Abstract
Keratin materials are promising in wound healing acceleration, however, it is a challenge for the keratin to efficiently therapy the impaired wound healing, such as diabetic foot ulcers. Here, we report a keratin/bFGF hydrogel for skin repair of chronic wounds in diabetic rats based on their characteristics of extracellular matrix and growth factor degradation in diabetic ulcer. Recombinant keratin 31 (K31), the most abundant keratin in human hair, exhibited the highly efficient performances in cell adhesion, proliferation and migration. More importantly, the introduction of bFGF into K31 hydrogel significantly enhances the properties of cell proliferation, wound closure acceleration, angiogenesis and skin appendages regeneration. Furthermore, the combination of K31 and bFGF can promote epithelial-mesenchymal transition by inhibiting the expression of E-cadherin and promoting the expression of vimentin and fibronectin. These findings demonstrate the engineered K31/bFGF hydrogel as a promising therapeutic agent for diabetic wound healing.

Abstract
Imidazole propionate (ImP) is a recently discovered metabolite of T2DM-related gut microbiota. The effect of ImP on T2DM wound healing has not been studied yet. In this research, the changes of ImP-producing bacteria on the skin are firstly evaluated. 16sRNA sequencing results showed that the abundance of ImP-producing bacteria-Streptococcus in the intestine and skin of T2DM mice is significantly increased. Animal experiments show that ImP can inhibit the process of wound healing and inhibit the formation of blood vessels in the process of wound healing. Molecular mechanism research results show that ImP can inhibit S1P secretion mediated by SPNS2, and inhibit the activation of Rho signaling pathway, thereby affecting the angiogenesis process of HUVEC cells. This work also provides a potential drug HMPA that promotes T2DM wound healing.

Abstract
Diabetic ulcers (DUs) are a common complication of diabetes with high morbidity, poor prognosis, and a high socio-economic burden. The main pathological manifestations of DUs are chronic inflammation, impaired re-epithelialization, and impaired angiogenesis. During the inflammatory phase, neutrophils are one of the main DU cell types and act by releasing neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), leading to poor healing in DUs. This review summarizes the role of neutrophils in the pathology and treatment of DUs, with a view to potential novel therapies and therapeutic targets.

Abstract
Peripheral nerve injury has detrimental effects on the quality of life for patients and is a worldwide issue with high rates of morbidity. Research on the molecular mechanisms of nerve injury, microsurgical techniques, and advances in stem cell research have led to substantial progress in the field of translational neurophysiology. Current research on peripheral nerve regeneration aims to accelerate peripheral nerve development through pluripotent stem cells and potential use of smart exosomes, pharmacological agents, and bioengineering of nerve conduits. In this article critically reviewed and summarized various methods used for peripheral nerve regeneration and highlight the opportunities and challenges that come along with these strategies.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to review Japanese laws regarding regenerative medicine and the current status of clinical application of regenerative medicine, to learn about the advantages and problems, and to thereby serve as a reference for measures necessary for the development of regenerative medicine. BACKGROUND Regenerative medicine started in 1957 with the transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells, followed by the establishment of embryonic stem cells in 1981 and induced pluripotent stem cells in 2006, and continues to evolve progressively. At the same time, however, problems have emerged due to lax legal regulations, such as the use of treatments that lack scientific evidence. REVIEW RESULTS The Japanese government enacted two laws to regulate regenerative medicine: the Law to Ensure the Safety of Regenerative Medicine and the Amend the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law in 2013. These laws were enacted with the aim of providing safe regenerative medicine promptly and smoothly and developing many regenerative medicine products. In these laws, regenerative medicine is defined as medical treatment that restores lost functions of damaged organs and tissues with the help of cellular and tissue-based products. Nowadays, there are two major methods of regenerative medicine. One representative method involves the transplantation of devices that activates self-regenerative ability by introducing living cells into patients' body. The other method is the activation and differentiation of endogenous stem cells with cell growth and differentiation factors. CONCLUSION The current status of regenerative medicine in the Tohoku region after the enactment of these laws is described in detail. This clarified the advantages and disadvantages associated with regenerative medicine as it is currently practiced in Japan. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Development of regenerative medicine in dentistry will be advanced by learning about its clinical application in medicine.
