Abstract
The dried young fruit of Citrus reticulata Blanco, known as Qingpi, is commonly used in clinic both with its raw and vinegar-processed products. However, the distinctions in quality between these two products remain unclear, and the methods for identification are considerably intricate. In this study, an electronic eye technique was applied to assess the overall color of Qingpi products before and after processing. The luminosity (L*) and yellow-blue (b*) values of Qingpi decreased after vinegar processing, while red-green (a*) values increased. The discriminant function models based on color parameters were established to effectively classify the two products. The chemical compositions of different Qingpi products were characterized using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography fingerprint technology, and 10 distinct components were considered as potential chemical markers. The correlation analysis revealed a significant relationship between chromatic values and chemical components. In conclusion, the results of this study suggested that chromaticity can be effectively considered as a valuable instrument for the prediction of component content in both raw and vinegar-processed Qingpi products. This study will provide new ideas and methods for identification and quality evaluation of Qingpi processed products, as well as provide a reference for standardizing traditional Chinese medicine processing techniques.

Abstract
Immunochromatographic assay (ICA) has attracted widespread attention owing to its advantages of economy, simplicity, and rapidity. However, the synthesis of immunoprobes is still limited by complicated design ideas and multistep operations from preparing nanoparticles to conjugating monoclonal antibodies (mAb) onto nanoparticles. Inspired by the biomineralization of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), we proposed a strategy for the rapid synthesis of an integrated immunoprobe (ZIF-8@QDs-mAb), achieving a one-step integration with strong fluorescent signal output capability and specific recognition ability. In addition, different fluorescent colors of ZIF-8@QDs-mAb were generated by doping red and green quantum dots (QDs) in various ratios. With a smart detection platform, the developed ZIF-8@QDs-mAb-based multiplex ICA (ZIF-8@QDs-mAb-mICA) achieved the on-site quantitative detection of enrofloxacin, sulfamethazine, and kanamycin in milk within 15 min, with the limit of detection (LOD) of 0.052, 0.186 and 0.216 ng mL-1, which were 5.69, 2.20 and 4.40 times higher than that of gold nanoparticles-based mICA, respectively. The quantitative detection of alpha-fetoprotein and human chorionic gonadotropin was also achieved with LOD of 0.516 ng mL-1 and 0.225 mIU mL-1, respectively, which verified the universality of the strategy. This work provides a novel idea for the design of an efficient integrated immunoprobe and has broad application prospects in ICA.

Abstract
The present study has successfully established a scientific and precise approach for distinguishing the geographical origins of young citrus fruits (Qingpi) from four primary production regions in China, using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and flash gas chromatography electronic nose (flash GC e-nose) to analyze the volatile composition and odor characteristics. Through the application of chemometric analysis, a clear differentiation among Qingpi samples was established using GC-MS. Additionally, the application of flash GC e-nose facilitated the extraction of flavor information, which enabled the discrimination of geographical origins. Several flavor components were identified as significant factors for origin certification. Furthermore, two pattern recognition algorithms were employed to achieve high accuracy in regional identification. The results of this investigation demonstrate that the amalgamation of multivariate chemometrics and algorithms can proficiently discern the sources of those young citrus fruits. The findings of this research can provide a reference for the assessment of quality control in food and other agricultural commodities in the times ahead.

Abstract
The quality of traditional Chinese medicine is very important for human health, but the traditional quality control method is very tedious, which leads to the substandard quality of many traditional Chinese medicine. In order to solve the problem of time-consuming and laborious traditional quality control methods, this study takes traditional Chinese medicine Cyperus rotundus as an example, a comprehensive strategy of near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy combined with One-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) and chaotic map dung beetle optimization (CDBO) algorithm combined with BP neural network (BPNN) is proposed. This strategy has the advantages of fast and non-destructive. It can not only qualitatively distinguish Cyperus rotundus and various processed products, but also quantitatively predict two bioactive components. In classification, 1D-CNN successfully distinguished four kinds of processed products of Cyperus rotundus with 100 % accuracy. Quantitatively, a CDBO algorithm is proposed to optimize the performance of the BPNN quantitative model of two terpenoids, and compared with the BP, whale optimization algorithm (WOA)-BP, sparrow optimization algorithm (SSA)-BP, grey wolf optimization (GWO)-BP and particle swarm optimization (PSO)-BP models. The results show that the CDBO-BPNN model has the smallest error and has a significant advantage in predicting the content of active components in different processed products. To sum up, it is feasible to use near infrared spectroscopy to quickly evaluate the effect of processing methods on the quality of Cyperus rotundus, which provides a meaningful reference for the quality control of traditional Chinese medicine with many other processing methods.

Abstract
The effects of HNK, I5, and I6 on the expression of protein in hippocampus of depressed mice were studied by isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ) to explore the mechanism of their antidepressant action. HNK, I5, and I6 were administered intragastric administration once a day in the morning for 7 days. The drug was subsequently discontinued for 7 days (without any treatment). On the 15th day, mice in each group were given the drug (1.0, 10.0, 30.0 mg/kg) intragastric stimulation and mouse hippocampal tissues were taken to perform iTRAQ to identify differentially expressed proteins, and bioinformatics was used to analyze the functional enrichment of the differentially expressed proteins. Compared with Ctr group, the number of differentially expressed proteins in HNK, I5, and I6 treatment groups was 158, 88, and 105, respectively. The three groups shared 29 differentially expressed proteins. In addition, compared with HNK group, the number of differentially expressed proteins in I5 and I6 groups was 201 and 203, respectively. A total of 47 and 56 differentially expressed proteins were co-expressed in I5 and I6 groups. Bioinformatics analysis showed that these differentially expressed proteins mainly had the functions of binding, biocatalysis, and transport, and mainly participated in cellular process, biological regulation process, biological metabolism process, and stress reaction process. GO and KEGG pathway analysis found that these differentially expressed proteins were involved long-term potentiation, G13 pathway, platelet activation pathway, and MAPK signaling pathway. HNK, I5, and I6 antidepressants are closely related to sudden stress sensitivity, stress resistance, neurotransmitter, and metabolic pathways. This study provides a scientific basis to further elucidate the mechanism and clinical application of HNK, I5, and I6 antidepressants.

Abstract
Qingpi, a well-known traditional Chinese medicine for qi-regulating and commonly processed into three types of pieces, has been widely used in the clinical application of liver disease for thousands of years. In this study, an ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time of flight-mass spectrometry approach along with multivariate statistical analysis was developed to assess and characterize the differentiations of three processed products and confirm the potential quality markers of Qingpi. In addition, a systematic analysis combined with network pharmacology and molecular docking was performed to clarify the potential mechanism of Qingpi for the treatment of liver disease. As a result, 18 components were identified and an integrated network of Qingpi-Components-Target-Pathway-Liver Disease was constructed. Eight compounds were finally screened out as the potential quality markers acting on ten main targets and pathways of liver disease. Molecular docking analysis results indicated that the quality markers had a good binding activity with the targets. Overall, this work preliminarily identified the potential quality markers of three processed products of Qingpi, and predicted its targets in the prevention and treatment of liver disease, which can provide supporting information for further study of the pharmacodynamic substances and mechanisms of Qingpi.

Abstract
Developing of the multifunctional polymeric carrier for controlled drug release is still one of most challenging task. In this work, a pH-responsive dual drug delivery system was designed and prepared based on the zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8). The poly(lactic acid)/chitosan (PLA/CS) core-shell nanofiber membranes by emulsion electrospinning, which the hydrophilic drug (Astragalus Polysacharin, APS) was encapsulated in the CS core and the hydrophobic drug (Camptothecin, CPT) was loaded into the PLA shell, respectively. Subsequently, ZIF-8 nanoparticles served as the protective layer were immobilized on the surface of PLA/CS to form multi-structural PLA/CS@ZIF-8 nanofiber membranes. In vitro drug release of nanofiber membranes were studied in the acidic and neutral medium, respectively. The results were that the hydrophilicity and surface roughness of nanofiber membranes rose with increasing of 2-MIM concentrations. The nanofiber membranes also had excellent pH-responsive and controlled release property. Furthermore, the drug release of PLA/CS@ZIF-8 for either APS or CPT were all carried out in a coexisting manner of diffusion and skeleton corrosion. In addition, in vitro cytotoxicity assay indicated nanofiber membranes with good cytocompatibility. Therefore, the multi-structured PLA/CS@ZIF-8 nanofiber membranes has been used as a potential pH-responsive dual drug release system.

Abstract
Delirium is an acute reversible neuropsychiatric syndrome caused by multiple factors. It is associated with many adverse clinical outcomes including cognitive impairment, functional decline, prolonged hospitalization, and increased nursing service. The prevalence of delirium was high in department of cardiology, geriatric, and intensive care unit of hospital. With the increase in the aged population, further increases in delirium seem likely. However, it remains poorly recognized in the clinical practice. This article comprehensively discusses the latest research perspectives on the epidemiological data, risk factors, preventive interventions, overlapping symptoms, and clinical measures of delirium, including specific measures to manage delirium in clinical real-world situations. This article helps readers improve their knowledge and understanding of delirium and helps clinicians quickly identify and implement timely therapeutic measures to address various delirium subtypes that occur in the clinical settings to ensure patients are treated as aggressively as possible.

Abstract
Background: As a non-pharmacologic treatment, bright light therapy (BLT) is often used to improve affective disorders and memory function. In this study, we aimed to determine the effect of BLT on depression and electrophysiological features of the brain in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and their caregivers using a light-emitting diode device of 14000 lux. Methods: A 4-week case-control trial was conducted. Neuropsychiatric and electroencephalogram (EEG) examination were evaluated at baseline and after 4 weeks. EEG power in delta (1-4 Hz), theta (4-8 Hz), alpha (8-12 Hz), and beta (12-30 Hz) bands was calculated for our main analysis. Demographic and clinical variables were analyzed using Student's t test and the chi-square test. Pearson's correlation was used to determine the correlation between electrophysiological features, blood biochemical indicators, and cognitive assessment scale scores. Results: In this study, 22 in-patients with AD and 23 caregivers were recruited. After BLT, the Hamilton depression scale score decreased in the fourth week. Compared with the age-matched controls of their caregivers, a higher spectral power at the lower delta and theta frequencies was observed in the AD group. After BLT, the EEG power of the delta and theta frequencies in the AD group decreased. No change was observed in blood amyloid concentrations before and after BLT. Conclusion: In conclusion, a 4-week course of BLT significantly suppressed depression in patients with AD and their caregivers. Moreover, changes in EEG power were also significant in both groups.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study utilized serum proteomics with tandem mass tags (TMT) to investigate potential biomarkers associated with femoral central venous catheter (CVC) thrombosis in endstage kidney disease (ESKD) patients. TMT proteomics analysis on serum samples was conducted to identify proteins with distinct expression levels that may be linked to thrombosis. The findings have important implications for enhancing anticoagulant procedures, catheter closure techniques, and determining optimal intervention timing for post-catheterization dialysis. METHODS Thirty ESKD patients with CVC receiving hemodialysis between May 2021 and October 2022 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College were included in the study, and grouped according to vascular color Doppler ultrasound results, including 23 patients in the thrombo-positive group and 7 patients in the thrombo-negative group. Selection criteria were: 1) Patients with ESKD candidate for hemodialysis initiation; 2) no dialysis access has been placed previously, and CVC needs to be inserted as a temporary access; 3) patients volunteered to participate in this clinical study. Clinical data, blood tests, coagulation function, and biochemical parameters were collected and analyzed on the 14th day after catheterization. Color ultrasonography was conducted on the same day to categorize patients into two groups: those with thrombus-positive results and those with thrombus-negative results. RESULTS TMT proteomics analysis identified twenty-eight differently expressed proteins, including 16 upregulated and 12 downregulated proteins. Enrichment analysis demonstrated nine proteins that were significantly enriched in four pathways within the thrombus-positive group after CVC insertion. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test confirmed the TMT proteomics findings, specifically highlighting significant differences in human plasma kallikrein B1 (KLKB1) and angiopoietin-like protein 3 (ANGPTL3) levels on the 14th day after CVC insertion. Additionally, KLKB1, fibrinogen (FIB), D-dimer, and fibrinogen degradation products (FDP) levels were significantly elevated, while ANGPTL3 levels were decreased on the 14th day after CVC insertion in the thrombus-positive ESKD patient group. CONCLUSION Monitoring coagulation status post-CVC catheterization and evaluating potential biomarkers like KLKB1 and ANGPTL3 can contribute to the development of personalized treatment plans, improving the quality of hemodialysis and the overall quality of life for ESKD patients. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the RNA binding protein of Toxoplasma gondii (TgDDX39) using bioinformatics technology, and to evaluate the immunogenicity of TgDDX39, so as to provide insights into development of toxoplasmosis vaccines. METHODS The amino acid sequences of TgDDX39 were retrieved from the ToxoDB database, and the physicochemical properties, transmembrane structure domain, signal peptide sites, post-translational modification sites, coils, secondary and tertiary structures, hydrophobicity, and antigenic epitopes of the TgDDX39 protein were predicted using online bioinformatics tools, incluiding ProtParam, TMHMM 2.0, SignalP 5.0, NetPhos 3.1, COILS, SOPMA, Phyre2, ProtScale, ABCpred, SYFPEITHI and DNA-STAR. RESULTS TgDDX39 protein was predicted to be an unstable hydrophilic protein with the molecular formula of C2173H3458N598O661S18, which contained 434 amino acids and had an estimated molecular weight of 49.1 kDa and a theoretical isoelectric point of 5.55. The protein was predicted to have an extremely low possibility of signal peptides, without transmembrane regions, and contain 27 phosphorylation sites. The β turn and random coils accounted for 39.63% of the secondary structure of the TgDDX39 protein, and a coiled helix tended to produce in one site. In addition, the TgDDX39 protein contained multiple B and T cell antigenic epitopes. CONCLUSIONS Bioinformatics analyses predict that TgDDX39 protein has high immunogenicity and contains multiple antigenic epitopes. TgDDX39 protein is a potential candidate antigen for vaccine development.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Approximately half of patients with advanced HER2-positive breast cancer (BC) will develop brain metastases (BM) over time. Local therapy including stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) and whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) is the main initial treatment in malignant tumor patients with BM. However, more than 50% patients after radiotherapy in one year suffered intracranial recurrence. Pyrotinib, a small molecule, irreversible, pan-ErbB receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), has a high potency for controlling BM and reducing the occurrence of brain metastases in advanced HER2-positive BC patients. We hypothesized that SRT or WBRT combined with pyrotinib and capecitabine could decrease intracranial progression in HER2 positive BC with newly diagnosed BM. MATERIALS/METHODS In this prospective single-arm phase Ib/II trial (NCT04582968), eligible patients were assigned to either fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (FSRT) or whole-brain radiation therapy (WBRT), combined with pyrotinib and capecitabine. The primary endpoint was one-year CNS progression-free survival (PFS) rate. Secondary endpoints included intracranial objective response rate (IC-ORR) according to RANO-BM criteria, progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS) and evaluation of safety and neurocognitive function. RESULTS From January 2020 to August 2022, 40 patients were enrolled. Twenty-nine patients were treated with FSRT in 8 Gy per fraction with 3 to 5 fractions and 11 were treated with WBRT in 3 Gy per fraction with 10 fractions, and then received chemotherapy in a time frame starting from 0 to 7 days after radiotherapy. At a median follow-up of 17.3 months, 1-year CNS-PFS rate was 74.9% (95% CI 61.9-90.7%) and median CNS-PFS was 18 months (95% CI, 15.5 to NA months). One-year PFS rate was 66.9% (53.1-84.2%) and median PFS time was 17.6 months (95% CI 12.8-34.1 months). The best intracranial response rate (IC-ORR: complete response and partial response) was 92.5% (37/40). The most common grade 3 or worse toxicity was diarrhea (7.5%) and asymptomatic radiation necrosis was detected in 4 of 67(6.0%) lesions treated with FSRT. No differences of neurocognitive function evaluated by MMSE (Mini-Mental State Exam) were observed between different groups at any time point. CONCLUSION Radiotherapy combined with pyrotinib and capecitabine resulted in a promising efficacy that crossed the pre-specified boundary in patients with HER2-positive advanced breast cancer with brain metastases. This is the first prospective study showing the efficacy and safety of CNS radiotherapy concurrent with pyrotinib and capecitabine in patients with BM from HER2-positive breast cancer. Further investigation in a randomized controlled study is warranted.

Abstract
In this study, CM-5 spectrophotometer and Heracles NEO ultra-fast gas-phase electronic nose were used to analyze the changes in color and odor of vinegar-processed Cyperi Rhizoma(VPCR) pieces. Various analysis methods such as DFA and partial least squares discriminant analysis(PLS-DA) were combined to identify different processing degrees and quantify the end point of processing. The results showed that with the increase in vinegar processing, the brightness parameter L~* of VPCR pieces decreased gradua-lly, while the red-green value a~* and yellow-blue value b~* initially increased and reached their maximum at 8 min of processing, followed by a gradual decrease. A discriminant model based on the color parameters L~*, a~*, and b~* was established(with a discrimination accuracy of 98.5%), which effectively differentiated different degrees of VPCR pieces. Using the electronic nose, 26 odor components were identified from VPCR samples at different degrees of vinegar processing. DFA and PLS-DA models were established for different degrees of VPCR pieces. The results showed that the 8-min processed samples were significantly distinct from other samples. Based on variable importance in projection(VIP) value greater than 1, 10 odor components, including 3-methylfuran, 2-methylbuty-raldehyde, 2-methylpropionic acid, furfural, and α-pinene, were selected as odor markers for differentiating the degrees of vinegar processing in VPCR. By combining the changes in color and the characteristic odor components, the optimal processing time for VPCR was determined to be 8 min. This study provided a scientific basis for the standardization of vinegar processing techniques for VPCR and the improvement of its quality standards and also offered new methods and ideas for the rapid identification and quality control of the end point of processing for other traditional Chinese medicine.

Abstract
Objective To investigate correlation between cognitive function, age, and sleep disturbances. Methods This retrospective clinical study enrolled 78 patients with sleep disorders who were divided into three groups: a group of 24 patients with sleep disorders accompanied by cognitive decline (SD-CD); 54 patients with sleep disorders and no cognitive decline (SD-nCD) was divided into two groups, one of 30 patients aged between 60 and 70 years and another of 24 patients aged >70 years. Polysomnography was used to record patients' sleep indicators throughout night; these included total sleep duration, sleep efficiency (SE), sleep latency, sleep structure and percentage of N1, N2, and N3 stages, rapid eye movement (REM) stage, as well as apnea hypopnea index (AHI), and oxygen saturation (OS). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) for continuous variables and chi-square test for categorical variables were used to analyze variables between different groups. Pearson's correlation was used to analyze correlation between sleep parameters and mini-mental state examination (MMSE). Blood samples were used to determine their Aβ, Aβ40, Aβ42, total tau, phosphorylated tau protein (ptau), ptau181, ptau217, the inflammatory factor IL-1β, vitamin B12 (VB12), and melatonin levels. Results In the SD-CD group, there was a significant decrease in SE and an increase in N1 stage sleep in older patients and a significant increase in AHI, REM stage AHI, and non-REM stage AHI. In patients with SD-nCD, the minimum OS, minimum OS in the REM period, and minimum OS in the non-REM period were significantly reduced. OS was significantly correlated with cognitive level, as evaluated by the MMSE. The addition of sleep parameters can significantly improve the accuracy of dementia diagnosis. Dementia biomarkers of Aβ and tau proteins in blood showed cognition-related differences, while ptau181 was associated with both cognition and age-related differences. Regression models revealed that age was related to higher levels of cognitive decline before (β = -0.43, P < 0.001) and after (β = -0.38, P < 0.001) adjustment of gender, BMI, and education level. There was a significant mediation effect of relationship between aging and cognitive function by sleep efficiency and N1 stage sleep. Conclusion Sleep disorders and low OS are associated with a higher incidence of cognitive decline and dementia.

Abstract
Identification of age-related neuropsychiatric disorders, i.e., late-life depression (LDD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is of imperative clinical value considering the large probability of misdiagnosis and current lack of sensitive, non-invasive and low-cost diagnostic approaches. Here, the serum surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) technique is proposed to identify healthy controls, LDD and MCI patients. Based on SERS peaks analysis, abnormal levels of ascorbic acid, saccharide, cell-free DNA and amino acids in serum are found to be potential biomarkers for identifying LDD and MCI. These biomarkers might be related to oxidative stress, nutritional status, lipid peroxidation and metabolic abnormalities. Moreover, partial least square analysis-linear discriminant analysis (PLS-LDA) is applied to those collected SERS spectra. Finally, the overall identification accuracy is 83.2%, and accuracies are 91.6% and 85.7% for differentiating healthy versus neuropsychiatric disorders and LDD versus MCI, respectively. Thus, the serum SERS combined with multivariate statistical analysis has proved its successful potential for rapid, sensitive and non-invasive identification of healthy, LDD and MCI, which may open new avenues for early diagnosis and timely intervention for age-related neuropsychiatric disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is commonly used to study human brain function by measuring the hemodynamic signals originating from cortical activation and provides a new noninvasive detection method for identifying dementia.
AIM To investigate the fNIRS imaging technique and its clinical application in differential diagnosis of subtype dementias including frontotemporal lobe dementia, Lewy body dementia, Parkinson’s disease dementia (PDD) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD).
METHODS Four patients with different types of dementia were examined with fNIRS during two tasks and a resting state. We adopted the verbal fluency task, working memory task and resting state task. Each patient was compared on the same task. We conducted and analyzed the fNIRS data using a general linear model and Pearson’s correlation analysis.
RESULTS Compared with other types of dementias, fNIRS showed the left frontotemporal and prefrontal lobes to be poorly activated during the verbal fluency task in frontotemporal dementia. In Lewy body dementia, severe asymmetry of prefrontal lobes appeared during both verbal fluency and working memory tasks, and the patient had low functional connectivity during a resting state. In PDD, the patient’s prefrontal cortex showed lower excitability than the temporal lobe during the verbal fluency task, while the prefrontal cortex showed higher excitability during the working memory task. The patient with AD showed poor prefrontal and temporal activation during the working memory task, and more activation of frontopolar instead of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.
CONCLUSION Different hemodynamic characteristics of four types of dementia (as seen by fNIRS imaging) provides evidence that fNIRS can serve as a potential tool for the diagnosis between dementia subtypes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is associated with increased risk of postoperative complications, which is possibly related to increased sensitivity to opioid. However, the effect of increased sensitivity to opioids in patients with OSAS remains controversial. This study aims to investigate whether male patients with moderate to severe OSAS have increased sensitivity to opioid remifentanil and its related predictive factors, so as to provide a reference for the rational use of opioids in patients with OSAS. METHODS This study was a prospective study. From December 28, 2021 to October 15, 2022, a total of 61 male patients aged 22 to 60 years old, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) status I and II, who underwent nasopharyngeal surgery under general anesthesia, were selected. According to STOP-BANG questionnaire score and apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), the patients were divided into an OSAS group (n=39) and a control group (n=22). The pupil diameter (PD) of the patients was measured by hand-held monocular pupillometer, and the perception threshold (PT) and pain tolerance threshold (PTT) of the patients were measured by somatosensory evoked potential stimulator. The initial PD, PT, and PTT were measured in a quiet environment and recorded as PD0, PT0, and PTT0. Changes in PD, PT, PTT, respiration, and consciousness were recorded after remifentanil infusion. Age, body mass index (BMI), smoking, AHI, minimal oxygen saturation, and percentage of sleep time spent with oxygen saturation <90% (T90) were included as independent variables in multiple linear regression equations to analyze the possible predictors of increased opioid sensitivity in patients with moderate to severe OSAS. RESULTS There were no significant differences in PD0, PT0 and PTT0 between the OSAS group and the control group (all P>0.05). After remifentanil infusion, there was no significant difference in the rate of PT change between the 2 groups (P>0.05). The change rate of PTT and PD in the OSAS group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05 and P<0.001, respectively), PD in the OSAS group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.001). During remifentanil infusion, there were no significant differences in the incidence of respiratory depression and the distribution of observer's assessment of alertness/sedation (OAA/S) scores between the 2 groups (both P>0.05), and there were no changes in mental status and airway support in the patients of the 2 groups. Multiple linear regression showed that T90 was positively correlated with miosis rate (β=0.597, 95% CI 0.269 to 0.924, P<0.05) and the rate of PTT change (β=0.458, 95% CI 0.116 to 0.800, P<0.05). However, minimal oxygen saturation, age, BMI, smoking, and AHI were not correlated with PD change rate and PTT change rate in the OSAS patients (all P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS Male patients with moderate to severe OSAS have increased sensitivity to remifentanil, the duration of nocturnal desaturation may be its predictive factor. Male patients with moderate to severe OSAS with a longer duration of nocturnal hypoxia are more sensitive to remifentanil, and the use of opioids in these patients should be more cautious in clinical.

Abstract
The chemical components of Huanglian Decoction were identified by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time-of-flight-tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS) technology. The gradient elution was conducted in Agilent ZORBAX Extend-C_(18) column(2.1 mm×100 mm, 1.8 μm) with the mobile phase of 0.1% formic acid aqueous solution(A)-acetonitrile(B) at a flow rate of 0.3 mL·min~(-1) and the column temperature of 35 ℃. The MS adopted the positive and negative ion mode of electrospray ionization(ESI), and the MS data were collected under the scanning range of m/z 100-1 500. Through high-resolution MS data analysis, combined with literature comparison and confirmation of reference substances, this paper identified 134 chemical components in Huanglian Decoction, including 12 alkaloids, 23 flavonoids, 22 terpenes and saponins, 12 phenols, 7 coumarins, 12 amino acids, 23 organic acids, and 23 other compounds, and the medicinal sources of the compounds were ascribed. Based on the previous studies, 7 components were selected as the index components. Combined with the network pharmacology research and analysis me-thods, the protein and protein interaction(PPI) network information of the intersection targets was obtained through the STRING 11.0 database, and 20 core targets of efficacy were screened out. In this study, UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS technology was successfully used to comprehensively analyze and identify the chemical components of Huanglian Decoction, and the core targets of its efficacy were discussed in combination with network pharmacology, which laid the foundation for clarifying the material basis and quality control of Huanglian Decoction.

Abstract
Cyperus rotundus is the dry rhizome of the Cyperaceae plant Cyperus. Although there are two types of processed products in clinics, their quality differences are not clear, and the identification methods are more complex. In this study, the chemical composition of different processed products of Cyperus rotundus was characterized using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time of flight-mass spectrometry and molecular network analysis, to identify the potential chemical markers and to establish a quick and simple color-based discrimination method. Among the 65 compounds analyzed, 12 showed significant differences. Observing the color, the surface brightness (L*) of Cyperus rotundus decreased after vinegar processing, while red (a*) and yellow (b*) values increased. These color values correlated significantly with chemical compositions. Finally, a color discriminant function was established and verified for raw Cyperus rotundus and vinegar-processing Cyperus rotundus. Based on this study, Cyperus rotundus' quality can be effectively controlled and provides a method for the comprehensive characterization of chemical components and chemical markers of other traditional Chinese medicine and processed products, as well as new ideas and methods in identification and quality evaluation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Major depressive disorder (MDD) is the most frequent reason of disabled people in the world, as reported by the World Health Organization. However, the diagnosis of MDD is mainly based on clinical symptoms.
CASE SUMMARY The clinical, genetic, and molecular characteristics of two Chinese families with MDD are described in this study. There were variable ages of onset and severity in depression among the families. Both Chinese families had a very low pre-valence of MDD. The mitochondrial genomes of these pedigrees were sequenced and indicated a homoplasmic T3394C (Y30H) mutation, with the polymorphism located at a highly conserved tyrosine at position 30 of ND1. The analysis also revealed unique sets of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) polymorphisms orig-inating from haplogroups M9a3 and M9a.
CONCLUSION This finding of the T3394C mutation in two unrelated depressed patients provides strong evidence that this mutation may have a part in the etiology of MDD. However, In these two Chinese families having the T3394C mutation, no functional mtDNA mutation was observed. Therefore, T3394C mutations are related with MDD, and the phenotypic manifestation of these mutations may be affected by changes in nuclear genes or environmental factors.

Abstract
Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) is a complex clinicopathologic disease which can only be definitively confirmed at autopsy. It belongs to a family of conditions exhibiting Parkinson's syndrome, including Lewy body dementia (LBD) or dementia with Lewy body (DLB), and Parkinson's disease dementia (PDD). In regards to clinical manifestations, these two dementias have many overlapping characteristics. The declines of cognition in older patients of dementia are generally accompanied by depression, anxiety, hallucinations, delusions, eating and sleep disorders. This can lead to the difficulty in distinguishing the types of dementia and accurately diagnosing the disease. Herein, we present a complex case of PSP with depression, anxiety, and fluctuating dementia in which DLB was initially suspected. Before antidepressant therapy, the patient showed extrapyramidal symptoms as well as major depression, which lead to greatly impaired movement. Moreover, this patient was an older person with depression disorders, implicating further complexities of late life depression. After two weeks of therapy with antidepressants, the patient had reduced depressive symptoms, and even the somatic symptoms were improved. This case demonstrated that antidepressant therapy can be effective in improving emotion and cognition among patients with late life depression.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Postoperative intracranial hemorrhage (PIH) is a fairly rare but catastrophic perioperative complication following lumbar spine surgery. This is a case report of a 54-year-old male patient who experienced PIH 2 h after an endoscopic L5-S1 laminectomy and discectomy. CASE PRESENTATION A 54-year-old male patient presented with right L5-S1 radiculopathy that corresponded with the picture revealed in medical imaging and the signs seen upon physical examination. Subsequently, he underwent endoscopic L5-S1 laminectomy and discectomy. The patient presented with idiopathic unconsciousness and limb twitching 2 h after surgery. An emergency cranial CT scan was obtained which demonstrated intracranial hemorrhage. Following an emergency consultation with the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, the patient underwent an emergency interventional thrombectomy as per their orders. The surgery was performed successfully. However, the patient's situation did not improve and he died on the second postoperative day. CONCLUSION PIH after spinal endoscopic surgery is a rare but horrible complication. Several factors could lead to PIH. However, in this patient, the cause of PIH might be attributed to the long operation time combined with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage. Great attention should be attached to the issue of PIH development in spinal endoscopic procedures due to constant irrigation. This study aims to highlight the issue of PIH following endoscopic spinal surgery by presenting a case report of a patient who died despite successful surgery.

Abstract
Late-life depression (LLD) is one of the most common mental disorders among the older adults. Population aging, social stress, and the COVID-19 pandemic have significantly affected the emotional health of older adults, resulting in a worldwide prevalence of LLD. The clinical phenotypes between LLD and adult depression differ in terms of symptoms, comorbid physical diseases, and coexisting cognitive impairments. Many pathological factors such as the imbalance of neurotransmitters, a decrease in neurotrophic factors, an increase in β-amyloid production, dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, and changes in the gut microbiota, are allegedly associated with the onset of LLD. However, the exact pathogenic mechanism underlying LLD remains unclear. Traditional selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor therapy results in poor responsiveness and side effects during LLD treatment. Neuromodulation therapies and complementary and integrative therapies have been proven safe and effective for the treatment of LLD. Importantly, during the COVID-19 pandemic, modern digital health intervention technologies, including socially assistive robots and app-based interventions, have proven to be advantageous in providing personal services to patients with LLD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bipolar disorder (BD) is predominantly treated with psychotropic drugs, but BD is a complex medical condition and the contribution of psychotropic drugs is not clear. The objectives of this study are: (1) to present psychotropic drugs used in patients with BD; (2) to access changes of psychotropic drug treatments in acute and maintenance episodes. METHODS The study retrospectively evaluated the medical records of inpatients in the Ningbo Kangning Hospital from January 2019 to December 2019. The medical history of each subject was collected completely, including sociodemographic (gender, age, marital status, and so on) and clinical characteristics at baseline and within 12 months of admission. RESULTS The study ultimately included 204 patients with BD. After 12 months, 73.0% of the patients still took drugs. Mood stabilizers (72-90%) and antipsychotics (77-95%) were still the most important drugs in patients with BD. Antidepressants (34-40%) and benzodiazepines (20-34%) were the other frequently used drug classes. For mood stabilizers, 40-56% of patients were prescribed lithium. For antipsychotic, 54-65% of patients were prescribed quetiapine. Sertraline (6-9%) and fluoxetine (5-9%) were the antidepressant that most frequently prescribed. Lorazepam (10-18%) was the most commonly used benzodiazepine. In psychotropic polypharmacy, the most frequently taken was mood stabilizer plus antipsychotic co-treatment, about 36-44% of all patients. A total of 35-48% of patients treated by two psychotropic drugs and 24-36% received three. CONCLUSION The first 6 months after treatment is very important to medication adherence. Mood stabilizers and antipsychotic remained the primary treatment for BD. Antipsychotic is on the rise in the treatment of BD.

Abstract
Objective: The study aimed to analyze the clinical and endoscopic characteristics of adult celiac disease (CD) to provide a scientific basis for more effective CD diagnosis and treatment. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the clinical and endoscopic data of 96 adult CD patients treated in the Department of Gastroenterology of the People's Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from March 2016 to December 2021 were retrospectively collected and analyzed. Results: A total of 96 CD patients were diagnosed, including 33 men and 63 women. The average age was 47±14 years (range, 18-81 years). The disease occurred mainly in the age group of 31-60 years. The median course of the disease was 2.0 (0.2-40.0) years. There were 41 (42.7%) classical and 55 (57.3%) non-classical CD patients. All patients with classical CD showed chronic diarrhea, often accompanied by abdominal pain (46.3%, 19/41), abdominal distension (17.1%, 7/41), anemia (65.9%, 27/41), and chronic fatigue (48.8%, 20/41). The main manifestations of non-classical CD were chronic abdominal pain (58.2%, 32/55), abdominal distension (32.7%, 18/55), anemia (40.0%, 22/55), and osteopenia/osteoporosis (38.2%, 21/55). Compared with non-classical CD, anemia developed more frequently in classical CD, and the difference was statistically significant (P = 0.012). The incidence of complications in CD patients was 36.5% (35/96), and the main complications were thyroid disease (19.8%, 19/96), connective tissue disease (6.2%, 6/96), and kidney disease (6.2%, 6/96). There was no significant difference between classical and non-classical CD (P>0.05). The frequency of endoscopic manifestations in CD patients was 84.4% (81/96). Duodenal bulb endoscopy showed nodular changes (72.9%, 70/96), grooved changes (10.4%, 10/96), and focal villous atrophy (9.4%, 9/96). The main manifestations of descending endoscopy were the decrease, flattening, or disappearance of duodenal folds (43.8%, 42/96), scallop-like changes (38.5%, 37/96), and nodular changes (34.4%, 33/96). Conclusions: Adult CD patients are mostly female. CD occurred mainly in the age group of 31-60 years. The clinical manifestations were mainly those of non-classical CD. Some patients often had other autoimmune diseases. Patients with characteristic endoscopic manifestations should be warned about the possibility of developing CD. Clinicians should strengthen the understanding of CD and reduce the related rates of missed diagnosis.

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to develop a method to automatic classify capsule gastroscope image into three categories to prevent high-risk factors for carcinogenesis, such as atrophic gastritis (AG). The purpose of this research work is to develop a deep learning framework based on transfer learning to classify capsule gastroscope image into three categories: normal gastroscopic image, chronic erosive gastritis images, and ulcer gastric image. Method: In this research work, we proposed deep learning framework based on transfer learning to classify capsule gastroscope image into three categories: normal gastroscopic image, chronic erosive gastritis images, and ulcer gastric image. We used VGG- 16, ResNet-50, and Inception V3 pre-trained models, fine-tuned them and adjust hyperparameters according to our classification problem. Results: A dataset containing 380 images was collected for each capsule gastroscope image category, and divided into training set and test set in a ratio of 70%, and 30% respectively, and then based on the dataset, three methods, including as VGG- 16, ResNet-50, and Inception v3 are used. We achieved highest accuracy of 94.80% by using VGG- 16 to diagnose and classify capsule gastroscopic images into three categories: normal gastroscopic image, chronic erosive gastritis images, and ulcer gastric image. Our proposed approach classified capsule gastroscope image with respectable specificity and accuracy. Conclusion: The primary technique and industry standard for diagnosing and treating numerous stomach problems is gastroscopy. Capsule gastroscope is a new screening tool for gastric diseases. However, a number of elements, including image quality of capsule endoscopy, the doctors' experience and fatigue, limit its effectiveness. Early identification is necessary for high-risk factors for carcinogenesis, such as atrophic gastritis (AG). Our suggested framework will help prevent incorrect diagnoses brought on by low image quality, individual experience, and inadequate gastroscopy inspection coverage, among other factors. As a result, the suggested approach will raise the standard of gastroscopy. Deep learning has great potential in gastritis image classification for assisting with achieving accurate diagnoses after endoscopic procedures.

Abstract
This study analyzed the main chemical components of Zhuru Decoction via ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS), and then predicted the mechanism of Zhuru Decoction in clearing heat, resolving phlegm, detoxifying, and treating vomiting and alcohol-related vomiting caused by heat in stomach based on network pharmacology. The gradient elution was conducted in Agilent ZORBAX extend-C_(18) column(2.1 mm×100 mm, 1.8 μm) with the mobile phase of 0.1% formic acid aqueous solution(A)-acetonitrile(B) at a flow rate of 0.3 mL·min~(-1) and the column temperature of 35 ℃. The MS adopted the positive and negative ion mode of electrospray ionization(ESI), and the data were collected in the scanning range of m/z 100-1 500. A total of 98 compounds in Zhuru Decoction were identified via BATMAN, SYMMAP, TCMSP, and relevant literature, including 36 flavonoids, 7 triterpenoids, 8 gingerols, 20 organic acids, 5 amino acids, and 22 other compounds. On the basis of the available studies, 9 components were selected as index components, and the protein-protein interaction(PPI) network of the common targets was established with STRING 11.0. Finally, 10 core targets associated with the pharmacodynamic effect were screened out. This study established the UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS method for identifying the chemical components in the classic prescription Zhuru Decoction, and employed network pharmacology to explore the core targets of its efficacy, which provided a refe-rence for the quality control and the research of the pharmacodynamic substances of Zhuru Decoction.

Abstract
The epicontinental seas to the east of China have become highly anthropogenically impacted due to rapid economic development in recent decades, resulting in various environmental problems, including heavy metal pollution. The Bohai Strait, as a key junction connecting the material-energy exchange between the Bohai and Yellow Seas, is extremely critical in regional pollution prevention and control. To ascertain the spatial distribution and contamination levels of heavy metals in the surface sediments of the northern Bohai Strait, a systematic investigation was conducted. Geochemical analysis revealed that the concentrations (in ppm) of heavy metal elements in surface sediments vary in the range of 4.19-77.6 for As, 0.04-0.21 for Cd, 5.1-65.7 for Pb, 0.30-39.40 for Cu, 7.77-46.50 for Ni, 1.50-86.60 for Cr, 11.70-91.80 for Zn, and 0.005-0.038 for Hg. Ecological statistics indicate that the northern Bohai Strait suffers from prominent heavy metal pollution primarily induced by As, Cd, and Pb, accompanied by relatively weak pollution of Cu and Ni. Sediments collected from the submarine depressions and the southeast region exhibit higher heavy metal concentrations, and as a consequence, more serious ecological risk. Correlation analysis indicated that the accumulations of Hg, Cr, and Zn were associated with the deposition of organic matter. Preliminary provenance discrimination suggested that the pollutants were mainly derived from the eastern parts of the North Yellow Sea, rather than the Bohai region.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is a chronic disease characterized by repeated episodes of apnea or hypopnea, accompanied by intermittent awakening and sleep disturbances. The incidence of OSAHS is increasing and has become a serious disease. In recent years, more and more evidence shows that OSAHS is closely related to postoperative neurocognitive disorders, and the preparation of models of postoperative cognitive impairment in intermittent hypoxia animals is an important way to study its pathogenesis and intervention targets. This study aims to explore the establishment and evaluation of the animal model of postoperative cognitive impairment in intermittent hypoxia rats. METHODS A total of 108 male SD rats were randomly divided into 8 groups: a control group (C group, n=27), a surgery group (S group, n=27), an intermittent hypoxia 7 d group (H1 group, n=9), an intermittent hypoxia 14 d group (H2 group, n=9), an intermittent hypoxia 21 d group (H3 group, n=9), an intermittent hypoxia 7 d operation group (O1 group, n=9), an intermittent hypoxia 14 d operation group (O2 group, n=9), and an intermittent hypoxia 21 d operation group (O3 group, n=9). The rats in the H1, H2 and H3 group treated with intermittent hypoxia for 7, 14, and 21 d, respectively. The rats in the O1, O2 and O3 groups received left lateral hepatic lobectomy after 7, 14, and 21 d intermittent hypoxia, respectively. The rats in each group were subjected to open field test, new object recognition test, and Barnes Maze test. The expression of IL-1β mRNA in hippocampus of rats was detected at the 1st day after the surgery. RESULTS Compared with the C, S, and H2 groups, the discrimination index in novel object recognition test 6 h and 1 d after the surgery of the O2 group was significantly lower (P<0.05), the latency and errors in Barnes maze at the 1st day and 2nd day after the surgery were increased significantly (P<0.05) and the expression of IL-1β mRNA in hippocampus was significantly increased at the 1st day after the operation (P<0.05). However, there was no difference in the preference index in NORT 6 h and 1 d after the surgery, the latency and errors in Barnes maze and the expression of IL-1β mRNA in hippocampus between the O1 group and the H1 group, the H3 group and the O3 group (all P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS The rate with intermittent hypoxia 14 d pretreatment with anesthesia and laparotomy could be established the animal model of postoperative cognitive impairment.

Abstract
Light therapy has been used as a non-pharmacologic treatment to modulate biorhythms in patients with mental and psychological conditions. These conditions include affective disorders and depression. Delirium is a syndrome characterized by an acute change in a patient's mental status. We hypothesized that light therapy might suppress delirium in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). A 4-week randomized controlled trial was conducted in which AD participants were randomly assigned to a treatment group or a control group. Delirium, defined by the Confusion Assessment Method (CAM), was evaluated at baseline and after 4 weeks. The Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI) and Zarit Caregiver Burden Interview (ZBI) were also conducted to assess the behavior of patients and the burden of their caregivers. For this study, 61 participants were initially recruited. A total of 34 and 27 participants were included in the treatment and control groups, respectively. After treatment with light therapy, the CAM score decreased during the second and fourth week. The NPI score in the therapy group also decreased during the second and fourth week. From the caregiver's perspective, after light therapy, the ZBI score significantly decreased during the second and fourth week. Compared with the control group, patients who underwent CAM and NPI assessments showed a small but significant improvement after 4 weeks of light therapy. In conclusion, a course of 4-week light therapy significantly suppressed delirium in patients with AD. The combined effects of light therapy and conventional treatment were superior to that of conventional treatment alone.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the expulsion effect of sodium dimercaptopropanesulfonate (DMPS) on mercury in different organs of mercury poisoning and the therapeutic effect of glutathione (GSH) combined with antioxidant therapy on mercury poisoning. Methods: In February 2019, 50 SPF male SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups, 10 rats in each group: A (saline negative control group) , B (HgCL2 positive control group) , treatment group (C: intramuscular injection of DMPS 15 mg/kg treatment, D: intramuscular injection of DMPS30 mg/kg treatment, E: intramuscular injection of DMPS 15 mg/kg and intraperitoneal injection of GSH200 mg/kg treatment) . Rats in group B, C, D and E were subcutaneously injected with mercury chloride solution (1 mg/kg) to establish a rat model of subacute mercury poisoning kidney injury. Rats in group A were subcutaneously injected with normal saline. After the establishment of the model, rats in the treatment group were injected with DMPS and GSH. Rats in group A and group B were injected with normal saline. At 21 d (treatment 7 d) and 28 d (treatment 14 d) after exposure, urine and blood samples of 5 rats in each group were collected. Blood biochemistry, urine mercury, urine microalbumin and mercury content in renal cortex, cerebral cortex and cerebellum were detected. Results: After exposure to mercury, the contents of mercury in renal cortex, cerebrum and cerebellum of rats in group B, C, D and E increased, and urine microalbumin increased. Pathology showed renal tubular injury and renal interstitial inflammation. Compared with group B, urinary mercury and renal cortex mercury in group C, D and E decreased rapidly after DMPS treatment, and there was no significant decrease in mercury levels in cerebellum and cerebral cortex of rats, accompanied by transient increase in urinary albumin after DMPS treatment (P<0.05) ; the renal interstitial inflammation in group E was improved after GSH treatment. There was a positive correlation between urinary mercury and the contents of mercury in renal cortex, cerebral cortex and cerebellum (r=0.61, 0.47, 0.48, P<0.05) . Conclusion: DMPS mercury expulsion treatment can significantly reduce the level of metal mercury in the kidney, and there is no significant change in the level of metal mercury in the cortex and cerebellum.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Depression disorder is accompanied by cognitive impairments. However, there is limited research focused on cognitive impairments and their neurological mechanism in adolescents with depression. The purpose of the current study is to illustrate the differences in brain activity patterns between depressed adolescents and healthy controls (HCs). METHOD A total of 72 adolescents with depression, as well as 74 HCs, were recruited. We utilized functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to monitor the concentrations of oxyhemoglobin (Oxy-Hb) in the brains of participants while they performed the verbal fluency task (VFT) to examine cognitive impairment in adolescents with depression. RESULTS Our study demonstrated that adolescents with depression had significantly less cortical activation in the hemodynamic responses of Oxy-Hb at channels mainly located in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) than HCs during the 60-s task period (false discovery rate (FDR)-corrected p < 0.05). The mean channel-to-channel connectivity was 0.400 for HCs (SD = 0.149) and 0.303 (SD = 0.138) for adolescents with depression, and the HC group had a higher mean channel-to-channel connectivity strength than the depression group (t = -15.586, p < 0.001). For the patient group, we found significant negative correlations between HAMD scores and mean Oxy-Hb changes in Channel 38 (r = -0.33, p < 0.01), Channel 39 (r = -0.34, p < 0.01), Channel 41 (r = -0.25, p < 0.05), Channel 42 (r = -0.28, p < 0.05), and Channel 44 (r = -0.27, p < 0.05), and these channels were mainly located in areas with little difference between groups. CONCLUSIONS Our study provides neurological evidence about the executive function (EF) in depressed adolescents. Adolescents with depression exhibited an abnormal activation pattern and decreased task-related functional connectivity compared to HCs. The changed Oxy-Hb concentration of PFC during VFT was not sensitive to depression symptoms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This trial aimed to analyze the relationship between hyperthyroidism and the morbidity rate of hypercalcemia in the Xindu district, Chengdu, Sichuan province. We observed the level of serum calcium, the bone metabolic and thyroid autoimmune-related antibodies index during vitamin D3 treatment combined with traditional antithyroid drugs (ATD). METHODS Our research included hyperthyroid patients with a first-time diagnosis of Graves diseases (GD) combined with hypercalcemia on the basis of conventional anti-hyperthyroidism therapy, which were randomized into a vitamin D3 group (vitamin D3, 800-1,200 IU/day) and an ATD group (methimazole, 15-30 mg/day). All hyperthyroidism patients with hypercalcemia were analyzed, and changes in serum calcium (Ca2+), parathyroid hormone (PTH), thyroid function, thyroid autoimmune-related antibodies, and 25-dihydroxyvitamin D (25-OHVit D) levels during treatment of thyrotoxicosis with added vitamin D3 were explored. RESULTS In total, 184 patients with hyperthyroidism were observed, including 36 (19.57%) patients associated with hypercalcemia, with an age of onset of (56.39±5.80) years old. Twelve (6.52%) of these 36 cases reported digestive symptoms as the first manifestation, and four (2.17%) patients presented with a hypercalcemia crisis as the first manifestation. Serum Ca2+, free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), and thyrotropin hormone receptor antibody (TRAb) levels increased in patients with hypercalcemia. Following the addition of vitamin D3 treatment, serum Ca2+, FT3, FT4, and TRAb levels were significantly decreased relative to the ATD group, while the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), PTH, and 25-OHVit D levels were normalized. CONCLUSIONS Our study highlighted the importance of taking functional digestive disturbance into consideration in hyperthyroidism diagnosis, even in the absence of the typical symptoms. The level of thyroid related antibodies, thyroid function, and bone metabolism in hyperthyroidism patients combined with hypercalcemia could be improved by vitamin D3 adjuvant therapy. Abstract
BACKGROUND Retinal biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease (AD) have been extensively investigated in recent decades. Retinal nervous and vascular parameters can reflect brain conditions, and they can facilitate early diagnosis of AD. OBJECTIVE Our study aimed to evaluate the difference in retinal neuro-layer thickness and vascular parameters of patients with AD and healthy controls (HCs). METHODS Non-invasive optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) was used to determine the combined thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and ganglion cell layer (GCL), as well as the full retinal thickness (FRT). The vascular branching (VB), vascular curvature (VC), and vascular density (VD) for AD and HC groups were also obtained. The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) was used to evaluate the cognitive performance of all the participants. After obtaining all the parameters, two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare the mean values of all the retinal parameters of the patients with AD and the HCs. Pearson's correlation was used to test the association between retinal parameters, MMSE scores, and vascular parameters. RESULTS Seventy-eight eyes from 39 participants (19 AD and 20 HC; male, 52.6% in AD and 45.0% in HC; mean [standard deviation] age of 73.79 [7.22] years in AD and 74.35 [6.07] years in HC) were included for the analysis. The average RNFL + GCL thickness (106.32 ± 7.34 μm), FRTs of the four quadrants (290.35 ± 13.05 μm of inferior quadrant, 294.68 ± 9.37 μm of superior quadrant, 302.97 ± 6.52 μm of nasal quadrant, 286.02 ± 13.74 μm of temporal quadrant), and retinal VD (0.0148 ± 0.003) of patients with AD, compared with the HCs, were significantly reduced (p < 0.05). Retinal thickness was significantly correlated with the MMSE scores (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, retinal VD was significantly correlated with the average RNFL + GCL thickness (r2 = 0.2146, p < 0.01). When the vascular parameters were considered, the sensitivity of the AD diagnosis was increased from 0.874 to 0.892. CONCLUSION Our study suggested that the patients with AD, compared with age-matched HCs, had significantly reduced RNFL + GCL thickness and vascular density. These reductions correlated with the cognitive performance of the participants. By combining nerve and vessel parameters, the diagnosis of AD can be improved using OCTA technology. Abstract
Dating methodologies for Quaternary marine sediments play increasingly important roles in the reconstruction of paleoenvironments and paleoclimate in (paleo)oceanography. Previous reviews or studies have focused mainly on one or two methodologies, and their applications in one specific environment. With the continuing technological and methodological advances in different methods over the past few decades, an up-to-date comparison of the pros and cons of each dating methodology is needed to clearly understand their applications in marine geoscience research. In this review, we first briefly summarized the common methods of absolute dating and relative dating. These are (1) radioisotope dating with different half-lives using natural nuclides of 234Th, 210Pb, 230Th, and 226Ra, cosmogenic nuclides of 7Be, 14C, 10Be, 32Si, 26Al, 36Cl and 21Ne, and the artificial radionuclides of 137Cs, 239, 240Pu, 241Am and 129I that have been induced by atmospheric nuclear tests, accidents in nuclear plants, and discharges of radioactive wastes; (2) radiation exposure dating of luminescence and electron paramagnetic resonance (ESR) dating; and (3) stratigraphic dating of δ18O and paleomagnetic sequence. Applications and limitations from the marine terraces, estuaries, to hadal trenches have been summarized to each technique in the study of Quaternary marine geoscience extending from the Anthropocene through the Pleistocene. Finally, we introduced some emerging event dating methods, namely the arrivals of microplastics, mercury isotopes, and organic pollutant deposition that all appeared after the industrial resolution in our now changing ocean influenced by acidification, global warming, and anthropogenic activities. We ended by discussing future perspectives for reliable and high-resolution chronology by interdisciplinary methods including computer programming to better understand the natural geological evolution and predict the future changes in earth science.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Symmetrical dimethylarginine (ADMA) endogenously inhibits nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and strongly indicates oxidant stress, whose formation primarily derived from type 1 protein arginine N-methyltransferase (PRMT1) and whose metabolism was governed by type 1 dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase (DDAH1). This study aimed to evaluate participation of the PRMT1-ADMA-DDAH1 metabolism axis in the kidneys of type 2 diabetes model rats and human subjects, and the effect of probucol on this axis and renal function. METHODS A total of 30 rats were randomly assigned to a normal group (NC, n=10), diabetic group (DM, n=10), and a diabetics under probucol treatment group (PM, n=10). Throughout 8 weeks of probucol treatment, plasma NOS, the malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), nitric oxide (NO), and catalase (CAT) activity were evaluated by chemical colorimetric approach. ADMA concentration was evaluated with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and analysis of expression of PRMT1 and DDAH1 in kidneys with reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), immunohistochemistry (IHC) and western blotting were performed. RESULTS The expression of DDAH1 in the kidney, and the plasma NOS, NO, SOD, and CAT activities in diabetic group were lower, while MDA and the expression of PRMT1 and ADMA were higher in contrast to the control group. In diabetics rats receiving probucol, the expressions of DDAH1 and ADMA were downregulated, whereas that of PRMT1 was upregulated. Probucol inhibited the indexes of oxidative stress and improved the kidney function in both diabetic rats and humans. CONCLUSIONS We found that the expression of the PRMT1-ADMA-DDAH1 axis was altered in the kidneys of diabetic rats. Moreover, results indicated that probucol therapy regulates expression at both ends of this axis, which may preserve renal function by reducing oxidant stress. Therefore, probucol may partially restore expression of the PRMT1-ADMA-DDAH1 axis in diabetic kidneys, immigrate oxidant stress, and enhance renal function.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the prognostic value of the morphology of tumor invasion front (TIF) in Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). PATIENTS AND METHODS Seventy-four ICC patients with complete clinicopathological data and follow-up information were enrolled in our study. The most typical morphology of TIF of each case will be classified as low-grade group or high-grade group after evaluation by two pathologists. The clinicopathological characteristics, disease-free survival (DFS), and overall survival (OS) were compared between the two groups. RESULTS A total of 26 (35.3%) patients were assigned to low-grade group, while 48 (64.7%) patients were assigned to high-grade group. High-grade group was associated with higher CA19-9 (p=0.032), poor differentiation (p=0.050), larger tumor diameter (p=0.016), advanced T staging (p=0.048), and higher incidence of lymph node (LN) metastasis (0.014). No significant associations were found in demographic and clinical characteristics between the two groups. On multivariable analysis, high-grade group was a significant independent predictor of worse DFS (HR=0.433, 95% CI=0.235-0.800, p=0.002) and OS (HR=0.363, 95% CI=0.187-0.704, p=0.003). CONCLUSIONS High-grade morphology of TIF was an independent prognostic factor of ICC.

Abstract
This paper reported the distribution of phytoplankton biomarkers in surface sediments of Liaodong Bay, Bohai Sea. The primary productivity indicated by biomarkers is consistent with the results from modern water column phytoplankton surveys, indicating that the biomarkers can be used to reconstruct the primary productivity. The productivity in the bay mouth is higher than in the shallow coast area, indicating that the main controlling factor is the turbidity rather than terrestrial nutrients. The high primary productivity near Juhua Island is mainly related to eutrophication caused by human culture and land-based sewage discharge. The relative proportion of biomarkers showed that diatom and dinoflagellate contributed more to the coastal area and were mainly related to the competitive advantage under the condition of high nutrient salts, while a high proportion of haptophytes was found in the middle, which corresponded to the high salinity water.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Pathology and microbiology results for suspected spondylodiscitis on MR imaging are often negative in up to 70% of cases. We aimed to predict whether MR imaging features will add diagnostic value when combined with clinical biomarkers to predict positive findings of spondylodiscitis on pathology and/or microbiology from percutaneous biopsy. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this retrospective single-center institutional review board-approved study, patients with radiologically suspected spondylodiscitis and having undergone percutaneous biopsies were assessed. Demographic characteristics, laboratory values, and tissue and blood cultures were collected. Pathology and microbiology results were used as end points. Three independent observers provided MR imaging-based scoring for typical MR imaging features for spondylodiscitis. Multivariate logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic analysis were performed to determine an optimal combination of imaging and clinical biomarkers in predicting positive findings on pathology and/or microbiology from percutaneous biopsy suggestive of spondylodiscitis. RESULTS Our patient cohort consisted of 72 patients, of whom 33.3% (24/72) had spondylodiscitis. The mean age was 63 ± 16 years with a male/female ratio of 41:31. Logistic regression revealed a combination with an area under the curve of 0.72 for pathology and 0.68 for pathology and/or microbiology. Epidural enhancement on MR imaging improved predictive performance to 0.87 for pathology and 0.78 for pathology and/or microbiology. CONCLUSIONS Our findings demonstrate that epidural enhancement on MR imaging added diagnostic value when combined with clinical biomarkers to help predict which patients undergoing percutaneous biopsy will have positive findings for spondylodiscitis on pathology and/or microbiology.

Abstract
BACKGROUND An increasing number of studies have shown that Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a systemic disease characterized by brain dysfunction. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of curcumin on the liver, an important metabolic organ, and on the brain in APPswe/PS1dE9 (APP/PS1) mice, and the interaction between these effects. METHODS Curcumin was administered to 5-month-old APP/PS1 transgenic mice for 7 consecutive days using the intragastric (ig) and intracerebroventricular (icv) administration routes, respectively. The object recognition test (ORT) and open field test (OFT) were conducted to evaluate long-term recognition memory and anxiety after curcumin administration. Levels of β-amyloid (Aβ), Aβ42, and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) in the brain and liver were measured. RESULTS In the ig group, curcumin ameliorated anxiety-like behavior and suppressed the level of Aβ42 in the liver and the total Aβ in the brain. In the icv group, curcumin treatment affected the distribution of Aβ42 and IL-1β in the brain compared to the liver. There was a significant treatment-region interaction in Aβ42 level for the icv group (F(1, 24) = 17.7, p < 0.001), but no interaction effect for the ig group. CONCLUSION Our findings show that curcumin administration before Aβ deposition shows promise for preventing AD, and further that curcumin may play an important role in the clearance of Aβ42 from the brain to the peripheral circulation.

Abstract
Objective: To summarize the clinical characteristics and liver biochemical parameters of 324 cases admitted with novel coronavirus pneumonia in Shanghai area. Methods: Clinical data and baseline liver biochemical parameters of 324 cases with novel coronavirus pneumonia admitted to the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center from January 20, 2020 to February 24, 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into two groups based on the status of illness: mild type (mild and typical) and severe type (severe and critical).The differences in clinical data and baseline liver biochemical parameters of the two groups were described and compared. The t-test and Wilcoxon rank-sum test were used for measurement data. The enumeration data were expressed by frequency and rate, and chi-square test was used. Results: Of the 324 cases with novel coronavirus pneumonia, 26 were severe cases (8%), with median onset of 5 days, 20 cases were HBsAg positive (6.2%), and 70 cases (21.6%) with fatty liver, diagnosed with X-ray computed tomography. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), γ-glutamyl transferase (GGT), total bilirubin (TBil), albumin(ALB) and international normalized ratio (INR) of 324 cases at baseline were 27.86 ± 20.02 U/L, 29.33 ± 21.02 U/L, 59.93 ± 18.96 U / L, 39.00 ± 54.44 U/L, 9.46 ± 4.58 μmol / L, 40.64 ± 4.13 g / L and 1.02 ± 0.10. Of which, ALT was > than the upper limit of normal (> ULN), accounting for 15.7% (51/324). ALT and AST > ULN, accounting for 10.5% (34/324). ALP > ULN, accounting for 1.2% (4/324). ALP and GGT > ULN, accounting for 0.9% (3/324). INR > ULN was lowest, accounting for 0.6% (2/324). There were no statistically significant differences (P > 0.05) in ALT [(21.5 vs. 26) U / L, P = 0.093], ALP [(57 vs.59) U/L, P = 0.674], and GGT [(24 vs.28) U/L, P = 0.101] between the severe group and the mild group. There were statistically significant differences in AST (23 U/L vs. 34 U/L, P < 0.01), TBil (10.75 vs. 8.05 μmol / L, P < 0.01), ALB (35.79 ± 4.75 vs. 41.07 ± 3.80 g/L, P < 0.01), and INR (1.00 vs. 1.04, P < 0.01). Conclusion: The baseline liver biochemical parameters of 324 cases with novel coronavirus pneumonia in Shanghai area was comparatively lower and the liverinjury degree was mild, and the bile duct cell damage was rare.
