Abstract
Background Cancer remains a leading cause of death worldwide and continues to disproportionately impact certain populations. Several frameworks have been developed that illustrate the multiple determinants of cancer. Expanding upon the work of others, we present an applied framework for cancer prevention and control designed to help clinicians, as well as public health practitioners and researchers, better address differences in cancer outcomes. Methods The framework was developed by the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network's Health Behaviors Workgroup. An initial framework draft was developed based on workgroup discussion, public health theory, and rapid literature review on the determinants of cancer. The framework was refined through interviews and focus groups with Federally Qualified Health Center providers (n=2) and cancer patients (n=2); participants were asked to provide feedback on the framework's causal pathways, completeness, and applicability to their work and personal life. Results The framework provides an overview of the relationships between sociodemographic inequalities, social and structural determinants, and key risk factors associated with cancer diagnosis, survivorship, and cancer morbidity and mortality across the lifespan. The framework emphasizes how health-risk behaviors like cigarette smoking interact with psychological, psychosocial, biological, and psychosocial risk factors, as well as healthcare-related behavior and other chronic diseases. Importantly, the framework emphasizes addressing social and structural determinants that influence health behaviors to reduce the burden of cancer and improve health equity. Aligned with previous theory, our framework underscores the importance of addressing co-occurring risk factors and disease states, understanding the complex relationships between factors that influence cancer, and assessing how multiple forms of inequality or disadvantage intersect to increase cancer risk across the lifespan. Conclusions This paper presents an applied framework for cancer prevention and control to address cancer differences. Because the framework highlights determinants and factors that influence cancer risk at multiple levels, it can be used to inform the development, implementation, and evaluation of interventions to address cancer morbidity and mortality.

Abstract
Background: This study will explore the therapeutic value of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) through meta-analysis, combined with network pharmacology analysis. Methods: The results of randomized controlled trials on TCM and HCC were retrieved and summarized from multiple databases. The effective active com-pounds and target genes of the high-frequency TCM were obtained using the TCMSP database, and disease targets of HCC were acquired through the public disease database. The network pharmacology analysis was used to get the core genes and investigate the potential oncogenic molecular mechanism. Results: A total of 14 meta-analysis studies with 1,831 patients suggested that therapy combined TCM is associated with better clinical efficacy and survival prognosis, as well as avoiding many adverse events. A total of 156 compounds, 247 herbal target genes and 36 core genes were identified. The function analysis suggested above genes may participate development in HCC through regulating some pathways, such as HIF-1 pathway and PD-L1 immune-related pathway. Conclusion: TCM, as a novel, safe, and effective multi-mechanism therapy, holds greater value in the treatment of HCC.

Abstract
This paper reported a case of acute severe nitrite poisoning with massive pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE), discussed the pathogenesis and summarized the treatment experience. Common symptoms of nitrite poisoning include headache, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, cyanosis, etc., which can be followed by encephalopathy, neurological dysfunction, hemolysis, etc. However, the cases of PTE are rare in clinical practice and are prone to missed diagnosis. Nitrite and methemoglobin may lead to vascular endothelial damage and promote thrombosis. In the diagnosis and treatment of acute severe nitrite poisoning patients, the targeted preventive measures should be taken.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Tumor chemoprevention and treatment are two approaches aimed at improving the survival of patients with cancers. An ideal anti-tumor drug is that which not only kills tumor cells but also alleviates tumor-causing risk factors, such as precancerous lesions, and prevents tumor recurrence. Chinese herbal monomers are considered to be ideal treatment agents due to their multi-target effects. Astragaloside has been shown to possess tumor chemoprevention, direct anti-tumor, and chemotherapeutic drug sensitization effects. In this paper, we review the effects of astragaloside on tumor prevention and treatment and provide directions for further research.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of primary hepatocellular carcinoma (PHC). Early diagnosis of HCC remains the key to improve the prognosis. In recent years, with the promotion of the concept of precision medicine and more in-depth analysis of the biological mechanism underlying HCC, new diagnostic methods, including emerging serum markers, liquid biopsies, molecular diagnosis, and advances in imaging (novel contrast agents and radiomics), have emerged one after another. Herein, we reviewed and analyzed scientific advances in the early diagnosis of HCC and discussed their application and shortcomings. This review aimed to provide a reference for scientific research and clinical practice of HCC.

Abstract
Objective: To examine the safety and efficacy of the uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic decortication in treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis empyema. Methods: From January 2018 to December 2020, 122 cases of tuberculous empyema treated by decortication in Department of Surgery, Wuhan Pulmonary Hospital were retrospectively analyzed, including 100 males and 22 females, aged(M(IQR)) 29.5(28.0) years (range: 13 to 70 years). According to the surgical approach and drug resistance, patients with drug-resistant tuberculosis who underwent uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic decortication were included in group A (n=22), and those who underwent thoracotomy decortication were included in group B (n=28). Drug-sensitive patients who underwent uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic decortication were included in group C (n=72). There was no statistical difference in the baseline data of the three groups (P>0.05). The operation, early postoperative recovery, and prognosis-related indicators were compared among three groups by Kruskal-Wallis test and χ2 test by Mann-Whitney U test and Bonferroni method between groups A and B, groups A and C. Results: The intraoperative blood loss of group A, group B, and group C was 200(475) ml, 300(200) ml, and 225(300) ml, respectively. There was no significant difference in intraoperative hemorrhage (H=2.74, P=0.254) and treatment outcome (χ2=4.76, P=0.575) among the three groups. Compared with group B, the operation time of group A (302.5(187.5) minutes vs. 200.0(60.0) minutes, U=171.0, P=0.007) and postoperative pulmonary reexpansion duration (4.5(3.0) months vs. 3.0 (2.2) months, U=146.5, P=0.032) were longer, and the postoperative drainage duration (9.5(7.8) days vs. 13.0(10.0) days, U=410.0, P=0.044), and the postoperative hospitalization time (12.0(7.8) days vs. 14.5(4.8) days, U=462.2, P=0.020) were shorter. There was no significant difference in complications between group A and group B (63.6%(14/22) vs. 71.4%(20/28), χ2=0.34, P=0.558). Compared with group C, the postoperative drainage duration of group A (9.5(7.8) days vs. 7.0(4.0) days, U=543.5, P=0.031), the postoperative hospitalization time (12.0(7.8) days vs. 9.0(4.0) days, U=533.0, P=0.031) and postoperative pulmonary reexpansion duration (4.5(3.0) months vs. 3.0(2.0) months, U=961.5, P=0.001) were longer. The operation time (302.5(187.5) minutes vs. 242.5(188.8) minutes, U=670.5, P=0.278), and complications (63.6%(14/22) vs. 40.3%(29/72), χ2=3.70, P=0.054) were not different between group A and group C. Conclusions: For drug-resistant tuberculous empyema, the uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic decortication can achieve the same good therapeutic effect as drug-sensitive tuberculous empyema, and it is as safe as thoracotomy. At the same time, it has the advantage of minimally invasive and can accelerate the early postoperative recovery of patients.

Abstract
Phosphatidylserine (PS) is an important apoptotic-cell surface signal that exists in bacterial and cancer cells. The mechanism by which melittin interacts with the PS membrane remains unclear. Here, we revealed this mechanism by using a dual-channel fluorescence microscope to observe the concentration-dependent process of pore formation in giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) that were exposed to melittin solution. We found that unsaturated PS membranes differed significantly from saturated PS membranes in different phases. This study provides a reference for research and development of anticancer drugs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To propose a new method for mining complexes in dynamic protein network using spatiotemporal convolution neural network. METHODS The edge strength, node strength and edge existence probability are defined for modeling of the dynamic protein network. Based on the time series information and structure information on the graph, two convolution operators were designed using Hilbert-Huang transform, attention mechanism and residual connection technology to represent and learn the characteristics of the proteins in the network, and the dynamic protein network characteristic map was constructed. Finally, spectral clustering was used to identify the protein complexes. RESULTS The simulation results on several public biological datasets showed that the F value of the proposed algorithm exceeded 90% on DIP dataset and MIPS dataset. Compared with 4 other recognition algorithms (DPCMNE, GE-CFI, VGAE and NOCD), the proposed algorithm improved the recognition efficiency by 34.5%, 28.7%, 25.4% and 17.6%, respectively. CONCLUSION The application of deep learning technology can improve the efficiency in analysis of dynamic protein networks.

Abstract
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common form of kidney cancer. Systemic therapy is the preferred method to eliminate residual cancer cells after surgery and prolong the survival of patients with inoperable RCC. A variety of molecular targeted and immunological therapies have been developed to improve the survival rate and prognosis of RCC patients based on their chemotherapy-resistant properties. However, owing to tumor heterogeneity and drug resistance, targeted and immunological therapies lack complete and durable anti-tumor responses; therefore, understanding the mechanisms of systemic therapy resistance and improving clinical curative effects in the treatment of RCC remain challenging. In vitro models with traditional RCC cell lines or primary cell culture, as well as in vivo models with cell or patient-derived xenografts, are used to explore the drug resistance mechanisms of RCC and screen new targeted therapeutic drugs. Here, we review the established methods and applications of in vivo and in vitro RCC drug resistance models, with the aim of improving our understanding of its resistance mechanisms, increasing the efficacy of combination medications, and providing a theoretical foundation for the development and application of new drugs, drug screening, and treatment guidelines for RCC patients.

Photocatalytic hydrogen evolution (PHE) over semiconductor photocatalysts is usually constrained by the limited light-harvesting and separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Most of the reported systems focusing on PHE are facilitated by consuming the photoinduced holes with organic sacrificial electron donors (SEDs). The introduction of the SEDs not only causes the environmental problem, but also increases the cost of the reaction. Herein, a dual-functional photocatalyst is developed with the morphology of sandwiched-like hollowed Pd@TiO2 @ZnIn2 S4 nanobox, which is synthesized by choosing microporous zeolites with sub-nanometer-sized Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs) embedded as the sacrificial templates. The ternary Pd@TiO2 @ZnIn2 S4 photocatalyst exhibits a superior PHE rate (5.35 mmol g-1 h-1 ) and benzylamine oxidation conversion rate (>99%) simultaneously without adding any other SEDs. The PHE performance is superior to the reported composites of TiO2 and ZnIn2 S4 , which is attributed to the elevated light capture ability induced by the hollow structure, and the enhanced charge separation efficiency facilitated by the ultrasmall sized Pd NPs. The unique design presented here holds great potential for other highly efficient cooperative dual-functional photocatalytic reactions.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is an aggressive disease with a high degree of tumor heterogeneity. Genetic lesions of mTOR-related genes, including TSC2 and hyperactivation of mTOR signaling, are common in HCC. However, the association of genetic alterations with hepatocarcinogenesis remains unclear. In this study, continuous truncating mutations occurred within or upstream of the TSC2 Rap_GAP domain in clinical HCC samples. To elucidate whether hyperactivation of mTOR signaling in HCC is caused by TSC2 truncating mutations, HCC cell models carrying the TSC2 deletion (CRISPR/Cas9) or the TSC2 truncating mutation (mutagenesis) were established. Our findings showed that either TSC2 deletion or TSC2 mutant could lead to TSC2 loss-of-function and hyperactivation of mTOR signaling. Furthermore, hyperactivation of mTOR signaling was relieved by rapamycin. Immunohistochemistry of clinical samples confirmed frequent TSC2 loss in HCC. Thus, our study revealed that genetic alterations cause TSC2 loss of function and result in the hyperactivation of mTOR, and high frequency of TSC2 truncating mutations around RAP_GAP domain may be one of the reasons for the hyperactivation of mTOR in HCC patients.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has a poor prognosis due to its high malignancy, rapid disease progression, and the presence of chemotherapy resistance. Long-stranded non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) affect many malignant tumors, including HCC. However, their mechanism of action in HCC remains unclear. This study aimed to clarify the role of DUXAP8 in regulating the malignant phenotype and chemotherapy resistance in HCC. Using an in vivo xenograft tumor model, the regulatory functions and mechanisms of lncRNA DUXAP8 in the progression and response of HCC to chemotherapy were explored. It was found that DUXAP8 was significantly upregulated in a patient-derived xenograft tumor model based on sorafenib treatment, which is usually associated with a relatively poor prognosis in patients. In HCC, DUXAP8 maintained its upregulation in the expression by increasing the stability of m6A methylation-mediated RNA. DUXAP8 levels were positively correlated with the proliferation, migration, invasion, and chemotherapy resistance of HCC in vivo and in vitro. In the mechanistic study, it was found that DUXAP8 competitively binds to miR-584-5p through a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) mechanism, thus acting as a molecular sponge for miR-584-5p to regulate MAPK1 expression, which in turn activates the MAPK/ERK pathway. These findings can provide ideas for finding new prognostic indicators and therapeutic targets for patients with HCC.

Abstract
Pyroptosis, which is a mode of programmed cell death, has proven effective for cancer therapy. However, efficient pyroptosis inducers for tumor treatment are limited. This study proposes biodegradable K3ZrF7:Yb/Er upconversion nanoparticles (ZrNPs) as pyroptosis inducers for cancer immunotherapy. ZrNPs, which are similar to ion reservoirs, can be dissolved inside cancer cells and release high amounts of K+ and [ZrF7]3- ions, resulting a surge in intracellular osmolarity and homeostasis imbalance. This further induces an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS), caspase-1 protein activation, gasdermin D (GSDMD) cleavage, and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) maturity, and results in cytolysis. In vivo tests confirm that ZrNPs-induced pyroptosis exhibits superior antitumor immunity activity confirmed by enhanced dendritic cells (DCs) maturity and frequency of effector-memory T cells, as well as observably inhibiting tumor growth and pulmonary metastasis. This work is believed to extend the biomedical applications of upconversion nanomaterials and deepen the understanding of intrinsic immunomodulatory activity of nanomaterials.

Abstract
Mitochondria participate in the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by modifying processes including but not limited to redox homeostasis, metabolism, and the cell death pathway. These processes depend on the health status of the mitochondria. Quality control processes in mitochondria can repair or eliminate “unhealthy mitochondria” at the molecular, organelle, or cellular level and form an efficient integrated network that plays an important role in HCC tumorigenesis, patient survival, and tumor progression. Here, we review the influence of mitochondria on the biological behavior of HCC. Based on this information, we further highlight the need for determining the role and mechanism of interaction between different levels of mitochondrial quality control in regulating HCC occurrence and progression as well as resistance development. This information may lead to the development of precision medicine approaches against targets involved in various mitochondrial quality control-related pathways.

Abstract
Glioma is a life-threatening malignant tumor. Resistance to traditional treatments and tumor recurrence present major challenges in treating and managing this disease, consequently, new therapeutic strategies must be developed. Crossing the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is another challenge for most drug vectors and therapy medications. Filamentous bacteriophage can enter the brain across the BBB. Compared to traditional drug vectors, phage-based drugs offer thermodynamic stability, biocompatibility, homogeneity, high carrying capacity, self-assembly, scalability, and low toxicity. Tumor-targeting peptides from phage library and phages displaying targeting peptides are ideal drug delivery agents. This review summarized recent studies on phage-based glioma therapy and shed light on the developing therapeutics phage in the personalized treatment of glioma.

Abstract
Surgical treatment is the only possible cure for cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) at present. However, the high recurrence rate of postoperative CCA leads to a very poor prognosis for patients, effective postoperative chemotherapy is hence the key to preventing the recurrence of CCA. The sensitivity of CCA to cytotoxic chemotherapy drugs and targeted drugs varies from person to person, and therefore, the screening of sensitive drugs has become an important topic after CCA surgeries. Patient-Derived tumor Xenograft models (PDX) can stably retain the genetic and pathological characteristics of primary tumors, and better simulate the tumor microenvironment of CCA. The model is also of great significance in screening therapeutic targeted drugs after CCA, analyzing predictive biomarkers, and improving signal pathways in prognosis and basic research. This paper will review the current established methods and applications of the patient-derived tumor xenograft model of cholangiocarcinoma, aiming to provide new ideas for basic research and individualized treatment of cholangiocarcinoma after surgery.

Abstract
Pancreatic cancer is a digestive system malignant tumor with high mortality and poor prognosis, but the mechanisms of progression remain unclear in pancreatic cancer. It's necessary to identify the hub genes in pancreatic cancer and explore the novel potential predictors in the prognosis of pancreatic cancer. We downloaded two mRNA expression profiles from Gene Expression Omnibus and The Cancer Genome Atlas Pancreatic Cancer (TCGA-PAAD) datasets to screen the commonly differentially expressed genes in pancreatic cancer by limma package in R. Subsequently, measurement of the functional similarity among the 38 DEGs in common was performed to identify the hub genes using GOSemSim package. Then, survival analysis and Cox regression were applied to explore prognosis-related hub genes using the survival package. Statistics analysis by two-tailed Student's t-test or one-way based on TCGA-PAAD datasets and qPCR detection in clinical samples were performed to explore the correlations between expression of hub genes in pancreatic cancer tissues and clinical parameters. Based on integrated analysis of TCGA and GEO datasets, we screened 38 DEGs in common, which were all up-regulated. The functional similarity results showed that 10 DEGs including TSPAN1, MSLN, C1orf116, PKP3, CEACAM6, BAIAP2L1, PPL, RAB25, ERBB3, and AP1M2 in the DEGs in common, which had the higher average functional similarity, were considered as the hub genes. Survival analysis results and Cox regression analysis showed that TSPAN1, CEACAM6, as well as ERBB3 were all associated with poor overall survival of PC. qPCR results showed that the expression levels of TSPAN1 and ERBB3 were significantly upregulated in the PC tissues. The statistical analysis results revealed that TSPAN1 expression correlated significantly with histologic grade, T stage, clinical stage, and vital status by two-tailed Student's t-test or one-way ANOVA; ERBB3 expression correlated significantly with T stage, clinical stage, and vital status by two-tailed Student's t-test or one-way ANOVA. We found that TSPAN1 and ERBB3 could be independent predictors of poor survival in pancreatic cancer.

Abstract
The ADAMs (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase) are a family of cell surface proteins with crucial roles in the regulation of cell adhesion, cell proliferation to migration, proteolysis and cell signaling transduction pathways. Among these enzymes, the ADAM17 shows significant effects in the “ectodomain shedding” of its substrates such as cytokines (e.g., tumor necrosis factor α, TNFα), growth factors (e.g., epidermal growth factor, EGF), adhesion proteins (e.g., L-selectin), and their receptors (e.g., IL-6R and TNFα). Several studies focus on the underlying molecular mechanisms of ADAM17 in diseased conditions. Here, we took several different approaches to elucidate the function of ADAM17, the participation of ADAM17 in several human diseases, and the potential as targeted therapy reagents. As more and more studies verify the miRNA-mediated expression variation of ADAM17, the specific regulation network of miRNAs and ADAM17 was exploited in this review as well.

Abstract
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most malignant tumors worldwide, and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is the most common type. In pancreatic cancer, glycolysis is the primary way energy is produced to maintain the proliferation, invasion, migration, and metastasis of cancer cells, even under normoxia. However, the potential molecular mechanism is still unknown. From this perspective, this review mainly aimed to summarize the current reasonable interpretation of aerobic glycolysis in pancreatic cancer and some of the newest methods for the detection and treatment of pancreatic cancer. More specifically, we reported some biochemical parameters, such as newly developed enzymes and transporters, and further explored their potential as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of micro ribonucleic acid (miR)-21 on tibial fracture healing in rabbits by regulating the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) signaling pathway, and to explore its possible underlying mechanism. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 15 healthy male rabbits were randomly divided into three groups, including: model group A (fracture group, n=5), model group B (fracture treatment group, n=5), and model group C (miR-21 siRNA + treatment group, n=5). Fracture healing was observed by imaging. The content of the serum collagen I and collagen II in rabbits was detected via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The morphology of bone tissues was observed via staining. Moreover, the expressions of ERK, transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), and Smad in osteoblasts of tibia were observed via Western blotting and Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), respectively. RESULTS There was bony callus formation in group B and C when compared with group A. Compared with group B, bony callus formation was significantly accelerated in group C, while healing cycle was shortened. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and Masson staining indicated that compared with group A, group C had more fibrous calluses, new capillaries, and fibroblasts in tissues. Meanwhile, group C exerted better maturity of collagen tissues and higher osteoid content at 20 d after modeling. Compared with group C, there were more osteoid tissues with poor maturity in group B. Meanwhile, intramembranous bone formation was deformed, and collagen content was remarkably lower in group B. The content of serum collagen I and collagen II remarkably increased in group B compared with group A (p<0.05). However, it was significantly upregulated in group C compared with group B, showing statistically significant differences (p<0.05). According to the results of Western blotting, the protein expressions of TGF-β1, Smad, and ERK in osteoblasts were significantly upregulated in group B when compared with those in group A (p<0.05). However, they increased remarkably in group C when compared with group B (p<0.05). Besides, RT-PCR results revealed that the messenger RNA (mRNA) expressions of TGF-β1, Smad, and ERK in osteoblasts were significantly higher in group B than those in group A (p<0.05). However, they were markedly raised in group C in comparison with group B (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS Down-regulation of miR-21 promotes tibial fracture healing in rabbits by activating the ERK signaling pathway.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the association between maternal bisphenol A (BPA) exposure during pregnancy and neurobehavioral development in infant. Methods: Participants were from the Ma'anshan Birth Cohort, which was established from October 2008 to October 2010 based on four municipal medical and health institutions in Ma'anshan. High-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was applied for the determination of serum BPA concentration in 1 783 pregnant women sampled at their first filing, and during 2.97 to 28.1 months age of the infants. Neurobehavioral development were assessed by 0-6-year-old pediatric examination table of neuropsychological development. Generalized linear model was used to analyze the association between serum BPA levels during pregnancy and infants' neurobehavioral development. Results: A total of 931 mother-child pairs had complete data on serum BPA detection during pregnancy and assessment of infants' neurobehavioral development status. The age of pregnant women at their first filing was (26.67±3.45) years old, and the M (P25,P75) of serum BPA concentration (ng/ml) was 0.23 (0.11, 0.52), with a detection rate of 84.1% (783/931). The age of infants was (13.18±5.46) months, and 53.5% (498) were boys. The developmental quotient scores of large motor, fine motor, adaptive ability, language ability and social behaviors of infants were (97.88±16.32), (97.16±15.35), (99.64±15.47), (95.3±16.04) and (98.95±14.76) points, respectively. Generalized linear model showed that after adjusting for factors such as delivery mode, feeding mode, family per capita monthly income, preterm delivery, gender, maternal age, residence, pre-pregnancy body mass index and residence time, serum BPA level in pregnancy was negatively associated with infant's development of social behavior [β (95%CI):-2.42 (-4.71, -0.12)]. The post-stratification analysis by infant age revealed that the serum BPA level in pregnancy was only negatively associated with the development of language and social behavior developmental quotient scores in infants between the ages of 12 and 18 months, with β (95%CI) about -6.66 (-13.06, -0.25) and -7.401 (-12.97, -1.83), respectively. Conclusion: BPA exposure during pregnancy affects language and social behavior development in infants, and the detection window is between 12 and 18 months old of the infant.

Abstract
Lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa are the most common infection among hospitalized patients, associated with increased levels of morbidity, mortality and attributable health care costs. Increased resistant Pseudomonas worldwide has been quite meaningful to patients, especially in intensive care unit (ICUs). Different species of Pseudomonas exhibit different genetic profile and varied drug resistance. The present study determines the molecular epidemiology through DNA fingerprinting method and drug resistance of P. aeruginosa isolated from patients with LTRIs admitted in ICU. A total of 79 P. aeruginosa isolated from patients with LRTIs admitted in ICU were characterized by Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP), Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and Repetitive Extrapalindromic PCR (REP-PCR). Antibiotic resistance was determined by minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assay while MDR genes, viz, blaTEM, blaOXA, blaVIM, blaCTX-M-15 were detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Of the 137 Pseudomonas sp isolated from ICU patients, 57.7% of the isolates were reported to be P. aeruginosa. The overall prevalence of P. aeruginosa among the all included patients was 34.5%. The RAPD analysis yielded 45 different patterns with 72 clusters with 57% to 100% similarity level. The RFLP analysis yielded 8 different patterns with 14 clusters with 76% to 100% similarity level. The REP PCR analysis yielded 37 different patterns with 65 clusters with 56% to 100% similarity level. There was no correlation among the different DNA patterns observed between the three different methods. Predominant of the isolates (46.8%) were resistant to amikacin. Of the 79 isolates, 60.8% were positive for blaTEM gene and 39.2% were positive for blaOXA gene. P. aeruginosa was predominantly isolated from patients with LRTIs admitted in ICU. The difference in the similarity level observed between the three DNA fingerprinting methods indicates that there is high inter-strain variability. The high genetic variability and resistance patterns indicates that we should continuously monitor the trend in the prevalence and antibiotic resistance of P. aeruginosa especially in patients with LRTIs admitted in ICU.

Abstract
Cervical cancer (CC) remains a major disease burden on the female population worldwide. Chemotherapy with cisplatin (cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (II); CDDP) and related drugs are the main treatment option for CC; however, their efficacy is limited by the development of drug resistance. Noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) have been found to play critical roles in numerous physiological and pathological cellular processes, including drug resistance of cancer cells. In this review, we describe some of the ncRNAs, including miRNAs, lncRNAs and circRNAs, that are involved in the sensitivity/resistance of CC to CDDP-based chemotherapy and discuss their mechanisms of action. We also describe some ncRNAs that could be therapeutic targets to improve the sensitivity of CC to CDDP-based chemotherapy.

Therefore, based on systems pharmacology, this review summarizes the information available on the anti-tumor effects and mechanism of berberine and its derivatives. The action and potential mechanism of action of berberine and its derivatives when used in the treatment of complex cancers are systematically examined at the molecular, cellular, and organismic levels. It is concluded that, with further in-depth investigations on their toxicity and efficacy, berberine and its derivatives have the potential for use as drugs in cancer therapy, offering improved clinical efficacy and safety.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Swallowing disorder is a health burden for the elderly in China. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of dysphagia and to test the association between skeletal muscle strength and swallowing problems among community-dwelling older adults. DESIGN A cross-sectional study. SETTING Community-dwelling Chinese elderly in China. PARTICIPANTS 3361 adults aged 65 years or above were involved, among which 1740 (51.8%) were female, with average age of 72.64 (Standard deviation, SD=6.10) years old. MEASUREMENTS Handgrip strength (HGS) was used to evaluate skeletal muscle strength. Dysphagia assessment was performed using the Eating Assessment Tool-10 (EAT-10) and the 30mL water swallow test (WST). Binary logistic regression was used to evaluate the relationship between skeletal muscle strength and dysphagia, and covariates as age, gender, material status, etc. were adjusted. RESULTS The prevalence of dysphagia were 5.5% and 12.9%, screened by EAT-10 and 30mL WST respectively. Participants with dysphagia showed lower HGS (21.73 ± 9.20 vs. 25.66 ± 11.32, p<0.001, by EAT-10; 20.26 ± 9.88 vs. 26.22 ± 11.28, p<0.001, by WST). The adjusted model suggested that muscle strength is a protective factor for swallowing disorders (adjusted OR=0.974, 95%CI: 0.950-0.999, by EAT-10; adjusted OR=0.952, 95%CI: 0.933-0.972, by WST). Subgroup analyses of WST found the effects were significant among participants aged in 70-74 years group and ≥75 years group, rather than those aged under 70. CONCLUSION Dysphagia was significantly associated with skeletal muscle strength among the community-dwelling elderly population. Effective interventions should be taken to manage the decline of muscle strength for the older adults, especially early prevention before 70 years old.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with low response rates to cancer vaccines, short duration of anti-tumor response after vaccination, and relatively weak curative effects are problems that have not been resolved effectively during the development and application of cancer vaccines. With the continuous improvement of knowledge and awareness regarding the immune system and cancer cells, many researches have helped to explain the reasons for poor vaccine efficacy. Input from researchers accompanied by some newly emerged strategies could bring hope to improve the therapeutic effects of vaccines. METHODS Data were collected from Web of Science, Medline, Pubmed, through searching of these keywords: "cancer vaccine", "cancer stem cell", "targeted agent", "immune checkpoint blockade" and "neoantigen". RESULTS It may be more effective in immunotherapy of human cancers, including cancer stem cell vaccines, combination vaccines with targeted agents or immune checkpoint blockade, and neoantigen-based vaccines. CONCLUSION Personalized vaccines will become the mainstream solution of cancer treatment program with the continuous improvement of human understanding of the immune system and the progress of related experiments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ten healthy adult Huang-huai white goats were selected and sacrificed by jugular vein bleeding after anaesthesia to observe the distribution characteristics of the histological structure of the intestinal mucosa, goblet cells, IgA, and CD3+ lymphocytes. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three sections of the duodenum, the jejunum, and the ileum were immediately collected and fixed with 4% paraformaldehyde for 72 h to prepare tissue sections. After haematoxylin and eosin, periodic acid Schiff, and immunohistochemical staining was performed, the distribution characteristics of goblet cells, IgA-positive cells, and CD3+ lymphocytes were observed. Results showed high columnar epithelial cells in the duodenum and jejunum of Huang-huai white goat and low columnar epithelial cells in the ileum mucosa. RESULTS Mucopolysaccharides secreted by intestinal goblet cells were mainly neutral, and the number of ileum goblet cells was significantly higher than that of the duodenum and the jejunum (p < 0.05). IgA-positive cells were distributed in the lamina propria of the duodenum, and the number of cells was significantly higher than that in the jejunum and the ileum (p < 0.01). The significant difference was found between the jejunum and the ileum (p < 0.01). The CD3+ cells in the intestinal mucosa were distributed in the lamina propria mucosae, and some of the positive cells in the jejunum were distributed between epithelial cells. CD3+ cells had the largest number in the jejunal lamina propria but had the lowest number in the ileum. CONCLUSIONS The jejunum was significantly higher than the duodenum (p < 0.05), and the ileum was much less than the jejunum (p < 0.01).

Abstract
Vascular disrupting agents (VDAs) have great potential for cancer treatment. Poly(l-glutamic acid)-combretastatin A4 conjugate (PLG-CA4) is a novel class of VDAs. Though it has notable antitumor activity, it can induce host immune responses that promote tumor growth. Here, PLG-CA4 induces the polarization of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) toward the M2-like phenotype in 4T1 metastatic breast cancer (Control 30% vs PLG-CA4 53%; p < 0.05). Compared to the monotherapy of PLG-CA4, inhibition of phosphoinositide 3-kinase gamma (PI3Kγ) attenuates the immunosuppressive effect of PLG-CA4 treatment by decreasing the number of M2-like TAMs (2.0 × 104 to 1.5 × 104 per tumor) and potential enhancement of cytotoxic T lymphocyte (3.0 × 104 to 5.7 × 104 per tumor). Importantly, PI3Kγ inhibitor synergizing with PLG-CA4 significantly extends the mean survival time from 52 days in monotherapy-treated mice to 61.8 days. Additionally, the combination of PLG-CA4 and PI3Kγ inhibitor improves the tumor therapeutic effect of NLG919, an inhibitor of immune checkpoint indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO). As far as it is known, this is the first demonstrated study that VDAs induce the reshaping of macrophages to the M2-like phenotype. The findings also indicate a potential therapeutic strategy of the combination VDAs with an accurate immune modifier in the tumor to reverse the immune resistance.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The genotoxicity of cisplatin towards nuclear DNA is not sufficient to explain the cisplatin resistance of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells; cisplatin interacts with many organelles, which can influence the sensitivity. Here, we explored the role of mitochondrial-lysosomal crosstalk in the cisplatin resistance of HCC cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS Huh7 and HepG2 cells were subjected to different treatments. Flow cytometry was conducted to detect mitochondrial reactive oxygen species, mitochondrial mass, lysosomal function, mitochondrial membrane potential and apoptosis. Western blotting was performed to evaluate protein levels. The oxygen consumption rate was measured to evaluate mitochondrial function. RESULTS Cisplatin activated mitophagy and lysosomal biogenesis, resulting in crosstalk between mitochondria and lysosomes and cisplatin resistance in HCC cells. Furthermore, a combination of cisplatin with the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/mammalian target of rapamycin (PI3K/mTOR) inhibitor PKI-402 induced lysosomal membrane permeabilization. This effect changed the role of the lysosome from a protective one to that of a cell death promoter, completely destroying the mitochondrial-lysosomal crosstalk and significantly enhancing the sensitivity of HCC cells to cisplatin. CONCLUSIONS This is the first evidence of the importance of mitochondrial-lysosomal crosstalk in the cisplatin resistance of HCC cells and of the destruction of this crosstalk by a PI3K/mTOR inhibitor to increase the sensitivity of HCC cells to cisplatin. This mechanism could be developed as a novel target for treatment of HCC in the future.

Abstract
Herbal medicines, as an important part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), have been used to treat digestive system malignancies (DSM) for many years, and have gradually gained recognition worldwide. The role of herbal medicines in the comprehensive treatment of DSM is being improved from adjuvant treatment of the autologous immune function in cancer patients, to the treatment of both the symptoms and disease, direct inhibition of tumor cell growth and proliferation, and induction of tumor cell autophagy and apoptosis. Their specific mechanisms in these treatments are also being explored. The paper reviews the current anti-tumor mechanisms of TCM, including single herbal medicines, Chinese herbal formulations, Chinese medicine preparations and TCM extract, and their application in the comprehensive treatment of digestive system tumors, providing a reference for clinical application of TCM.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the association between maternal bisphenol A exposure during early pregnancy and sleep problems among preschool children. Methods: Research subjects were from one of the sub-cohorts(Ma'anshan Cohort) of the China-Anhui Birth Cohort Study (C-ABCS) in Ma'anshan city. The basic situation of pregnant women and sleep information of preschool children were investigated. We selected preschool children whose mother's maternal serum bisphenol A concentrations of the first trimester had been already detected between December 2012 to Januray 2014. 1 259 pairs of mothers and children were included. The concentrations of bisphenol A exposure during early pregnancy were divided into low, medium and high exposure groups according to 25(th) percentile (P(25)) and 75(th) percentile (P(75)) levels. Multivariate multinomial logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between maternal bisphenol A exposure during early pregnancy and sleep-related problems in preschool children. Results: The P(50) (P(25)-P(75)) of serum bisphenol A exposure level during early pregnancy was 0.231 (0.106-0.512) ng/ml. The sleep-related problems scores of 1 259 preschool children were (16.43±3.82) points. The occasional sleep-related problems were detected about 47.8% (602 cases) and frequent sleep-related problems were detected about 18.3% (230 cases). After the adjustment of the confounding factors such as children's gender, age, BMI, sleep position (lying down, sleeping on one's back), the length of time to sleep and the length of sleep at night, in comparison with bisphenol A low exposure group, the OR (95%CI) value of preschool children with occasional sleep-related problems in maternal bisphenol A high exposure group during early pregnancy was 1.44 (1.01-2.06). After the gender stratification, the results showed that in comparison with bisphenol A low exposure group, the OR (95%CI) value of preschool girls with occasional sleep-related problems in maternal bisphenol A medium and high exposure group during early pregnancy were 1.61 (1.05-2.46) and 2.40 (1.42-4.04), respectively. The OR (95%CI) value of preschool girls with frequent sleep-related problems in maternal bisphenol A high exposure group during early pregnancy was 2.64 (1.34-5.17). However, in boys, there was no statistically significant association between maternal bisphenol A exposure during early pregnancy and sleep-related problems (P>0.05). Conclusion: Maternal bisphenol A exposure during early pregnancy might be related to sleep-related problems in preschool children.

Abstract
Sarcomatoid carcinoma (SC) is an extremely rare and complicated malignant neoplasm that consists of both malignant epithelial components and atypical spindle cells that express an epithelial phenotype. The presents study reported a case of SC of the pancreas (SCP), along with a brief review of the literature. A 63‑year‑old man was admitted to The Second Hospital of Jilin University hospital with complaints of epigastralgia and jaundice of one month in duration. Based on preoperative laboratory blood tests and radiography, a mass at the distal common bile duct was suspected. Intraoperative examination discovered a 2.5x2x1.8‑cm mass in the pancreatic head, with invasion of the distal bile duct. Pancreaticoduodectomy was performed. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry of the specimen confirmed the diagnosis of SCP. The patient succumbed 18 months after surgery due to multiple hepatic metastases.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) accounts for a significant proportion of liver cancer, which has become the second most common cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. To investigate the potential mechanisms of invasion and progression of HCC, bioinformatics analysis and validation by qRT-PCR were performed. We found 237 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) including EGR1, FOS, and FOSB, which were three cancer-related transcription factors. Subsequently, we constructed TF-gene network and miRNA-TF-mRNA network based on data obtained from mRNA and miRNA expression profiles for analysis of HCC. We found that 42 key genes from the TF-gene network including EGR1, FOS, and FOSB were most enriched in the p53 signaling pathway. The qRT-PCR data confirmed that mRNA levels of EGR1, FOS, and FOSB all were decreased in HCC tissues. In addition, we confirmed that the mRNA levels of CCNB1, CCNB2, and CHEK1, three key markers of the p53 signaling pathway, were all increased in HCC tissues by bioinformatics analysis and qRT-PCR validation. Therefore, we speculated that miR-181a-5p, which was upregulated in HCC tissues, could regulate FOS and EGR1 to promote the invasion and progression of HCC by p53 signaling pathway. Overall, the study provides support for the possible mechanisms of progression in HCC.

Abstract
The phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) pathway shows frequent aberrant alterations and pathological activation in breast cancer cells. While PI3K inhibitors have not achieved expectant therapeutic efficacy in clinical trials, and several studies provide promising combination strategies to substantially maximize therapeutic outcomes. Besides its direct impact on regulating cancer cells survival, PI3K inhibitors are also demonstrated to have an immunomodulatory impact based on the tumor microenvironment. Inhibition of the leukocyte-enriched PI3K isoforms may break immune tolerance and restore cytotoxic T cell activity by reprogramming the tumor microenvironment. In addition, PI3K inhibitors have pleiotropic effects on tumor angiogenesis and even induce tumor vascular normalization. In this review, we discuss the mechanism of PI3K inhibitor suppression of breast cancer cells and modulation of the tumor microenvironment in order to provide further thoughts for breast cancer treatment.

Abstract
The induction of lesions in nuclear and mitochondrial DNA by cisplatin is only a small component of its cytostatic/cytotoxic activity. The signaling pathway network in the nucleus and cytoplasm may contribute to chemotherapeutic resistance. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-coactivator 1α (PGC1α)-mediated mitochondrial biogenesis regulates mitochondrial structural and the functional adaptive response against chemotherapeutic stress, and may be a therapeutic target. However, this regulatory network is complex and depends upon tumor types and environments, which require further investigation. Our previous study found that cisplatin-resistant ovarian epithelial carcinoma was more dependent on mitochondrial aerobic oxidation to support their growth, suggesting the association between mitochondrial function and chemotherapeutic resistance. In the present study, it was demonstrated that the expression of PGC1α and level of mitochondrial biogenesis were higher in cisplatin-resistant SKOV3/DDP cells compared with cisplatin-sensitive SKOV3 cells. Furthermore, SKOV3/DDP cells upregulated the expression of PGC1α and maintained mitochondrial structural and functional integrity through mitochondrial biogenesis under cisplatin stress. Inhibiting the expression of PGC1α using short hairpin RNA led to the downregulation of mitochondrial biogenesis and high levels of apoptosis in the SKOV3/DDP cells, and cisplatin resistance was reversed in the PGC1α-deficient SKOV3/DDP cells. Collectively, the present study provided evidence that cisplatin stimulated the expression of PGC1α and the upregulation of mitochondrial biogenesis through PGC1α, promoting cell viability and inhibiting apoptosis in response to cisplatin treatment, thus triggering cisplatin resistance in ovarian cancer cells.
