Cross-cultural validation of the Chinese cultural value scale in tourism

This study aims to validate the Chinese Cultural Value Scale in Tourism (CCV-T) across cultures, using a sample of 405 Australian tourists. Through the application of Confirmatory Composite Analysis (CCA) within Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), the study demonstrates that the CCV-T scale exhibits excellent measurement qualities, including indicator reliability, construct reliability, convergent validity, discriminant validity, and nomological validity. The CCV-T scale comprises five dimensions: Life and Leisure Enjoyment (LLE), Filial Piety and Relationship (FPR), Self-fulfilment, Righteousness, and Humanity, consisting of 17 measurement items. The findings indicate that this scale is suitable for use with Australian tourists, representing a Western cultural context. Moreover, the CCV-T scale demonstrates its potential as a universal tool for measuring cultural values in tourism, applicable across various cultural and national contexts. This makes it a valuable instrument for future cross-cultural studies focusing on cultural values within the realm of tourism. This study makes a significant contribution to the field of cultural value studies in tourism by establishing a scale that is valid across different cultures. Industry professionals and policymakers can utilize this scale and its dimensions for purposes such as tourism product development and policy creation.

Informational justice and employee knowledge hiding behaviours: Mediation of organizational identification and moderation of justice sensitivity

Purpose

- This study examines the effects of information justice on employee knowledge hiding via the mediation of organizational identification, and further investigates how justice sensitivity moderates these effects.Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected through a questionnaire survey with 250 working individuals in China. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to test the validity and reliability of the construct measurement. Regression analyses were then used for hypothesis tests.

Findings

Informational justice is negatively associated with evasive hiding and playing dumb behaviours but positively associated with rationalized hiding behaviour through the mediation of organizational identification. In addition, justice sensitivity moderates the relationship between informational justice and organizational identification.

Practical implications

Managers should deliver informational justice in their workplace interactions with subordinates in counteracting workplace knowledge hiding, and pay special attention to employees with higher justice sensitivity who possess critical knowledge to the organization.

Originality/value

This study identified informational justice in the leader-follower exchange domain as a predictor of employee knowledge hiding, and examined specific mediation mechanism and boundary effects.

Group trip planning and information seeking behaviours by mobile social media users: A study of tourists in Australia, Bangladesh and China

Social media plays an increasingly important role in travel information seeking and decision-making. However, there is limited understanding of how a group of tourists use social media to plan trips collaboratively and the different practices between countries. In this study, we investigated the collaborative information seeking (CIS) and sharing behaviours of mobile social media users from Australia, Bangladesh and China. Specifically, we surveyed a total of 219 participants to explore the differences in CIS behaviours when people were planning a group trip. The findings suggest significant differences among three countries in terms of the motivations of using social media, CIS activities and social interactions outside the group. Key findings include Bangladeshi and Chinese travellers preferred known contacts on social media, while Australian tourists intended to use both known contacts and user-generated contents for seeking information. The findings also show that social interactions employed by individuals are considered as an important complement of and are interwoven with in-group CIS; both contribute to tourism information seeking. Finally, we propose a framework for CIS research in the tourism domain.

China hotel research: A systematic review of the English language academic literature

This paper presents the findings of a systematic review performed on 115 academic papers published over a 26-year period from 1984 to 2009 and provides a content analysis of research themes and trends in China hotel research. The findings reveal that hotel management and performance is the theme most frequently examined by researchers, followed by hotel development strategies, and hotel business environment analysis. The analysis also indicates shifts in research methods, trends of publication, journal outlets and authorship information.
