Abstract
To investigate the HPV vaccine coverage and post-vaccination adverse reactions in Gansu Province, Western China, from 2018 to 2021. Data on suspected adverse reactions to HPV vaccines were collected from the Chinese Vaccine Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI). Estimate the incidence rates of Common Adverse Reaction and Rare Adverse Reaction. HPV vaccine coverage among females in different age groups was calculated using data from the Gansu Provincial Immunization Information Platform. The first-dose HPV vaccine coverage rate among females aged 9 to 45 was 2.02%, with the lowest rate of less than 1% observed in females aged 9 to 14. From 2018 to 2021, the incidence rates of Common Adverse Reaction and Rare Adverse Reaction reported in females after HPV vaccination were 11.82 and 0.39 per 100,000 doses, respectively. Common Adverse Reaction included fever (5.52 per 100,000 doses), local redness and swelling (3.33 per 100,000 doses), fatigue (3.15 per 100,000 doses), headache (2.76 per 100,000 doses), as well as local induration and nausea/vomiting (1.97 per 100,000 doses). Adverse reactions mainly occurred within 1 day after vaccination, followed by 1 to 3 days after vaccination. The HPV vaccine coverage rate among females aged 9 to 14 in Gansu Province is remarkably low, and there is an urgent need to enhance vaccine coverage. From 2018 to 2021, the incidence of Adverse reaction Following Immunization HPV vaccination fell within the expected range, indicating the vaccine's safety profile.

Abstract
Hypoxia is an important characteristic of Tibetan plateau environment. It can lead to apoptosis, but the mechanism of apoptosis caused by hypoxic stress needs further clarification. Here, cattle kidney cell MDBK were used as cell model. The effect of hypoxic stress on apoptosis and its molecular mechanism were explored. MDBK cells were treated with hypoxic stress, apoptosis and mitochondrial apoptotic pathway were significantly increased, and the expression of B-cell lymphoma 6 (BCL6) was significantly decreased. Overexpressing or inhibiting BCL6 demonstrated that BCL6 inhibited the apoptosis. And the increase of apoptosis controlled by hypoxic stress was blocked by BCL6 overexpressing. MDBK cells were treated with hypoxic stress, the expression and the nuclear localization of p53 were significantly increased. Overexpressing or inhibiting p53 demonstrated that hypoxic stress suppressed the expression of BCL6 through p53. Together, these results indicated that hypoxic stress induced the apoptosis of MDBK cells, and BCL6 was an important negative factor for this regulation process. In MDBK cells, hypoxic stress suppressed the expression of BCL6 through p53/BCL6-mitochondrial apoptotic pathway. This study enhanced current understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the regulation of apoptosis by hypoxic stress in MDBK cells.

Abstract
A series of influential articles suggests that obesity may spread between couples, siblings, and close friends via an obesity contagion phenomenon. Classmates, as important structural equivalents in one's social network, may experience obesity contagion. However, this has rarely been examined. Anthropometric measurements, questionnaire surveys, and geographic information were collected from 3670 children from 26 schools in Northeast China. We found that classmates were positively related in terms of body mass index (BMI), body fat, physical activity, and intake of vegetables, fruits, fast food, snacks, and sugar-sweetened beverages. One standard deviation (SD) increase in classmates' mean BMI and percentage body fat was associated with 0.19 SD higher individual BMI (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.00, 0.39) and 0.31 SD higher percentage body fat (95% CI: 0.13, 0.48). Coefficients ranged from 0.48 to 0.76 in models for physical activity, and the dietary intake of vegetables, fruit, fast food, snacks, and sugar-sweetened beverages. Children's BMI and body fat were more strongly associated with the maximum and minimum body fat levels of their same-sex classmates than with those of their general classmates. Their dietary intake and physical activity were more strongly associated with the mean/median levels of their general classmates than with those of their same-sex classmates. This study suggests that children's BMI, body fat, physical activity, and dietary intake may be related to those of their classmates. Modeling healthy behaviors in the classroom may help children develop habits that support achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. Future interventions should consider the inclusion of classmates as a social network strategy for obesity prevention.

Abstract
Exploring the electrocatalysts with high intrinsic activity and stability for both anode and cathode to tolerate the extremely acidic condition in proton exchange membrane water electrolyzer (PEMWE) is crucial for widespread industrial application. Herein, we constructed the bifunctional IrCox nanoalloys with abundant metal vacancies via the combination of chemical reduction and electrochemical treatment for overall water splitting. The developed IrCo0.13 exhibits ultra-low overpotentials of 238 mV for OER and 18.6 mV for HER at 10 mA cm-2 in 0.1 M HClO4, and achieves the exceptional stability of 1000 h for OER and 100 h for HER at 10 mA cm-2. Further, the cell voltage is only 1.68 V to reach a high current density of 1 A cm-2 in PEMWE with IrCo0.13 as the both cathode and anode catalytic layer, and it shows excellent corrosion resistance in acidic environment, evidenced by 415 h stable operation at 1 A cm-2. The strong electronic interactions in the Ir-Co atomic heterostructure and the in-situ generation of Co vacancies by electrochemical oxidation synergistically contribute to the enhanced activity and stability via optimizing the electronic structure of adjacent Ir active sites, enhancing the conductivity and electrochemical active surface area of the catalyst, accelerating charge transfer and kinetics. This work provides a new perspective for designing bifunctional catalysts for practical application in PEMWE.

Abstract
Skin cancer is a critical global public health concern, with melanoma being the deadliest variant, correlated to 80% of skin cancer-related deaths and a remarkable propensity to metastasize. Despite notable progress in skin cancer prevention and diagnosis, the limitations of existing methods accentuate the demand for precise diagnostic tools. Biosensors have emerged as valuable clinical tools, enabling rapid and reliable point-of-care (POC) testing of skin cancer. This review offers insights into skin cancer development, highlights essential cutaneous melanoma biomarkers, and assesses the current landscape of biosensing technologies for diagnosis. The comprehensive analysis in this review underscores the transformative potential of biosensors in revolutionizing melanoma skin cancer diagnosis, emphasizing their critical role in advancing patient outcomes and healthcare efficiency. The increasing availability of these approaches supports direct diagnosis and aims to reduce the reliance on biopsies, enhancing POC diagnosis. Recent advancements in biosensors for skin cancer diagnosis hold great promise, with their integration into healthcare expected to enhance early detection accuracy and reliability, thereby mitigating socioeconomic disparities.

Abstract
Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is perceived an emerging threat to terrestrial ecosystem, however, clear and accurate studies to fully understander ecotoxicity and underlying mechanisms of DEHP on the soil fauna remain poorly understood. Therefore, this study conducted a microcosm experiment of two earthworm ecotypes to investigate the ecological hazards of DHEP from multiple perspectives. The results showed that DEHP significantly increased the 8-hydroxy-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) content both in Eisenia foetida (13.76-133.0%) and Metaphire guillelmi (11.01-49.12%), leading to intracellular DNA damage. Meanwhile, DEHP negatively affected the expression of functional genes (ATP-6, NADH1, COX), which may be detrimental to mitochondrial respiration and oxidative stress at the gene level. The two earthworm guts shared analogous dominant bacteria however, the incorporation of DEHP drastically suppressed the homogeneity and diversity of the gut microbes, which further disrupted the homeostasis of the gut microbial ecological network. The keystone species in the gut of E. foetida decreased under DEHP stress but increased in the gut of M. guillelmi. Moreover, DEHP presented detrimental effects on soil enzyme activity, which is mainly associated with pollutant levels and earthworm activity. Collectively, the findings expand the understanding of soil ecological health and reveal the underlying mechanisms of the potential exposure risk to DEHP.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE An important part of Norwegian welfare policy is to provide subsidized orthodontic treatment for children and adolescents. The objective of this policy is that dental services should be allocated according to children's need for treatment, and not according to parents' ability to pay. The probability of receiving orthodontic treatment independent of parent's household income was examined. METHODS The study population encompassed children and adolescents aged 10-18 years in 2019 (n = 354 439). Information about whether they had started orthodontic treatment was obtained from the Norwegian Health Economics Administration. The key independent variable was net equalized household income. Inequalities were measured using concentration indices, which were estimated according to the severity of the malocclusion (very great need, great need, obvious need and no need). Two indices were used to measure relative inequality: the unstandardized concentration index and the partial concentration index. Absolute inequality was measured using the corrected concentration index. Relevant control variables were included in some of the analyses. RESULTS The unstandardized indices were in the range 0.04 (very great need) to 0.05 (obvious need). For all three groups of severity, the 95% confidence intervals overlapped. The values of the partial indices were significantly lower than the values of the unstandardized indices. The partial indices were in the range 0.008 (very great need) to 0.03 (obvious need). The 95% confidence intervals for the partial indices did not overlap with the 95% confidence intervals of the unstandardized indices. For all three groups of severity, the indices that measured absolute inequality were close to zero. CONCLUSIONS It is possible to achieve the egalitarian aim of equality in service provision by subsidizing orthodontic treatment. This is possible within a system where the cost of orthodontic treatment is reimbursed according to the criteria of need. These criteria function in such a way that patients with the greatest need for orthodontic treatment are given the highest priority.

Abstract
Aeromonas jandaei is a gram-negative bacterium commonly found in aquatic environments and can induce illnesses in amphibians, reptiles and aquatic animals. In this study, a strain of bacteria was isolated from the diseased Chinese soft-shell turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis), then named strain JDP-FX. This isolate was identified as A. jandaei after analysis of morphological, physiological and biochemical characteristics, as well as 16S rRNA and gyrB gene sequences. Virulence genetic testing further detected temperature-sensitive protease (eprCAI), type III secretion system (TTSS) (ascv), nuclease (nuc), cytotonic enterotoxin (alt) and serine proteinase (ser) in JDP-FX. Compared with healthy Chinese soft-shell turtle, the serum levels of total protein (TP), albumin (ALB) and globulin (GLB) were significantly decreased in the diseased Chinese soft-shell turtle, while, the levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were significantly increased. Histopathological observations showed that multiple tissues, including intestinal mucosa, liver and kidney, were severely damaged in the diseased Chinese soft-shell turtle. Moreover, the diseased Chinese soft-shell turtle had significant cell degeneration, necrosis, sloughing and interstitial inflammatory cell infiltration. The pathogenicity of JDP-FX was tested via artificial infection. The median lethal dosage (LD50 ) of the strain was 1.05 × 105 colony forming units (CFU/g) per weight of Chinese soft-shell turtle. Drug susceptibility analysis revealed that JDP-FX was susceptible to ceftazidime, minocycline, cefoperazone, ceftriaxone and piperacillin. In addition, JDP-FX was resistant to doxycycline, florfenicol, sulfonamides, gentamicin, ampicillin and neomycin. Therefore, this study may provide guidance for further research into the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of JDP-FX infection.

Abstract
In the field of qualitative decision making with hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTSs), distance measure (DM) is a significant concept that reflects the degree of difference between HFLTSs. Various DMs among HFLTSs have been proposed, which enhance the applicability of HFLTSs in multicriteria decision making (MCDM) under qualitative hesitation information. However, existing strategies not only have their own pros and cons but also fail to measure linguistic assessments from multiple linguistic term sets with different distributions (i.e., multigranular unbalanced linguistic information). In this article, we first propose a new strict DM between two hesitant fuzzy linguistic elements (HFLEs) based on the Wasserstein distance of their semantics intervals. Then, two novel kinds of DMs (Euclidean and Chebyshev forms) for HFLTSs are proposed and their strictness is proved. Weighted and ordered weighted versions of HFLTSs based on Euclidean form are derived. Afterward, illustrative examples, simulations, and related analyses are given to demonstrate the rationality of the proposals. Finally, two cases are applied to verify the efficiency and practicality of the novel measures in real life.

Abstract
Due to glioblastoma (GBM) being the most intractable brain tumor, the continuous improvement of effective treatment methods is indispensable. The combination of siRNA-based gene therapy and chemotherapy for GBM treatment has now manifested great promise. Herein, Gint4.T-siHDGF chimera-capped mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) encapsulating chemotherapy drug temozolomide (TMZ), termed as TMSN@siHDGF-Gint4.T, is developed to co-deliver gene-drug siHDGF and TMZ for synergistic GBM therapy. TMSN@siHDGF-Gint4.T possesses spherical nucleic acid-like architecture that can improve the enzyme resistance of siHDGF and increase the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability of the nanovehicle. The aptamer Gint4.T of chimera endows the nanovehicle with GBM cell-specific binding ability. When administered systemically, TMSN@siHDGF-Gint4.T can traverse BBB and enter GBM cells. In the acidic lysosome environment, the cleavage of benzoic-imine bond on MSN surface leads to an initial rapid release of chimera, followed by a slow release of TMZ encapsulated in MSN. The sequential release of siHDGF and TMZ first allows siHDGF to exert its gene-silencing effect, and the downregulation of HDGF expression further enhances the cytotoxicity of TMZ. In vivo experimental results have demonstrated that TMSN@siHDGF-Gint4.T significantly inhibits tumor growth and extends the survival time of GBM-bearing mice. Thus, the as-developed TMSN@siHDGF-Gint4.T affords a potential approach for the combination treatment of GBM.

Abstract
AIM To develop a radiomics signature applied to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-images to predict cytogenetic abnormalities in multiple myeloma (MM). MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients with newly diagnosed MM were enrolled retrospectively from March 2019 to September 2022. They were categorised into the high-risk cytogenetics (HRC) group and standard-risk cytogenetics (SRC) group. The patients were allocated randomly at a ratio of 7:3 into training and validation cohorts. Volumes of interest (VOI) was drawn manually on fat suppression T2-weighted imaging (FS-T2WI) and copied to the same location of the T1-weighted imaging (T1WI) sequence. Radiomics features were extracted from two sequences and selected by reproducibility and redundant analysis. The least absolute shrinkage selection operation (LASSO) algorithm was applied to build the radiomics signatures. The performance of the radiomics signatures to distinguish HRC with SRC was evaluated by ROC curves. The area under the curve (AUC), specificity, and sensitivity were also calculated. RESULTS A total of 105 MM patients were enrolled in this study. The four and 11 most significant and relevant features were selected separately from T1WI and FS-T2WI sequences to build the radiomics signatures based on the training cohort. Compared to the T1WI sequence, the radiomics signature based on the FS-T2WI sequence achieved better performance with AUCs of 0.896 and 0.729 in the training and validation cohorts respectively. A sensitivity of 0.833, specificity of 0.667, and Youden index of 0.500 were achieved for the FS-T2WI radiomics signature in the validation cohort. CONCLUSIONS The radiomics signature based on MRI provides a non-invasive and convenient tool to predict cytogenetic abnormalities in MM patients.

Abstract
Generation of renewable and clean electricity energy from ubiquitous moisture for the power supply of portable electronic devices has become one of the most promising energy collection methods. However, the modest electrical output and transient power supply characteristics of existing moist-electric generator (MEG) severely limit its commercial application, leading to an urgent demand of developing a MEG with high electrical output and continuous power generation capacity. In this work, it is demonstrated that a flexible bacterial cellulose (BC)/Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) double-layer (BM-dl) film prepared by vacuum filtration can maintain the moisture concentration difference in the film MEG. Unlike previous studies on cellulose based MEG, BM-dl film has a heterogeneous structure, resulting in a maximum output power density of 0.163 μW/cm2, an extreme voltage of 0.84 V, and current of 2.21 μA at RH = 90 %. BM-dl MEG can generate a voltage of 0.55 V continuously for 45 h in a natural environment (RH = 63-77 %, T = 26-27 °C), which is in a leading level among existing reported cellulose-based MEGs. In summary, this study provides new ideas for innovative design of MEG, which is highly competitive in terms of energy supply for the Internet of Things and wearable devices.

Abstract
Contact lens sensors have been emerging as point-of-care devices in recent healthcare developments for ocular physiological condition monitoring and diagnosis. Fluorescence sensing technologies have been widely applied in contact lens sensors due to their accuracy, high sensitivity, and specificity. As ascorbic acid (AA) level in tears is closely related to ocular inflammation, a fluorescent contact lens sensor incorporating a BSA-Au nanocluster (NC) probe is developed for in situ tear AA detection. The NCs are firstly synthesized to obtain a fluorescent probe, which exhibits high reusability through the quench/recover (KMnO4/AA) process. The probe is then encapsulated with 15 wt% of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and 1.5 wt% of citric acid (CA) film, and implemented on a closed microfluidic contact lens sensing region. The laser-ablated microfluidic channel in contact lens sensors allows for tear fluid to flow through the sensing region, enabling an in-situ detection of AA. Meanwhile, a smartphone application accompanied by a customized 3D printed readout box is developed for image caption and algorism to quantitative analysis of AA levels. The contact lens sensor is tested within the readout box and the emission signal is collected through the smartphone camera at room temperature with an achieved LOD of 0.178 mmol L-1 (0.0-1.2 mmol L-1). The operational and storage lifetime is also evaluated to characterize the sensor properties and resulted in 20 h and 10 days, respectively. The reusable AA contact lens sensor is promising to lead to an alternative accessible diagnostic method for ocular inflammation in point-of-care settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Telomeres are unique structures situated at the ends of chromosomes. Preserving the structure and function of telomeres is essential for maintaining genomic stability and promoting genetic diversity during male meiosis in mammals. MATERIAL-METHODS This review compiled recent literature on the function and regulation of telomeres during male meiosis in both mice and humans, and also highlighted the critical roles of telomeres in reproductive biology and medicine. RESULTS-DISCUSSION Various structures, consisting of the LINC complex (SUN-KASH), SPDYA-CDK2, TTM trimer (TERB1-TERB2-MAJIN), and shelterin, are critical in controlling telomeric activities, such as nuclear envelope attachment and bouquet formation. Other than telomere-related proteins, cohesins and genes responsible for regulating telomere function are also highlighted, though the exact mechanism remains unclear. The gene-mutant mouse models with meiotic defects directly reveal the essential roles of telomeres in male meiosis. Recently reported mutant genes associated with telomere activity in clinical practice have also been illustrated in detail. CONCLUSIONS Proper regulation of telomere activities is essential for male meiosis progression in mice and humans.

Abstract
As an emerging environmental contaminant, di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is widely present in the aquatic environment, however, the effects and underlying mechanisms of DEHP on the aquatic organisms are poorly understood. This study systematically investigated the ecotoxicity induced by chronic exposure to environmental relevant concentrations of DEHP (0.03mg/L, 0.1mg/L, and 0.3mg/L) on zebrafish brain. Results indicated that DEHP exposure significantly increased the levels of ROS and disturbance of the antioxidant enzymes activities in the brain, which may further enhance lipid peroxidation and DNA damage. Furthermore, acetylcholinesterase activity was first stimulated and inhibited by exposure to DEHP, and the antioxidant and apoptosis related genes were mainly upregulated. Risk assessment indicated that the ecotoxicity of DEHP on the zebrafish showed an "enhancement-reduction" trend as the exposure time was prolonged. Overall, these results provided new insights and useful information to ecological risk assessment and environmental management of DEHP pollution.

Abstract
A novel triple helical-like complex [Dy2K2L3(NO3)2]·3DMF (1) based on a designed Schiff base N'1,N'3-bis((E)-3-ethoxy-2-hydroxybenzylidene)-malonohydrazide (H4L) was synthesized with good chemical and thermal stabilities. Single-crystal X-ray structural analysis showed that 1 presents a tetranuclear triple helical-like structure via the coordination mode of Dy : K : L with 2 : 2 : 3 stoichiometry. Fluorescence measurements showed that 1@EtOH has excellent fluorescence turn-on/off response ability for aluminium ions and 4,5-dimethyl-2-nitroaniline (DMNA) with outstanding selectivity, sensitivity, and anti-interference ability. The calculated limit of detection (LOD) values for 1@EtOH to Al3+ and DMNA were found to be 0.53 and 3.33 μM, respectively. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation showed that the fluorescence response mechanism can be explained by the photoinduced electron transfer (PET) mechanism; meanwhile, the inner filter effect (IFE) of DMNA can also affect the emission of 1@EtOH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND While negative life events (NLEs) have been linked to an increased risk of sleep disturbance among adolescents, the mechanisms of this impact still lack further examination. The current study aimed to explore whether intolerance of uncertainty (IU), a dispositional transdiagnostic vulnerability factor for psychopathology, could act as a mediator and/or moderator in the link from NLEs to sleep disturbance. METHODS A longitudinal nested subsample of 54,240 Chinese adolescents (aged 9-19) were surveyed at baseline (Timepoint 1) and six months later (Timepoint 2). They completed questionnaires to assess their IU, NLEs, sleep disturbance and sociodemographic characteristics. Mediation and moderation analyses were conducted to test our hypotheses. RESULTS Upon adjusting for covariates, IU was found to mediate the relationship between NLEs and residual changes in sleep disturbance over a six-month period, with the mediation effect accounting for 31.8%. Additionally, the moderating role of IU in this relationship was also identified, suggesting that a high level of IU exacerbated the effect of NLEs on sleep disturbance. CONCLUSIONS In conclusion, our findings shed light on the dual roles of IU in the link from NLEs to sleep disturbance, holding significant practical implications for preventing and intervening in sleep disturbance among adolescents. To mitigate the risk of sleep disturbance among adolescents experiencing NLEs, timely assessments of IU and tailored interventions to enhance uncertainty tolerance are necessary.

Abstract
The research on the impact of water-soluble polymers (WSPs) on the migration and fate of plastic particles is extremely limited. This article explored the effects of polyacrylic acid (PAA, a common WSP) and physicochemical factors on the transport of polystyrene nanoparticles (PSNPs-NH2/COOH) with different functional groups in QS (quartz sand) and FOS (goethite-modified quartz sand, simulates mineral colloids). Research has shown that PAA can selectively adsorb onto the surface of PSNPs-NH2, forming ecological corona heterogeneous aggregates. This process increased the spatial hindrance and elastic repulsion, resulting in the recovery of PSNPs-NH2 always exceeding that of PSNPs-COOH. Overall, PAA can hinder the migration of PSNPs in QS but can promote their migration in FOS. When multivalent cations coexist with PAA, the transport of PSNPs in the media is primarily affected by cation bridging and CH-cation-π interaction. The presence of oxyanions and PAA prevents PSNPs from following the Hofmeister rule and promotes their migration (PO43-: 82.34 ± 0.16% to 94.63 ± 2.82%>SO42-: 81.38 ± 2.73% to 91.15 ± 0.93%>NO3-: 55.85 ± 0.70%-87.16 ± 3.80%). The findings of this study contribute significantly to a better understanding of the migration of WSPs and group-modified NPs in complex saturated porous media.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ionic calcium (Ca2+) plays a crucial role in maintaining normal physiological and biochemical functions within the human body. Detecting the concentration of Ca2+ is of utmost significance for various purposes, including disease screening, cellular metabolism research, and evaluating drug effectiveness. However, current detection approaches such as fluorescence and colorimetry face limitations due to complex labeling techniques and the inability to track changes in Ca2+ concentration. In recent years, extensive research has been conducted in this field to explore label-free and efficient approaches. RESULTS In this study, a novel light-addressed potentiometric sensor (LAPS) using silicon-on-sapphire technology, has been successfully developed for Ca2+ sensing. The Ca2+-sensitive LAPS achieved a wide-range detection of Ca2+, ranging from 10-2 M to 10-7 M, with an impressive detection limit of 100 nM. These advancements are attributed to the ultra-thin silicon layer, silicon dioxide layer, and solid-state silicon rubber sensitive membrane around 6 μm. Furthermore, the sensor demonstrated the ability to dynamically monitor fluctuations in Ca2+ concentration ranging from 10-9 M to 10-2 M within a solution. Its remarkable selectivity, specificity, and long-term stability have facilitated its successful application in the detection of Ca2+ in human serum and urine. SIGNIFICANCE AND NOVELTY This work presents a Ca2+-sensitive sensor that combines a low detection limit and a wide detection range. The development represents the emergence of a label-free and rapid Ca2+ detection tool with immense prospects in home-based health monitoring, community disease screening, as well as cellular metabolism, and drug screening evaluations.

Abstract
Anti-glomerular basement membrane (GBM) disease is a small-vessel vasculitis that represents the most aggressive form of autoimmune glomerulonephritis. The study aimed to investigate the prevalence, clinical characteristics, risk factors, and outcomes of anti-GBM disease through a systematic review and meta-analysis involving 47 studies with 2830 patients. The overall incidence of anti-GBM disease ranged from 0.60 to 1.79 per million population per annum. In rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis and crescentic glomerulonephritis, the pooled incidence rates were 8.0% and 12.8%, respectively. The pooled prevalence rates of anti-GBM antibodies, antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA), and lung hemorrhage were 88.8%, 27.4%, and 32.6%, respectively. Patients with combined ANCA positivity demonstrated a prognosis comparable to those patients with only anti-GBM antibodies, though with differing clinical features. The pooled one-year patient and kidney survival rates were 76.2% and 30.2%, respectively. Kidney function on diagnosis and normal glomeruli percentage were identified as strong prognostic factors. This study represents the first comprehensive meta-analysis on anti-GBM disease, providing insights into its management. However, caution is warranted in interpreting some results due to the observational nature of the included studies and high heterogeneity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To investigate the role of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPLs) in the disease severity and prognosis of SLE-related thrombocytopenia (SLE-TP). METHODS This multicenter prospective study was conducted based on data from the CSTAR registry. TP was defined as a platelet count<100 × 109/L. Demographic characteristics, platelet count, clinical manifestations, disease activity, and autoantibody profiles were collected at baseline. Relapse was defined as the loss of remission. Bone marrow aspirate reports were also collected. RESULTS A total of 350 SLE-TP patients with complete follow-up data, 194 (55.4%) were aPLs positive. At baseline, SLE-TP patients with aPLs had lower baseline platelet counts (61.0 × 109/L vs. 76.5 × 109/L, P<0.001), and a higher proportion of moderate to severe cases (24.2% vs. 14.1% ; 18.0% vs. 8.3%, P<0.001). SLE-TP patients with aPLs also had lower platelet counts at their lowest point (37.0 × 109/L vs. 51.0 × 109/L, P = 0.002). In addition, thean increasing number of aPLs types was associated with a decrease in the baseline and minimum values of platelets ( P<0.001, P = 0.001). During follow-up, SLE-TP carrying aPLs had a higher relapse rate (58.2% vs. 44.2%, P = 0.009) and a lower complete response (CR) rate. As the types of aPLs increased, the relapse rate increased, and the CR rate decreased. Furthermore, there was no significant difference in the ratio of granulocytes to red blood cells (G/E), the total number of megakaryocyte and categories. CONCLUSION SLE-TP patients with positive aPLs had more severe disease a lower remission rate but a higher relapse rate.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the genetic etiology for a Chinese pedigree affected with Treacher-Collins syndrome (TCS) through whole exome sequencing (WES). METHODS A TCS pedigree which was diagnosed at the Women and Children's Hospital Affiliated to Qingdao University on February 5, 2020 was selected as the study subject. Following collection of clinical data, WES was carried out. Candidate variant was validated through Sanger sequencing and bioinformatic analysis. RESULTS The WES results showed that the proband has harbored a heterozygous c.3337C>T variant of the TCOF1 gene, and Sanger sequencing confirmed that his mother and brother also carried the same variant. Based on guidelines from the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG), the variant was predicted as pathogenic (PVS1+PM2_Supporting+PP4). CONCLUSION The heterozygous c.3337C>T variant of the TCOF1 gene probably underlay the pathogenesis of TCS in this pedigree.

Abstract
Platelets engaged in HIV-1 infection by interacting with immune cells, which has been realized broadly. However, the potential interaction between platelets and CD8⁺ T cells remains unidentified. Here, treatment-naïve individuals with HIV-1 (TNs), complete immunological responders to antiretroviral therapy (CRs), and healthy controls (HCs) were enrolled. Firstly, we found that TNs had low platelet numbers and high CD8⁺ T cell counts when compared with CRs and HCs, leading to low platelet/CD8⁺ T cell ratio in peripheral blood which could effectively differentiate the status of HIV-1 infection. Moreover, cytokines that may be derived from platelets were higher in the plasma of people with HIV-1 despite viral suppression. Furthermore, we demonstrated that platelet-CD8⁺ T cell aggregates were elevated in TNs, which positively correlated with HIV-1 viral load, but negatively correlated with CD4⁺ T cell count and CD4/CD8 ratio. Finally, we revealed that platelet-CD8⁺ T cell aggregates with enhanced activation/exhaustion and pyroptosis/apoptosis than free CD8⁺ T cells. Moreover, platelets-induced caspase-1 activation of CD8⁺ T cells correlated with IL-1β and IL-18 plasma levels. In brief, we revealed the importance of platelets in HIV-1 infection, which might secrete more cytokines, and might mediate CD8⁺ T cell phenotypic characteristics by forming platelet-CD8⁺ T cell aggregates which were related to poor prognosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Quitting support from smokers' partners can predict quit attempts and smoking abstinence but research on factors that predict such support has been limited. To add more evidence for partner support and the improved interventions for smoking cessation, we analyzed some new potential predictors of quitting support from smokers' spouses. METHOD This cross-sectional study was conducted in in 2022 and 2023, selecting the students' families in which fathers smoked and mothers didn't smoke from grade 1-5 of 13 primary schools in Qingdao, China. Parents who met the criteria completed the online questionnaires and 1018 families were included in the analysis. We measured personal information related to smokers and their spouses such as age, education and nicotine dependence, and variables related to family and marital relationship such as family functioning, perceived responsiveness and power in decision-making of quitting smoking. Quitting support from smokers' spouses was measured by Partner Interaction Questionnaire and generalized linear model was used to explore the potential predictors of partner support. RESULTS In this study, the mean age of smokers was 39.97(SD = 5.57) and the mean age of smokers' spouses was 38.24(SD = 4.59). The regression analysis showed that for smokers and their spouses, the older age groups showed the lower ratio of positive/negative support(P < 0.05) and smokers with high education showed the less positive and negative partner support(P < 0.05). Nicotine dependence was positively associated with negative support (β = 0.120, P < 0.01), and perceived responsiveness (β = 0.124, P < 0.05) as well as family functioning (β = 0.059, P < 0.05) was positively associated with positive support. These three factors were associated with ratio of positive/negative support(P < 0.05). In addition, power of smoker's spouse in decision-making of quitting smoking was positively associated with the positive (β = 0.087, P < 0.001) and negative support (β = 0.084, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Nicotine dependence, family functioning, power in decision-making of quitting smoking and perceived responsiveness were found to be the predictors of quitting support from smokers' spouses. By incorporating predictors of partner support and integrating some established theories that can improve family functioning and marital relationships, smoking cessation interventions can be further improved.

Abstract
Online fitness training, with its affordability and flexibility, offers a convenient way for individuals to engage in regular workouts that promote physical and mental health. Yet, learning fitness motions in this way presents various challenges and may not always be as effective as in-person training. To address the practical demands of motion learning, we conducted a systematic survey and accordingly proposed a four-stage self-learning genre that integrates immersive virtual reality (VR) environments with motion skill learning theories, strategies, and expert experience. Herein, we merged progressive structures and multi-level visual cues to enhance instruction, and proposed a fine-grained motion analysis method to provide adaptive correction feedback during training. Utilizing a Taichi training platform with the genre embedded, we systematically validated the effectiveness of the genre, and examined the potential impact of VR content presentation form on motion learning among different age groups, as well as their preferences and focus on VR fitness training genre design. Results from the quantitative analysis, qualitative evaluation, and case study showed that the 360° video-based VR content brought more positive motion learning performance and user experiences than the fully-simulated VR used in many previous studies. The proposed genre demonstrated outstandingly performance, experience, and usability, with each stage and design playing an effective role. Moreover, we offer several design considerations for VR fitness systems targeting diverse age groups, providing beneficial insights for VR development in the sports and health-related fields.

Abstract
The NF-Y gene family in plants plays a crucial role in numerous biological processes, encompassing hormone response, stress response, as well as growth and development. In this study, we first used bioinformatics techniques to identify members of the NF-YA family that may function in wood formation. We then used molecular biology techniques to investigate the role and molecular mechanism of PtrNF-YA6 in secondary cell wall (SCW) formation in Populus trichocarpa. We found that PtrNF-YA6 protein was localized in the nucleus and had no transcriptional activating activity. Overexpression of PtrNF-YA6 had an inhibitory effect on plant growth and development and significantly suppressed hemicellulose synthesis and SCW thickening in transgenic plants. Yeast one-hybrid and ChIP-PCR assays revealed that PtrNF-YA6 directly regulated the expression of hemicellulose synthesis genes (PtrGT47A-1, PtrGT8C, PtrGT8F, PtrGT43B, PtrGT47C, PtrGT8A and PtrGT8B). In conclusion, PtrNF-YA6 can inhibit plant hemicellulose synthesis and SCW thickening by regulating the expression of downstream SCW formation-related target genes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the world's population steadily shifting toward urban living, children's engagement with the natural environment seems to be diminishing. This raises significant concerns about the influence of urban greenspaces on the cardiovascular health of children. OBJECTIVE To assess the association between urban greenspaces exposure and blood pressure (BP) in Chinese primary schoolchildren. METHODS This prospective cohort study used data from the Children's growth environment, lifestyle, physical, and mental health development (COHERENCE) project in Guangzhou, China. Participants included 164,853 primary schoolchildren starting from 2016/17 to 2019/20 academic year. We assessed the surrounding greenspaces at home and school by using Sentinel-2 satellite data on the normalized difference vegetation index. Prehypertension and hypertension status were defined with BP above 90th to less than the 95th percentile, at or above the 95th percentile, respectively. The association of surrounding greenness with children's BP levels and risk of prehypertension/hypertension were examined using linear mixed-effects models and Cox proportional hazards model. RESULTS Among 164,853 eligible children aged 7.21 (0.74) years, 89,190 (54.1%) were boys. Our results showed that average systolic and diastolic BP increased by 0.48 and 0.42 standard deviations, respectively, over the 3-year follow-up. We identified 23,225 new cases of prehypertension and 35,067 of hypertension status. An interquartile range increase both in home-, school- and home-school NDVI100m was significantly associated with a reduction of 0.018-0.037 in BP z-scores and a 2.7%-7.6% lower risk of hypertension. Additionally, family socioeconomic status modified the impact of home-school greenness on BP levels. Air pollution exhibited mediating effects solely in school-greenness-BP associations, while physical activity and children's BMI mainly mediated the relationships between home-greenness and BP. CONCLUSION The findings of this large cohort study suggest that surrounding greenspaces are associated with lower BP levels and a decreased risk of prehypertension and hypertension in Chinese schoolchildren.

Abstract
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ), composed of temporal fossa, mandibular condyle and a fibrocartilage disc with upper and lower cavities, is the biggest synovial joint and biomechanical hinge of the craniomaxillofacial musculoskeletal system. The initial events that give rise to TMJ cavities across diverse species are not fully understood. Most studies focus on the pivotal role of molecules such as Indian hedgehog (Ihh) and hyaluronic acid (HA) in TMJ cavitation. Although biologists have observed that mechanical stress plays an irreplaceable role in the development of biological tissues and organs, few studies have been concerned with how mechanical stress regulates TMJ cavitation. Based on the evidence from human or other animal embryos today, it is implicated that mechanical stress plays an essential role in TMJ cavitation. In this review, we discuss the relationship between mechanical stress and TMJ cavitation from evo-devo perspectives and review the clinical features and potential pathogenesis of TMJ dysplasia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To review the incidence and extent of peri-electrode edema after DBS and to clarify the effect of postoperative use of steroids on the peri-electrode edema. METHODS This retrospective cohort study included 250 patients who underwent bilateral subthalamic nucleus (STN) DBS surgery with intact MRI within 1 month after DBS surgery. Patients were divided into steroid and non-steroid groups, based on postoperative steroids use. The occurrence and extent of peri-electrode edema were compared between the two groups, and other associated factors were analyzed using univariate and multivariate methods. RESULTS Peri-electrode edema >1 cm3 in at least one hemisphere was reported in 215 (86.00%) patients. The mean volume of peri-electrode edema observed in the steroid group was significantly smaller than in the non-steroid group (8.09 ± 8.47 cm3 vs 17.10 ± 16.90 cm3 , p < 0.001). In the steroid group, 104 (32.91%) of the 316 implanted electrodes present with edema less than 1 cm3 , whereas in the non-steroid group, only 27 (14.67%) of the 184 implanted electrodes present with edema less than 1 cm3 (p < 0.001). Multivariate analysis indicated that lesser peri-electrode edema was significantly associated with postoperative steroids use and general anesthesia. CONCLUSIONS Peri-electrode edema is common after DBS surgery, and postoperative steroids use reduces the occurrence and extent of peri-electrode edema.

Abstract
An aqueous N-acylation reaction for preparing cinnamic acid amides was realized by using a variant of acyltransferase from Mycobacterium smegmatis (MsAcT-L12A), whereas the wild-type MsAcT showed no activity. MsAcT-L12A exhibited broad substrate adaptability, and preferred the substrates with electron-donating group. When the vinyl cinnamate (1a, 40 mM) and p-methoxyaniline (2a, 4 mM) were involved in the reaction, the excellent yield reached to 86.7 % ± 2.1 % within 3 h by MsAcT-L12A (1 mgpro./mL) in a PBS buffer (100 mM, pH 8.0) at 25 °C. The aqueous N-acylation reaction could be further improved by using an immobilized MsAcT-L12A. The biomass aspen powder (AP) as a carrier provided a low-cost, green, and environmental-friendly immobilization strategy. After it was modified by Ni-NTA, the obtained Ni-NAP could realize one-step purification and immobilization of MsAcT-L12A. The accomplished MsAcT-L12A-Ni-NAP exhibited excellent stability and recyclability, and retained its relative yield as 83.3 % ± 2.2 % even after the 7th cycle of reuse. Using only PBS buffer as a reaction medium, the operation for MsAcT-L12A-catalyzed acyl transfer was greatly simplified, and the improved stabilities of MsAcT-L12A-Ni-NAP could enhance its application potential.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Low back pain is a major public health problem worldwide, and there exists evidence that cognitive functional therapy may help improve patients' health condition. However, the utilization of cognitive functional therapy for low back pain is limited, and its clinical efficacy remains unclear. OBJECTIVES To determine the efficacy of cognitive functional therapy in the management of disability, pain intensity, and fear-avoidance beliefs in low back pain patients. DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis. METHOD A comprehensive study search of Pubmed, Web of Science, Medline, CINAHL, Embase, PsycINFO, and the Cochrane Library databases was conducted from their inception to August 14th, 2023. Two researchers independently conducted the literature search and data extraction. All statistical analysis was performed using Stata Version 17.0. RESULTS A total of eight randomized controlled trials were included. In the short-term, cognitive functional therapy significantly improved disability (7 studies, SMD = -1.05, 95 % CI = -1.74 to -0.35, I2 = 95.37 %, GRADE = very low), pain intensity (7 studies, SMD = -1.02, 95 % CI = -1.89 to -0.15, I2 = 97.21 %, GRADE = very low), and fear-avoidance beliefs (4 studies, SMD = -0.89, 95 % CI = -1.30 to -0.47, I2 = 82.49 %, GRADE = very low). In the medium-term, cognitive functional therapy also significantly improved disability (3 studies, SMD = -0.48, 95 % CI = -0.82 to -0.14, I2 = 77.97 %, GRADE = very low), pain intensity (3 studies, SMD = -0.34, 95 % CI = -0.58 to -0.10, I2 = 55.55 %, GRADE = very low), and fear-avoidance beliefs (2 studies, SMD = -0.62, 95 % CI = -1.19 to -0.04, I2 = 88.24 %, GRADE = very low). In the long-term, cognitive functional therapy significantly improved disability (4 studies, SMD = -0.54, 95 % CI = -0.95 to -0.13, I2 = 85.87 %, GRADE = very low) and fear-avoidance beliefs (3 studies, SMD = -0.76, 95 % CI = -1.17 to -0.34, I2 = 80.34 %, GRADE = very low). CONCLUSION Cognitive functional therapy might be effective in reducing disability and fear-avoidance beliefs at any of short-, medium- and long-term follow-ups, and reducing pain at short- and medium-term follow-ups. No definitive conclusions can be drawn about the impact of cognitive functional therapy on low back pain patients due to the very low certainty evidence base. Additional rigorous randomized controlled trials are needed to further confirm these findings. REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD42022287123 (PROSPERO).

Abstract
Mitophagy is a selective autophagy for the degradation of damaged or excessive mitochondria to maintain intracellular homeostasis. In Magnaporthe oryzae, a filamentous ascomycetous fungus that causes rice blast, the most devastating disease of rice, mitophagy occurs in the invasive hyphae to promote infection. To date, only a few proteins are known to participate in mitophagy and the mechanisms of mitophagy are largely unknown in pathogenic fungi. Here, by a yeast two-hybrid screen with the core autophagy-related protein MoAtg8 as a bait, we obtained a MoAtg8 interactor MoAti1 (MoAtg8-interacting protein 1). Fluorescent observations and protease digestion analyses revealed that MoAti1 is primarily localized to the peripheral mitochondrial outer membrane and is responsible for recruiting MoAtg8 to mitochondria under mitophagy induction conditions. MoAti1 is specifically required for mitophagy, but not for macroautophagy and pexophagy. Infection assays suggested that MoAti1 is required for mitophagy in invasive hyphae during pathogenesis. Notably, no homologues of MoAti1 were found in rice and human protein databases, indicating that MoAti1 may be used as a potential target to control rice blast. By the host-induced gene silencing (HIGS) strategy, transgenic rice plants targeted to silencing MoATI1 showed enhanced resistance against M. oryzae with unchanged agronomic traits. Our results suggest that MoATI1 is required for mitophagy and pathogenicity in M. oryzae and can be used as a target for reducing rice blast.

Abstract
Diabetic wounds remain a great challenge for clinicians globally as a lack of effective radical treatment often results in poor prognosis. Exosomes derived from adipose‑derived stem cells (ADSC‑Exos) have been explored as an appealing nanodrug delivery system in the treatment of diabetic wounds. However, the short half‑life and low utilization efficiency of exosomes limit their therapeutic effects. Low‑intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) provides a non‑invasive mechanical stimulus to cells and exerts a number of biological effects such as cavitation and thermal effects. In the present study, whether LIPUS could enhance ADSC‑Exo‑mediated diabetic wound repair was investigated and its possible mechanism of action was explored. After isolation and characterization, ADSC‑Exos were injected into mice with diabetic wounds, then the mice were exposed to LIPUS irradiation. The control mice were subcutaneously injected with PBS. Wound healing assays, laser Doppler perfusion, Masson's staining and angiogenesis assays were used to assess treatment efficiency. Then, ADSC‑Exos were cocultured with human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), and the proliferation, migration and tube formation of HUVECs were assessed. Moreover, the cellular uptake of ADSC‑Exos in vitro and in vivo was assessed to explore the synergistic mechanisms underlying the effects of LIPUS. The in vivo results demonstrated that LIPUS increased the uptake of exosomes and prolonged the residence of exosomes in the wound area, thus enhancing angiogenesis and accelerating wound repair in diabetic mice. The in vitro results further confirmed that LIPUS enhanced the uptake efficiency of ADSC‑Exos by 10.93‑fold and significantly increased the proliferation, migration and tubular formation of HUVECs. Therefore, the present study indicates that LIPUS is a promising strategy to improve the therapeutic effects of ADSC‑Exos in diabetic wounds by promoting the cellular uptake of exosomes and enhancing angiogenesis.

Abstract
A novel manganese cobalt metal-organic framework based carbon nanofiber electrode (MnCo/CNF) was prepared and used as microbial fuel cell (MFC) anode. Pyrite was introduced into the anode chamber (MnCoPy_MFC). Synergistic function between pyrite and MnCo/CNF facilitated the pollutants removal and energy generation in MnCoPy_MFC. MnCoPy_MFC showed the highest chemical oxygen demand removal efficiency (82 ± 1%) and the highest coulombic efficiency (35 ± 1%). MnCoPy_MFC achieved both efficient electricity generation (maximum voltage: 658 mV; maximum power density: 3.2 W/m3) and total antimony (Sb) removal efficiency (99%). The application of MnCo/CNF significantly enhanced the biocatalytic efficiency of MnCoPy_MFC, attributed to its large surface area and abundant porous structure that provided ample attachment sites for electroactive microorganisms. This study revealed the synergistic interaction between pyrite and MnCo/CNF anode, which provided a new strategy for the application of composite anode MFC in heavy metal removal and energy recovery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc is a critical fibrocartilaginous structure with limited regenerative capacity in the oral system. Perforation of the TMJ disc can lead to osteoarthritis and ankylosis of the TMJ because of the lack of disc protection. Clinical treatments for TMJ disc perforation, such as discectomy, hyaluronic acid injection, endoscopic surgery and high position arthroplasty of TMJ, are questionable with regard to long-term outcomes, and only three fourths of TMJ disc perforations are repairable by surgery, even in the short-term. Tissue engineering offers the potential for cure of repairable TMJ disc perforations and regeneration of unrepairable ones. OBJECTIVES This review discusses the classification of TMJ disc perforation and defines typical TMJ disc perforation. Advancements in the engineering-based repair of TMJ disc perforation by stem cell therapy, construction of a disc-like scaffold and functionalization by offering bioactive stimuli are also summarized in the review, and the barriers developing engineering technologies need to overcome to be popularized are discussed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To estimate the safety and effectiveness of emergent transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) creation for acute variceal bleeding (AVB) in cirrhotic patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). MATERIALS AND METHODS Data of thirty-three patients with AVB and HCC undergoing emergent TIPS creation from January 2016 to January 2022 were enrolled and were retrospectively analyzed. The primary outcomes were the safety of emergent TIPS creation, the bleeding control rate, and the rebleeding rate. The secondary outcomes included overall survival (OS), liver function, overt hepatic encephalopathy (HE), and shunt dysfunction. RESULTS Emergent TIPS creation was technically successful in 33 patients (100%) and one (3.0%) patient suffered a major procedure-related adverse event. The control rate of bleeding (within 5 days) was 100%. During a median follow-up period of 26.3 months, rebleeding occurred in 6 (18.2%) patients. The median OS was 20.0 months. The 6-week and 1-year survival rates were 87% and 65%, respectively. Laboratory tests showed no significant impairment of liver function following TIPS creation. The incidences of overt HE and shunt dysfunction were 24.2% and 6.1%, respectively. CONCLUSION Emergent TIPS creation is feasible and effective for treatment of AVB in cirrhotic patients with HCC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study investigates the serial multiple mediation of job stress and perceived behavioral control (PBC) in the relationship between social support and oral health behavior (OHB). MATERIALS AND METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted in Minhang District, Shanghai, China, between July and November 2021. 559 Employees from 10 community health centers were recruited. A five-part survey was used to collect data on demographic characteristics, social support, job stress, PBC and OHB. Descriptive statistics, independent-sample t-test, Pearson's correlation analysis, ordinary least-squares regression and the bootstrap method were used to analyze data. RESULTS Social support was found to impact OHB through three significant mediation pathways: the pathway through job stress (point estimate = 0.033; 95%BC CI [0.004, 0.089]), the pathway through PBC (point estimate = 0.283; 95%BC CI [0.174, 0.416]), and the serial multiple mediating pathway through first job stress and then PBC (point estimate = 0.006; 95%BC CI [0.001, 0.019]). CONCLUSION This study indicates that job stress and PBC play a serial multiple-mediator role in the relationship between social support and OHB. To ensure the effectiveness of social support intervention on OHB, workplace managers and employees should strengthen the motivators that could promote the reduction of job stress and the improvement of PBC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We assessed longitudinal effects of e-cigarette use on respiratory symptoms in a nationally representative sample of US adults by combustible tobacco smoking status. METHODS We analyzed Waves 4-5 public-use data from the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health Study. Study sample included adult respondents who reported no diagnosis of respiratory diseases at Wave 4, and completed Waves 4-5 surveys with no missing data on analytic variables (N = 15,291). Outcome was a validated index of functionally important respiratory symptoms based on 7 wheezing/cough questions (range 0-9). An index score of ≥2 was defined as having important respiratory symptoms. Weighted lagged logistic regression models were performed to examine the association between e-cigarette use status at Wave 4 (former/current vs. never use) and important respiratory symptoms at Wave 5 by combustible tobacco smoking status (i.e., never/former/current smokers), adjusting for Wave 4 respiratory symptom index, sociodemographic characteristics, secondhand smoke exposure, body mass index, and chronic disease. RESULTS Among current combustible tobacco smokers, e-cigarette use was associated with increased odds of reporting important respiratory symptoms (former e-cigarette use: adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 1.39, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.07-1.81; current e-cigarette use: AOR = 1.55, 95% CI: 1.17-2.06). Among former combustible tobacco smokers, former e-cigarette use (AOR = 1.51, 95% CI: 1.06-2.15)-but not current e-cigarette use (AOR = 1.59, 95% CI: 0.91-2.78)-was associated with increased odds of important respiratory symptoms. Among never combustible tobacco smokers, no significant association was detected between e-cigarette use and important respiratory symptoms (former e-cigarette use: AOR = 1.62, 95% CI: 0.76-3.46; current e-cigarette use: AOR = 0.82, 95% CI: 0.27-2.56). CONCLUSIONS The association between e-cigarette use and respiratory symptoms varied by combustible tobacco smoking status. Current combustible tobacco smokers who use e-cigarettes have an elevated risk of respiratory impairments.

Abstract
Fractional vegetation cover (FVC) is a crucial indicator to estimate degradation and desertification for grasslands. However, traditional small-scale FVC analysis methods, such as visual estimation and point-sampling, are cumbersome and imprecise. Innovative methods like image-based FVC analysis methods, while accurate, face challenges such as complex analytical procedures and the necessary training for operations. Therefore, in this study, a combined application of ImageJ and Photoshop was employed to achieve a more effective analysis of FVC values in desertification areas. Our results showed that the FVC results obtained by combination of Photoshop and ImageJ were dependable and precise (R2 > 0.98), demonstrating equivalency to results obtained through either visual estimation or Photoshop-based methods. Furthermore, even in the face of background interference and varied shooting angles, the combination of ImageJ and Photoshop software was still able to maintain a low error rate when analyzing FVC values (average error rate = - 2.6%). In conclusion, the imaged-based combined FVC analysis method employed in our research was an effective, precise, and efficient technique for analyzing small-scale FVC, promising substantial improvement over conventional methods.

Abstract
Chiral trisubstituted vicinal diols are a type of important organic compounds, serving as both common structure units in bioactive natural products and chiral auxiliaries in asymmetric synthesis. Herein, by using siloxypropadienes as the precursors of allyl copper(I) species, a copper(I)-catalyzed diastereoselective and enantioselective reductive allylation of ketones was achieved, providing both syn-diols and anti-diols in good to excellent enantioselectivity. DFT calculations show that cis-γ-siloxy-allyl copper species are generated favorably with either 1-TBSO-propadiene or 1-TIPSO-propadiene. Moreover, the steric difference of TBS group and TIPS group distinguishes the face selectivity of acetophenone, leading to syn-selectivity for 1-TBSO-propadiene and anti-selectivity for 1-TIPSO-propadiene. Easy transformations of the products were performed, demonstrating the synthetic utility of the present method. Moreover, one chiral diol prepared in the above transformations was used as a suitable organocatalyst for the catalytic asymmetric reductive self-coupling of aldimines generated in situ with B2(neo)2.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effectiveness of arthroscopic reduction and rigid fixation (ARRF) using a suture-free titanium screw as a treatment approach to temporomandibular joint's (TMJ) anterior disc displacement without reduction (ADDwoR) and assess its impact on clinical outcomes, including improvements in symptoms related to TMJ disorders. MATERIALS AND METHODS A series of twenty patients presented to the Department of Orthognathic and Temporomandibular Surgery at West China Hospital of Stomatology between September 2022 and January 2023, complaining of symptoms such as pain, clicking, and limited mouth opening. Standard magnetic resonance image (MRI) imaging T1 and T2 sequences in both sagittal and coronal views study with closed and maximal open mouth positions were taken preoperatively to assess the disc's position, integrity, and shape. Also, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans images to find any degenerative changes and evaluate the condylar bone's features and volume. Additionally, the clinical examination assesses limited oral opening, mechanical pain, and the presence of any noises such as clicking and crepitus. All cases were treated under general anesthesia using the arthroscopic release, reduction, and rigid fixation of the TMJ's ADDwoR to establish a normal disc-condyle relationship and to restore the functional position. RESULTS Patients' symptoms, such as pain and mouth opening, improved significantly following the arthroscopic treatment. Postoperative MRI and CBCT imaging follow-up conducted at 6 months demonstrated the stable position of the reduced TMJ disc and the fixation screw. Notably, none of the patients exhibited signs of relapse during this follow-up period. CONCLUSION Overall, the ARRF of TMJ's ADDwoR using a suture-free titanium screw proved to be safe and provides satisfactory results, in addition to the several advantages of using suture-free titanium screws, such as biocompatibility, strong fixation, and durability. However, it is a technically demanding procedure requiring extensive, long-term training. CLINICAL RELEVANCE ARRF using a cost-effective fixation titanium screw to treat ADDwoR emerges as a clinically effective minimally invasive approach.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Our previous studies have found that andrographolide (AGP) alleviates calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD), but the underlying mechanism is unclear. This study explores the molecular target and signal mechanisms of AGP in inhibiting CAVD. EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH The anti-calcification effects of the aortic valve with AGP treatment were evaluated by alizarin red staining in vitro and ultrasound and histopathological assessment of a high-fat (HF)-fed ApoE-/- mouse valve calcification model. A correlation between the H3 histone lactylation (H3Kla) and calcification was detected. Molecular docking and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) experiments were further used to confirm p300 as a target for AGP. Overexpression (oe) and silencing (si) of p300 were used to verify the inhibitory effect of AGP targeting p300 on the H3Kla in vitro and ex vivo. KEY RESULTS AGP significantly inhibited calcium deposition in valve interstitial cells (VICs) and ameliorated aortic valve calcification. The multi-omics analysis revealed the glycolysis pathway involved in CAVD, indicating that AGP interfered with lactate production by regulating lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA). In addition, lactylation, a new post-translational modification, was shown to have a role in promoting aortic valve calcification. Furthermore, H3Kla and H3K9la site were shown to correlate with Runx2 expression inhibition by AGP treatment. Importantly, we found that p300 transferase was the molecular target of AGP in inhibiting H3Kla. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS Our findings, for the first time, demonstrated that AGP alleviates calcification by interfering with H3Kla via p300, which might be a powerful drug to prevent CAVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Congenital biliary dilatation (CBD) necessitates the timely removal of dilated bile ducts. Accurate differentiation between CBD and secondary biliary dilatation (SBD) is crucial for treatment decisions, and identification of CBD with intrahepatic involvement is vital for surgical planning and supportive care. This study aimed to develop quantitative models based on bile duct morphology to distinguish CBD from SBD and further identify CBD with intrahepatic involvement. MATERIALS AND METHODS The retrospective study included 131 CBD and 209 SBD patients between December 2014 and December 2021 for model development, internal validation and testing. A separate cohort of 15 CBD and 34 SBD patients between January 2022 and December 2022 was recruited for temporally-independent validation. Quantitative shape-based (Shape) and diameter-based (Diam) morphological characteristics of bile ducts were extracted to build a CBD diagnosis model to distinguish CBD from SBD and an intrahepatic involvement identification model to classify CBD with/without intrahepatic involvement. The diagnostic performance of the models was compared with that of experienced hepatobiliary surgeons. RESULTS The CBD diagnosis model using clinical, Shape, and Diam characteristics showed good performance with an AUROC of 0.942 [95% CI: 0.890-0.994], AUPRC of 0.917 [0.855-0.979], accuracy of 0.891, sensitivity of 0.950 and F1-score of 0.864. The model outperformed two experienced surgeons in accuracy, sensitivity, and F1-score. The intrahepatic involvement identification model using clinical, Shape, and Diam characteristics yielded outstanding performance with an AUROC of 0.944 [0.879-1.000], AUPRC of 0.982 [0.947-1.000], accuracy of 0.932, sensitivity of 0.971 and F1-score of 0.957. The models demonstrated generalizable performance on the temporally-independent validation cohort. CONCLUSIONS This study developed two robust quantitative models for distinguishing CBD from SBD and identifying CBD with intrahepatic involvement, respectively, based on morphological characteristics of the bile ducts, showing great potential in risk stratification and surgical planning of CBD.

Abstract
Composite structures integrated with metasurfaces and nonlinear films have emerged as alternative candidates to enhance nonlinear response. The cooperative interaction between the two components is complicated. Herein, a split-ring resonator (SRR)-type metasurface was fabricated on a free-standing nanocrystal diamond (NCD) film utilizing electron beam lithography, electron beam evaporation, and a lift-off process. The terahertz (THz) radiation from the SRR-NCD under normal incidence originates from the high-order magnetic resonance of SRR because the NCD film cannot produce detectable THz radiation at this incident angle. As increasing the incident angle, the contribution of the THz radiation from the NCD film gradually increases until reaching 40° incident angle limitation. The results indicate that this angular-dependent THz radiation is induced by the interplay between the NCD film and SRR. This study offers a new approach to investigate nonlinear processes in composite structures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Venoarterial (VA) extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), an effective short-term circulatory support method for refractory cardiogenic shock, is widely applied. However, retrospective analyses have shown that VA-ECMO-assisted cases were associated with a relatively high mortality rate of approximately 60%. Embolization in important organs caused by complications of left ventricular thrombosis (LVT) during VA-ECMO is also an important reason. Although the incidence of LVT during VA-ECMO is not high, the consequences of embolization are disastrous. CASE SUMMARY A 37-year-old female patient was admitted to hospital because of fever for 4 d and palpitations for 3 d. After excluding the diagnosis of coronary heart disease, we established a diagnosis of "clinically explosive myocarditis". The patient still had unstable hemodynamics after drug treatment supported by VA-ECMO, with heparin for anticoagulation. On day 4 of ECMO support, a left ventricular thrombus attached to the papillary muscle root of the mitral valve was found by transthoracic echocardiography. Left ventricular decompression was performed and ECMO was successfully removed, but the patient eventually died of multiple cerebral embolism. CONCLUSION LVT with high mobility during VA-ECMO may cause embolism in important organs. Therefore, a "wait and see" strategy should be avoided.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Exosomes derived from M2 macrophages (M2-Exos) exhibit tremendous potential for inducing tissue repair and regeneration. Herein, this study was designed to elucidate the biological roles of M2-Exos in regenerative endodontic therapy (RET) compared with exosomes from M1 macrophages (M1-Exos). METHODS The internalization of M1-Exos and M2-Exos by dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) was detected by uptake assay. The effects of M1-Exos and M2-Exos on DPSC and HUVEC behaviors, including migration, proliferation, odonto/osteogenesis, neurogenesis, and angiogenesis were determined in vitro. Then, Matrigel plugs incorporating M2-Exos were transplanted subcutaneously into nude mice. Immunostaining for vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and CD31 was performed to validate capillary-like networks. RESULTS M1-Exos and M2-Exos were effectively absorbed by DPSCs and HUVECs. Compared with M1-Exos, M2-Exos considerably facilitated the proliferation and migration of DPSCs and HUVECs. Furthermore, M2-Exos robustly promoted ALP activity, mineral nodule deposition, and the odonto/osteogenic marker expression of DPSCs, indicating the powerful odonto/osteogenic potential of M2-Exos. In sharp contrast with M1-Exos, which inhibited the neurogenic capacity of DPSCs, M2-Exos contributed to a significantly augmented expression of neurogenic genes and the stronger immunostaining of Nestin. Consistent with remarkably enhanced angiogenic markers and tubular structure formation in DPSCs and HUVECs in vitro, the employment of M2-Exos gave rise to more abundant vascular networks, dramatically higher VEGF expression, and widely spread CD31+ tubular lumens in vivo, supporting the enormous pro-angiogenic capability of M2-Exos. CONCLUSIONS The multifaceted roles of M2-Exos in ameliorating DPSC and HUVEC functions potentially contribute to complete functional pulp-dentin complex regeneration.

Abstract
PURPOSE Systemic chemotherapy (SYS) is the first-line treatment of unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). However, the survival benefit of SYS is still limited. This study compared the efficacy and safety of patients with unresectable ICC treated with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) plus SYS to SYS alone. MATERIAL AND METHODS The multicenter retrospective cohort study included patients aged ≥ 18 years old with pathologically diagnosed ICC. Patients with unmeasurable lesions, not receiving SYS treatment, Child-Pugh grade C, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status score of 3 or higher, prior liver resection, incomplete medical information, or discontinuation of the first SYS treatment were excluded. Data collection was mainly from the hospital system, and the survival outcome of patients was obtained through follow-up. Overall survival (OS) was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using the log-rank test. Propensity score matching at a 1:1 ratio using the nearest neighbor matching algorithm was performed to reduce selection bias between the TACE plus SYS and SYS alone groups. The Cox proportional hazards model was used to identify prognostic factors associated with OS and to estimate their hazard ratios. Modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors criteria were utilized to evaluate the response of tumors to therapy. RESULTS Between June 2016 and February 2023, 118 unresectable ICC patients from three hospitals were included in this study. Of them, 37 were in the TACE plus SYS group and 81 were in the SYS alone group. The median OS in the combination group was 11.3 months, longer than the 6.4 months in the SYS alone group (P = 0.011). A greater objective response rate (ORR) and disease control rate (DCR) were observed in the combination group than in the SYS alone group (ORR, 48.65 vs. 6.17%, P < 0.001; DCR, 89.19 vs. 62.96%, P = 0.004). There were 16 patients in each group after matching, and the matched results remained consistent regarding OS and tumor response. Adverse events (AEs) were similar in the two groups after matching. CONCLUSION Compared to SYS alone, the combination treatment of TACE plus SYS was more effective than SYS alone in improving OS, ORR, and DCR without any significant increase in AEs. TACE plus SYS may be a viable treatment option for patients with unresectable ICC.

Abstract
Olfactory dysfunction (OD) is a highly prevalent symptom and an early sign of neurodegenerative diseases in humans. However, the roles of peripheral olfactory system in disease progression and the mechanisms behind neurodegeneration remain to be studied. Olfactory epithelium (OE) organoid is an ideal model to study pathophysiology in vitro, yet the reliance on 3D culture condition limits continual in situ monitoring of organoid development. Here, we combined impedance biosensors and live imaging for real-time spatiotemporal analysis of OE organoids morphological and physiological features during Alzheimer's disease (AD) progression. The impedance measurements showed that organoids generated from basal stem cells of APP/PS1 transgenic mice had lower proliferation rate than that from wild-type mice. In concert with the biosensor measurements, live imaging enabled to visualize the spatial and temporal dynamics of organoid morphology. Abnormal protein aggregation and accumulation, including amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles, was found in AD organoids and increased as disease progressed. This multimodal in situ bioelectrical measurement and imaging provide a new platform for investigating onset mechanisms of OD, which would shed new light on early diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative disease.

Abstract
The implementation of passive cooling strategies is crucial for transitioning from the current high-power- and energy-intensive thermal management practices to more environmentally friendly and carbon-neutral alternatives. Among the various approaches, developing thermal management materials with high thermal conductivity and emissivity for effective cooling of personal and wearable devices in both indoor and outdoor settings poses significant challenges. In this study, we successfully fabricated a cooling patch by combining biodegradable silk fibroin with boron nitride nanosheets. This patch exhibits consistent heat dissipation capabilities under different ambient conditions. Leveraging its excellent radiative cooling efficiency (Rsolar = 0.89 and εLWIR = 0.84) and high thermal conductivity (in-plane 27.58 W m-1 K-1 and out-plane 1.77 W m-1 K-1), the cooling patch achieves significant simulated skin temperature reductions of approximately 2.5 and 8.2 °C in outdoor and indoor conditions, respectively. Furthermore, the film demonstrates excellent biosafety and can be recycled and reused for at least three months. This innovative BNNS/SF film holds great potential for advancing the field of personal thermal management materials.

Abstract
To address the requirement of ultra-sensitive detection of trace mercury(II) (Hg2+) ions in the environment and food, we developed an electrochemical biosensor with super-sensitivity, extremely high selectivity, and reusability. This biosensor comprised two signal amplification components: a three-dimensional macroporous dealloyed (3DOMD) Au-Ag thin-film electrode and a multifunctional encoded Au@Pt nanocage (APNC). As a platform for immobilized capture DNA (cDNA), a 3DOMD Au-Ag thin film prepared by a dealloying method with an active surface area 4.8 times higher than that of 3D macroporous gold films generated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) with sulfuric acid was capable of increasing the sensing surface area while also strengthening the electron transport capacity of the sensing substrate due to its multilayered multi-porous framework. In the presence of Hg2+, probe DNA (pDNA) could be hybridized with the mismatched capture DNA (cDNA) through stable thymine-Hg2+-thymine (T-Hg2+-T) linkages, connecting thionine-APNC to the electrode surface and utilizing the large specific surface area to accomplish highly sensitive detection of Hg2+. With an extremely low Hg2+ detection limit of 2 pM and a detection range from 0.01 to 1000 nM, this technique opened up a new avenue for the ultrasensitive detection of a wider range of heavy metal ions or biomolecules.
