Abstract
OBJECTIVE To predict the incidence of postoperative ileus in bladder cancer patients after radical cystectomy. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the perioperative data of 452 bladder cancer patients who underwent radical cystectomy with urinary diversion at the Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University between 2016 and 2021. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to identify the risk factors for postoperative ileus. Finally, a nomogram model was established and verified based on the independent risk factors. RESULTS Our study revealed that 96 patients (21.2%) developed postoperative ileus. Using multivariate logistic regression analysis, we found that the independent risk factors for postoperative ileus after radical cystectomy included age > 65.0 years, high or low body mass index, constipation, hypoalbuminemia, and operative time. We established a nomogram prediction model based on these independent risk factors. Validation by calibration curves, concordance index, and decision curve analysis showed a strong correlation between predicted and actual probabilities of occurrence. CONCLUSION Our nomogram prediction model provides surgeons with a simple tool to predict the incidence of postoperative ileus in bladder cancer patients undergoing radical cystectomy.

Abstract
Campylobacter upsaliensis was the most common Campylobacter species in pets' gastrointestinal tracts and has been isolated from patients with bacteremia, hemolytic-uremic syndrome, spontaneous abortion, and Guillain-Barré syndrome. However, the genetic characteristics and the full extent of its significance as a human pathogen remain to be fully understood. This study involved an investigation for genomic analysis of 154 strains from different sources and additional antimicrobial resistance profiles of 26 strains for this species. The genomes contained 1,558-1,971 CDS and the genome sizes were estimated to vary from 1.53 Mb to 1.86 Mb, with an average GC content of 34.71%. The entire analyzed genomes could be divided into three clades (A, B, and C) based on ANI and phylogenomic analysis. Significantly, nearly all strains in Clade B were isolated from patient samples, and the virulence-related sequences FlgD, GmhA, and CdtC might serve as determining factors for the classification of Clade B. Half of the tested isolates had MIC values over 64 μg mL-1 for nalidixic acid, gentamicin, and streptomycin. Isolates from pets in China carried more resistant elements in the genomes. This study both provided a comprehensive profile of C. upsaliensis for its genomic features and suggested some pathogenic agents for human infection with this species.

Abstract
N,N-bis(carboxymethyl)-l-glutamate (GLDA) is an eco-friendly chelating agent that effectively extracts multivalent metal ions from waste activated sludge (WAS) flocs, which could potentially alter their structure. However, the effect of GLDA on the production of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) from WAS is not well known. Here, we demonstrate that pretreatment with GLDA at a concentration of 200 mmol per kg VSS results in a significant increase of 142% in extractable extracellular polymeric substances and enhances the total VFAs yield by 64% compared to untreated samples. We reveal GLDA's capability to mobilize organic-binding multivalent metal ions within sludge flocs. Specifically, post-pretreatment analyses showed the release of 69.1 mg L-1 of Ca and 109.8 mg L-1 of Fe ions from the flocs, leading to a more relaxed floc structure and a reduced apparent activation energy (10.6 versus 20 kJ mol-1) for WAS solubilization. Molecular dynamic simulations further demonstrate GLDA's preferential binding to Fe3+ and Ca2+ over Mg2+. Our study suggests that GLDA pretreatment causes minimal disruption to reactor stability, thereby indicating the stability of microbial community composition. GLDA has emerged as a viable pretreatment agent for enhancing volatile fatty acids production from waste activated sludge.

Abstract
The infrared spectroscopy (IR) signal of protein is prone to being covered by impurity signals, and the accuracy of the secondary structure content calculated using spectral data is poor. To tackle this challenge, a rapid high-precision quantitative model for protein secondary structure was proposed. Firstly, a two-dimensional correlation calculation was performed based on 60 groups of soybean protein isolates (SPI) infrared spectroscopy data, resulting in a two-dimensional correlation infrared spectroscopy (2DCOS-IR). Subsequently, the optimal characteristic bands of the four secondary structures were extracted from the 2DCOS-IR. Ultimately, partial least squares (PLS), long short-term memory (LSTM), and bidirectional long short-term memory (BILSTM) algorithms were used to model the extracted characteristic bands and predict the content of SPI secondary structure. The findings suggested that BILSTM combined with 2DCOS-IR model (2DCOS-BILSTM) exhibited superior predictive performance. The prediction sets for α-helix, β-sheet, β-turn, and random coil were designated as 0.9257, 0.9077, 0.9476, and 0.8443, respectively, and their corresponding RMSEP values were 0.26, 0.48, 0.20, and 0.15. This strategy enhances the precision of IR and facilitates the rapid identification of secondary structure components within SPI, which is vital for the advancement of protein industrial production.

Abstract
JOURNAL/nrgr/04.03/01300535-202408000-00035/figure1/v/2023-12-16T180322Z/r/image-tiff Exosomes exhibit complex biological functions and mediate a variety of biological processes, such as promoting axonal regeneration and functional recovery after injury. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported to play a crucial role in axonal regeneration. However, the role of the lncRNA-microRNA-messenger RNA (mRNA)-competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network in exosome-mediated axonal regeneration remains unclear. In this study, we performed RNA transcriptome sequencing analysis to assess mRNA expression patterns in exosomes produced by cultured fibroblasts (FC-EXOs) and Schwann cells (SC-EXOs). Differential gene expression analysis, Gene Ontology analysis, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analysis, and protein-protein interaction network analysis were used to explore the functions and related pathways of RNAs isolated from FC-EXOs and SC-EXOs. We found that the ribosome-related central gene Rps5 was enriched in FC-EXOs and SC-EXOs, which suggests that it may promote axonal regeneration. In addition, using the miRWalk and Starbase prediction databases, we constructed a regulatory network of ceRNAs targeting Rps5, including 27 microRNAs and five lncRNAs. The ceRNA regulatory network, which included Ftx and Miat, revealed that exsosome-derived Rps5 inhibits scar formation and promotes axonal regeneration and functional recovery after nerve injury. Our findings suggest that exosomes derived from fibroblast and Schwann cells could be used to treat injuries of peripheral nervous system.

Abstract
Ardisia S.W. (Primulaceae), naturally distributed in tropical and subtropical regions, has edible and medicinal values and is prevalent in clinical and daily use in China. More genetic information for distinct species delineation is needed to support the development and utilization of the genus Ardisia. We sequenced, annotated, and compared the chloroplast genomes of five Ardisia species: A. brunnescens, A. pusilla, A. squamulosa, A. crenata, and A. brevicaulis in this study. We found a typical quadripartite structure in all five chloroplast genomes, with lengths ranging from 155,045 to 156,943 bp. Except for A. pusilla, which lacked the ycf15 gene, the other four Ardisia species contained 114 unique genes, including 79 protein-coding genes, 30 tRNAs, and four rRNAs. In addition, the rps19 pseudogene gene was present only in A. brunnescens. Five highly variable DNA barcodes were identified for five Ardisia species, including trnT-GGU-psbD, trnT-UGU-trnL-UAA, rps4-trnT-UGU, rpl32-trnL-UAG, and rpoB-trnC-GAA. The RNA editiing sites of protein-coding genes in the five Ardisia plastome were characterized and compared, and 274 (A. crenata)-288 (A. brevicaulis) were found. The results of the phylogenetic analysis were consistent with the morphological classification. Sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis showed that ycf15 genes were highly divergent in Primulaceae. Reconstructions of ancestral character states indicated that leaf margin morphology is critical for classifying the genus Ardisia, with a rodent-like character being the most primitive. These results provide valuable information on the taxonomy and evolution of Ardisia plants.

Abstract
The development of cost-effective, high-activity and stable catalysts to accelerate the sluggish kinetics of cathodic oxygen reduction/evolution reactions (ORR/OER) plays a critical part in commercialization application of rechargeable Zn-air batteries (RZABs). Herein, a multiscale nanoengineering strategy is developed to simultaneously stabilize Co-doped Fe nanoparticles originated from metal-organic framework-derived approach and atomic Fe/Co sites derived from metal nanoparticle-atomized way on N-doped hierarchically tubular porous carbon substrate. Thereinto, metal nanoparticles and single atoms are respectively used to expedite the OER and ORR. Consequently, the final material is acted as an oxygen electrode catalyst, displaying 0.684 V of OER/ORR potential gap, 260 mW cm-2 of peak power density for liquid-state RZAB, 110 mW cm-2 of peak power density for solid-state RZAB, and 1000 charge-discharge cycles without decay, which confirms great potential for energy storage and conversion applications.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Although muscle mass and its distribution have been shown to affect prognosis, the association between regional muscle mass and cardiovascular mortality risk in diabetic patients remains unclear. METHODS This prospective cohort study analyzed data from 2166 individuals with diabetes who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Survey conducted in the United States between 2003 to 2006 and 2011 to 2018, linked to the National Death Index. Weighted Kaplan-Meier analysis and multivariable Cox proportional hazards models were used to explore the association between different regional lean mass and cardiovascular mortality. RESULTS The weighted Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed statistically significant differences in survival probabilities across lean upper limbs, lean lower limbs, lean gynoid, and lean trunk mass levels in diabetic participants (P < 0.05). In the multivariate adjusted Cox proportional hazards models, higher levels of upper limb lean mass were found to be associated with decreased cardiovascular mortality (hazard ratio, 0.589; 95% confidence interval, 0.332-0.976; P = 0.041). Notably, this correlation was more significant in men (hazard ratio, 0.378; 95% confidence interval, 0.171-0.834; P = 0.016), which was indicated by the results of the Cox regression and nonlinear regression analysis. CONCLUSIONS Higher upper limb lean mass is associated with lower cardiovascular mortality compared with other regional lean mass in patients with diabetes, especially for men. Further research is needed to elucidate the mechanisms involved in muscle metabolic differentiation.

Abstract
This study utilized computer vision to extract color and texture features of Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (PCR). The ultra-fast gas-phase electronic nose (UF-GC-E-nose) technique successfully identified 98 volatile components, including olefins, alcohols, and esters, which significantly contribute to the flavor profile of PCR. Multivariate statistical Analysis was applied to the appearance traits of PCR, identifying 57 potential marker-trait factors (VIP > 1 and P < 0.05) from the 118 trait factors that can distinguish PCR from different origins. These factors include color, texture, and odor traits. By integrating multivariate statistical Analysis with the BP neural network algorithm, a novel artificial intelligence algorithm was developed and optimized for traceability of PCR origin. This algorithm achieved a 100% discrimination rate in differentiating PCR samples from various origins. This study offers a valuable reference and data support for developing intelligent algorithms that utilize data fusion from multiple intelligent sensory technologies to achieve rapid traceability of food origins.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It is a well-established fact that post-stroke depression (PSD) is a prevalent condition that affects a significant proportion of individuals who have suffered a stroke. Hence, our research endeavors to explore the safety, efficacy and the potential molecular mechanism of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (ta-VNS) for the treatment of depression in PSD patients by conducting a double-blind, sham-controlled, randomized trial. METHODS Patients who had experienced strokes and exhibited depressive symptoms, with a Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD-17) score of ≥8 and met the DSM-IV criteria, were diagnosed with PSD. A volunteer sample of participants (N = 80) were randomly divided into either the ta-VNS group (which received ta-VNS in addition to conventional treatment) or the control group (which received conventional treatment only), in a 1:1 ratio. The effectiveness of the interventions was evaluated using the 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD-17), Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), and Barthel Index (BI) scores. Furthermore, Plasma BDNF, CREB1, and 5-HT levels were measured before and after treatment. RESULTS The concomitant application of ta-VNS demonstrated a remarkable reduction in HAMD-17 and SDS scores, leading to noteworthy enhancements in patients' daily functioning, as evidenced by improved activities of daily living, at all assessed time points, in contrast to the control group (p < 0.0001). Notably, the ta-VNS group exhibited superior effects in modulating the measured neurotrophic biomarkers when compared to the control group (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The synergistic approach of combining ta-VNS with conventional treatment has demonstrated remarkable efficacy and tolerability in managing depression following a stroke.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Increasing evidence has indicated that high tissue stiffness (TS) may be a potential biomarker for evaluation of tumor aggressiveness. PURPOSE To investigate the value of magnetic resonance elastography (MRE)-based quantitative parameters preoperatively predicting the tumor grade and subtype of cervical cancer (CC). STUDY TYPE Retrospective. POPULATION Twenty-five histopathology-proven CC patients and 7 healthy participants. FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE 3.0T, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (LAVA-flex) and MRE with a three-dimensional spin-echo echo-planar imaging. ASSESSMENT The regions of interest (ROIs) were manually drawn by two observers in tumors to measure mean TS, storage modulus (G'), loss modulus (G″) and damping ratio (DR) values. Surgical specimens were evaluated for tumor grades and subtypes. STATISTICAL TESTS Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was expressed in terms of inter-observer agreements. t-test or Mann-Whitney nonparametric test was used to compare the complex modulus and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values between different tumor groups. Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) analysis was used to evaluate the diagnostic performance. RESULTS The TS of endocervical adenocarcinoma (ECA) group was significantly higher than that in squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) group (5.27 kPa vs. 3.44 kPa, P = 0.042). The TS also showed significant difference between poorly and well/moderately differentiated CC (5.21 kPa vs. 3.47 kPa, P = 0.038), CC patients and healthy participants (4.18 kPa vs. 1.99 kPa, P < 0.001). The cutoff value of TS to discriminate ECA from SCC was 4.10 kPa (AUC: 0.80), while it was 4.42 kPa to discriminate poorly from well/moderately differentiated CC (AUC: 0.83), and 2.25 kPa to distinguish normal cervix from CC (AUC: 0.88), respectively. There were no significant difference in G″, DR and ADC values between any subgroups except for comparison of healthy participants and CC patients (P = 0.001, P = 0.004, P < 0.001, respectively). DATA CONCLUSION 3D MRE-assessed TS shows promise as a potential biomarker to preoperatively assess tumor grade and subtype of CC.

Abstract
It is well established in the literature that fraction knowledge is important for learning more advanced mathematics, but the hierarchical relations among whole number arithmetic, fraction knowledge, and mathematics word problem-solving are not well understood. In the current study, Chinese Grade 6 students (N = 1160; 465 girls; Mage = 12.1 years, SD = 0.6) completed whole number arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), fraction (mapping, equivalence, comparison, and arithmetic), and mathematics word problem-solving assessments. They also completed two control measures: number writing speed and nonverbal intelligence. Structural equation modeling was used to investigate the hierarchical relations among these assessments. Among the four fraction tasks, the correlations were low to moderate, suggesting that each task may tap into a unique aspect of fraction understanding. In the model, whole number arithmetic was directly related to all four fraction tasks, but was only indirectly related to mathematics word problem-solving, through fraction arithmetic. Only fraction arithmetic, the most advanced fraction skill, directly predicted mathematics word problem-solving. These findings are consistent with the view that students need to build these associations into their mathematics hierarchy to advance their mathematical competence.

Abstract
β-Cyclodextrin (β-CD) and its derivatives have been widely employed in the field of chiral separation, but they are still faced the limitation of low enantioselectivity and complex processes. Derivatization with functional molecules or preparation as bridging dimers are the two main modifications for β-CD to obtain chiral recognition compounds. Herein, a partially derived bridged β-CD (CPI-EBCD) bonded chiral stationary phases was prepared to improve enantioseparation. The chiral recognition moiety was synthesized by a bridged β-cyclodextrin dimer using a short-chain bridging agent (ethylenediamine) and then modifying the bridged cyclodextrin with a 4-chlorophenylisocyanate (CPI) containing a benzene ring and polar group. Compared with natural β-CD, dual-chambered CPI-EBCDs have better encapsulation synergies and more recognition sites with the guest molecule, while the short flexible bridging groups make the double cavities closer and more easily recognizable as linear molecules. The introduction of derived groups CPI provided more recognition sites and more types of interactions, including π-π interaction force, hydrogen bonding effect, and dipole-dipole interaction, thus improving the enantiomer-specific chirality recognition effect. The chiral stationary phase CPI-EBCDP was obtained by connecting CPI-EDCB with mesoporous silica microspheres by simple photochemical reaction using a green non-toxic diazo resin as coupling agent, simplifying preparation process. In the reversed phase mode of liquid chromatography, CPI-EBCDP has excellent chiral recognition ability, and 12 chiral compounds are successfully isolated by optimizing mobile phase conditions, with good reproducibility and stability. The successful preparation of this new chiral stationary phase provides an important reference for the subsequent development of cyclodextrin-like chiral stationary phases.

Abstract
Streptomycin (STR), an aminoglycoside antibiotic with the potential to persist in honey and other food products, may induce allergy, toxicity and antibiotic resistance in humans. In this study, we developed a solid-phase microextraction (SPME) biosensor based on a quartz rod that was modified with double-stranded DNA structures consisting of partially complementary G-rich base DNA strand and STR aptamer. The STR isolated by SPME initially bound to the aptamer. Then the remaining double-stranded DNA structures were cleaved by the Nt.BstNBI enzyme, resulting in release of G-quadruplex dimers. The latter formed a complex with thioflain T fluorescent dye, resulting in an amplified fluorescence response. The method exhibited high sensitivity (a limit of detection of 10.84 pM), wide linear range (0.05 nM ∼ 500 nM (with determination coefficient > 0.99)), and simple operation, making it suitable and convenient for STR detection. Successful STR determination in genuine honey samples was demonstrated.

Abstract
European grasslands are among the most species-rich ecosystems on small spatial scales. However, human-induced activities like land use and climate change pose significant threats to this diversity. To explore how climate and land cover change will affect biodiversity and community composition in grassland ecosystems, we conducted joint species distribution models (SDMs) on the extensive vegetation-plot database sPlotOpen to project distributions of 1178 grassland species across Europe under current conditions and three future scenarios. We further compared model accuracy and computational efficiency between joint SDMs (JSDMs) and stacked SDMs, especially for rare species. Our results show that: (i) grassland communities in the mountain ranges are expected to suffer high rates of species loss, while those in western, northern and eastern Europe will experience substantial turnover; (ii) scaling anomalies were observed in the predicted species richness, reflecting regional differences in the dominant drivers of assembly processes; (iii) JSDMs did not outperform stacked SDMs in predictive power but demonstrated superior efficiency in model fitting and predicting; and (iv) incorporating co-occurrence datasets improved the model performance in predicting the distribution of rare species. Abstract
In this study, a novel integrated liposome-based microfluidic platform combined with a smartphone was designed for the rapid colorimetric detection of microRNA-21 (miRNA-21) in real samples. The flowing surface-functionalized liposomes were first captured by nucleic acid-functionalized Au nanoparticles in the microfluidic chip. In the presence of miRNA-21, the DNA strand modified on the surface of Au nanoparticles hybridized with the target to form double-stranded products and was cleaved by duplex-specific nuclease (DSN) enzyme, causing the liposomes to be re-released. Then, as the liposomes in the colorimetric module were lysed and the "cellular" contents were released, a step-by-step "glucose-glucose oxidase-3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB)" colorimetric reaction process catalyzed by the G-quadruplex/hemin was triggered. The grayscale values were recorded and recognized by the smartphone camera for miRNA-21 analysis. The advantages of the present strategy included the portability of smartphone-based colorimetric assay, the encapsulation and transport of reactants by liposomes and the low solvent usage of microfluidic chip. Under optimal conditions, this assay exhibited a wide linear range from 1 pM to 1 nM (r2 = 0.9981), and the limit of detection of miRNA-21 was as low as 0.27 pM. Moreover, the high specificity of this strategy allowed its successful application to the rapid analysis of miRNA-21 in real blood serum samples of people with type 2 diabetes.

Abstract
A large number of patients are affected by classical heart failure (HF) symptomatology with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and multiorgan syndrome. Due to high morbidity and mortality rate, hospitalization and mortality remain serious socioeconomic problems, while the lack of effective pharmacological or device treatment means that HFpEF presents a major unmet medical need. Evidence from clinical and basic studies demonstrates that systemic inflammation, increased oxidative stress, and impaired mitochondrial function are the common pathological mechanisms in HFpEF. Tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4), beyond being an endogenous co-factor for catalyzing the conversion of some essential biomolecules, has the capacity to prevent systemic inflammation, enhance antioxidant resistance, and modulate mitochondrial energy production. Therefore, BH4 has emerged in the last decade as a promising agent to prevent or reverse the progression of disorders such as cardiovascular disease. In this review, we cover the clinical progress and limitations of using downstream targets of nitric oxide (NO) through NO donors, soluble guanylate cyclase activators, phosphodiesterase inhibitors, and sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors in treating cardiovascular diseases, including HFpEF. We discuss the use of BH4 in association with HFpEF, providing new evidence for its potential use as a pharmacological option for treating HFpEF.

Abstract
More than 4.5 billion tons of unconventional uranium resources [UO2(CO3)3]4- are uniformly dissolved in seawater, providing a sustainable and abundant fuel source for the development of nuclear energy. Herein, we presented a rational design and development of Ti3C2Tx nanocontainer inspired by the exceptional selectivity and affinity exhibited by superb-uranyl proteins through amino acid intercalation. The amino acid intercalation of Ti3C2Tx demonstrated exceptional UO22+ capture capacity (Arg-Ti3C2Tx, His-Ti3C2Tx, and Lys-Ti3C2Tx with qmax values of 594.46, 846.04, and 1030.17 mg/g). Furthermore, these intercalated materials exhibited remarkable sequestration efficiency and selectivity (Uinitial = ∼45.2 ∼7636 μg/L; ∼84.45% ∼98.08%; and ∼2.72 ×104 ∼1.28 ×105 KdU value), despite the presence of an overwhelming surplus of Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, and Co2+ ions. Significantly, even in the 0.3 M NaHCO3 solution and surpassing 103-fold of the Na3VO4 system, the adsorption efficiency of Lys-Ti3C2Tx still achieved a remarkable 63.73% and 65.05%. Moreover, the Lys-Ti3C2Tx can extract ∼30.23 ∼8664.03 μg/g uranium after 24 h contact in ∼13.3 ∼5000 μg/L concentration from uranium-spiked natural seawater. The mechanism analysis revealed that the high binding capability can be attributed to the chelation of carboxyl and amino groups with uranyl ions. This innovative state-of-the-art approach in regulating uranium harvesting capability through intercalation of amino acid molecules provides novel insights for extracting uranium from seawater.

Abstract
This work addresses the state estimation problem for recurrent neural networks over capacity-constrained communication channels. The intermittent transmission protocol is used to reduce the communication load, where a stochastic variable with a given distribution is used to describe the transmission interval. A corresponding transmission interval-dependent estimator is designed, and an estimation error system based on it is also derived, whose mean-square stability is proved by constructing an interval-dependent function. By analyzing the performance in each transmission interval, sufficient conditions of the mean-square stability and the strict (Q,S,R) - γ -dissipativity are established for the estimation error system. Finally, the correctness and the superiority of the developed result are illustrated by a numerical example.

Abstract
Citrus Huanglongbing (HLB), caused by Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas), is a devastating immune-mediated disorder that has a detrimental effect on the citrus industry, with the distinguishing feature being an eruption of reactive oxygen species (ROS). This study explored the alterations in antioxidant enzyme activity, transcriptome, and RNA editing events of organelles in C. sinensis during CLas infection. Results indicated that there were fluctuations in the performance of antioxidant enzymes, such as ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT), glutathione reductase (GR), peroxidase (POD), and superoxide dismutase (SOD), in plants affected by HLB. Transcriptome analysis revealed 3604 genes with altered expression patterns between CLas-infected and healthy samples, including those associated with photosynthesis, biotic interactions, and phytohormones. Samples infected with CLas showed a decrease in the expression of most genes associated with photosynthesis and gibberellin metabolism. It was discovered that RNA editing frequency and the expression level of various genes in the chloroplast and mitochondrion genomes were affected by CLas infection. Our findings provide insights into the inhibition of photosynthesis, gibberellin metabolism, and antioxidant enzymes during CLas infection in C. sinensis.

Abstract
Biodegradable electrospun bone repair materials are effective means to treat bone defects. However, because the electrospun substrates are mostly organic polymer materials, there is a lack of real-time and intuitive monitoring methods for their degradation in vivo. Therefore, it is of great significance to develop in vivo traced electrospun bone repair materials for postoperative observation of their degradation. In this research, polycaprolactone/up-conversion nanoparticles/magnesium oxide (PCL/UCNPs/MgO) composite scaffolds were prepared by electrospun based on the luminescence characteristics of up-conversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) under near infrared excitation and the osteogenic ability of MgO. The in vivo and in vitro degradation results showed that with the increase of time, the electrospun scaffolds gradually degraded and its luminescence intensity decreased. The addition of UCNPs can effectively monitor the degradation of the scaffolds. In addition, the prepared electrospun scaffolds had great biocompatibility, among which PCL-1%UCNPs-1%MgO (P1U1M) electrospun scaffolds had obvious effect on promoting osteogenic differentiation of mouse embryonic osteoblasts cells (MC3T3-E1) in vitro. In conclusion, P1U1M electrospun scaffolds have the potential to induce bone regeneration at bone defect sites, and can monitor the degradation of electrospun scaffolds. It may be a potential candidate material for bone regeneration in defect area.

Abstract
Immunoassay, as the most commonly used method for protein detection, is simple to operate and highly specific. Sensitivity improvement is always the thrust of immunoassays, especially for the detection of trace quantities. The emergence of artificial enzyme, i.e., DNAzyme, provides a novel approach to improve the detection sensitivity of immunoassay. Simultaneously, its advantages of simple synthesis and high stability enable low cost, broad applicability and long shelf life for immunoassay. In this review, we summarized the recent advances in DNAzyme-based immunoassay. First, we summarized the existing different DNAzymes based on their catalytic activities. Next, the common signal amplification strategies used for DNAzyme-based immunoassays were reviewed to cater to diverse detection requirements. Following, the wide applications in disease diagnosis, environmental monitoring and food safety were discussed. Finally, the current challenges and perspectives on the future development of DNAzyme-based immunoassays were also provided.

Abstract
Exploring the electrocatalysts with high intrinsic activity and stability for both anode and cathode to tolerate the extremely acidic condition in proton exchange membrane water electrolyzer (PEMWE) is crucial for widespread industrial application. Herein, we constructed the bifunctional IrCox nanoalloys with abundant metal vacancies via the combination of chemical reduction and electrochemical treatment for overall water splitting. The developed IrCo0.13 exhibits ultra-low overpotentials of 238 mV for OER and 18.6 mV for HER at 10 mA cm-2 in 0.1 M HClO4, and achieves the exceptional stability of 1000 h for OER and 100 h for HER at 10 mA cm-2. Further, the cell voltage is only 1.68 V to reach a high current density of 1 A cm-2 in PEMWE with IrCo0.13 as the both cathode and anode catalytic layer, and it shows excellent corrosion resistance in acidic environment, evidenced by 415 h stable operation at 1 A cm-2. The strong electronic interactions in the Ir-Co atomic heterostructure and the in-situ generation of Co vacancies by electrochemical oxidation synergistically contribute to the enhanced activity and stability via optimizing the electronic structure of adjacent Ir active sites, enhancing the conductivity and electrochemical active surface area of the catalyst, accelerating charge transfer and kinetics. This work provides a new perspective for designing bifunctional catalysts for practical application in PEMWE.

Abstract
Chemotherapy resistance in ovarian cancer hampers cure rates, with cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) playing a pivotal role. Despite their known impact on cancer progression and chemotherapy resistance, the specific mechanism by which CAFs regulate the tumor inflammatory environment remains unclear. This study reveals that cisplatin facilitates DNA transfer from ovarian cancer cells to CAFs, activating the CGAS-STING-IFNB1 pathway in CAFs and promoting IFNB1 release. Consequently, this reinforces cancer cell resistance to platinum drugs. High STING expression in the tumor stroma was associated with a poor prognosis, while inhibiting STING expression enhanced ovarian cancer sensitivity. Understanding the relevance of the CGAS-STING pathway in CAFs for platinum resistance suggests targeting STING as a promising combination therapy for ovarian cancer, providing potential avenues for improved treatment outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Sepsis is a life-threatening condition implicating an inadequate activation of the immune system. Platelets act as modulators and contributors to immune processes. Indeed, altered platelet turnover, thrombotic events, and changes in thrombopoietin levels in systemic inflammation have been reported, but thrombopoietin-levels in sepsis and septic-shock have not yet been systematically evaluated. We therefore performed a meta-analysis of thrombopoietin (TPO)-levels in patients with sepsis. METHODS Two independent reviewers screened records and full-text articles for inclusion. Scientific databases were searched for studies examining thrombopoietin levels in adult sepsis and septic-shock patients until August 1st 2022. RESULTS Of 95 items screened, six studies met the inclusion criteria, including 598 subjects. Both sepsis and severe sepsis were associated with increased levels of thrombopoietin (sepsis vs. control: standardized mean difference 3.06, 95 % CI 1.35-4.77; Z=3.50, p=0.0005) (sepsis vs. severe sepsis: standardized mean difference -1.67, 95 % CI -2.46 to -0.88; Z=4.14, p<0.0001). TPO-levels did not show significant differences between severe sepsis and septic shock patients but differed between sepsis and inflammation-associated non-septic controls. Overall, high heterogeneity and low sample size could be noted. CONCLUSIONS Concluding, increased levels of thrombopoietin appear to be present both in sepsis and severe sepsis with high heterogeneity but thrombopoietin does not allow to differentiate between severe sepsis and septic-shock. TPO may potentially serve to differentiate sepsis from non-septic trauma and/or tissue damage related (systemic) inflammation. Usage of different assays and high heterogeneity demand standardization of methods and further large multicenter trials.

Abstract
Objective: To establish and validate a predicting nomogram for cervical adenocarcinoma based on surveillance, epidemiology and end results (SEER) database and Chinese single-center data, and to explore the optimal treatment for cervical adenocarcinoma. Methods: This study selected 2 478 cervical adenocarcinoma patients from the SEER database as the training cohort, and 195 cervical adenocarcinoma patients from Cancer Hospital of Dalian University of Technology, Liaouing Cancer Hospital and Institute as an external validation cohort. Clinicopathological information and follow-up data of the two cohorts were collected. The radiotherapy group was defined as receiving comprehensive treatment based on concurrent chemoradiotherapy after initial diagnosis, while the surgery group was defined as receiving comprehensive treatment based on radical surgery. Log-rank test and cox regression were used to evaluate factors affecting the prognosis of cervical adenocarcinoma patients. A nomogram was drawn to predict the 3-year and 5-year overall survival rates of cervical adenocarcinoma patients, and then internal validation of the training cohort from SEER database and external validation of the hospital cohort were conducted. Results: (1) In the SEER database training cohort, there were 385 patients (15.54%, 385/2 478) in the radiotherapy group and 2 093 patients (84.46%, 2 093/2 478) in the surgery group. Overall survival time of the radiotherapy group was (55.8±51.3) months, while that of the surgery roup was (94.4±61.7) months, the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (χ2=256.44, P<0.001). Log-rank test showed that age, marital status, maximum of tumor diameters, pathological grade, International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage, and treatments were all significant factors affecting the overall survival time of cervical adenocarcinoma patients (all P<0.001). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that elder (>50 years old), single status, huge tumors (>4 cm), high pathological grades (G2, G3), and advanced FIGO stages (≥Ⅱa2 stage) were independent risk factors for the overall survival time of cervical adenocarcinoma patients (all P<0.05); compared with radiotherapy, surgery was a protective factor for the prognosis of cervical adenocarcinoma patients (HR=0.619, 95%CI: 0.494-0.777; P<0.001). Further analysis of locally advanced stage and Ⅲc stage of patients showed that surgery was a protective factor for the prognosis of cervical adenocarcinoma patients with a maximum tumor diameter >4 to <6 cm (HR=0.414, 95%CI: 0.182-0.942; P=0.036) in locally advanced stage and Ⅲc T1 to T2 stage (HR=0.473, 95%CI: 0.307-0.728; P=0.001). (2) The external validation cohort consisted of 39 patients (20.00%, 39/195) in the radiotherapy group and 156 patients (80.00%, 156/195) in the surgery group. The overall survival time of patients in the radiotherapy group was (51.7±34.3) months, while that of the surgery group was (63.1±26.6) months (χ2=28.41, P<0.001). Further analysis was conducted on locally advanced stage and Ⅲc stage patients, and multivariate Cox regression analysis was performed after propensity score matching, which showed that surgery was a protective factor for the prognosis of cervical adenocarcinoma patients with a maximum tumor diameter >4 to <6 cm in locally advanced stage (HR=0.141, 95%CI: 0.023-0.843; P=0.032) and Ⅲc T1 to T2 stage (HR=0.184, 95%CI: 0.036-0.947; P=0.043). (3) Establishment and internal and external validation of nomogram: based on the six factors screened out by the multivariate Cox regression model, the nomogram was developed to predict the prognosis of cervical adenocarcinoma patients. The consistency index of the internal and external validation were 0.801 and 0.766, respectively, and the calibration curves matched well with the ideal fitting line. Conclusions: The key to the treatment of cervical adenocarcinoma is to prioritize radical surgery for patients with conditions for radical tumor resection. Compared with concurrent chemoradiotherapy, patients with locally advanced stages (Ⅰb3, Ⅱa2), and Ⅲc (T1, T2) stages cervical adenocarcinoma could benefit from comprehensive treatment based on radical surgery. The nomogram of this study has been validated internally and externally, and show good survival prediction efficacy for cervical adenocarcinoma patients.

Abstract
Raman spectroscopy has been widely used for label-free biomolecular analysis of cells and tissues for pathological diagnosis in vitro and in vivo. AI technology facilitates disease diagnosis based on Raman spectroscopy, including machine learning (PCA and SVM), manifold learning (UMAP), and deep learning (ResNet and AlexNet). However, it is not clear how to optimize the appropriate AI classification model for different types of Raman spectral data. Here, we selected five representative Raman spectral data sets, including endometrial carcinoma, hepatoma extracellular vesicles, bacteria, melanoma cell, diabetic skin, with different characteristics regarding sample size, spectral data size, Raman shift range, tissue sites, Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence, and significant Raman shifts (i.e., wavenumbers with significant differences between groups), to explore the performance of different AI models (e.g., PCA-SVM, SVM, UMAP-SVM, ResNet or AlexNet). For data set of large spectral data size, Resnet performed better than PCA-SVM and UMAP. By building data characteristic-assisted AI classification model, we optimized the network parameters (e.g., principal components, activation function, and loss function) of AI model based on data size and KL divergence etc. The accuracy improved from 85.1 to 94.6% for endometrial carcinoma grading, from 77.1 to 90.7% for hepatoma extracellular vesicles detection, from 89.3 to 99.7% for melanoma cell detection, from 88.1 to 97.9% for bacterial identification, from 53.7 to 85.5% for diabetic skin screening, and mean time expense of 5 s.

Abstract
Anaerostipes hadrus (A. hadrus) is a dominant species in the human gut microbiota and considered a beneficial bacterium for producing probiotic butyrate. However, recent studies have suggested that A. hadrus may negatively affect the host through synthesizing fatty acid and metabolizing the anticancer drug 5-fluorouracil, indicating that the impact of A. hadrus is complex and unclear. Therefore, comprehensive genomic studies on A. hadrus need to be performed. We integrated 527 high-quality public A. hadrus genomes and five distinct metagenomic cohorts. We analyzed these data using the approaches of comparative genomics, metagenomics, and protein structure prediction. We also performed validations with culture-based in vitro assays. We constructed the first large-scale pan-genome of A. hadrus (n = 527) and identified 5-fluorouracil metabolism genes as ubiquitous in A. hadrus genomes as butyrate-producing genes. Metagenomic analysis revealed the wide and stable distribution of A. hadrus in healthy individuals, patients with inflammatory bowel disease, and patients with colorectal cancer, with healthy individuals carrying more A. hadrus. The predicted high-quality protein structure indicated that A. hadrus might metabolize 5-fluorouracil by producing bacterial dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (encoded by the preTA operon). Through in vitro assays, we validated the short-chain fatty acid production and 5-fluorouracil metabolism abilities of A. hadrus. We observed for the first time that A. hadrus can convert 5-fluorouracil to α-fluoro-β-ureidopropionic acid, which may result from the combined action of the preTA operon and adjacent hydA (encoding bacterial dihydropyrimidinase). Our results offer novel understandings of A. hadrus, exceptionally functional features, and potential applications. IMPORTANCE This work provides new insights into the evolutionary relationships, functional characteristics, prevalence, and potential applications of Anaerostipes hadrus.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To analyze the relationship between IL and 6 572C/G polymorphism with sepsis. METHODS Searching 8 databases the Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Biology Medicine (CBM), Chongqing VIP, Embase, PubMed, WanFang Data, and Web of Science from inception to October 1, 2023. Meta-analysis was performed by using Review Manager 5.4 and STATA 15.0. RESULTS 9 studies were included, 1 study was excluded from the previous meta-analysis, and 6 studies were added. Sensitivity analysis suggested that the results were relatively robust. The P values of Egger test indicated that no conspicuous publication bias was found. CONCLUSION According to the meta-analysis results of existing studies, the IL-6 572C/G GG genotype and G allele are risk factors for sepsis, this result changes the previous conclusion that the IL-6 572 polymorphism is not related to sepsis. However, the results still need to be conservatively treated due to the sample size was not large enough.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rapid progressive interstitial lung disease (RP-ILD) is the leading cause of anti-melanoma differentiation associated protein 5 antibody positive dermatomyositis (anti-MDA5+DM) related death. Elevated serum B-cell activating factor (BAFF) levels have been implicated in connective tissue diseases associated ILD. Here, we evaluate whether BAFF could be a prognostic biomarker for predicting RP-ILD in anti-MDA5+DM patients. METHODS Serums were collected from 39 patients with anti-MDA5+DM (20 with RP-ILD and 19 with non-RP-ILD), 20 antisynthase syndrome (ASS) patients and 20 healthy controls (HC). BAFF concentration was measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS Serum BAFF level was higher in anti-MDA5+DM patients than those in ASS patients and HC (3882.32 ± 1880.09 vs. 2540.89 ± 1403.04 and 2486.28 ± 767.97 pg/mL, p = 0.0056 and 0.0038, respectively). Within anti-MDA5+DM groups, RP-ILD patients exhibited higher BAFF concentration than non-RP-ILD group (4549.78 ± 1839.97 vs. 3297.28 ± 1794.69 pg/mL, p = 0.04). The BAFF concentration was positively correlated with levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), dehydrogenase (LDH) and cytokeratin (CK) in anti-MDA5+DM patients (r = 0.350, p = 0.035; r = 0.393, p = 0.016; r = 0.518, p = 0.001; respectively). The best cut-off value of BAFF concentration was 2971.5 pg/mL by ROC curve (AUC area = 0.690, p = 0.045) and BAFF > 2971.5 pg/mL was an independent risk factor for RP-ILD using multivariate analysis (OR = 9.389, 95% CI = 1.609-54.769; p = 0.013). CONCLUSIONS Serum BAFF could be a useful prognostic biomarker for early detecting RP-ILD risk in anti-MDA5+DM patients.

Abstract
Enzymes in nature efficiently catalyze chiral organic molecules by elaborately tuning the geometrical arrangement of atoms in the active site. However, enantioselective oxidation of organic molecules by heterogeneous electrocatalysts is challenging because of the difficulty in controlling the asymmetric structures of the active sites on the electrodes. Here, we show that the distribution of chiral kink atoms on high-index facets can be precisely manipulated even on single gold nanoparticles; and this enabled stereoselective oxidation of hydroxyl groups on various sugar molecules. We characterized the crystallographic orientation and the density of kink atoms and investigated their specific interactions with the glucose molecule due to the geometrical structure and surface electrostatic potential.

Abstract
Biomaterials can induce an inflammatory response in surrounding tissues after implantation, generating and releasing reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The excessive accumulation of ROS may create a microenvironment with high levels of oxidative stress (OS), which subsequently accelerates the degradation of the passive film on the surface of titanium (Ti) alloys and affects their biological activity. The immunomodulatory role of macrophages in biomaterial osteogenesis under OS is unknown. This study aimed to explore the corrosion behavior and bone formation of Ti implants under an OS microenvironment. In this study, the corrosion resistance and osteoinduction capabilities in normal and OS conditions of the Ti-24Nb-4Zr-8Sn (wt %, Ti2448) were assessed. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis indicated that the Ti2448 alloy exhibited superior corrosion resistance on exposure to excessive ROS compared to the Ti-6Al-4V (TC4) alloy. This can be attributed to the formation of the TiO2 and Nb2O5 passive films, which mitigated the adverse effects of OS. In vitro MC3T3-E1 cell experiments revealed that the Ti2448 alloy exhibited good biocompatibility in the OS microenvironment, whereas the osteogenic differentiation level was comparable to that of the TC4 alloy. The Ti2448 alloy significantly alleviates intercellular ROS levels, inducing a higher proportion of M2 phenotypes (52.7%) under OS. Ti2448 alloy significantly promoted the expression of the anti-inflammatory cytokine, interleukin 10 (IL-10), and osteoblast-related cytokines, bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2), which relatively increased by 26.9 and 31.4%, respectively, compared to TC4 alloy. The Ti2448 alloy provides a favorable osteoimmune environment and significantly promotes the proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts in vitro compared to the TC4 alloy. Ultimately, the Ti2448 alloy demonstrated excellent corrosion resistance and immunomodulatory properties in an OS microenvironment, providing valuable insights into potential clinical applications as implants to repair bone tissue defects.

Abstract
Natural Antisense Transcripts (NATs) are a kind of complex regulatory RNAs that play crucial roles in gene expression and regulation. However, the NATs in Cannabis Sativa L., a widely economic and medicinal plant rich in cannabinoids remain unknown. In this study, we comprehensively predicted C. sativa NATs genome-wide using strand-specific RNA sequencing (ssRNA-Seq) data, and validated the expression profiles by strand-specific quantitative reverse transcription PCR (ssRT-qPCR). Consequently, a total of 307 NATs were predicted in C. sativa, including 104 cis- and 203 trans- NATs. Functional enrichment analysis demonstrated the potential involvement of the C. sativa NATs in DNA polymerase activity, RNA-DNA hybrid ribonuclease activity, and nucleic acid binding. Finally, 18 cis- and 376 trans- NAT-ST pairs were predicted to produce 621 cis- and 5,679 trans- small interfering RNA (nat-siRNAs), respectively. These nat-siRNAs were potentially involved in the biosynthesis of cannabinoids and cellulose. All these results will shed light on the regulation of NATs and nat-siRNAs in C. sativa.

Abstract
Highly unsaturated carbon chains are generated in combustion processes and electrical discharges, and are confirmed constituents of the interstellar medium. In hydrogen-rich environments smaller carbon clusters tend to exist as linear chains, capped on each end by hydrogen atoms. Although the HC2nH+ polyacetylene chains have been extensively characterized spectroscopically, the corresponding odd HC2n+1H+ chains have received far less attention. Here we use two-colour resonance enhanced photodissociation spectroscopy to measure electronic spectra for HC2n+1H+ (n = 2-6) chains contained in a cryogenically cooled quadrupole ion trap. The HC2n+1H+ chains are formed either top-down by ionizing and fragmenting pyrene molecules using pulsed 266 nm radiation, or bottom-up by reacting cyclic carbon cluster cations with acetylene. Ion mobility measurements confirm that the HC2n+1H+ species are linear, consistent with predictions from electronic structure calculations. The HC2n+1H+ electronic spectra exhibit three band systems in the visible/near infrared spectral range, which each shifts progressively to longer wavelength by ≈90 nm with the addition of each additional CC subunit. The strongest visible HC11H+ band has a wavelength (λ = 545.1 nm) and width (1.5 nm) that match the strong λ 5450 diffuse interstellar band (DIB). However, other weaker HC11H+ bands do not correspond to catalogued DIBs, casting doubt on the role of HC11H+ as a carrier for the λ 5450 DIB. There are no identifiable correspondences between catalogued DIBs and bands for the other HC2n+1H+ chains, allowing upper limits to be established for their column densities in diffuse interstellar clouds.

Abstract
Lipid metabolic alterations are known to play a crucial role in cancer metastasis. As a key hub in lipid metabolism, intracellular neutral lipid accumulation in lipid droplets (LDs) has become a signature of aggressive human cancers. Nevertheless, it remains unclear whether lipid accumulation displays distinctive features in metastatic lesions compared to the primary ones. Here, we integrated multicolor stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) imaging with confocal Raman spectroscopy on the same platform to quantitatively analyze the amount and composition of LDs in intact human thyroid tissues in situ without any processing or labeling. Inspiringly, we found aberrant accumulation of triglycerides (TGs) in lymphatic metastases but not in normal thyroid, primary papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), or normal lymph node. In addition, the unsaturation degree of unsaturated TGs was significantly higher in the lymphatic metastases from patients diagnosed with late-stage (T3/T4) PTC compared to those of patients diagnosed with early-stage (T1/T2) PTC. Furthermore, both public sequencing data analysis and our RNA-seq transcriptomic experiment showed significantly higher expression of alcohol dehydrogenase-1B (ADH1B), which is critical to lipid uptake and transport, in lymphatic metastases relative to the primary ones. In summary, these findings unravel the lipid accumulation as a novel marker and therapeutic target for PTC lymphatic metastasis that has a poor response to the regular radioactive iodine therapy.

Abstract
The rapid evolution of SARS-CoV-2 is driven in part by a need to evade the antibody response in the face of high levels of immunity. Here, we isolate spike (S) binding monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) from vaccinees who suffered vaccine break-through infections with Omicron sub lineages BA.4 or BA.5. Twenty eight potent antibodies are isolated and characterised functionally, and in some cases structurally. Since the emergence of BA.4/5, SARS-CoV-2 has continued to accrue mutations in the S protein, to understand this we characterize neutralization of a large panel of variants and demonstrate a steady attrition of neutralization by the panel of BA.4/5 mAbs culminating in total loss of function with recent XBB.1.5.70 variants containing the so-called 'FLip' mutations at positions 455 and 456. Interestingly, activity of some mAbs is regained on the recently reported variant BA.2.86.

Abstract
Non-B-form DNA differs from the classic B-DNA double helix structure and plays a crucial regulatory role in replication and transcription. However, the role of non-B-form DNA in centromeres, especially in polyploid wheat, remains elusive. Here, we systematically analyzed seven non-B-form DNA motif profiles (A-phased DNA repeat, direct repeat, G-quadruplex, inverted repeat, mirror repeat, short tandem repeat, and Z-DNA) in hexaploid wheat. We found that three of these non-B-form DNA motifs were enriched at centromeric regions, especially at the CENH3-binding sites, suggesting that non-B-form DNA may create a favorable loading environment for the CENH3 nucleosome. To investigate the dynamics of centromeric non-B form DNA during the alloploidization process, we analyzed DNA secondary structure using CENH3 ChIP-seq data from newly formed allotetraploid wheat and its two diploid ancestors. We found that newly formed allotetraploid wheat formed more non-B-form DNA in centromeric regions compared with their parents, suggesting that non-B-form DNA is related to the localization of the centromeric regions in newly formed wheat. Furthermore, non-B-form DNA enriched in the centromeric regions was found to preferentially form on young LTR retrotransposons, explaining CENH3's tendency to bind to younger LTR. Collectively, our study describes the landscape of non-B-form DNA in the wheat genome, and sheds light on its potential role in the evolution of polyploid centromeres.

Abstract
Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a neurotrophic protein that promotes neuronal survival, increases neurotransmitter synthesis, and has potential therapeutic effects in neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases, but its drug development has been limited by the fact that recombinant proteins of BDNF are unstable and do not penetrate the blood-brain barrier (BBB). In this study, we fused a TAT membrane-penetrating peptide with BDNF to express a recombinant protein (TBDNF), which was then PEG-modified to P-TBDNF. Protein characterization showed that P-TBDNF significantly improved the stability of the recombinant protein and possessed the ability to penetrate the BBB, and in cellular experiments, P-TBDNF prevented MPTP-induced nerve cell oxidative stress damage, apoptosis and inflammatory response, and its mechanism of action was closely related to the activation of tyrosine kinase B (TrkB) receptor and inhibition of microglia activation. In animal experiments, P-TBDNF improved motor and cognitive deficits in MPTP mice and inhibited pathological changes in Parkinson's disease (PD). In conclusion, this paper is expected to reveal the mechanism of action of P-TBDNF in inhibiting neurotoxicity, provide a new way for treating PD, and lay the foundation for the future development of recombinant P-TBDNF.

Abstract
Indoor air quality is of major concern for human health and well-being. Nitrous acid (HONO) is an emerging indoor pollutant, and its indoor mixing ratios are usually higher than outdoor levels, ranging from a few to tens of parts per billion (ppb). HONO exhibits adverse effects to human health due to its respiratory toxicity and mutagenicity. Additionally, HONO can easily undergo photodissociation by ultraviolet light to produce hydroxyl radicals (OH•), which in turn trigger a series of further photochemical oxidation reactions of primary or secondary pollutants. The accumulation of indoor HONO can be attributed to both direct emissions from combustion sources, such as cooking, and secondary formation resulting from enhanced heterogeneous reactions of NOx on indoor surfaces. During the day, the primary sink of indoor HONO is photolysis to OH• and NO. Moreover, adsorption and/or reaction on indoor surfaces, and diffusion to the outside atmosphere contribute to HONO loss both during the day and at night. The level of indoor HONO is also affected by human occupancy, which can influence household factors such as temperature, humidity, light irradiation, and indoor surfaces. This comprehensive review article summarized the research progress on indoor HONO pollution based on indoor air measurements, laboratory studies, and model simulations. The environmental and health effects were highlighted, measurement techniques were summarized, pollution levels, sources and sinks, and household influencing factors were discussed, and the prospects in the future were proposed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE CiteSpace6.1.R2 is used to analyze the research status of acupuncture in the treatment of cerebral infarction, and to find relevant hot spots and frontiers. METHODS The researchers searched the Web of Science Core Collection database. The search date is from the establishment of the database to August 31, 2023. The search terms and expressions are: ("Cerebral Infarction" OR "Ischemic stroke") AND ("Acupuncture" OR "fire needle"). The researchers used CiteSpace software to draw a knowledge map to explore the hot spots and frontiers of acupuncture in treating cerebral infarction. RESULTS We screened 414 articles in the Web of Science Core Collection database. China is the country with the largest number of publications, with a total of 343 papers published. China's institutions cooperate most closely, and cooperation between countries is less and more scattered. The author with the highest number of published articles is Chen L, with a total of 31 published articles. The research focus mainly revolves around the mechanism of acupuncture treatment of cerebral infarction and electroacupuncture treatment of cerebral infarction. Among them, acupuncture treatment of cerebral infarction is the most. CONCLUSION According to CiteSpace's analysis results, China is at the forefront of this research field, while other countries have less research in this field and little cooperation among countries. At present, the mainstream aspect of research is the mechanism of acupuncture treatment of cerebral infarction electroacupuncture and acupuncture points. Therefore, in future research, we should pay more attention to the treatment of cerebral infarction mechanism of acupuncture, problems with the type of acupuncture used, and acupuncture points.

Abstract
Color deepening occurs during storage of ready-to-eat (RTE) shrimps, which seriously affects their marketing cycle. This study investigated the molecular mechanisms of color deterioration in RTE shrimps during accelerated storage, shedding light on the pattern of change in colored products and content. The findings revealed significant occurrences of phenolic oxidation, lipid oxidation, and Maillard browning reactions during accelerated storage. Qualitative and quantitative analyses were conducted on the colored products resulting from these chemical reactions. Multivariate mathematical models were employed to analyze the phenolic oxidation products (2-methylanthraquinone and p-benzoquinone), lipid oxidation products (lipofuscin-like pigments and hydrophobic pyrroles), and Maillard browning products (pyrazines and melanoidins). These products were identified as the main contributors to the deepening of the color of RTE shrimps during storage. The outcomes of this research could enhance our understanding of the color change mechanism in thermally processed marine foods, providing valuable insights for quality maintenance and industrial advancement.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. OBJECTIVE The study aimed to compare the radiological parameters, clinical outcomes, and long-term effects of the posterior osteosynthesis with polyaxial screw-rod system and the monoaxial screw-rod system in the treatment of unstable atlas fractures. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 33 patients with posterior ORIF for unstable atlas fractures in our hospital from August 2013 to June 2020, with a minimum of 3 years of follow-up. Polyaxial screws (group A) were used in 12 patients and monoaxial screws (group B) in 21 patients. Perioperative data, radiological parameters, and clinical outcomes were collected and compared between the 2 surgical approaches. RESULTS The operative time, blood loss, time of screw-rod system placement, and hospital stay were significantly lower in group A than in group B. At the last follow-up, the visual analog scale (VAS) score and anterior arch reduction rate of the atlas in group A were lower than those in group B, while the lateral mass displacement (LMD) in group A was higher than that in group B. There was no significant difference between Group A and Group B in terms of the anterior atlantodental interval (AADI), posterior arch reduction rate of the atlas, range of motion (ROM), and neck disability index (NDI). CONCLUSIONS Monoaxial screws can achieve better reduction results for unstable atlas fractures, especially for the anterior arch of atlas. However, the surgical operation of monoaxial screws is more complicated than that of polyaxial screws and has more complications. Appropriate implants should be selected for the treatment of unstable atlas fractures based on the type of atlas fracture, the experience of surgeons, and the demands of patients.

Abstract
In bone tissue engineering, the bone immunomodulatory properties of biomaterials are critical for bone regeneration, which is a synergistic process involving physiological activities like immune response, osteogenesis, and angiogenesis. The effect of the macrophage immune microenvironment on the osteogenesis and angiogenesis of various material extracts was examined in this experiment using Mg2+and Nano-hydroxyapatite/collagen (nHAC) in both a single application and a combined form. This studyin vitrorevealed that the two compounds combined significantly inhibited the NF-κB signaling pathway and reduced the release of inflammatory factors from macrophages when compared with the extraction phase alone. Additionally, by contributing to the polarization of macrophages towards the M2 type, the combined effects of the two materials can significantly improve osteogenesis/angiogenesis. The results ofin vivoexperiments confirmed that Mg2+/nHAC significantly promoted bone regeneration and angiogenesis. This study offers a promising method for enhancing bone graft material osseointegration.

Abstract
AIMS Both hypercapnia and hypocapnia are common in patients with acute heart failure (AHF), but the association between partial pressure of arterial carbon dioxide (PaCO2) and AHF prognosis remains unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate the connection between PaCO2 within 24 h after admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) and mortality during hospitalization and at 1 year in AHF patients. METHODS AND RESULTS AHF patients were enrolled from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV database. The patients were divided into three groups by PaCO2 values of <35, 35-45, and >45 mmHg. The primary outcome was to investigate the connection between PaCO2 and in-hospital mortality and 1 year mortality in AHF patients. The secondary outcome was to assess the prediction value of PaCO2 in predicting in-hospital mortality and 1 year mortality in AHF patients. A total of 2374 patients were included in this study, including 457 patients in the PaCO2 < 35 mmHg group, 1072 patients in the PaCO2 = 35-45 mmHg group, and 845 patients in the PaCO2 > 45 mmHg group. The in-hospital mortality was 19.5%, and the 1 year mortality was 23.9% in the PaCO2 < 35 mmHg group. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the PaCO2 < 35 mmHg group was associated with an increased risk of in-hospital mortality [hazard ratio (HR) 1.398, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.039-1.882, P = 0.027] and 1 year mortality (HR 1.327, 95% CI 1.020-1.728, P = 0.035) than the PaCO2 = 35-45 mmHg group. The PaCO2 > 45 mmHg group was associated with an increased risk of in-hospital mortality (HR 1.387, 95% CI 1.050-1.832, P = 0.021); the 1 year mortality showed no significant difference (HR 1.286, 95% CI 0.995-1.662, P = 0.055) compared with the PaCO2 = 35-45 mmHg group. The Kaplan-Meier survival curves showed that the PaCO2 < 35 mmHg group had a significantly lower 1 year survival rate. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for predicting in-hospital mortality was 0.591 (95% CI 0.526-0.656), and the 1 year mortality was 0.566 (95% CI 0.505-0.627) in the PaCO2 < 35 mmHg group. CONCLUSIONS In AHF patients, hypocapnia within 24 h after admission to the ICU was associated with increased in-hospital mortality and 1 year mortality. However, the increase in 1 year mortality may be influenced by hospitalization mortality. Hypercapnia was associated with increased in-hospital mortality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Motor cognitive risk syndrome (MCR) represents a critical pre-dementia and disability state characterized by a combination of objectively measured slow walking speed and subjective memory complaints (SMCs). This study aims to identify risk factors for MCR and investigate the relationship between plasma levels of 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and MCR among Chinese community-dwelling elderly populations. METHODS A total of 1312 participants were involved in this study based on the data of the Rugao Longevity and Aging Study (RuLAS). The MCR was characterized by SMCs and slow walking speed. The SCCs were defined as a positive answer to the question 'Do you feel you have more problems with memory than most?' in a 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale. Slow walking speed was determined by one standard deviation or more below the mean value of the patient's age and gender group. The plasma of 8-OHdG were measured by a technician in the biochemistry laboratory of the Rugao People's Hospital during the morning of the survey. RESULTS The prevalence of MCR was found to be 7.9%. After adjusting for covariates, significant associations with MCR were observed in older age (OR 1.057; p = 0.018), history of cerebrovascular disease (OR 2.155; p = 0.010), and elevated 8-OHdG levels (OR 1.007; p = 0.003). CONCLUSIONS This study indicated the elevated plasma 8-OHdG is significantly associated with increased MCR risk in the elderly, suggesting its potential as a biomarker for early detection and intervention in MCR. This finding underscores the importance of monitoring oxidative DNA damage markers in predicting cognitive and motor function declines, offering new avenues for research and preventive strategies in aging populations.

Abstract
68Ga-labeled nanobody (68Ga-NC-BCH) is a single-domain antibody-based PET imaging agent. We conducted a first-in-humans study of 68Ga-NC-BCH for PET to determine its in vivo biodistribution, metabolism, radiation dosimetry, safety, and potential for quantifying claudin-18 isoform 2 (CLDN18.2) expression in gastrointestinal cancer patients. Methods: Initially, we synthesized the probe 68Ga-NC-BCH and performed preclinical evaluations on human gastric adenocarcinoma cell lines and xenograft mouse models. Next, we performed a translational study with a pilot cohort of patients with advanced gastrointestinal cancer on a total-body PET/CT scanner. Radiopharmaceutical biodistribution, radiation dosimetry, and the relationship between tumor uptake and CLDN18.2 expression were evaluated. Results: 68Ga-NC-BCH was stably prepared and demonstrated good radiochemical properties. According to preclinical evaluation,68Ga-NC-BCH exhibited rapid blood clearance, high affinity for CLDN18.2, and high specific uptake in CLDN18.2-positive cells and xenograft mouse models. 68Ga-NC-BCH displayed high uptake in the stomach and kidney and slight uptake in the pancreas. Compared with 18F-FDG, 68Ga-NC-BCH showed significant differences in uptake in lesions with different levels of CLDN18.2 expression. Conclusion: A clear correlation was detected between PET SUV and CLDN18.2 expression, suggesting that 68Ga-NC-BCH PET could be used as a companion diagnostic tool for optimizing treatments that target CLDN18.2 in tumors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diagnosing early lumbar spondylolisthesis is challenging for many doctors because of the lack of obvious symptoms. Using deep learning (DL) models to improve the accuracy of X-ray diagnoses can effectively reduce missed and misdiagnoses in clinical practice. PURPOSE This study aimed to use a two-stage deep learning model, the Res-SE-Net model with the YOLOv8 algorithm, to facilitate efficient and reliable diagnosis of early lumbar spondylolisthesis based on lateral X-ray image identification. METHODS A total of 2,424 lumbar lateral radiographs of patients treated in the Beijing Tongren Hospital between January 2021 and September 2023 were obtained. The data were labeled and mutually identified by three orthopedic surgeons after reshuffling in a random order and divided into a training set, validation set, and test set in a ratio of 7:2:1. We trained two models for automatic detection of spondylolisthesis. YOLOv8 model was used to detect the position of lumbar spondylolisthesis, and the Res-SE-Net classification method was designed to classify the clipped area and determine whether it was lumbar spondylolisthesis. The model performance was evaluated using a test set and an external dataset. Finally, we compared model validation results with professional clinicians' evaluation. RESULTS The model achieved promising results, with a high diagnostic accuracy of 92.3%, precision of 93.5%, and recall of 93.1% for spondylolisthesis detection on the test set, the area under the curve (AUC) value was 0.934. CONCLUSION Our Two-stage deep learning model provides doctors with a reference basis for the better diagnosis and treatment of early lumbar spondylolisthesis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neuroinflammation, impaired metabolism, and hypoperfusion are fundamental pathological hallmarks of early Alzheimer's disease (AD). Numerous studies have asserted a close association between neuroinflammation and disrupted cerebral energetics. During AD progression and other neurodegenerative disorders, a persistent state of chronic neuroinflammation reportedly exacerbates cytotoxicity and potentiates neuronal death. Here, we assessed the impact of a neuroinflammatory challenge on metabolic demand and microvascular hemodynamics in the somatosensory cortex of an AD mouse model. METHODS We utilized in vivo 2-photon microscopy and the phosphorescent oxygen sensor Oxyphor 2P to measure partial pressure of oxygen (pO2) and capillary red blood cell flux in cortical microvessels of awake mice. Intravascular pO2 and capillary RBC flux measurements were performed in 8-month-old APPswe/PS1dE9 mice and wildtype littermates on days 0, 7, and 14 of a 14-day period of lipopolysaccharide-induced neuroinflammation. RESULTS Before the induced inflammatory challenge, AD mice demonstrated reduced metabolic demand but similar capillary red blood cell flux as their wild type counterparts. Neuroinflammation provoked significant reductions in cerebral intravascular oxygen levels and elevated oxygen extraction in both animal groups, without significantly altering red blood cell flux in capillaries. CONCLUSIONS This study provides evidence that neuroinflammation alters cerebral oxygen demand at the early stages of AD without substantially altering vascular oxygen supply. The results will guide our understanding of neuroinflammation's influence on neuroimaging biomarkers for early AD diagnosis.
