reduction in mortality. Thus, implementation of screening programs for HCV should not be halted by decisions on monetary policy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diffuse implementation of hepatitis C virus (HCV) treatment is dependent on universal screening for HCV, but screening strategies are heterogenous across prisons in the province of Quebec (Canada). We sought to identify barriers and enablers to universal opt-out HCV screening and to describe the multisectoral decision-making processes related to HCV screening in Quebec provincial prisons. METHODS A multilevel, multi-theory informed qualitative descriptive approach was used to conduct semi-structured interviews. Interview guides and analyses with correctional stakeholders were informed by the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) and those with healthcare professionals (HCPs) were based on the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF). Directed content analysis was used to identify domains within CFIR and TDF reflecting barriers and enablers to opt-out HCV screening. RESULTS Sixteen interviews (correctional stakeholders: n = 8; HCPs: n = 8) were conducted in April-May 2021. Twelve CFIR constructs were identified as barriers, seven as enablers, and two as neutral factors for the implementation of opt-out HCV screening. Correctional stakeholders underscored the need for political will (construct: external policy and incentives), highlighted limited resources (construct: available resources), and expressed concerns for the lack of consideration of implementation issues (constructs: trialability, planning). Six TDF domains were identified among HCPs as relevant to the implementation of opt-out HCV screening: beliefs about consequences (mixed = enablers and barriers), environmental context and resources (barrier), social influences (barrier), optimism (mixed), emotions (mixed), and behavioural regulation (barrier). The decision-making processes vis-à-vis HCV care in Quebec correctional settings were found to be hierarchical and complex. CONCLUSIONS The use of CFIR and TDF was helpful in identifying barriers and enablers to HCV screening at multiple levels for people incarcerated in Quebec provincial prisons. Going forward, several political, structural, and organizational factors should be addressed through the engagement of stakeholders and people with lived experience of incarceration.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Current diagnostic pathways require multiple healthcare provider visits and lead to a drop-off in the hepatitis C virus (HCV) testing and treatment care cascade. In prison settings, frequent transitioning between prisons and the community further reduces uptake of testing and treatment. The PIVOT study evaluated a 'one-stop-shop' intervention integrating point-of-care HCV RNA testing, Fibroscan®-based liver disease assessment, and treatment prescription at a reception prison in Australia. This qualitative sub-study was undertaken to assess patient acceptability of point-of-care HCV RNA testing in the reception prison setting. METHODS Twenty-four men in prison enrolled in the PIVOT study participated in semi-structured interviews; all of whom had undergone point-of-care HCV RNA testing in the PIVOT study. Patients were purposefully selected to ensure comparable representation of people with and without a history of injecting drug use and people with and without prior HCV testing experience (standard venepuncture). Sekhon's Theoretical Framework of Acceptability, consisting of seven components (affective attitude, burden, ethicality, intervention coherence, opportunity cost, perceived effectiveness, and self-efficacy), informed this qualitative analysis. RESULTS Acceptability of fingerstick point-of-care HCV RNA testing was evident across four components: affective attitude, burden, self-efficacy, and perceived effectiveness. Patients described point-of-care testing as "quick and easy" (affective attitude), while swift results were viewed as alleviating anxiety associated with long wait times for standard pathology (burden). Patients averse to venepuncture (e.g., fear of needles or poor vein health) found the fingerstick method accessible, thereby enabling participation in HCV screening (self-efficacy). Participants attributed confidence in test results predominantly due to trust in the healthcare system or trust in the personnel administering the test (perceived effectiveness). CONCLUSION People entering custody perceive fingerstick HCV RNA point-of-care testing to be an acceptable method and preferred this method to standard HCV testing via venepuncture. In light of these findings, prison health authorities should consider the role of opt-out point-of-care HCV RNA testing upon prison entry.

Abstract
Background Delivery of hepatitis C virus (HCV) care to people in prison is essential to HCV elimination. We aimed to describe current HCV care practices across Canada's adult provincial prisons. Methods One representative per provincial prison health care team (except Ontario) was invited to participate in a web-based survey from January to June 2020. The outcomes of interest were HCV screening and treatment, treatment restrictions, and harm reduction services. The government ministry responsible for health care was determined. Non-nominal data were aggregated by province and ministry; descriptive statistical analyses were used to report outcomes. Results The survey was completed by 59/65 (91%) prisons. On-demand, risk-based, opt-in, and opt-out screening are offered by 19 (32%), 10 (17%), 18 (31%), and 9 (15%) prisons, respectively; 3 prisons offer no HCV screening. Liver fibrosis assessments are rare (8 prisons access transient elastography, and 15 use aspartate aminotransferase to platelet ratio or Fibrosis-4); 20 (34%) prisons lack linkage to care programs. Only 32 (54%) prisons have ever initiated HCV treatment on site. Incarceration length and a fibrosis staging of ≥F2 are the most common eligibility restrictions for treatment. Opioid agonist therapy is available in 83% of prisons; needle and syringe programs are not available anywhere. Systematic screening and greater access to treatment and harm reduction services are more common where the Ministry of Health is responsible. Conclusions Tremendous variability exists in HCV screening and care practices across Canada's provincial prisons. To advance HCV care, adopting opt-out screening and removing eligibility restrictions may be important initial strategies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Implementing opt-out hepatitis C virus (HCV) screening across Canadian provincial prisons is crucial to achieving micro-elimination. Given short incarceration lengths, the most cost-effective screening strategy remains unknown. We compared the cost-effectiveness of current standard of care (venipuncture-based HCV-antibody+HCV RNA) and 13 alternative strategies in Quebec's largest provincial prison. METHODS A prison cohort was simulated with a Markov micro-simulation model. Strategies differed in the biomarkers, sampling methods, and number of tests used. The model considered incarceration lengths, time to linkage to care (LTC), nursing costs, and tests' costs, performances, acceptability and turnaround times. Outcomes included costs (Canadian dollars, CAD$), number of true positives linked to care, and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs, additional $/additional TP-L). A one-year time horizon and health-payer perspective were adopted. RESULTS Across all analyses, three strategies consistently provided the best value for money: venipuncture-based HCV-antibody+HCV-core antigen, venipuncture-based HCV-core antigen (base-case ICER=~ $720), and point-of-care HCV-antibody+HCV RNA (base-case ICER=$4,310). However, these strategies linked only 23%-29% viremic individuals to care. Main drivers of cost-effectiveness were the seroprevalence, proportion viremic, and time to LTC. CONCLUSION Alternative strategies would be more cost-effective than standard of care for implementing opt-out screening in provincial prisons. However, interventions to maximize LTC should be explored.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Iran is among countries with high opioid agonist therapy (OAT) coverage in prisons, which provides an infrastructure to increase feasibility of HCV programs. We aimed to evaluate the impact of an intervention to improve HCV screening, diagnosis, and treatment, including alongside the provision of OAT, in an Iranian prison. METHODS During July-December 2018, in the Gorgan prison, all incarcerated adults (>18 years) received HCV antibody rapid testing and, if positive, provided a venepuncture sample for HCV RNA testing. Participants with positive RNA received direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy [(Sofosbuvir/Daclatasvir) for 24 or 12 weeks, respectively, for those with and without cirrhosis]. Response to treatment was measured by the sustained virological response at 12 weeks post-treatment (SVR12). RESULTS Among 2015 incarcerated people with a median age of 35 years (IQR:29-41), the majority were male (97%), had not finished high school (68%), and had a history of drug use (71%), of whom 15% had ever injected drugs. A third of participants were receiving OAT, including 54% of those who had ever injected. HCV antibody prevalence was 6.7%, and RNA was detected in 4.6% of all participants; this prevalence was 32.6% and 24.7% among those with a history of injection, respectively. Treatment uptake was 82% (75/92) and was similar among people on OAT and those with a history of injection (81%). The majority completed treatment in prison and were available for SVR12 assessment (71%, 53/75). Achieved SVR12 was 100% (53/53) based on the available case analysis; those who did not have available SVR12 were released either prior to treatment initiation or completion (n = 39). CONCLUSION The availability of OAT infrastructure should be considered as an opportunity for enhancing HCV care in prisons. Where resources are limited, the prison harm reduction network could be used to design targeted HCV programs among people who are at higher risk of infection.

Abstract
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a global public health problem in correctional settings. The International Network on Health and Hepatitis in Substance Users-Prisons Network is a special interest group committed to advancing scientific knowledge exchange and advocacy for HCV prevention and care in correctional settings. In this Review, we highlight seven priority areas and best practices for improving HCV care in correctional settings: changing political will, ensuring access to HCV diagnosis and testing, promoting optimal models of HCV care and treatment, improving surveillance and monitoring of the HCV care cascade, reducing stigma and tackling the social determinants of health inequalities, implementing HCV prevention and harm reduction programmes, and advancing prison-based research.
