Abstract
Chinese herbs contain substances that regulate female hormones. Our study confirmed that Zingiberis rhizoma carbonisata contains Zingiberis rhizoma-based carbon dots (ZR-CDs), which exert regulatory effects on serum oestradiol and FSH in mice and show impacts on endometrial growth and follicular development that potentially affect the ability of female fertility. ZR-CDs were characterized to clarify the microstructure, optical features, and functional group characteristics. It shows that ZR-CDs are spherical carbon nanostructures ranging from 0.97 to 2.3 nm in diameter, with fluorescent properties and a surface rich in functional groups. We further investigated the impact of ZR-CDs on oestradiol and FSH in serum, growth, and the development of ovarian and uterine using normal female mice and exogenous oestradiol intervention model. It was observed that ZR-CDs accelerated oestrogen metabolism and attenuated oestradiol-induced endometrial hyperplasia. Simultaneously, ZR-CDs triggered an increase in FSH, even in the presence of high-serum oestradiol that inhibits FSH secretion. Our findings suggest that ZR-CDs could be a potential therapeutic treatment for anovulatory menstruation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Platinum is a commonly used drug for ovarian cancer (OvCa) treatment, but drug resistance limits its clinical application. This study intended to delineate the effects of adipocytes on platinum resistance in OvCa. METHODS OvCa cells were maintained in the adipocyte-conditioned medium. Cell viability and apoptosis were detected by CCK-8 and flow cytometry, separately. Proliferation and apoptosis-related protein expression were assayed by western blot. The IC50 values of cisplatin and carboplatin were determined using CCK-8. IGF1 secretion and expression were assayed via ELISA and western blot, respectively. A xenograft model was established, and pathological changes were detected by H&E staining. Proliferation and apoptosis-associated protein expression was assessed via IHC. RESULTS Adipocytes promoted the viability and repressed cell apoptosis in OvCa, as well as enhancing platinum resistance, while the addition of IGF-1 R inhibitor reversed the effects of adipocytes on proliferation, apoptosis, and drug resistance of OvCa cells. Treatment with different concentrations of Ojeok-san (OJS) inhibited the adipocyte-induced platinum resistance in OvCa cells by suppressing IGF1. The combined treatment of OJS and cisplatin significantly inhibited tumour growth in vivo with good mouse tolerance. CONCLUSION In summary, OJS inhibited OvCa proliferation and platinum resistance by suppressing adipocyte paracrine IGF1 secretion.

Abstract
An 80-year-old woman with a history of rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia, and no family history of hyperkinesis developed suddenly involuntary movement and visited our hospital two-day after onset. Neuro-examination revealed hemichorea-hemiballismus in the right side of the body, including the face (Suppl. video). Blood tests revealed neither hyperglycemia nor acanthocyte. Brain MRI showed acute microbleeding in the left subthalamic nucleus (Figure 1A-C). Although she was treated with haloperidol (max. 4.5 mg/day), hemichorea-hemiballismus did not subside. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) with a low-frequency protocol (LFP) (1 Hz, 1200 pulses, with a stimulus intensity of 90% of the resting motor threshold, 3 days/week for 2-week) was applied to the left precentral knob (Figure 1D). Its effect was drastic, as the symptoms disappeared for half-hour after rTMS. Hemichorea-hemiballism then reappeared but was attenuated by repeated rTMS. The symptoms disappeared after one-month. Subthalamic nucleus lesions can develop hemichorea-hemiballism (1). According to a study on Huntington's disease and diabetic hemichorea-hemiballism, increased thalamocortical drive may increase the excitability of excitatory and inhibitory circuits of the frontal cortex as the etiologies of hyperkinesia (2-3). However, the target points of rTMS in treating hemichorea-hemiballism have not been consistent in literature. Moreover, rTMS with a LFP on the bilateral supplementary motor areas is effective in treating chorea in Huntington's disease (2). Additionally, rTMS on the ipsilateral precentral knob (primary motor cortex) with continuous θ burst stimulation (cTBS), which decreases the excitability and inhibitory cortical circuits, was effective in treating contralateral hemichorea caused by midbrain hemorrhage (3). Similar to cTBS, LFP can suppress cortical excitation (4); therefore, we applied rTMS with LFP on the primary motor cortex to treat hemichorea-hemiballism. Our results were drastic for both short- and long-term efficiency. This is the first report of the efficacy of rTMS with LFP in treating hemichorea-hemiballism caused by encephalorrhagia.

Abstract
PURPOSE Secondary (TN) caused by an arachnoid cyst in the (CPA) region is a rare finding. Based on the reported literature, there are only 5 cases of secondary trigeminal neuralgia caused by an arachnoid cyst in the cerebellopontine angle region. CASE REPORT A 27-year-old female presented to our neurosurgery clinic with a 2-year history of brief episodes of paroxysm pain in the left cheek. The pain was described as an electric shock-like pain triggered by simple stimuli. The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a well-confined cystic lesion in the left CPA, which compresses the left pons and the cisternal segment of the left trigeminal nerve. The patient was managed operatively to fenestrate the cyst and decompress the trigeminal nerve. The histopathological result of the cyst wall was consistent with an arachnoid cyst. Six months after surgery, the patient is in good health condition and symptom-free without medication. CONCLUSION Arachnoid cyst in the CPA region is one of the rare causes of secondary TN. Preoperative imaging with MRI is important to provide better results to differentiate the pathology. Surgical treatment to fenestrate the arachnoid cyst and decompress the trigeminal nerve have a good result and can improve the patient's quality of life.

Abstract
Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT), also known as thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome, is a rare complication of ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 (AZD1222) vaccine administration. The overall incidence of VITT worldwide is one case per 100 000 exposures. Because of the high mortality rate from VITT, thorough monitoring is crucial to predict the risk of occurrence. The underlying risk factors for VITT are not fully understood. Potential risk factors include sex (female) and young age (less than 50 years), but further research must be conducted to confirm these assumptions. We report the case of a woman with obesity, which is a risk factor for deep vein thrombosis in the legs and for pulmonary embolism, who experienced fulminant VITT after AZD1222 vaccine administration. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Crocin on brain neuroterophins, cognition, sensory and motor dysfunction and compare to fingolimod effects in toxic-induced demyelination with Ethidium Bromide EB in female Wistar rats. METHODS Animals were assigned in to 8 groups; Sham, Sham operated (ShOp), EAE, crocin treated, Vehicle, Fingolompd (Fing) and fingolimod + crocin (Cr+Fing). Demyelination was induced by single dose injection of 10 μl of EB 0.1 percent into the fourth ventricle of the brain. Crocin and fingolimod were administered for 21 days, daily, oral gavage. BDNF, NGF1, tail flake latency, balance and behavioral variables were sampled and analyzed by paired t-test and ANOVA test with repeated post hoc measurements. RESULTS The results showed that crocin improves all studied factors, but remarkable improvements were observed in dosage of 10 mg/kg. Crocin (10mg/kg) and fingolimod (1mg/kg) significantly improved cognition variables in open field test, sensory and motor nerve conduction velocity, tail flick latency and clinical scores (p less than 005). In addition, applying of crocin co-administered with fingolimod led to significant increases in all assessed factors, greater than crocin or fingolimod intervention alone. CONCLUSION Based on the current findings, crocin can improve the level of brain neurotrophins, exploratory behavior, balance and pain after toxin-demyelination as close as fingolimod results.

Abstract
Mask use during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been widely recommended and mandated worldwide. However, there is a lack of comprehensive research on the potential adverse health effects of mask usage. This study aimed to investigate and evaluate the negative effects of surgical mask use on scientifically proven cardiopulmonary functions in undergraduate and associate degree students, as well as its impact on coronaphobia. A total of 145 volunteer university students (49 males, 96 females, with a mean age of 20 years) were enrolled in the study, which consisted of two 120-minute sessions. Blood oxygen saturation, heart rate, and blood pressure were assessed before and immediately after each session. The Coronavirus-19 Phobia Scale was utilized to measure levels of COVID-19 phobia. While a time-dependent decrease in oxygen saturation level, blood pressure, and heart rate was measured when vital signs were evaluated at 1 and 120 minutes, none of the values fell outside the reference range. The study also investigated the effects of mask use on various symptoms including headaches, visual impairment, facial discomfort, earaches, shortness of breath, and anxiety. Significantly increased occurrences of all these symptoms were observed at the 60th and 120th minute compared with the baseline. The participants enrolled in the study demonstrated a moderate level of COVID-19 phobia based on the mean total score. Furthermore, high scores were recorded in the psychological and social sub-dimensions, while lower scores were recorded in the economic and psychosomatic sub-dimensions. In the post-COVID-19 normalization phase, the use of a surgical mask during a 120-minute course was found to have no significant impact on cardiopulmonary functions, but moderately affected coronaphobia scores.

Abstract
Horse's milk, with a high nutritional value and few allergenic proteins, could substitute cow's milk for infant consumption. Herein, a label-free, proteomic method was used to identify and compare milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) and whey proteins from three different horse breeds: Selle Français (SF), Welsh pony (WP), and Tieling Draft Horse (TDH). In MFGMs, 16 (SF), 66 (WP), and 45 (TDH) unique proteins were identified, which are involved in the endocytosis, ribosome, and staphylococcus aureus infection pathways, respectively. In whey, 31 (SF), 75 (WP), and 23 (TDH) unique proteins were identified, which are involved in the autophagy-animal, phenylalanine metabolism, and Vasopressin-regulated water reabsorption pathways, respectively. SF contained the lowest concentration of β-lactoglobulin, which can cause allergic reactions in humans. Our findings describe the nutritional differences and functional diversities of MFGM and whey proteins in different horse breeds, which could support developing formula more suitable for human infants.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aims to investigate the effect of edaravone in preventing cisplatin-induced brain damage. METHODS Forty female Wistar albino rats were included in the study. 4 groups were created. In group 1 (control group) (n=10), neither any drugs were given nor anything was performed. Group 2 (cisplatin group) (n=10), single dose 7.5 mg/kg cisplatin was given. In group 3 (edaravone group) (n=10), single dose 1 mg/kg edaravone was administered. Group 4 (cisplatin+ edaravone group) (n=10), single dose 7.5 mg/kg cisplatin and 1 mg/kg edaravone were given. Brain tissue was removed in all rats after 3 days. Blood samples taken from heart tissue were examined for malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) levels. Brain tissue was evaluated for damage with p53, GFAP and Ki 67. RESULTS Edaravone reduced cisplatin-induced brain damage. MDA and NO levels in the cisplatin group were significantly higher than the other groups (p less than 0.05). Likewise, tissue damage in the cisplatin group was significantly higher than in the other groups (p less than 0.05). The immunohistochemical staining which was done by using p53, GFAP and Ki 67 was shown that tissue damage was higher in cisplatin group than cisplatin+ edaravone group and this difference was found to be statistically significant (p less than 0.05). CONCLUSION The findings of our study suggest that edaravone therapy may be effective in the prevention and treatment of cisplatin-induced brain injury.

Abstract
A 13-year and 4-month-old girl was brought to the emergency department due to fever, dizziness,vomiting, and blurred vision. Laboratory data revealed hyperglycemia with an HbA1C of 7.3 percent, ketonuria, and lactic acidosis. The initial impression was diabetic ketoacidosis. During admission, recurrent focal impaired awareness seizures were noted, and magnetic resonance imaging of the brain revealed multiple brain infarctions in the bilateral cerebrum. Mitochondrial gene report showed A3243 G with 64 percent heteroplasmy, and mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes was diagnosed. At 16 years and 7 months old, recurrence of vomiting and onset of right hemianopia and mild right limb weakness were observed and follow-up T2 images showed massive edema in her left parieto-occipital region. At 16 years and 10 months old, she developed clonus in her left hand associated with an unsteady gait and blurred vision. MRI of the brain revealed recurrent brain infarction, and T2 images showed massive edema of the right parieto-occipital region. MELAS is a rare disease entity and occasionally comorbid with mitochondrial diabetes in childhood. Characteristic radiological features of MELAS include infarction-like lesions over the parieto-occipital or parieto-temporal areas, which help distinguish MELAS from childhood ischemic stroke.

Abstract
Bilateral medial medullary infarction is a rare subtype of stroke.The typical heart-shaped appearance on magnetic resonance imaging is pathognomonic for bilateral medial medullary syndrome. Vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia is a condition characterized by tortuous dilatation and marked enlargement of the basilar and vertebral arteries, and it may cause posterior circulation infarction. We present the case of a 55-year-old female patient with complaints of speech disorder, regression in consciousness, and difficulty breathing. Diffusion-weighted imaging examination was normal on arrival. In the cranial imaging after 24 hours, acute infarction was observed in the bilateral medial medullary area. Time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography revealed vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia. In this report, a case of bilateral medial medullary infarction with a unique radiological appearance accompanied by vertebrobasilar dolichoectasia, which is rarely reported in the literature, is presented. Abstract
The typical presentation of multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN) is progressive asymmetric limb weakness. Cranial neuropathy is rare. We report a 28-year-old woman with cranial and bulbar palsies but with typical electrophysiological features of MMN by multifocal motor conduction blocks and serological markers of anti-ganglioside GM1 antibodies. The previous consensus on the treatment of MMN is intravenous immunoglobulins, but our patient responded to oral steroids and had clinical and electrophysiological improvement under continuous low-dose prednisolone treatment. In summary, MMN is a treatable chronic inflammatory disease of peripheral nerves. Cranial neuropathies can be its initial presentations. Electromyography studies are crucial for MMN diagnosis and helpful in monitoring disease activity and treatment responses. Although the previous guideline did not suggest using steroids for MMN, with careful patient selection, low-dose oral steroids can be an effective treatment in patients with relatively minor symptoms. Abstract
Milk is one of the oldest natural dairies with high value, which has different species including cow, camel, donkey, goat, sheep, buffalo, yak and et al. However, economically motivated adulteration of non-cow milk with cheaper cow milk occurs frequently. To develop a high-throughput approach for milk species authentication, integration of shotgun proteomics and scheduled multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) was developed. In total, 37 specific peptides were screened as unique to different species. Specific peptides processing stability was investigated under different treatment (heat, pressure, fermentation). Subsequently, four quantitative ion pairs of peptides from cow milk and six quantitative ion pairs of peptides from six non-cow milks were selected for the adulteration quantitative analysis. The method is capable of detection adulteration in the range of 1%-100%, and the quantitative recoveries ranged from 91.07% to 111.75%. The results suggested that combination of shotgun proteomics and MRM had potential for the milk species authentication.

Abstract
Molecular weight is one of the main characteristic parameters of proteins, which is the basis for the functional properties of milk protein. This research aims at establishing molecular weight distribution pattern of milk protein based on exclusion chromatography. The method selected Na3PO4-Na2SO4 (0.1 M, pH 6.7) buffer as the mobile phase and detected at 220 nm by HPLC-UV. The protein molecular weight distributions were determined and compared for human milk, bovine milk, and infant formula. The proportion of macromolecular proteins is much higher in infant formula compared to human or bovine milk. The protein molecular weights of human and bovine milk are significantly different around 90, 20, 14, and 2 kDa. The results provide holistic compare of bovine milk, human milk, and infant formula through protein molecular distribution. The new evaluation indicators for protein will drive technological simulation of infant formula.

Abstract
Mineral elements (Ca, Na, K, Mg, Zn, Ti, Sr, Fe, Ni, Ba, Cr, Mn, Cu, Se, Cd, Mo, B, V, As, Pb and Hg) in Provola cheeses obtained from dairy cows fed with two different integrated diets (Biotrak) and without olive cake (Control) were determined to discriminate between the two different cheeses. The results showed that cheeses from the Biotrak group presented higher values of essential elements. Selenium (Se) was found to be the most interesting: in Biotrak cheeses the content of Se was in the range of 0.112 to 0.281 mg/kg, about twice the content of Se in cheeses from the Control group. Among the toxic elements, only Cd was found in the samples, but at low levels (in average lower than 0.11 mg/kg). Therefore, the use of olive cake in animal feed is a good strategy to improve the mineral profile of the product obtained.

Abstract
Harmful substances that cause food allergies can pose a significant threat to consumers along with food safety. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 10 % of the global population is currently affected by food allergies. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the development of more accurate and precise biosensors capable of detecting these hazardous substances including beta-lactoglobulin. Although numerous detection and analysis methods have been developed, they still suffer from various limitations. In this study, a tannic acid-polyethyleneimine (TA-PEI) network modified screen-printed electrodes (SPE) are newly developed and the binding sequence of peptide against β-LG was successfully screened using random peptide library. A novel affinity peptide with the desired sequence of S-L-S-P-S-L-W-Q-V-S-M-L-G-G-G-G-E-P-L-Q-L-K-M against β-lactoglobulin (β-LG) is designed and synthesized. The synthesized affinity peptide was immobilized on TA-PEI modified SPE to develop peptide-based sensor against β-LG for the first time. Under successful optimization, the developed sensor exhibited a linear relationship between 50 and 750 ng, with a Kd of 213.9 ng. In addition, the sensor was able to detect β-LG in cow and goat milk, with average recoveries of 88.5 % and 92.2 %, respectively.

Abstract
Vitamin D acts in calcium and phosphate homeostasis and also as an immunomodulatory hormone. To estimate the vitamin D intake by the 'adults' and 'elderly' Portuguese populations TDS methodology was used, since in the absence of skin UVB exposure, food and supplements are the only vitamin D sources. Vitamin D was quantifiable in 78 (24 from the fish group) of the 164 TDS samples. Sea bream contained the most vitamin D (13.8 µg/100 g), followed by plaice (9.2 µg/100 g). MCRA software (semi-probabilistic approach) was used to estimate the median vitamin D intake that ranged between 2.47 ('adults' 'males') - 1.45 ('elderly' 'females') µg/day, well below the Dietary Reference Values (5-15 µg/day). Plaice, sea bream and sardine were the main contributors to intake. A prevalence of 94% inadequate vitamin D intake for 'adults' and 'elderly' was found based on the estimated average requirement of 10 µg/day.

Abstract
Migrating epithelial cells globally align their migration machinery to achieve tissue-level movement. Biochemical signaling across leading-trailing cell-cell interfaces can promote this alignment by partitioning migratory behaviors like protrusion and retraction to opposite sides of the interface. However, how signaling proteins become organized at interfaces to accomplish this is poorly understood. The follicular epithelial cells of Drosophila melanogaster have two signaling modules at their leading-trailing interfaces - one composed of the atypical cadherin Fat2 (also known as Kugelei) and the receptor tyrosine phosphatase Lar, and one composed of Semaphorin5c and its receptor Plexin A. Here, we show that these modules form one interface signaling system with Fat2 at its core. Trailing edge-enriched Fat2 concentrates both Lar and Semaphorin5c at leading edges of cells, but Lar and Semaphorin5c play little role in the localization of Fat2. Fat2 is also more stable at interfaces than Lar or Semaphorin5c. Once localized, Lar and Semaphorin5c act in parallel to promote collective migration. We propose that Fat2 serves as the organizer of this interface signaling system by coupling and polarizing the distributions of multiple effectors that work together to align the migration machinery of neighboring cells.

Abstract
Amoxicillin, a widely used antibiotic in human and veterinary pharmaceuticals, is now considered as an "emerging contaminant" because it exists widespreadly in the environment and brings a series of adverse outcomes. Currently, systematic studies about the developmental toxicity of amoxicillin are still lacking. We explored the potential effects of amoxicillin exposure on pregnancy outcomes, maternal/fetal serum phenotypes, and fetal multiple organ development in mice, at different doses (75, 150, 300 mg/(kg·day)) during late-pregnancy, or at a dose of 300 mg/(kg·day) during different stages (mid-/late-pregnancy) and courses (single-/multi-course). Results showed that prenatal amoxicillin exposure (PAmE) had no significant influence on the body weights of dams, but it could inhibit the physical development and reduce the survival rate of fetuses, especially during the mid-pregnancy. Meanwhile, PAmE altered multiple maternal/fetal serum phenotypes, especially in fetuses. Fetal multi-organ function results showed that PAmE inhibited testicular/adrenal steroid synthesis, long bone/cartilage and hippocampal development, and enhanced ovarian steroid synthesis and hepatic glycogenesis/lipogenesis, and the order of severity might be gonad (testis, ovary) > liver > others. Further analysis found that PAmE-induced multi-organ developmental and functional alterations had differences in stages, courses and fetal gender, and the most obvious changes might be in high-dose, late-pregnancy and multi-course, but there was no typical rule of a dose-response relationship. In conclusion, this study confirmed that PAmE could cause abnormal development and multi-organ function alterations, which deepens our understanding of the risk of PAmE and provides an experimental basis for further exploration of the long-term harm.

Abstract
In recent years, neonicotinoids (NEOs) and organophosphate esters (OPEs) have been widely used as substitutes for traditional pesticides and brominated flame-retardants, respectively. Previous studies have shown that those compounds can be frequently detected in environmental and human samples, are able to penetrate the placental barrier, and are toxic to animals. Thus, it is reasonable to speculate that NEOs and OPEs may have potential adverse effects in humans, especially during development. We employed a human embryonic stem cell differentiation- and liver S9 fraction metabolism-based fast screening model to assess the potential embryonic toxicity of those two types of chemicals. We show that four NEO and five OPE prototypes targeted mostly ectoderm specification, as neural ectoderm and neural crest genes were down-regulated, and surface ectoderm and placode markers up-regulated. Human liver S9 fraction's treatment could generally reduce the effects of the chemicals, except in a few specific instances, indicating the liver may detoxify NEOs and OPEs. Our findings suggest that NEOs and OPEs interfere with human early embryonic development.

Abstract
17β-Estradiol (E2) has been widely detected in natural water and treatment with E2 induces potential endocrine disrupting effects in fish. However, effects on fish fecundity and steroid system after treatment with environmentally relevant concentrations of E2 for the full sexual maturation cycle remain unclear. In this study, zebrafish were treatment with 0, 10 or 100 ng/L E2 from embryo to adult stage, and effects on gonadal development and differentiation, steroid hormone levels, transcription of genes associated with the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal-liver (HPG) axis in adults and fertilization rate of offspring were assessed. The results showed that treatment with E2 lead to increased number of feminization in zebrafish. In females, E2 decreased cumulative amount of spawning and inhibited the maturation of oocyte. In males, E2 inhibited the maturation and motility of sperm, as well as decreased the movement speed of sperm. These adverse effects on sperm might be responsible for the reduced fertilization observed in offspring. In addition, treatment with E2 changed the levels of steroid hormones in zebrafish gonad and altered the transcriptional levels of genes associated with HPG axis, which is responsible for the regulation of germ cells maturation and gonadal development in zebrafish. Overall, these results suggested that treatment with environmentally relevant concentrations of E2 for the full sexual maturity cycle resulted in adverse effects on reproduction in zebrafish.
