Abstract
INTRODUCTION We aimed to investigate the association between cardiovascular disease (CVD) and various anthropometric indices, as well as the serum levels of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn), copper-zinc ratio (Cu/Zn ratio) and zinc-copper ratio (Zn/Cu ratio), in a large population sample from northeastern Iranian. METHOD 9704 individuals aged 35 to 65 were enrolled in the first phase of the study. After a 10-year follow-up, 7560 participants were enrolled into the second phase. The variables used in this study included demographic characteristics, such as gender and age; biochemical parameters including: serum Zn, Cu, Cu/Zn ratio, and Zn/Cu ratio; anthropometric parameters including: waist circumference (WC), body mass index (BMI), and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR). The relationship between the aforementioned indices and CVD was examined using decision tree (DT) and logistic regression (LR) models. RESULTS A total of 837 individuals were diagnosed with CVD among the 7560 participants. LR analysis showed that BMI, age, WH zinc-copper ratio (Zn/Cu ratio), and serum Zn/Cu ratio were significantly associated the development of CVD in men, and WHR, age, BMI, serum Cu, and Cu/Zn ratio in women. DT analysis showed that, age was the most important predictor of CVD in both genders. 71% of women, older than 49 years, with a WHR≥ 0.89, serum Cu< 75 (µg/dl), BMI≥ 22.93 (kg/m2), and serum Cu≥ 14 (µg/dl), had the highest risk of CVD. In men, among those who were ≥ 53 years, with a WHR≥ 0.98, serum Zn/Cu ratio< 1.69, and BMI≥ 22.30, had the highest risk of CVD. CONCLUSION Among Iranian adult population, BMI, age, and WHR were one of the predictors of CVD for both genders. The Zn/Cu ratio was CVD predictor for men while Cu/Zn ratio was CVD predictor for women.

Abstract
AIM QTc interval prolongation is a growing global issue which can cause torsades de pointes, a potentially fatal arrhythmia. We aimed to identify risk factors for prolonged QT interval in men and women. METHODS The Mashhad stroke and heart atherosclerotic disorder (MASHAD) cohort study collected electrocardiogram interval data. QT was corrected for heart rate using the Bazett's formula. Ordinal logistic regression with crude (univariable) and adjusted (multivariate) association analyses in the form of odds ratio and corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to identify the factors associated with QTc prolongation. RESULTS A total of 8878 individuals including 5318 females and 3560 males, aged 35 to 65 years, were included in this cross-sectional study. Participants with QTc prolongation were more likely to be older and have hypercholesterolemia, hypertension (HTN), and Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), but to have lower levels of physical activity (P < 0.05). Age (OR = 1.68, 95%CI = 1.18-2.39), hypercholesterolemia (OR = 1.77, 95%CI = 1.24-2.51), HTN (OR = 1.36, 95%CI = 1.06-1.73), T2DM (OR = 1.59, 95%CI = 1.19-2.13), severe anxiety (OR = 1.80, 95%CI = 1.05-3.11) and mild depression (OR = 1.38, 95%CI = 1.01-1.88) were independent risk factors for prolonged QTc interval in men. For women, only HTN (OR = 1.29, 95%CI = 1.02-1.63) and T2DM (OR = 1.50, 95%CI = 1.14-1.97) were independent risk factors. CONCLUSIONS Older age, Hypercholesterolemia, HTN, T2DM, severe anxiety and mild depression in men, and HTN and T2DM in women were associated with high risk of prolonged QTc interval. Healthcare practitioners should be aware of the risk factors of QTc interval prolongation and should exercise caution in the management of certain patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We aimed to investigate the association between an empirical lifestyle index for hyperinsulinemia (ELIH), empirical lifestyle index for insulin resistance (ELIR), and depression and anxiety in an adult Iranian population. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, a total of 6450 participants, aged 35-65 years were recruited as part of the MASHAD cohort study. Dietary intakes were assessed using a validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Depression and anxiety were screened using Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). ELIH and ELIR were calculated using dietary intake, body mass index, and physical activity information. Multivariable ordinal logistic regression models were applied to determine the association between ELIH, ELIR, and depression and anxiety severity. RESULTS In a fully adjusted model, participants with the highest ELIH quartile had a higher odds of more severe depression and anxiety compared to those in the lowest category (OR = 1.44; 95 % CI = 1.22-1.71 and OR = 1.62; 95 % CI = 1.37-1.25, respectively). Participants with the highest ELIR had higher odds of more severe depression and anxiety compared to those in the lowest category (OR = 1.22; 95 % CI = 1.04-1.43 and OR = 1.21; 95 % CI = 1.03-1.42, respectively). LIMITATIONS The assessment of dietary intake and mental health by questionnaires may increases the rate of misclassification. Due to the study's cross-sectional nature, causal relationships cannot be established. CONCLUSION There was a significant positive association between the hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance potential of lifestyle and severity of depression and anxiety among Iranian adults.

Abstract
Gastric cancer (GC), ranking as the third deadliest cancer globally, faces challenges of late diagnosis and limited treatment efficacy. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) emerge as valuable treasured targets for cancer prognosis, diagnosis, and therapy, given their high specificity, convenient non-invasive detection in body fluids, and crucial roles in diverse physiological and pathological processes. Research indicates the significant involvement of lncRNAs in various aspects of GC pathogenesis, including initiation, metastasis, and recurrence, underscoring their potential as novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers, as well as therapeutic targets for GC. Despite existing challenges in the clinical application of lncRNAs in GC, the evolving landscape of lncRNA molecular biology holds promise for advancing the survival and treatment outcomes of gastric cancer patients. This review provides insights into recent studies on lncRNAs in gastric cancer, elucidating their molecular mechanisms and exploring the potential clinical applications in GC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to determine the association between dietary mineral intake and Coronavirus-disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection and its associated hospitalization. METHODS This cohort study utilized the MASHAD study population, which comprised individuals aged 35-65. Upon recruitment in 2007, dietary intake was documented using a validated 65-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Data on COVID-19 PCR test results was collected from all relevant medical centers in Mashhad between February 2020 and June 2022. The regression model included dietary minerals and employed the backward variable selection method, along with advanced data analysis techniques. RESULTS The final analysis involved 1957 participants, including 193 COVID-19-positive patients. The mean age was 49.71 and 50.28 years in the COVID-19-positive and negative groups, respectively (p = 0.12). Dietary intakes of magnesium, iron, and potassium were notably lower in COVID-19-positive patients (P < 0.05). Following adjustments for age and sex, dietary iron remained significantly associated with COVID-19 incidence (OR = 0.94, 95% CI: 0.90-0.98). Furthermore, a statistically significant relationship was observed between dietary zinc and hospitalization due to COVID-19 (OR = 0.69, 95% CI: 0.51-0.93). In dynamical system models, intakes of calcium, zinc, and iron below the cut-offs of 1138, 9.7, and 8.17 mg/day, respectively, were linked to an increased risk of COVID-19 incidence. CONCLUSION Higher dietary iron and zinc intake are associated with decreased risk of COVID-19 infection and hospitalization, respectively.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Follow-up of COVID-19 recovered patients to discover important adverse effects on other organs is required. The psychological health of COVID-19 patients may be affected after recovery. AIM We aimed to evaluate the association between adherence to the Nordic diet (ND) and psychological symptoms caused by COVID-19 after recovery. METHOD Dietary data on 246 qualified adults (123 cases and 123 controls). The dietary intake in this case-control study was calculated by a reliable and valid food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) were used to analyze participant's anxiety, stress, depression, sleep quality, insomnia, and quality of life of participants. RESULTS There was a significant inverse relationship between total anxiety, stress, and depression scores and the intake of whole grains (P < 0.05). Furthermore, there was a significant inverse association between depression and fruit intake (P < 0.05). A significant negative correlation was found between insomnia and sleep quality and the intake of root vegetables (P < 0.05). In the multinomial-regression model, a significant association between the Nordic diet and anxiety, stress, and depression was found only in the case group (OR = 0.719, 95% CI 0.563-0.918, p-value = 0.008; OR = 0.755, 95% CI 0.609-0.934, P-value = 0.010, and, OR = 0.759, 95% CI 0.602-0.956, P-value = 0.019 respectively). CONCLUSION Adherence to the Nordic diet might reduce anxiety, stress, and depression in recovered COVID-19 patients.

Abstract
Hypertension (HTN) is a common chronic condition associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Anthropometric indices of adiposity are known to be associated with a risk of HTN. The aim of this study was to identify the anthropometric indices that best associate with HTN in an Iranian population. 9704 individuals aged 35-65 years were recruited as part of the Mashhad Stroke and Heart Atherosclerotic Disorder (MASHAD) study. Demographic and anthropometric data of all participants were recorded. HTN was defined as a systolic blood pressure (SBP) ≥ 140 mmHg, and/ or a diastolic blood pressure (DBP) ≥ 90 mmHg on two subsequent measurements, or being treated with oral drug therapy for BP. Data mining methods including Logistic Regression (LR), Decision Tree (DT), and Bootstrap Forest (BF) were applied. Of 9704 participants, 3070 had HTN, and 6634 were normotensive. LR showed that body roundness index (BRI), body mass index (BMI) and visceral adiposity index (VAI) were significantly associated with HTN in both genders (P < 0.0001). BRI showed the greatest association with HTN (OR = 1.276, 95%CI = (1.224, 1.330)). For BMI we had OR = 1.063, 95%CI = (1.047, 1.080), for VAI we had OR = 1.029, 95%CI = (1.020, 1.038). An age < 47 years and BRI < 4.04 was associated with a 90% probability of being normotensive. The BF indicated that age, sex and BRI had the most important role in HTN. In summary, among anthropometric indices the most powerful indicator for discriminating hypertensive from normotensive patients was BRI.

Abstract
Dietary nitrates are thought to confer several cardiometabolic health benefits, including improvements in blood pressure and the plasma lipid profile. However, existing data from Iran is conflicting and there is a dearth of literature focusing on non-adult populations. A total of 988 adolescent girls were recruited from schools in different areas of Mashhad and Sabzevar, Iran. Dietary nitrate intake was assessed using a food frequency questionnaire and participants were categorized into quartiles based on this. Differences in participant characteristics between quartiles were assessed using one-way ANOVA and associations between total nitrate intake, nitrate intake from vegetables and cardiometabolic risk markers (blood lipid profile, fasting blood glucose, systolic and diastolic blood pressure) were assessed using linear regression. Nitrate intake from vegetables was positively correlated with triglycerides, even after adjusting for several variables (β = 0.086, 95% CI = 0.002-0.097; P = 0.043). Total nitrate intake was also significantly positively associated with serum triglycerides (β = 0.097, 95% CI = 0.010-0.084; P = 0.012); however, this relationship disappeared after adjusting for several variables. Significant interaction effects were observed between total nitrate intake, nitrate intake from vegetables, and vitamin C upon triglycerides (P < 0.01). No significant relationships were found between total nitrate intake, nitrate intake from vegetables, and other cardiometabolic risk markers. Our findings suggest there may be neutral or possibly detrimental cardiovascular effects of dietary nitrate and/or vitamin C intake which are not in agreement with contemporary literature and warrant further investigation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The prevalence of obesity and the diversity of available treatments makes the development of a national obesity registry desirable. To do this, it is essential to design a minimal dataset to meet the needs of a registry. This review aims to identify the essential elements of a successful obesity registry. METHODS We conducted a systematic literature review adhering to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis recommendations. Google Scholar, Scopus and PubMed databases and Google sites were searched to identify articles containing obesity or overweight registries or datasets of obesity. We included English articles up to January 2023. RESULTS A total of 82 articles were identified. Data collection of all registries was carried out via a web-based system. According to the included datasets, the important features were as follows: demographics, anthropometrics, medical history, lifestyle assessment, nutritional assessment, weight history, clinical information, medication history, family medical history, prenatal history, quality-of-life assessment and eating disorders. CONCLUSIONS In this study, the essential features in the obesity registry dataset were demographics, anthropometrics, medical history, lifestyle assessment, nutritional assessment, weight history and clinical analysis items.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It has been proposed that a greater degree of adherence to a healthy dietary pattern is associated with a lower risk of depression and a poor quality of life (QoL). The Lifelines diet score (LLDS) is a new, evidence-base scoring system to define the quality of diet. We designed a cross-sectional study to investigate the association between LLDS with depression and QoL in Iranian adolescent girls. METHODS A total of 733 female adolescents were recruited from Mashhad and Sabzevar cities, Iran. Depression and QoL were assessed utilizing the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and SF-12v2 questionnaires, respectively. The LLDS was defined by dividing intakes of 12 food groups with negative or positive health effects into quintiles ranging 12 to 60 points. To explore the association between LLDS with QoL and depression, logistic regression was used in crude and adjusted models. RESULTS The prevalence of depression and poor QoL was 24% and 49%, respectively. After adjusting for confounding factors, adolescent girls in the highest quartile of LLDS compared with the participants in the lowest quartile had a 42% lower probability of reporting depressive symptoms (OR: 0.58; 95% CI: 0.35-0.97, P = 0.03). In addition, the participants in the highest quartile of LLDS had lower odds of poor QoL compared with the subjects in the lowest quartile (OR: 0.65; 95% CI: 0.42-0.92, P = 0.04). CONCLUSIONS There is an inverse relationship between LLDS with risk of depression and poor QoL. Prospective and interventional investigations are needed to reach a clear vision.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is defined as the menopause before 40 years of age, and its prevalence is reported to be two-fold higher in Iranian women than the average for woman globally. POI is associated with several cardio/cerebrovascular complications as well as an increased overall mortality. Genetic factors, and serum levels of minerals and vitamin D, have been reported to be related to the prevalence of POI. We have investigated the association between some POI -related genotypes with the serum levels of some important micronutrients. METHODS One hundred and seventeen women with POI and 183 controls without any renal, hepatic, and thyroid abnormalities were recruited as part of the MASHAD study. Demographic and anthropometric features were recorded and blood samples were collected and processed. DNA was extracted from the buffy coat of blood samples from all participants and 8 POI-related single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were determined using ASO-PCR or Tetra ARMS-PCR. Serum minerals and vitamin D concentrations were measured using routine methods. RESULTS In women with POI, serum copper, phosphate, and calcium were significantly different for those with rs244715, rs16991615, and rs4806660 genotypes, respectively. In our control population, significant differences were also found in serum copper concentrations between different genotypes of rs4806660, rs7246479, rs1046089, and rs2303369. After adjusting for all confounding factors, the women with POI carrying TC genotype (rs4806660) had a lower risk to have serum copper levels < 80 (µg/dL) than those carrying a TT genotype. Furthermore, women with POI carrying GG genotype (rs244715) had a 6-fold higher risk to have serum copper levels > 155 than those carrying AA genotype. CONCLUSION The C and G alleles of the rs4806660 and rs244715 polymorphisms respectively are independently associated with serum copper in women with POI. Further studies are necessary to investigate the association of serum copper and other micronutrients in women and other POI -related polymorphisms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Premature menopause (PM) is the cessation of ovarian function before age 40. PM women are more likely to have cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), diabetes, and mental disorders. This is the first study that assessed the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with anti-heat shock protein 27 (Hsp27), High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs- CRP), and PM and serum pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance (PAB), as putative risk factors for CVDs. We aimed to explore the association of oxidative stress markers with eight different SNPs shown to be related to premature menopause. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this cross-sectional research, we included 183 healthy women and 117 premature menopausal women. We determined baseline characteristics for all participants and measured serum hs-CRP, anti-HSP-27 antibody titer, and PAB levels using the established methods. Genotyping for eight SNPs was done using the tetra amplification refractory mutation system polymerase chain reaction (Tetra-ARMS PCR) and allele-specific oligonucleotide PCR (ASO-PCR) methods. RESULTS We found a significant difference between mean serum PAB levels and the genetic variant of rs16991615 (P=0.03). ANCOVA showed a significant effect of the genotypes rs4806660 and rs10183486 on hs-CRP serum levels in the case and control groups, respectively (P=0.04 and P=0.007). ANCOVA also showed an association between rs244715 genotypes and anti-hsp27 serum levels in the case group (P=0.02). There was a significant effect of the genotypes of rs451417 on the serum hs-CRP level in the control group (P=0.03). CONCLUSION There was a significant association of the genetic variants related to PM with oxidative stress and inflammatory markers (serum PAB, anti-hsp27 antibody, and hs-CRP). Accordingly, this seems to be an effective approach to predicting susceptible subjects for cardiovascular and mental disorders as well as various cancers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim was to establish a 10-year dyslipidemia incidence model, investigating novel anthropometric indices using exploratory regression and data mining. METHODS This data mining study was conducted on people who were diagnosed with dyslipidemia in phase 2 (n = 1097) of the Mashhad Stroke and Heart Atherosclerotic Disorder (MASHAD) study, who were compared with healthy people in this phase (n = 679). The association of dyslipidemia with several novel anthropometric indices including Conicity Index (C-Index), Body Roundness Index (BRI), Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI), Lipid Accumulation Product (LAP), Abdominal Volume Index (AVI), Weight-Adjusted-Waist Index (WWI), A Body Shape Index (ABSI), Body Mass Index (BMI), Body Adiposity Index (BAI) and Body Surface Area (BSA) was evaluated. Logistic Regression (LR) and Decision Tree (DT) analysis were utilized to evaluate the association. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of DT were assessed through the performance of a Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve using R software. RESULTS A total of 1776 subjects without dyslipidemia during phase 1 were followed up in phase 2 and enrolled into the current study. The AUC of models A and B were 0.69 and 0.63 among subjects with dyslipidemia, respectively. VAI has been identified as a significant predictor of dyslipidemias (OR: 2.81, (95% CI: 2.07, 3.81)) in all models. Moreover, the DT showed that VAI followed by BMI and LAP were the most critical variables in predicting dyslipidemia incidence. CONCLUSIONS Based on the results, model A had an acceptable performance for predicting 10 years of dyslipidemia incidence. Furthermore, the VAI, BMI, and LAP were the principal anthropometric factors for predicting dyslipidemia incidence by LR and DT models.

Abstract
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most prevalent malignancies worldwide; however, there is not a convincing treatment for this disease. Limitations of conventional CRC therapies force scientists to develop novel treatment concepts for both primary care alongside adjuvant therapy. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been introduced as a promising therapeutic procedure for CRC mediated through theranostic principle in which special dyes, photosensitizers (PSs), are excited by near-infrared (NIR) and visible light. Recent studies showed that PDT has synergistic effects in combination with chemotherapy or immunotherapy in the treatment of CRC patients. Of note, nanoformulation of PS or immunotherapeutic agents could augment the PDT effectiveness. In this review, we summarize PDT application in CRC management with a special focus on the nanoparticles-based delivery system from the perspective of targeting deeper CRC and increased PDT efficiency, which could provide a desirable approach for clinical translation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) has become a major health concern with an increasing prevalence and is now one of the leading attributable causes of death globally. T2DM and cardiovascular disease are strongly associated and T2DM is an important independent risk factor for ischemic heart disease. T-wave abnormalities (TWA) on electrocardiogram (ECG) can indicate several pathologies including ischemia. In this study, we aimed to investigate the association between T2DM and T-wave changes using the Minnesota coding system. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted on the MASHAD cohort study population. All participants of the cohort population were enrolled in the study. 12-lead ECG and Minnesota coding system (codes 5-1 to 5-4) were utilized for T-wave observation and interpretation. Regression models were used for the final evaluation with a level of significance being considered at p < 0.05. RESULTS A total of 9035 participants aged 35-65 years old were included in the study, of whom 1273 were diabetic. The prevalence of code 5-2, 5-3, major and minor TWA were significantly higher in diabetics (p < 0.05). However, following adjustment for age, gender, and hypertension, the presence of TWAs was not significantly associated with T2DM (p > 0.05). Hypertension, age, and body mass index were significantly associated with T2DM (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Although some T-wave abnormalities were more frequent in diabetics, they were not statistically associated with the presence of T2DM in our study.

Abstract
Studying the effects of the microbiome on the development of different types of cancer has recently received increasing research attention. In this context, the microbial content of organs of the gastrointestinal tract has been proposed to play a potential role in the development of pancreatic cancer (PC). Proposed mechanisms for the pathogenesis of PC include persistent inflammation caused by microbiota leading to an impairment of antitumor immune surveillance and altered cellular processes in the tumor microenvironment. The limited available diagnostic markers that can currently be used for screening suggest the importance of microbial composition as a non-invasive biomarker that can be used in clinical settings. Samples including saliva, stool, and blood can be analyzed by 16 s rRNA sequencing to determine the relative abundance of specific bacteria. Studies have shown the potentially beneficial effects of prebiotics, probiotics, antibiotics, fecal microbial transplantation, and bacteriophage therapy in altering microbial diversity, and subsequently improving treatment outcomes. In this review, we summarize the potential impact of the microbiome in the pathogenesis of PC, and the role these microorganisms might play as biomarkers in the diagnosis and determining the prognosis of patients. We also discuss novel treatment methods being used to minimize or prevent the progression of dysbiosis by modulating the microbial composition. Emerging evidence is supportive of applying these findings to improve current therapeutic strategies employed in the treatment of PC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have reported insulin resistance (IR) to be associated with hyperuricemia. In this study, we aimed to assess the possible associations between the empirical dietary index for IR (EDIR), the empirical lifestyle index for IR (ELIR), and non-insulin-based surrogates (triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, triglyceride-to-high-density-lipoprotein-cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio, metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR) and TyG with body mass index (TyG-BMI)) and hyperuricemia in an Iranian population. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 6457 participants aged 35-65 years were recruited as part of the MASHAD cohort study. EDIR and ELIR were calculated using dietary intakes, body mass index, and physical activity information. Insulin resistance surrogates including TyG, TyG-BMI, TG/HDL-C, and METS-IR were calculated for all participants. Hyperuricemia was defined as serum uric acid ≥ 7 mg/dl in men or ≥ 6 mg/dl in women. Multivariable logistic regression models were applied to determine the association between indexes of IR and hyperuricemia. RESULTS The mean ELIR and IR surrogates (TyG, TyG-BMI, TG/ HDL, and METS-IR) were significantly higher in subjects with hyperuricemia compared to non-hyperuricemic subjects (p < 0.001). After adjusting for confounding variables, the association between hyperuricemia and EDIR was not significant, but ELIR had a significant association in all models (p < 0.001). All four IR surrogates (TyG, TyG-BMI, TG/ HDL, and METS-IR) showed a significant association with hyperuricemia (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION There was a significant association between indexes of insulin resistance: TyG, TyG-BMI, TG/HDL-c, METS-IR, and ELIR with hyperuricemia, in a population sample from northeastern Iran.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome (MetS) complications involves the excessive production of reactive oxygen species, inflammation, and endothelial dysfunction. Due to Lycopene, a highly unstable structure and its significant effects on modulating the metabolic system, there is a strong need for a formula that can increase its stability. The aim of this study was to develop an approach for encapsulating Lycopene and investigate its effects on inflammatory markers, oxidative stress, and liver enzymes in patients with MetS. Materials and Methods: This study is a simple randomized, double-blind, objective-based clinical trial that involved eighty subjects with MetS, who were equally and randomly assigned to two groups: one group received 20 mg of Lycopene per day for 8 weeks, and the Placebo group followed the same protocol as the Lycopene group but received a placebo instead of Lycopene. They were called Lycopene and placebo, respectively. During follow-up visits after 4 and 8 weeks, 20 ml of blood was collected for evaluation of liver enzymes and some inflammatory related markers. Results: Prior to the assignment of volunteers to their respective groups, there were no notable differences in C-reactive protein (CRP), serum liver enzymes, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, or pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance (PAB) between the Lycopene and placebo groups. However, our subsequent analysis revealed a significant reduction in the serum levels of CRP (P=0.001) and PAB (P=0.004) in the group that received Lycopene. Our encapsulated Lycopene treatment was not associated with a significant difference in serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate transferase (AST), or alkaline phosphatase (ALP) between our two groups. Conclusion: This study investigated the impact of Lycopene on individuals with MetS, revealing a noteworthy modulation effect on PAB and inflammation linked to MetS. However, no significant differences was demonstrated in serum levels of ALT, AST and ALP between the studied group (registration number: IRCT20130507013263N3).

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease that can spread very rapidly with important public health impacts. The prediction of the important factors related to the patient's infectious diseases is helpful to health care workers. The aim of this research was to select the critical feature of the relationship between demographic, biochemical, and hematological characteristics, in patients with and without COVID-19 infection. METHOD A total of 13,170 participants in the age range of 35-65 years were recruited. Decision Tree (DT), Logistic Regression (LR), and Bootstrap Forest (BF) techniques were fitted into data. Three models were considered in this study, in model I, the biochemical features, in model II, the hematological features, and in model II, both biochemical and homological features were studied. RESULTS In Model I, the BF, DT, and LR algorithms identified creatine phosphokinase (CPK), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), fasting blood glucose (FBG), total bilirubin, body mass index (BMI), sex, and age, as important predictors for COVID-19. In Model II, our BF, DT, and LR algorithms identified BMI, sex, mean platelet volume (MPV), and age as important predictors. In Model III, our BF, DT, and LR algorithms identified CPK, BMI, MPV, BUN, FBG, sex, creatinine (Cr), age, and total bilirubin as important predictors. CONCLUSION The proposed BF, DT, and LR models appear to be able to predict and classify infected and non-infected people based on CPK, BUN, BMI, MPV, FBG, Sex, Cr, and Age which had a high association with COVID-19.

Abstract
There have been inconsistent reports regarding the association between dietary acid load and Metabolic Syndrome (MetS). We aimed to investigate the association between dietary acid load and MetS in an Iranian adult population. In this cross-sectional study, 1945 participants aged 35-65 years were recruited from MASHAD cohort study. Dietary intakes were assessed using a 24-h dietary recall. Diet-based acidity was assessed as the net endogenous acid production (NEAP), potential renal acid load (PRAL), and dietary acid load (DAL). To define MetS, the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria were used. Multivariable logistic regression models were applied to determine the association between diet-based acid load scores and MetS. Participants' mean age and BMI were 47.13 ± 7.78 years and 27.57 ± 4.48 kg/m2, respectively. Around 57% of the population was female. Overall, 31.9% had MetS. According to the full-adjusted model, there was a significant association between higher quartiles of PRAL, NEAP, and DAL and MetS (Q4 PRAL; OR (95%CI) 1.42(1.05-1.91), Q4 NEAP; OR (95%CI) 1.48(1.11-1.98), Q4 DAL; OR (95%CI) 1.44(1.05-1.91)). This study showed a significant positive association between different dietary acid load indicators (PRAL, NEAP, and DAL) and odds of MetS among Iranian adults.

Abstract
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major cause of mortality and morbidity. Several studies have investigated the relationship between trace element status, including copper status, and CVDs in population studies; however, there are controversies about the role of dietary copper and CVD. We aimed to review the association between dietary copper intake with CVD and this association's related factors by reviewing both animal models and human studies. Some animal model studies have reported a strong relationship between dietary copper intake and atherogenesis based on the possible molecular pathways, whilst other studies have not confirmed this relationship. Human studies have not revealed a relationship between CVDs and dietary copper intake, but there is uncertainty about the optimal amount of dietary copper intake in relation reducing the risk of CVDs. These associations may be influenced by ethnicity, gender, underlying co-morbidities and the methods used for its measurement.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Defining accurate age- and sex-specific reference intervals (RIs) for hematology parameters, especially for the pediatric population, is important for making an appropriate clinical diagnosis. To address gaps, we established age-specific RIs for 11 hematologic parameters in Iranian children younger than 30 months for the first time. METHODS Fresh whole blood samples collected from a total of 344 participants (males: 158 and females: 186) ages 3 days to 30 months, with a mean age of 12.91 ± 7.15 months, were recruited from healthcare centers in Mashhad, Iran. Hematologic parameters, including complete blood count (CBC), were analyzed on the Sysmex auto-analyzer system (KX-21 N). RIs were calculated with 90% confidence intervals using the direct method based on CLSI Ep28-A3 and C28-A3 guidelines. RESULTS None of the CBC parameters required sex partitioning. Of 11 CBC parameters, six required age partitions of 3 days-<4 months, 4-<10, 10-<15, and 4-<30 months. Five parameters (i.e., white blood cell count, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, mean platelet volume, red cell distribution width, and platelet distribution width) did not demonstrate age-specific changes. RIs of red blood cell count and hematocrit, as well as hemoglobin, increased with age, while mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, and platelet count, decreased with age. CONCLUSION In this study, we established RIs for 11 hematology parameters in young children. Age partitioning was required for six parameters demonstrating marked changes during the early period of growth and development and necessitating the use of pediatric-specific reference standards.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adolescence is a key time for the development of depression symptoms and the diet quality may be associated with mental health conditions. The present study examined the association between depression and quality of life (QoL) and the global diet quality score (GDQS) as a simple and standardized metric diet quality in Iranian adolescents. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted on 733 adolescent girls recruited using a random cluster sampling method. A 147-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) was used for dietary intake assessment. The GDQS is gained by summing points of all the 25 food groups, ranged from 0 to 49. Depression symptoms were assessed using a Persian version of the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). For assessment of health-related QoL, the Short Form 12 Survey-version 2 (SF-12v2) questionnaire was employed. Multivariable logistic regression examined the association of depression and QoL with GDQS in crude and adjusted models. RESULTS Adolescent girls in the highest tertile of GDQS score compared with the lowest tertile had a 41% lower odds of depressive symptoms (OR: 0.59; 95% CI: 0.39-0.90, P = 0.01). The participants in the third tertile of GDQS score had lower odds of poor QoL compared with the first tertile (OR: 0.56; 95% CI: 0.37-0.85, P < 0.01). These associations remained significant (both P = 0.01) after adjustment for age, energy intake, body mass index (BMI), physical activity, and menstruation (depressive symptoms: OR: 0.59; 95% CI: 0.38-0.92; QoL: OR: 0.59; 95% CI: 0.38-0.91, P = 0.01). CONCLUSION We found that adolescent girls with a higher score of the GDQS had lower odds of depression and poor QoL Prospective and interventional investigations are needed to reach a clear vision.

Abstract
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) comprises a range of chronic liver diseases that result from the accumulation of excess triglycerides in the liver, and which, in its early phases, is categorized NAFLD, or hepato-steatosis with pure fatty liver. The mortality rate of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is more than NAFLD; therefore, diagnosing the disease in its early stages may decrease liver damage and increase the survival rate. In the current study, we screened the gene expression data of NAFLD patients and control samples from the public dataset GEO to detect DEGs. Then, the correlation betweenbetween the top selected DEGs and clinical data was evaluated. In the present study, two GEO datasets (GSE48452, GSE126848) were downloaded. The dysregulated expressed genes (DEGs) were identified by machine learning methods (Penalize regression models). Then, the shared DEGs between the two training datasets were validated using validation datasets. ROC-curve analysis was used to identify diagnostic markers. R software analyzed the interactions between DEGs, clinical data, and fatty liver. Ten novel genes, including ABCF1, SART3, APC5, NONO, KAT7, ZPR1, RABGAP1, SLC7A8, SPAG9, and KAT6A were found to have a differential expression between NAFLD and healthy individuals. Based on validation results and ROC analysis, NR4A2 and IGFBP1b were identified as diagnostic markers. These key genes may be predictive markers for the development of fatty liver. It is recommended that these key genes are assessed further as possible predictive markers during the development of fatty liver.

Abstract
Promoting sustainability in food and nutrition systems is essential to address the various challenges and trade-offs within the current food system. This imperative is guided by key principles and actionable steps, including enhancing productivity and efficiency, reducing waste, adopting sustainable agricultural practices, improving economic growth and livelihoods, and enhancing resilience at various levels. However, in order to change the current food consumption patterns of the world and move toward sustainable diets, as well as increase productivity in the food production chain, it is necessary to employ the findings and achievements of other sciences. These include the use of artificial intelligence-based technologies. Presented here is a narrative review of possible applications of artificial intelligence in the food production chain that could increase productivity and sustainability. In this study, the most significant roles that artificial intelligence can play in enhancing the productivity and sustainability of the food and nutrition system have been examined in terms of production, processing, distribution, and food consumption. The research revealed that artificial intelligence, a branch of computer science that uses intelligent machines to perform tasks that require human intelligence, can significantly contribute to sustainable food security. Patterns of production, transportation, supply chain, marketing, and food-related applications can all benefit from artificial intelligence. As this review of successful experiences indicates, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data are a boon to the goal of sustainable food security as they enable us to achieve our goals more efficiently.

Abstract
One of the leading causes of mortality worldwide is cardiovascular disease, which is influenced by some variables, including calcium and vitamin D. This study aimed to assess the relationship between Angiopoietin-Like 3 (ANGPTL3) gene polymorphisms with vitamin D and calcium levels in cardiovascular disease (CVD) patients. In this research, 1002 people participated. Participants' anthropometric parameters, and FBG, calcium, and vitamin D were assessed. Blood samples were used to extract DNA. Taqman®-based polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to conduct genetic analysis for the rs10789117 and rs17458195. Statistical analysis was applied to determine differences across subgroups and the relationship between polymorphisms and disease. Age, body mass index (BMI), fasting Blood Sugar (FBG), phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), and smoking history were significantly correlated with CVD. Vitamin D was statistically associated with rs10789117 and rs17458195 in non-CVD individuals. In the moderate group, individuals with the C allele in rs10789117 showed a tenfold increase in vitamin D deficiency compared to those with the A allele. However, in rs11207997, individuals with the T allele had 5 to 6 times higher vitamin D deficiency than those with the C allele in all groups. This research demonstrates the relationship between some ANGPTL3 gene polymorphisms and complement levels in CVD patients. It may be concluded that individuals carrying these variants would likely benefit from using vitamin D and calcium supplements to avoid CVD.

Abstract
Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers are an important health problem globally. Natriuretic peptides are hormones that have a crucial role in human physiology. There are a variety of treatments for GI cancer, but conventional therapies have side effects and low efficacy. Studies have demonstrated that natriuretic peptides are therapeutic in different cancer types. Natriuretic peptides are best known for their involvement in regulating blood pressure and blood volume. The anti-tumor effect exerted by natriuretic peptides is via their inhibitory effects on DNA synthesis and by their effects on apoptosis. The anti-proliferative role of natriuretic peptides has been shown in human breast cancer, prostate, colon, pancreatic, lung, ovarian, and other tumors. The roles of natriuretic peptides in these cancers are diverse and not well understood. Therefore, we have reviewed the recent literature on natriuretic peptides in GI cancers as a common malignancy in adults to assess the pathways that NPs are involved in the progression of GI cancers and its effect on the prevention or treatment of GI cancers.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the association between cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and haematologic factors in a cohort of Iranian adults. METHOD For a total population of 9,704 aged 35 to 65, a prospective study was designed. Haematologic factors and demographic characteristics (such as gender, age, and smoking status) were completed for all participants. The association between haematologic factors and CVDs was assessed through logistic regression (LR) analysis, decision tree (DT), and bootstrap forest (BF). RESULTS Almost all of the included factors were significantly associated with CVD (p<.001). Among the included factors, were: age, white blood cell (WBC), and platelet distribution width (PDW) had the strongest correlation with the development of CVD. For unit OR interpretation, WBC has been represented as the most remarkable risk factor for CVD (OR: 1.22 (CI 95% (1.18, 1.27))). Also, age is associated with an increase in the odds of CVD + occurrence (OR: 1.12 (CI 95% (1.11, 1.13))). Moreover, males are times more likely to develop CVD than females (OR: 1.39 (CI 95% (1.22, 1.58))). In DT model, age is the best classifier factor in CVD development, followed by WBC and PDW. Furthermore, based on the BF algorithm, the most crucial factors correlated with CVD are age, WBC, PDW, sex, and smoking status. CONCLUSION The obtained result from LR, DT, and BF models confirmed that age, WBC, and PDW are the most crucial factors for the development of CVD.

Abstract
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is associated with a very poor prognosis. Therefore, there has been a focus on identifying new biomarkers for its early diagnosis and the prediction of patient survival. Genome-wide RNA and microRNA sequencing, bioinformatics and Machine Learning approaches to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs), followed by validation in an additional cohort of PDAC patients has been undertaken. To identify DEGs, genome RNA sequencing and clinical data from pancreatic cancer patients were extracted from The Cancer Genome Atlas Database (TCGA). We used Kaplan-Meier analysis of survival curves was used to assess prognostic biomarkers. Ensemble learning, Random Forest (RF), Max Voting, Adaboost, Gradient boosting machines (GBM), and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGB) techniques were used, and Gradient boosting machines (GBM) were selected with 100% accuracy for analysis. Moreover, protein-protein interaction (PPI), molecular pathways, concomitant expression of DEGs, and correlations between DEGs and clinical data were analyzed. We have evaluated candidate genes, miRNAs, and a combination of these obtained from machine learning algorithms and survival analysis. The results of Machine learning identified 23 genes with negative regulation, five genes with positive regulation, seven microRNAs with negative regulation, and 20 microRNAs with positive regulation in PDAC. Key genes BMF, FRMD4A, ADAP2, PPP1R17, and CACNG3 had the highest coefficient in the advanced stages of the disease. In addition, the survival analysis showed decreased expression of hsa.miR.642a, hsa.mir.363, CD22, BTNL9, and CTSW and overexpression of hsa.miR.153.1, hsa.miR.539, hsa.miR.412 reduced survival rate. CTSW was identified as a novel genetic marker and this was validated using RT-PCR. Machine learning algorithms may be used to Identify key dysregulated genes/miRNAs involved in the disease pathogenesis can be used to detect patients in earlier stages. Our data also demonstrated the prognostic and diagnostic value of CTSW in PDAC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitamin D deficiency is a prevalent problem in worldwide healthcare related to several system disorders. Food fortification as a solution is associated with several challenges including insufficient coverage of the entire population, required degree of fortification, the vehicles used for fortification and potential toxicity. This study aimed to determine the optimal amount of vitamin D for fortification without surpassing the upper intake level (UL) of intake at the 95th percentile of the Iranian population and compare two methods of food fortification. METHODS This study is aimed to develop a model of two different fortifying approaches related to an available dataset called MASHAD cohort study. The dataset comprised demographic and nutritional data of 9704 Iranian individuals living in the Greater Mashhad region. The first approach was a computational method necessary to implement a range of eight foods and calculate the optimal approach. In the second case, we used the European formula method called ILSI. RESULTS To find the appropriate value for fortification, we calculated the consumption of 400 IU and 1000 IU supplements of vitamin D. Three micrograms per 100 g in each food was the optimal output. We also used Flynn and Rasmussen's formula on our data. Using these methods, we found that 2.1 micrograms per 100 kcal provides the best result. Hence, using the two different approaches, the results appear to be consistent and promising. CONCLUSION One interesting finding was that supplement consumption did not greatly affect the impact of fortification. This observation may support the hypothesis to determine the amount of fortification, and we can ignore the study population's supplement consumption.

Abstract
There is a complex interaction between pro-tumoural and anti-tumoural networks in the tumour microenvironment (TME). Throughout tumourigenesis, communication between malignant cells and various cells of the TME contributes to metabolic reprogramming. Tumour Dysregulation of metabolic pathways offer an evolutional advantage in the TME and enhance the tumour progression, invasiveness, and metastasis. Therefore, understanding these interactions within the TME is crucial for the development of innovative cancer treatments. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) serve as carriers of various materials that include microRNAs, proteins, and lipids that play a vital role in the communication between tumour cells and non-tumour cells. EVs are actively involved in the metabolic reprogramming process. This review summarized recent findings regarding the involvement of EVs in the metabolic reprogramming of various cells in the TME of gastrointestinal cancers. Additionally, we highlight identified microRNAs involved in the reprogramming process in this group of cancers and explained the abnormal tumour metabolism targeted by exosomal cargos as well as the novel potential therapeutic approaches.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Vitamin D deficiency has been reported to affect liver function biomarkers. This study was aimed to investigate the effect of consuming vitamin D fortified low-fat dairy products on liver function tests in adults with abdominal obesity. METHODS This total blinded randomized controlled trial was undertaken on otherwise healthy abdominally obese adults living in Mashhad, Iran. Milk and yogurt were fortified with 1500 IU vitamin D3 nano-capsules. Participants were randomized to receive fortified milk (n = 73), plain milk (n = 73), fortified yogurt (n = 69), and plain yogurt (n = 74) for 10 weeks. Blood samples were taken at baseline and at the end of the study to assess serum levels of vitamin D, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and Gamma glutamyl transferase. RESULTS A total of 289 participants completed the study (54% female). The groups were homogenous in terms of age, sex, weight, energy intake, and physical activity level (p-value > 0.05). After the trial, vitamin D serum levels were significantly increased in both groups receiving fortified products (both p < 0.001). There was a significant time*group effect only in serum ALP (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Consumption of dairy products fortified by 1500 IU vitamin D3 might have detrimental effects on serum levels of some liver enzymes in individuals with abdominal obesity. Further studies needed to determine these effects and underlying mechanisms. TRIAL REGISTRATION IRCT20101130005280N27 .

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dietary acid load seems to be associated with psychological disorders through several mechanisms, and may barricade their treatment and recovery. The aim of current study was to evaluate the relationship between dietary acid load, using potential renal acid load (PRAL) and dietary acid load (DAL) scores, with the severity of depression and anxiety among Iranian adults. METHODS A total of 6531 participants aged 35-65 years were recruited in this cross-sectional study. A validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) was used to assess dietary intakes of participants. DAL was estimated using PRAL and DAL scores. Depression and anxiety were screened using Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). RESULTS In the fully adjusted model, women with the highest DAL or PRAL had higher odds of more severe depression compared to those in the lowest category (OR = 1.20; 95% CI = 1.03-1.42 and OR = 1.20; 95% CI = 1.03-1.39, respectively). No significant association was observed between DAL and PRAL and depression severity in men and in the population as a whole. Regarding the association between PRAL and anxiety severity, there was no significant association when separated by sex. However, in the fully adjusted model for the whole population, participants in the highest tertile of PRAL had 13% greater odds of more severe anxiety than the lowest tertile (OR: 1.13, 95% CI: 1.01-1.13). No significant association was observed between DAL and anxiety severity in women, men or in the whole population. CONCLUSION Women, but not men, with higher dietary acid load had significantly higher odds of having more severe depression. A significant positive association was also observed between dietary acid load and anxiety in the whole population.

Abstract
Objectives: Sleep is a conserved vital behavior in humans, and insufficient sleep is associated with several disorders. Recent studies have investigated the association of sleep duration, oxidative stress markers, anxiety, and depression. Therefore, we aim to assess the relationship between sleep duration, serum pro-oxidant/antioxidant balance (PAB) and superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) levels as markers of oxidative stress, anxiety, and depression. Methods: Participants included in our cross-sectional analysis were recruited as part of the MASHAD study (n = 9,184). Nocturnal sleep duration was identified using a self-reported questionnaire, and serum pro-oxidant/antioxidant balance (PAB) and superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) levels were assessed using methods that have been previously reported. Results: Serum PAB, depression, and anxiety scores were found significantly higher in subjects with very short sleep duration. In an adjusted model using MANOVA regression analysis, serum PAB was significantly higher in the subjects with a very short sleep duration (p: 0.016 in depression and p: 0.002 in anxiety). Conclusion: The present cross-sectional study demonstrates a relationship between sleep duration, oxidative balance, and depression/anxiety, especially in anxiety subjects that might predict each other.

Abstract
Previous studies have proposed that heat shock proteins 27 (HSP27) and its anti-HSP27 antibody titers may play a crucial role in several diseases including cardiovascular disease. However, available studies has been used simple analytical methods. This study aimed to determine the factors that associate serum anti-HSP27 antibody titers using ensemble machine learning methods and to demonstrate the magnitude and direction of the predictors using PFI and SHAP methods. The study employed Python 3 to apply various machine learning models, including LightGBM, CatBoost, XGBoost, AdaBoost, SVR, MLP, and MLR. The best models were selected using model evaluation metrics during the K-Fold cross-validation strategy. The LightGBM model (with RMSE: 0.1900 ± 0.0124; MAE: 0.1471 ± 0.0044; MAPE: 0.8027 ± 0.064 as the mean ± sd) and the SHAP method revealed that several factors, including pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance (PAB), physical activity level (PAL), platelet distribution width, mid-upper arm circumference, systolic blood pressure, age, red cell distribution width, waist-to-hip ratio, neutrophils to lymphocytes ratio, platelet count, serum glucose, serum cholesterol, red blood cells were associated with anti-HSP27, respectively. The study found that PAB and PAL were strongly associated with serum anti-HSP27 antibody titers, indicating a direct and indirect relationship, respectively. These findings can help improve our understanding of the factors that determine anti-HSP27 antibody titers and their potential role in disease development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is growing evidence that vitamin D may be related to mental health. The aim of the current study was to investigate the association of dietary and blood inflammatory factors with mental health disorders in subjects with vitamin D deficiency, shedding further light on the complex interplay of these conditions. METHOD In this cross-sectional study, 306 subjects completed the validated Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale questionnaire to evaluate their depression, anxiety, and stress scores. Dietary inflammatory index (DII) and healthy eating index (HEI) were calculated using a validated 65-item food frequency questionnaire. Blood samples were taken and vitamin D, cytokine, and hs-CRP levels were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits. Platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) were calculated using standard laboratory methods. RESULTS The subjects were divided into two groups based on their vitamin D levels: a vitamin D < 20 μg/dl group (N = 257) and a vitamin D ≥ 20 μg/dl group (N = 49). Between group analysis revealed that only DII (p = 0.015), platelet (p = 0.04), and hs-CRP (p = 0.015) were significantly different. In adults with vitamin D levels below 20 μg/dl, NLR and DII were significantly higher in subjects with anxiety (p < 0.05), and this relationship remained significant only for NLR after adjusting for age and sex. Additionally, PLR and HEI were significantly different in depressed compared to non-depressed subjects, and this association remained significant only for HEI after adjusting for age and sex. CONCLUSION In subjects with vitamin D deficiency, increased levels of PLR, NLR, and DII were associated with depression and anxiety, while HEI was negatively associated with depression. These associations were not found in subjects with vitamin D levels ≥20 μg/dl.

Abstract
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cause of cancer-related deaths. The five-year relative survival rate for CRC is estimated to be approximately 90% for patients diagnosed with early stages and 14% for those diagnosed at an advanced stages of disease, respectively. Hence, the development of accurate prognostic markers is required. Bioinformatics enables the identification of dysregulated pathways and novel biomarkers. RNA expression profiling was performed in CRC patients from the TCGA database using a Machine Learning approach to identify differential expression genes (DEGs). Survival curves were assessed using Kaplan-Meier analysis to identify prognostic biomarkers. Furthermore, the molecular pathways, protein-protein interaction, the co-expression of DEGs, and the correlation between DEGs and clinical data have been evaluated. The diagnostic markers were then determined based on machine learning analysis. The results indicated that key upregulated genes are associated with the RNA processing and heterocycle metabolic process, including C10orf2, NOP2, DKC1, BYSL, RRP12, PUS7, MTHFD1L, and PPAT. Furthermore, the survival analysis identified NOP58, OSBPL3, DNAJC2, and ZMYND19 as prognostic markers. The combineROC curve analysis indicated that the combination of C10orf2 -PPAT- ZMYND19 can be considered as diagnostic markers with sensitivity, specificity, and AUC values of 0.98, 1.00, and 0.99, respectively. Eventually, ZMYND19 gene was validated in CRC patients. In conclusion, novel biomarkers of CRC have been identified that may be a promising strategy for early diagnosis, potential treatment, and better prognosis.

Abstract
Despite numerous advantages, curcumin's (CUR) low solubility and low bioavailability limit its employment as a free drug. CUR-incorporated nanoformulation enhances the bioavailability and angiogenesis, collagen deposition, fibroblast proliferation, reepithelization, collagen synthesis, neovascularization, and granulation tissue formation in different wounds. Designing nanoformulations with controlled-release properties ensure the presence of CUR in the defective area during treatment. Different nanoformulations encompassing nanofibers, nanoparticles (NPs), nanospray, nanoemulsion, nanosuspension, nanoliposome, nanovesicle, and nanomicelle were described in the present study comprehensively. Moreover, for some other systems which contain nano-CUR or CUR nanoformulations, including some nanofibers, films, composites, scaffolds, gel, and hydrogels seems the CUR-loaded NPs incorporation has better control of the sustained release, and thereby, the presence of CUR until the final stages of wound healing is more possible. Incorporating CUR-loaded chitosan NPs into nanofiber increased the release time, while 80% of CUR was released during 240 h (10 days). Therefore, this system can guarantee the presence of CUR during the entire healing period. Furthermore, porous structures such as sponges, aerogels, some hydrogels, and scaffolds disclosed promising performance. These architectures with interconnected pores can mimic the native extracellular matrix, thereby facilitating attachment and infiltration of cells at the wound site, besides maintaining a free flow of nutrients and oxygen within the three-dimensional structure essential for rapid and proper wound healing, as well as enhancing mechanical strength.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Corona virus causes respiratory tract infections in mammals. The latest type of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona-viruses 2 (SARS-CoV-2), Corona virus spread in humans in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and their biochemical and hematological factors with the level of infection with COVID-19 to improve the treatment and management of the disease. MATERIAL AND METHOD This study was conducted on a population of 13,170 including 5780 subjects with SARS-COV-2 and 7390 subjects without SARS-COV-2, in the age range of 35-65 years. Also, the associations between biochemical factors, hematological factors, physical activity level (PAL), age, sex, and smoking status were investigated with the COVID-19 infection. RESULT Data mining techniques such as logistic regression (LR) and decision tree (DT) algorithms were used to analyze the data. The results using the LR model showed that in biochemical factors (Model I) creatine phosphokinase (CPK) (OR: 1.006 CI 95% (1.006,1.007)), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) (OR: 1.039 CI 95% (1.033, 1.047)) and in hematological factors (Model II) mean platelet volume (MVP) (OR: 1.546 CI 95% (1.470, 1.628)) were significant factors associated with COVID-19 infection. Using the DT model, CPK, BUN, and MPV were the most important variables. Also, after adjustment for confounding factors, subjects with T2DM had higher risk for COVID-19 infection. CONCLUSION There was a significant association between CPK, BUN, MPV and T2DM with COVID-19 infection and T2DM appears to be important in the development of COVID-19 infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Anemia is a serious public health problem which may be associated with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and brain damage. This survey aims to determine the prevalence of anemia and its association with demographic and biochemical factors and metabolic syndrome in a human sample derived from the MASHAD cohort study. METHODS This survey was conducted on a sub-sample of 9847 individuals aged 35 to 65 as part of the MASHAD cohort study. Demographic characteristics and biochemical and anthropometrics indices were recorded. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20. RESULTS Anemia was seen in 11.5% of the population. Anemia was significantly more prevalent in younger subject (P<0.001), females (P<0.001) and those with elevated body mass index (BMI) (P<0.001). Mean high-density lipoprotein (HDL) was higher in anemic participant (P=0.032). The incidence of anemia was significantly lower in smokers (P<0.001) and also participant with hypertension (HTN) (P<0.001), diabetes mellitus (DM) (P<0.001) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) (P<0.001). Mean FBG (P<0.001), TG (P<0.001), total cholesterol (P<0.001), LDL (P<0.001) and uric acid (P<0.001) were significantly lower in anemic subjects. Cholesterol, MetS, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), BMI, uric acid, diabetes mellitus and also TG remained significantly different after multivariate analysis between anemic and healthy participants. CONCLUSION The studied population had a lower prevalence of anemia compared to the previous WHO report for Iranians. Iron deficiency is recognized as the most important cause of anemia in Iran; however, further investigations will be need to confirm this pattern. We demonstrated that anemia is adversely associated with MetS and DM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a painful condition, experienced by patients undergoing chemotherapy with some specific drugs, such as platinum-based agents, taxanes, and vinca alkaloids. Painful CIPN may lead to dose interruptions and discontinuation of chemotherapy and can negatively impact on the quality of life and clinical outcome of these patients. Due to a lack of a practical medical therapy for CIPN, it is necessary to further explore and identify novel therapeutic options. METHODS We have reviewed PubMed and EMBASE libraries to gather data on the mechanism-based pharmacological management of chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain. RESULT This review has focused on the potential mechanisms by which these chemotherapeutic agents may be involved in the development of CIPN, and explains how this may be translated into clinical management. Additionally, we have presented an overview of emerging candidates for the prevention and treatment of CIPN in preclinical and clinical studies. CONCLUSION Taken together, due to the debilitating consequences of CIPN for the quality of life and clinical outcome of cancer survivors, future studies should focus on identifying underlying mechanisms contributing to CIPN as well as developing effective pharmacological interventions based on these mechanistic insights.

Abstract
Background The accurate diagnosis of cardiac disease is vital in managing patients' health. Data mining and machine learning techniques play an important role in the diagnosis of heart disease. We aimed to examine the diagnostic performances of an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for predicting coronary artery disease and compare this with two statistical methods: flexible discriminant analysis (FDA) and logistic regression (LR). Methods The data of this study is the result of descriptive-analytical research from the study of Mashhad. We used ANFIS, LR, and FDA to predict coronary artery disease. A total of 7385 subjects were recruited as part of the Mashhad Stroke and Heart Atherosclerotic Disorders (MASHAD) cohort study. The data set contained demographic, serum biochemical parameters, anthropometric, and many other variables. To evaluate the ability of trained ANFIS, LR, and FDA models to diagnose coronary artery disease, we used the Hold-Out method.For analyzing data, we used SPSS v25, R 4.0.4, and MATLAB 2018 software. Results The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, Mean squared error (MSE) , and area under the roc curve (AUC) for ANFIS were 83.4%, 80%, 86%, 0.166 and 83.4%. The corresponding values based on the LR method were 72.4%, 74%, 70% , 0.175 and 81.5% and for the FDA method, these measurements were 77.7%, 74%, 81%, 0.223, and 77.6%, respectively. Conclusion There was a significant difference between the accuracy of these three methods. The present findings showed that ANFIS was the most accurate method for diagnosing coronary artery disease compared with LR and FDA methods. Thus, it could be a helpful tool to aid medical decision-making for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease.

Abstract
Objective The obesity prevalence is growing worldwide. There is strong evidence indicating that a disturbance of zinc, copper and magnesium concentrations is associated with the development of obesity and its related diseases. Our aim was to determine the effect of curcumin supplementation on serum zinc, magnesium and copper in obese individuals. Materials and Methods In this randomized crossover trial study, thirty obese patients with an age range of 18 to 65 years were randomized to treatment with curcumin 1 g/day or placebo for 30 days. There was then a two-week wash-out period, after which, subjects crossed to the alternate regimen. Serum levels of zinc, copper and magnesium were determined at baseline and at the end of the study. Results The study groups were similar to each other in base line characteristics. We did not observe significant impacts (p>0.05) of curcumin on Cu, Zn, Mg serum concentrations. Conclusion Curcumin administration at a dose of 1 g/day for 30 days did not affect serum Cu, Zn, Mg levels in obese subjects.

Abstract
Gastric cancer is the high mortality rate cancers globally, and the current survival rate is 30% even with the use of combination therapies. Recently, mounting evidence indicates the potential role of miRNAs in the diagnosis and assessing the prognosis of cancers. In the state-of-art research in cancer, machine-learning (ML) has gained increasing attention to find clinically useful biomarkers. The present study aimed to identify potential diagnostic and prognostic miRNAs in GC with the application of ML. Using the TCGA database and ML algorithms such as Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest, k-NN, etc., a panel of 29 was obtained. Among the ML algorithms, SVM was chosen (AUC:88.5%, Accuracy:93% in GC). To find common molecular mechanisms of the miRNAs, their common gene targets were predicted using online databases such as miRWalk, miRDB, and Targetscan. Functional and enrichment analyzes were performed using Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Database of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), as well as identification of protein-protein interactions (PPI) using the STRING database. Pathway analysis of the target genes revealed the involvement of several cancer-related pathways including miRNA mediated inhibition of translation, regulation of gene expression by genetic imprinting, and the Wnt signaling pathway. Survival and ROC curve analysis showed that the expression levels of hsa-miR-21, hsa-miR-133a, hsa-miR-146b, and hsa-miR-29c were associated with higher mortality and potentially earlier detection of GC patients. A panel of dysregulated miRNAs that may serve as reliable biomarkers for gastric cancer were identified using machine learning, which represents a powerful tool in biomarker identification.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs) gene polymorphisms are related to several metabolic properties. We investigated the association of SNPs rs2241883 of FABP 1 gene with obesity to evaluate the role of FABP1 gene in the pathogenesis of obesity in the population of MASHAD study cohort. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 2731 individuals (1883 Obese and 848 nonobese) aged 35 to 65 years old, were enrolled from the Mashhad Stroke and Heart Atherosclerotic Disorder (MASHAD) study cohort. DNA Quantitation was determined using the NanoDrop®-1000 instrument (NanoDrop-Technologies). The rs2241883 polymorphisms were genotyped by double ARMs PCR (double amplification refractory mutation system) reactions. Data analysis was carried out using SPSS 22 and a p < 0.05 was set for statistical significance. RESULTS The results showed that after adjusting for confounding factors, subjects having the CC genotype for rs2241883 polymorphism were at a higher risk of BMI ≥ 30 mg/kg2 with OR of 1.79 (CI = 1.05-3.07; p = 0.03) and 1.76 (CI = 1.04-2.99; p = 0.04) comparing with reference group using codominant and dominant models, respectively. CONCLUSION The results showed that CC genotype for rs2241883 polymorphism is related to an increased risk of the obesity in dominant and codominant models in a population of MASHAD study cohort.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Indirect methods for reference interval (RI) establishment apply statistical techniques to generate RIs for test result interpretation using stored laboratory data. They present unique advantages relative to traditional direct approaches such as fewer resource requirements; however, there is debate regarding their performance. Herein, we aimed to compare indirect and direct approaches for RI establishment by harnessing data from the Isfahan Cohort Study (ICS). This cohort includes both healthy individuals and those with a history of disease, enabling a direct comparison. METHODS Participants were recruited as part of ICS, including 6504 adults aged 34 years and older. Sociodemographic characteristics, anthropometry, blood pressure, various biochemical indices, and hematology parameters were collected. The refineR method was used to establish indirect RIs (before applying exclusion criteria). Direct RIs were calculated using nonparametric methods per CLSI EP28-A3 guidelines (after applying exclusion criteria). Bias ratios were calculated for each parameter to assess significant differences in estimations. RESULTS Direct and indirect RI estimations for most hematological and biochemical parameters were comparable. Statistically significant bias ratios between methods were observed for the upper limits of total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), hemoglobin (female), and platelet count as well as the lower limits of mean corpuscular hemoglobin (female), mean corpuscular volume, hemoglobin, and hematocrit (female). CONCLUSION Data presented indicate RIs derived from direct and indirect approaches are similar, but not identical. Further work should focus on the clinical significance of such differences as well as the investigation of necessary data-cleaning criteria before indirect method application.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have reported a high frequency of vitamin D deficiency (VDD) among different age groups in Iran. AIMS In this study, the current coverage, status of vitamin D supplement taking, and program efficacy have been evaluated by the Office of Nutrition Department Society in Iran since 2014. METHODS This study was conducted in collaboration with the International UNESCO center for Health-Related Basic Sciences and Human Nutrition and the Office of Nutrition Department Society. Sixty three medical universities were included in the current study to calculate the availability, accessibility and acceptability coverages. Furthermore, 3 medical universities including Mashhad (MUMS), Qom (QUMS) and Zahedan (ZAUMS) University of Medical Sciences were selected based on the results of the National Integrated Micronutrient Survey 2012 (NIMS-II study), in order to assess the status of vitamin D supplement intake in all age ranges. RESULTS Quantitative analysis showed that availability coverage was 74.96% and 77.56% and accessibility was 80.70% and 83.26% in elderly and middle-aged subjects, respectively in 2018. The acceptability was approximately 43.7% and 43.9% among elderly and middle-aged participants, respectively. The availability and acceptability coverage was 80.99% and 85.0% among students in high schools. The mean vitamin D supplement uptake frequency was 27.0% (n = 387); 20.7% and 29.2% in rural and urban area, respectively (P = 0.001). The results showed that there was no significant difference in serum vitamin D levels between urban (20.41 ± 6.43 ng/ml) and rural areas, (P = 0.887). There was no significant difference in the serum vitamin D concentrations between men and women (P = 0.461). CONCLUSIONS The frequency of taking vitamin D supplements was 27.0% in Iran in 2018. The frequency of taking of vitamin D supplements among vitamin D deficient group (serum vitamin D levels <19.99 ng/ml) was 43.6%. Lack of knowledge was the most important reason for not taking vitamin D supplement. Moreover, the serum vitamin D levels have increased in subjects aged 18-30 years old after the implementation of the vitamin D supplementary program.

Abstract
SUBJECT The Angiopoietin-like 3 (ANGPTL3) gene has been reported to be associated with cardiovascular risk. This study is designed to compare the genetic variant (rs1748195) of the ANGPTL3 gene and the presence of a coronary artery occlusion of >50% in Iranian nation. METHOD In this study, 184 patients underwent angiography and 317 healthy individuals were evaluated for polymorphism of rs1748195 the ANGPTL3 gene using Tetra-ARMs PCR. Coronary patients who experience angiography were categorized into two groups: 54 patients who had an angiography indication for the first time and coronary occlusion was <50% (Angio-) and 134 patients who formerly underwent coronary stent implanting at least 1 month before with coronary occlusion of ≥50% that again have an angiography indication (Angio+). In addition, individuals with angio+ are categorized in two groups: (1) non-in-stent restenosis (NISR); patient with a patent stent (N = 92). (2) in-stent restenosis (ISR); in-stent stenosis >50% (N = 42). RESULT The fundamental of characteristics of our study design population was categorized based on undergoing angiography or not. In the present study, we investigated that the CC genotype, and also the A allele corresponding to rs1748195 at the ANGPTL3 gene loci, was associated with negative angiogram and directly related to the risk of coronary occlusion >50%. In contrast, this result was not significant in genotypes of ANGPTL3 between non-ISR and ISR groups. CONCLUSION The outcomes of this study showed that rs1748195 polymorphism at the ANGPTL3 gene loci is associated with an elevated risk for the existence of a coronary occlusion of >50%.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a common clustering of cardiovascular risk factors associated with increased inflammation. Long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) are involved in many of the body's metabolic activities, including inflammation. Vitamin D may play a vital role in preventing metabolic syndrome risk factors. This study aimed to evaluate the status of inflammation and expression of LncRNA and their relationship with serum vitamin D levels in patients with metabolic syndrome. METHOD This cross-sectional study included staff and Mashhad University of Medical Sciences students between 30 and 50 years old who met the International Diabetes Federation criteria for Mets. Total RNA was extracted from both frozen clinical samples using the Trizol reagent. RESULTS A total of eighty people were recruited into the two groups, with and without MetS. Inflammatory markers were higher in the individuals in the MetS group, and linear regression showed an inverse association between serum vitamin D and LncRNAs. There was a positive association between inflammatory biomarkers, lipid profiles and Adiponectin Antisense (APQ AS) expression. CONCLUSION APQ AS and MALAT1 levels are positively associated with inflammatory biomarkers and inverse relation between MALAT1 and serum 25 (OH) D concentration.
