Abstract
Biodegradable food packaging films with good antimicrobial properties are highly sought after for prolonging the shelf-life of fruits and vegetables whilst minimizing waste streams originating from the food sector. In this work, a series of PBAT/PLA food packaging films containing sodium dehydroacetate-loaded diatomite (SD/D) as an antimicrobial agent were fabricated. Structural analyses showed that the sodium dehydroacetate was incorporated into the pores of the diatomite. A uniform dispersion of SD/D in the composite films effectively enhanced water and gas permeability, whilst also giving the films good mechanical properties. The slow release of SD endowed the composite films with long-acting antibacterial ability (>90 % bacteriostasis rate for E. coli and >85 % bacteriostasis rate for S. aureus). The composite films were able to effectively maintain the quality of banana fruits during storage at room temperature, encouraging their use in food applications where non-biodegradable petrochemical-derived packaging films have traditionally been used.

Abstract
In this study, a modified version of the endoscopic carpal tunnel release surgery was introduced, which is safe and easy to handle. Moreover, the requirement for surgical instruments is low. Six patients with carpal tunnel syndrome underwent the modified procedure. No neurovascular injuries occurred in these patients. According to the one-year follow-up data, all the patients were satisfied with the outcomes. The modified endoscopic carpal tunnel release technique has been proven to be safe with satisfactory outcomes in six patients in this study.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The latest information regarding the awareness of atrial fibrillation (AF) remains limited in China. OBJECTIVES The present study aimed to understand the variation and disparity in awareness of AF in China. METHODS The cross-sectional study used data from the 2020 nationwide epidemiology survey on AF among adults aged 18 years or older in mainland China to assess the prevalence of AF awareness. The awareness of AF diagnostic methods and outcomes was also assessed using an interviewer-administered questionnaire. RESULTS Of the 114,039 adults responding to the survey, 1463 (age-standardized prevalence, 55.3% (95% confidence interval [CI], 47.7-62.9%) and 10,202 (8.2%, 95%CI 5.4-10.9%) were aware of AF in participants with and without AF, respectively. Of these, 36.4% (95%CI 30.0-42.9%) and 6.3% (95%CI 3.6-9.1%) considered electrocardiogram as a method of diagnosing AF, and 30.0% (95% CI 3.2-8.2%) and 5.2% (95%CI 2.7-7.6%) considered stroke as an outcome of AF. The proportion of participants who being aware of AF varied significantly across sociodemographic and cardiovascular disease subgroups, and was almost consistently lower in rural areas than those in urban areas. Overall, lack of AF awareness was associated with rural areas, geographical region, lower education levels, and without history and had no risk factors of cardiovascular disease. CONCLUSIONS Nearly half of adults with AF, and >90% non-AF population are unaware of AF in China, with significant variation and disparity. Focused public health initiatives are needed to improve awareness and knowledge of AF among high-risk populations.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE In China, the Chinese patent drug Realgar-Indigo naturalis Formula (RIF) is utilized for the therapy of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). Comprising four traditional Chinese herb-Realgar, Indigo naturalis, Salvia miltiorrhiza, and Pseudostellaria heterophylla-it notably includes tetra-arsenic tetra-sulfide, indirubin, tanshinone IIa, and total saponins of Radix Pseudostellariae as its primary active components. Due to its arsenic content, RIF distinctly contributes to the therapy for APL. However, the challenge of arsenic resistance in APL patients complicates the clinical use of arsenic agents. Interestingly, RIF demonstrates a high remission rate in APL patients, suggesting that its efficacy is not significantly compromised by arsenic resistance. Yet, the current state of research on RIF's ability to reverse arsenic resistance remains unclear. AIM OF THE STUDY To investigate the mechanism of different combinations of the compound of RIF in reversing arsenic resistance in APL. MATERIALS AND METHODS The present study utilized the arsenic-resistant HL60-PMLA216V-RARα cell line to investigate the effects of various RIF compounds, namely tetra-arsenic tetra-sulfide (A), indirubin (I), tanshinone IIa (T), and total saponins of Radix Pseudostellariae (S). The assessment of cell viability, observation of cell morphology, and evaluation of cell apoptosis were performed. Furthermore, the mitochondrial membrane potential, changes in the levels of PMLA216V-RARα, apoptosis-related factors, and the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway were examined, along with autophagy in all experimental groups. Meanwhile, we observed the changes about autophagy after blocking the PI3K or mTOR pathway. RESULTS Tanshinone IIa, indirubin and total saponins of Radix Pseudostellariae could enhance the effect of tetra-arsenic tetra-sulfide down-regulating PMLA216V-RARα, and the mechanism was suggested to be related to inhibiting mTOR pathway to activate autophagy. CONCLUSIONS We illustrated that the synergistic effect of different compound combinations of RIF can regulate autophagy through the mTOR pathway, enhance cell apoptosis, and degrade arsenic-resistant PMLA216V-RARα.

Abstract
The gut microbiota significantly influences host physiology and provides essential ecosystem services. While diet can affect the composition of the gut microbiota, the gut microbiota can also help the host adapt to specific dietary habits. The carrion crow ( Corvus corone), an urban facultative scavenger bird, hosts an abundance of pathogens due to its scavenging behavior. Despite this, carrion crows infrequently exhibit illness, a phenomenon related to their unique physiological adaptability. At present, however, the role of the gut microbiota remains incompletely understood. In this study, we performed a comparative analysis using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing technology to assess colonic content in carrion crows and 16 other bird species with different diets in Beijing, China. Our findings revealed that the dominant gut microbiota in carrion crows was primarily composed of Proteobacteria (75.51%) and Firmicutes (22.37%). Significant differences were observed in the relative abundance of Enterococcus faecalis among groups, highlighting its potential as a biomarker of facultative scavenging behavior in carrion crows. Subsequently, E. faecalis isolated from carrion crows was transplanted into model mice to explore the protective effects of this bacterial community against Salmonella enterica infection. Results showed that E. faecalis down-regulated the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interferon gamma (IFN-γ), and interleukin 6 (IL-6), prevented S. enterica colonization, and regulated the composition of gut microbiota in mice, thereby modulating the host's immune regulatory capacity. Therefore, E. faecalis exerts immunoregulatory and anti-pathogenic functions in carrion crows engaged in scavenging behavior, offering a representative case of how the gut microbiota contributes to the protection of hosts with specialized diets.

Abstract
Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) exhibit a metabolic preference for glycolysis over oxidative phosphorylation to meet their substantial adenosine triphosphate (ATP) demands during self-renewal. This metabolic choice inherently maintains low mitochondrial activity and minimal reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Nonetheless, the intricate molecular mechanisms governing the restraint of ROS production and the mitigation of cellular damage remain incompletely elucidated. In this study, we reveal the pivotal role of RNA-binding motif protein 46 (RBM46) in ESCs, acting as a direct post transcriptional regulator of ROS levels by modulating BCL2/adenovirus E1B 19 kDa protein-interacting protein 3 (Bnip3) mRNA expression. Rbm46 knockout lead to diminished mitochondrial autophagy, culminating in elevated ROS within ESCs, disrupting the delicate balance required for healthy self-renewal. These findings provide insights into a novel mechanism governing ROS regulation in ESCs.

Abstract
BACKGROUNDS Cancer is a highly fatal disease which is close relative of miRNA aberrant expression and apoptosis disorders. Elucidation of the therapeutic efficacy through investigating the changes in miRNA and apoptosis holds immense importance in advancing the development of miRNA-based precision therapy. However, it remains a challenge as how to visually evaluate the efficacy during protocol optimization of miRNA-based anticancer drugs at the cellular level. Therefore, exploring effective and noninvasive methods for real-time monitoring of therapeutic efficacy in living cells is of great significance. RESULTS Herein, we reported a novel fluorescent nanoprobe COF-H1/H2-Peptide for visually evaluating drug efficacy in living cells through amplified imaging of low-abundant miRNA-221 with catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA) circle amplification, as well as simultaneous caspase-3 imaging. With strong stability and good biocompatibility, this newly fabricated amplified nanoprobe showed high sensitivity and specificity for the detection of miRNA-221 and caspase-3, and the limit of detection (LOD) of miRNA-221 was as low as 2.79 pM. The fluorescent imaging results showed that this amplified nanoprobe could not only detect caspase-3 in living cells, but also effectively detect low levels of miRNA-221 with increasing anticancer drug concentration and treatment time. The smart nanoprobe had effective performance for optimizing miRNA-based drug treatment schedules by dual-color fluorescence imaging. SIGNIFICANCE This nanoprobe combined CHA amplified detection of intracellular miRNA-221 and synchronous apoptosis imaging, with excellent sensitivity for the detection of cellular low-level miRNA, enabling the realization of real-time assessment of the efficacy of miRNA-based therapy in living cells. This work presents a promising approach for revealing the regulatory mechanisms between miRNAs and apoptosis in cancer occurrence, development, and treatment.

Abstract
An undisclosed polysaccharide, BCP80-2, was isolated from Belamcanda chinensis (L.) DC. Structural investigation revealed that BCP80-2 consists of ten monosaccharide residues including t-α-Araf-(1→, →3,5)-α-Araf-(1→, →5)-α-Araf-(1→, →4)-β-Xylp-(1→, →3)-α-Rhap-(1→, →4)-β-Manp-(1→, t-β-Glcp-(1→, →6)-α-Glcp-(1→, t-β-Galp-(1→, and→3)-α-Galp-(1→. In vivo activity assays showed that BCP80-2 significantly suppressed neoplasmic growth, metastasis, and angiogenesis in zebrafish. Mechanistic studies have shown that BCP80-2 inhibited cell migration of HepG2 cells by suppressing the FAK signaling pathway. Moreover, BCP80-2 also activated immunomodulation and upregulated the secretion of co-stimulatory molecules CD40, CD86, CD80, and MHC-II. In conclusion, BCP80-2 inhibited tumor progression by targeting the FAK signaling pathway and activating CD40-induced adaptive immunity.

Abstract
Gastric carcinoma (GC) is a malignant tumor that is detrimental to human health. Transfer RNA-derived small RNAs are a newly identified class of noncoding small RNAs with specific biological functions that are aberrantly expressed in cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential of hsa_tsr013526 as a biomarker for GC. Quantitative real-time fluorescence polymerase chain reaction was used to detect the expression level of hsa_tsr013526. The molecular characteristics of hsa_tsr013526 were verified by agarose gel electrophoresis, Sanger sequencing, and separation of nuclear and cytoplasmic RNA fractions. By testing the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, the diagnostic efficiency of GC using hsa_tsr013526 was determined. Finally, we predicted the downstream of hsa_tsr013526 using functional assays and bioinformatics analysis. Serum expression of hsa_tsr013526 was higher in GC patients than in healthy donors. Serum expression showed differential changes in GC patients, gastritis patients, and healthy donors. Chi-squared tests showed that high expression of hsa_tsr013526 was significantly correlated with T stage, lymphatic metastasis, and tumor node metastasis stage. ROC curve analysis indicated that GC patients could be discriminated from healthy donors or gastritis patients based on their serum levels of hsa_tsr013526. Furthermore, hsa_tsr013526 expression was significantly reduced in postoperative GC patients (p = .0016). High expression of hsa_tsr013526 promotes gastric cancer cell proliferation, invasion, and migration. Serum hsa_tsr013526 was stable and specific, and could be used for dynamic monitoring of GC patients. Therefore, hsa_tsr013526 may be a new biomarker for the diagnosis and postoperative monitoring of GC patients.

Abstract
Risk-taking is a common, complex, and multidimensional behavior construct that has significant implications for human health and well-being. Previous research has identified the neural mechanisms underlying risk-taking behavior in both adolescents and adults, yet the differences between adolescents' and adults' risk-taking in the brain remain elusive. This study firstly employs a comprehensive meta-analysis approach that includes 73 adult and 20 adolescent whole-brain experiments, incorporating observations from 1986 adults and 789 adolescents obtained from online databases, including Web of Science, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar and Neurosynth. It then combines functional decoding methods to identify common and distinct brain regions and corresponding psychological processes associated with risk-taking behavior in these two cohorts. The results indicated that the neural bases underlying risk-taking behavior in both age groups are situated within the cognitive control, reward, and sensory networks. Subsequent contrast analysis revealed that adolescents and adults risk-taking engaged frontal pole within the fronto-parietal control network (FPN), but the former recruited more ventrolateral area and the latter recruited more dorsolateral area. Moreover, adolescents' risk-taking evoked brain area activity within the ventral attention network (VAN) and the default mode network (DMN) compared with adults, consistent with the functional decoding analyses. These findings provide new insights into the similarities and disparities of risk-taking neural substrates underlying different age cohorts, supporting future neuroimaging research on the dynamic changes of risk-taking.

Abstract
Six undescribed triterpenoid saponins, namely aescuchinosides A-F, along with seven known triterpenoid saponins, were isolated from the seeds of Aesculus chinensis. Barrigenol-like triterpenoids (BATs) constitute these saponins. Protoaescigenin serves as their aglycone, with various oxygen-containing groups, including acetyl, isobutyryl, tigloyl, and angeloyl groups situated at C-21, C-22, and C-28. Various techniques, including 1D and 2D-NMR spectroscopy, high-resolution mass spectrometry, and acid hydrolysis, were employed to determine the structures of these compounds. The antihyperglycemic effects of the isolated compounds were examined in insulin -resistant HepG2 cells induced by palmitic acid treatment. At a concentration of 6 μM, aesculinoside F exhibited a significant increase in glucose consumption. In addition, aesculinoside F demonstrated the potential to improve insulin resistant by upregulating the PI3K/AKT pathway. These results indicate that the seeds of A.chinensis hold promising potential for preventing insulin resistant related disease.

Abstract
This study utilized the freeze-drying method to create a chitosan (CS) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) sponge. To enhance its antibacterial properties, curcumin and nano silver (Cur@Ag) were added for synergistic antibacterial. After adding curcumin and nano silver, the mechanical properties of the composite sponge dressing (CS-PVA-Cur@Ag) were improved. The porosity of the composite sponge dressing was closed to 80%, which was helpful for drug release, and it had good water absorption and water retention rate. The nano silver diameter was 50-80 nm, which was optimal for killing bacteria. Antibacterial tests usedEscherichia coliandStaphylococcus aureusdemonstrated that little nano silver was required to eliminate bacteria. Finally, in the rat full-thickness skin wound model, the composite sponge dressing can promote wound healing in a short time. In summary, CS-PVA-Cur@Ag wound dressing could protect from bacterial infection and accelerate wound healing. Thus, it had high potential application value for wound dressing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) exhibit a distinct gut microbiota profile; however, the causal association between gut microbiota, associated metabolites, and PAH remains elusive. We aimed to investigate this causal association and to explore whether dietary patterns play a role in its regulation. METHODS Summary statistics of gut microbiota, associated metabolites, diet, and PAH were obtained from genome-wide association studies. The inverse variance weighted method was primarily used to measure the causal effect, with sensitivity analyses using the weighted median, weighted mode, simple mode, MR pleiotropy residual sum and outlier (MR-PRESSO), and MR-Egger methods. A reverse Mendelian randomisation analysis was also performed. RESULTS Alistipes (odds ratio [OR] = 2.269, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.100-4.679, P = 0.027) and Victivallis (OR = 1.558, 95% CI 1.019-2.380, P = 0.040) were associated with an increased risk of PAH, while Coprobacter (OR = 0.585, 95% CI 0.358-0.956, P = 0.032), Erysipelotrichaceae (UCG003) (OR = 0.494, 95% CI 0.245-0.996, P = 0.049), Lachnospiraceae (UCG008) (OR = 0.596, 95% CI 0.367-0.968, P = 0.036), and Ruminococcaceae (UCG005) (OR = 0.472, 95% CI 0.231-0.962, P = 0.039) protected against PAH. No associations were observed between PAH and gut microbiota-derived metabolites (trimethylamine N-oxide [TMAO] and its precursors betaine, carnitine, and choline), short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), or diet. Although inverse variance-weighted analysis demonstrated that elevated choline levels were correlated with an increased risk of PAH, the results were not consistent with the sensitivity analysis. Therefore, the association was considered insignificant. Reverse Mendelian randomisation analysis demonstrated that PAH had no causal impact on gut microbiota-derived metabolites but could contribute to increased the levels of Butyricicoccus and Holdemania, while decreasing the levels of Clostridium innocuum, Defluviitaleaceae UCG011, Eisenbergiella, and Ruminiclostridium 5. CONCLUSIONS Gut microbiota were discovered suggestive evidence of the impacts of genetically predicted abundancy of certain microbial genera on PAH. Results of our study point that the production of SCFAs or TMAO does not mediate this association, which remains to be explained mechanistically.

Abstract
Splenectomy is an effective treatment for immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). The effect of COVID-19 vaccination on splenectomized patients with ITP during the COVID-19 pandemic has not been reported. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of COVID-19 vaccination on clinical outcomes in these patients. This was a longitudinal study of splenectomized patients with ITP. A total of 191 splenectomized patients were included in this study. After a median follow-up of 114 months, 146 (76.4%) patients had a sustained response to splenectomy. During COVID-19 infection, vaccinated patients showed a lower risk of severe infections (odds ratio [OR], 0.13; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.05-0.36; p < 0.001), hospitalization (OR, 0.13; 95% CI, 0.04-0.48; p = 0.002), and ITP exacerbation (OR, 0.16; 95% CI, 0.04-0.67; p = 0.012). These findings indicate that COVID-19 vaccination plays a protective role in splenectomized patients with ITP.

Abstract
Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a powerful tool for highly sensitive qualitative and quantitative analyses of trace targets. However, sensitive SERS detection can only be facilitated with a suitable sample pretreatment in fields related to trace amounts for food safety and clinical diagnosis. Currently, the sample pretreatment for SERS detection is normally borrowed and improved from the ones in the lab, which yields a high recovery but is tedious and time-consuming. Rapid detection of trace targets in a complex environment is still a considerable issue for SERS detection. Herein, we proposed a liquid-liquid extraction method coupled with a back-extraction method for sample pretreatment based on the pH-sensitive reversible phase transition of the weak organic acids and bases, where the lowest detectable concentrations were identical before and after the pretreatment process. The sensitive (μg L-1 level) and rapid (within 5 min) SERS detection of either koumine, a weak base, or celastrol, a weak acid, was demonstrated in different drinking water samples and beverages. Furthermore, target generality was demonstrated for a variety of weak acids and bases (2 < pKa < 12), and the hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity of the target determines the pretreatment efficiency. Therefore, the LLE-BE coupled SERS was developed as an easy, rapid, and low-cost tool for the trace detection of the two types of targets in simple matrices, which paved the way toward trace targets in complex matrices.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Metadherin (MTDH) and ubiquitin specific protease 7 (USP7) have been identified to involve in the tumorigenesis of cervical cancer (CC). USP7 is one of the deubiquitinating enzymes. Here, this study aimed to explore whether USP7 affected CC progression via interacting with MTDH and regulating its stability via deubiquitination. METHODS qRT-PCR and western blotting assays detected the levels of genes and proteins. Functional analysis was conducted using 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU), flow cytometry, transwell, and tube formation assays, respectively. Proteins between USP7 and MTDH were identified by co-immunoprecipitation assay. A mouse xenograft model was established for in vivo analysis. RESULTS MTDH was highly expressed in CC tissues and cells, silencing of MTDH suppressed CC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, angiogenesis, and macrophage M2 polarization. Mechanistically, USP7 directly bound to MTDH, and maintained its stability by removing ubiquitination on MTDH. CC tissues and cells showed high USP7 expression, and USP7 knockdown also inhibited CC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, angiogenesis and macrophage M2 polarization, and these effects mediated by USP7 knockdown were reversed by MTDH overexpression. Moreover, USP7 knockdown impeded CC growth in vivo by regulating MTDH. CONCLUSION Collectively, USP7 promoted CC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, angiogenesis, and macrophage M2 polarization in vitro, as well as tumor growth in vivo by regulating MTDH.

Abstract
In this study, the distribution of oxygen-containing functional groups on graphene with vacancies and topological defects was systematically investigated using advanced computational methods and the structure models for multi-defect graphene oxides (GOs) were proposed. All potential adsorption sites were considered through an automated structure generation program to identify energetically favorable structures. Unlike the pristine graphene surface where oxygen-containing functional groups always aggregate with each other, we observed a tendency for them to preferentially adsorb near defects. Furthermore, they may also be distributed on the same side or both sides of the defective graphene. These multi-defect GOs can exhibit either metallic or semiconducting properties. Notably, upon adsorbing the same oxygen-containing functional groups onto the surface of defective graphene, their electronic characteristics become homogeneous. The coexistence of vacancy/topological defects and oxygen-containing functional groups within the graphene lattice introduces intriguing mechanical anisotropic properties to graphene, including the uncommon negative Poisson's ratio. Additionally, these materials exhibit anisotropic optical behavior, displaying heightened absorption within the infrared and visible regions compared to pristine graphene. Finally, it is found that Li atoms are adsorbed stably on the surfaces of multi-defect GOs via the formation of LinO/LimOH clusters. The research findings presented in this paper, encompassing the development of structural models for multi-defect GOs, could provide crucial insights into the properties and potential applications of graphene oxides.

Abstract
AIM This study assessed the efficacy and safety of co-administering retagliptin and henagliflozin versus individual agents at corresponding doses in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who were inadequately controlled with metformin. METHODS This multicentre, phase 3 trial consisted of a 24-week, randomized, double-blind, active-controlled period. Patients with glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels between 7.5% and 10.5% were randomized to receive once-daily retagliptin 100 mg (R100; n = 155), henagliflozin 5 mg (H5; n = 156), henagliflozin 10 mg (H10; n = 156), co-administered R100/H5 (n = 155), or R100/H10 (n = 156). The primary endpoint was the change in HbA1c from baseline to week 24. RESULTS Based on the primary estimand, the least squares mean reductions in HbA1c at week 24 were significantly greater in the R100/H5 (-1.51%) and R100/H10 (-1.54%) groups compared with those receiving the corresponding doses of individual agents (-0.98% for R100, -0.86% for H5 and -0.95% for H10, respectively; p < .0001 for all pairwise comparisons). Achievement of HbA1c <7.0% at week 24 was observed in 27.1% of patients in the R100 group, 21.2% in the H5 group, 24.4% in the H10 group, 57.4% in the R100/H5 group and 56.4% in the R100/H10 group. Reductions in fasting plasma glucose and 2-h postprandial glucose were also more pronounced in the co-administration groups compared with the individual agents at corresponding doses. Decreases in body weight and systolic blood pressure were greater in the groups containing henagliflozin than in the R100 group. The incidence rates of adverse events were similar across all treatment groups, with no reported episodes of severe hypoglycaemia. CONCLUSIONS For patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled by metformin monotherapy, the co-administration of retagliptin and henagliflozin yielded more effective glycaemic control through 24 weeks compared with the individual agents at their corresponding doses.

Abstract
Objective Diabetic retinopathy (DR) can cause permanent blindness with unstated pathogenesis. We aim to find novel biomarkers and explore the mechanism of apoptotic protease activating factor 1 (APAF1) in DR. Methods Differential expression genes (DEGs) were screened based on GSE60436 dataset to find hub genes involved in pyroptosis after comprehensive bioinformatics analysis. DR mice model was constructed by streptozotocin injection. The pathological structure of retina was observed using hematoxylin-eosin staining. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was applied to assess inflammatory factors, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and oxidative stress. The mRNA and protein expression levels were detected using quantitative real-time polymerase-chain reaction and Western blot. Cell counting kit and flow cytometry were employed to detect proliferation and apoptosis in high glucose-induced ARPE-19 cells. Results Total 71 pyroptosis-related DEGs were screened. BIRC2, CXCL8, APAF1, PPARG, TP53, and CYCS were identified as hub genes of DR. APAF1 was selected as a potential regulator of DR, which was up-regulated in DR mice. APAF1 silencing alleviated retinopathy and inhibited pyroptosis in DR mice with decreased levels of inflammatory factors, VEGF, and oxidative stress. Moreover, APAF1 silencing promoted proliferation while inhibiting apoptosis and caspase-3/GSDME-dependent pyroptosis with a decrease in TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-18, and lactate dehydrogenase in high glucose-induced ARPE-19 cells. Additionally, caspase-3 activator reversed the promotion effect on proliferation and inhibitory effect on apoptosis and pyroptosis after APAF1 silencing in high glucose-induced ARPE-19 cells. Conclusion APAF1 is a novel biomarker for DR and APAF1 silencing inhibits the development of DR by suppressing caspase-3/GSDME-dependent pyroptosis.

Abstract
Freezing has been reported to accelerate chemical reactions and thus affect the fate of pollutants in the environment. However, little research has been conducted on the potential effects of freezing on the chlorination process. This study aimed to explore the freezing-enhanced chlorination process by comparing the oxidation of clofibric acid (CA) by chlorine in ice (at -20 °C) to the same reaction in water (at 25 °C). The degradation of CA, which was negligible in water, was significantly accelerated in ice. This acceleration can be attributed to the freeze concentration effect that occurs during freezing, which excludes solutes such as chlorine, CA and protons from the ice crystals, leading to their accumulated concentration in the liquid brine. The increased concentration of chlorine and protons in the liquid brine leads to higher rates of CA oxidation, supporting the freeze concentration effect as the underlying cause for the accelerated chlorination of CA in ice. Moreover, the chlorine/freezing system was also effective in the degradation of other organic pollutants. This highlights the environmental relevance and significance of freezing-enhanced chlorination in cold regions, particularly for the treatment of organic contaminants.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Differentiating pancreatic serous cystadenoma (SCA) from well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (WDNETs) based on histomorphology is critical yet challenging, particularly in small biopsy samples. Our study aimed to examine the expression profile of INSM1 in cytologic and surgical resection specimens from pancreatic SCA to evaluate its potential as a discriminative marker against pancreatic WDNET. METHODS We characterized INSM1 immunohistochemistry in 34 patients with pancreatic SCA, comprising 23 surgical resections and 11 cytology specimens. As a control, we used 28 cytology specimens from pancreatic WDNET. Clinical information was retrieved through a review of electronic medical records. RESULTS All 11 pancreatic SCA cytology specimens and 15 of 23 pancreatic SCA surgical resections exhibited absent INSM1 immunostaining. Each of the remaining eight surgical resection specimens demonstrated 1 % immunoreactivity. In contrast, 27 out of 28 (96 %) pancreatic WDNET cytology specimens were positive for INSM1 immunostaining, with a median immunoreactivity of 90 % and a range of 30-90 %. Overall, INSM1 immunostains perform similarly to chromogranin and synaptophysin in pancreatic SCA. CONCLUSIONS The results indicate that INSM1 immunohistochemistry staining may serve as a useful neuroendocrine marker to differentiate pancreatic SCA from pancreatic WDNET in clinical practice. To our knowledge, this represents the first large-scale study to evaluate INSM1 immunostaining in surgical and cytology specimens from pancreatic SCA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There are a few studies on the effectiveness and safety of intravenous administration of tranexamic acid(TXA) in patients who underwent foot and ankle surgery, especially for preoperative hidden blood loss in patients with freshfoot and ankle fractures. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate whether intravenous administration of different doses of TXA can effectively reduce perioperative blood loss and blood loss before surgery and to determine its safety. METHODS A total of 150 patients with fresh closed foot and ankle fractures from July 2021 to July 2023 were randomly divided into a control group (placebo controlled [PC]), standard-dose group (low-dose group [LD], 1 g/24 h; medium-dose group [MD], 2 g/24 h), and high-dose group (HD, 3 g/24 h; ultrahigh-dose group [UD], 4 g/24 h). After admission, all patients completed hematological examinations as soon as possible and at multiple other time points postsurgery. RESULTS There was a significant difference in the incidence of hidden blood loss before the operation between the TXA group and the control group, and the effect was greater in the overdose groups than in the standard-dose groups. There were significant differences in surgical blood loss (intraoperative and postoperative), postoperative HGB changes, and hidden blood loss among the groups. The TXA groups showed a significant decrease in blood loss compared to that of the control group, and the overdose groups had a more significant effect than the standard-dose groups. A total of 9 patients in the control group had early wound infection or poor healing, while only 1 patient in the other groups had this complication, and the difference among the groups was significant. No patients in any group suffered from late deep wound infection, cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events or symptomatic VTE. CONCLUSION This is the first study on whether TXA can reduce preoperative hidden blood loss in patients with freshfoot and ankle fractures. In our study, on the one hand, intravenous application of TXA after foot and ankle fractures as soon as possible can reduce preoperative blood loss and postoperative blood loss. On the other hand, TXA can also lower wound complications, and over-doses of TXA are more effective than standard doses. Moreover, overdoses of TXA do not increase the incidence of DVT.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Internet addiction has an important influence on the development of physical and mental health of college students. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the current status and the correlation between college students' negative emotion, fatigue level and Internet addiction disorder, and to provide reference for the care and management of college students. METHODS We conducted a questionnaire survey on a cluster sample of college students from October to November 15, 2022. Internet addiction scale, fatigue assessment scale and positive and negative emotion scale were used for survey. Pearson correlation analysis and mediating effect test were performed to analyze the correlation and effects. RESULTS A total of 1546 valid questionnaires were collected. The incidence of internet addiction in college student was 20.38%. The total score of internet addiction was 52.94 ± 12.47, the total fatigue score was 69.27 ± 3.19, the score of positive emotion of college students was 31. 41 ± 5.09, and the negative emotion score was 18.54 ± 5.68. The total score of internet addiction were positively correlated with score of negative emotion (all P < 0. 05). The total score of internet addiction scale of college students were positively correlated and each factor score of with the score of fatigue severity (all P < 0. 05). Fatigue played an intermediary role in the prediction of negative emotion and internet addiction of college students, with an intermediary role of-0.433, accounting for 76.35% of the total effect. CONCLUSION The college students' positive emotion may be strengthened to reduce their fatigue level and negative emotion so as to reduce internet addiction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In cavernous sinus dural arteriovenous fistulas (CS-DAVF), ophthalmological symptoms are usually the main clinical presentation, caused by abnormal drainage of the superior ophthalmic vein (SOV). Early opacification of the SOV during cerebral angiography inevitably signifies the fistula's shunt point at the confluence of the SOV and CS. We aimed to leverage this anatomical feature to achieve precise embolization, thereby enhancing the embolization success rate and preventing CS-related symptoms and complications resulting from overpacking. METHODS This single-center, case series study was conducted between May 2017 and September 2023, and included the largest sample of CS-DAVF patients treated via the transfemoral vein-SOV approach. We retrospectively reviewed the data of 32 CS-DAVF patients with inferior petrosal sinus (IPS) occlusion. RESULTS The study demonstrated an excellent immediate postoperative complete embolization rate (31/32, 97%). Only three patients (3/32, 9%) developed temporary endovascular treatment-related complications. The average operation time was 131.6±61.6 min, with an average of 1.2±1.1 coils and 1.8±1.2 mL Onyx glue used per patient. CS-DAVF-associated ophthalmological symptoms resolved in all patients. We also identified a rare anatomical variation, where 77% of the patients had a facial vein draining into the external jugular vein. CONCLUSIONS Transfemoral vein-SOV embolization should be considered a crucial alternative approach in CS-DAVF patients with occluded IPS and predominantly SOV drainage. This approach showed an excellent immediate postoperative complete embolization rate and satisfactory long-term outcomes along with clinical safety. We therefore strongly advocate for this 'an eye for an eye' treatment strategy.

Abstract
The van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures composed of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) and organic semiconductors demonstrate numerous compelling optoelectronic properties. However, the influence of the vdW epitaxial effect and temperature on the optoelectronic properties and interface exciton dynamics of heterostructures remains unclear. This study systematically investigates the fluorescence properties of TiOPc/WSe2 heterostructure. Comprehensive spectral characterization elucidates that the emission behavior of the TiOPc/WSe2 heterostructure arises from charge/energy transfer at the heterostructure interfaces and the structural ordering of the organic layer on the 2D monolayer WSe2 induced by vdW epitaxy. The interface exciton dynamic features probed by ultrafast transient spectroscopy reveal that the face-to-face molecular stacking configuration of TiOPc exhibits ultrafast exciton dynamics. In particular, we observe picosecond-scale absorption of organic molecular dimer cations, providing direct evidence of interface charge transfer at room temperature. Moreover, energy transfer from the TiOPc to WSe2 may exist based on the tunability in the fluorescence emission of the TiOPc/WSe2 heterostructure as the temperature changes. This study unveils the critical role of vdW epitaxy and temperature in the exciton dynamics of organic/2D TMDs hybrid systems and provides guidance for studying interlayer charge and energy transfer in organic/inorganic heterostructures.

Abstract
PURPOSE Based on the quantitative and qualitative features of CT imaging, a model for predicting the invasiveness of ground-glass nodules (GGNs) was constructed, which could provide a reference value for preoperative planning of GGN patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS Altogether, 702 patients with GGNs (including 748 GGNs) were included in this study. The GGNs operated between September 2020 and July 2022 were classified into the training group (n = 555), and those operated between August 2022 and November 2022 were classified into the validation group (n = 193). Clinical data and the quantitative and qualitative features of CT imaging were harvested from these patients. In the training group, the quantitative and qualitative characteristics in CT imaging of GGNs were analyzed by using performing univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, followed by constructing a nomogram prediction model. The differentiation, calibration, and clinical practicability in both the training and validation groups were assessed by the nomogram models. RESULTS In the training group, multivariate logistic regression analysis disclosed that the maximum diameter (OR = 4.707, 95%CI: 2.06-10.758), consolidation/tumor ratio (CTR) (OR = 1.027, 95%CI: 1.011-1.043), maximum CT value (OR = 1.025, 95%CI: 1.004-1.047), mean CT value (OR = 1.035, 95%CI: 1.008-1.063; P = 0.012), spiculation sign (OR = 2.055, 95%CI: 1.148-3.679), and vascular convergence sign (OR = 2.508, 95%CI: 1.345-4.676) were independent risk parameters for invasive adenocarcinoma. Based on these findings, we established a nomogram model for predicting the invasiveness of GGN, and the AUC was 0.910 (95%CI: 0.885-0.934) and 0.902 (95%CI: 0.859-0.944) in the training group and the validation group, respectively. The internal validation of the Bootstrap method showed an AUC value of 0.905, indicating a good differentiation of the model. Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness of fit test for the training and validation groups indicated that the model had a good fitting effect (P > 0.05). Furthermore, the calibration curve and decision analysis curve of the training and validation groups reflected that the model had a good calibration degree and clinical practicability. CONCLUSION Combined with the quantitative and qualitative features of CT imaging, a nomogram prediction model can be created to forecast the invasiveness of GGNs. This model has good prediction efficacy for the invasiveness of GGNs and can provide help for the clinical management and decision-making of GGNs.

Abstract
The goal of achieving elimination of schistosomiasis across all endemic counties in China by 2030 was proposed in the Outline of the Healthy China 2030 Plan. On June 16, 2023, the Action Plan to Accelerate the Elimination of Schistosomiasis in China (2023-2030) was jointly issued by National Disease Control and Prevention Administration and other 10 ministries, which deployed the targets and key tasks of the national schistosomiasis elimination programme in China. This article describes the progress of the national schistosomiasis control programme, analyzes the opportunities to eliminate schistosomiasis, and proposes targeted recommendations to tackle the challenges of schistosomiasis elimination, so as to accelerate the process towards schistosomiasis elimination and facilitate the building of a healthy China.

Abstract
Background Total cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) burden score is an important predictor of vascular cognitive impairment (VCI). However, few predictive models of VCI in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients have included the total CSVD burden score, especially in the early stage of VCI. Objective To develop and validate a nomogram that includes the total CSVD burden score to predict mild VCI in patients with T2DM. Methods A total of 322 eligible participants with T2DM who were divided into mild and normal cognitive groups were enrolled in this retrospective study. Demographic data, laboratory data and imaging markers of CSVD were collected. The total CSVD burden score was calculated by combining the different CSVD markers. Step-backward multivariable logistic regression analysis with the Akaike information criterion was applied to select significant predictors and develop a best-fit predictive nomogram. The performance of the nomogram was assessed in terms of discriminative ability, calibrated ability, and clinical usefulness. Results The nomogram model consisted of five variables: age, education, hemoglobin A1c level, serum homocysteine level, and total CSVD burden score. A nomogram with these variables showed good discriminative ability (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.801 in internal verification). In addition, the Hosmer-Lemeshow test (χ2 =9.226, P=0.417) and bootstrap-corrected calibration plot indicated that the nomogram had good calibration. The Brier score of the predictive model was 0.178. Decision curve analysis demonstrated that when the threshold probability ranged between 16% and 98%, the use of the nomogram to predict mild VCI in patients with T2DM provide a greater net benefit. Conclusions The nomogram, composed of age, education, stroke, HbA1c level, Hcy level, and total CSVD burden score, had good predictive accuracy and may provide clinicians with a practical tool for predicting the risk of mild VCI in T2DM patients.

Abstract
Researches have proposed that obesity might contribute to development of oligoasthenospermia. This study was performed to confirm whether obesity contributes to oligoasthenospermia as well as the underlying mechanisms in mice fed with a high fat diet (HFD). Meanwhile, the actions of metformin, a drug of well-known weight-lowering effect, on sperm quality in obese mice were investigated. Our results showed that HFD feeding reduced sperm quality and steroid hormone levels in mice, associated with disruptions in testicular histomorphology and spermatogenesis. Moreover, obesity increased sperm apoptosis. These effects could be prevented by metformin treatment in HFD-fed mice. Mechanistically, an increasement in lipid contents associated with decreased hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) protein expression in testes in HFD-fed mice was observed, which could be improved by metformin treatment. Then, the model of TM4 mouse Sertoli cells stimulated with palmitic acid (PA) was used to investigate the potential effect of lipid retention on testicular apoptosis and sperm quality reduction. In consistent, PA exposure elevated lipid contents as well as apoptosis in TM4 cells, which could also be improved by metformin treatment. Of note, the protein expression of HSL was reduced stimulated by PA in TM4 cells, also rescued by metformin. Then, anti-apoptosis effect of metformin would be lost with the deficiency of HSL. In summary, our study propose that obesity contributes to oligoasthenospermia by increasing sperm apoptosis induced by impaired lipid hydrolysis due to HSL down-regulation, which could be prevented with metformin treatment via regulating the expression of HSL in testis in mice.

Abstract
This study employs a combination of bibliometric and epidemiological methodologies to investigate the relationship between metal exposure and glucose homeostasis. The bibliometric analysis quantitatively assessed this field, focusing on study design, predominant metals, analytical techniques, and citation trends. Furthermore, we analyzed cross-sectional data from Beijing, examining the associations between 14 blood metals and 6 glucose homeostasis markers using generalized linear models (GLM). Key metals were identified using LASSO-PIPs criteria, and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) was applied to assess metal mixtures, introducing an "Overall Positive/Negative Effect" concept for deeper analysis. Our findings reveal an increasing research interest, particularly in selenium, zinc, cadmium, lead, and manganese. Urine (27.6%), serum (19.0%), and whole blood (19.0%) were the primary sample types, with cross-sectional studies (49.5%) as the dominant design. Epidemiologically, significant associations were found between 9 metals-cobalt, copper, lithium, manganese, nickel, lead, selenium, vanadium, zinc-and glucose homeostasis. Notably, positive-metal mixtures exhibited a significant overall positive effect on insulin levels, and notable interactions involving nickel were identified. These finding not only map the knowledge landscape of research in this domain but also introduces a novel perspective on the analysis strategies for metal mixtures.

Abstract
A model construction of systemic acute leukemia is challenging. Herein, we established a systemic leukemia mouse model using highly immunodeficient NPG mice without any immunosuppressive treatments. NPG mice received tail intravenous injection of SHI-1 cells at the concentration of 1×107 cells (group A) or 5×107 cells (group B) and randomly sacrificed each seven days post-inoculation. Tumor development was monitored using nested-PCR, peripheral blood-smear analysis, flow cytometry, pathological examinations, and immunohistochemistry. The median survival of mice in groups A and B were 33.0 and 30.0 days, respectively. Blast cells in peripheral blood appeared on day 14 in group B, and on day 21 in group A. In addition, SHI-1 cell specific MLL-AF6 mRNA was detected in both spleen and bone marrow on day 14 post-inoculation. 21 days after inoculation, we observed human CD45+CD33+ cells with an SH-1-immunophenotype in the peripheral blood, spleen, and bone marrow, as well as solid neoplasms in multiple organs. Moreover, the histologically infiltrated leukemic cells expressed CD45. In conclusion, the current study demonstrated the normal growth of SHI-1 cells in the NPG mice without immunosuppression, which caused systemic leukemia similar to that observed in acute leukemia patients. We developed an efficient and reproducible model to study leukemia pathogenesis and progression.

Abstract
Nonlinear optical signal processing (NOSP) has the potential to significantly improve the throughput, flexibility, and cost-efficiency of optical communication networks by exploiting the intrinsically ultrafast optical nonlinear wave mixing. It can support digital signal processing speeds of up to terabits per second, far exceeding the line rate of the electronic counterpart. In NOSP, high-intensity light fields are used to generate nonlinear optical responses, which can be used to process optical signals. Great efforts have been devoted to developing new materials and structures for NOSP. However, one of the challenges in implementing NOSP is the requirement of high-intensity light fields, which is difficult to generate and maintain. This has been a major roadblock to realize practical NOSP systems for high-speed, high-capacity optical communications. Here, we propose using a parity-time (PT) symmetric microresonator system to significantly enhance the light intensity and support high-speed operation by relieving the bandwidth-efficiency limit imposed on conventional single resonator systems. The design concept is the co-existence of a PT symmetry broken regime for a narrow-linewidth pump wave and near-exceptional point operation for broadband signal and idler waves. This enables us to achieve a new NOSP system with two orders of magnitude improvement in efficiency compared to a single resonator. With a highly nonlinear AlGaAs-on-Insulator platform, we demonstrate an NOSP at a data rate approaching 40 gigabits per second with a record low pump power of one milliwatt. These findings pave the way for the development of fully chip-scale NOSP devices with pump light sources integrated together, potentially leading to a wide range of applications in optical communication networks and classical or quantum computation. The combination of PT symmetry and NOSP may also open up opportunities for amplification, detection, and sensing, where response speed and efficiency are equally important. Abstract
Cucurbit[6]uril (Q[6]) could serve as a selective absorbent for the toxic anion Cr2O72-, which was demonstrated by the results of UV-vis, ICP, XPS, SEM, and EDS experiments. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that capture capacity could be attributed to the outer-surface interactions of cucurbit[n]uril between Cr2O72- and the outer surface of Q[6].

Abstract
Glehnia littoralis is an edible plant with significant medicinal value. To further elucidate the potential functional components for developing antitumor agents or functional foods, the polysaccharides in this plant were investigated, and a homogeneous polysaccharide, GLP90-2, was obtained through extraction and ethanol precipitation. By employing methylation, GC-MS, FT-IR, and NMR analysis, GLP90-2 was identified as an arabinan having a molecular weight of 7.76 × 103 g/mol and consisting of three types of residues: α-l-Araf-(1→, →5)-α-l-Araf-(1→, and →3,5)-α-l-Araf-(1→. The subsequent functional analysis revealed that GLP90-2 suppressed tumor development and metastasis in a zebrafish model. Mechanistic studies have shown that GLP90-2 promoted the maturation of DC2.4 cells and macrophages and enhanced the expression of immune-related cytokines, which may be attributed to the interaction between GLP90-2 and TLR-4. Additionally, GLP90-2 exhibited a strong interaction with PD-1, contributing to the activation of immunity. Furthermore, GLP90-2 suppressed angiogenesis in the transgenic zebrafish model, and this impact may be ascribed to the modulation of the VEGF/VEGFR-2 signaling pathway. All the results indicate that GLP90-2 demonstrates a strong tumor immunotherapy effect in vivo and has high potential for development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiac magnetic resonance feature tracking (CMR-FT) is a novel technique for assessing myocardial deformation and dysfunction. However, a comprehensive assessment of normal values of strain parameters in all 4 cardiac chambers using different vendors is lacking. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to characterize the normal values for myocardial strain in all 4 cardiac chambers and identify factors that contribute to variations in FT strain through a systematic review and meta-analysis of the CMR-FT published reports. METHODS The investigators searched PubMed, Embase, and Scopus for myocardial strains of all 4 chambers measured by CMR-FT in healthy adults. The pooled means of all strain parameters were generated using a random-effects model. Subgroup analyses and meta-regressions were performed to identify the sources of variations. RESULTS This meta-analysis included 44 studies with a total of 3,359 healthy subjects. The pooled means of left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LV-GLS), LV global radial strain, and LV global circumferential strain (GCS) were -18.4% (95% CI: -19.2% to -17.6%), 43.7% (95% CI: 40.0%-47.4%), and -21.4% (95% CI: -22.3% to -20.6%), respectively. The pooled means of left atrial (LA)-GLS (corresponding to total strain, passive strain, and active strain) were 34.9% (95% CI: 29.6%-40.2%), 21.3% (95% CI: 16.6%-26.1%) and 14.3% (95% CI: 11.8%-16.8%), respectively. The pooled means of right ventricular (RV)-GLS and right atrial global longitudinal total strain were -24.0% (95% CI: -25.8% to -22.1%) and 36.3% (95% CI: 15.5%-57.0%), respectively. Meta-regression identified field strength (P < 0.001; I2 = 98.6%) and FT vendor (P < 0.001; I2 = 98.5%) as significant confounders contributing to heterogeneity of LV-GLS. The variations of LA-GLSactive were associated with regional distribution (P < 0.001; I2 = 97.3%) and FT vendor (P < 0.001; I2 = 97.4%). Differences in FT vendor were attributed to variations of LV-GCS and RV-GLS (P = 0.02; I2 = 98.8% and P = 0.01; I2 = 93.8%). CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrated the normal values of CMR-FT strain parameters in all 4 cardiac chambers in healthy subjects. Differences in FT vendor contributed to the heterogeneity of LV-GLS, LV-GCS, LA-GLSactive, and RV-GLS, whereas sex, age, and MR vendor had no effect on the normal values of CMR-FT strain measurements.

Abstract
Advances in modern industrial technology continue to place stricter demands on engineering polymeric materials, but simultaneously possessing superior strength and toughness remains a daunting challenge. Herein, a pioneering flexible cage-reinforced supramolecular elastomer (CSE) is reported that exhibits superb robustness, tear resistance, anti-fatigue, and shape memory properties, achieved by innovatively introducing organic imide cages (OICs) into supramolecular networks. Intriguingly, extremely small amounts of OICs make the elastomer stronger, significantly improving mechanical strength (85.0 MPa; ≈10-fold increase) and toughness (418.4 MJ m-3; ≈7-fold increase). Significantly, the cooperative effect of gradient hydrogen bonds and OICs is experimentally and theoretically demonstrated as flexible nodes, enabling more robust supramolecular networks. In short, the proposed strengthening strategy of adding flexible cages effectively balances the inherent conflict between material strength and toughness, and the prepared CSEs are anticipated to be served in large-scale devices such as TBMs in the future.

Abstract
To understand the prevalence of rhinovirus (RV) among acute respiratory infection (ARI) patients, 10-year ARI surveillance in multiple provinces of China were conducted during 2012-2021. Of 15 645 ARI patients, 1180 (7.54%) were confirmed to have RV infection and 820 (69.49%) were children under 5 years of age. RV typing was performed on the 527 VP1 gene sequences, and species A, B, and C accounted for 73.24%, 4.93%, and 21.82%, respectively. Although no significant difference in the proportions of age groups or disease severity was found between RV species, RV-C was more frequently detected in children under 5 years of age, RV-A was more frequently detected in elderly individuals (≥60), and the proportions of pneumonia in RV-A and RV-C patients were higher than those in RV-B patients. The epidemic peak of RV-A was earlier than that of RV-C. A total of 57 types of RV-A, 13 types of RV-B, and 35 types of RV-C were identified in RV-infected patients, and two uncertain RV types were also detected. The findings showed a few differences in epidemiological and clinical features between RV species in ARI patients, and RV-A and RV-C were more prevalent than RV-B.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have reported an increasing prevalence of childhood allergic rhinitis in developing countries. There is still a lack of the recent epidemiology of allergic rhinitis among Chinese preschool children. Therefore, this study explored the prevalence of rhinitis symptoms and identified their associations with potential risk factors among children at the age of 3-6 in Shanghai, China. METHODS Validated International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) questionnaire was adopted to collect information about rhinitis symptoms and potential risk factors. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to assess associations between risk factors and allergic rhinitis and rhinoconjunctivitis. RESULTS A total of 6183 questionnaires were included in our study. The prevalence of rhinitis ever, current rhinitis, and physician-diagnosed rhinitis were 32.6%, 29.2%, and 14.3%, respectively, while the prevalence of current rhinoconjunctivitis was 11.3%. The higher prevalence was observed in boys than in girls in terms of rhinitis ever, current rhinitis, current rhinoconjunctivitis and doctor-diagnosed rhinitis. Autumn had the highest prevalence among four seasons. In our multivariate logistic regression analyses, history of allergic diseases and paracetamol use in the last year showed positive associations with the increased risk of both current rhinitis and rhinoconjunctivitis, and antibiotic use was an independent significant risk factor only for current rhinitis. Genetic factors, including maternal and paternal rhinitis, asthma, and eczema, were significantly associated with the prevalence of current rhinitis. Similar associations were seen between these factors and current rhinoconjunctivitis, except for paternal eczema. Among environmental factors, smoking exposure at home, heavy truck traffic in home's street, floor heating system were independent risk factors for both current rhinitis and rhinoconjunctivitis in the adjusted model, while cleaning the house less than once a week was only associated with current rhinitis. CONCLUSION The prevalence of current rhinitis was 29.2% among children aged 3-6 in Shanghai, China. Sex differences and seasonal variations were observed in the prevalence of rhinitis symptoms. The identified risk factors would provide a basis for policy makers and medical experts to take intervention measures to prevent allergic rhinitis and rhinoconjunctivitis.

Abstract
PURPOSE Molecular residual disease (MRD) is the main cause of postoperative recurrence of breast cancer. However, the baseline tumor genomic characteristics and therapeutic implications of breast cancer patients with detectable MRD after surgery are still unknown. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this study, we enrolled 80 patients with breast cancer who underwent next-generation sequencing-based genetic testing of 1,021 cancer-related genes performed on baseline tumor and postoperative plasma, among which 18 patients had detectable MRD after surgery. RESULTS Baseline clinical characteristics found that patients with higher clinical stages were more likely to have detectable MRD. Analysis of single nucleotide variations and small insertions/deletions in baseline tumors showed that somatic mutations in MAP3K1, ATM, FLT1, GNAS, POLD1, SPEN, and WWP2 were significantly enriched in patients with detectable MRD. Oncogenic signaling pathway analysis revealed that alteration of the Cell cycle pathway was more likely to occur in patients with detectable MRD (p=0.012). Mutational signature analysis showed that defective DNA mismatch repair and activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID) mediated somatic hypermutation (SHM) were associated with detectable MRD. According to the OncoKB database, 77.8% (14/18) of patients with detectable MRD had U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved mutational biomarkers and targeted therapy. CONCLUSION Our study reports genomic characteristics of breast cancer patients with detectable MRD. The cell cycle pathway, defective DNA mismatch repair, and AID-mediated SHM were found to be the possible causes of detectable MRD. We also found the vast majority of patients with detectable MRD have the opportunity to access targeted therapy.

Abstract
The study investigates the association of coffee consumption and odds of osteoporosis/osteopenia among individuals older than 50 years in the United States. In NHANES 2005-2014, drinking ≤ 2 cups(16 oz) of coffee per day can reduce the risk of osteoporosis/osteopenia at the femoral neck and lumbar spine in US adults. Previous epidemiological studies revealed that daily coffee intake reduced the incidence of a cluster of metabolic diseases, however, the link between coffee consumption and prevalence of osteoporosis/osteopenia still remain inconclusive and awaits further confirmation. Based on data collection from 2005 to 2014 survey cycles, National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a sample size of 8789 participants aged 50 and above completing two nonconsecutive 24-h dietary recalls were eventually enrolled for analysis. Associations between coffee intake and BMD were assessed. A lower odds of having femoral neck osteopenia/osteoporosis (FOO) was observed in participants with moderate intake of coffee (≤ 2 cups per day), rather than other beverages (OR 0.83; 95% CI, 0.72-0.95; p = 0.01). Moreover, significant associations existed between daily caffeine intake and both FOO and lumbar-spine osteopenia/osteoporosis (LOO). Even after adjusting for decaffeinated coffee, tea, sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs), and coffee consumption, osteopenia and osteoporosis the odds remained lower at both femoral and neck levels. Our data suggest moderate habitual coffee intake (≤ 2 cups coffee/day) would have protective effects against osteoporosis/osteopenia of femoral neck and spine, among US adults over the age of 50.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have suggested that loss of the EGFR T790M gene mutation may contribute to the development of resistance to Osimertinib in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). AIMS This study aims to assess the relationship between the clinical effectiveness of Osimertinib in NSCLC patients and the T790M mutation status following resistance to Osimertinib and examine differences between plasma and tissue tests and between Asian and non-Asian groups. METHODS The PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane, and EMBASE databases were comprehensively searched for studies on the association between T790M mutation status and the efficacy of Osimertinib between January 2014 and November 2023. Meta-analysis was carried out using Review Manager 5.4 software. RESULTS After evaluating 2727 articles, a total of 14 studies were included in the final analysis. Positive correlations between EGFR T790M mutation status after Osimertinib resistance and longer PFS (HR: 0.44, 95% CI: 0.30-0.66), longer OS (HR: 0.3, 95% CI: 0.10-0.86), longer TTD (HR: 0.69, 95% CI: 0.45-1.07), and improved clinical outcomes including PFS and TTD subgroups (HR: 0.58, 95% CI: 0.47-0.73) were observed. Subgroup analysis revealed that, compared with the blood tests, the results of the T790M mutation tests by the tissue are more significant (HR: 0.24, 95% CI: 0.11-0.52 for tissue tests; HR: 0.47, 95% CI: 0.22-1.00 for plasma tests), and the PFS of Osimertinib were similar for Asian and non-Asian patients (HR: 0.46, 95% CI: 0.31-0.68 for Asians; HR: 0.12, 95% CI: 0.01-1.27 for non-Asians). CONCLUSIONS Persistence of the T790M gene mutation after the development of Osimertinib resistance is associated with higher therapeutic benefits of Osimertinib in NSCLC patients. The results of tissue detection are more significant than those of plasma detection.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The primary problem in simultaneous bilateral auricle reconstruction is the fragility of the reconstructed ear structure. Postoperative pressure is strictly prohibited to ensure the operation's effectiveness. The study aimed to summarize the experience of perioperative postural management in simultaneous bilateral auricular reconstruction. METHOD This study summarizes the experience of perioperative postural management, providing preoperative sleeping posture adaptability training, neck movement training, standardization of the head position angles and the head suspension time in surgery, using protective headrests, paying attention to the transfer and handover procedures, and using specially designed pillows. RESULTS The comprehensive nursing approach in simultaneous bilateral auricular reconstruction significantly reduced complications, improved patient comfort, and optimized postoperative adaptation. Preoperative posture training, standardized intraoperative head positions, and vigilant postoperative care played pivotal roles, demonstrating positive outcomes in 46 cases. DISCUSSION Perioperative position management can reduce the risk of complications and pressure injuries, improving patients' postoperative comfort, emotional state, tolerance, and adaptability. CONCLUSION All ears were viable and in good shape after long-term follow-up. The experiences discussed in this study can be broadly applied to technically mature ear reconstruction teams.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have shown that visible light (VL), especially blue light (BL), could cause significant skin damage. With the emergence of VL protection products, a harmonization of light protection methods has been proposed, but it has not been widely applied in the Chinese population. OBJECTIVE Based on this framework, we propose an accurate and simplified method to evaluate the efficacy of BL photoprotection for the Chinese population. METHODS All subjects (n = 30) were irradiated daily using a blue LED light for four consecutive days. Each irradiation dose was 3/4 MPPD (minimum persistent pigmentation darkening). The skin pigmentation parameters, including L*, M, and ITA°, were recorded. We proposed the blue light protection factor (BPF) metric based on the skin pigmentation parameters to evaluate the anti-blue light efficacies of different products. RESULTS We found that the level of pigmentation rose progressively and linearly as blue light exposure increased. We proposed a metric, BPF, to reflect the anti-blue light efficacy of products based on the linear changes in skin pigment characteristics following daily BL exposure. Moreover, we discovered that the BPF metric could clearly distinguish the anti-blue light efficacies between two products and the control group, suggesting that BPF is an efficient and simple-to-use metric for anti-blue light evaluation. CONCLUSION Our study proposed an accurate and simplified method with an easy-to-use metric, BPF, to accurately characterize the anti-blue light efficacies of cosmetic products, providing support for further development of anti-blue light cosmetics.

Abstract
Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a rare non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis characterized by massive lymphadenopathy and systemic extranodal lesions. We present the case of a 28-year-old woman who presented with recurrent blurred vision in her right eye for 3 months. She developed blindness and atrophy in her left eye a decade prior to presentation. She subsequently developed headache, fever, and impaired mental status. Cranial magnetic resonance imaging indicated hypertrophic pachymeningitis (HP), and 18F-fluoro-2-deoxy-2-d-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography revealed significant FDG uptake in the left dura mater. Autoimmune testing revealed elevated anti-nuclear, anti-SS-A, and anti-SS-B antibody levels. Incisional biopsy of the atrophic eyeball revealed RDD with marked polyclonal plasmacytosis. The patient was diagnosed with RDD accompanied by multisystem involvement, including Sjögren's syndrome (SS), panuveitis, and HP. Treatment with methylprednisolone for several weeks resulted in significant improvement. This is the first reported case of RDD presenting with SS in combination with panuveitis and HP. Although RDD is rarely diagnosed in young patients, interdisciplinary collaboration is essential to prevent a delayed diagnosis.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION There is a lack of perfect solutions for maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) in patients with a high transmission risk of SARS-CoV-2. METHODS MHD patients with a high risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission from April 1 to June 30, 2022, were recruited. We performed 4-h continuous renal replacement therapy with Prismaflex dialysis machine and ST100 suite using continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) mode with a fluid exchange volume of 8000 mL/h. RESULTS Forty-five MHD patients were included with a median dialysis age of 91 months. Overall spKt/V reached 0.96 ± 0.19. Urea reduction ratio was 50.29 ± 7.60% with the ultrafiltration of 2.18 ± 0.79 kg. Dry weight was significantly inversely correlated with spKt/V (R = -0.563, p < 0.001). Female gender was a significant positive factor of spKt/V. Preheating of replacement solution using an incubator solved the complication of shivering in most patients. CONCLUSION Intensive short-time CVVHDF may be considered as an alternative for routine MHD during COVID-19 transitional period.

Abstract
The quest for finding a suitable scaffold system that supports cell survival and function and, ultimately, the regeneration of the pulp-dentin complex remains challenging. Herein, we hypothesized that dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) encapsulated in a collagen-based hydrogel with varying stiffness would regenerate functional dental pulp and dentin when concentrically injected into the tooth slices. Collagen hydrogels with concentrations of 3 mg/mL (Col3) and 10 mg/mL (Col10) were prepared, and their stiffness and microstructure were assessed using a rheometer and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. DPSCs were then encapsulated in the hydrogels, and their viability and differentiation capacity toward endothelial and odontogenic lineages were evaluated using live/dead assay and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. For in vivo experiments, DPSC-encapsulated collagen hydrogels with different stiffness, with or without growth factors, were injected into pulp chambers of dentin tooth slices and implanted subcutaneously in severe combined immunodeficient (SCID) mice. Specifically, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF [50 ng/mL]) was loaded into Col3 and bone morphogenetic protein (BMP2 [50 ng/mL]) into Col10. Pulp-dentin regeneration was evaluated by histological and immunofluorescence staining. Data were analyzed using 1-way or 2-way analysis of variance accordingly (α = 0.05). Rheology and microscopy data revealed that Col10 had a stiffness of 8,142 Pa with a more condensed and less porous structure, whereas Col3 had a stiffness of 735 Pa with a loose microstructure. Furthermore, both Col3 and Col10 supported DPSCs' survival. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction showed Col3 promoted significantly higher von Willebrand factor (VWF) and CD31 expression after 7 and 14 d under endothelial differentiation conditions (P < 0.05), whereas Col10 enhanced the expression of dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), and collagen 1 (Col1) after 7, 14, and 21 d of odontogenic differentiation (P < 0.05). Hematoxylin and eosin and immunofluorescence (CD31 and vWF) staining revealed Col10+Col3+DPSCs+GFs enhanced pulp-dentin tissue regeneration. In conclusion, the collagen-based concentric construct modified by growth factors guided the specific lineage differentiation of DPSCs and promoted pulp-dentin tissue regeneration in vivo.

Abstract
This study aimed to explore the value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) T2 mapping in the assessment of dermatomyositis (DM) and polymyositis (PM). Thirty-three confirmed cases (myosin group) and eight healthy volunteers (healthy control group) at the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, from October 2016 to December 2017, were collected and analyzed. Multiple parameters of the myosin group were quantified, including creatine kinase (CK), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), complement C3, and complement C4. Disease status was evaluated using a panel of tools: myositis disease activity assessment tool-muscle (MDAAT-muscle), myositis disease activity assessment tool-whole (MDAAT-all), health assessment questionnaire (HAQ), medical outcomes study health survey short form-36 item (SF-36), hand muscle strength test (MMT-8) score, and MRI T2 mapping of muscle (22 muscles in the pelvis and thighs) T2 values. The results showed that in the myositis group, the measurements for CK, ESR, CRP, complement C3, and complement C4 were 457.2 (165.6, 1 229.2) IU/L, 20 (10, 42) mm/1h, 3.25 (2.38, 10.07) mg/L, 0.90 (0.83, 1.06) g/L, and 0.18 (0.14, 0.23) g/L, respectively. The scores for MMT-8, MDAAT-muscle, MDAAT-all, HAQ, and SF-36 were 57.12±16.23, 5.34 (4.00, 6.00), 34.63±12.62, 1.55 (0.66, 2.59), and 44.66±7.98, respectively. T2 values were significantly higher in all 22 muscles of the pelvis and thighs of patients with DM or PM compared with the healthy controls [(54.99±11.60)ms vs. (36.62±1.66)ms, P<0.001], with the most severe lesions in the satrorius, iliopsoas, piriformis, gluteus minimus, and gluteus medius muscles. The total muscle T2 value in the myositis group was positively correlated with CK, MDAAT-muscle, MDAAT-all, and HAQ (r=0.461, 0.506, 0.347, and 0.510, respectively, all P<0.05). There was a negative correlation between complement C4, SF-36, and MMT-8 scores (r=-0.424, -0.549, and -0.686, respectively, all P<0.05). Collectively, the findings from this study suggest that MRI T2 mapping can objectively reflect the disease status of DM and PM.

Abstract
Importance The COVID-19 pandemic reportedly increased behavioral health needs and impacted treatment access. Objective To assess changes in incident prescriptions dispensed for medications commonly used to treat depression, anxiety, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and opioid use disorder (OUD), before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Design, Setting, and Participants This was a cross-sectional study using comprehensive, population-level, nationally projected data from IQVIA National Prescription Audit on incident prescriptions (prescriptions dispensed to patients with no prior dispensing from the same drug class in the previous 12 months) dispensed for antidepressants, benzodiazepines, Schedule II (C-II) stimulants, nonstimulant medications for ADHD, and buprenorphine-containing medication for OUD (MOUD), from US outpatient pharmacies. Data were analyzed from April 2018 to March 2022. Exposure Incident prescriptions by drug class (by prescriber specialty, patient age, and sex) and drug. Main Outcomes and Measures Interrupted time-series analysis to compare changes in trends in the monthly incident prescriptions dispensed by drug class and percentage changes in aggregate incident prescriptions dispensed between April 2018 and March 2022. Results Incident prescriptions dispensed for the 5 drug classes changed from 51 500 321 before the COVID-19 pandemic to 54 000 169 during the pandemic. The largest unadjusted percentage increase in incident prescriptions by prescriber specialty was among nurse practitioners across all drug classes ranging from 7% (from 1 811 376 to 1 944 852; benzodiazepines) to 78% (from 157 578 to 280 925; buprenorphine MOUD), whereas for patient age and sex, the largest increases were within C-II stimulants and nonstimulant ADHD drugs among patients aged 20 to 39 years (30% [from 1 887 017 to 2 455 706] and 81% [from 255 053 to 461 017], respectively) and female patients (25% [from 2 352 095 to 2 942 604] and 59% [from 395 678 to 630 678], respectively). Trends for C-II stimulants and nonstimulant ADHD drugs (slope change: 4007 prescriptions per month; 95% CI, 1592-6422 and 1120 prescriptions per month; 95% CI, 706-1533, respectively) significantly changed during the pandemic, exceeding prepandemic trends after an initial drop at the onset of the pandemic (level changes: -50 044 prescriptions; 95% CI, -80 202 to -19 886 and -12 876 prescriptions; 95% CI, -17 756 to -7996, respectively). Although buprenorphine MOUD dropped significantly (level change: -2915 prescriptions; 95% CI, -5513 to -318), trends did not significantly change for buprenorphine MOUD, antidepressants, or benzodiazepines. Conclusions and Relevance Incident use of many behavioral health medications remained relatively stable during the COVID-19 pandemic in the US, whereas ADHD medications, notably C-II stimulants, sharply increased. Additional research is needed to differentiate increases due to unmet need vs overprescribing, highlighting the need for further ADHD guideline development to define treatment appropriateness.

Abstract
As a promising alternative to conventional antibiotic drugs in the biomedical field, functional peptide has been widely used in disease treatment owing to its low toxicity, high absorption rate, and biological activity. Recently, several machine learning methods have been developed for functional peptide prediction. However, the main research heavily relies on statistical features and few consider multifunctional peptide identification. So, we propose SME-MFP, a novel predictor in the imbalanced multi-label functional peptide datasets. First, we employ physicochemical and evolutionary information to represent the peptide sequence's initialization features from multiple perspectives. Second, the features are fused and then put into spatial feature extractors, where the residual connection and multiscale convolutional neural network extract more discriminative features of different lengths' peptide sequences. Besides, we also design AFT-based temporal feature extractors to fully capture the global interactions of the sequences. Finally, devising a new loss to replace the traditional cross entropy loss to settle the class imbalance problems. The results show that our framework not only enhances the model's ability to capture sequence features effectively, but also accuracy improves by 3.89% over existing methods on public peptide datasets.
