Abstract
Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is an emerging technology for real-time monitoring based on the impedance differences of different tissues and organs in the human body. It has been initially applied in clinical research as well as disease diagnosis and treatment. Lung perfusion refers to the blood flow perfusion function of lung tissue, and the occurrence and development of many diseases are closely related to lung perfusion. Therefore, real-time monitoring of lung perfusion is particularly important. The application and development of EIT further promote the monitoring of lung perfusion, and related research has made great progress. This article reviews the principles of EIT imaging, lung perfusion imaging methods, and their clinical applications in recent years, with the aim of providing assistance to clinical and scientific researchers.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is a cause of significant morbidity and mortality in high-risk individuals. Total body photography (TBP) is currently used to monitor melanocytic lesions in patients with high risk for melanoma. The authors examined if three-dimensional (3D)-TBP could be useful for diagnosis of NMSC. METHODS Patients (n = 129; 52 female, 77 male) with lesions suspicious for NMSC who had not yet had a biopsy underwent clinical examination followed by examination of each lesion with 3D-TBP Vectra®WB360 (Canfield Scientific, Parsippany, NJ, USA) and dermoscopy. RESULTS The 129 patients had a total of 182 lesions. Histological examination was performed for 158 lesions; the diagnoses included basal cell carcinoma (BCC; n = 107), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC; n = 27), in-situ SCC (n = 15). Lesions were located in the head/neck region (n = 138), trunk (n = 21), and limbs (n = 23). Of the 182 lesions examined, 12 were not visible on 3D-TBP; reasons for not being visible included location under hair and on septal of nose. Two lesions appeared only as erythema in 3D-TBP but were clearly identifiable on conventional photographs. Sensitivity of 3D-TBP was lower than that of dermoscopy for BCC (73% vs. 79%, p = 0.327), higher for SCC (81% vs. 74%, p = 0.727), and lower for in-situ SCC (0% vs. 33%, p = 125). Specificity of 3D-TBP was lower than that of dermoscopy for BCC (77% vs. 82%, 0.581), lower for SCC (75% vs. 84%, p = 0.063), and higher for in-situ SCC (97% vs. 94%, p = 0.344). Diagnostic accuracy of 3D-TBP was lower than that of dermoscopy for BCC (75% vs. 80%), lower for SCC (76% vs. 82%), and lower for in-situ SCC (88% vs. 89%). Lesion location was not associated with diagnostic confidence in dermoscopy (p = 0.152) or 3D-TBP (p = 0.353). If only lesions with high confidence were included in the calculation, diagnostic accuracy increased for BCC (n = 27; sensitivity 85%, specificity 85%, diagnostic accuracy 85%), SCC (n = 10; sensitivity 90%, specificity 80%, diagnostic accuracy 83%), and for in-situ SCC (n = 2; sensitivity 0%, specificity 100%, diagnostic accuracy 95%). CONCLUSION Diagnostic accuracy appears to be slightly lower for 3D-TBP in comparison to dermoscopy. However, there is no statistically significant difference in the sensitivity and specificity of 3D-TBP and dermoscopy for NMSC. Diagnostic accuracy increases, if only lesions with high confidence are included in the calculation. Further studies are necessary to determine if 3D-TBP can improve management of NMSC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Body composition changes in patients with Crohn's disease (CD) have received increasing attention in recent years. This review aims to describe the changes in body composition in patients with CD on imaging and to analyze and summarize the prognostic value of body composition. METHODS We systematically searched Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Medline via OVID for literature published before November 2022, and two researchers independently evaluated the quality of the retrieved literature. RESULTS A total of 39 publications (32 cohort studies and 7 cross-sectional studies) involving 4219 patients with CD were retrieved. Imaging methods for body composition assessment, including dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), were included in this review. The study found that patients with CD typically have more visceral adipose tissue and less skeletal muscle mass, and the prevalence of sarcopenia and visceral obesity was significantly different in different studies (sarcopenia: 16-100%; visceral obesity: 5.3-30.5%). Available studies suggest that changes in the body composition of CD patients are significantly related to inflammatory status, disease behavior, poor outcomes, and drug efficacy. CONCLUSION Altered body composition can be a significant predictor of poor outcomes for CD patients. Therefore, the body composition of CD patients may serve as a potential therapeutic target to help optimize disease management strategies in clinical practice.

Abstract
Imaging flow cytometry (IFC), a technique originally designed for cellular imaging, is featured by the parallel acquisition in brightfield (BF), fluorescence (FL), and side scattering channels. Introduced to the field of subvisible particle analysis in biopharmaceuticals roughly ten years ago, it has the potential to yield additional information, e.g., on particle origin. Here, we present an extensive, systematic development of masks for IFC image analysis to optimize the accuracy of size determination of polystyrene beads and pharmaceutically relevant particles (protein, silicone oil) in BF and FL channels. Based on the developed masks, particle sizing and counting by IFC are compared to flow imaging microscopy (FIM). Mask verification based on fluorescent polystyrene particles revealed good agreement between sizes obtained from IFC and FIM. In the evaluation of counting accuracy, IFC reported lower concentrations for polystyrene particle standards than FIM. For the analysis of fluorescently stained silicone oil and protein particles however, IFC FL imaging reported higher particle concentrations in the low micrometer size range. Overall, we identified IFC as suitable tool to generate supportive data for particle characterization purposes or trouble shooting activities, but not as routine quantitative technique, e.g., for subvisible particle analysis during drug product development or quality control.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Examination of subungual pigmented lesions is sometimes a diagnostic challenge for clinicians. OBJECTIVES The study was aimed to investigate characteristic patterns in optical coherence tomography (OCT) of subungual hematomas and determine distinctive features that can differentiate them from subungual melanocytic lesions. METHODS VivoSight® (Michelson Diagnostics, Maidstone, UK) was used to examine 71 subungual hematomas and 11 subungual melanocytic lesions in 69 patients (18 female and 51 male patients). RESULTS On OCT, bleeding was related to sharply defined black sickle-shaped (p < 0.001) or globular regions (not significant [ns]) with a hyperreflective margin (0.002), a grey center (0.013), hyperreflective lines in the area (ns) or periphery (p = 0.031), peripheral fading (p = 0.029), and red dots in the area (p = 0.001). In the 1 case of melanoma in situ examined, we found curved vessels with irregular sizes and distribution on the dermis of the nailbed, while subungual hematomas and subungual benign nevi presented as clustered red dots and/or regularly distributed curved vessels. CONCLUSION Our findings indicate that the use of OCT in addition to dermoscopy provides high-resolution optical imaging information for the diagnosis of subungual hematoma and facilitates the differential diagnosis of subungual hematomas and subungual melanocytic lesions.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare the findings from digital 7-field color fundus (CF) photography and fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) in young patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) type 1 without known diabetic retinopathy. METHODS In this prospective, observational cohort study, 54 type 1 diabetic patients were recruited. Participants had been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus (DM) for at least 6 years, had Best Corrected Visual Acuity of 20/25 or better and did not have any known retinal pathology. One hundred and seven eyes were analyzed. All patients underwent a complete ophthalmic examination in the Retina Service of a University Eye Clinic including digital CF imaging and FFA. RESULTS The mean age of the patients was 18.6 years. Mean duration of DM was 11.3 years, and mean haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) level was 8.6%. Of the 107 eyes, 8 eyes (7.5%) showed microvascular abnormalities on CF images, while FFA images revealed changes in 26 eyes (24.3%). Hence, 18 of the 26 eyes showing abnormalities on FFA did not show any abnormalities on CF images. Mean DM duration in the patient group with detectable microvascular changes was found to be significantly higher compared to patients without changes, while no difference in HbA1c levels, serum lipid levels or blood pressure was observed. CONCLUSIONS Comparison of digital CF and FFA findings for the detection of diabetic microvascular changes in type 1 diabetic patients showed that FFA reveals more information about retinal vascular pathology for early detection of diabetic retinopathy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The clinical autopsy is the ultimate medical service for a patient and plays a crucial role in the education of physicians and other medical personnel, as well as in the context of quality control. Nevertheless, the number of autopsies is constantly decreasing. Numerous factors, such as the personal attitude of relatives and also clarification of relatives, as well as the increasing application of imaging methods while the patient is still alive, play a central role in this decline. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to demonstrate the development of autopsy services over the past decade in two university hospitals in Germany and therefore to underline the importance of this investigation procedure in pathology. MATERIAL AND METHODS Autopsy reports between the years 2005 and 2014 from 2 university institutes of pathology were analyzed regarding a diverse dataset, including age and sex of the deceased as well as the clinical and pathological causes of death. RESULTS The data showed that the number of autopsies has continuously decreased over the past decade; however, the distribution of characteristics of the deceased remained relatively stable. In this cohort the clinically assumed cause of death differed from the pathological cause of death in 6% of the autopsies. Frequently occurring discrepant diagnoses were cardiac tamponade, aortic dissection and endocarditis/myocarditis. DISCUSSION Our results show that, despite significant improvements in imaging methods, findings do not yield more accurate results than does autopsy. This underscores once again the need to encourage the performance of this final medical act on patients.

Abstract
Conventional optical coherence tomography (OCT) enables the visualization of morphological changes of skin cancer. The use of OCT in the diagnostic investigation and in the therapy decision of non-melanoma skin cancer and other skin changes is already established, and has found its way into routine practice. With the development of speckle-variance OCT, also named dynamic OCT (D-OCT), the vascular architecture and the blood flow of the skin can be displayed in vivo and in 3D. This novel angiographic variant of OCT offers the ability to visualize and measure vessel morphology providing a new insight into healthy, inflammatory and neoplastic skin lesions such as malignant melanoma. This review focuses on the possibilities of using D-OCT on healthy and diseased skin. We suggest and illustrate key diagnostic characteristics by analyzing the initial publications and preliminary unpublished data on vessel morphology and distribution. The potential of D-OCT as a diagnostic tool in dermatology is examined and may give rise to future studies on D-OCT, which are needed to confirm the aforementioned features.
