Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Faculty members confront a variety of obstacles over time, the most recent of which is the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, which may increase their vulnerability to burnout (BO). This study aims to examine BO in medical school faculties, as well as the factors that lead to BO and well-being in them. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2021 using online questionnaires completed by 222 faculty members of a medical university in Iran. The Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) and the Well-being index (WBI) were used. Additionally, we gathered individual-level profiles (demographic, well-being) and occupational information (job profile, attitude toward work). RESULTS A total of 60 (27%) faculties reported having high BO, and 112 (50.5%) reported having low well-being. Being female (odds ratio, OR = 2.69), having time to spend with the family (OR = .26), the intent of turnover (OR = 8.65), job recommendation to the offspring (OR = .26), and experiencing violence last year (OR = 2.97) were some of the individual-level factors and job-related attitudes associated with a higher BO. In the neural network for BO, the most important variables were the intention of turnover, followed by adequate family time. CONCLUSION One third of the responding faculty reported severe BO, and BO was found to be significantly associated with lower well-being. The increased levels of BO and a decreased experience of well-being were both associated with a higher intention of turnover. According to the study, it is important to pay attention to both clinical and nonclinical field faculty members, female faculty members, those who have a high workload, and members who have experienced violence in the workplace. By acknowledging the unique challenges and experiences faced by these individuals, tailored measures can be developed to address their specific concerns and foster a supportive and inclusive environment.

Abstract
Background: In the current era of monitoring healthcare costs for patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), there has been a shift in the pattern of such costs. In this cross-sectional study conducted in three hospitals in Iran from 2015 to 2021, we aimed to assess the in-hospital costs of IBD and identify predictors of higher total hospital costs in hospitalized patients with IBD. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at three hospitals in Iran. For the purpose of this study, we collected demographic and clinical information, as well as cost data for patients with IBD. Two non-parametric statistical procedures, classification and regression trees (CARTs) and quantile regression forests (QRFs), were employed to identify the main factors related to hospital costs of IBD, which served as the dependent variable in our analysis. Results: During 7 years, 930 admissions occurred in these three hospitals. 22.3% of patients (138 of 619) were readmitted, and 306 (49.4%) were male. The mean age of the patients was 33 (SD=18.9) years. A total of 454 patients (73.3%) had ulcerative colitis (UC), and 165 patients (26.7%) had Crohn's disease (CD). Hotelling and medication costs accounted for the largest share of the total hospital costs, with percentages of 30.61% and 23.40%, respectively. Length of stay (LOS) was found to be the most important variable related to hospital costs of IBD in both QRF and CART models, followed by age and year of hospital admission in QRF. Additionally, in the CART model, hospital type and year of hospital admission were also significant predictors of hospital costs for patients with IBD. Conclusion: The present study showed that LOS, age, year of admission, and the hospital where the patient is admitted are all important factors that determine hospital costs for patients with IBD. Patients admitted for 20.5 days or longer had the highest hospital costs. These findings can be used as thresholds for future DRG policies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Maximum willingness to pay (WTP) for a health benefit is connected to perceived value. This two-center study aims to analyse diabetic patients' WTP for obtaining a specific preventive treatment package to reduce severe diabetic complications and determine the factors that impact this value. METHODS This cross-sectional research included 557 diabetics from two cities in Iran. The WTP for a preventative package minimising major diabetes complications (cardiovascular, renal, ocular, and diabetic foot) by 50% and 100% was tested using eight scenarios. The Diabetes Attitude Scoring Questionnaire (DAS-3) was used to examine patient attitudes toward diabetes. To determine WTP, a two-stage hurdle method was used. The level of significance was fixed to 0.05. RESULTS Around 80% of 557 people interviewed (mean age 47.54) stated they wanted to pay for a diabetes prevention package. This package's WTP varied from 169.4 to $374.5 depending on the complication and degree of risk reduction. The largest value diabetic patients willing to pay for preventative packages that reduce the chance of blindness was reported, while the lowest cost was stated for the diabetic foot. WTP is influenced by wealth, location of study, marital status, and attitude toward special training, but not by the type of diabetes, inpatient or outpatient setting, or the complications diabetes patients are impacted by. Patients' diabetes attitudes were mainly negative. The score of the attitude of patients towards diabetes was generally suboptimal. CONCLUSION Most diabetic patients were willing to pay for a preventive package and this value was not affected by the type of diabetes and its severity. Our research found that diabetic individuals are willing to pay the most for a preventative package that reduces the chance of blindness, and the least for diabetic foot care. WTP can help health officials allocate resources and manage budgets. The attitude of diabetic patients toward diabetes still needs further interventional research, however.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Owing to daily exposure to high job stress, nurses need to use coping techniques. One of the coping strategies helping a person to cope with stressful situations effectively is resiliency skills. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to examine the factors related to nurses' resiliency during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic. METHODS The resiliency of 288 nurses, 145 nurses from the COVID-19 wards , and 143 nurses from other wards were compared using 25-item Connor & Davidson Resilience Questionnaire. This study was conducted in 2021 in four referral hospitals at Shiraz. RESULTS The mean age of participants was 32 y. The average resilience score in the in the participants worked in COVID-19 wards was 95.30 for men and 87.72 for women, and in the non-COVID-19 wards was 85.82 for men and 88.48 for women. The mean resiliency scores of nurses working in COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 wards did not show a statistically significant difference. Factors affecting resilience included age, employment status, gender, and job expectancy. CONCLUSIONS In this study, the resiliency of nurses working in COVID-19 wards did not differed from that of working in non-COVID-19 ones. This result should be further investigated and elaborated. Health policymakers should consider job expectation, gender, age, and employment status of nurses when making plans for future pandemics.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Maximum willingness to pay (WTP) for a health benefit is related to perceived value. The goal of this study was to find out how much Iranian healthy people would be willing to pay to keep their natural teeth instead of having them pulled. This was done separately for the anterior and posterior teeth. METHODS The highest value was posed as an open-ended question in this cross-sectional analysis conducted in 2021. Four distinct scenarios for treating a tooth with a poor prognosis for natural tooth preservation versus extraction were offered. WTP for the preferred treatment option was asked for painful and painless anterior and posterior teeth separately. A two-stage hurdle approach was employed to determine factors influencing the WTP for a hopeless case. The level of significance was fixed at 0.05. RESULTS Out of 795 individuals, 355 (44.7%) were male and 209 (26.3%) had poor self-stated dental health. Over 65% of those interviewed said they wanted to keep their teeth. The mean WTP was highest for dental preservation up to 94 USD and the lowest was for extraction without replacement 19 USD. The WTP for anterior tooth therapy was greater than the WTP for posterior dental care, regardless of treatment type or tooth discomfort. Participants with higher education, jobs, income-to-expenditure matching, older age, preference for the treatment in a private office, and female gender (except for WTP for a painful posterior tooth) were more likely to have a WTP of at least 1 USD. CONCLUSION The average WTP for treatment of teeth with a poor prognosis was lower than the average fee charged in dental facilities, and more than 65% of participants preferred to keep their teeth. Regardless of the treatment option or whether it was painful or not, WTP for anterior teeth treatment was higher than for posterior teeth. Generally, we found that sociodemographic factors influenced WTP decision-making the most. This study has practical implications for public oral health policymakers and insurance organizations.

Abstract
Simple Summary Fungi can produce many types of secondary metabolites, including mycotoxins. Poisonous mushrooms and mycotoxins that cause food spoilage have been known for a very long time. For example, Aspergillus flavus, which can grow on grains and nuts, produces highly toxic substances called Aflatoxins. Despite their menace to other living organisms, mycotoxins can be used for medicinal purposes, i.e., as antibiotics, growth-promoting compounds, and other kinds of drugs. These and other secondary metabolites produced by plant-pathogenic fungi may cause host plants to display disease symptoms and may play a substantial role in disease progression. Therefore, the identification and characterization of the genes involved in their biosynthesis are essential for understanding the molecular mechanism involved in their biosynthetic pathways and further promoting sustainable knowledge-based crop production. Abstract Polyketides are structurally diverse and physiologically active secondary metabolites produced by many organisms, including fungi. The biosynthesis of polyketides from acyl-CoA thioesters is catalyzed by polyketide synthases, PKSs. Polyketides play roles including in cell protection against oxidative stress, non-constitutive (toxic) roles in cell membranes, and promoting the survival of the host organisms. The genus Verticillium comprises many species that affect a wide range of organisms including plants, insects, and other fungi. Many are known as causal agents of Verticillium wilt diseases in plants. In this study, a comparative genomics approach involving several Verticillium species led us to evaluate the potential of Verticillium species for producing polyketides and to identify putative polyketide biosynthesis gene clusters. The next step was to characterize them and predict the types of polyketide compounds they might produce. We used publicly available sequences from ten species of Verticillium including V. dahliae, V. longisporum, V. nonalfalfae, V. alfalfae, V. nubilum, V. zaregamsianum, V. klebahnii, V. tricorpus, V. isaacii, and V. albo-atrum to identify and characterize PKS gene clusters by utilizing a range of bioinformatic and phylogenetic approaches. We found 32 putative PKS genes and possible clusters in the genomes of Verticillium species. All the clusters appear to be complete and functional. In addition, at least five clusters including putative DHN-melanin-, cytochalasin-, fusarielien-, fujikurin-, and lijiquinone-like compounds may belong to the active PKS repertoire of Verticillium. These results will pave the way for further functional studies to understand the role of these clusters.

Abstract
Recent studies on burnout (BO) have included both individual and situational factors, referred to as job-person fit (JPF). The present study aimed to evaluate the prevalence rate of BO in the hospital staff working at a tertiary referral hospital in southwest Iran and then to highlight the importance of the person in the context of his/her work life. This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2020 on all hospital staff using a three-part questionnaire comprised of personal and work-situational factors, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and the Psychological Empowerment Scale (PES). The partial least squares (PLS) path modelling and the neural network (NN) model were used to identify the significant variables within the BO dimensions. A total of 358 staff completed the questionnaire and were recruited for the study. Emotional exhaustion (EE) was seen in 137 medical staff (38.3%) and depersonalization (DP) was observed in 75 individuals (20.1%). Thinking about job change was the most important factor positively correlated with EE. Positive stress and work experience were among the most significant factors negatively associated with PA and DP, respectively. The hospital staff experienced BO in a way comparable to the national results. Work-situational and personal variables interacted with the three dimensions of BO in the hospital staff. More experienced staff also felt more accomplished and successful, resulting in the identification of a decreased level of DP and elevated PA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: The rate of hospital readmission is seen as a measure of quality and accountability. Knowing the risk factors that can be changed could reduce the cost burden on patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and the health system. METHODS: Retrospective analysis was performed on the data extracted from hospital records during a 4-year period. The study setting encompassed three referral hospitals in Tehran and the south of Iran. The primary outcome was hospital readmission of patients with IBD. The factors associated with binary and categorical dependent variables were analyzed using robust logistic regression and multinomial logistic regression, respectively. The significance level was set at P=0.05. RESULTS: 187 patients were admitted during the 4-year study period for an IBD-related reason, among whom 131 patients (70.1%) had ulcerative colitis (UC), and 56 patients (29.9%) had Crohn's disease (CD). Moreover, 29% (55) of the participants had been readmitted at least once during the study period, and seven patients with IBD had been readmitted five or more times during the study period. Corticosteroids (OR=4.55, 95% confidence interval CI: 1.65- 12.55) and chronic pain (OR=6.65, 95% CI: 1.73-25.62) were two factors associated with their readmission within 90 days. For the patients with five or more times of readmissions, Corticosteroids (RRR=5.68), chronic pain (RRR=5.05), length of hospital stay (RRR=0.69), and age (RRR=0.9) could significantly explain the hospital readmissions. CONCLUSION: About one in seven hospitalizations of patients with IBD leads to 30-day readmission. Moreover, younger patients with IBD and shorter length of hospital stay were more likely to be readmitted five or more times during the study period. The use of corticosteroids and the presence of chronic pain were predictors of 90-day readmission. More studies are needed to detect the best management plan for chronic pains.

Abstract
Polyphagous pests cause significant economic loss worldwide through feeding damage on various cash crops. However, their diets in agricultural landscapes remain largely unexplored. Pest dietary evaluation in agricultural fields is a challenging task currently approached through visual observation of plant feeding and microscopic identification of semi-digested plant material in pest’s guts. While molecular gut content analysis using metabarcoding approaches using universal primers (e.g., rbcl and trnL) have been successful in evaluating polyphagous pest diet, this method is relatively costly and time-consuming. Hence, there is a need for a rapid, specific, sensitive, and cost-effective method to screen for crops in the gut of pests. This is the first study to develop plant-specific primers that target various regions of their genomes, designed using a whole plant genome sequence. We selected Verticillium wilt disease resistance protein (VE-1) and pathogenesis related protein-coding genes 1–5 (PR-1-5) as our targets and designed species-specific primers for 14 important crops in the agroecosystems. Using amplicon sizes ranging from 115 to 407 bp, we developed two multiplex primer mixes that can separate nine and five plant species per PCR reaction, respectively. These two designed primer mixes provide a rapid, sensitive and specific route for polyphagous pest dietary evaluation in agroecosystems. This work will enable future research to rapidly expand our knowledge on the diet preference and range of crops that pests consume in various agroecosystems, which will help in the redesign and development of new crop rotation regimes to minimize polyphagous pest pressure and damage on crops.

Abstract
NADPH oxidase (Nox) genes are responsible for Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) production in living organisms such as plants, animals, and fungi, where ROS exert different functions. ROS are critical for sexual development and cellular differentiation in fungi. In previous publications, two genes encoding thioredoxin and NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase involved in maintaining ROS balance were shown to be remarkably induced in a highly versus a weakly aggressive Verticillium dahliae isolate. This suggested a role of these genes in the virulence of this pathogen. NoxA (NADPH oxidase A) was identified in the V. dahliae genome. We compared in vitro expression of NoxA in highly and weakly aggressive isolates of V. dahliae after elicitation with extracts from different potato tissues. NoxA expression was induced more in the weakly than highly aggressive isolate in response to leaf and stem extracts. After inoculation of potato detached leaves with these two V. dahliae isolates, NoxA was drastically up-regulated in the highly versus the weakly aggressive isolate. We generated single gene disruption mutants for NoxA genes. noxa mutants had significantly reduced virulence, indicating important roles in V. dahliae pathogenesis on the potato. This is consistent with a significant reduction of cellophane penetration ability of the mutants compared to the wild type. However, the cell wall integrity was not impaired in the noxa mutants when compared with the wild type. The resistance of noxa mutants to oxidative stress were also similar to the wild type. Complementation of noxa mutants with a full length NoxA clones restored penetration and pathogenic ability of the fungus. Our data showed that NoxA is essential for both penetration peg formation and virulence in V. dahliae.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Colectomy is considered as a part of therapeutic armamentarium in ulcerative colitis. The availability of new biologic treatments might have affected the trend of using this modality. METHODS The hospital records of all tertiary centers in Shiraz, which are the main centers for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) in southern Iran, were reviewed to estimate the total number of admissions for the treatment of severe UC and colectomy among patients from 2009 to 2019. In this historical cohort study, information about the current status of the patients was collected by phone calls during December 2019. RESULTS Totally, 111 (4%) UC patients, out of 2933 admissions, underwent colectomy. Sixty-five (54.6%) UC colectomy patients were female. The results revealed an upward trend for the ratio of the frequency of colectomies to total UC admissions (Z = 3.39, P < 0.001). Colectomy complications occurred in 44 patients (40%), and most of the patients 38 (34%) had late complications, leading to readmission. Seven patients (6.3%) had died from colectomy during the follow-up calls. Most of the dead patients underwent urgent surgery and were young. CONCLUSION Despite the use of biologics during the past decade in southern Iran, there was a rising trend among the UC patients' colectomies. The frequencies of post-operative complications and mortality was considerable, highlighting the need for refinement of UC care in this region.

Abstract
Terpenes represent the biggest group of natural compounds on earth. This large class of organic hydrocarbons is distributed among all cellular organisms, including fungi. The different classes of terpenes produced by fungi are mono, sesqui, di- and triterpenes, although triterpene ergosterol is the main sterol identified in cell membranes of these organisms. The availability of genomic data from members in the Ceratocystidaceae enabled the detection and characterization of the genes encoding the enzymes in the mevalonate and ergosterol biosynthetic pathways. Using a bioinformatics approach, fungal orthologs of sterol biosynthesis genes in nine different species of the Ceratocystidaceae were identified. Ergosterol and some of the intermediates in the pathway were also detected in seven species (Ceratocystis manginecans, C. adiposa, Huntiella moniliformis, Thielaviopsis punctulata, Bretziella fagacearum, Endoconidiophora polonica and Davidsoniella virescens), using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis. The average ergosterol content differed among different genera of Ceratocystidaceae. We also identified all possible terpene related genes and possible biosynthetic clusters in the genomes used in this study. We found a highly conserved terpene biosynthesis gene cluster containing some genes encoding ergosterol biosynthesis enzymes in the analysed genomes. An additional possible terpene gene cluster was also identified in all of the Ceratocystidaceae. We also evaluated the sensitivity of the Ceratocystidaceae to a triazole fungicide that inhibits ergosterol synthesis. The results showed that different members of this family behave differently when exposed to different concentrations of triazole tebuconazole.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Road traffic fatalities (RTF) is the 8th cause of mortality around the world. At the end of the Decade of Action, it would be of utmost importance to revisit our knowledge on the determinants of RTF. The aim of this study is to assess factors related to RTF at global level. METHODS We used road safety development index which accounts for the interactions between system, human and products to assess the RTF in 115 and 113 countries in 2013 and 2016, respectively. To analyze data, three statistical procedures (linear regression, classification and regression trees, and multivariate adaptive regression splines) were employed. RESULTS Classification and regression trees has the best performance amongst all others followed by multivariate adaptive regression splines for 2013 and 2016 data set with an R2 around 0.83. Results show that any increase in human development index was associated with RTF reduction. Comparing RTF data of 2013 and 2016, 8 countries experienced a change of more than 30%, which demonstrated a significant relationship with GINI index (named after Corrado Gini). Considering the three components of human development index, it is revealed that education explained most of RTF variation in classification and regression trees model followed by income and life expectancy. CONCLUSION Policymakers should consider road collisions as a socio-economic issue. In this regard, they can make provisions to reduce RTF in the long run by focusing on enhancing the three components of human development index, mainly education. However, there is a need to investigate the causation pathway among these three components with RTF with different time-trend procedures.

Abstract
Draft genome sequences of five Calonectria species [including Calonectria aciculata, C. crousiana, C. fujianensis, C. honghensis and C. pseudoturangicola], Celoporthe dispersa, Sporothrix phasma and Alectoria sarmentosa are presented. Species of Calonectria are the causal agents of Eucalyptus leaf blight disease, threatening the growth and sustainability of Eucalyptus plantations in China. Celoporthe dispersa is the causal agent of stem canker in native Syzygium cordatum and exotic Tibouchina granulosa in South Africa. Sporothrix phasma was first discovered in the infructescences of Protea laurifolia and Protea neriifolia in South Africa. Alectoria sarmentosa is fruticose lichen belongs to the alectorioid clade of the family Parmeliaceae. The availability of these genome sequences will facilitate future studies on the systematics, population genetics, and genomics of these fungi.

Abstract
Functional association between genomic loci and specific biological traits remains lacking in many fungi, including the African tree pathogen Ceratocystis albifundus. This is mainly because of the absence of suitable transformation systems for allowing genetic manipulation of this and other fungi. Here, we present an optimized protocol for Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation of C. albifundus. Strain AGL-1 of A. tumefaciens and four binary T-DNA vectors (conferring hygromycin B or geneticin resistance and/or expressing the green fluorescent protein [GFP]) were used for transforming germinated conidia of three isolates of C. albifundus. Stable expression of these T-DNA-encoded traits was confirmed through sequential sub-culturing of fungal transformants on selective and non-selective media and by using PCR and sequence analysis. Single-copy integration of the respective T-DNAs into the genomes of these fungi was confirmed using Southern hybridization analysis. The range of experimental parameters determined and optimised included: (i) concentrations of hygromycin B and geneticin required for inhibiting growth of the wild type fungus and (ii) the dependence of transformation on acetosyringone for inducing the bacterium's virulence genes, as well as (iii) the duration of fungus-bacterium co-cultivation periods and (iv) the concentrations of fungal conidia and bacterial cells used for the latter. The system developed in this study is stable with a high-efficiency, yielding up to 400 transformants per 106 conidia. This is the first report of a transformation protocol for C. albifundus and its availability will be invaluable for functional studies in this important fungus.

Abstract
A 7-year-old stallion with progressive left testicular enlargement was presented. Grossly, the excised testicle measured 25 × 15 × 12 cm and weighed 3.7 kg. It was multinodular with a gray-white surface; however, the right testis was normal. Histologically, the neoplastic cells were disseminated diffusely in the tumoral stroma with a minimal fibrovascular stroma. Neoplastic cells were round to polygonal with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm and large round to oval vesicular or hyperchromatic nucleous with a single prominent nucleolus. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells were positive nuclear immunostaining for C-KIT and negative for OCT3/4. According to gross, histopathological, and immunohistochemical characteristics, the diffuse type of seminoma was diagnosed. Nine months later, the follow-up observation of the case showed that the tumor had no recurrence and metastasis.

Abstract
The genomes of Ceratocystis eucalypticola, Chrysoporthe cubensis, Chrysoporthe deuterocubensis, Davidsoniella virescens, Fusarium temperatum, Graphilbum fragrans, Penicillium nordicum and Thielaviopsis musarum are presented in this genome announcement. These seven genomes are from plant pathogens and otherwise economically important fungal species. The genome sizes range from 28 Mb in the case of T. musarum to 45 Mb for Fusarium temperatum. These genomes include the first reports of genomes for the genera Davidsoniella, Graphilbum and Thielaviopsis. The availability of these genome data will provide opportunities to resolve longstanding questions regarding the taxonomy of species in these genera. In addition these genome sequences through comparative studies with closely related organisms will increase our understanding of how these pathogens cause disease.

Abstract
There are some limiting aspects of scaling up the Neospora caninum tachyzoites in continuous cell lines, particularly as related to the absence of surface attachment. In this study, suspension cell culture of Theileria annulata-infected lymphoblastoid (TIL) was used as a host cell for the continous production of N. caninum tachyzoites. The numbers of free tachyzoites in the medium supernatant were showed regularly increased up to the day 6 post-cultivation. Transmission electron microscopy demonstrated that N. caninum tachyzoites invaded the TIL cells and multiplied intracellularly. This showed that the tachyzoites were successfully proliferated in TIL cells and were released in complete Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium. This is a successful report of in vitro cultivation of N. caninum tachyzoites achieved by using suspension host cell culture.

Abstract
Plum (Prunus domestica) and peach (P. persica) are widely grown, often in alternate rows with citrus, in the Mazandaran Province of Iran. In June 2011, a dry fruit rot of plum was observed in several production regions in Mazandaran Province (35°47'N, 50°34'E). Initial symptoms at pit-hardening stage appeared as dark brown, circular, necrotic spots from 2 to 5 cm in diameter. They later developed into a dry fruit rot. Severe symptoms occurred during June and July when warm weather (temperature around 28°C) and high relative humidity (RH) (>85%) were present. Marketable yield losses reached 50% to almost 100% in many orchards. To isolate the causal organism, symptomatic fruits were surface disinfested for 1 min in 0.5% active chlorine, washed thoroughly with sterile distilled water, and segments were plated on potato dextrose agar (PDA) amended with 50 mg/liter of streptomycin sulfate and incubated at 25°C for 3 days. The fungus Hyphodermella rosae (Bresadola) Nakasone was consistently isolated (37 isolates from 79 samples) and identified on the basis of morphological characteristics on PDA. Basidiomata were effuse, resupinate, 15 × 10 mm, crustaceous, tubercules small with apical bristles, and light orange to grayish orange. Subhymenium was up to 30 μm thick, composed of vertically arranged, short-celled, nonagglutinated hyphae; subhymenial hyphae were 3 to 4 μm in diameter. Basidiospores were ellipsoid, 7.5 to 8.5 × 4.5 to 5.5 μm (100 determination), and their cell walls were thin, hyaline, and smooth (1). Genomic DNA was extracted from mycelium with a DNA extraction kit (Qiagen, Hilden, Germany) according to the manufacturer's directions and grown on potato dextrose broth for 4 days at 28°C. The rDNA region was amplified with the primers ITS4 (5'-TCCTCCGCTTATTGATATGC-3') and ITS5 (5'- GGAAGTAAAAGTCGTAACAA-3') (4) and the PCR product was sequenced. Nucleotide BLAST analysis of the amplified 627-bp fragment confirmed a 99% similarity with the sequence of H. rosae (GenBank Accession No. JN593086). A pathogenicity test was conducted with isolate MA4099 by placing 5-day-old mycelial plugs grown on PDA at the surface of healthy fruit (n = 6) incubated under >85% RH at 25°C for at least 4 days until the appearance of symptoms, which were similar to those displayed under orchard conditions. Control fruits, inoculated with blocks of PDA plugs, remained intact and symptomless. Reisolation from inoculated fruit samples consistently yielded the inoculated fungus, completing Koch's postulates. The genus Hyphodermella has been reported to be causing wood rot on apricot (2) and sweet and sour cherry (3). Abstract
Visceral Leishmania (VL) with diverse clinical manifestation is prevalent and remains a major public health problem in Iran. This study was performed in Ahwaz, Khozestan province southwest to increase immune system and to reduce of the renal lesions. Treatment of dogs with visceral leishmaniosis is basically the same as the treatment of human. However, cure is not usually achieved, leaving the sacrifice of animal as the only feasible choice. The goal of this work was to test the therapeutic efficacy of N-methyl glutamic antimoate (glucnime), Mycobacterium vaccae adjuvant (SRL 172), alone and in association with L. major promastigote and the latter compound in association to glucantime, in dog with visceral leishmaniasis. In this trial 18, mixed bred dogs with different ages, receiving amastigte promastigote of L. infantum intravenously were used. They were monitored for 6 months. Serologic assays (Elisa, Dot and IFAT) were performed on blood samples of each animal. The animals were divided into six groups, each having 3 dogs: Group 1: receiving 100 mg kg(-1) day(-1) Glucantime for 30 days, IM. Group 2: Receiving 3 mg dog(-1) (0.1 mL) of Mycobacterium vaccae adjuvant suspension intradermaly. Group 3: receiving L. major promastigote plus M. vaccae adjuvant each of them 0.1 mL intradermaly by one month intervals for 3 months. Group 4: receiving Glucantime in association L. major promastigote plus M. vaccae adjuvant with previous doses. Group 5: Receiving no treatment. Group 6: was control group with no infection and treatment. In microscopic evaluation following lesions have been shown in kidney: Chronic, interstitial nephritis, sever glomerulosclerosis, membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis and also non suppurative nephritis were the lesions in 5 groups. The prescription of Mycobacterium vaccae adjurant was able to reduce the number of parasites in the macrophages of liver and spleen in this round of treatment.
