Abstract
BACKGROUND Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to improve the prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC). At present, there is a lack of an accurate CRC screening factor. We conducted folate receptor-positive circulating tumor cell analysis (FR + CTC analysis) in distinguishing CRC from benign colorectal diseases to evaluate the diagnostic efficiency. METHODS Clinical data of patients admitted to The First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University from January 2021 to July 2022 were retrospectively collected. Levels of FR + CTC and other indicators were analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed to assess the diagnostic performance of these molecular biomarkers. RESULTS Data of 103 patients with CRC and 54 patients with benign colorectal diseases were collected. FR + CTC levels were observed significantly higher in CRC patients than in patients with benign colorectal diseases (P < 0.001). FR + CTC level was correlated with tumor diameter, differentiation, T-stage, pathological stage, clinical stage, and intravascular tumor thrombus in patients with CRC (P < 0.05). The optimal cutoff value of FR + CTC level for diagnosing CRC patients was 7.66 FU/3 ml, with a sensitivity of 85.4%, a specificity of 74.1%, and an Area Under Curve (AUC) of 0.855 (95% CI 0.77-0.923). In < 50-years old patients with CRC, the diagnostic efficiency of FR + CTC was excellent, with an AUC of 0.936 (95% CI 0.877-0.995). CONCLUSION FR + CTC counting has excellent diagnostic efficiency in screening of CRC. FR + CTC count can also predict the tumor stage of CRC patients before surgery, and guide the choice of treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) are the most common tumor markers detected before and after gastric cancer (GC) surgery. However, the impact of post-preoperative CEA/CA19-9 increments on prognosis of GC remains unclear. In addition, there is no research incorporating post-preoperative CEA/CA19-9 increments into the prognostic model. METHODS Patients who underwent radical gastrectomy for GC at the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University and Anhui Provincial Hospital from January 2013 to December 2017 were enrolled and divided into the discovery and validation cohort. Prognostic value of post-preoperative CEA/CA19-9 increments and preoperative CEA/CA199 levels were assessed by Kaplan-Meier log-rank analysis and compared by time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (t-ROC) curves. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was applied to establish the nomogram. The performance of the prognostic model was validated by the concordance index (C-index), calibration curve, and ROC curve analysis. RESULTS A total of 562 GC patients were included in this study. Overall survival (OS) rates decreased with an increasing number of incremental tumor markers after surgery. The t-ROC curves implied that the prognostic ability of the number of incremental post-preoperative tumor markers was superior to that of the number of positive preoperative tumor markers. Cox regression analysis suggested that the number of incremental post-preoperative tumor markers was an independent prognostic factor. The nomogram incorporated with the post-preoperative CEA/CA19-9 increments showed reliable accuracy. CONCLUSIONS Incremental post-preoperative CEA/CA19-9 were indicator of poor prognosis of GC. The prognostic value of post-preoperative CEA/CA19-9 increments exceed that of preoperative CEA/CA19-9 levels.

Abstract
Prediction of prognosis after radical resection of gastric cancer has not been well established. Therefore, we aimed to establish a prognostic model based on a new score system of patients with gastric cancer. A total of 1235 patients who underwent curative gastrectomy at our hospital from October 2015 to April 2017 were included in this study. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to screen for prognostic risk factors. Construction of the nomogram was based on Cox proportional hazard regression models. The construction of the new score models was analyzed by the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve), calibration curve, and decision curve. Multivariate analysis showed that tumor size, T, N, carcinoembryonic antigen, CA125, and CA19-9 were independent prognostic factors. The new score model had a greater AUC (The area under the ROC curve) than other systems, and the C-index of the nomogram was highly reliable for evaluating the survival of patients with gastric cancer. Based on the tumor markers and other clinical indicators, we developed a precise model to predict the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer after radical surgery. This score system can be helpful to both surgeons and patients.

Abstract
Background: The incidence of gastric cancer (GC) ranks fourth among all malignant tumors worldwide, and the fatality rate ranks second among all malignant tumors. Several Chinese traditional medicines have been used in the treatment of advanced gastric cancer. This study aims to investigate the effect of combinational use of natural product cryptotanshinone (CTS) with anti-cancer drug trifluorothymidine (FTD) in GC.Methods: Cell Counting Kit-8 assay was used to detect the inhibitory effect of the combinational or separate use of FTD and CTS on the growth of HGC-27 and AGS GC cells. The combined index of FTD and CTS was calculated using CompuSyn software. To understand the mechanism, we applied flow cytometry to study the cell cycle and cell apoptosis after treatment. We also investigated the amount of FTD incorporated into the DNA by immunofluorescence assay. The expression of relevant proteins was monitored using western blot. Furthermore, the effect of using TAS-102 in combination with CTS was studied in xenograft tumor nude mice model.Results: FTD and CTS inhibited the growth of GC cells in a dose-dependent manner, respectively. They both exhibited low to sub-micromolar potency in HGC-27 and AGS cells. The combination of FTD and CTS showed synergistic anticancer effect in HGC-27 cells and AGS cells. Our mechanism studies indicate that FTD could block HGC-27 cells at G2/M phase, while CTS could block HGC-27 cells at G1/G0 phase, while FTD combined with CTS could mainly block HGC-27 cells at G2 phase. FTD in combination with CTS significantly increased the apoptosis of HGC-27 cells. We observed that CTS treatment increased the incorporation of FTD into the DNA HGC-27 cell. FTD treatment activated STAT3 phosphorylation in HGC-27 cells, while CTS treatment down-regulated the concentration of p-STAT3. Interestingly, the combination of CTS and FTD reduced STAT3 phosphorylation induced by FTD. In the in vivo experiments, we observed that the combination of TAS-102 with CTS was significantly more potent than TAS-102 on tumor growth inhibition.Conclusions: FTD combined with CTS has a synergistic anti-gastric cancer effect as shown by in vitro and in vivo experiments, and the combined treatment of FTD and CTS will be a promising treatment option for advanced gastric cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND For the prognosis of patients with early gastric cancer (EGC), lymph node metastasis (LNM) plays a crucial role. A thorough and precise evaluation of the patient for LNM is now required.
AIM To determine the factors influencing LNM and to construct a prediction model of LNM for EGC patients.
METHODS Clinical information and pathology data of 2217 EGC patients downloaded from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database were collected and analyzed. Based on a 7:3 ratio, 1550 people were categorized into training sets and 667 people were assigned to testing sets, randomly. Based on the factors influencing LNM determined by the training sets, the nomogram was drawn and verified.
RESULTS Based on multivariate analysis, age at diagnosis, histology type, grade, T-stage, and size were risk factors of LNM for EGC. Besides, nomogram was drawn to predict the risk of LNM for EGC patients. Among the categorical variables, the effect of grade (well, moderate, and poor) was the most significant prognosis factor. For training sets and testing sets, respectively, area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve of nomograms were 0.751 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.721-0.782] and 0.786 (95%CI: 0.742-0.830). In addition, the calibration curves showed that the prediction model of LNM had good consistency.
CONCLUSION Age at diagnosis, histology type, grade, T-stage, and tumor size were independent variables for LNM in EGC. Based on the above risk factors, prediction model may offer some guiding implications for the choice of subsequent therapeutic approaches for EGC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignant tumors. After resection, one of the major problems is its peritoneal dissemination and recurrence. Some free cancer cells may still exist after resection. In addition, the surgery itself may lead to the dissemination of tumor cells. Therefore, it is necessary to remove residual tumor cells. Recently, some researchers found that extensive intraoperative peritoneal lavage (EIPL) plus intraperitoneal chemotherapy can improve the prognosis of patients and eradicate peritoneal free cancer for GC patients. However, few studies explored the safety and long-term outcome of EIPL after curative gastrectomy.
AIM To evaluate the efficacy and long-term outcome of advanced GC patients treated with EIPL.
METHODS According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 150 patients with advanced GC were enrolled in this study. The patients were randomly allocated to two groups. All patients received laparotomy. For the non-EIPL group, peritoneal lavage was washed using no more than 3 L of warm saline. In the EIPL group, patients received 10 L or more of saline (1 L at a time) before the closure of the abdomen. The surviving rate analysis was compared by the Kaplan-Meier method. The prognostic factors were carried out using the Cox appropriate hazard pattern.
RESULTS The basic information in the EIPL group and the non-EIPL group had no significant difference. The median follow-up time was 30 mo (range: 0-45 mo). The 1- and 3-year overall survival (OS) rates were 71.0% and 26.5%, respectively. The symptoms of ileus and abdominal abscess appeared more frequently in the non-EIPL group (P < 0.05). For the OS of patients, the EIPL, Borrmann classification, tumor size, N stage, T stage and vascular invasion were significant indicators. Then multivariate analysis revealed that EIPL, tumor size, vascular invasion, N stage and T stage were independent prognostic factors. The prognosis of the EIPL group was better than the non-EIPL group (P < 0.001). The 3-year survival rate of the EIPL group (38.4%) was higher than the non-EIPL group (21.7%). For the recurrence-free survival (RFS) of patients, the risk factor of RFS included EIPL, N stage, vascular invasion, type of surgery, tumor location, Borrmann classification, and tumor size. EIPL and tumor size were independent risk factors. The RFS curve of the EIPL group was better than the non-EIPL group (P = 0.004), and the recurrence rate of the EIPL group (24.7%) was lower than the non-EIPL group (46.4%). The overall recurrence rate and peritoneum recurrence rate in the EIPL group was lower than the non-EIPL group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION EIPL can reduce the possibility of perioperative complications including ileus and abdominal abscess. In addition, the overall survival curve and RFS curve were better in the EIPL group.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nearly 66% of occurrences of gastric cancer (GC), which has the second-highest death rate of all cancers, arise in developing countries. In several cancers, the predictive significance of inflammatory markers has been established.
AIM To identify clinical characteristics and develop a specific nomogram to determine overall survival for GC patients.
METHODS Nine hundred and four GC patients treated at the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University between January 2010 and January 2013 were recruited. Prognostic risk variables were screened for Cox analysis. The C index, receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve, and decision curve analysis were used to evaluate the nomogram.
RESULTS Tumor node metastasis stage, carcinoembryonic antigen, systemic immune-inflammation index, and age were identified as independent predictive variables by multivariate analysis. Systemic immune-inflammation index value was superior to that of other inflammatory indicators. The ROC indicated the nomogram had a higher area under the curve than other factors, and its C-index for assessing the validation and training groups of GC patients was extremely reliable.
CONCLUSION We created a novel nomogram to forecast the prognosis of GC patients following curative gastrectomy based on blood markers and other characteristics. Both surgeons and patients can benefit significantly from this new scoring system.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of liver cancer and has a high risk of invasion and metastasis along with a poor prognosis.
AIM To investigate the independent predictive markers for disease-free survival (DFS) in patients with HCC and establish a trustworthy nomogram.
METHODS In this study, 445 patients who were hospitalized in The First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical College between December 2009 and December 2014 were retrospectively examined. The survival curve was plotted using the Kaplan–Meier method and survival was determined using the log-rank test. To identify the prognostic variables, multivariate Cox regression analyses were carried out. To predict the DFS in patients with HCC, a nomogram was created. C-indices and receiver operator characteristic curves were used to evaluate the nomogram's performance. Decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to evaluate the clinical application value of the nomogram.
RESULTS Longer DFS was observed in patients with the following characteristics: elderly, I–II stage, and no history of hepatitis B. The calibration curve showed that this nomogram was reliable and had a higher area under the curve value than the tumor node metastasis (TNM) stage. Moreover, the DCA curve revealed that the nomogram had good clinical applicability in predicting 3- and 5-year DFS in HCC patients after surgery.
CONCLUSION Age, TNM stage, and history of hepatitis B infection were independent factors for DFS in HCC patients, and a novel nomogram for DFS of HCC patients was created and validated.

Abstract
Background Necroptosis is a recently discovered form of cell death that plays an important role in the occurrence and development of colon adenocarcinoma (COAD). Our study aimed to construct a risk score model to predict the prognosis of patients with COAD based on necroptosis-related genes. Methods The gene expression data of COAD and normal colon samples were obtained from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx). The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Cox regression analysis was used to calculate the risk score based on prognostic necroptosis-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Based on the risk score, patients were classified into high- and low-risk groups. Then, nomogram models were built based on the risk score and clinicopathological features. Otherwise, the model was verified in the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Additionally, the tumor microenvironment (TME) and the level of immune infiltration were evaluated by "ESTIMATE" and single-sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA). Functional enrichment analysis was carried out to explore the potential mechanism of necroptosis in COAD. Finally, the effect of necroptosis on colon cancer cells was explored through CCK8 and transwell assays. The expression of necroptosis-related genes in colon tissues and cells treated with necroptotic inducers (TNFα) and inhibitors (NEC-1) was evaluated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Results The risk score was an independent prognostic risk factor in COAD. The predictive value of the nomogram based on the risk score and clinicopathological features was superior to TNM staging. The effectiveness of the model was well validated in GSE152430. Immune and stromal scores were significantly elevated in the high-risk group. Moreover, necroptosis may influence the prognosis of COAD via influencing the cancer immune response. In in-vitro experiments, the inhibition of necroptosis can promote proliferation and invasion ability. Finally, the differential expression of necroptosis-related genes in 16 paired colon tissues and colon cancer cells was found. Conclusion A novel necroptosis-related gene signature for forecasting the prognosis of COAD has been constructed, which possesses favorable predictive ability and offers ideas for the necroptosis-associated development of COAD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, the incidence of types II and III adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction (AEG) has shown an obvious upward trend worldwide. The prognostic prediction after radical resection of AEG has not been well established.
AIM To establish a prognostic model for AEG (types II and III) based on routine markers.
METHODS A total of 355 patients who underwent curative AEG at The First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University from January 2014 to June 2015 were retrospectively included in this study. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify the independent risk factors. A nomogram was constructed based on Cox proportional hazards models. The new score models was analyzed by C index and calibration curves. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to compare the predictive accuracy of the scoring system and tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stage. Overall survival was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier curve amongst different risk AEG patients.
RESULTS Multivariate analysis showed that TNM stage (hazard ratio [HR] = 2.286, P = 0.008), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (HR = 2.979, P = 0.001), and body mass index (HR = 0.626, P = 0.026) were independent prognostic factors. The new scoring system had a higher concordance index (0.697), and the calibration curves of the nomogram were reliable. The area under the ROC curve of the new score model (3-year: 0.725, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.676-0.777; 5-year: 0.758, 95%CI: 0.708-0.807) was larger than that of TNM staging (3-year: 0.630, 95%CI: 0.585-0.684; 5-year: 0.665, 95%CI: 0.616-0.715).
CONCLUSION Based on the serum markers and other clinical indicators, we have developed a precise model to predict the prognosis of patients with AEG (types II and III). The new prognostic nomogram could effectively enhance the predictive value of the TNM staging system. This scoring system can be advantageous and helpful for surgeons and patients.

Abstract
Channels are commonly used in long-distance water transfer projects, where landslides, collapses, or erosion may occur in its course of operation; thus, safety evaluation is conducted through monitoring and detection in its key and potentially hazardous areas. However, monitoring and detection information cannot comprehensively reflect the prominent problems of the safety state of the channel in terms of time and space. Therefore, studying how to realize the integration of monitoring and detection information is an important task for the safety evaluations of channels. In this paper, a method of integrating monitoring and detection information based on Bayesian theory is presented. The research shows that the fusion method of gathering monitoring and detection information based on Bayesian theory successfully captures the safety state of high-filling channels, and it can quantify and reduce uncertainty compared with fuzzy theory and the GA-BP neural network. By studying the influence of monitoring information on the safety of the channel, it is found that the horizontal displacement has a greater impact on the safety of the channel than the vertical displacement. A comparison of the results of fusing seven different monitoring points shows that the comprehensive utilization of horizontal and vertical displacement can improve the accuracy of the evaluation results. Compared to the safety coefficient calculated by the actual exploration, the error rate of the GA-BP neural network is 42.7%, and the fusion method based on Bayesian theory is 2.9%. The proposed method based on Bayesian theory can better use the detection information to recognize and understand the rock and soil in advance; hence, the evaluation results are more reliable and consistent with the actual engineering state.

Abstract
Recent studies in patients with spinal cord injuries (SCIs) have confirmed the diagnostic potential of biofluid-based biomarkers, as a topic of increasing interest in relation to SCI diagnosis and treatment. This paper reviews the research progress and application prospects of recently identified SCI-related biomarkers. Many structural proteins, such as glial fibrillary acidic protein, S100-β, ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase-L1, neurofilament light, and tau protein were correlated with the diagnosis, American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale, and prognosis of SCI to different degrees. Inflammatory factors, including interleukin-6, interleukin-8, and tumor necrosis factor α, are also good biomarkers for the diagnosis of acute and chronic SCI, while non-coding RNAs (microRNAs and long non-coding RNAs) also show diagnostic potential for SCI. Trace elements (Mg, Se, Cu, Zn) have been shown to be related to motor recovery and can predict motor function after SCI, while humoral markers can reflect the pathophysiological changes after SCI. These factors have the advantages of low cost, convenient sampling, and ease of dynamic tracking, but are also associated with disadvantages, including diverse influencing factors and complex level changes. Although various proteins have been verified as potential biomarkers for SCI, more convincing evidence from large clinical and prospective studies is thus required to identify the most valuable diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for SCI.

Abstract
目的 观察嵌合抗原受体T细胞(CART)序贯二次异基因造血干细胞移植(allo-HSCT)治疗移植后复发急性B淋巴细胞白血病(B-ALL)的疗效。 方法 回顾性分析2015年10月至2020年6月在河北燕达陆道培医院接受二次allo-HSCT的41例B-ALL患者的临床资料,入选患者均为移植后骨髓形态学或髓外复发且二次移植前接受CART治疗。 结果 全部41例患者中男21例、女20例,二次移植时中位年龄为16(3~46)岁。移植后骨髓复发31例(75.6%)、髓外复发5例(12.2%)、骨髓和髓外复发5例(12.2%)。复发后接受CD19-CART治疗35例(85.4%)、CD22-CART治疗2例(4.9%)、CD19-CART联合CD22-CART治疗4例(9.8%)。二次移植后预期3年总生存(OS)率为48.9%(95% CI 23.0%~70.6%)、无白血病生存(LFS)率为41.8%(95% CI 17.3%~64.9%),累积复发率(RI)为8.8%(95% CI 2.9%~26.4%),非复发相关死亡率(NRM)为51.1%(95% CI 31.2%~83.6%)。首次移植后复发时间≤6个月组(10例)二次移植后1年OS率低于复发时间>6个月组(31例)[45.0%(95% CI 12.7%~73.5%)对75.0%(95% CI 51.4%~88.8%),P=0.017]。 结论 CART序贯二次allo-HSCT可使部分造血干细胞移植后复发B-ALL患者获得长生存,但NRM较高,移植方案有待进一步改进。

Abstract
目的 比较亲缘单倍型造血干细胞移植(HIDT)和同胞相合造血干细胞移植(MSDT)治疗完全缓解期(CR)急性T淋巴细胞白血病(T-ALL)的疗效。 方法 回顾性分析2012年5月至2017年5月间在河北燕达陆道培医院接受HIDT(81例)和MSDT(17例)的CR期T-ALL患者的临床特点和预后。 结果 HIDT组、MSDT组移植后100 d Ⅱ~Ⅳ度急性GVHD发生率分别为51.9%(95%CI42.0%~64.0%)、29.4%(95%CI 14.1%~61.4%)(P=0.072),Ⅲ/Ⅳ度急性GVHD发生率分别为9.8%(95%CI 5.1%~19.1%)、11.8%(95%CI 3.2%~43.3%)(P=1.000),巨细胞病毒(CMV)血症发生率分别为53.1%(95%CI 43.3%~65.2%)、29.4%(95%CI 14.1%~61.4%)(P=0.115),EB病毒(EBV)血症发生率分别为35.8%(95%CI 26.8%~47.9%)、11.8%(95%CI 3.2%~43.3%)(P=0.048)。HIDT、MSDT两组移植后5年总生存(OS)率分别为60.5%(95%CI 5.4%~49.0%)、68.8%(95%CI 11.8%~40.0%)(P=0.315),无白血病生存(LFS)率分别为58.0%(95%CI 5.5%~46.5%)、68.8%(95%CI11.8%~40.0%)(P=0.258),累积复发率分别为16.1%(95% CI 9.8%~26.4%)、11.8%(95% CI3.2%~43.3%)(P=0.643),非复发死亡率(NRM)分别为25.9%(95%CI 17.9%~37.5%)、19.4%(95%CI6.9%~54.4%)(P=0.386)。 结论 对于CR期T-ALL患者,当缺乏合适供者时,HIDT可作为替代选择。

Abstract
目的 探讨在酪氨酸激酶抑制剂(TKI)时代Ph染色体阳性急性淋巴细胞白血病(Ph+ALL)在完全缓解(CR)状态下行异基因造血干细胞移植(allo-HSCT)的预后和影响因素。 方法 回顾性分析2012年5月至2017年5月河北燕达陆道培医院收治的116例在CR状态下行allo-HSCT的Ph+ALL患者的预后及其影响因素。 结果 116例患者中男72例,女44例。中位年龄20(4~64)岁。同胞全相合移植21例,亲缘单倍型移植77例,非血缘移植18例。5年总生存(OS)率为73.2%(95%CI 63.8%~80.5%),其中诊断至移植间隔时间<180 d的亚组5年OS率为87.5%。5年无病生存(DFS)率为61.4%(95%CI 51.8%~69.7%)。5年细胞形态及分子学水平复发累积发生率为18.5%(95%CI 12.6%~27.3%)。5年移植相关死亡率(TRM)为19.9%(95%CI 13.8%~28.7%)。多因素分析显示,15~39岁(HR=2.730,P=0.044)、诊断至移植间隔时间≥180 d(HR=4.534,P=0.010)、发生Ⅲ~Ⅳ度急性移植物抗宿主病(aGVHD)(HR=7.558,P=0.000)是影响患者OS的不利因素;发生局限型慢性移植物抗宿主病(cGVHD)是影响患者OS的有利因素(HR=0.300,P=0.034)。而性别、起病时WBC(<30×109/L,≥30×109/L)、BCR-ABL融合基因类型、体细胞突变类型、移植前状态(CR1,>CR1)、移植前微小残留病(MRD)水平(MRD阴性,MRD阳性)、预处理方案(全身照射方案,白消安为基础方案)、预处理方案强度、移植类型、GVHD预防方案(环孢素A,他克莫司)、抗胸腺细胞免疫球蛋白的种类、巨细胞病毒和EB病毒血症的有无对OS的影响无统计学意义。 结论 TKI时代Ph+ALL在CR状态下行allo-HSCT时,影响生存的因素有年龄、诊断至移植间隔时间和发生重度aGVHD。

Abstract
Background: Besides the well-established risk factors for gastric adenocarcinoma (GaC), many other etiological factors remain largely unexplored. This large comprehensive case-control study aimed to investigate the preventable lifestyle and eating habits associated with GaC. Methods: Consecutive patients with primary microscopically-confirmed GaC diagnosed in 2016-2018 were matched by sex, age, height, and socioeconomic status at a 1:1 ratio with healthy controls. Association of GaC versus control with investigated factors was assessed using the multivariable-adjusted conditional logistic regression for paired samples. Results: Together 302 GaC patients and 302 healthy controls were investigated. Participants receiving higher education and those eating majorly vegetables had less frequently GaC. The majorly frying cooking habit was associated with a higher incidence of GaC. People complaining about poor sleep quality had more often GaC. The more often one smoked, the more often he/she had GaC. A higher frequency for having pickled food was associated with more frequent GaC, while having more frequently vegetables/fruit, beans, or kelps was associated with less often GaC. A greater preference for sour or bitter taste was associated with less frequent GaC. The frequencies of thin liquid intake after meal, swallowing hot food without adequate cooling, doing other things while eating, eating overnight food, and eating midnight snack were all positively associated with GaC, while going to bed regularly was associated with less often GaC. Conclusions: Education level, sleep quality, smoking, the frequencies of use of several foods and seasonings, the preference for specific tastes, and various eating and living habits were associated with GaC. The findings offer important hints for further prospective investigations and for easy effective GaC-preventative strategy-making.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the distribution of tear film lipid layer thickness (LLT) and the relationship between symptoms and signs of dry eye and tear film LLT in the population of Taishitun Community in Beijing. Methods: A cross-sectional study. From May 2016 to August 2016, three streets of Taishitun Community were randomly selected as survey districts and 540 persons were taken as investigation subjects. Every participant completed 6 items of dry eye examinations as follows: questionnaire (Ocular Surface Disease Index, OSDI), measurement of tear film LLT, tear film break-up time (TBUT), corneal and conjunctival staining, SchirmerⅠtest and the infrared meibomian photography. According to their age, all participants were divided into four groups: junior group (<18 years old), youth group (18 to 40 years old), middle-aged group (41 to 59 years old) and the elderly group (over 60 years old). With the OSDI criteria, no dry eye symptom group (score, <12 points), mild to moderate dry eye symptom group (score, 12 to 32) and severe dry eye symptom group (score, 33-100) were included. With the statistical methods of variance analysis and multivariate Logistic regression analysis, distribution of the variables of LLT and the relationship between dry eye symptoms and LLT were studied. Results: A total of 473 residents finally participated in this study, and the response ratio was 87.6%. The values of LLT were normally distributed. The average LLT was (59.87±18.50) nm [(60.16±19.15) nm in males and (59.67±18.57) nm in females], and the comparison of LLT with different genders was not statistically significant (t=0.198, P=0.843). The tear film LLT of four different age groups had statistical significance (F=15.092, P<0.05), and increased with age [(56.10±18.33) nm in the junior group, (54.60±16.29) nm in the youth group, (60.61±19.18) nm in the middle-aged group and (73.25±14.58) nm in the elderly group]. The LLT was inversely proportional to the severity of dry eye symptoms. With a thinner LLT, the symptoms of the subjects turned severe. In the elderly with different degrees of symptoms, the LLT was significantly different (F=0.019, P<0.05), while in the youth and middle-aged groups with different degrees of symptoms, the LLT was not significantly different (F=0.096, P>0.05. F=0.538, P>0.05). In the OSDI symptom questionnaire, only blurred vision and decreased visual acuity were related to the tear film LLT (P<0.05). There was no significant correlation between the TBUT, SchirmerⅠtest result, meibomian gland loss rate and the tear film LLT (P>0.05). Conclusions: In Taishitun Community of Beijing, the values of tear film LLT had a normal distribution. The LLT was positively correlated with age, but inversely correlated with the severity of the symptoms of dry eye. There was no significant correlation between the LLT and the TBUT, SchirmerⅠtest result and meibomian gland loss rate.(Chin J Ophthalmol, 2017, 53: 495-501).

Abstract
Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells differentiate into neurons under the induction of Schwann cells. However, key microRNAs and related pathways for differentiation remain unclear. This study screened and identified differentially expressed microRNAs in bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells induced by Schwann cell-conditioned medium, and explored targets and related pathways involved in their differentiation into neuronal-like cells. Primary bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells were isolated from femoral and tibial bones, while primary Schwann cells were isolated from bilateral saphenous nerves. Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells were cultured in unconditioned (control group) and Schwann cell-conditioned medium (bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell + Schwann cell group). Neuronal differentiation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells induced by Schwann cell-conditioned medium was observed by time-lapse imaging. Upon induction, the morphology of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells changed into a neural shape with neurites. Results of quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction revealed that nestin mRNA expression was upregulated from 1 to 3 days and downregulated from 3 to 7 days in the bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell + Schwann cell group. Compared with the control group, microtubule-associated protein 2 mRNA expression gradually increased from 1 to 7 days in the bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell + Schwann cell group. After 7 days of induction, microRNA analysis identified 83 significantly differentially expressed microRNAs between the two groups. Gene Ontology analysis indicated enrichment of microRNA target genes for neuronal projection development, regulation of axonogenesis, and positive regulation of cell proliferation. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis demonstrated that Hippo, Wnt, transforming growth factor-beta, and Hedgehog signaling pathways were potentially associated with neural differentiation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells. This study, which carried out successful microRNA analysis of neuronal-like cells differentiated from bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells by Schwann cell induction, revealed key microRNAs and pathways involved in neural differentiation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells. All protocols were approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of Institute of Radiation Medicine, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences on March 12, 2017 (approval number: DWLI-20170311).

Abstract
Background Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a serious disease with high disability and mortality rates, with no effective therapeutic strategies available. In SCI, abnormal DNA methylation is considered to be associated with axonal regeneration and cell proliferation. However, the roles of key genes in potential molecular mechanisms of SCI are not clear. Material/Methods Subacute spinal cord injury models were established in Wistar rats. Histological observations and motor function assessments were performed separately. Whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS) was used to detect the methylation of genes. Gene ontology (GO) term enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis were performed using the DAVID database. Protein–protein interaction (PPI) networks were analyzed by Cytoscape software. Results After SCI, many cavities, areas of necrotic tissue, and many inflammatory cells were observed, and motor function scores were low. After the whole-genome bisulfite sequencing, approximately 96 DMGs were screened, of which 50 were hypermethylated genes and 46 were hypomethylated genes. KEGG pathway analysis highlighted the Axon Guidance pathway, Endocytosis pathway, T cell receptor signaling pathway, and Hippo signaling pathway. Expression patterns of hypermethylated genes and hypomethylated genes detected by qRT-PCR were the opposite of WGBS data, and the difference was significant. Conclusions Abnormal methylated genes and key signaling pathways involved in spinal cord injury were identified through histological observation, behavioral assessment, and bioinformatics analysis. This research can serve as a source of additional information to expand understanding of spinal cord-induced epigenetic changes.

Abstract
目的 比较半相合移植(Haplo-HSCT)、无关供者移植(MUD-HSCT)及同胞相合移植(MSD-HSCT)治疗中高危骨髓增生异常综合征(MDS)的疗效及其预后影响因素。 方法 回顾性分析2001年8月至2015年5月接受异基因造血干细胞移植(allo-HSCT)治疗的167例中高危MDS患者病例资料,比较不同移植方式下患者的预后特征及预后影响因素。 结果 存活患者中位随访60(12~177)个月。5年实际累积无病生存(DFS)率为67.8%(95% CI 60.0%~75.6%),其中MSD-HSCT组为68.0%(95% CI 54.1%~81.9%),MUD-HSCT组为77.4%(95% CI 62.1%~92.7%),Haplo-HSCT组为64.0%(95% CI 52.4%~75.6%),三组比较差异无统计学意义(P=0.632)。单因素分析结果显示移植前病程>12个月者累积DFS率明显低于≤12个月者(P=0.018)。5年累积复发死亡率和移植相关死亡率(TRM)与上面危险因素均无明显相关性。 结论 Haplo-HSCT治疗MDS疗效显著,可以作为重要的替代供者,特别是在缺乏MSD而病情紧急没有时间去等待搜索MUD的情况下,可以主动选择;移植前病程是影响DFS的重要因素。

Abstract
Background Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a traumatic disease of the central nervous system, accompanied with high incidence and high disability rate. Tissue engineering scaffold can be used as therapeutic systems to provide effective repair for SCI. Purpose In this study, a novel tissue engineering scaffold has been synthesized in order to explore the effect of nerve repair on SCI. Patients and methods Polycaprolactone (PCL) scaffolds loaded with actived Schwann cells (ASCs) and induced pluripotent stem cells -derived neural stem cells (iPSC-NSCs), a combined cell transplantation strategy, were prepared and characterized. The cell-loaded PCL scaffolds were further utilized for the treatment of SCI in vivo. Histological observation, behavioral evaluation, Western-blot and qRT-PCR were used to investigate the nerve repair of Wistar rats after scaffold transplantation. Results The iPSCs displayed similar characteristics to embryonic stem cells and were efficiently differentiated into neural stem cells in vitro. The obtained PCL scaffolds werê0.5 mm in thickness with biocompatibility and biodegradability. SEM results indicated that the ASCs and (or) iPS-NSCs grew well on PCL scaffolds. Moreover, transplantation reduced the volume of lesion cavity and improved locomotor recovery of rats. In addition, the degree of spinal cord recovery and remodeling maybe closely related to nerve growth factor and glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor. In summary, our results demonstrated that tissue engineering scaffold treatment could increase tissue remodeling and could promote motor function recovery in a transection SCI model. Conclusion This study provides preliminary evidence for using tissue engineering scaffold as a clinically viable treatment for SCI in the future.

Abstract
BACKGROUD Inflammation can promote tumor growth, invasion, angiogenesis and even metastasis. Inflammatory markers have prognostic value in some malignancies. The aim of the present study was to examine whether neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) served as sensitive serum markers for predicting lymph node metastasis and prognostic factors in gastric cancer (GC) patients. METHODS 904 consecutive patients who underwent radical total or subtotal gastrectomy between 2010 and 2011, were included in this study. The clinical utility of the NLR and PLR was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves,Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression analyses were used to calculate the overall survival (OS) characteristics. RESULTS We determined the cutoff values of NLR and PLR was 2.0 and 160 respectively according to the ROC curve. Both the NLR and PLR were significantly associated with LN (lymph node) metastasis, and high NLR and PLR groups were significantly associated with poor overall survival. Additionally, NLR and TNM stage were independent prognostic factors for overall survival, however, PLR had limited value. CONCLUSIONS NLR and PLR levels may be valuable indexes for lymph node metastasis. Although both the PLR and NLR may have prognostic value of gastric cancer patients, NLR is better to predict overall survival than PLR.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the effect of NCCN (2015) risk stratification on prognosis of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) . Methods: Retrospective analysis of 258 patients with AML in CR (186 cases in CR(1), 72 cases in CR(2)) who underwent allogeneic HSCT in our hospital between April 2012 and March 2015 according to NCCN (2015) risk stratification. Of them, 63 cases were classified as low risk, 112 cases intermediate risk and 83 cases high risk. Results: ①With the median follow up of 18 (5-41) months, two-year disease free surviva (DFS) in 258 patients was 78.0% (95% CI 60.4%-96.6%) . Two-year DFS in AML after transplantation was 78.6% (95% CI 61.0%-96.2%) in low risk, 76.0% (95% CI 84.0%-93.6%) in intermediate risk and 80.3% (95% CI 62.7%-97.9%) (P=0.886) in high risk groups respectively. ②Univariate analysis showed that DFS has no significant difference in patient age, the median disease course before HSCT, the WBC number at the beginning of the disease, blood routine and chromosomes examination before transplantation, extramedullary disease before transplantation, disease status before transplantation, conditioning regimen, donor type, donor and recipient sex, recipient blood type, transfused MNC number, transfused CD34(+) cell number and transfused CD3(+) cell number. DFS was significant lower in primary AML than that in secondary AML (P=0.006) and also lower in MRD positive than that in MRD negative (P=0.003) . The accumulative relapse was significant higher in CR(2) compared to that in CR(1) (P=0.046) . Accumulative non-relapse mortality (NRM) was significanlyt higher in secondary AML compared to that in primary AML (P=0.004) and also higher in MRD positive compared to that in MRD negative (P=0.010) . ③Multivariate analysis showed that MRD positive was the only significant factor in DFS and NRM. Conclusion: Allo-HSCT treatment of AML CR patients could achieve a high efficacy, which is similar between CR(1) and CR(2) patients. There is no significant correlation between NCCN (2015) risk stratification and the prognosis of AML patients with allo-HSCT treatment. Pre-conditioning MRD status monitored by multiparameter flow cytometry was the only impact factor on DFS and NRM in allo-HSCT for CR-AML patients.

Abstract
目的 分析预处理前多参数流式细胞术(MFC)监测的骨髓微小残留病(MRD)对急性髓系白血病(AML)异基因造血干细胞移植(allo-HSCT)预后的影响,探讨MFC监测MRD在AML allo-HSCT预后评估中的价值。 方法 回顾性分析2012年4月至2015年3月行allo-HSCT的186例AML患者,预处理前骨髓细胞形态学均达第1次完全缓解(CR1)。采用8色MFC对预处理前骨髓进行MRD检测,任何水平异常均定义为MRD阳性。 结果 ①186例AML患者中151例MRD阴性;35例MRD阳性,其中25例MRD<1%,10例MRD为1%~3%。②2年总体无病生存(DFS)率为80.0%(95% CI 68.5%~92.3%)。与MRD阴性组比较,MRD阳性组DFS率低[62.9%(95% CI 50.6%~75.2%)对88.9%(95%CI 76.6%~100.0%),P<0.001]、复发率高[11.4%(95%CI 4.1%~29.0%)对3.3%(95%CI 0.6%~20.9%),P=0.003]、非复发死亡率(NRM)高[25.7%(95%CI 8.1%~43.3%)对7.9%(95%CI 1.3%~26.5%),P=0.001]。继发性AML组DFS率低(P=0.004),NRM高(P=0.003)。③多因素分析结果显示预处理前MFC检测的MRD阳性是DFS[HR=4.565(95%CI 2.918~9.482),P<0.001]、复发[HR=5.854(95% CI 1.538~22.288),P=0.010]及非复发死亡[HR=3.379(95%CI 1.361~8.391),P=0.009]的独立危险因素。 结论 预处理前MFC监测的MRD阳性是影响allo-HSCT治疗CR1-AML独立危险因素,MFC监测MRD可用于AML allo-HSCT的预后评估。

Abstract
Objective To prospectively investigate associations of presurgical body mass index (BMI) with clinicopathological factors and its prognostic significance in radically D2-resected patients with non-metastasized gastric cancer (GC) and Siewert type II/III adenocarcinoma of esophagogastric junction (AEG). Methods A large prospective cohort consisting of radically-resected GC and AEG patients was analyzed. Follow-up was successful in 671 out of 700 patients, who were categorized into underweight (BMI<18.5), normal-weight (BMI=18.5-22.9), overweight (BMI=23-24.9), and obese (BMI≥25) groups according to Asian standards. BMI-associated factors were explored using multivariable logistic regression with adjustment. Cancer-specific survival analyses were conducted applying both univariable and multivariable Cox regression methods. Results Pre-operation, higher hemoglobin levels and smaller anemia proportions were observed in larger BMI groups. Higher BMI tended to be associated with higher neutrophil-lymphocyte ratios (NLRs). Patients with higher BMI had smaller tumors and more often stage I tumors, but longer surgical time and postsurgical stay. In multivariable analyses, higher hemoglobin levels, upper tumor location, poorer differentiation, and higher NLR were significantly associated with higher BMI. Overall, survival analyses revealed no significant role of BMI. However, in further stratifications after adjustment, compared to patients with normal BMI, obese patients had better survival in women, but worse in those with AEG; underweight was associated with reduced mortality risk in tumors differentiated well to moderately; overweight patients had increased death hazard when having thrombocytopenia. Conclusion Overall, preoperative BMI had limited prognostic significance in operated GC patients. However, under specific conditions (e.g., female, AEG, good differentiation, and thrombocytopenia), BMI might indicate postoperative survival.

Abstract
Cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS) is the second most common peripheral nerve compression disease, however, the pathogenesis and pathology of CuTS remain to be fully elucidated. The aim of the present study was to compare the expression pattern of microRNAs (miRNAs) in pachyntic Osborne's ligament with that in control tendinous tissue, and select meaningful miRNAs for further investigation of the clinical pathological mechanism underlying CuTS. A microarray assay was performed to examine the expression profiles of miRNAs in the Osborne's ligament and control tendinous tissues. An online bioinformatics algorithms tool (miRWalk) was used to predict putative target genes for the deregulated miRNAs, and functional annotation was performed by Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis. Finally, the results of microarray were partially validated using reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis. The expression of total of 60 miRNAs were found to be significantly different between the pachyntic Osborne's ligament and control tendinous tissues. MiRWalk2.0 predicted 1,804 target genes for these miRNAs, and the GO functional analysis of the predicted genes suggested cellular mechanisms, including metabolic process, regulation of cell growth, cell cycle processes, cell division regulation, cellular metabolic process and signal transmission, were involved. Furthermore, KEGG pathway analysis revealed important pathways, including adherent junction, focal adhesion, lysine degradation, cell adhesion molecules and mitogen‑activated protein kinase. Compared with the heathy tissue, Osborne's ligament tissue from patients with CuTS showed a markedly different miRNA expression profile, which suggested that miRNAs may be involved in the pathogenesis of CuTS.

Abstract
Objective To compare the activity, efficacy and toxicity of docetaxel versus docetaxel plus cisplatin in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer. Methods A literature search was performed in the EMBASE, Medline, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Internet, Wan-fang databases. The trials that were found were then evaluated for eligibility. The Cochrane Collaboration's Review Manager software was used to perform the meta-analyses. Results Nine clinical trials including 1257 patients were included. The docetaxel plus cisplatin regimens had higher overall response rates compared with the docetaxel regimen (RR = 0.70; 95% CI, 0.61 to 0.80; P < 0.00001). No statistically significant difference was observed between the two regimens with respect to the one-year survival rate (RR = 1.04; 95% CI, 0.90 to 1.19; P = 0.62). Patients treated with the DP regimen were more likely to experience anemia, thrombocytopenia, nausea/vomiting, nephrotoxicity, hyponatremia, mucositis and treatment-related deaths compared with patients treated with docetaxel alone. No significant difference was observed between the two regimens with respect to the occurrence of neurotoxicity, diarrhea, fatigue, pneumonitis, neutropenia and leucopenia. Conclusions The docetaxel plus cisplatin combination regimen resulted in a high response rate and a high adverse effect rate compared with docetaxel monochemotherapy for non-small-cell lung cancer.

Abstract
Based on the one-dimensional tight-binding Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model, and using the molecular dynamics method, we discuss the dynamics of electron and hole polarons propagating along a polymer chain, as a function of the distance between side radicals and the magnitude of the transfer integrals between the main chain and the side radicals. We first discuss the average velocities of electron and hole polarons as a function of the distance between side radicals. It is found that the average velocities of the electron polarons remain almost unchanged, while the average velocities of hole polarons decrease significantly when the radical distance is comparable to the polaron width. Second, we have found that the average velocities of electron polarons decrease with increasing transfer integral, but the average velocities of hole polarons increase. These results may provide a theoretical basis for understanding carriers transport properties in polymers chain with side radicals.

Abstract
Background Olecranon fracture (OF) is a common upper limb fracture, and the most commonly used techniques are still tension band wiring (TBW) and plate fixation (PF). The aim of the current study is to discuss whether TBW or PF technique of internal fixation is better in the treatment of OFs, using the method of meta-analysis. Methods The eligible studies were acquired from PubMed, CNKI, Embase, Cochrane Library, and other sources. The data were extracted by two of the coauthors independently and were analyzed by RevMan5.3. Standardized mean differences (SMDs), odds ratios (ORs), and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. Cochrane Collaboration’s Risk of Bias Tool and Newcastle–Ottawa Scale were used to assess risk of bias. Results Thirteen studies including 1 RCT and 12 observational studies were assessed. Our meta-analysis results showed that both in RCT and observational studies, there were no significant differences between the two groups in disabilities of the arm, shoulder and hand (DASH) (SMD = 0.07, 95% CI = −0.32 to 0.46, p = 0.73), improvement rate (OR = 0.76, 95% CI = 0.48–1.22, p = 0.26), range of motion (ROM), operation time (SMD = −0.51, 95% CI = −1.17 to 0.14, p = 0.12) and blood loss (SMD = −0.97, 95% CI = −2.06 to 0.11, p = 0.08). The overall estimate of complications indicated that the pooled OR was 2.61 (95% CI = 1.65–4.14, p < 0.0001), suggesting that the difference was statistically significant. We also compared the outcomes of patients with mayo type IIA OFs treated by TBW and PF in DASH and ROM and found no differences. Conclusions Both TBW and PF interventions had treatment benefit in OFs. The current study reveals that there are no significant differences in DASH, improvement rate, ROM, operation time, and blood loss between TBW and PF for OFs. Due to the less complications, we recommend the PF approach as the optical choice for OFs. More high-quality studies are required to further confirm our results.

Abstract
Hirschsprung’s disease (HD) is an intestinal malformation caused by the innate absence of ganglion cells in the neural plexus of the colorectal wall, and is most common in male infants. It is rare in adult, and is usually left-sided. Herein we reported based on the CARE guidelines a case of a 47-year-old adult female suffering from “right-sided” HD complicated by refractory hypertension and cough. The patient with a history of cesarean section and with digestive unfitness (abdominal pain, distention, and constipation) only since 20 years old had recurrence of HD after initial surgery due to the incomplete removal of the HD-affected bowel based on a diagnosis of “chronic ileus”, leading to the relapse of the digestive symptoms and the emergence of some intractable circulatory and respiratory complications which could be hardly controlled by conservative treatment. During the long interval before coming to our department for help, she had been re-hospitalized for several times with various misdiagnoses and supplied merely with symptomatic treatment which could only achieve temporary symptomatic relief. At her admission to our department, the imaging examinations strongly indicated recurrent HD which was further supported by pathological examinations, and right hemi-colectomy was performed to remove the remnant aganglionic intestinal segment. Intraoperative and postoperative pathology supported the completeness of the definitive resection. Post-operation, the patient’s bowel motility significantly improved, and interestingly, the complications disappeared. For adult patients with long-term constipation combined with cough and hypertension, rare diseases like HD which requires definite surgery and which could be “right-sided” should not be overlooked. It is vital to diagnose and cure HD patients in childhood. Through the comparison of the two surgeries, it is noteworthy that for diagnosed HD, sufficient removal of the non-functional intestine confirmed by intraoperative pathology is essential.

Abstract
Background Adenocarcinoma of esophagogastric junction (AEG) was initially proposed in 1999 by Siewert. During recent decades, the incidence and prevalence of AEG were arising globally whereas the incidence of gastric cancer is gradually declining. Complete blood counting and liver function tests, as the routine examination of immune and nutritional status, were reported to be the predictors of overall survival (OS) in some tumors. However, little is known about the prognostic significance of these indexes in AEG patients. The purpose of this study was to assess the prediction of preoperative pre-albumin, hemoglobin, and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) for survival outcomes in AEG patients. Methods A retrospective cohort of 101 AEG patients followed by radical surgery was recruited between January and July 2010. Clinical and laboratory data were obtained and used to evaluate the predictive value through survival analysis. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis determined 200 mg/L, 120 g/L, 5 cm, and 51 as the cutoff values of pre-albumin, hemoglobin, tumor size, and PNI, respectively. Results Univariate analysis revealed that AEG patients with hemoglobin ≥120 g/L, albumin ≥40 g/L, pre-albumin ≥200 g/L, PNI ≥51, and tumor size <5 cm had longer OS (P < 0.05). Additionally, pre-albumin, tumor size, and TNM stage were demonstrated to be independent prognostic indicators by multivariate analysis with Cox regression, and the performance of pre-albumin for predicting OS in AEG patients was further identified by ROC curves (P = 0.006). Conclusions Preoperative pre-albumin was an independent prognostic factor, and a high level of pre-albumin predicted longer OS in AEG patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common peripheral nerve entrapment disease. Either surgical or conservative intervention for CTS patients is needed to choose. We conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the clinical efficacy, safety, and cost of surgical versus nonsurgical intervention. METHODS The eligible studies were acquired from PubMed, Medline, Embase, Web of Science, Google, and Cochrane Library. The data were extracted by 2 of the coauthors independently and were analyzed by RevMan5.3. Standardized mean differences (SMDs), odds ratios (ORs), and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. Cochrane Collaboration Risk of Bias Tool and Newcastle-Ottawa Scale were used to assess risk of bias. RESULTS Thirteen studies including 9 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and 4 observational studies were assessed. The methodological quality of the trials ranged from moderate to high. The difference of clinical efficacy was statistically significant between surgical and nonsurgical intervention, and nonsurgical treatment was more effective (OR = 2.35, 95%CI = 1.18-4.67, P = 0.01). Meanwhile, different results were discovered by subgroup analysis. The pooled results of function improvement, symptom improvement, neurophysiological parameters improvement, and cost of care at different follow-up times showed that the differences were not statistically significant between the 2 interventions. The difference of complications and side-effects was statistically significant and conservative treatment achieved better result than surgery (OR = 2.03, 95%CI = 1.28-3.22, P = 0.003). Sensitivity analysis proved the stability of the pooled results. CONCLUSION Both surgical and conservative interventions had benefits in CTS. Nonsurgical treatment was more effective and safety than surgical treatment, but there were no significant differences in function improvement, symptom improvement, neurophysiological parameters improvement, and cost of care. Nonsurgical treatment is recommended as the optical choice for CTS. If conservative treatment fails, surgical release can be taken.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the clinical efficacy and safety between open and endoscopic in situ decompression surgery methods for cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS). METHODS PubMed, Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library and CNKI were searched for eligible studies. The data were extracted by two of the coauthors (WL, BYF) independently and were analyzed using RevMan statistical software, version 5.1. Relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. Cochrane Collaboration's Risk of Bias Tool and the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale were used to assess the risk of bias. RESULTS Seven studies were included for systematic review, and six studies were included for meta-analysis. The CuTS patients received open in situ decompression (OISD) or endoscopic in situ decompression (EISD). A pooled analysis of postoperative Bishop score showed that the difference was not statistically significant between the EISD group and the OISD group (RR = 0.99, 95% CI = 0.88-1.12, P = 0.88). The overall estimate of postoperative satisfaction between the EISD group and the OISD group was not found to be significant (RR = 0.98, 95% CI = 0.89-1.08, P = 0.70). The overall estimate of complications (RR = 0.88, 95% CI = 0.24-3.29, P = 0.85) suggested that the difference was not statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS EISD and OISD for treating CuTS have equivalent efficacy for postoperative clinical improvement, whereas the incidences of complications of endoscopic surgical procedure were also same as those with the open surgical procedure. In situ decompression (especially EISD, with minor intraoperative trauma) could be treated as a valuable alternative to treat CuTS.

Abstract
AIM To assess the value of transabdominal ultrasound (TUS) in the preoperative assessment of adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction (AEG).
METHODS A total of 65 patients who underwent TUS and computed tomography (CT) preoperatively and were pathologically diagnosed with AEG after surgery from December 2014 to May 2016 were included in this study. The TUS or CT results were compared with pathological findings.
RESULTS With regard to Siewert's classification, the diagnostic accuracy of TUS in AEG was 90.8% (85.7% for type Ⅰ and 92.2% for non-type Ⅰ). The accuracy of TUS and CT in T-staging of AEG was 33.8% and 63.1%, respectively, and there was a significant difference between the two diagnostic modalities (P < 0.05), although there was no significant difference in accuracy of N-staging and M-staging between CT and TUS (P > 0.05). For those who were preoperatively diagnosed with poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma, there was no significant difference in the accuracy of T-staging of AEG between TUS and CT (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSION TUS is an available tool for the typing of AEG, which is useful for deciding surgical approaches. TUS has high value in preoperative N- and M-staging, and for patients who are preoperatively diagnosed with poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma, both TUS and CT can be used in preoperative TNM-staging.

Abstract
Pathological scars, such as keloids and hypertrophic scars, readily cause physical and psychological problems. Combination 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) with triamcinolone acetonide (TAC) is presumed to enhance the treatment of pathological scars, although supportive evidence is lacking. We aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of TAC alone and in combination with 5-FU for the treatment of hypertrophic scars and keloids. Five databases (PubMed, Medline, Cochrane databases, Embase and CNKI) were searched with the limitations of human subjects and English-language text. Mean differences (MDs), odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. The Cochrane Collaboration's Risk of Bias Tool was used to assess the risk of bias. The control group received intralesional TAC alone, and the experimental group received TAC combined with 5-FU injection. A pooled analysis of the effectiveness based on patient self-assessment after treatment showed that the experimental group achieved better results than the control group (OR = 2·92, 95% CI = 1·63-5·22, P = 0·0003). Similarly, a pooled analysis of the effectiveness based on observer assessment following treatment produced the same conclusion (OR = 4·03, 95% CI = 1·40-11·61, P = 0·010). A meta-analysis of scar height after treatment showed that the experimental group performed better than the control group (MD = -0·14, 95% CI = -0·23-0·05, P = 0·002). The erythema score of the experimental group after treatment was superior (MD = -0·20, 95% CI = -0·34-0·06, P = 0·004). The heterogeneity test showed no heterogeneity among the studies (P > 0·1, I2 = 0%). TAC combined with 5-FU is more suitable for the treatment and prevention of hypertrophic scars and keloids, with greater improvement in scar height and patient satisfaction as well as fewer side effects.

Abstract
Spinal cord injury (SCI) may result in skeletal muscle atrophy. Identifying diagnostic biomarkers and effective targets for treatment is an important challenge in clinical work. The aim of the present study is to elucidate potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for SCI‑induced muscle atrophy (SIMA) using proteomic and bioinformatic analyses. The protein samples from rat soleus muscle were collected at different time points following SCI injury and separated by two‑dimensional gel electrophoresis and compared with the sham group. The identities of these protein spots were analyzed by mass spectrometry (MS). MS demonstrated that 20 proteins associated with muscle atrophy were differentially expressed. Bioinformatic analyses indicated that SIMA changed the expression of proteins associated with cellular, developmental, immune system and metabolic processes, biological adhesion and localization. The results of the present study may be beneficial in understanding the molecular mechanisms of SIMA and elucidating potential biomarkers and targets for the treatment of muscle atrophy.

Abstract
To determine whether the administration of moxibustion is an effective treatment for knee osteoarthritis (KOA).We conducted a search of relevant articles using Medline, EMBASE, the Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library published before October 2015. The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities' Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC scale) and the short form 36 questionnaire (SF-36 scale) were assessed. Evidence grading was evaluated according to the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation system.Four studies containing 746 participants fulfilled the inclusion criteria in the final analysis. In terms of quality of life (QOL), the meta-analysis of 2 randomized clinical trials (RCTs) showed significantly effects of moxibustion only in bodily pain (BP) compared with those in the control group (n = 348; weighted mean difference [WMD], 4.36; 95% confidence intervals [CIs], 2.27-6.44; P < 0.0001; heterogeneity: χ = 1.53, P = 0.22, I = 34%) in all of the subcategories of the SF-36 scale, with moderate quality. The meta-analysis of the 2 included trials showed that there was not a statistically significant difference in the pain or function subscale for the WOMAC scale when the 2 groups were compared (n = 322; WMD, 17.63; 95% CI, -23.15-58.41; P = 0.40; heterogeneity: χ = 19.42, P < 0.0001, I = 95%), with low or moderate quality separately.The administration of moxibustion can to some extent alleviate the symptoms of KOA. More rigorous, randomized controlled trials are required in the future.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To determine whether amlodipine/valsartan/hydrochlorothiazide single pill combination (SPC) is associated with improved persistence, adherence and reduced healthcare utilization and costs compared to the corresponding free combination (FC). METHODS Adult (≥18 years) patients covered by commercial and Medicare Supplemental insurance in the Truven MarketScan database with hypertension (HTN) diagnosis between October 2009 and December 2011 were included. At least two filled prescriptions for the SPC cohort or two periods of minimum 15 days of concurrent use of amlodipine, valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) for the FC cohort were required. Cohorts were propensity score matched (PSM) to balance on important confounders. Outcomes included: 1) adherence (proportion of days covered [PDC] and medication possession ratio [MPR]); 2) persistence (treatment gap >30 days); 3) all-cause and HTN-specific healthcare utilization and costs at 12 months. RESULTS After cohort matching with PSM, patients taking SPC (N = 9221) exhibited better outcomes than FC (N = 1884): higher mean adherence (85.7% vs. 77.0%), mean PDC (73.8% vs. 60.6%) and persistence (46.8% vs. 23.6%) (all p < 0.0001). Patients taking SPC were associated with higher odds of persistence (OR: 3.51; 95% CI: 3.08-4.02), MPR ≥80% (OR: 2.72; 95% CI: 2.40-3.08) and PDC ≥80% (OR: 2.88; 95% CI: 2.55-3.26). After PSM, the SPC cohort exhibited statistically significantly lower mean number of resource utilization events compared to FC. Patients in the SPC cohort also had a statistically significantly (p < 0.05) lower percentage of patients with ≥1 all-cause hospitalization (15.0% vs. 18.2%), ≥1 all-cause emergency room (ER) visits (25.7 vs. 31.4%), and ≥1 ER HTN-specific visits (9.7% vs. 14.1%). The costs incurred by SPC cohort patients were 2.8% to 41.7% numerically lower than the FC cohort, statistically significant for all-cause ER costs ($430.6 vs. $549.5, p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Real-world data indicate an association of the amlodipine/valsartan/HCT SPC with improved adherence and persistence vs. FC with no difference in overall healthcare or hypertension specific costs between the cohorts.

Abstract
Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) can multiply effectively in chick embryo kidney (CEK) cells after adapting to the chick embryo. To investigate the dynamic changes in IBV load in the supernatant of primary CEK cells, we developed an SYBR Green I-based real-time polymerase chain reaction assay to quantify nucleic copy numbers of the IBV-Sczy3 strain. The 20, 54, and 87th generations of CEK-adapted IBV-Sczy3 strains were used to infect CEK cells, and then nucleic copy numbers in the samples of supernatant collected at 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, and 72 h were detected. The results showed that the rapid growth period of the virus load of all the 3 generations was approximately 12-36 h post-infection; the peak of the virus load appeared at 36 h post-infection and then decreased gradually in the order of 20th > 54th > 87th for the 3 generations of CEK-adapted strains; the dynamic change curve of the IBV load in the supernatant of primary CEK cells showed a single peak. The results of this study provide a useful reference for CEK-adapted IBV field strains and the production of CEK-attenuated IBV vaccine.

Abstract
Studies investigating the association between genetic polymorphism of aldehyde dehydrogenases-2 (ALDH-2) Glu487Lys and colorectal cancer (CRC) risk have reported conflicting results. Given this uncertainty, we carried out a critical analysis of published case-control studies to derive a more precise estimation of this relationship. Published literature from PubMed, EMBASE and China Knowledge Resource Integrated Database were retrieved, and the literature search was updated in June 2014. Eleven studies comprising 6965 subjects were selected (2300 cases and 4665 controls). Overall, our study showed no statistical significance for CRC risk associated with any of the genetic models of ALDH-2 Glu487Lys polymorphism. When studies were stratified for control source, a decreased risk of CRC for participants with Lys/Lys was observed in population based case-control studies [Lys/Lys vs. (Glu/Lys + Glu/Glu): odds ratio (OR) = 0.57, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.38-0.87]. Furthermore, we also confirmed the significant correlation between Glu487Lys polymorphism and the influence on the risk of rectal cancer in males [Glu/Glu vs. (Glu/Lys + Lys/Lys): OR = 1.52, 95%CI = 1.10-2.08]. The combined effects of the two gene polymorphisms [ALDH-2 and alcohol dehydrogenase 1B (ADH-1B)] were also studied. Compared with subjects having ALDH-2 Lys+ with ADH-1B His/His, ORs and 95%CIs for those with ALDH-2 Glu/Glu and ADH-1B His/His was 3.42(0.57-20.38). Similar trends were observed for the other two types of comparisons. Our study supports that ALDH-2 Glu487Lys polymorphism is associated with significant reduced risks of CRC in population-based samples, and of rectal cancer in males.

Abstract
Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common and deadly malignancies nowadays, and inflammatory cells are closely related to tumor progression. This prospective study aims to uncover clinical significance of peripheral immune cells and build a treatment-predictive model. From July 2006 to July 2011, a total of 1131 GC patients were selected, with their general characteristics, peripheral blood and pathological parameters, and operational information obtained. The relevancies between preoperational neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and postsurgical pathological indexes were analyzed. SPSS 17.0 was applied in data analysis, comparing the differences of NLR between different groups using Mann-Whitney U test, contrasting the pathological differences between NLR elevated and reduced groups using Fisher test, and quantifying the correlation between post-surgical pathology and pre-operational NLR using univariate analysis. Patients were then classified into radical (applied in the training dataset) and non-radical gastrectomy (applied in the test dataset) groups, based on which we further tried to build a predictive model indicating appropriateness for radical resection using support vector machine (SVM). We found that: patients with tumor invading out of the myometrium (pT3-4) had significantly larger NLR than those with lesion limited within the myometrium (pT1-2) (P<0.05); poorly differentiated and undifferentiated malignancies were associated with higher NLR than well and moderately differentiated ones (P<0.05); there was larger NLR among patients with tumor length ≥4 cm than those <4 cm (P<0.01); preoperative NLR was significantly positively correlated with tumor TNM classification, number of metastatic lymph nodes, invasive depth and tumor size (P<0.05); larger proportion of elevated NLR was significantly associated with larger tumor size, later tumor and nodal stages, and higher TNM classification (P<0.01). We finally built a SVM model based on peripheral carcinoembryonic antigen, carbohydrate antigen 19-9, lymphocyte percentage and platelet count, effectively predicting the inappropriateness of patients undergoing curative gastrectomy when all the 4 parameters elevated with high accuracy (74.61% for the training dataset and 75.28% for the test dataset). We concluded that peripheral blood NLR indicated tumor progression, and that an efficient treatment-predictive SVM model was constructed.

BACKGROUND The effect of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) on Gastric carcinoma (GC) has been extensively studied, while its survival and surgical benefits remain controversial. This study aims to perform a meta-analysis of high-quality randomized controlled trials (RCTs), comparing efficacy, safety and other outcomes of NAC followed by surgery with surgery alone (SA) for GC. METHODS We systematically searched databases of MEDLINE, EMBASE, The Cochrane Library and Springer for RCTs comparing NAC with SA when treating GC. Reference lists of relevant articles and reviews, conference proceedings and ongoing trial databases were also searched. Primary outcomes were 3-year and 5-year survival rates, survival time, and total and perioperative mortalities. Secondary outcomes included down-staging effects, R0 resection rate, and postoperative complications. Meta-analysis was conducted where possible comparing items using relative risks (RRs) and weighted mean differences (WMDs) according to type of data. NAC-related objective response, safety and toxicity were also specifically analyzed. RESULTS A total of 9 RCTs comparing NAC (n = 511) with SA (n = 545) published from 1995 to 2010 were identified. SA tended to be accompanied with higher overall mortality rate than NAC (46.03% vs 40.61%, RR: 0.83, 95% CI: 0.65-1.06, P = 0.14). Significantly, higher incidence of cases without regional lymph node metastasis observed upon resection were achieved among patients receiving NAC than those undergoing SA (25.68% vs 16.95%, RR: 1.92, 95% CI: 1.20-3.06, P = 0.006). All other parameters were comparable. Of the evaluable patients, 43.0% demonstrated either complete or partial response. The comprehensive NAC-related side-effect rate was 18.2% among patients available for safety assessment. CONCLUSIONS NAC contributes to lowering nodal stages, and potentially reduces overall mortality. Response rate may be an important influential factor impacting advantages, with chemotherapy-related adverse effects as a drawback. This level 1a evidence doesn't support NAC to outweigh SA in terms of survival and surgical benefits when dealing with GC.

Abstract
Gastric carcinoma is one of the most common and deadly malignancies nowadays, and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) in gastric juice has been rarely studied. To compare peri-distal gastrectomy (DG) gastric juice and serum CA 19-9 and reveal its significance, we selected 67 patients diagnosed with gastric carcinoma who underwent DG, and collected their perioperative gastric juice whose CA 19-9 was detected, with serum CA 19-9 monitored as a comparison. We found that: gastric juice CA 19-9 pre-gastrectomy was significantly correlated with tumor TNM classification, regarding tumor size, level of gastric wall invaded, differentiated grade and number of metastatic lymph nodes as influencing factors, while serum CA 19-9 revealed little information; gastric juice CA 19-9 was significantly correlated with radical degree, and regarded number of resected lymph nodes and classification of cutting edge as impact factors; thirteen patients whose gastric juice CA 19-9 rose post-DG showed features indicating poor prognosis; the difference of gastric juice CA 19-9 between pre- and post-gastrectomy was correlated with tumor TNM classification and radical degree, and regarded tumor size, number of resected metastatic and normal lymph nodes, sum of distances from tumor to cutting edges and classification of cutting edge as influential factors. We conclude that peri-DG gastric juice CA 19-9 reveals much information about tumor and radical gastrectomy, and may indicate prognosis; while serum CA 19-9 has limited significance.

Abstract
The rates of radial oxygen loss (ROL), root porosity, concentrations of arsenic (As), iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) in shoot and root tissues and on root surfaces, As tolerances, and their relationships in different wetland plants were investigated based on a hydroponic experiment (control, 0.8, 1.6 mg As L(-1)) and a soil pot trail (control, 60 mg As kg(-1)). The results revealed that wetland plants showed great differences in root porosity (9-64%), rates of ROL (55-1750 mmo1 O2 kg(-1) root d.w.d(-1)), As uptake (e.g., 8.8-151 mg kg(-1) in shoots in 0.8 mg As L(-1) treatment), translocation factor (2.1-47% in 0.8 mg As L(-1)) and tolerance (29-106% in 0.8 mg As L(-1)). Wetland plants with higher rates of ROL and root porosity tended to form more Fe/Mn plaque, possess higher As tolerance, higher concentrations of As on root surfaces and a lower As translocation factor so decreasing As toxicity.

Abstract
The influence of salicylic acid on the production of taxanes in plant cell culture was studied. Experimental results showed that addition of salicylic acid at concentration of 0.1 mg/L could enhance the production of taxol to three-fold. The concentration of 10-DAB and baccatin III was also increasing while taxol concentration increases under salicylic acid elicitation. On the basis of the kinetic analysis about the simplified taxol biosynthesis pathway, a probable reason that salicylic acid improves the rate of 10-DAB producing reaction was introduced. The results above can direct its inducing mechanic research and provide the basis of multiple-elicitors synergism. The concentration of taxol arrives at 39 mg.L-1 induced by salicylic acid with silver nitrate, being 150 percent of the sum of taxol obtained under elicitation of salicylic acid and silver nitrate respectively.

Abstract
The discovery of the reversible antifertility action of an extract from Tripterygium wilfordii both in male rats and in men in 1986 stimulated worldwide interest. International and national collaborations aimed at the bioassay-directed sub-fractionation of materials extracted from the plant was then organized and to date, a series of six male antifertility diterpene epoxides have been isolated. Their chemical structures have been identified and found to be triptolide, tripdiolide, triptolidenol, tripchlorolide, 16-hydroxytriptolide and T7/19 (structure not yet published). At the ED95 dosage levels, they act mainly on metamorphosing spermatids and testicular and epdidymal spermatozoa with exfoliation and inhibition of basic nuclear protein turnover of late spermatids, delayed spermiation and sperm head-tail separation and microtubule, microfilament and membrane damages. A preliminary toxic evaluation indicated that these compounds were immunosuppressive at dose levels 5-12 times their antifertility doses. Immuno-suppression is an important weakness for an antifertility agent, but if the immuno-suppressive dose of a drug is much higher than its antifertility dose, it could yet be regarded as a safe contraceptive. Therefore, in the safety evaluation of compounds isolated from Tripterygium wilfordii, it warrants our attention to probe deeply into their precise dose/immuno-effect relationship.
