Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW The assumption has been made that urbanization adversely affects mental health, primarily attributed to the lack of access to nature. Our objective is to examine whether nature-based interventions can reduce psychopathology within an urban setting. RECENT FINDINGS Nature-based interventions are generally categorized as either physical or virtual. Physical interventions engage participants in various activities like passive exposure, outdoor swimming, or physical activities in natural environments. On the other hand, virtual interventions expose participants to visual, auditory, or even olfactory stimuli to simulate natural environments. While most interventions achieved some degree of success in enhancing overall well being, not all demonstrated a significant reduction in depression and anxiety. SUMMARY The review identified a shortage of well designed and well implemented outdoor or virtual nature-based interventions. Longitudinal designs in physical nature-based interventions provided the strongest evidence for reducing anxiety and depression. Multisensory virtual nature-based interventions also show significant potential for alleviating anxiety and depression in urban dwellers. Conversely, brief nature-based interventions yielded inconsistent results in improving mental health. Urgent investment in high-quality interventions and research in this domain is imperative to inform policy and enhance overall mental health in urban settings.

Abstract
The pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis (UC) is closely related to severe inflammation, damaged colonic mucosal barrier, increased oxidative stress and intestinal ecological imbalance. However, due to the nonspecific distribution and poor bioavailability of drugs, UC treatment is still a serious challenge. Here, a mitochondria/colon dual targeted nanoparticles based on redox response was developed to effectively alleviate UC. Cannabidiol nanoparticles (CBD NPs) with a particle size of 143.2 ± 3.11 nm were prepared by self-assembly using polymers (TPP-IN-LA) obtained by modifying inulin with (5-carboxypentyl) triphenyl phosphonium bromide (TPP) and α-lipoic acid (α-LA). Excitingly, the constructed CBD NPs showed excellent mitochondrial targeting, with a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.76 at 12 h. The results of animal imaging in vivo showed that CBD NPs could be effectively accumulated in colon tissue. Not only that, CBD showed significant glutathione stimulated release in the presence of 10 mM glutathione at pH 7.4. The results of in vivo animal experiments showed that CBD NPs significantly ameliorated DSS-induced colonic inflammation by modulating the TLR4-NF-κB signaling pathway. Moreover, CBD NPs significantly improved the histological damage of colon in UC mice, increased the expression level of tight junction protein ZO-1, and effectively restored the intestinal mucosal barrier function and intestinal mucosal permeability. More importantly, CBD NPs significantly improved the species composition, abundance and amount of short chain fatty acids of intestinal flora in UC mice, thus effectively maintaining the balance of intestinal flora. The dual-targeted and glutathione-responsive nanoparticles prepared in this study provide a promising idea for achieving targeted delivery of CBD for effective treatment of UC.

Abstract
PURPOSE Diabetic bladder fibrosis is a common comorbidity. Altered expression of some long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) has been associated with bladder fibrosis. LncRNA H19 has been reported to regulate bladder cancer through miR-29b. However, the action mechanism of LncRNA H19 in bladder fibrosis is unclear. METHODS In vitro, human bladder smooth muscle cells (HBSMCs) were cultured with transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) for 48 h to construct cell model of bladder fibrosis. HBSMCs were then transfected with si-LncRNA H19, si-NC, miR-29b-mimic, mimic-NC, or miR-29b-inhibitor. In vivo, Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were given a high-sucrose-high-fat (HSHF) diet for 4 weeks and injected with streptozotocin (STZ, 50 mg/kg) to induce bladder fibrosis model in diabetic rats, followed by injection of lentiviral particles knocking down LncRNA H19 expression, empty vector, or miR-29b-inhibitor, respectively. RESULTS LncRNA H19 was up-regulated in TGF-β1-induced HBSMC fibrosis and STZ-induced diabetic rat bladder fibrosis, whereas miR-29b was down-regulated. si-LncRNA H19 reduced blood glucose levels and improved histopathological damage of bladder tissue in rats. In addition, si-LncRNA H19 or miR-29b-mimic increased the expression of E-cadherin, but decreased the expression of N-cadherin, vimentin, fibronectin (FN) in bladder tissues, and HBSMCs. si-LncRNA H19 reduced TGF-β1/p-drosophila mothers against decapentaplegic 3 (Smad3) protein in HBSMCs and in rat bladder tissues, while miR-29b-inhibitor reversed the effect of si-LncRNA H19. CONCLUSION This study indicated that LncRNA H19 may inhibit bladder fibrosis in diabetic rats by targeting miR-29b via the TGF-β1/Smad3 signalling pathway.

Abstract
Pigs serve as a robust animal model for the study of human diseases, notably in the context of disorders of sex development (DSD). This study aims to investigate the phenotypic characteristics and molecular mechanisms underlying the reproductive and developmental abnormalities of 38,XX ovotestis-DSD (OT-DSD) and 38,XX testis-DSD (T-DSD) in pigs. Clinical and transcriptome sequencing analyses were performed on DSD and normal female pigs. Cytogenetic and SRY analyses confirmed that OT/T-DSD pigs exhibited a 38,XX karyotype and lacked the SRY gene. The DSD pigs had higher levels of follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and progesterone, but lower testosterone levels when compared with normal male pigs. The reproductive organs of OT/T-DSD pigs exhibit abnormal development, displaying both male and female characteristics, with an absence of germ cells in the seminiferous tubules. Sex determination and development-related differentially-expressed genes (DEGs) shared between DSD pigs were identified in the gonads, including WT1, DKK1, CTNNB1, WTN9B, SHOC, PTPN11, NRG1 and NXK3-1. DKK1 is proposed as a candidate gene for investigating the regulatory mechanisms underlying gonadal phenotypic differences between OT-DSD and T-DSD pigs. Consequently, our findings provide insights into the molecular pathogenesis of DSD pigs and present an animal model for studying into DSD in humans.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy (NCIT) for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is supported by increasing data, but the sample size is limited, and the findings are not completely consistent. We conducted a real-world study and a meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of NCIT in locally advanced ESCC. METHODS We retrospectively assessed the outcomes of patients with locally advanced ESCC who completed NICT and subsequent esophagectomy at our hospital between January 2019 and December 2022, including pathological complete response (pCR) rate, major pathological response (MPR) rate, 1-, 2-, and 3-year overall survival (OS) rates, disease control rate (DCR), objective response rate (ORR), 1-year recurrence rate, R0 resection rate and adverse events. Moreover, a meta-analysis of 27 published literatures was also conducted for comparison. RESULTS In the analysis, 128 patients were studied, with 25% achieving pCR, 46.1% MPR, and 99.2% R0 resection. The 1-, 2-, and 3-year OS rates were 91.41% (95% CI: 85.15%-95.63%), 75.00% (95% CI: 66.58%-82.23%) and 64.84% (95% CI: 55.91%-73.07%).ORR and DCR were 31.2% (95% CI: 23.31-39.99) and 64.1% (95% CI: 55.15%-72.38%), and the 1-year recurrence rate was 26.7% (95% CI: 22.5%-38.1%). Treatment-related events occurred in 96.1% but were acceptable. In a meta-analysis of 27 studies with 1734 patients, pooled rates for pCR, MPR, ORR, DCR, and R0 resection were 29%, 52%, 71%, 97%, and 98%, respectively, with a 1-year recurrence rate of 12%. CONCLUSION NCIT is safe and provides potential survival benefits for patients with locally advanced ESCC. However, randomized phase 3 trial data is still needed.

Abstract
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus Type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) emerged at the end of 2019, causing a highly infectious and pathogenic disease known as 2019 coronavirus disease. This disease poses a serious threat to human health and public safety. The SARS-CoV-2 main protease (Mpro) is a highly sought-after target for developing drugs against COVID-19 due to its exceptional specificity. Its crystal structure has been extensively documented. Numerous strategies have been employed in the investigation of Mpro inhibitors. This paper is primarily concerned with Fragment-based Drug Discovery (FBDD), which has emerged as an effective approach to drug design in recent times. Here, we summarize the research on the approach of FBDD and its application in developing inhibitors for SARS-CoV-2 Mpro.

Abstract
The detection of multiple single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is still a great challenge. In this study, we designed enzyme-assisted nucleic acid strand displacement amplification combined with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for the simultaneous detection of three ctDNA SNPs. First, the trace ctDNA could be hybridized to the specially designed template strand, which initiated the strand displacement nucleic acid amplification process under the synergistic action of DNA polymerase and restriction endonuclease. Then, the targets would be replaced with G-quadruplex fluorescent probes with different tail lengths. Finally, the HPLC-fluorescence assay enabled the separation and quantification of multiple signals. Notably, this method can simultaneously detect both the wild type (WT) and mutant type (MT) of multiple ctDNA SNPs. Within a linear range of 0.1 fM-0.1 nM, the detection limits of BRAF V600E-WT, EGFR T790M-WT, and KRAS 134A-WT and BRAF V600E-MT, EGFR T790M-MT, and KRAS 134A-MT were 29, 31, and 11 aM and 22, 29, and 33 aM, respectively. By using this method, the mutation rates of multiple ctDNA SNPs in blood samples from patients with lung or breast cancer can be obtained in a simple way, providing a convenient and highly sensitive analytical assay for the early screening and monitoring of lung cancer.

Abstract
The rate of soybean canopy establishment largely determines photoperiodic sensitivity, subsequently influencing yield potential. However, assessing the rate of soybean canopy development in large-scale field breeding trials is both laborious and time-consuming. High-throughput phenotyping methods based on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems can be used to monitor and quantitatively describe the development of soybean canopies for different genotypes. In this study, high-resolution and time-series raw data from field soybean populations were collected using UAVs. The RGB (red, green, and blue) and infrared images are used as inputs to construct the multimodal image segmentation model-the RGB & Infrared Feature Fusion Segmentation Network (RIFSeg-Net). Subsequently, the segment anything model was employed to extract complete individual leaves from the segmentation results obtained from RIFSeg-Net. These leaf aspect ratios facilitated the accurate categorization of soybean populations into 2 distinct varieties: oval leaf type variety and lanceolate leaf type variety. Finally, dynamic modeling was conducted to identify 5 phenotypic traits associated with the canopy development rate that differed substantially among the classified soybean varieties. The results showed that the developed multimodal image segmentation model RIFSeg-Net for extracting soybean canopy cover from UAV images outperformed traditional deep learning image segmentation networks (precision = 0.94, recall = 0.93, F1-score = 0.93). The proposed method has high practical value in the field of germplasm resource identification. This approach could lead to the use of a practical tool for further genotypic differentiation analysis and the selection of target genes.

Abstract
The catalytic and enantioselective construction of quaternary (all-carbon substituents) stereocenters poses a formidable challenge in organic synthesis due to the hindrance caused by steric factors. One conceptually viable and potentially versatile approach is the coupling of a C-C bond through an outer-sphere mechanism, accompanied by the realization of enantiocontrol through cooperative catalysis; however, examples of such processes are yet to be identified. Herein, we present such a method for creating different compounds with quaternary stereocenters by photoredox/Fe/chiral primary amine triple catalysis. This approach facilitates the connection of an unactivated alkyl source with a tertiary alkyl moiety, which is also rare. The scalable process exhibits mild conditions, does not necessitate the use of a base, and possesses a good functional-group tolerance. Preliminary investigations into the underlying mechanisms have provided valuable insights into the reaction pathway.

Abstract
Background Currently, there is a lack of well-established markers to predict the efficacy of chemoimmunotherapy in small-cell lung cancer (SCLC). Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), advanced lung cancer inflammation index (ALI) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) are associated with prognosis in several tumors, whereas their predictive role in SCLC remains unclear. Methods A retrospective study was conducted at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, involving extensive-stage SCLC (ES-SCLC) patients who received first-line chemoimmunotherapy between January 2020 and December 2021. Peripheral blood biomarkers were extracted from medical records and their correlation with prognosis and immune-related adverse events (IRAEs) was analyzed. Results A total of 114 patients were included. Patients with a low PLR, high ALI and high PNI had prolonged progression-free survival (PFS) compared to those with a high PLR, low ALI and low PNI. Patients with a low NLR, low PLR, high ALI and high PNI had prolonged overall survival (OS) compared to those with a high NLR, high PLR, low ALI and low PNI. Cox regression model showed that PNI was an independent risk factor for both PFS and OS. ROC curve showed that PNI outperforms NLR, PLR and ALI in predicting both PFS and OS. The PNI-based nomogram demonstrated strong predictive capability for both PFS and OS. In addition, there was a significant correlation between PNI and IRAEs. Conclusion A high baseline PNI might be associated with improved prognosis and the occurrence of IRAEs in ES-SCLC patients treated with first-line chemoimmunotherapy.

Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a destructive autoimmune disease, where nitric oxide (NO) is closely implicated in the inflammatory processes of RA. Therefore, direct visualization of NO is essential to assess the pathological changes in RA. Herein, a mitochondrial-targeted near-infrared ratiometric fluorescent probe (NFL-NH2), based on the intramolecular charge transfer effect, was synthesized and applied to monitor the changes of NO content in early RA. Specially, probe NFL-NH2 showed a 44-fold fluorescent intensity ratio (I705/I780) response toward NO with a detection limit of 0.536 nM, enabling qualitative and quantitative analysis of NO. Additionally, NFL-NH2 can accurately target mitochondria and sensitively detect exogenous and endogenous NO in RAW 264.7 cells. Notably, in vivo RA monitoring assays demonstrated that NFL-NH2 can rapidly detect NO levels associated with the inflammatory damage degree in RA mice models by ratiometric fluorescence imaging. These results validate that NFL-NH2 holds significant potential for diagnosing NO-mediated RA diseases.

Abstract
Pruritus of lymphoma is commonly associated with both Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and angioimmunoblastic T cell lymphoma (AITL) and critically affects the life quality of patient. Recent evidence suggests that the pruritogenic cytokines seem to play a significant role in the genesis of chronic. This study aims to investigate the cytokines associated with itching in lymphoma patients and provide the basis for potential therapeutic targets. Serum samples were collected from 60 lymphoma patients, including 47 with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and 13 with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL), serving as the observation group (lymphoma group, LP group, n = 60). Additionally, serum samples from 8 healthy donors (HD group, n = 8) were collected for comparison. Within the lymphoma group, patients were stratified into those with pruritus (LWP group, n = 30) and those without pruritus (LWOP group, n = 30) based on the presence of skin pruritus symptoms. Elevated levels of multiple cytokines were significantly observed in the LP group in comparison to the HD group (p < 0.01). Patients in LWP group exhibited higher serum levels of IL-31 (p < 0.001), IL-1β (P = 0.039), and IL-1α (P = 0.037) compared to LWOP group. Notably, serum IL-31 levels were higher in advanced AITL patients (stage IV) than in early AITL patients (stage I-Ⅲ, P < 0.05). In subgroup analysis, patients with pruritus in the AITL group exhibited higher serum levels of MIG and CTACK compared to HL group, whereas PDGF-BB levels were significantly lower (p < 0.05). Elevated serum levels of IL-31, IL-1β, and IL-1α are linked to lymphoma-associated pruritus. Differences in serum cytokine profiles between HL and AITL subgroups are also highlighted. These findings offer valuable insights for clinical intervention in managing lymphoma-related pruritus.

Abstract
An in situ gel separator based on an electrospun three-layer nanofibrous membrane (PSE11-Gel) is developed for high-performance lithium-organic batteries (LOBs). The highly efficient shuttle effect inhibition of organic cathode molecules or lithiated intermediates has been demonstrated for PSE11-Gel to realize high-capacity stable LOBs.

Abstract
Brucella consists of gram-negative bacteria that have the ability to invade and replicate in professional and non-professional phagocytes, and its prolonged persistence in the host leads to brucellosis, a serious zoonosis. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are the best-known sensors of microorganisms implicated in the regulation of innate and adaptive immunity. In particular, TLRs are transmembrane proteins with a typical structure of an extracellular leucine-rich repeat (LRR) region and an intracellular Toll/interleukin-1 receptor (TIR) domain. In this review, we discuss Brucella infection and the aspects of host immune responses induced by pathogens. Furthermore, we summarize the roles of TLRs in Brucella infection, with substantial emphasis on the molecular insights into its mechanisms of action.

Abstract
Regarding the impact of microplastics (MPs) on the male reproductive system, previous studies have identified a variety of MPs in both human semen and testicular samples. These studies have put forward the hypothesis that small particles can enter the semen through the epididymis and seminal vesicles. Here, we performed qualitative and quantitative analyses of MPs in human testis, semen, and epididymis samples, as well as in testis, epididymis, seminal vesicle, and prostate samples from mice via pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS). The goal of this approach was to comprehensively characterize the distribution of MPs within the male reproductive system. Additionally, we aimed to evaluate potential sources of MPs identified in semen, as well as to identify possible sources of overall MP exposure. Our results highlighted a general atlas of MPs in the male reproductive system and suggested that MPs in semen may originate from the epididymis, seminal vesicles, and prostate. An exposure questionnaire, coupled with the characteristics of the MPs detected in the male reproductive system, revealed that high urbanization, home-cooked meals, and using scrub cleansers were important sources of MP exposure in men. These findings may provide novel insights into alleviating the exposure of men to MPs.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the prospective association of sleep duration with the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adults in Suzhou. Methods: The study used the data of 53 269 participants aged 30-79 years recruited in the baseline survey from 2004 to 2008 and the follow-up until December 31, 2017 of China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) conducted in Wuzhong District, Suzhou. After excluding participants with airflow limitation, self-reported chronic bronchitis/emphysema/coronary heart disease history at the baseline survey and abnormal or incomplete data, a total of 45 336 participants were included in the final analysis. The association between daily sleep duration and the risk for developing COPD was analyzed by using a Cox proportional hazard regression model, and the hazard ratio (HR) values and their 95%CI were calculated. The analysis was stratified by age, gender and lifestyle factors, and cross-analysis was conducted according to smoking status and daily sleep duration. Results: The median follow-up time was 11.12 years, with a total of 515 COPD diagnoses in the follow-up. After adjusting for potential confounders, multifactorial Cox proportional hazard regression analysis showed that daily sleep duration ≥10 hours was associated with higher risk for developing COPD (HR=1.42, 95%CI: 1.03-1.97). The cross analysis showed that excessive daily sleep duration increased the risk for COPD in smokers (HR=2.49, 95%CI: 1.35-4.59, interaction P<0.001). Conclusion: Longer daily sleep duration (≥10 hours) might increase the risk for COPD in adults in Suzhou, especially in smokers.

Abstract
In electro-surgery, surgical smoke was hazard to surgeons and patient in theatre. In order to institute effective countermeasures, quantifying of the effect of tip temperature of electro-surgical unit to surgical smoke distribution in theatre was studied. The relation of tip temperature to power of electro-surgical unit through in vitro cutting experiment. Based on experiment data, the mathematical model was established to simulate the electro-surgery in laminar operation room. As the power of electro-surgical knife increased, the knife tip temperature increased. Total content of (CO, CO2, CH4, NH3) in waste gas and net flow rate of waste gas at outlet increased with the rising temperature of knife tip and formation rate of condensed tar droplets and non-viable particles also increased. Based on simulation, it was found that The maximum height of surgical smoke rising right above the incision of electro-surgical unit was increased with rising temperature of electro-surgical knife tip. There was a spread route of dispersed surgical smoke near the walls of theatre through natural convection. The polynomial fitting relationship was derived. As the tip temperature of knife increased from 200 to 500°C, maximum ascending height of surgical smoke right above the incision position of electro-surgical unit increased from 1.1 m to 1.45 m. When the tip temperature of electro-knife was more 400°C, the CO content in the surgeon's operating zone was more than 200 ppm, which would cause the surgeon's HbCO level increased. As the patient's tissue in the wound during operation was open, when the electro-knife of more than 400°C, the content of condensed tar droplets and in-viable particle was higher than 20 g/m3 and 12 g/m3 in the zone around patient's wound of open tissue, which should be hazard to health of patient.

Abstract
Background Molybdenum diselenide (MoSe2), as a nano near-infrared absorber, has been widely studied in the field of photothermal therapy of cancer. However, there is little research on its application in the treatment of human choriocarcinoma. Methods and Results In this paper, a new type of carbon-coated MoSe2 (MEC) nanoparticles was prepared by a one-step hydrothermal method. The chemical characterization including SEM, TEM, EDS, XRD, FT-IR, TGA, Roman, and XPS showed that MEC was successfully synthesized. MEC exhibited a high photothermal conversion efficiency (50.97%) and extraordinary photothermal stability under laser irradiation. The cell experiment results showed that MEC had good biocompatibility on normal cells while significant photothermal effect on human choriocarcinoma (JEG-3) cells, achieving a good anticancer effect. The level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in JEG-3 cells was significantly increased under the combination of MEC nanoparticles and near-infrared radiation. MEC nanoparticles could induce apoptosis of JEG-3 cells in combination with near-infrared radiation. Finally, transcriptomic analysis verified that MEC combined with laser radiation could inhibit DNA replication and induce apoptosis, thus improving its therapeutic effect on human choriocarcinoma. Conclusion MEC nanoparticles exert an excellent photothermal effect and may become an important candidate drug for the treatment of human choriocarcinoma.

Abstract
Background Several studies have pointed to the critical role of gut microbiota (GM) and their metabolites in Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) pathogenesis. However, the detailed causal relationship between GM and HSCR remains unknown. Methods In this study, we used two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to investigate the causal relationship between GM and HSCR, based on the MiBioGen Consortium's genome-wide association study (GWAS) and the GWAS Catalog's HSCR data. Reverse MR analysis was performed subsequently, and the sensitivity analysis, Cochran's Q-test, MR pleiotropy residual sum, outlier (MR-PRESSO), and the MR-Egger intercept were used to analyze heterogeneity or horizontal pleiotropy. 16S rDNA sequencing and targeted mass spectrometry were developed for initial validation. Results In the forward MR analysis, inverse-variance weighted (IVW) estimates suggested that Eggerthella (OR: 2.66, 95%CI: 1.23-5.74, p = 0.01) was a risk factor for HSCR, while Peptococcus (OR: 0.37, 95%CI: 0.18-0.73, p = 0.004), Ruminococcus2 (OR: 0.32, 95%CI: 0.11-0.91, p = 0.03), Clostridiaceae1 (OR: 0.22, 95%CI: 0.06-0.78, p = 0.02), Mollicutes RF9 (OR: 0.27, 95%CI: 0.09-0.8, p = 0.02), Ruminococcaceae (OR: 0.16, 95%CI: 0.04-0.66, p = 0.01), and Paraprevotella (OR: 0.45, 95%CI: 0.21-0.98, p = 0.04) were protective factors for HSCR, which had no heterogeneity or horizontal pleiotropy. However, reverse MR analysis showed that HSCR (OR: 1.02, 95%CI: 1-1.03, p = 0.049) is the risk factor for Eggerthella. Furthermore, some of the above microbiota and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) were altered in HSCR, showing a correlation. Conclusion Our analysis established the relationship between specific GM and HSCR, identifying specific bacteria as protective or risk factors. Significant microbiota and SCFAs were altered in HSCR, underlining the importance of further study and providing new insights into the pathogenesis and treatment.

Abstract
Cadmium (Cd) is the main heavy metal pollutant in sediments from East China. The biochar-sediment nexus can provide carbon sequestration and pollution control. In this work, an in situ study was conducted to investigate the long-term effects and control mechanism of biochar and the effect of biochar aging on Cd stabilization in overlying water-pore water-sediment. The Cd2+ concentration in the overlying water was positively correlated with total nitrogen (0.960, P < 0.05), total organic carbon (0.983, P < 0.05), and total phosphorus (0.993, P < 0.01) in pore water. Biochar stabilized Cd2+ by increasing the pH and oxidation-reduction potential of the sediment environment and promoting the formation of Cd1.25Ca0.75(P2O7) on the biochar surface in sediment from phosphorus-rich water. These changes were closely related to the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area and average pore size of the biochar. Within 60 days, the biochar in the sediment underwent aging, which was closely related to the preparation temperature of the biochar. The organic composition of biochar prepared at a low temperature (≤ 300 °C) and the surface structure of biochar prepared at a high temperature (≥ 500 °C) were altered. The biochar parameter changes were in the order of pore volume > Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area > pore size. Our results show that biochar modification can enhance the remediation capacity of biochar, but may be unfavorable to biochar anti-aging. This knowledge will support policymakers and researchers when exploring long-term biochar use in contamination control and strengthen future research.

Abstract
Importance Neoadjuvant therapy combining programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) and programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitors with platinum-based chemotherapy has demonstrated significant improvement in pathologic response and survival rates among patients with resectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, it remains controversial whether PD-1 blockade therapy given before and after surgery (neoadjuvant-adjuvant treatment) is associated with better outcomes than when given only before surgery (neoadjuvant-only treatment). Objective To compare the efficacy and safety associated with neoadjuvant-adjuvant anti-PD-1 and anti-PD-L1 therapy with neoadjuvant-only anti-PD-1 and anti-PD-L1 therapy for patients with resectable NSCLC. Data Sources A systematic search was conducted across databases including PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library, as well as major oncology conferences, through July 31, 2023. Study Selection Randomized clinical trials comparing neoadjuvant-adjuvant or neoadjuvant-only PD-1 and PD-L1 inhibitor therapy vs chemotherapy alone for patients with resectable NSCLC were selected. Data Extraction and Synthesis Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) reporting guideline, 2 authors independently extracted data. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% CIs for event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) were extracted and then pooled through the generic inverse-variance methods. Relative risks (RRs) for treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs) were derived via the Mantel-Haenszel method. Using chemotherapy as a common comparator, indirect comparisons between neoadjuvant-adjuvant immunotherapy and neoadjuvant-only immunotherapy were conducted using frequentist methods. A random or fixed model was used based on intertrial heterogeneity identified through the Cochran Q test. Main Outcomes and Measures The primary outcome was EFS, with secondary outcomes including OS and TRAEs. Results The study encompassed 4 trials of neoadjuvant-adjuvant immunotherapy and 1 trial of neoadjuvant-only immunotherapy, involving 2385 patients. Direct meta-analysis revealed significant improvements in EFS for both neoadjuvant-adjuvant and neoadjuvant-only immunotherapy compared with chemotherapy alone. In indirect meta-analysis, the addition of adjuvant immunotherapy to neoadjuvant immunotherapy was not associated with improved EFS (HR, 0.90; 95% CI, 0.63-1.30; P = .59) or OS (HR, 1.18; 95% CI, 0.73-1.90; P = .51) compared with neoadjuvant-only immunotherapy. Moreover, the incidence of any grade of TRAEs significantly increased with the addition of adjuvant immunotherapy (RR, 1.08; 95% CI, 1.00-1.17; P = .04). Conclusions and Relevance This meta-analysis suggests that adding PD-1 or PD-L1 inhibitors in the adjuvant phase to neoadjuvant treatment with PD-1 or PD-L1 inhibitors and chemotherapy may not improve survival outcomes for patients with resectable NSCLC and may be associated with increased adverse events. Future validation of these findings is warranted through head-to-head randomized clinical trials.

Abstract
PURPOSE To identify the genetic cause of a cryptorchidism patient carrying a non-canonical splicing variant highlighted by SPCards platform in RXFP2 and to provide a comprehensive overview of RXFP2 variants with cryptorchidism correlation. METHODS We identified a homozygous non-canonical splicing variant by whole-exome sequencing and Sanger sequencing in a case with cryptorchidism and non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA). As the pathogenicity of this non-canonical splicing variant remained unclear, we initially utilized the SPCards platform to predict its pathogenicity. Subsequently, we employed a minigene splicing assay to further evaluate the influence of the identified splicing variant. Microdissection testicular sperm extraction (micro-TESE) combined with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) was performed. PubMed and Human Genome Variant Database (HGMD) were queried to search for RXFP2 variants. RESULTS We identified a homozygous non-canonical splicing variant (NM_130806: c.1376-12A > G) in RXFP2, and confirmed this variant caused aberrant splicing of exons 15 and 16 of the RXFP2 gene: 11 bases were added in front of exon 16, leading to an abnormal transcript initiation and a frameshift. Fortunately, the patient successfully obtained his biological offspring through micro-TESE combined with ICSI. Four cryptorchidism-associated variants in RXFP2 from 90 patients with cryptorchidism were identified through a literature search in PubMed and HGMD, with different inheritance patterns. CONCLUSION This is the first cryptorchidism case carrying a novel causative non-canonical splicing RXFP2 variant. The combined approach of micro-TESE and ICSI contributed to an optimal pregnancy outcome. Our literature review demonstrated that RXFP2 variants caused cryptorchidism in a recessive inheritance pattern, rather than a dominant pattern.

Abstract
Multitask image clustering approaches intend to improve the model accuracy on each task by exploring the relationships of multiple related image clustering tasks. However, most existing multitask clustering (MTC) approaches isolate the representation abstraction from the downstream clustering procedure, which makes the MTC models unable to perform unified optimization. In addition, the existing MTC relies on exploring the relevant information of multiple related tasks to discover their latent correlations while ignoring the irrelevant information between partially related tasks, which may also degrade the clustering performance. To tackle these issues, a multitask image clustering method named deep multitask information bottleneck (DMTIB) is devised, which aims at conducting multiple related image clustering by maximizing the relevant information of multiple tasks while minimizing the irrelevant information among them. Specifically, DMTIB consists of a main-net and multiple subnets to characterize the relationships across tasks and the correlations hidden in a single clustering task. Then, an information maximin discriminator is devised to maximize the mutual information (MI) measurement of positive samples and minimize the MI of negative ones, in which the positive and negative sample pairs are constructed by a high-confidence pseudo-graph. Finally, a unified loss function is devised for the optimization of task relatedness discovery and MTC simultaneously. Empirical comparisons on several benchmark datasets, NUS-WIDE, Pascal VOC, Caltech-256, CIFAR-100, and COCO, show that our DMTIB approach outperforms more than 20 single-task clustering and MTC approaches.

Abstract
The potential application of succinylated chickpea protein (SCP) as a wall material for spray-dried microencapsulated probiotics was investigated. The results showed that succinylation increased the surface charge of chickpea proteins (CP) and reduced the particle size of the proteins. Meanwhile, succinylated modification decreased the solubility of protein under acidic conditions and increased the solubility in alkaline conditions. The effects of spray drying and in vitro gastrointestinal digestion on probiotics were investigated by microencapsulating chickpea protein with different degrees of N-succinylation. The results showed that all microcapsules had similar morphology, particle size and low water content. The microcapsules prepared by succinylated chickpea protein showed better stability and viability during spray drying and gastrointestinal digestion. The protective effect of probiotics was better as the degree of N-succinylation increased. In particular, the SCP-3-P sample (10 % succinic anhydride modified CP and maltodextrin) lost only 0.29 Log CFU/g throughout gastrointestinal digestion. The superior protective effect provided by succinylated CP in simulated gastric fluid (SGF) was mainly attributed to the reaction of succinic anhydride with protein to cause protein aggregation under gastric acidic conditions, reducing the infiltration of gastric acid and pepsin and maintaining the structural integrity of the microcapsules. Therefore, these findings provide a new strategy for probiotic intestinal delivery and application of chickpea protein.

Abstract
Background Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most prevalent malignancy globally, ranking as the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Emerging evidence highlights RAB10's involvement in the progression of various malignant tumors; however, its specific role in CRC remains unclear. Objective To explore the oncogenic role of RAB10 in colorectal cancer progression by investigating its impact on NF-κB activation, aiming to identify a novel genetic biomarker for enhanced diagnosis and treatment of CRC. Methods This study collected CRC tissue samples and utilized The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database for RAB10 expression verification through Western blot (WB). Cellular phenotype experiments were conducted on CRC cell lines, including quantitative real-time-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), CCK-8, transwell assay, and wound healing assay (HCT116 and SW480). Additionally, the impact of RAB10 on NF-κB signaling was assessed through qRT-PCR and WB. Results RAB10 exhibited upregulation in CRC tissue samples compared to normal counterparts. Furthermore, RAB10 promoted the proliferation, migration, and invasion of HCT116 and SW480 cells. Notably, RAB10 induced NF-κB activation in CRC in vitro. Conclusion This study revealed the oncogenic function of RAB10, explaining its role in activating NF-κB in CRC. The findings present RAB10 as a potential genetic biomarker for CRC diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are monoclonal antibody antagonists, which can block cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA-4), programmed death-1/ligand-1 (PD-1/PD-L1) pathways, and other molecules exploited by tumor cells to evade T cell-mediated immune response. ICIs have transformed the treatment landscape for various cancers due to their amazing efficacy. Many anti-tumor therapies, including targeted therapy, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, combine ICIs to make the treatment more effective. However, the off-target immune activation caused by ICIs may lead to a broad spectrum of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) affecting multiple organ systems. Among irAEs, cardiotoxicity induced by ICIs, uncommon but fatal, has greatly offset survival benefits from ICIs, which is heartbreaking for both patients and clinicians. Consequently, such cardiotoxicity requires special vigilance, and it has become a common challenge both for patients and clinicians. This article reviewed the clinical manifestations and influence of cardiotoxicity from the view of patients and clinicians, elaborated on the underlying mechanisms in conjunction with animal studies, and then attempted to propose management strategies from a cardio-immuno-oncology multidisciplinary perspective.

Abstract
We propose and demonstrate a tunable fractional-order photonic differentiator (DIFF) that can process input pulses with a sub-gigahertz bandwidth. Our scheme utilizes the self-induced optical modulation effect observed in a silicon-on-insulator micro-ring resonator. Gaussian-like pulses with varying pulse widths between 7.5 and 20 ns are employed for differentiation, achieving an energy efficiency over 45%, to the best of our knowledge, which surpasses all previously reported schemes for input pulses with a sub-gigahertz bandwidth. We simulate the temporal dynamics of pulses to gain insight into the physical mechanisms underlying the differentiated outputs and provide a method for differentiation order adjustment, which is experimentally realized using an all-optical pump-probe technique.

Abstract
Background To date, the role of programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) messenger RNA (mRNA) derived from tumor-educated platelets (TEPs) has not been well investigated in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A few reports have examined whether mRNA in TEPs can predict the clinical responses of patients with advanced NSCLC following immunotherapy. This study aimed to identify novel biomarkers to improve the clinical benefits and outcomes of NSCLC patients. Methods Advanced NSCLC patients receiving a combination of immunotherapy and chemotherapy, or immunotherapy alone as a first- or second-line treatment at the Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center were enrolled in this study. All the patients had wild-type epidermal growth factor receptor/anaplastic lymphoma kinase. The patients were enrolled in clinical trials for immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), including nivolumab, pembrolizumab, atezolizumab, durvalumab, tremelimumab, and camrelizumab. Tumoral PD-L1 expression was tested by immunohistochemistry (PD-L1 22C3 pharmDx kit, Agilent, Santa Clara, CA, USA) in archived tissue samples, when available, to calculate the tumor proportion scores (TPSs). RNA and exosomal RNA of blood were isolated before immunotherapy using the Yunying RNA extraction kit (Yunying Medicine, Shanghai, China). The concentration and quality of the RNA was determined using a Qubit fluorometer (Life Technologies, Carlsbad, CA, USA). Finally, we analyzed the predictive value of TEP-derived PD-L1 mRNA expression and association with the level of the tumoral PD-L1 expression. Results In total, 72 patients were enrolled in this study. Most of the patients were male (n=54, 75.0%), had adenocarcinoma (n=49, 68.1%). We found there was no significant correlation between the TEP-derived mRNA of PD-L1 and tumoral PD-L1 expression based on the results of the Pearson Correlation test (r=-0.19, P=0.233). Based on the median of PD-L1 mRNA, 72 patients were divided into a high PD-L1 group and a low PD-L1 group. We found that 19 patients (44.4%) responded to immunotherapy [partial response or progression-free survival (PFS) >6 months] in the high PD-L1 group, but only five patients (13.9%) responded to immunotherapy in the low PD-L1 group (P<0.01). The median PFS of the low PD-L1 group was lower than that of the high PD-L1 group (2.8 vs. 8.3 months, P<0.001). For the patients who were treated with immunotherapy alone (n=64), a similar PFS advantage was observed in the high PD-L1 group (2.8 vs. 8.0 months, P=0.002). Conclusions This article presented the first data on TEP-derived PD-L1 mRNA in advanced NSCLC patients following immunotherapy and showed the potential advantage of using it as the surrogate biomarker for predicting the PFS and overall survival of patients following immunotherapy.

Abstract
Accumulation of insoluble deposits of amyloid β-peptide (Aβ), derived from amyloid precursor protein (APP) processing, represents one of the major pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Perturbations in APP transport and hydrolysis could lead to increased Aβ production. However, the precise mechanisms underlying APP transport remain elusive. The GDP dissociation inhibitor2 (GDI2), a crucial regulator of Rab GTPase activity and intracellular vesicle and membrane trafficking, was investigated for its impact on AD pathogenesis through neuron-specific knockout of GDI2 in 5xFAD mice. Notably, deficiency of GDI2 significantly ameliorated cognitive impairment, prevented neuronal loss in the subiculum and cortical layer V, reduced senile plaques as well as astrocyte activation in 5xFAD mice. Conversely, increased activated microglia and phagocytosis were observed in GDI2 ko mice. Further investigation revealed that GDI2 knockout led to more APP co-localized with the ER rather than the Golgi apparatus and endosomes in SH-SY5Y cells, resulting in decreased Aβ production. Collectively, these findings suggest that GDI2 may regulate Aβ production by modulating APP intracellular transport and localization dynamics. In summary, our study identifies GDI2 as a pivotal regulator governing APP transport and process implicated in AD pathology; thus highlighting its potential as an attractive pharmacological target for future drug development against AD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the clinical characteristics and prognosis of pneumococcal meningitis (PM), and drug sensitivity of Streptococcus pneumoniae (SP) isolates in Chinese children. METHODS A retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical information, laboratory data, and microbiological data of 160 hospitalized children under 15 years old with PM from January 2019 to December 2020 in 33 tertiary hospitals across the country. RESULTS Among the 160 children with PM, there were 103 males and 57 females. The age ranged from 15 days to 15 years, with 109 cases (68.1%) aged 3 months to under 3 years. SP strains were isolated from 95 cases (59.4%) in cerebrospinal fluid cultures and from 57 cases (35.6%) in blood cultures. The positive rates of SP detection by cerebrospinal fluid metagenomic next-generation sequencing and cerebrospinal fluid SP antigen testing were 40% (35/87) and 27% (21/78), respectively. Fifty-five cases (34.4%) had one or more risk factors for purulent meningitis, 113 cases (70.6%) had one or more extra-cranial infectious foci, and 18 cases (11.3%) had underlying diseases. The most common clinical symptoms were fever (147 cases, 91.9%), followed by lethargy (98 cases, 61.3%) and vomiting (61 cases, 38.1%). Sixty-nine cases (43.1%) experienced intracranial complications during hospitalization, with subdural effusion and/or empyema being the most common complication [43 cases (26.9%)], followed by hydrocephalus in 24 cases (15.0%), brain abscess in 23 cases (14.4%), and cerebral hemorrhage in 8 cases (5.0%). Subdural effusion and/or empyema and hydrocephalus mainly occurred in children under 1 year old, with rates of 91% (39/43) and 83% (20/24), respectively. SP strains exhibited complete sensitivity to vancomycin (100%, 75/75), linezolid (100%, 56/56), and meropenem (100%, 6/6). High sensitivity rates were also observed for levofloxacin (81%, 22/27), moxifloxacin (82%, 14/17), rifampicin (96%, 25/26), and chloramphenicol (91%, 21/23). However, low sensitivity rates were found for penicillin (16%, 11/68) and clindamycin (6%, 1/17), and SP strains were completely resistant to erythromycin (100%, 31/31). The rates of discharge with cure and improvement were 22.5% (36/160) and 66.2% (106/160), respectively, while 18 cases (11.3%) had adverse outcomes. CONCLUSIONS Pediatric PM is more common in children aged 3 months to under 3 years. Intracranial complications are more frequently observed in children under 1 year old. Fever is the most common clinical manifestation of PM, and subdural effusion/emphysema and hydrocephalus are the most frequent complications. Non-culture detection methods for cerebrospinal fluid can improve pathogen detection rates. Adverse outcomes can be noted in more than 10% of PM cases. SP strains are high sensitivity to vancomycin, linezolid, meropenem, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, rifampicin, and chloramphenicol.

Abstract
Topological insulators offer significant potential to revolutionize diverse fields driven by nontrivial manifestations of their topological electronic band structures. However, the realization of superior integration between exotic topological states and superconductivity for practical applications remains a challenge, necessitating a profound understanding of intricate mechanisms. Here, we report experimental observations for a novel superconducting phase in the pressurized second-order topological insulator candidate Ta2Pd3Te5, and the high-pressure phase maintains its original ambient pressure lattice symmetry up to 45 GPa. Our in situ high-pressure synchrotron X-ray diffraction, electrical transport, infrared reflectance, and Raman spectroscopy measurements, in combination with rigorous theoretical calculations, provide compelling evidence for the association between the superconducting behavior and the densified phase. The electronic state change around 20 GPa was found to modify the topology of the Fermi surface directly, which synergistically fosters the emergence of robust superconductivity. In-depth comprehension of the fascinating properties exhibited by the compressed Ta2Pd3Te5 phase is achieved, highlighting the extraordinary potential of topological insulators for exploring and investigating high-performance electronic advanced devices under extreme conditions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Inguinal hernia repair is a common pediatric procedure. We studied postoperative recovery times in children undergoing laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair with anesthesia induced by fentanyl versus sufentanil. METHODS We performed a pilot randomized clinical trial between February and December 2022. Eligible children were assigned into two age groups, 2-6 and 6-12 years old groups. Then, children in each age group were randomly assigned into either the fentanyl (2 µg/kg) or sufentanil (0.2 µg/kg) group for anesthesia induction. Baseline characteristics were collected. The primary outcome was the postoperative recovery time, which was recorded as the time period from extubation to a Steward recovery score reaching 6. Secondary outcomes included surgical duration, anesthetic duration, intubation duration, and intraoperative hemorrhage. RESULTS There were 300 children, with 75 children in each group. In the 2-6 years old group, children who received fentanyl had statistically significantly shorter postoperative recovery times than children who received sufentanil (0.9 ± 0.4 versus 1.5 ± 0.3 h, P < 0.001). However, in the 6-12 years old group, children who received fentanyl had statistically significantly longer postoperative recovery times than children who received sufentanil (1.2 ± 0.4 versus 0.8 ± 0.4 h, P < 0.001). Baseline characteristics and secondary outcomes were comparable between two groups. CONCLUSIONS Anesthesia induction with fentanyl or sufentanil resulted in different postoperative recovery times after laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair in children in different age groups. More studies are required to determine the appropriate induction anesthetic in children of different ages. TRIAL REGISTRATION The study protocol was retrospectively registered online at the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (registration number ChiCTR2300072177, retrospectively registered on 06/06/2023).

Abstract
Interference from nonspecific binding imposes a fundamental limit in the sensitivity of biosensors that is dependent on the affinity and specificity of the available sensing probes. The dynamic single-molecule sensing (DSMS) strategy allows ultrasensitive detection of biomarkers at the femtomolar level by identifying specific binding according to molecular binding traces. However, the accuracy in classifying binding traces is not sufficient from separate features, such as the bound lifetime. Here, we establish a DSMS workflow to improve the sensitivity and linearity by classifying molecular binding traces in surface plasmon resonance microscopy with multiple kinetic features. The improvement is achieved by correlation analysis to select key features of binding traces, followed by unsupervised k-clustering. The results show that this unsupervised classification approach improves the sensitivity and linearity in microRNA (hsa-miR155-5p, hsa-miR21-5p, and hsa-miR362-5p) detection to achieve a limit of detection at the subfemtomolar level.

Abstract
In this digital age, where parental attention is often diverted by digital engagement, the phenomenon of "parental phubbing," defined as parents ignoring their children in favor of mobile devices, is scrutinized for its potential impact on child development. This study, utilizing questionnaire data from 612 parents and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with moderated mediation, examines the potential association between parental phubbing and young children's electronic media use. The findings revealed a correlation between parental phubbing and increased electronic media use in children. Parent-child conflict, informed by instances of parental phubbing, was identified as a partial mediator in this relation. Notably, children's emotion regulation emerged as a moderating factor, with adept regulation linked to reduced adverse effects of parental phubbing and improved relational harmony. These findings underscore the importance of parental awareness of their digital behaviors and the benefits of fostering robust parent-child relationships and supporting children's emotional regulation to nurture well-adjusted "digital citizens" in the contemporary media landscape.

Abstract
Grade II/III gliomas have a highly heterogeneous clinical course. Identifying prognostic biomarkers in grade II/III gliomas is essential to guide clinical management. We explored epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related genes to uncover prognostic features in grade II/III gliomas. Consensus cluster analysis of 200 EMT-related genes classified 512 grade II/III glioma samples into two molecular subtypes, C1 and C2. The C1 subtype had significantly worse overall survival compared to the C2 subtype. Pathway analysis revealed C1 tumors were highly associated with tumor progression pathways and demonstrated higher immune cell infiltration scores. Differential expression analysis identified four genes (ACTN1, AQP1, LAMC3, NRM) that discriminated the two subtypes. Validation in external datasets confirmed that high expression of this four-gene signature predicted poor prognosis in grade II/III gliomas. Cellular experiments showed ACTN1, AQP1 and NRM promoted glioma cell proliferation, migration and invasion. We examined correlations of the signature genes with T cell exhaustion markers and found ACTN1 expression had the strongest association. Immunohistochemistry analysis further demonstrated that ACTN1 protein expression in grade II/III gliomas was negatively correlated with patient overall survival. In summary, our study identified a concise four-gene signature that robustly predicts grade II/III gliomas prognosis across multiple datasets. The signature provides clinical relevance in distinguishing more aggressive grade II/III glioma tumors. Targeting the ACTN1, AQP1 and NRM genes may offer new therapeutic opportunities to improve grade II/III gliomas patient outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To develop an end-to-end deep neural network for the classification of contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) images to facilitate breast cancer diagnosis in the clinic. METHODS In this retrospective mono-centric study, patients who underwent CEM examinations from January 2019 to August 2021 were enrolled. A multi-feature fusion network combining low-energy (LE) and dual-energy subtracted (DES) images and dual view, as well as bilateral information, was trained and tested using a large CEM dataset with a diversity of breast tumors for breast lesion classification. Its generalization performance was further evaluated on two external datasets. Results were reported using AUC, accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. RESULTS A total of 2496 patients (mean age, 53 years ± 12 (standard deviation)) were included and divided into a training set (1718), a validation set (255), and a testing set (523). The proposed CEM-based multi-feature fusion network achieved the best diagnosis performance with an AUC of 0.96 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.95, 0.97), compared with the no-fusion model, the left-right fusion model, and the multi-feature fusion network with only LE image inputs. Our models reached an AUC of 0.90 (95% CI: 0.85, 0.94) on a full-field digital mammograph (FFDM) external dataset (86 patients), and an AUC of 0.92 (95% CI: 0.89, 0.95) on a CEM external dataset (193 patients). CONCLUSION The developed multi-feature fusion neural network achieved high performance in CEM image classification and was able to facilitate CEM-based breast cancer diagnosis. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT Compared with low-energy images, CEM images have greater sensitivity and similar specificity in malignant breast lesion detection. The multi-feature fusion neural network is a promising computer-aided diagnostic tool for the clinical diagnosis of breast cancer. KEY POINTS • Deep convolutional neural networks have the potential to facilitate contrast-enhanced mammography-based breast cancer diagnosis. • The multi-feature fusion neural network reaches high accuracies in the classification of contrast-enhanced mammography images. • The developed model is a promising diagnostic tool to facilitate clinical breast cancer diagnosis.

Abstract
AIM To undertake a meta-analysis of the prognostic value of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging feature tracking (CMR-FT) in patients with light-chain cardiac amyloidosis (LCA). MATERIALS AND METHODS A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library. All analyses were conducted using RevMan 5.3 software. RESULTS Eight studies were included with 663 patients. For the left ventricle, the results showed that CMR-FT was statistically significant in predicting death, with less impaired global circumferential (GCS), radial (GRS) and longitudinal (GLS) strain in survivors of LCA (odds ratio [OR] 1.17, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.09-1.25; 0.95, 0.93-0.96; 1.12, 1.05-1.20, all p<0.001). For ejection fraction (EF) and mass index, surviving patients had higher EFs and mass index (OR 0.96, 95% CI 0.96-0.97; 1.01, 1.01-1.02). For the right ventricle, the results showed that CMR-FT was statistically significant in predicting death, with less impaired GLS and GRS in survivors of LCA (OR 1.11, 95% CI 1.08-1.15; 0.93, 0.90-0.96, all p<0.001). Surviving patients had higher EFs (OR 0.97, 95% CI 0.96-0.98, p<0.001). Upon removing the studies one by one, there was no significant change in the results of the study. Both analyses showed no apparent publication deviation on funnel plots. CONCLUSION Parameters derived from CMR-FT technology are promising new predictors for LCA, and are easily available and reliable. Patients with poor myocardial deformability are at highest risk of death.

Abstract
Background The aim of the study is to demonstrate that radiomics of preoperative multi-sequence magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can indeed improve the predictive performance of microvascular invasion (MVI) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods A total of 206 patients with pathologically confirmed HCC who underwent preoperative enhanced MRI were retrospectively recruited. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis identified the independent clinicoradiologic predictors of MVI present and constituted the clinicoradiologic model. Recursive feature elimination (RFE) was applied to select radiomics features (extracted from six sequence images) and constructed the radiomics model. Clinicoradiologic model plus radiomics model formed the clinicoradiomics model. Five-fold cross-validation was used to validate the three models. Discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility were used to evaluate the performance. Net reclassification improvement (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) were used to compare the prediction accuracy between models. Results The clinicoradiologic model contained alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)_lg10, radiological capsule enhancement, enhancement pattern and arterial peritumoral enhancement, which were independent risk factors of MVI. There were 18 radiomics features related to MVI constructed the radiomics model. The mean area under the receiver operating curve (AUC) of clinicoradiologic, radiomics and clinicoradiomics model were 0.849, 0.925 and 0.950 in the training cohort and 0.846, 0.907 and 0.933 in the validation cohort, respectively. The three models' calibration curves fitted well, and decision curve analysis (DCA) confirmed the clinical usefulness. Compared with the clinicoradiologic model, the NRI of radiomics and clinicoradiomics model increased significantly by 0.575 and 0.825, respectively, and the IDI increased significantly by 0.280 and 0.398, respectively. Conclusions Radiomics of preoperative multi-sequence MRI can improve the predictive performance of MVI in HCC.

Abstract
With the advancement of artificial intelligence, CNNs have been successfully introduced into the discipline of medical data analyzing. Clinically, automatic pulmonary nodules detection remains an intractable issue since those nodules existing in the lung parenchyma or on the chest wall are tough to be visually distinguished from shadows, background noises, blood vessels, and bones. Thus, when making medical diagnosis, clinical doctors need to first pay attention to the intensity cue and contour characteristic of pulmonary nodules, so as to locate the specific spatial locations of nodules. To automate the detection process, we propose an efficient architecture of multi-task and dual-branch 3D convolution neural networks, called DBPNDNet, for automatic pulmonary nodule detection and segmentation. Among the dual-branch structure, one branch is designed for candidate region extraction of pulmonary nodule detection, while the other incorporated branch is exploited for lesion region semantic segmentation of pulmonary nodules. In addition, we develop a 3D attention weighted feature fusion module according to the doctor's diagnosis perspective, so that the captured information obtained by the designed segmentation branch can further promote the effect of the adopted detection branch mutually. The experiment has been implemented and assessed on the commonly used dataset for medical image analysis to evaluate our designed framework. On average, our framework achieved a sensitivity of 91.33% false positives per CT scan and reached 97.14% sensitivity with 8 FPs per scan. The results of the experiments indicate that our framework outperforms other mainstream approaches.

Abstract
Metformin exerts a good efficacy for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) treatment by regulating gluconeogenesis and insulin resistance, while no consensus about its preventive effect on GDM is reached yet. Thus, this meta-analysis aimed to comprehensively investigate the prophylactic administration of metformin in pregnant women at high risk of GDM. Databases (EMBASE, PubMed, Cochrane, CNKI, Wanfang, CQVIP) were searched to screen papers concerning the GDM prevention using metformin in women at high risk of GDM (polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), obese, and pregestational insulin resistance patients) until January 2023. Our study showed that five cohort studies and fifteen randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving 3911 women were included. Pooled analysis showed that prophylactic metformin treatment (vs. control treatment) greatly reduced GDM rate (relative risk (RR) = 0.59, 95% confidence intervals (CI): 0.43-0.80). Subgroup analyses also revealed that prophylactic metformin treatment (vs. control treatment) decreased the GDM rate in the following patients' types: (1) in Asians (RR = 0.31, 95% CI: 0.23-0.41), (2) in PCOS patients (RR = 0.42, 95% CI: 0.26-0.68), and (3) in patients receiving high dose of metformin (mean dose > 1000 mg) (RR = 0.59, 95% CI: 0.42-0.83). Concerning the quality of involved studies, the overall risk of bias was low. Egger's test implied that no publication bias existed in the findings. Moreover, sensitivity analysis suggested the pleasing robustness of the results. In conclusion, prophylactic metformin reduces GDM incidence in high-risk pregnant women, indicating its early-application benefits.

Abstract
Fig wasps (Agaonidae; Hymenoptera) are the only pollinating insects of fig trees (Ficus; Moraceae), forming the most closely and highly specific mutualism with the host. We used transcriptome sequences of 25 fig wasps from six genera to explore the evolution of key molecular components of fig wasp chemosensory genes: odorant-binding proteins (OBPs) and chemosensory proteins (CSPs). We identified a total 321 OBPs and 240 CSPs, with each species recording from 6 to 27 OBP genes and 6-19 CSP genes. 318 OBP genes are clustered into 17 orthologous groups and can be divided into two groups: PBP sensitive to pheromone and GOBP sensitive to general odor molecules, such as alcohols, esters, acids, ketones, and terpenoids. 240 CSP genes are clustered into 12 orthologous groups, which can be divided into three major groups and have functions, such as olfactory, tissue formation and/or regeneration, developmental, and some specific and unknown function. The gene sequences of most orthologous groups vary greatly among species and are consistent with the phylogenetic relationships between fig wasps. Strong purifying selection of both OBP and CSP genes was detected, as shown by low ω values. A positive selection was detected in one locus in CSP1. In conclusion, the evolution of chemosensory proteins OBPs and CSPs in fig wasps is relatively conservative, and they play an indispensable role in the life activities of fig wasps. Our results provide a starting point for understanding the molecular basis of the chemosensory systems of fig wasps.

Abstract
Postdeposition halide exchange has been a popular strategy for tuning the emission wavelength of metal halide perovskites and is particularly attractive in achieving deep-blue perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs), where the quality of the emissive layer is largely limited by the low solubility of chlorides in perovskite precursor solution. In this work, the halide exchange strategy is examined for deep-blue PeLEDs, with a focus on understanding the role of the organic cations of the halide salt (i.e., the chloride source for ion exchange) in modifying the properties of the perovskite films and consequently the PeLED performances. By comparatively investigating the treatment effects of two model systems, namely phenethylammonium chloride and 2,2-diphenylethylammonium chloride (DPEACl), it is found that although the two chlorides produce highly similar photoluminescence properties of the perovskite films, they create different landscapes for current flow in the PeLEDs. In particular, the bulky branch-structured DPEA cations exhibit minimal disturbance to the perovskite grains while providing highly effective inter-grain void filling and thus leakage current blocking, leading to 3D perovskite-based PeLEDs with a record high peak external quantum efficiency of 6.4% at 462 nm. The study highlights the importance of organic cation selection in the halide exchange processes for PeLEDs.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Xiao-Ai Jie-Du decoction (XAJDD) has been used in clinical practice to treat diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL); its prescriptions vary based on the pathogenesis of patients. AIM OF THE STUDY We aimed to determine the core formula of XAJDD and investigate its mechanism of action against DLBCL. MATERIALS AND METHODS Apriori data mining of 187 clinical cases (including 421 Traditional Chinese Medicines, TCMs) was conducted to retrieve the core formula of XAJDD. Comprehensive in silico modeling was used to identify potential active components and corresponding targets. The potential targets of 16 compounds were identified based on network pharmacology using in silico modeling. Thereafter, experimental determination of the active compounds and their mechanism of action in treating DLBCL was performed using different assays (including CCK-8, Annexin V-FITC/PI double-staining, Western blot, and flow cytometry assays). RESULTS The core formula of XAJDD included six herbs: Astragalus mongholicus Bunge (Huangqi, family: Fabaceae), Scutellaria barbata D. Don (Banzhilian, family: Lamiaceae), Prunella vulgaris L. (Xiakucao, family: Lamiaceae), Smilax glabra Roxb. (Tufuling, family Smilacaceae) and Fritillaria thunbergii Miq. (Dabei, family: Liliaceae), and Curcuma zanthorrhiza Roxb. (Ezhu, family: Zingiberaceae); Databases including 62 druggable compounds and 38 DLBCL-related structural targets were constructed; ∼0.3 million data points produced by computational modeling based on potential compounds and targets six components from XAJDD, including astibin, folic acid, baicalin, kaempferol, quercetin, and luteolin, significantly inhibited DLBCL cell proliferation, induced apoptosis, and suppressed the expression of key oncogenes. CONCLUSION This study provides an integrated strategy for determining the core formula of XAJDD and reveals the molecular mechanisms underlying the treatment of DLBCL, which were consistent with the principle of "monarch (Jun), minister (Chen), adjunctive (Zuo), and guide (Shi)", confirming that XAJDD may serve as a promising natural therapeutic agent against DLBCL.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate the role and molecular mechanism of anthocyanin in improving liver fibrosis through ferroptosis, providing a basis for drug development and targeted therapy. METHOD In this study, a mouse model of liver fibrosis was established using CCl4, and the anthocyanin treatment groups were administered 100 mg/kg anthocyanin daily via gavage. Furthermore, real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR), Western blotting (WB), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay were employed to assess liver fibrosis indicators and liver injury markers. Histopathological methods were utilized to confirm the morphology of liver injury in different treatment groups. The effects of anthocyanins on ferroptosis markers, NCOA4 and FTH1 expression, were examined through qRT-PCR, WB, and Co-IP. Confocal microscopy was used to validate the co-localization of ferritin and lysosomes. A differential expression model of TRIM7 was constructed to verify its impact on the progression of liver fibrosis. RESULTS The present study demonstrates the hepatoprotective effects of anthocyanins in liver fibrosis, highlighting their ability to enhance HSC ferroptosis and regulate ferritin autophagy. Moreover, TRIM7 is identified as a key mediator of anthocyanin-induced regulation of HSC activation for liver fibrosis treatment through modulation of ferroautophagy. Mechanistic investigations further reveal that TRIM7 exerts its influence on the process of ferroautophagy by controlling NCOA4 ubiquitination. CONCLUSION Our study discovered that anthocyanins could improve liver fibrosis by regulating NCOA4 ubiquitination through TRIM7, thereby affecting HSC ferroptosis levels.

Abstract
In the past 20 years, near infrared spectrum technology has been widely used in human body monitoring due to its non-invasive and real-time characteristics. Oxygen, as the main metabolic substance of the human body, is consumed the most in brain tissue. In order to prevent complications caused by a decrease in brain tissue oxygen during treatment, the patient's brain tissue blood oxygen saturation needs to be monitored in real time. Currently, most of the clinically used non-invasive cerebral blood oxygen detection equipments use dual wavelengths. Other substances on the detection path will cause errors in the measurement results. Therefore, this article proposes a three-wavelength method based on the basic principle of non-invasive monitoring of cerebral blood oxygen using near-infrared spectrum. The brain tissue oxygen saturation monitoring method of detecting light sources was initially verified through the built system, laying the foundation for subsequent system engineering.

Abstract
Imatinib is the current gold standard for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). However, the primary and acquired drug resistance seriously limits the efficacy. To identify novel therapeutic target in Imatinib-resistant CML is of crucial clinical significance. CircRNAs have been demonstrated the essential regulatory roles in the progression and drug resistance of cancers. In this study, we identified a novel circRNA (circ_SIRT1), derived from the SIRT1, which is up-regulated in CML. The high expression of circ_SIRT1 is correlated with drug resistance in CML. Knockdown of circ_SIRT1 regulated K562/R cells viability, invasion and apoptosis. Besides, the inhibition of circ_SIRT1 attenuated autophagy level and reduced IC50 to Imatinib of K562/R cells. Mechanistically, circ_SIRT1 directly binds to the transcription factor Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 4A3(EIF4A3) and regulated EIF4A3-mediated transcription of Autophagy Related 12 (ATG12), thereby affecting Imatinib resistance and autophagy level. Overexpression of ATG12 reversed the regulative effects induced by knockdown of circ_SIRT1. Taken together, our findings revealed circ_SIRT1 acted as a potential tumor regulator in CML and unveiled the underlying mechanism on regulating Imatinib resistance. circ_SIRT1 may serve as a novel therapeutic target and provide crucial clinical implications for Imatinib-resistant CML treatment.

Abstract
Our study focused on evaluating the effect of three common vasoactive drugs on the prognosis of elderly patients with sepsis and pre-existing heart failure. The Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care III database, Version 1.4, was used. Our study included critically ill older patients (aged ≥ 65 years) with sepsis and heart failure treated with vasoactive drugs. Patients were divided into norepinephrine group, norepinephrine combined with vasopressin group, and dopamine group. The baseline characteristics, primary outcome, and secondary outcome measures were compared among the three groups. In total, 1357 elderly patients were included (766 in norepinephrine group, 250 in norepinephrine combined with vasopressin group, and 341 in dopamine group). After propensity score matching, statistically significant differences in 28-d and 90-d mortality (P = 0.046, P = 0.031) were observed; meanwhile, there was a significant difference in the incidence of mechanical ventilation, AKI, and malignant arrhythmias. Cox regression analysis revealed that norepinephrine combined with vasopressin decreased 5-year survival statistically(P = 0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis indicated dopamine as an independent risk factor in reducing ICU and hospital length of stay (P = 0.001, P = 0.017). Logistic regression analysis showed dopamine was an independent risk factor for new-onset arrhythmias (P < 0.001), while norepinephrine combined with vasopressin was an independent risk factor for new-onset malignant arrhythmias (P < 0.001). Norepinephrine in combination with vasopressin decreased survival and increased the incidence of malignant arrhythmias in elderly sepsis patients with pre-existing heart failure. Dopamine alone reduces ICU and hospital length of stay but increases the new-onset arrhythmias.

Abstract
In this work, an integrated strategy with excellent accuracy and high throughput is proposed for the precise indication of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in nonsmall cell lung cancer diseases. Two types of point mutations (L858R and T790M) and the corresponding wild types could be identified together in a single high-performance liquid chromatographic run. Signal amplification was achieved through a series of enzyme ligation, primer extension, and enzyme cleavage strategies, and a large number of DNA probes with different fluorescence signals were finally generated. The factors affecting the spatiotemporal separation efficiency of four DNA probes were systematically investigated. The limits of detection of wild types (WTs) or mutant types (MTs) abbreviated as L858R-MT, L858R-WT, T790M-MT, and T790M-WT were 26, 24, 19, and 22 aM, respectively. In addition, the levels of mutant types and wild types in the serum of 40 nonsmall cell lung cancer patients at different stages were detected using the method, and the correlation between the mutation ratios and cancer stages was preliminarily verified. The proposed highly selective and sensitive method may serve as an alternative approach for early diagnosis and staging of nonsmall cell lung cancer.

Abstract
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a widely used imaging modality in clinics for medical disease diagnosis, staging, and follow-up. Deep learning has been extensively used to accelerate k-space data acquisition, enhance MR image reconstruction, and automate tissue segmentation. However, these three tasks are usually treated as independent tasks and optimized for evaluation by radiologists, thus ignoring the strong dependencies among them; this may be suboptimal for downstream intelligent processing. Here, we present a novel paradigm, full-stack learning (FSL), which can simultaneously solve these three tasks by considering the overall imaging process and leverage the strong dependence among them to further improve each task, significantly boosting the efficiency and efficacy of practical MRI workflows. Experimental results obtained on multiple open MR datasets validate the superiority of FSL over existing state-of-the-art methods on each task. FSL has great potential to optimize the practical workflow of MRI for medical diagnosis and radiotherapy.
