Abstract
Breast cancer lung metastases (BCLM) are a major cause of high mortality in patients. The shortage of therapeutic targets and rapid drug screening tools for BCLM is a major challenge at present. Mitochondrial autophagy, which involves the degradation of proteins associated with cancer cell aggressiveness, represents a possible therapeutic approach for the treatment of BCLM. Herein, four fluorescent biosensors with different alkyl chains were designed and synthesized to monitor mitochondrial autophagy. Among them, PMV-12 demonstrated the highest sensitivity to viscosity variance, the least impact on polarity, and the longest imaging time. The introduction of the C12-chain made PMV-12 anchored in the mitochondrial membrane without being disturbed by changes of the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), thereby achieving the long-term monitor in situ for mitochondrial autophagy. Mitochondria stained with PMV-12 induced swelling and viscosity increase after treating with apigenin, which indicated that apigenin is a potential mitochondrial autophagy inducer. Apigenin was subsequently verified to inhibit cancer cell invasion by 92%. Furthermore, PMV-12 could monitor the process of BCLM in vivo and evaluate the therapeutic effects of apigenin. This work provides a fluorescent tool for elucidating the role of mitochondrial autophagy in the BCLM process and for anti-metastatic drug development.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This systematic review aimed to assess the tolerability of patients with cardiac amyloidosis (CA) to beta-blockers (BBs) and evaluate its association with adverse outcomes. METHODS We performed a comprehensive search from January 1, 2000 to October 20, 2023. Studies examining BB use and tolerance or the relationship between BB use and outcomes in patients with CA were included. Pooled adjusted hazard ratios (aHRs) for all-cause mortality were calculated using random- and fixed-effects models. RESULTS Eight observational studies involving 4002 patients with CA (87.5% with transthyretin CA [ATTR-CA] and 12.5% with immunoglobulin light chain CA [AL-CA]) were assessed. BBs were used by 52.5% of the patients. However, 26.3% of the patients discontinued BBs because of hypotension, bradycardia, or fatigue. Regarding the association between BB use and all-cause death, four studies were identified that included 2874 patients with ATTR-CA and 16 patients with AL-CA. The meta-analysis revealed no apparent relationship between BB use and all-cause mortality (pooled aHR = 0.78, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.40-1.51). Two studies on patients with ATTR-CA found no impact of BB use on all-cause mortality in the subgroup with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) > 40%, but conflicting results exist for those with LVEF ≤40% (pooled aHR = 0.78, 95% CI = 0.40-1.54). CONCLUSION The limited number of observational studies that predominantly enrolled patients with ATTR-CA showed that BBs were used in almost half of the patients with CA, with varying tolerability. However, no significant association was observed between BB use and all-cause mortality.

Abstract
Clostridium perfringens is a zoonotic opportunistic pathogen that produces toxins that can cause necrotic enteritis and even "sudden death disease". This bacterium is widely distributed in the intestines of livestock and human, but there are few reports of distribution in aquatic animals (Hafeez et al., 2022). In order to explore the isolation rate of C. perfringens and the toxin genes they carry, 141 aquatic samples, including clams (Ruditapes philippinarum), oysters (Ostreidae), and mud snails (Bullacta exerata Philippi), were collected from the coastal areas of Shandong Province, China. C. perfringens strains were tested for cpa, cpb, etx, iap, cpb2, cpe, netB, and tpeL genes. 45 clam samples were boiled at 100 °C for 5 min before bacteria isolation. 80 strains were isolated from 141 samples with the positive rate being 57 %.And the positive rates of cooked clams was 87 % which was higher than the average. In detection of 8 toxin genes, all strains tested cpa positive, 3 strains netB positive, and 2 cpb and cpe, respectively. 64 strains were selected to analyze the antibiotic resistance phenotype of 10 antibiotics. The average antibiotic resistance rates of the strains to tetracycline, clindamycin, and ampicillin were 45 %, 20 %, and 16 % respectively, and the MIC of 4 strains to clindamycin was ≥128 μg/mL. A high isolation rate of C. perfringens from aquatic animals was shown, and it was isolated from boiled clams for the first time, in which cpe and netB toxin genes were detected for the first time too. The toxin encoded by cpe gene can cause food poisoning of human, thus the discoveries of this study have certain guiding significance for food safety. Antibiotics resistant C. perfringens of aquatic origin may arise from transmission in the terrestrial environment or from antibiotic contamination of the aquaculture environment and is of public health significance.

Abstract
Energy-structure transformation and CO2-emission reduction are becoming particularly urgent for China and many other countries. Development of effective methods that are capable of quantifying and predicting CO2 emissions to achieve carbon neutrality is desired. This study advances a factorial-analysis-based Bayesian neural network (abbreviated as FABNN) method to reflect the complex relationship between inputs and outputs as well as reveal the individual and interactive effects of multiple factors affecting CO2 emissions. FABNN is then applied to analyzing CO2 emissions of China (abbreviated as CEC), where multiple factors involve in energy (e.g., the consumption of natural gas, CONG), economic (e.g., Gross domestic product, GDP) and social (e.g., the rate of urbanization, ROU) aspects are investigated and 512 scenarios are designed to achieve the national dual carbon targets (i.e., carbon peak before 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060). Comparing to the conventional machine learning methods, FABNN performs better in calibration and validation results, indicating that FABNN is suitable for CEC simulation and prediction. Results disclose that the top three factors affecting CEC under the dual‑carbon target are GDP, CONG, and ROU; energy, economic and social contributions are 43.5 %, 34.6 % and 21.9 %, respectively. CEC reaches its carbon peak during 2027-2032 and achieve carbon neutrality during 2053-2057 under all scenarios. Under the optimal scenario (S195), the CO2-emission reduction potential is about 772.2 million tonnes and the consumptions of coal, petroleum and natural gas can be respectively reduced by 3.1 %, 9.9 % and 23.0 % compared to the worst scenario (S466). The results can provide solid support for national energy-structure transformation and CO2-emission reduction to achieve carbon-peak and carbon-neutrality targets.

Abstract
Natural killer (NK) cells, a major component of the innate immune system, have prominent immunoregulatory, antitumor proliferation, and antiviral activities. NK cells act as a double-edged sword with therapeutic potential in neurological autoimmunity. Emerging evidence has identified NK cells are involved in the development and progression of neuroimmunological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders, autoimmune encephalitis, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, myasthenia gravis, and idiopathic inflammatory myopathy. However, the regulatory mechanisms and functional roles of NK cells are highly variable in different clinical states of neuroimmunological diseases and need to be further determined. In this review, we summarize the evidence for the heterogenic involvement of NK cells in the above conditions. Further, we describe cutting-edge NK-cell-based immunotherapy for neuroimmunological diseases in preclinical and clinical development and highlight challenges that must be overcome to fully realize the therapeutic potential of NK cells.

Abstract
Hyperthyroidism, often accompanied by hepatic insufficiency (HI), poses significant clinical challenges, highlighting the necessity for identifying optimal treatment strategies and early diagnostic biomarkers to improve patient outcomes. This study aimed to determine the optimal iodine-131 (131I) intervention dose for alleviating hyperthyroidism with HI and to identify serum metabolic biomarkers for early diagnosis using UPLC-Q/TOF-MS technology. A mouse model for early 131I intervention was established to monitor changes in physiological response, body weight, fur condition, thyroid, and liver function. Metabolite identification was achieved through UPLC-Q/TOF-MS and further analyzed via MetaboAnalyst. Six biomarkers were identified and subjected to ROC analysis. Early intervention with 80 μCi 131I per gram of thyroid tissue effectively controlled hyperthyroidism and improved liver function. Metabolomics analysis uncovered 63 differentially abundant metabolites, six of which (L-kynurenine, Taurochenodesoxycholic acid, Glycocholic acid, Phytosphingosine, Tryptamine, and Betaine) were identified as early warning biomarkers. Post-intervention, these biomarkers progressively returned to normal levels. This study demonstrates the efficacy of UPLC-Q/TOF-MS in identifying metabolic biomarkers for early diagnosis of hyperthyroidism with HI and highlights the therapeutic potential of early 131I intervention in normalizing these biomarkers.

Abstract
AIMS A therapeutic strategy for chronic heart failure (HF) is to lower resting heart rate (HR). Ivabradine is a well-known HR-lowering agent, but limited prospective data exist regarding its use in Chinese patients. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of ivabradine in Chinese patients with chronic HF. METHODS AND RESULTS This multicentre, single-arm, prospective, observational study enrolled Chinese patients with chronic HF. The primary outcome was change from baseline in HR at 1 and 6 months, measured by pulse counting. Effectiveness was also evaluated using laboratory tests, the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ) clinical summary score (CSS) and overall summary score (OSS), and New York Heart Association (NYHA) class. Treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) were assessed. A post hoc analysis examined the effectiveness and safety of ivabradine combined with an angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI) or beta-blocker. A total of 1003 patients were enrolled [mean age 54.4 ± 15.0 years, 773 male (77.1%), mean baseline HR 88.5 ± 11.3 b.p.m., mean blood pressure 115.7/74.4 ± 17.2/12.3 mmHg, mean left ventricular ejection fraction 30.9 ± 7.6%, NYHA Classes III and IV in 48.8% and 22.0% of patients, respectively]. HR decreased by a mean of 12.9 and 16.1 b.p.m. after 1 and 6 months, respectively (both P < 0.001). At Month 6, improvements in the KCCQ CSS and OSS of ≥5 points were observed in 72.1% and 74.1% of patients, respectively (both P < 0.001). Left ventricular ejection fraction increased by 12.1 ± 11.6 (P < 0.001), and 66.7% of patients showed improvement in NYHA class (P < 0.001). At Month 6, the overall proportion of patients in NYHA Classes III and IV was reduced to 13.5% and 2.1%, respectively. Serum brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and N-terminal pro-BNP changed by -331.9 ng/L (-1238.6, -134.0) and -1113.8 ng/L (-2202.0, -297.2), respectively (P < 0.001). HR reductions and improvements in NYHA and KCCQ scores with ivabradine were similar with and without use of ARNIs or beta-blockers. Of 498 TEAEs in 296 patients (29.5%), 73 TEAEs in 55 patients (5.5%) were considered related to ivabradine [most frequent sinus bradycardia (n = 7) and photopsia (n = 7)]. TEAEs were reported in a similar number of patients in ARNI and beta-blocker subgroups (21.9-35.6%). CONCLUSIONS Ivabradine treatment reduced HR and improved cardiac function and health-related quality of life in Chinese patients with chronic HF. Benefits were seen irrespective of whether or not patients were also taking ARNIs or beta-blockers. Treatment was well tolerated with a similar profile to previous ivabradine studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Minimal access breast surgery improves cosmetic outcomes over conventional breast surgery but still faces barriers in becoming standard procedure for breast reconstruction. This report introduces a novel technique of transaxillary reverse-sequence endoscopic nipple-sparing mastectomy (R-E-NSM) followed by direct-to-implant prepectoral breast reconstruction (DTI-PBR) and describes its clinical outcomes. METHODS This prospective study enrolled patients who underwent R-E-NSM and DTI-PBR from March 2021 to December 2021 at a single institution. Perioperative data, surgical complications, oncologic outcomes, and patient- and surgeon-reported cosmetic results were noted. RESULTS The 60 patients in this study who underwent 68 R-E-NSM and DTI-PBR had a mean age was 40.4 ± 10.3 years. The average durations of uni- and bilateral operations were 156.5 ± 48.3 min and 191.3 ± 36.1 min, respectively. The overall surgical complication rate was 13.3%, including 10.0% of patients with minor complications and 3.3% of patients with major complications. The study had one case (1.7%) of implant loss and one case (1.7%) of skin flap necrosis treated by reoperation. During the median follow-up period of 24 months, one patient (1.7%) who discontinued chemotherapy for myelosuppression experienced liver metastases 5 months postoperatively, and one patient experienced new-onset contralateral ductal carcinoma in situ 24 months postoperatively. The preoperative and 18-month postoperative Breast-Q scores for satisfaction with breasts, psychosocial well-being, sexual well-being, and chest well-being did not differ significantly, and the Scar-Q was 81.2 ± 14.5 points. The good-to-excellent rate in surgeon-reported cosmetic results reached 90%. CONCLUSIONS Transaxillary R-E-NSM followed by DTI-PBR is a safe and efficient technique with high cosmetic outcomes and reliable medium-term oncologic results.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE The prevalence of myopia and high myopia is increasing globally, underscoring the growing importance of diagnosing high myopia-related pathologies. While existing image segmentation models, such as U-Net, UNet++, ResU-Net, and TransUNet, have achieved significant success in medical image segmentation, they still face challenges when dealing with ultra-widefield (UWF) fundus images. This study introduces a novel automatic segmentation algorithm for the optic disc and peripapillary atrophy (PPA) based on UWF fundus images, aimed at assisting ophthalmologists in more accurately diagnosing high myopia-related diseases. METHODS In this study, we developed a segmentation model leveraging a Transformer-based network structure, complemented by atrous convolution and selective boundary aggregation modules, to elevate the accuracy of segmenting the optic disc and PPA in UWF photography. The atrous convolution module adeptly manages multi-scale features, catering to the variances in target sizes and expanding the deep network's receptive field. Concurrently, the incorporation of the selective boundary aggregation module in the skip connections of the model significantly improves the differentiation of boundary information between segmentation targets. Moreover, the comparison of our proposed algorithm with classical segmentation models like U-Net, UNet++, ResU-Net, and TransUNet highlights its considerable advantages in processing UWF photographs. RESULTS The experimental results show that, compared to the other four models, our algorithm demonstrates substantial improvements in segmenting the optic disc and PPA in UWF photographs. In PPA segmentation, our algorithm improves by 0.8% in Dice, 1.8% in sensitivity, and 1.3% in intersection over union (IOU). In optic disc segmentation, our algorithm improves by 0.3% in Dice, 0.6% in precision, and 0.4% in IOU. CONCLUSION Our proposed method improves the segmentation accuracy of PPA and optic disks based on UWF photographs, which is valuable for diagnosing high myopia-related diseases in ophthalmology clinics.

Abstract
Waterfowl have a high likelihood of being infected with Riemerella anatipestifer. Although the pathogen is found in domestic ducks, turkeys, geese, and wild birds, there is little information available about the consequences of infection during egg laying and hatching in chickens. Here, we present the first report of a novel sequence type of R. anatipestifer S63 isolated from chickens in China. On the basis of pan-genome analysis, we showed S63's genome occupies a distinct branch with other R. anatipestifer isolates from other hosts. Galleria mellonella larval tests indicated that S63 is less virulent than R. anatipestifer Ra36 isolated from ducks. Ducks and hens are susceptible to S63 infection. There is no mortality rate for chickens or ducks, but adult chickens experience neurological symptoms that reduce egg production and hatching rates. In chickens, S63 might be passed vertically from parents to offspring, resulting in "jelly-like" lifeless embryos. Using quantitative PCR, S63 was detected in the brain, liver, reproductive organs, and embryos. As far as we know, this is the first report of R. anatipestifer in hens, a disease that can reduce egg productivity, lower hatching rates, and produce jelly-like lifeless embryos, and the first report to raise the possibility that hens can be infected by roosters via semen.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate clinical effect of tendons pulling,poking and kneading for the treatment of external humeral epicondylitis. METHODS From January 2018 to December 2021,a multicenter randomized controlled study was performed to collect 192 patients with external humeral epicondylitis in Wangjing Hospital,Beijing Dianli Hospital,and Beijing Fengsheng Osteotraumatology Hospital,respectively,and they were divided into treatment group and control group by random number table method. There were 96 patients in treatment group,including 36 males and 60 females,aged from 28 to 60 years old with an average of (41.20±5.50) years old;the course of disease ranged from 1 to 14 days with an average of (5.24±1.35) days;they were treated once every other day for 2 weeks. There were 96 patients in control group ,including 33 males and 63 females,aged from 26 to 60 years old with an average of (43.35±7.75) years old;the course of disease ranged from 1 to 14 days with an average of (5.86±1.48) days;they were treated with topical voltaalin combined with elbow joint fixation for 2 weeks. Visual analogue scale (VAS) and Hospital for Surgery Scoring System (HSS) elbow pronation and supination angles,wrist metacarpal flexion and dorsal extension angles,elbow tenderness between two groups were compared before treatment and at 1,3,5,7,11 and 13 days after treatment;Hospital for Surgery Scoring System 2 (HSS2) was compared before treatment and the final treatment. RESULTS All patients were followed up for 10 to 14 days with an average of (12±1.6) days. VAS between treatment group and control group before treatment were 6.83±1.36 and 6.79±1.58,respectively,and decreased to 1.49±1.09 and 2.11±1.81 after the final treatment. VAS of treatment group were significantly lower than those of control group at 1,3,5,7,9,11 and 13 days after treatment (P<0.05). HSS between two groups were 61.73±11.00 and 36.47±12.45 before treatment,respectively,and increased to 94.42±5.9 and 91.44±9.11 at the final treatment. HSS of treatment group were significantly higher than those of control group at 1,3,5,7,9,11 and 13 days after treatment (P<0.05). On the 5th day after treatment,the external and internal rotation angles of elbow in treatment group were (66.41±12.69) ° and (66.35±13.54) °,while those in control group were (62.08±16.03) ° and (61.77±16.35) °. On the 7th day after treatment,the external and internal rotation angles of elbow were (69.79±12.64) ° and (70.02±13.55) ° in treatment group,and (65.28±15.86) ° and (65.09±16.67) ° in control group. Elbow joint motion in treatment group was higher than that in control group (P<0.05). On the 5th day after treatment,angles of wrist dorsiflexion and palm flexion were (39.43±15.94) ° and (46.68±11.10) ° in treatment group,and (38.51±18.49) ° and (44.27±13.58) ° in control group. On the 7th day after treatment,angles of wrist dorsiflexion and palm flexion were (42.52±16.50) ° and (49.23±10.96) ° in treatment group,and (41.18±20.09) ° and (46.64±14.63) ° in control group. The motion of wrist joint in treatment group was higher than that in control group (P<0.05). On the 13th day after treatment,HSS2 in treatment group 93.61±6.32 were higher than those in control group 92.06±7.94(P<0.05). There was no significant difference in elbow tenderness between two groups at each time point (P>0.05). CONCLUSION Voltaren external treatment combined with elbow fixation and tendons pulling,poking and kneading could effectively improve symptoms of external humeral epicondylitis. Compared with voltaren external treatment,tendons pulling,poking and kneading has advantages of longer analgesic time and better elbow function recovery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diffuse intestinal lipomatosis is a rare condition that infiltrates mature fatty tissue into the intestinal submucosa and subserosa of the small or large intestine and can present with intestinal obstruction or torsion. This report is of the case of a 58-year-old woman who had acute torsion of the small bowel due to diffuse small intestinal lipomatosis. CASE REPORT A 58-year-old woman, who was otherwise in good health, arrived at our Emergency Department experiencing sudden, intense pain in the lower abdomen. She also reported abdominal swelling, feelings of nausea, vomiting, and reduced ability to defecate for at least 2 days. The next morning, contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan was performed, showing diffuse thickening of the small intestinal wall with hypodensity, fatty density, lumen narrowing, and wall thinning. The small intestine demonstrated a whirlpool-like distribution in the lower right abdomen and localized thickening of the small intestinal wall, suggesting acute intestinal torsion. An hour later, an emergency operation was performed to remove part of the small intestine. Three days later, pathological results showed a thin intestinal wall, expansion of the mucosal layer and submucosa, and hyperplasia of adipose tissue. CONCLUSIONS This report presents a rare case of torsion and small bowel obstruction caused by diffuse intestinal lipomatosis and focuses on the abdominal enhanced CT scan, which showed diffuse thickening of the small intestine, with multiple areas of fat density and torsion of the small intestine in the right lower abdomen. Histopathology is also presented, with the result showing intestinal lipomatosis.

Abstract
Neutrophil membrane-coated nanoparticles (NM-NPs) are nanomedicines with traits of mimicking the surface properties and functions of neutrophils, which are the most abundant type of white blood cells in the human body. NM-NPs have been widely used as targeted drug delivery systems for various inflammatory diseases, but their intrinsic effects on inflammation are not fully characterized yet. This study found that NM-NPs could modulate inflammation by multiple mechanisms without drug loading. NM-NPs could inhibit the recruitment of neutrophils and macrophages to the inflamed site by capturing chemokines and blocking their adhesion to inflamed endothelial cells. After internalized by macrophages and other phagocytic cells, NM-NPs could alter their phenotype by phosphatidylserine and simultaneously degrade the sequestered and neutralized cytokines and chemokines by lysosomal degradation. Under these effects, NM-NPs exhibited significant anti-inflammatory effects on LPS-induced inflammatory liver injury in vivo without drug loading. Our study unveiled the anti-inflammatory effects and mechanisms of NM-NPs without drug loading, and provided new insights and evidence for understanding their biological effects and safety, as well as developing more effective and safe targeted drug delivery systems.

Abstract
Electrochemical capacitors (ECs) play a crucial role in electrical energy storage, offering great potential for efficient energy storage and power management. However, they face challenges such as moderate energy densities and rapid self-discharge. Addressing self-discharge necessitates a fundamental understanding of the underlying processes. This review sets itself apart from other reviews by focusing on the basic principles of self-discharge processes in carbon-based ECs, particularly examining the nature of the process and the involvement of redox reactions. This study delineates the potential conditions for various self-discharge processes and proposes plausible criteria for differentiation, complemented by mathematical modeling. Additionally, the model selection, curve fitting, and effective tuning methods are explored to control self-discharge processes.

Abstract
The cancer therapeutic efficacy of the peroxidase (POD)-mimicking nanozyme-based monotherapy is significantly hindered due to insufficient intratumoral hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and glutathione (GSH) consumption effect on reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this study, we present the development of poly(o-phenylenediamine)@gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) (PoPD@Au) nanocomposites for multifunctional catalytic-photothermal therapy. These nanocomposites exhibit triple distinct nanozymatic activities, i.e., POD-like activity that catalyzes H2O2 to ROS, glucose oxidase (GOx)-like activity that supplements endogenous H2O2, and GSH depleting activity that decreases the ROS consumption efficiency. This open source and reduce expenditure strategy for ROS generation allows for the amplification of tumor oxidative stress, thereby enhancing anti-tumor efficiency. Additionally, the PoPD@Au nanocomposites demonstrate outstanding photothermal conversion efficiency, contributing to the synergistic effect between PoPD and AuNPs. Moreover, we reveal the improved photothermal performance of PoPD@Au triggered by the tumor microenvironment pH, which provides additional benefits for targeted catalytic-photothermal therapy. This "four-in-one" design of PoPD@Au enables efficient anti-tumor effects both in vitro and in vivo, making it a universal strategy for engineering catalytic-photothermal therapeutic nanoagents.

Abstract
Background The incidence density of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and the effect of a healthy lifestyle on the risk of MAFLD remain unknown. We evaluated the prevalence and incidence density of MAFLD and investigated the association between healthy lifestyle and the risk of MAFLD. Methods A cross-sectional analysis was conducted on 37,422 participants to explore the prevalence of MAFLD. A cohort analysis of 18,964 individuals was conducted to identify the incidence of MAFLD, as well as the association between healthy lifestyle and MAFLD. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to calculate the hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) with adjustments for confounding factors. Results The prevalence of MAFLD, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and their comorbidities were 30.38%, 28.09%, and 26.13%, respectively. After approximately 70 thousand person-years of follow-up, the incidence densities of the three conditions were 61.03, 55.49, and 51.64 per 1,000 person-years, respectively. Adherence to an overall healthy lifestyle was associated with a 19% decreased risk of MAFLD (HR, 0.81; 95% CI, 0.72 to 0.92), and the effects were modified by baseline age, sex, and body mass index (BMI). Subgroup analyses revealed that younger participants, men, and those with a lower BMI experienced more significant beneficial effects from healthy lifestyle. Conclusion Our results highlight the beneficial effect of adherence to a healthy lifestyle on the prevention of MAFLD. Health management for improving dietary intake, physical activity, and smoking and drinking habits are critical to improving MAFLD.

Abstract
Habitat loss and fragmentation per se have been shown to be a major threat to global biodiversity and ecosystem function. However, little is known about how habitat loss and fragmentation per se alters the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem function (BEF relationship) in the natural landscape context. Based on 130 landscapes identified by a stratified random sampling in the agro-pastoral ecotone of northern China, we investigated the effects of landscape context (habitat loss and fragmentation per se) on plant richness, above-ground biomass, and the relationship between them in grassland communities using a structural equation model. We found that habitat loss directly decreased plant richness and hence decreased above-ground biomass, while fragmentation per se directly increased plant richness and hence increased above-ground biomass. Fragmentation per se also directly decreased soil water content and hence decreased above-ground biomass. Meanwhile, habitat loss decreased the magnitude of the positive relationship between plant richness and above-ground biomass by reducing the percentage of grassland specialists in the community, while fragmentation per se had no significant modulating effect on this relationship. These results demonstrate that habitat loss and fragmentation per se have inconsistent effects on BEF, with the BEF relationship being modulated by landscape context. Our findings emphasise that habitat loss rather than fragmentation per se can weaken the positive BEF relationship by decreasing the degree of habitat specialisation of the community.

Abstract
Two-dimensional (2D) materials have attracted significant attention in recent decades due to their exceptional optoelectronic properties. Among them, to meet the growing demand for multifunctional applications, 2D organic-inorganic van der Waals (vdW) heterojunctions have become increasingly popular in the development of optoelectronic devices. These heterojunctions demonstrate impressive capability to synergistically combine the favourable characteristics of organic and inorganic materials, thereby offering a wide range of advantages. Also, they enable the creation of innovative device structures and introduce novel functionalities in existing 2D materials, avoiding the need for lattice matching in different material systems. Presently, researchers are actively working on improving the performance of devices based on 2D organic-inorganic vdW heterojunctions by focusing on enhancing the quality of 2D materials, precise stacking methods, energy band regulation, and material selection. Therefore, this review presents a thorough examination of the emerging 2D organic-inorganic vdW heterojunctions, including their classification, fabrication, and corresponding devices. Additionally, this review offers profound and comprehensive insight into the challenges in this field to inspire future research directions. It is expected to propel researchers to harness the extraordinary capabilities of 2D organic-inorganic vdW heterojunctions for a wider range of applications by further advancing the understanding of their fundamental properties, expanding the range of available materials, and exploring novel device architectures. The ongoing research and development in this field hold potential to unlock captivating advancements and foster practical applications across diverse industries.

Abstract
Acyl-CoA thioesterase 4 (ACOT4) has been reported to be related to acetyl-CoA carboxylase activity regulation; However, its exact functions in liver lipid and glucose metabolism are still unclear. Here, we discovered explored the regulatory roles of ACOT4 in hepatic lipid and glucose metabolism in vitro. We found that the expression level of ACOT4 was significantly increased in the hepatic of db/db and ob/ob mice as well as obese mice fed a high fat diet. Adenovirus-mediated overexpression of ACOT4 promoted gluconeogenesis and high-glucose/high-insulin-induced lipid accumulation and impaired insulin sensitivity in primary mouse hepatocytes, whereas ACOT4 knockdown notably suppressed gluconeogenesis and decreased the triglycerides accumulation in hepatocytes. Furthermore, ACOT4 knockdown increased insulin-induced phosphorylation of AKT and GSK-3β in primary mouse hepatocytes. Mechanistically, we found that upregulation of ACOT4 expression inhibited AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activity, and its knockdown had the opposite effect. However, activator A769662 and inhibitor compound C of AMPK suppressed the impact of the change in ACOT4 expression on AMPK activity. Our data indicated that ACOT4 is related to hepatic glucose and lipid metabolism, primarily via the regulation of AMPK activity. In conclusion, ACOT4 is a potential target for the therapy of non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFLD) and type 2 diabetes.

Abstract
Myofibrillar protein (MP) is susceptible to the effect of ionic strength and ultra-high pressure (UHP) treatment, respectively. However, the impact of UHP combined with ionic strength on the structure and in vitro digestibility of MP from scallop mantle (Patinopecten yessoensis) is not yet clear. Therefore, it is particularly important to analyze the structural properties and enhance the in vitro digestibility of MP by NaCl and UHP treatment. The findings demonstrated that as ionic strength increased, the α-helix and β-sheet gradually transformed into β-turn and random coil. The decrease of endogenous fluorescence intensity indicated the formation of a more stable tertiary structure. Additionally, the exposure of internal sulfhydryl groups increased the amount of total sulfhydryl content, and reactive sulfhydryl groups gradually transformed into disulfide bonds. Moreover, it reduces aggregation through increased solubility, decreased turbidity, particle sizes, and a relatively dense and uniform microstructure. When MP from the scallop mantle was treated with 0.5 mol/L ionic strength and 200 MPa UHP treatment, it had the highest solubility (90.75 ± 0.13%) and the lowest turbidity (0.41 ± 0.03). The scallop mantle MP with NaCl of 0.3 mol/L and UHP treatment had optimal in vitro digestibility (95.14 ± 2.01%). The findings may offer a fresh perspectives for developing functional foods for patients with dyspepsia and a theoretical foundation for the comprehensive utilization of scallop mantle by-products with low concentrations of NaCl.

Abstract
Cancer metastasis is the main cause of cancer-related deaths and involves the interaction between tumor cells and neutrophils. In this study, we developed activated neutrophil membrane-coated nanoparticles (aNEM NPs) as nanodecoys to block neutrophil-mediated cancer metastasis. The aNEM NPs were fabricated by cloaking poly(lactic acid) nanoparticles with membranes derived from activated neutrophils and inherited the functional proteins of activated neutrophils. We demonstrated that aNEM NPs could interfere with the recruitment of neutrophils to the primary tumor and premetastatic niches, inhibit the adhesion of neutrophils to tumor vascular endothelium and circulating tumor cells (CTCs), and disrupt the formation of CTC-neutrophil clusters in vitro and in vivo. In 4T1-bearing mice, aNEM NPs could effectively reduce breast cancer metastasis to various organs in mice. Our results suggest that aNEM NPs are a promising nanomedicine for preventing or treating cancer metastasis by acting as neutrophil nanodecoys.

Abstract
Addressing the repair of large-scale bone defects has become a hot research topic within the field of orthopedics. This study assessed the feasibility and effectiveness of using porous tantalum scaffolds to treat such defects. These scaffolds, manufactured using the selective laser melting (SLM) technology, possessed biomechanical properties compatible with natural bone tissue. To enhance the osteogenesis bioactivity of these porous Ta scaffolds, we applied calcium phosphate (CaP) and magnesium-doped calcium phosphate (Mg-CaP) coatings to the surface of SLM Ta scaffolds through a hydrothermal method. These degradable coatings released calcium and magnesium ions, demonstrating osteogenic bioactivity. Experimental results indicated that the Mg-CaP group exhibited biocompatibility comparable to that of the Ta group in vivo and in vitro. In terms of osteogenesis, both the CaP group and the Mg-CaP group showed improved outcomes compared to the control group, with the Mg-CaP group demonstrating superior performance. Therefore, both CaP and magnesium-CaP coatings can significantly enhance the osseointegration of three-dimensional-printed porous Ta, thereby increasing the surface bioactivity. Overall, the present study introduces an innovative approach for the biofunctionalization of SLM porous Ta, aiming to enhance its suitability as a bone implant material.

Abstract
Osteoporosis is characterized by an imbalance between osteoclast-mediated bone resorption and osteoblast-related bone formation, particularly increased osteoclastogenesis. However, the mechanisms by which epigenetic factors regulate osteoclast precursor differentiation during osteoclastogenesis remain poorly understood. Here, we show that the specific knockout of the chromatin remodeling factor Arid1a in bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) results in increased bone mass. The loss of Arid1a in BMDM inhibits cell-cell fusion and maturation of osteoclast precursors, thereby suppressing osteoclast differentiation. Mechanistically, Arid1a increases the chromatin access in the gene promoter region of sialic acid-binding Ig-like lectin 15 (Siglec15) by transcription factor Jun/Fos, which results in the upregulation of Siglec15 and promotion of osteoclast differentiation. However, the loss of Arid1a reprograms the chromatin structure to restrict Siglec15 expression in osteoclast precursors, thereby inhibiting BMDM differentiation into mature osteoclasts. Deleting Arid1a after ovariectomy (a model for postmenopausal bone loss) alleviated bone loss and maintained bone mass. In summary, epigenetic reprogramming mediated by Arid1a loss suppresses osteoclast differentiation and may serve as a promising therapeutic strategy for treating bone loss diseases.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the impact of preemptive analgesia with ibuprofen on postoperative pain following the extraction of impacted mandibular third molars in a Chinese population, aiming to provide a clinical reference for its application. Methods: This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel-group trial was conducted from April 2022 to October 2023 at the Capital Medical University School of Stomatology (40 cases), Beijing TianTan Hospital, Capital Medical University (22 cases), and Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital, Capital Medical University (20 cases). It included 82 patients with impacted mandibular third molars, with 41 in the ibuprofen group and 41 in the control group. Participants in the ibuprofen group received 300 mg of sustained-release ibuprofen capsules orally 15 min before surgery, while the control group received a placebo. Both groups were instructed to take sustained-release ibuprofen capsules as planned for 3 days post-surgery. Pain intensity was measured using the numerical rating scale at 30 min, 4 h, 6 h, 8 h, 24 h, 48 h, and 72 h after surgery, and the use of additional analgesic medication was recorded during days 4 to 6 postoperatively. Results: All 82 patients completed the study according to the protocol. No adverse events such as nausea, vomiting, or allergies were reported in either group during the trial. The ibuprofen group exhibited significantly lower pain scores at 4 h [2.0 (1.0, 4.0) vs. 4.0 (3.0, 5.0)] (Z=-3.73, P<0.001), 6 h [2.0 (1.0, 4.0) vs. 5.0(2.5, 6.0)] (Z=-3.38, P<0.001), and 8 h [2.0 (1.0, 4.0) vs. 5.0 (2.0, 6.0)] (Z=-2.11, P=0.035) postoperatively compared to the control group. There were no statistically significant differences in pain scores between the groups at 30 min, 24 h, 48 h, and 72 h postoperatively (P>0.05). Additionally, 11 out of 41 patients (26.8%) in the ibuprofen group and 23 out of 41 patients (56.1%) in the control group required extra analgesic medication between days 4 and 6 post-surgery, with the ibuprofen group taking significantly fewer additional pills [0.0 (0.0, 1.0) vs. 1.0 (0.0, 3.0)] (Z=-2.81, P=0.005). Conclusions: A pain management regimen involving 300 mg of oral sustained-release ibuprofen capsules administered 15 minutes before surgery and continued for 3 d postoperatively effectively reduces pain levels and the total amount of analgesic medication used after the extraction of impacted mandibular third molars. Considering its efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness, ibuprofen is recommended as a first-line drug for perioperative pain management, enhancing patient comfort during diagnosis and treatment in a feasible manner.

Abstract
Continuous emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants urges the development of new vaccines. We assessed the safety and immunogenicity of SYS6006.32, a bivalent vaccine (XBB.1.5/BQ.1), in healthy adults who had received SARS-CoV-2 primary vaccination. In a randomised, double-blinded, active-controlled trial, 200 participants were randomised to receive one dose of SYS6006.32 (N = 100) or a prototype-based, monovalent control vaccine SYS6006 (N = 100). Adverse events (AEs) were collected through the study. Immunogenicity was assessed by live-virus neutralising antibody (Nab) and pseudovirus Nab. 61 (61.0 %) and 60 (60.0 %) participants reported AE in the SYS6006.32 and SYS6006 groups, respectively. Most AEs were grade 1 or 2. Pain and fever were the most common injection-site and systemic AEs, respectively. No serious AEs were observed. SYS6006.32 heterologous boosting induced robust Nab responses against BA.5, XBB.1.5 and EG.5 with live-virus Nab geometric mean titres (GMTs) increased by 17.1-, 34.0-, and 48.0-fold, and pseudovirus Nab GMTs increased by 12.2-, 32.0-, and 35.1-fold, respectively, 14 days after vaccination. SYS6006.32 demonstrated a superior immunogenicity to SYS6006. SYS6006.32 also induced robust pseudovirus Nab responses against XBB.1.16, XBB.2.3, and BA.2.86, with GMTs 3- to 6-fold higher than those induced by SYS6006. In conclusion, SYS6006.32 showed good safety profile and superior immunogenicity to the monovalent vaccine SYS6006.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to explore the effects of geriatric experience training on nurses from multiple primary healthcare units in the context of population aging. The study also evaluated the impact of this training on improving nurses' cognitive abilities in preventing falls/bedside accidents in elderly patients and implementing safe nursing practices to reduce the incidence of falls/bedside accidents. Methods A total of 302 nurses involved in geriatric care from 18 primary healthcare units in the region were randomly categorized into 2 groups on a 1:1 basis. The control group received regular training on falls/bedside accident prevention for patients, whereas the observation group received additional geriatric experience training along with the regular training. Further, 420 elderly patients who experienced moderate-to-severe falls/bedside accidents between February and July 2022, with a Morse Fall Scale (MFS) score of ≥25 were randomly assigned to either the observation or control group on a 1:1 basis. This study compared the 2 groups in terms of nurses' awareness of falls/bedside accident risks, incidence of falls/bedside accidents in patients and patient satisfaction with fall/bedside accident prevention care. Results No statistically significant differences were observed (P > .05) between the 2 groups of nurses, except in their awareness of the aging population and the increased risk for falls/bedside accidents in elderly patients. However, the observation group nurses scored higher in other aspects of falls/bedside accident risk awareness after undergoing geriatric experience training (P < .05). The incidence of falls/bedside accidents was significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group (P < .05). Patient satisfaction with falls/bedside accident prevention care was significantly higher in the observation group compared with the control group (P < .05). Conclusion Geriatric experience training for nurses in multiple primary healthcare units in the region could effectively improve the capabilities of primary hospitals in preventing falls/bedside accidents.

Abstract
Xylene exposure is known to induce toxicity in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs), leading to bone marrow suppression and potential leukemogenesis. However, research on the gene expression profiles associated with xylene-induced toxicity in HSPCs, and effective therapeutic interventions, remains scarce. In our study, we employed single-cell RNA sequencing to capture the transcriptomic shifts within bone marrow HSPCs both prior to and following treatment with coniferyl ferulate (CF) in a mouse model of xylene-induced hematotoxicity. Subsequently, we pinpointed CF as a targeted agent using SPR-LC/MS analysis. This enabled us to confirm the link between the gene Mgst2 and specific cellular subtypes. Our data revealed that CF significantly countered the reduction of both monocyte and neutrophil progenitor cells, which are commonly affected by xylene toxicity. Through targeted analysis, we identified Mgst2 as a direct molecular target of CF. Notably, Mgst2 is preferentially expressed in neutrophil progenitor cells and is implicated in mitochondrial metabolic processes. By selectively inhibiting Mgst2 in bone marrow, we observed amelioration of xylene-induced hematotoxic effects. In summary, our findings suggest that coniferyl ferulate can mitigate the detrimental impact of xylene on hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells by targeting Mgst2, particularly within subpopulations of neutrophil progenitors. This discovery not only advances our comprehension of the cellular response of HSPCs to xenobiotic stressors like xylene but also identifies CF and Mgst2 as potential therapeutic targets for alleviating xylene-induced hematotoxicity.

Abstract
CONTEXT Increased adherence to a traditional Chinese diet (TCD) could reduce the increasing prevalence of noncommunicable diseases. Currently, there is no consistent definition of the TCD in the literature, and its associations with health outcomes have not yet been identified. OBJECTIVE This systematic review aimed to assess the definition of the TCD, in the literature, and to evaluate whether the TCD, as described, is associated with health outcomes. DATA SOURCES Fourteen databases were searched up to April 25, 2022. DATA EXTRACTION Three reviewers (in pairs) independently screened and extracted data. A modified risk-of-bias tool was used to assess the quality of the studies assessing the TCD definition; the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and the Cochrane Risk-of-Bias tool were used to assess the quality of the observational studies and randomized controlled trials assessing associations between the TCD and health outcomes. DATA ANALYSIS Ninety-nine studies were identified that assessed the TCD definition. In at least 75% of the studies, rice and leafy vegetables were consistently reported as food groups that characterize the TCD; the most frequently cited food items were white rice, spinach, bokchoy, and cabbage. Fish and seafood, pork, and pork products were consistently reported in studies exclusively referring to the TCD consumed in southern China (n = 21 studies), whereas wheat and wheat products were commonly reported in studies focusing on northern China (n = 14 studies). Fifteen studies reported on the quantities of food groups that are characteristic of the TCD, but their findings were inconsistent. Of the 99 studies, 54 assessed associations with health outcomes. The TCD was overall inversely associated with obesity risk and weight gain, while relationships between the TCD and other health outcomes were inconsistent. CONCLUSION Further studies are needed to determine the quantities of foods consumed in the TCD and to establish a consistent definition for further exploration of the TCD's potential role in preventing non-communicable diseases.

Abstract
A dual-mode sensor was developed for detecting acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) via bifunctional BSA-CeO2 nanoclusters (NCs) with oxidase-mimetic activity and fluorescence property. The dual-mode sensor has the characteristics of self-calibration and self-verification, meeting the needs of different detection conditions and provide more accurate results. The colorimetric sensor and fluorescence sensor have been successfully used for detecting AChE with limit of detection (LOD) of 0.081 mU/mL and 0.056 mU/mL, respectively, while the LOD for OPs were 0.9 ng/mL and 0.78 ng/mL, respectively. The recovery of AChE was 93.9-107.2% and of OPs was 95.8-105.0% in actual samples. A novel strategy was developed to monitor pesticide residues and detect AChE level, which will motivate future work to explore the potential applications of multifunctional nanozymes.

Abstract
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) mRNA vaccine enables quick upgrade of antigen sequence to combat emerging new variants. In an observer-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled phase 2 trial, immunologically naïve 300 adults and 150 older participants were enrolled and randomized (1:1:1) to receive two doses of 20 µg or 30 µg of a SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine (SYS6006) or placebo. Adverse events (AEs) were recorded through 30 days after the second dose. Live virus neutralizing antibody (Nab), S1 protein-specific binding antibody (S1-IgG) and cellular immunity were tested. Results showed that robust wild-type Nab response was elicited with geometric mean titers of 91.3 and 84.9 in the adults, and 74.0 and 115.9 in the elders, 14 days following the second dose (Day 35) in the 20-µg and 30-µg groups, respectively. All seroconverted for wild-type Nab except two participants. Nab against Omicron BA.5 was mild. Robust wild-type S1-IgG response was induced with geometric mean concentrations of 2751.0 and 3142.2 BAU/mL in adults, and 2474.1 and 2993.5 BAU/mL in elders at Day 35 in the 20-µg and 30-µg groups, respectively. S1-IgG against Omicron BA.2 was induced. Cellular immunity was elicited, particularly in enzyme-linked immunospot assay. The most frequent AEs were injection-site pain and fever. Most reported AEs were grade 1 or grade 2. The AE incidences were similar following the first dose and second dose. No vaccination-associated serious AE was reported. In conclusion, two-dose vaccination with SYS6006 demonstrated good safety, tolerability and immunogenicity in immunologically naïve healthy participants aged 18 years or more.

Abstract
Background Our center proposes a new technique that effectively provides space to broaden the surgical field of view and overcomes the limitations of endoscopy-assisted nipple-sparing mastectomy (E-NSM) by changing the dissection sequence and combining it with air inflation. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of the new technique designated "reverse-sequence endoscopic nipple-sparing mastectomy (R-E-NSM) with subpectoral breast reconstruction (SBR)" and the conventional E-NSM (C-E-NSM) with SBR. Method All patients undergoing E-NSM with SBR at our breast center between April 2017 and December 2022 were included in this study. The cohort was divided into the C-E-NSM group and the R-E-NSM group. The operation time, anesthesia time, medical cost, complications, cosmetic outcomes, and oncological safety were compared. Results Twenty-six and seventy-nine consecutive patients were included in the C-E-NSM and R-E-NSM groups, with average ages of 36.9 ± 7.0 years and 39.7 ± 8.4 years (P=0.128). Patients in the R-E-NSM group had significantly shorter operation time (204.6 ± 59.2 vs. 318.9 ± 75.5 minutes, p<0.001) and anesthesia time (279.4 ± 83.9 vs. 408.9 ± 87.4 minutes, p<0.001) and decreased medical costs [5063.4 (4439.6-6532.3) vs. 6404.2 (5152.5-7981.5), USD, p=0.001] and increase SCAR-Q scores (77.2 ± 17.1 vs. 68.8 ± 8.7, P=0.002) compared to the C-E-NSM group. Although trends increased in both the excellent rate of Ueda scores (53.8% vs. 42.3%, P = 0.144), excellent rate of Harris scores (44.0% vs. 63.1%, P=0.102), and decreased surgical complications (7.6% vs. 19.2%, P = 0.135) were observed in the R-E-NSM group, the differences were not significant. There were no significant differences in oncological outcomes between the two groups. Conclusion R-E-NSM improves cosmetic outcomes and efficiency of C-E-NSM, reduces medical costs, and has a trend of lower surgical complications while maintaining the safety of oncology. It is a safe and feasible option for oncological procedures that deserves to be promoted and widely adopted in practice.

Abstract
Soil microbial communities are essential to biogeochemical cycles. However, the responses of microorganisms in volcanic soil with high heavy metal levels remain poorly understood. Here, two areas with high levels of cadmium (Cd) from the same volcano were investigated to determine their archaeal composition and assembly. In this study, the Cd concentrations (0.32-0.38 mg/ kg) in the volcanic soils exceeded the standard risk screening values (GB15618-2018) and correlated with archaeal communities strongly (P < 0.05). Moreover, the area with elevated levels of Cd (periphery) exhibited a greater diversity of archaeal species, albeit with reduced archaeal activity, compared to the area with lower levels of Cd (center). Besides, stochastic processes mainly governed the archaeal communities. Furthermore, the co-occurrence network was simplest in the periphery. The proportion of positive links between taxa increased positively with Cd concentration. Moreover, four keystone taxa (all from the family Nitrososphaeraceae) were identified from the archaeal networks. In its entirety, this study has expanded our comprehension of the variations of soil archaeal communities in volcanic areas with elevated cadmium levels and serves as a point of reference for the agricultural development of volcanic soils in China.

Abstract
External electric fields are an effective tool to induce phase transformations. The crystallization of ionic crystals from solution is a common phase transformation. However, understanding of mechanisms is poor at the molecular level. In this work, we carried out an experimental and theoretical investigation of the external electric-field-induced crystallization of TKX-50 from saturated formic acid solution by finite-temperature string (FTS) with order parameters (OPs) as collective variables for ionic crystals. The minimum-free-energy path was sketched by the string method in collective variables. The results show that the K-means clustering algorithm based on Euclidean distance and density weights can be used for enhanced sampling of the OPs in external electric-field-induced crystallization of ionic crystal from solution, which improves the conventional FTS. The crystallization from solution is a process of surface-mediated nucleation. The external electric field can accelerate the evolution of the string and decrease the difference in the potential of mean forces between the crystal and the transition state. Due to the significant change in OPs induced by the external electric field in nucleation, the crystalline quality was enhanced, which explains the experimental results that the external electric field enhanced the density, detonation velocity, and detonation pressure of TKX-50. This work provides an effective way to explore the crystallization of ionic crystals from solution at the molecular level, and it is useful for improving the properties of ionic crystal explosives by using external electric fields.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AMPK is considered an important protein signaling pathway that has been shown to exert prominent cardioprotective effects on the pathophysiological mechanisms of numerous diseases. Following myocardial infarction, severe impairment of cardiac function occurs, leading to complications such as heart failure and arrhythmia. Therefore, protecting the heart and improving cardiac function are important therapeutic goals after myocardial infarction. Currently, there is substantial ongoing research on exercise-centered rehabilitation training, positioning exercise training as a significant nonpharmacological approach for preventing and treating numerous cardiovascular diseases. OBJECTIVE Previous studies have reported that exercise can activate AMPK phosphorylation and upregulate the AMPK signaling pathway to play a cardioprotective role in coronary artery disease, but the specific mechanism involved remains to be elucidated. CONCLUSION This review discusses the role and mechanism of the exercise-mediated AMPK pathway in improving postinfarction cardiac function through existing studies and describes the mechanism of exercise-induced myocardial repair of AMPK from multiple perspectives to formulate a reasonable and optimal exercise rehabilitation program for the prevention and treatment of myocardial infarction patients in the clinic.

Abstract
Methylation of the promoters of SHOX2 and RASSF1A (LungMe®) exhibits promise as a potential molecular biomarker for diagnosing lung cancer. This study sought to assess the aberrant methylation of SHOX2 and RASSF1A in broncho-exfoliated cells (BEC) and compare it with conventional cytology, histology examination, immunohistochemistry, and serum tumor markers to evaluate the overall diagnostic efficiency for lung cancer. This study recruited 240 patients, including 185 malignant cases and 55 benign cases. In our observation, we noted a slight reduction in the detection sensitivity, however, the ΔCt method exhibited a significant enhancement in specificity when compared to Ct judgment. Consequently, the ΔCt method proves to be a more appropriate approach for interpreting methylation results. The diagnostic sensitivity of cytology and histology was in ranged from 20.0%-35.1% and 42.9%-80%, respectively, while the positive detection rate of LungMe® methylation ranged from 70.0% to 100%. Additionally, our findings indicate a higher prevalence of SHOX2( +) among patients exhibiting medium and high expression of Ki67 (P < 0.01), as opposed to those with low expression of Ki67, but RASSF1A methylation did not show this phenomenon (P = 0.35). Furthermore, CEA, SCCA, and CYFRA21-1 showed positive detection rates of 48.8%, 26.2%, and 55.8%, respectively. Finally, we present a comprehensive lung cancer diagnostic work-up, including LumgMe® methylation. The combined analysis of SHOX2 and RASSF1A methylation serves as a powerful complement and extension to conventional methods, enhancing the accuracy of a lung cancer diagnosis with satisfactory sensitivity and specificity.

Abstract
Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels exhibit great potential as ideal biomaterials for tissue engineering, owing to their non-toxicity, high water content, and strong biocompatibility. However, limited mechanical strength and low bioactivity have constrained their application in bone tissue engineering. In this study, we have developed a tough PVA-based hydrogel using a facile physical crosslinking method, comprising of PVA, tannic acid (TA), and hydroxyapatite (HA). Systematic experiments were conducted to examine the physicochemical properties of PVA/HA/TA hydrogels, including their compositions, microstructures, and mechanical and rheological properties. The results demonstrated that the PVA/HA/TA hydrogels possessed the porous microstructures and excellent mechanical properties. Furthermore, collagen type I (ColI) was used to further improve the biocompatibility and bioactivity of PVA/HA/TA hydrogels. In vitro experiments revealed that PVA/HA/TA/COL hydrogel could offer a suitable microenvironment for the growth of MC3T3-E1 cells and promote their osteogenic differentiation. Meanwhile, the PVA/HA/TA/COL hydrogel demonstrated the ability to promote bone regeneration and osteointegration in a rat femoral defect model. This study provides a potential strategy for the use of PVA-based hydrogels in bone tissue engineering.

Abstract
Sodium lignosulfonate, an abundant natural resource, is regarded as an ideal precursor for the synthesis of hard carbon. The development of high-performance, low-cost and sustainable anode materials is a significant challenge facing lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). The modulation of morphology and defect structure during thermal transformation is crucial to improve Li+ storage behavior. Synthesized using sodium lignosulfonate as a precursor, two-dimensional carbon nanosheets with a high density of defects were produced. The synergistic influence of ice templates and KCl was leveraged, where the ice prevented clumping of potassium chloride during drying, and the latter served as a skeletal support during pyrolysis. This resulted in the formation of an interconnected two-dimensional nanosheet structure through the combined action of both templates. The optimized sample has a charging capacity of 712.4 mA h g-1 at 0.1 A g-1, which is contributed by the slope region. After 200 cycles at 0.2 A g-1, the specific charge capacity remains 514.4 mA h g-1, and a high specific charge capacity of 333.8 mA h g-1 after 800 cycles at 2 A g-1. The proposed investigation offers a promising approach for developing high-performance, low-cost carbon-based anode materials that could be used in advanced lithium-ion batteries.

Abstract
AIM This study aimed to explore the causal association between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D) based on a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study. METHODS Summary single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-phenotype association data were obtained from published two genome-wide association studies (GWAS) including SNPs related to IBD, UC, or CD in European participants (n = 71,997) and East Asian participants (n = 16,805). Two GWAS including SNPs associated with T2D included 655,666 Europeans and 433,540 East Asians. A series of screening processes were performed to select qualified instrumental SNPs strongly related to exposure. We applied the inverse variance weighted (IVW), the MR-Egger regression, and the weighted median to estimate the causal effects of IBD, ulcerative colitis (UC) or Crohn' disease (CD) on T2D. Cochran's Q test was conducted to evaluate the statistical heterogeneity between SNPs in the IVW method. The leave-one-out analysis was employed to assess whether the results were caused by any single SNP associated with IBD, UC, or CD. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated. RESULTS The IVW results demonstrated that IBD could increase the risk of T2D in the European population (OR = 1.0230, 95%CI: 1.0073-1.0390). UC was positively associated with the risk of T2D according to the weighted median (OR = 1.0274, 95%CI: 1.0009-1.0546) and IVW (OR = 1.0244, 95%CI: 1.0071-1.0421) results in the European population. The IVW results indicated that the CD was positively associated with the risk of T2D in the European population (OR = 1.0187, 95%CI: 1.0045-1.0330). In the East Asian population, there are no associations between the IBD, UC, or CD and the risk of T2D (all P > 0.05). MVMR results revealed that the causal effect UC on T2D was still statistically significant after including body mass index (BMI) or low-density lipoprotein (LDL). CONCLUSION IBD, UC, or CD had causal effects on the risk of T2D in the European population, which might provide evidence for the prevention of T2D in patients with IBD, UC, or CD.

Abstract
ATP citrate lyase (ACLY), as a key enzyme in lipid metabolism, plays an important role in energy metabolism and lipid biosynthesis of a variety of tumours. Many studies have shown that ACLY is highly expressed in various tumours, and its pharmacological or gene inhibition significantly inhibits tumour growth and progression. However, the roles of ACLY in oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remain unclear. Here, our data showed that ACLY inhibitor significantly attenuated cell proliferation, migration, invasion and lipid synthesis in different ESCC cell lines, whereas the proliferation, migration, invasion and lipid synthesis of ESCC cells were enhanced after ACLY overexpression. Furthermore, ACLY inhibitor dramatically suppressed tumour growth and lipid metabolism in ESCC cells xenografted tumour model, whereas ACLY overexpression displayed the opposite effect. Mechanistically, ACLY protein harboured acetylated modification and interacted with SIRT2 protein in ESCC cells. The SIRT2 inhibitor AGK2 significantly increased the acetylation level of ACLY protein and inhibited the proliferation and migration of ESCC cells, while overexpression of ACLY partially reversed the inhibitory effect of AGK2 on ESCC cells. Overall, these results suggest that targeting the SIRT2/ACLY signalling axis may be a potential therapeutic strategy for ESCC patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the feasibility and safety of employing a Eustachian tube video endoscope with a supporting balloon as a viable treatment and examination option for patients with Eustachian tube dysfunction. METHODS A study involving nine fresh human cadaver heads was conducted to investigate the potential of balloon dilatation Eustachian tuboplasty using a Eustachian tube video endoscope and a supporting balloon catheter. The Eustachian tube cavity was examined with the Eustachian tube video endoscope during the procedure, which involved the dilatation of the cartilaginous portion of the Eustachian tube with the supporting balloon catheter. RESULTS The utilisation of the Eustachian tube video endoscope in conjunction with the supporting balloon catheter demonstrated technical ease during the procedure, with no observed damage to essential structures, particularly the Eustachian tube cavity. CONCLUSION This newly introduced method of dilatation and examination of the Eustachian tube cavity using a Eustachian tube video endoscope and the supporting balloon is a feasible, safe procedure.

Abstract
Growing evidence has proven the efficacy of physical exercise in remyelination and motor function performance after spinal cord injury (SCI). However, the molecular mechanisms of treadmill training on myelin repair and functional recovery after SCI have not yet been fully studied. Here, we explored the effect of treadmill training on upregulating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1 alpha (PGC1α)-mediated myelin repair and functional recovery in a mouse model of thoracic T10 contusion injury. A 4-week treadmill training scheme was conducted on mice with SCI. The expression levels of oligodendrogenesis-related protein and PGC1α were detected by immunofluorescence, RNA fluorescence in situ hybridization and western blotting. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to observe myelin structure. The Basso Mouse Scale (BMS) and CatWalk automated gait analysis system were used for motor function recovery evaluation. Motor evoked potentials (MEPs) were also identified. In addition, adeno-associated virus (AAV)-mediated PGC1α knockdown in OLs was used to further unravel the role of PGC1α in exercise-induced remyelination. We found that treadmill training boosts oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) proliferation, potentiates oligodendrocytes (OLs) maturation, and increases myelin-related protein and myelin sheath thickness, thus impelling myelin repair and hindlimb functional performance as well as the speed and amplitude of nerve conduction after SCI. Additionally, downregulating PGC1α through AAV attenuated these positive effects of treadmill training. Collectively, our results suggest that treadmill training enhances remyelination and functional recovery by upregulating PGC1α, which should provide a step forward in the understanding of the effects of physical exercise on myelin repair.

Abstract
Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are important for the occurrence of signaling molecules and maintenance of microenvironment within the extracellular matrix (ECM) in living tissues. GAGs and GAG-based biomaterial approaches have been widely explored to promote in situ tissue regeneration and repair by regulating the wound microenvironment, accelerating re-epithelialization, and controlling ECM remodeling. However, most approaches remain unacceptable for clinical applications. To improve insights into material design and clinical translational applications, this review highlights the innate roles and bioactive mechanisms of native GAGs during in situ wound healing and presents common GAG-based biomaterials and the adaptability of application scenarios in facilitating wound healing. Furthermore, challenges before the widespread commercialization of GAG-based biomaterials are shared, to ensure that future designed and constructed GAG-based artificial biomaterials are more likely to recapitulate the unique and tissue-specific profile of native GAG expression in human tissues. This review provides a more explicit and clear selection guide for researchers designing biomimetic materials, which will resemble or exceed their natural counterparts in certain functions, thereby suiting for specific environments or therapeutic goals.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Tangzhiqing decoction (TZQD) is an effective prescription developed by Jiangsu Province Hospital of Chinese Medicine for the treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM) and its complications, which has a clear cerebral protective effect on mice with diabetic cognitive dysfunction, but its specific mechanism has not been well elucidated. AIMS OF THE STUDY This study aims to verify the protection of TZQD on cognitive function in mice with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and explore the possible underlying mechanisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS Six active ingredients in TZQD were detected using high-performance liquid chromatography analysis. In vivo experiments, the protection of TZQD on cognitive function and hippocampal neurons in type 2 diabetes mice was verified to obtain the optimal intervention dose of TZQD. TZQD and 3-methyladenine (3 MA) respectively or jointly intervened in mice with T2DM for 12 weeks, followed by detecting the cognitive difference, hippocampus cornu ammonis 1 (CA1) region injury, and hippocampal neuronal apoptosis in each group. Simultaneously, the investigation of autophagosome formation and organelle impairment in hippocampal neurons, along with the examination of AMPK/mTOR pathway proteins and autophagy-related proteins, was conducted to elucidate the potential mechanisms, through which TZQD modulates autophagy and enhances cognitive function. In vitro experiments, TZQD-containing serum and AMPK inhibitor Compound C (CC) were used to intervene in mouse hippocampal neuron HT22 cells under high glucose environment, further clarifying the regulatory role of TZQD on the AMPK/mTOR pathway and its impact on HT22 cell apoptosis and autophagy. RESULTS In vivo experiment results showed that TZQD had an obvious hypoglycemic effect. Different doses of TZQD could improve cognitive function and hippocampus damage in diabetes mice, with the middle dose of TZQD showing the best effect. TZQD increased the swimming speed of diabetes mice, improved their spatial recognition and memory ability, and reduced hippocampal neuronal apoptosis, Nissl body injury, and p-tau217 protein deposition. In addition, through transmission electron microscopy (TEM), immunofluorescence, and Western blot (WB) detection, TZQD significantly improved the organelle damage of hippocampal neurons in diabetes mice, promoted the formation of autophagy lysosomes, increased the expression of autophagy-related proteins like Beclin 1, LC3II/LC3I, LAMP1, and LAMP2, reduced the level of P62 and promoted autophagy flow, which, however, were all significantly weakened by 3 MA. Meanwhile, TZQD regulated the expressions of AMPK/mTOR pathway proteins. In vitro experimental study results showed that TZQD can regulate the expression ratio of p-AMPK/AMPK alpha 1 and p-mTOR/mTOR in HT22 cells under high glucose conditions and improved the morphology and vitality of HT22 cells. By employing techniques such as monodansylcadaverine (MDC) staining, Lysosomal red fluorescent probe staining, and Annexin V-FITC/PI double staining, the investigation revealed that TZQD administration resulted in enhanced autophagosome formation, preservation of a lysosomal acidic milieu, and consequent mitigation of HT22 cell apoptosis under high glucose conditions. CONCLUSIONS TZQD can regulate the AMPK/mTOR pathway to activate autophagy to attenuate hippocampal neuronal apoptosis, thereby protecting cognitive function in diabetic mice.

Understanding factors driving soil multifunctionality can help with terrestrial ecosystem restoration. Soil microbial diversity and network complexity are two important factors influencing ecosystem multifunctionality. However, their effects on soil multifunctionality are still unclear. Based on high-throughput sequencing, we analyzed soil microbial alpha diversity and network complexity and their relative impacts on soil multifunctionality during the aerial seeding restoration process from 1983 to 2017 in Mu Us sandy land, China, a region threatened by desertification. Our results showed soil bacterial and fungal alpha diversity and multifunctionality increased with aerial seeding restoration. We found the community composition of soil bacteria and fungi changed with restoration periods. The keystone species of the soil bacterial network changed during restoration, while those of the soil fungal network remained unchanged. Soil bacterial and fungal species mainly maintained positive associations throughout the restoration periods. Soil bacterial network complexity initially decreased before increasing with restoration, while soil fungal network complexity increased continuously. Soil multifunctionality was found to have significantly positive correlations with soil fungal network complexity and soil bacterial alpha diversity. Compared with soil fungal alpha diversity and soil microbial network complexity, soil bacterial alpha diversity significantly promoted soil multifunctionality. Our research highlights the critical impact that soil bacterial alpha diversity plays in soil multifunctionality in restored ecosystems threatened by desertification.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This prospective clinical study aims to investigate the fluctuations of neurotransmitters in peripheral venous blood during the perioperative period and to identify independent predictors for postoperative neurogenic pulmonary oedema (NPE) in patients with medulla oblongata-involved tumours. MATERIALS AND METHODS Peripheral venous blood samples of the enroled patients at seven perioperative time points, as well as their medical records and radiologic data were collected. High-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was utilized to detect the concentrations of 39 neurotransmitters in these samples. The study applied univariate and multivariate generalized estimating equation (GEE) logistic regression analyses to explore independent predictors of postoperative NPE, and one-way repeated-measures ANOVA to compare the concentrations of the same neurotransmitter at different perioperative time points. RESULTS The study included 36 patients with medulla oblongata-involved tumours from January to December 2019, and found that 13.9% of them experienced postoperative NPE. The absence of intraoperative use of sevoflurane ( P =0.008), decreased concentrations of arginine ( P =0.026) and homoarginine ( P =0.030), and prolonged postoperative tracheal extubation ( P <0.001) were identified as independent risk factors for postoperative NPE in medulla oblongata-involved tumour patients. Pairwise comparison analysis revealed that the perioperative decreases in arginine and homoarginine concentrations mainly occurred within the postoperative 8 h. CONCLUSION This study demonstrates that NPE is not uncommon in patients with medulla oblongata-involved tumours. The absence of intraoperative use of sevoflurane, decreased concentrations of plasmatic arginine and homoarginine, and prolonged postoperative tracheal extubation are independent predictors of postoperative NPE. These two neurotransmitters' concentrations dropped mainly within the early postoperative hours and could serve as potential early warning indicators of postoperative NPE in clinical practice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Report three cases of simultaneous triple semicircular canal occlusion (TSCO) and cochlear implantation (CI) as the treatment of intractable Meniere's disease (MD). CASE REPORTS Patients with MD can present occasionally with intractable vertigo and profound sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). TSCO and CI have been proposed to control vertigo and restore profound deafness in patients with MD separately. However, a few studies have reported simultaneous TSCO and CI in the same surgical procedure for the treatment of MD. In the present study, we described three patients with MD showing incapacitating vertigo and severe SNHL who underwent simultaneous TSCO and CI after examinations of auditory system, vestibular system, and imaging. Their symptoms were significantly alleviated during the follow-up period. CONCLUSION The combined TSCO and CI remains a viable treatment option which is effective for the control of vertigo as well as the restoring of hearing in patients with MD.
