Abstract
BACKGROUND Healthcare consumers require diverse resources to assist their navigation of complex healthcare interactions, however, these resources need to be fit for purpose. AIM In this study, we evaluated the utility, usability and feasibility of children, families and adults requiring long-term intravenous therapy using a recently developed mobile health application (App), intravenous (IV) Passport. DESIGN Multi-site, parallel, multi-method, prospective cohort study. METHODS A multi-site, multi-method study was carried out in 2020-2021, with 46 participants (20 adults, 26 children/family) reporting on their experiences surrounding the use of the IV Passport for up to 6 months. RESULTS Overall, utility rates were acceptable, with 78.3% (N = 36) using the IV Passport over the follow-up period, with high rates of planned future use for those still active in the project (N = 21; 73%), especially in the child/family cohort (N = 13; 100%). Acceptability rates were high (9/10; IQR 6.5-10), with the IV Passport primarily used for documenting new devices and complications. Thematic analysis revealed three main themes (and multiple subthemes) in the qualitative data: Advocacy for healthcare needs, Complexity of healthcare and App design and functionality. CONCLUSION Several recommendations were made to improve the end-user experience including 'how to' instructions; and scheduling functionality for routine care. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE The IV Passport can be safely and appropriately integrated into healthcare, to support consumers. IMPACT Patient-/parent-reported feedback suggests the Intravenous Passport is a useful tool for record-keeping, and positive communication between patients/parents, and clinicians. REPORTING METHOD Not applicable. PATIENT CONTRIBUTION Consumers reported their experiences surrounding the use of the IV Passport for up to 6 months.

Abstract
This study examines user engagement and loyalty in mobile applications for restaurant home deliveries during the COVID-19 pandemic. It explores the concepts of loyalty, engagement, and interactivity, with convenience and safety as drivers for continued use. Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equations Modelling (PLS-SEM), data from 349 users of restaurant ordering apps in Colombia was analysed. Results indicate that engagement, convenience, and safety positively influence loyalty. Interactivity indirectly affects loyalty through engagement. This research sheds light on the factors impacting engagement and loyalty, specifically during the pandemic. It addresses underexplored marketing relationships and guides companies operating such apps to understand key drivers of user loyalty.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To review the available evidence on the use and effectiveness of mobile applications to assist nursing students in comprehending, utilising, and applying specialised language and knowledge terminologies when learning the language of biosciences. DESIGN A scoping review. DATA SOURCES The databases CINAHL Complete, ERIC, EMCare, MEDLINE, PubMed, the OVID scholarly interface and the web search engine Google Scholar were searched. REVIEW METHODS Peer-reviewed literature published in English during the period 2010-2023 was reviewed. Snowballing methods saw the reference lists of all included articles searched, and a secondary search of the Scopus ranked top ten nursing journals. Articles were included if they reported on any app or digital resource used when teaching undergraduate nursing students biosciences/science language skills, concepts, or terminology. Studies were excluded if the participants were non-nursing student cohorts or content did not meet the inclusion criteria. RESULTS Mobile applications generally contribute positively to nursing students' education. These applications are deemed valuable tools, offering structured content in easily digestible formats. Some applications also foster teamwork and collaboration during clinical placements, promoting peer learning, and a sense of community. User internet access and preparation for learning were the only noted barriers. A range of science-based concepts were taught using applications, including diabetes mellitus, medical terminology, asthma, and cardiac conditions. Despite the promise shown by using mobile applications to teach nurse sciences, few are dedicated to bioscience language and scientific terminology. Recognising the challenging nature of teaching these concepts, developing specialised applications could substantially improve the educational experience for nursing students. CONCLUSION Nurse educators are encouraged to teach with applications given their reported effectiveness in knowledge gains for students learning science concepts. Rigorous interventional study designs are warranted to extend suggestions that using applications enhances student understanding of challenging scientific concepts and support quality in clinical learning.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Mobile apps in the field of ORL-HNS, are widely used by patients and physicians, but neither necessarily developed in collaboration with healthcare professionals nor subjected to regulations by the United States Food and Drug Administration guidelines, with a resultant potential of risk for its users. OBJECTIVE To provide the ORL-HNS physician with an updated list of scientific peer review literature- validated mobile apps for safe use for both the clinician and the patients, for screening, diagnosis, therapy and follow up for various ORL-HNS pathologies. EVIDENCE REVIEW A comprehensive systematic review of the scientific literature was conducted in "PubMed," "EMBASE," and "Web of Science" without limitation of publication date up to January 1st, 2023. The included papers validated mobile apps in the ORL-HNS discipline. Each study was evaluated using the "Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology" (STROBE) tool. FINDINGS From the thousands of unregulated ORL-HNS mobile apps available for download and use in the various app stores, only 17 apps were validated for safe use by the clinician and/or patient. Their information is listed. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE The limited number of validated mobile apps highlights the importance to use validated apps in clinical practice, to improve evidence-based medicine and patient safety. Physician are encouraged to use and recommend their patients to use validated mobile apps only, like any other tool in clinical practice in the evidence-based era.

Abstract
Purpose A "Smart Cancer Care" platform that integrates patient-reported outcomes (PROs) with management has been established in Korea. This study focused on improving health behaviors and connecting patients to welfare services by introducing and assessing the feasibility of "Smart Cancer Care 2.0," an enhanced version designed for monitoring complications post-cancer treatment. Materials and Methods Smart Cancer Care 2.0 was developed by conducting a literature review and consulting with expert panels to identify symptoms or variables requiring monitoring and management guidelines based on the treatment type. Qualitative and quantitative surveys were conducted to assess the feasibility of the app and web system based on the experiences of patients with cancer and healthcare workers. Results A total of 81 symptoms or variables (chemotherapy-, surgery-, radiotherapy-, rehabilitation-, and health management-related) were selected for management in Smart Cancer Care 2.0. PROs for these symptoms were basically categorized into three severity grades: (1) preventive management, (2) self-treatment, and (3) consultation with a healthcare worker or visit to a healthcare institution. The overall mean scores in the feasibility evaluation by patients and healthcare workers were 3.83 and 3.90 points, respectively, indicating high usefulness. Conclusion Smart Cancer Care 2.0 leverages the existing ICT-based platform, Smart Cancer Care, and further includes health behaviors and welfare services. Smart Cancer Care 2.0 may play a crucial role in establishing a comprehensive post-discharge management system for patients with cancer as it provides suitable interventions based on patients' responses and allows the regularly collected PROs to be easily viewed for streamlined care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As the population ages, a plethora of digital and mobile health applications for assistance with independent living have emerged. Still unknown, however, is how older adults sustain the use of these applications. AIM This study sought to explore the experiences of older adults following their participation in a programme that combined the use of an mHealth application with proactive telecare nursing support. METHODS We employed a concurrent mixed-methods design for this study. The quantitative strand included a survey, whereas the qualitative strand included open-ended questions as part of the survey to understand the participants' experiences. Participants for this study were community-dwelling older adults who had taken part in an interventional study that sought to examine the effects of mHealth and nurse support. A convenience sampling approach was employed to recruit potential participants for this study. FINDINGS Fifty-five older adults participated. The majority expressed positive attitudes and satisfaction with the app and the nurses' support. The app and nurses' support helped participants to understand their health status and obtain health information. Reasons to halt app usage included technical issues and limited social support. CONCLUSION Mobile apps with professional follow-up support could potentially support older adults in the community, although emerging concerns need to be addressed to sustain long-term usage of these apps.

Abstract
Background: Children can learn efficiently with well-designed serious games. The use of applications to promote health has proliferated, but there is a lack of scientific studies on educational games in oral health. Materials and Methods: We developed the Brazilian version of a British and Jordanian oral health education game for children from the perspectives of Brazilian specialists and users. This descriptive study, with a qualitative and quantitative approach, comprised three phases: I-Experts' discussion of the appropriateness of the previous version of the game to Brazil; II-Development of the first Brazilian version of the game; and III-Evaluation of the first version with 15 children from 4 to 8 years of age. Results: In Phase I, the specialists agreed with the development of the Brazilian version of the game, with minor adjustments on: advice on eating; advice on oral hygiene habits, users' age group, game characters, and game purpose. Phase II: a version with a few changes in images and recommendations, written and spoken in Brazilian Portuguese. Phase III: The global average of correct answers in the game's tasks was 75.3%, ranging from 50.0% to 100%. Children reported having fun with the game, and most understood the content and its interface; their parents found the information relevant and enjoyed the gameplay with their children. Conclusions: The Oral Health Education Game offered basic information for preventing dental caries to Brazilian children aged 4-8 years old in an interactive and fun way; it could support professionals in improving oral health education.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Real-time tracking of menstrual bleeding is a barrier to research due to limitations with traditional data collection tools. This prospective cohort study utilized a mobile application (TDot app) in young adolescents aged 10-14 years to assess the relationship between heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB), dysmenorrhea, and activity limitation. METHODS Menstrual cycles were captured over six months in real-time using the Pictorial Blood loss Assessment Chart (PBAC). A median PBAC score of >100 was used to identify participants with HMB. Participants also completed a modified WaLIDD (Working ability, Location, Intensity, Days of pain, Dysmenorrhea) scale. Impact of menses on daily activities was collected for each cycle. RESULTS A total of 160 participants enrolled and 100 (63%) participants with ≥3 cycles recorded in the mobile app were analyzed. HMB was noted in 41% of participants. Median modified WaLIDD score was significantly higher in participants with HMB than those without HMB (p=0.01). No significant differences were found in activity limitations between participants with and without HMB (p=0.34). Median modified WaLIDD score for participants with activity limitation was significantly higher than those without activity limitation (p=0.01). CONCLUSION Utilizing mobile app technology, we were able to gather real-time menstrual outcome data from young adolescents on heaviness of flow, dysmenorrhea and activity limitations. While we did not find that patients with HMB were more likely to have activity limitations, we did find that those with limitations had modestly higher dysmenorrhea scores. Future studies should focus on identifying additional variables that impact activity limitation during menstruation.

Abstract
The Weight Management Health Note application, developed by the Korean Society for the Study of Obesity (KSSO), was designed to assist individuals in weight management and enhance overall well-being. The Committee of IT-Convergence Treatment of Metabolic Syndrome of the KSSO designed this application. Committee members reviewed and supervised the application's underlying driving algorithms and scientific rationale. A healthcare-specific application developer subsequently finalized the application. This application encompasses a myriad of features, including a comprehensive food diary, an exercise tracker, and tailor-made lifestyle recommendations aligned with individual needs and aspirations. Moreover, it facilitates connections within a community of like-minded individuals endeavoring to manage their weight, fostering mutual support and motivation. Importantly, the application is rich in evidence-based health content curated by the KSSO, ensuring users access accurate information for effective obesity management. Looking ahead, the KSSO is committed to orchestrating diverse academic research endeavors linked to this application and refining its functionalities through continuous feedback from users. The KSSO aspires for this application to serve as a valuable resource for individuals striving to manage their health and enhance their quality of life.

Abstract
The use of smart devices such as mobile phones (smartphones) or smart watches (smartwatch) to promote physical activity and well-being has increased in recent years among patients and professionals in primary care. This change is driven by the access of patients and professionals to a large catalog of health applications, which can complement the provision of services and promote the empowerment of patients in their own health and lifestyles. These applications are beginning to be integrated with areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and data storage in the cloud, among other emerging technological systems, offering a new complementary approach to clinical practice known so far. Despite the great potential, there are numerous limitations and major challenges for its full implementation in clinical practice.

Abstract
Background As smartphone ownership has become common in all demographic groups in the United States, smartphone applications (apps) for smoking cessation have grown in popularity due to their potential for supporting the diverse populations in the United States who are attempting to quit smoking. Usability is commonly assessed in mobile health (mHealth) technology as an important aspect of the user experience that could influence users' adherence to a health app and health outcomes. However, the variation of perceived usability across demographic groups, and the implications of that variation for app success, have not been well studied. Objective The aims of this study were to characterize variation in the perceived usability of the National Cancer Institute Smokefree.gov Initiative smoking cessation app quitSTART across demographic groups, and to assess the correlation between perceived usability and short-term smoking cessation. Methods We conducted a secondary analysis of data from a randomized controlled trial conducted from 2020 to 2021, which used a 16-item modified version of the mHealth App Usability Questionnaire (MAUQ) to quantify perceived usability four weeks after app download among 131 smokers attempting to quit. Responses were coded on a 5-point Likert-type scale ranging from strongly disagree (1) to strongly agree (5) and total perceived usability was calculated as the sum of all 16 items (range: 16-80). Associations between participant demographic characteristics (gender, race, education level, age, etc.) and total usability were determined using an ANCOVA model. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to assess the association between usability and smoking cessation, also assessed 4 weeks after app download. Results The ANCOVA model demonstrated that race was associated with perceived usability, with participants from a racial minority group reporting higher total usability than White participants (p < 0.001). White participants had an adjusted mean total usability of 55.8 (95 % CI: 52.8, 58.8) while racial minority group participants had an adjusted mean total usability of 66.5 (95 % CI: 61.2, 71.6). Other participant demographic characteristics, such as gender and sexual minority status, were not associated with mean total usability. Total usability was positively associated with smoking cessation (OR: 1.04, 95 % CI: 1.00, 1.08, p = 0.031). Conclusions Total perceived usability of quitSTART was higher among adults from a racial minority group compared to White adults, and perceived usability was positively associated with cessation success. These findings emphasize the importance of ensuring high usability of mHealth smoking cessation apps for diverse populations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Numerous smartphone and tablet applications (apps) are available to monitor movement disorders, but an overview of their purpose and stage of development is missing. OBJECTIVES To systematically review published literature and classify smartphone and tablet apps with objective measurement capabilities for the diagnosis, monitoring, assessment, or treatment of movement disorders. METHODS We systematically searched for publications covering smartphone or tablet apps to monitor movement disorders until November 22nd, 2023. We reviewed the target population, measured domains, purpose, and technology readiness level (TRL) of the proposed app and checked their availability in common app stores. RESULTS We identified 113 apps. Most apps were developed for Parkinson's disease specifically (n = 82; 73%) or for movement disorders in general (n = 17; 15%). Apps were either designed to momentarily assess symptoms (n = 65; 58%), support treatment (n = 22; 19%), aid in diagnosis (n = 16; 14%), or passively track symptoms (n = 11; 10%). Commonly assessed domains across movement disorders included fine motor skills (n = 34; 30%), gait (n = 36; 32%), and tremor (n = 32; 28%) for the motor domain and cognition (n = 16; 14%) for the non-motor domain. Twenty-six (23%) apps were proof-of-concepts (TRL 1-3), while most apps were tested in a controlled setting (TRL 4-6; n = 63; 56%). Twenty-four apps were tested in their target setting (TRL 7-9) of which 10 were accessible in common app stores or as Android Package. CONCLUSIONS The development of apps strongly gravitates towards Parkinson's disease and a selection of motor symptoms. Collaboration, re-use and further development of existing apps is encouraged to avoid reinventions of the wheel.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mobile phone applications (apps) show promise for enhancing asthma self-management, but their effectiveness varies. This study examined the effect of a smartphone asthma app on asthma control and quality of life. METHODS Using block randomization, 60 patients with asthma were allocated to an intervention group (n = 30) or control group (n = 30) for this single-blind randomized controlled trial. At baseline, both groups completed the Asthma Control Test (ACT) and Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire-Marks (AQLQ-M). The intervention group used a smartphone-based asthma self-management app plus their regular treatment, while the control group received only usual care. Follow-up ACT and AQLQ-M assessments occurred at 3 and 6 months. SPSS version 26 was used for analysis, including descriptive statistics, non-parametric tests (Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney U), and analysis of variance with repeated measurements. RESULTS Both groups showed improved asthma control and quality of life at 3 and 6 months compared to baseline. However, after 6 months the intervention group had significantly greater improvement than controls (p < 0.05). Repeated measures ANOVA revealed divergent changes in ACT and AQLQ-M scores over time, with the intervention group demonstrating greater enhancement of asthma control and quality of life (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION This study demonstrated that use of a smartphone-based asthma self-management app improved asthma control and quality of life after 6 months compared to usual care alone. These findings indicate that guideline-based asthma apps can positively impact outcomes.

Abstract
Among other things, digital health applications offer users support in better understanding their physical and mental health through digital data, thereby promoting positive health behavior. In addition to state-approved digital health applications (DiGA) and digital care applications (DiPA), there is a wide array of other commercial health applications available to users. Particularly in non-approved applications, developers often deploy manipulative design strategies (dark patterns), intentionally or unintentionally, to deceive users into making specific decisions. This article provides an overview of current and widespread dark patterns and assesses the risks posed by them in digital health applications.In the future, "light" should be shed on dark patterns by creating more transparency for users, providing regulators with a more accurate understanding of dark patterns, and paying more attention to the implementation of guidelines. Thus, users may gain autonomy using healthcare applications and their data can be better protected.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Smartphone applications are used widely in healthcare, including antimicrobial applications such as Microguide. There has been no review of hospitals using this smartphone application for ENT conditions. METHODS This study analysed all hospital accounts using Microguide and examined the ENT conditions that were listed. RESULTS In total, 123 hospitals were included in this study; 45 ENT-related conditions were listed on Microguide across all hospitals, with an average of 8 conditions listed per hospital. CONCLUSION There is a significant disparity of ENT conditions listed on Microguide. A suggested list is recommended to be included for ENT departments using Microguide, to help improve antimicrobial stewardship for the specialty.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Objective assessment of pre-operative functional capacity in cancer patients using the smartphone gyroscope during the Chester step (CST) test may allow greater sensitivity of test results. This study has investigated whether the CST is a postoperative hospital permanence predictor in cancer patients undergoing abdominopelvic surgery through work, VO2MAX and gyroscopic movement analysis. METHODS Prospective, quantitative, descriptive and inferential observational cohort study. Fifty-one patients were evaluated using CST in conjunction with a smartphone gyroscope. Multivariate linear regression analysis was used to examine the predictive value of the CST. RESULTS The duration of hospital permanence 30 days after surgery was longer when patients who performed stage 1 showed lower RMS amplitude and higher peak power. The work increased as the test progressed in stage 3. High VO2MAX seemed to be a predictor of hospital permanence in those who completed levels 3 and 4 of the test. CONCLUSION The use of the gyroscope was more accurate in detecting mobility changes, which predicted a less favorable result for those who met at level 1 of the CST. VO2MAX was a predictor of prolonged hospitalization from level 3 of the test. The work was less accurate to determine the patient's true functional capacity.

Abstract
Background This study examines integrating physical and mental healthcare for disadvantaged persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus and mild-to-moderate depression in the community, using a mobile application within a public-private-academic partnership. Methods The Korean Diabetes Association has developed a mobile application combining behavioral activation for psychological well-being and diabetes self-management, with conventional medical therapy. Participants were randomly assigned to receive the application with usual care or only usual care. Primary outcomes measured changes in psychological status and diabetes selfmanagement through questionnaires at week 12 from the baseline. Secondary outcomes assessed glycemic and lipid control, with psychological assessments at week 16. Results Thirty-nine of 73 participants completed the study (20 and 19 in the intervention and control groups, respectively) and were included in the analysis. At week 12, the intervention group showed significant reductions in depression severity and perceived stress compared to the control group. Additionally, they reported increased perceived social support and demonstrated improved diabetes self-care behavior. These positive effects persisted through week 16, with the added benefit of reduced anxiety. While fasting glucose levels in the intervention group tended to improve, no other significant differences were observed in laboratory assessments between the groups. Conclusion This study provides compelling evidence for the potential efficacy of a mobile application that integrates physical and mental health components to address depressive symptoms and enhance diabetes self-management in disadvantaged individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus and depression. Further research involving larger and more diverse populations is warranted to validate these findings and solidify their implications.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the feasibility and effects of a mobile app-based home cycling exercise program compared to home cycling exercise without additional monitoring system. Compared with fitness facilities or outdoor exercise, home-based exercise programs effectively improve physical performance in an indwelling community. However, a flexible, informal environment may decrease motivation and impair adherence to physical exercise. Mobile devices for aerobic exercise and mobile applications provide real-time monitoring, immediate feedback, and encouragement to increase motivation and promote physical performance. We investigated the feasibility and effects of a mobile app-based home exercise program on body composition, muscular strength, and cardiopulmonary function. METHODS Between February and May 2023, 20 participants were randomly allocated to the intervention (mobile application with a tablet) and control groups, and they performed aerobic exercise using a stationary bicycle for ≥150 minutes per week for 6 weeks (≤30-minute exercise session, with 3-minute warm-up and 3-minute cool-down). Karvonen formula-based heartrate defined the weekly increase in exercise intensity. Outcome measures included body-composition parameters, isokinetic knee flexor and extensor strength tests, cardiopulmonary exercise test results, and rate of target heart rate (HR) achievement. Participants were assessed at baseline and after the intervention. RESULTS Unrelated personal events led two participants to drop out. The intervention and control groups had similar baseline characteristics. Compared with the control group, in the post-intervention isokinetic strength test, bilateral knee flexor and extensor power, and time to target HR achievement significantly increased each week in the intervention group. CONCLUSION Home-based exercise to achieve long-term cardiovascular fitness with portable electronic/mobile devices facilitates individualized exercise using real-time feedback to improve motivation and adherence.

Abstract
In the context of escalating obesity rates, bariatric surgery holds a crucial role in managing severely obese patients. With a demonstrated effectiveness in weight loss and with the advent of ambulatory surgery, bariatric surgery allows for a streamlined care pathway, ideally suited for postoperative surveillance using digital health applications. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to evaluate the effect of eHealth-delivered health services or support for adults undergoing bariatric surgery. Five studies, encompassing 2210 patients, were analysed. The intervention group showed a 10% increase in total weight reduction and a 22% reduction in excess weight loss. ED visitation rates also trended towards reduction. Despite the absence of clear statistical superiority for DHA, the findings suggest potential benefits of DHA in postoperative monitoring.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Digital technology has enabled gamification methods to enhance triage education, reflecting an evolving healthcare landscape. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effectiveness of a Gamification Triage Education App (GTEA) as a learning tool for emergency nurses, with a focus on creating an engaging and educationally effective platform for triage training. METHOD The GTEA was developed using no-code based software and expanded upon previous iterations, with added features such as points, rankings, instant feedback, and quest-based stories. From December 2021 to March 2022, 27 emergency room nurses from three hospitals in Korea were instructed to use GTEA for 100 min over the course of a week. The effects were measured before and after the intervention. RESULTS The results demonstrated a significant increase in triage accuracy from 4.3 ± 2.00 to 5.33 ± 1.47 (t = -2.18, p = 0.039), along with a substantial reduction in overtriage (t = 3.11, p = 0.004). Additionally, increases in critical thinking disposition, triage competency, and triage knowledge were observed (t = -3.11, p = 0.004; t = -2.72, p = 0.011; t = -3.14, p = 0.004, respectively). CONCLUSIONS The findings provide robust evidence for the effectiveness of gamification in triage training within emergency nursing.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aims to explore the suitability of using smartphone applications with low-cost external microphones in measuring noise levels in intensive care units. METHODS Four apps and two external microphones were tested in a laboratory by generating test signals at five noise levels. The average noise levels were measured using the apps and a professional device (i.e. a sound level meter). A field test was performed in an intensive care unit with two apps and one microphone. Noise levels were measured in terms of average and maximum noise levels according to the World Health Organisation's guidance. All the measurements in both tests were conducted after acoustic calibration using a sound calibrator. RESULTS Overall, apps with low-cost external microphones produced reliable results of averaged noise levels in both the laboratory and field settings. The differences between the apps and the sound level meter were within ±2 dB. In the field test, the best combination of app and microphone showed negligible difference (< 2 dB) compared to the sound level meter in terms of the average noise level. However, the maximum noise level measured by the apps exhibited significant differences from those measured by the sound level meter, ranging from -0.9 dB to -4.7 dB. CONCLUSION Smartphone apps and low-cost external microphones can be used reliably to measure the average noise level in the intensive care unit after acoustic calibration. However, professional equipment is still necessary for accurate measurement of the maximum noise level.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Low back pain is the fourth most common reason for consulting a general practitioner (GP) among people aged 40-50 years. Beyond the overall benefits of physical activity (PA) on health (psychological, cardiovascular, etc.), PA for low back pain seems to improve the prognosis in terms of pain, disability, and quality of life. The French National Health Insurance developed media campaigns to promote physical activity with low back pain and a smartphone application (app). Despite the known benefits and campaigns, GPs do not routinely provide advice about physical activity during low back pain consultations. To promote giving physical activity advice for low back pain, there is a need to understand how GPs currently provide this advice and whether technology could help. This study aims to explore the content of physical activity advice for low back pain that GPs provide in France, and their opinion about healthcare smartphone app provided electronically via the internet (e-health apps) as a support for this advice. METHODS This qualitative study was conducted with semi-structured individual interviews among French GPs. The verbatim was double coded using a coding tree. Thematic analysis was performed using an inductive approach. RESULTS Sixteen GPs from Maine et Loire, Sarthe, and Mayenne were included. The thematic analysis identified the following themes: GPs use a global patient-centred approach to physical activity advice for low back pain. The main goal is to enable patients to participate in their care. Advice was almost always general with little information about duration and frequency. The importance of patient-appropriate and easily achievable activities was emphasised. GPs referred patients to physiotherapists to reinforce regular physical activity, maintain motivation and improve patient adherence through supervision and follow-up. GPs knew little about e-health apps but felt they could be useful with young patients. The main barriers to their use included poor internet connection, lack of technical knowledge and no supervision meaning patients could injure themselves. CONCLUSIONS This is one of the first studies to assess the contents of physical activity advice GPs provide for low back pain. Further research is needed into the implementation of e-health apps for low back pain management. TRIAL REGISTRATION Not applicable.

Abstract
Oncology clinicians must participate in continuing professional development (CPD) to stay up to date with best practice. The Cancer Institute NSW eviQ Education program produces evidence-based, peer-reviewed eLearning resources for oncology professionals. In response to user feedback, eviQ Education trialled a mobile app, EdApp, to improve accessibility of self-directed CPD materials. Following a pilot, users indicated that the EdApp improved CPD accessibility and user experience. EdApp will continue to be used to support evidence-based practice.

Abstract
PROBLEM It is necessary to continue promoting breastfeeding rates. BACKGROUND Information and communication technologies have significantly impacted healthcare services and are transforming the sector. There is little evidence of the usefulness of mobile applications to support breastfeeding and increase its duration. AIM To assess whether mobile application-LactApp® (Barcelona, Spain)-usage compared with standard care increases the 6-month postpartum breastfeeding rate. METHODS A multicentre, randomised, controlled clinical trial of parallel groups was conducted. The study was conducted in four public hospitals in Spain from January 2022 to January 2023. 270 Women were randomly assigned to each parallel group. The women in the intervention group received free access to the mobile application LactApp®, which provides personalised and convenient support to women about BF. Women in the control group received standard care, which included individual counselling about the benefits of maintaining BF for the first 6 months of the baby's life. FINDINGS The rate of breastfeeding abandonment at 15 days was 6.4 % in the control group vs 0.0 % in the intervention group (p = 0.105). LactApp® usage did not increase the 6-month postpartum breastfeeding rate compared with standard care (CG = 41.6% vs. IG = 43.6 %; p = 0.826). DISCUSSION Further studies must explore how technologies can help improve long-term breastfeeding maintenance. The mobile app seems to reduce early weaning in the first 15 days slightly. CONCLUSION Mobile application usage did not increase the breastfeeding rate compared with standard practice but may reduce breastfeeding abandonment in the first 2 weeks postpartum.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The primary objective of this study is to describe the design and implementation of a mobile application (App) for tracking preparations compounded in the Pharmacy Department. Secondary objectives include evaluating the time spent on resolving incidents related to the distribution of preparations before and after implementation, assessing users satisfaction with the application, and establishing a panel of quality indicators based on the data extracted from the App. METHODS Defining application requirements, identifying drugs to be included in the software and outlining different workflows. Developing the App in collaboration with the supplier and integrating it with the computer programs involved in prescription and validation. Additionally, QR codes were created to identify delivery points at destination units, and suitable mobile devices were acquired. The initial phase involved user training in the application and a pilot test conducted in a hospital ward. The subsequent phase focused on expansion and consolidation. RESULTS The system includes 86.9% of all sterile preparations prepared in the Hospital Pharmacy, encompassing chemotherapy, adult parenteral nutrition, and other non-hazardous sterile preparations. Furthermore, the application has been implemented in all hospitalization wards, day care units and two external sites. On average, 5,403 preparations were tracked per month (SD = 297.3). The time required to address incidents related to the distribution of preparations has decreased by 83% (from 38.9 to 6.6 minutes per day). The App regularly provides valuable management data for optimizing workflow in the compounding area. Additionally, users have expressed satisfaction with the application. DISCUSION The proposed application enables hospital staff to easily and intuitively track preparations compounded in the pharmacy, irrespective of the computer program used for prescription. It has significantly reduced the need for manual record-keeping and has mitigated incidents associated with the distribution of sterile preparations.

Abstract
Activity trackers and wearables allow accurate determination of physical activity, basic vital parameters, and tracking of complex medical conditions. This review attempts to provide a roadmap for the development of these applications, outlining the basic tools available, how they can be combined, and what currently exists in the marketplace for spine patients. Various types of sensors currently exist to measure distinct aspects of user movement. These include the accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, barometer, global positioning system (GPS), Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and microphone. Integration of data from these sensors allows detailed tracking of location and vectors of motion, resulting in accurate mobility assessments. These assessments can have great value for a variety of healthcare specialties, but perhaps none more so than spine surgery. Patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) are subject to bias and are difficult to track frequently - a problem that is ripe for disruption with the continued development of mobility technology. Currently, multiple mobile applications exist as an extension of clinical care. These include Manage My Surgery (MMS), SOVINITY-e-Healthcare Services, eHealth System, Beiwe Smartphone Application, QS Access, 6WT, and the TUG app. These applications utilize sensor data to assess patient activity at baseline and postoperatively. The results are evaluated in conjunction with PROMs. However, these applications have not yet exploited the full potential of available sensors. There is a need to develop smartphone applications that can accurately track the functional status and activity of spine patients, allowing a more quantitative assessment of outcomes, in contrast to legacy PROMs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this paper is to explore the influence of Web 2.0 as a complementary support network to traditional networks for the promotion of breastfeeding (BF). METHOD Qualitative and exploratory study carried out from September 8 to December 31, 2022, at the Las Vegas Health Centre (Corvera), Health Service of the Principality of Asturias (SESPA). The participants were 5 professional experts in BF and 7 breastfeeding mothers, who made up two focus groups, selected by convenience sampling. The analysis consisted of transcription of data, in-depth reading, analysis by grouping concepts and classification of the information into categories. RESULTS After the final analysis, seven categories were identified, organised according to the proximity of the topic and the proposed objective, based on the most significant discourses of the study: difficulties during BF, importance of receiving help: first support networks, other support networks, A health system with deficiencies, pandemic and BF 2.0, Health 2.0 and apps in BF: new form of support and characteristics of an "ideal" app on BF. CONCLUSIONS Web 2.0 has revolutionised the way mothers access information and support on BF, creating an online support network connecting mothers and professionals around the world, providing up-to-date information and enabling a source of emotional support through the creation of peer groups. This positive influence of Web 2.0 has had a significant impact on promoting BF and empowering mothers to make informed decisions about their breastfeeding process.

Abstract
PURPOSE This pilot study aimed to assess the feasibility, preliminary efficacy, and effects of a mobile app healthcare coaching program developed based on self-regulation theory among youths with type 1 diabetes. METHODS A mixed-method design was utilized. Participants were randomly assigned into intervention (n=23, 12-week coaching program) or control groups (n=16, usual care). Pre- and post-intervention assessments included self-efficacy, diabetes management behavior, and health outcomes (quality of life, depression, and HbA1c). Quantitative data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN ver. 26.0. The narrative information from the participants in the healthcare coaching program underwent content analyzed. RESULTS The intervention group had significantly lower depression scores (t=2.57, p=.014) than the control group. No significant differences were observed in self-efficacy, diabetes management behavior, and health outcomes between the two groups. The average frequency of health behavior monitoring per week among the participants was 1.86±1.60. The qualitative findings indicated that participants perceived improved diabetes self-management with the intervention; however, challenges during vacations, dietary control difficulties, and a lack of disease awareness were identified. CONCLUSION The healthcare coaching program improved psychological aspects for youth with type 1 diabetes. Further research is needed to develop and implement mobile app interventions aimed at enhancing compliance with diabetes management in pediatric and adolescent populations.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The primary objective of this study is to describe the design and implementation of a mobile application (App) for tracking preparations compounded in the Pharmacy Department. Secondary objectives include: i) evaluating the time spent on resolving incidents related to the distribution of preparations before and after implementation, ii) assessing users satisfaction with the application, and iii) establishing a panel of quality indicators based on the data extracted from the App. METHODS 1) Defining application requirements, identifying drugs to be included in the software and outlining different workflows. 2) Developing the App in collaboration with the supplier and integrating it with the computer programs involved in prescription and validation. Additionally, QR codes were created to identify delivery points at destination units, and suitable mobile devices were acquired. The initial phase involved user training in the application and a pilot test conducted in a hospital ward. 3) The subsequent phase focused on expansion and consolidation. RESULTS The system includes 86.9% of all sterile preparations prepared in the Hospital Pharmacy, encompassing chemotherapy, adult parenteral nutrition, and other non-hazardous sterile preparations. Furthermore, the application has been implemented in all hospitalisation wards, day care units and two external sites. On average, 5403 preparations were tracked per month (SD = 297.3). The time required to address incidents related to the distribution of preparations has decreased by 83% (from 38.9 to 6.6 min per day). The App regularly provides valuable management data for optimising workflow in the compounding area. Additionally, users have expressed satisfaction with the application. DISCUSION The proposed application enables hospital staff to easily and intuitively track preparations compounded in the Pharmacy, irrespective of the computer program used for prescription. It has significantly reduced the need for manual record-keeping and has mitigated incidents associated with the distribution of sterile preparations.

Abstract
Objective Among patients with coronary heart disease, we sought to address the research questions of: 1) What is the acceptability of applying a technology-enabled approach to support medication adherence?; and 2) What are barriers to medication adherence using the Capability-Opportunity-Motivation Behavior (COM-B) model as a guiding framework? Methods Applying qualitative research methods, we employed a series of 3 focus groups per individual (total 9 sessions). Coded data from thematic analysis were mapped to the COM-B model components for meaningful associations. Results Fourteen participants were recruited (median age 69.5 ± 11, 50% female). Barriers to medication adherence were organized along these COM-B domains: psychological capability (forgetfulness, distractions, fear of side effects), physical opportunity (inaccessible medications, inability to renew prescriptions), reflective (burdening family members), and automatic motivation (medication fatigue, health decline). Conclusions Tailored text messaging and mobile phone apps were perceived as helpful tools for medication adherence. The COM-B model was useful to provide a comprehensive, theory-driven evaluation of patients' beliefs and motivations on whether to engage in medication adherence. Innovation To date, text messaging and mobile applications have not been widely implemented in the clinical setting and provide a major opportunity to innovate on approaches to address medication adherence.

Abstract
Objective To provide an overview of the development of the Preparing Heart and Mind™ (PHM™) care program designed for parents with a prenatal diagnosis of critical congenital heart disease (CCHD) and describe issues of parental concern, caregiving competencies, and type and timing of PHM™ topics. Methods Guided participation theory underpinned intervention development and a mixed methods pilot of a novel, nurse-guided mHealth intervention. Parents were enrolled from the third trimester of pregnancy-12 weeks postnatally. Online surveys, session transcripts, and app use were descriptively analyzed. Results The sample included 19 mothers/birthing persons and 15 caregiving partners randomized to the intervention group. In 49 sessions, mental health/wellbeing (94%) and condition-specific information (86%) were top issues. Many caregiving competencies were developed, with mothers/birthing persons often focused on feeding (86%). Regulating emotions and co-parenting consistently needed support. PHM™ topics of preparing for hospitalization (47%) and handling uncertainty (45%) were most discussed. Two cases further characterize findings. Conclusion Nurse-parent collaborative understanding of issues emphasized the need for mental health assessments. Prenatal intervention opportunities were underscored through discussions of caregiving issues and PHM™ topics. Innovation PHM™ represents an innovative approach that holds promise for supporting parents' mental health and caregiving needs outside the healthcare setting.

Abstract
Objectives To understand the barriers to core functions and workflow among patient navigators (PN) who navigate people diagnosed with breast cancer (BC). To identify how a mobile health (mHealth) app could assist PNs in providing care to BC patients. Methods This qualitative research study used purposive sampling to recruit stakeholders (N = 33) from January to August 2021. We conducted individual semi-structured interviews with PNs (n = 11), oncology care providers (n = 12), and BC patients (n = 10). We used conventional content analysis to analyze the interview data. Results Participants identified the following sociotechnical systems barriers in PN workflows that negatively impact BC patient care: 1) resources, 2) insurance coverage, 3) communication challenges, and 4) impact of logistical tasks. Participants identified the user experience, app features, and interoperability customizations to enhance PNs' provision of patient care as important design elements to include in a mHealth app. Conclusion Feedback from stakeholders provided valuable insights into key design considerations, functions, and content areas for developing a mHealth app for PN use in BC care delivery. Innovation This is one of the first studies to incorporate the human-centered design and sociotechnical systems frameworks to understand barriers to PN workflow and provision of BC patient care across the cancer care continuum.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Electronic delirium-screening tools are an emergent area of research. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to summarise the development and performance characteristics of electronic screening tools in delirium. METHODS Searches were conducted in Pubmed, Embase, and CINAHL Complete databases to identify electronic delirium-screening tools. RESULTS Five electronic delirium-screening tools were identified and reviewed. Two were designed for and tested within a medical setting, and three were applied to intensive care. Adaptive design features, such as skip function to reduce test burden, were variably integrated into instrument design. All tools were shown to have acceptable psychometric properties, but validation studies were largely incomplete. CONCLUSIONS Electronic delirium-screening tools are an exciting area of development and may offer hope for improved uptake of delirium screening.

Abstract
Background Advances in smartphone technology have allowed people to access mental healthcare via digital apps from wherever and whenever they choose. University students experience a high burden of mental health concerns. Although these apps improve mental health symptoms, user engagement has remained low. Studies have shown that users can be subgrouped based on unique characteristics that just-in-time adaptive interventions (JITAIs) can use to improve engagement. To date, however, no studies have examined the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on these subgroups. Objective Here, we sought to examine user subgroup characteristics across three COVID-19-specific timepoints: during lockdown, immediately following lockdown, and three months after lockdown ended. Methods To do this, we used a two-step machine learning approach combining unsupervised and supervised machine learning. Results We demonstrate that there are three unique subgroups of university students who access mental health apps. Two of these, with either higher or lower mental well-being, were defined by characteristics that were stable across COVID-19 timepoints. The third, situational well-being, had characteristics that were timepoint-dependent, suggesting that they are highly influenced by traumatic stressors and stressful situations. This subgroup also showed feelings and behaviours consistent with burnout. Conclusions Overall, our findings clearly suggest that user subgroups are unique: they have different characteristics and therefore likely have different mental healthcare goals. Our findings also highlight the importance of including questions and additional interventions targeting traumatic stress(ors), reason(s) for use, and burnout in JITAI-style mental health apps to improve engagement.

Abstract
Telemedicine is being applied in assisted reproduction technology (ART) to provide remote consultations, monitoring and support for patients. This study aimed to evaluate the potential advantages of telemedicine in ART treatment in the form of virtual consultations. Studies in which patients were using telemedicine during ART treatment were identified from four scientific databases (PudMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science). The success of fertility treatments was compared between telemedicine and in-office care, and patient satisfaction with ART through telemedicine was assessed. Eleven studies, comprising 4697 patients, were identified. Quality assessment (Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal and revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tools) revealed an acceptable risk of bias for both randomized controlled trials and observational studies. Using a fixed-effects model, telemedicine was comparable to in-person care regarding the pregnancy rate achieved (odds ratio 1.02, 95% confidence intervals 0.83-1.26, P = 0.83). A Q-test suggested that all the included studies were homogeneous. Patients who received telemedicine during fertility treatment reported a high level of satisfaction (91%, 95% confidence intervals 80-96%). Egger's test confirmed that no publication bias was found. Telemedicine could serve as a complementary tool during fertility treatment to facilitate patients' satisfaction and overcome some practical problems without compromising treatment outcomes. Future studies should continue exploring the potential applications of telemedicine in assisted reproduction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of mortality worldwide. A significant contributing factor to this mortality is the lack of engagement in preventive activities. Consequently, strategies for enhancing adherence to and duration of physical activity (PA) have become pivotal. This project aims to create and validate innovative, disruptive, and secure technologies that ensure appropriate exercise intensity, bolster adherence to PA, and monitor health biomarker responses pre-, during, and post-physical activity. METHODS This exploratory study, followed by a noninferiority, investigator-blinded randomized clinical trial, will be divided into three phases: (1) development and validation of a sensor for real-time biofeedback during a functional assessment test; (2) integration of biofeedback and gamification into an app for the structured prescription of physical training within a controlled setting; and (3) implementation of biofeedback and gamification into an app for the prescription and monitoring of physical training in an uncontrolled setting. Phase 1 entails a validation test of a biosensor-monitoring heart rate (HR) and steps-during a modified shuttle walk test. In phase 2, the biosensor interfaces with a gamified smartphone application. The training regimen spans 6 weeks, 5 days weekly, with each session lasting 60 min: a five-min warm-up involving stationary gait, followed by 50 min of training at the target HR on the step and concluding with a five-min cool-down at a stationary pace. After 6 weeks of training, a new functional capacity test is conducted. Phase 3 involves an investigator-blinded, randomized clinical trial to demonstrate noninferiority. Participants are randomly assigned to either the intervention group (IG) or the control group (CG). IG participants practice exercise using the gamified application in an uncontrolled environment according to the prescribed method outlined in phase 2. CG participants receive PA practice guidelines exclusively. DISCUSSION Anticipated outcomes include improved exercise adherence through the gamified application, better maintenance of prescribed exercise intensity, and enhanced health biomarkers. The results of this study will inform health-related decision-making. TRIAL REGISTRATION The study protocol received approval from the Ethics Committee of Universidade Federal de Ciências da Saúde de Porto Alegre (54,492,221.80000.5345) and has been registered with the Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials (ReBEC, RBR-359p69v).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) considerably impacts patients' lives. Patients' confidence in their ability to manage this impact, or self-efficacy, can be supported with self-management interventions. One approach is to use mobile health (mHealth) applications, which can additionally provide insight into disease impact by remotely monitoring patient-reported outcomes. However, user engagement with mHealth-apps is variable, and concerns exist that remote monitoring might make patients overly attentive to symptoms. METHODS App-based Education and GOal setting in RA (AEGORA) is a multicentre, pragmatic randomised controlled trial investigating an mHealth-based self-management intervention to improve self-efficacy and remotely monitor disease impact in patients with RA. The intervention is provided via an adapted version of the application Sidekick (Sidekick Health, Reykjavik, Iceland) and consists of education, goal setting, lifestyle advice, and remote assessment of the Rheumatoid Arthritis Impact of Disease (RAID) questionnaire. Across two centres, 120 patients will be recruited and randomised (2:1:1) to usual care or intervention group A/B (study app with weekly/monthly prompts to complete the RAID, respectively). Outcomes are assessed at baseline and after 4-6 months. The primary endpoint is a clinically important improvement (≥ 5.5/110) in the Arthritis Self-Efficacy Scale in the combined intervention group compared to usual care. Secondary endpoints are (a) non-inferiority regarding pain catastrophising, as a measure of symptom hypervigilance; (b) superiority regarding the RAID, sleep quality, and physical activity; and (c) participant engagement with the study app. Finally, the relationship between engagement, prompted frequency of RAID questionnaires, and the primary and secondary outcomes will be explored. DISCUSSION The AEGORA trial aims to study the effectiveness of mHealth-based, multicomponent self-management support to improve self-efficacy in the context of RA, while providing potentially valuable insights into temporal disease activity dynamics and the feasibility and possible negative effects of remote symptom monitoring in this population. TRIAL REGISTRATION Clinicaltrials.gov NCT05888181. Retrospectively registered on March 23, 2023. Study inclusion started on March 3, 2023.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This review aimed to evaluate the effect of mobile health applications (apps) use on medication adherence in heart failure (HF) patients, and to verify their quality of use. METHODS We searched MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, CINAHL, LILACS, Cochrane, Clinical Trial Registries, Google Scholar, ProQuest, Open Access Theses and dissertations (OATD), Annual Symposium Proceedings of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA). RESULTS Of the 836 records identified, eight studies (five randomized clinical trials (RCTs) and three observational studies) were included, totaling 484 participants, with a mean age ranging from 51.1 to 72 years and 65% were male. The apps improved medication adherence when compared with their comparators in only two RCTs (n = 111, Cohen d = 3.23, 95% confidence interval (CI) 2.66; 3.80 and n = 80, d = 1.20, 95% CI 0.71; 1.66), and two observational studies, one of them with large effect size (n = 142, Cohen d = 1.51, 95% CI 1.12; 1.90). Apps proved to be more effective interventions than their comparators allowed continuous monitoring of patients. All included studies used self-report measures to assess medication adherence behaviors and their results should be interpreted with caution, as such tools may cause social desirability bias or recall bias. CONCLUSION The included studies indicate a possible outcome in favor of the use of apps to improve medication adherence in HF patients, but with very low quality level of evidence. Further studies are needed to investigate the effects of the use of apps, optimal frequency and duration of its use in HF patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Applications for pregnancy self-care (APSC) can improve post-partum by empowering pregnant women's status quo. This study endeavored to identify the operational needs of an application (app) from the perspective of Iranian pregnant women. MATERIALS AND METHODS In a qualitative manner, semi-structured and face-to-face interviews were conducted using an interview guide. Interviewees were pregnant women who encountered to health facilities of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences for prenatal care and were willing to be interviewed. The interviews were conducted from June 2019 to June 2021. All the recorded interviews were transcribed. The obtained data were analyzed through conventional content analysis using MAXQDA 12 (Developer: VERBI GmbH Release: 2015 Version: 12 OS: Microsoft Windows Type: Qualitative Data Analysis - Offline). Data saturation was obtained after 14 interviews. One of the researchers, as a data encoder, became acquainted with them by immersing himself in the data. After the data was first encoded and summarized, the codes were analyzed. In addition, an attempt was made to reduce the impact of researchers' experiences at different stages of the study process. RESULTS Based on the opinions of pregnant women, 7 main themes (nutrition, training, fatal monitoring, relaxation, health, risk factors, physical activity) and 38 sub-themes were identified for APSC development. The findings revealed that pregnant women tend to use APSC, but because they are not comprehensive, women search the Internet to answer some of their information needs. CONCLUSIONS The findings can be useful in developing a comprehensive pregnancy self-care mobile application that is localized based on the operational needs of pregnant women to make them capable and self-caring in controlling pre-risk situations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Loss of cognitive and executive functions is a problem that affects people of all ages. That is why it is important to perform exercises for memory training and prevent early cognitive deterioration. The aim of this work was to compare the cognitive performance of the participants after an intervention by using two mnemonic techniques to exercise memory functions (paired-associate learning and method of loci). METHODS A longitudinal study was conducted with 21 healthy participants aged 18 to 55 years over a 2-month period. To assess the impact of this proposal, the NEUROPSI brief battery cognitive assessment test was applied before and after the intervention. In each session, a previous cognitive training was carried out using the paired-associate learning technique, to later perform a task based on the loci method, all from a smart device-based application. The accuracy response and reaction times were automatically collected in the app. RESULTS After the intervention, a statistically significant improvement was obtained in the neuropsychological assessment (NEUROPSI neuropsychological battery) reflected by the Wilcoxon paired signed-rank test (P < .05). CONCLUSION The task based on the method of loci also reflected the well-known age-related effects common to memory assessment tasks. Episodic memory training using the method of loci can be successfully implemented using a smart device app. A stage-based methodological design allows to acquire mnemic skills gradually, obtaining a significant cognitive improvement in a short period of time.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Guidelines recommend reluctant psychotropic drug (PD) prescribing in nursing home residents with dementia and neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS), as efficacy of PDs is limited, and side effects are common. Nevertheless, PDs are commonly prescribed to reduce NPS. A smartphone application that evaluates appropriateness of PD prescriptions and provides recommendations from the revised Dutch guideline on problem behaviour in dementia may promote guideline adherence and increase appropriate prescribing. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to assess user experiences, barriers and facilitators of the Dutch 'Psychotropic Drug Tool' smartphone application (PDT) in the context of appropriate prescribing of PDs to nursing home residents with dementia and NPS. METHODS/DESIGN The PDT was developed according to the recommendations of the Dutch guideline for treatment of NPS in people with dementia. Feedback provided during usability testing with two end-users was applied to improve the PDT before implementation in day-to-day practice. Sixty-three prescribers were asked to use the PDT at their own convenience for four months. User expectations and experiences were assessed at baseline and after four months with the System Usability Scale and the Assessment of Barriers and Facilitators for Implementation. RESULTS Expected usability (M = 72.59; SD = 11.84) was similar to experienced usability after four months (M = 69.13; SD = 16.48). Appreciation of the PDTs user-friendliness (on average 6.7 out of 10) and design (7.3) were moderately positive, in contrast to the global rating of the PDT (5.7). Perceived barriers for PDT use were time consumption and lack of integration with existing electronic systems. Perceived facilitators were ease of use and attractive lay out. For broader implementation, physicians suggested a change in direction of the PDT: start assessment of appropriateness based on the list of NPS instead of PD as primary input. CONCLUSIONS In this pragmatic prospective cohort study we found that the PDT was used by elderly care physicians, with mediocre user satisfaction. The PDT will be optimized based on user feedback regarding experienced usability, barriers and facilitators, after which broader implementation can be initialized. Abstract
Background Research investigating the potential for digital mental health interventions with integrated relational agents to improve mental health outcomes is in its infancy. By delivering evidence-based mental health interventions through tailored, empathic conversations, relational agents have the potential to help individuals manage their stress and mood, and increase positive mental health. Aims The aims of this study were twofold: 1) to assess whether a smartphone app delivering mental health support through a relational agent, Woebot, is associated with changes in stress, burnout, and resilience over 8 weeks, and 2) to identify demographic and clinical factors associated with changes in these outcomes. Method This exploratory, non-randomized, single-armed, open-labeled trial was conducted from May to July 2022. A total of 256 adults (mean age 39 ± 13.35; 72 % females) recruited through social media advertising enrolled in the study. Participants completed an 8-week intervention period during which they were invited to use a smartphone app called Woebot-LIFE that delivers cognitive behavioral therapy through a relational agent called "Woebot". Participant-reported measures of stress, burnout, and resilience were collected at Baseline, and Week 8. Changes in these outcomes during the study period were assessed. Bivariate and stepwise multiple regression modeling was used to identify sociodemographic and clinical factors associated with observed changes over the 8-week study period. Results Exposure to Woebot-LIFE was associated with significant reductions in perceived stress and burnout and significantly increased resilience over the 8-week study period. A greater reduction in stress was observed among those with clinically elevated mood symptoms (i.e., Patient Health Questionnaire-8 or Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scores ≥10) at baseline compared to those without; however, the differences in the improvements in resilience scores and burnout between the two groups were not statistically significant. Although a difference in the magnitude of change in stress was observed for participants with and without clinically elevated mood symptoms at baseline, significant improvements in stress, burnout, and resilience over the 8-week study period were observed for both groups. Bivariate analyses showed that race, insurance type, and baseline level of resilience were associated with changes in each of the outcomes, though baseline resilience was the only factor that remained significantly associated with changes in the outcomes in the stepwise multiple regression analyses. Conclusion Results of this single-arm, exploratory study suggest that conversational agent-guided mental health interventions such as Woebot-LIFE may be associated with reduced stress and burnout and increased resilience in both clinical and non-clinical populations.

Abstract
Cyberbullying has become a prominent risk for youth and an increasing concern for parents. To help parents reduce their child's cyberbullying risk, anti-bullying apps (ABAs)-mobile applications for identifying and preventing instances of cyberbullying-have been developed in recent years. Given that ABAs are an emerging technology, limited research has been conducted to understand the factors predicting parents' intentions to use them. Drawing on three interdisciplinary theoretical frameworks, a sample of parents in the U.S. recruited through Amazon Mechanical Turk completed an online survey to assess parents' knowledge of, attitudes about, and intentions to use ABAs. Participants also rated the importance of a range of ABA functions and provided information about their child's social media use and bullying history. A series of path analyses revealed that the importance parents placed on an app's ability to provide information about their child's cyberbullying risk predicted more positive attitudes toward ABAs and greater perceived usefulness of them. Stronger intentions to use ABAs were predicted by greater cyberbullying concern, greater importance of social recommendations, greater perceived usefulness, more positive attitudes toward the apps, and lower ratings of the importance of ease of use. These findings shed light on the factors predicting parents' intentions to use ABAs and the app features they view as most important. Crucial directions for future research and implications for anti-bullying efforts are discussed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The use of apps in healthcare and medical research is increasing. Apps in healthcare may be beneficial to patients and healthcare professionals, but their use comes with potential risks. How to use apps in clinical care is not standard part of medical training, resulting in a lack of knowledge. As healthcare professionals and their employers can be held accountable for the wrongful use of medical apps, this situation is undesirable. This article addresses the most important European legislation regarding medical apps from the perspective of healthcare providers. METHODS This review provides an overview of current and changing regulations, focusing on apps used in healthcare and medical research. Three topics are discussed: 1) the relevant European legislation and its enforcement, 2) the responsibilities and liability of the medical professional when using these apps, and 3) an overview of the most practical considerations medical professionals should know when using or building a medical app. RESULTS When using and developing medical apps, data privacy must be guaranteed according to the GDPR guidelines. Several international standards make it easier to comply with the GDPR, such as ISO/IEC 27001 and 27002. Medical Devices Regulation was implemented on May 26, 2021, and as a result, medical apps will more often qualify as medical devices. The important guidelines for manufacturers to comply with Medical Devices Regulation are ISO 13485, ISO 17021, ISO 14971 and ISO/TS 82304-2. CONCLUSION The use of medical apps in healthcare and medical research can be beneficial to patients, medical professionals, and society as a whole. This article provides background information on legislation and a comprehensive checklist for anyone wanting to start using or building medical apps.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to describe the characteristics of mobile applications (apps) related to pregnancy in South Korea and evaluate their quality. METHODS We conducted a systematic search for pregnancy-related apps available in Korea in two app stores as of April 29, 2022. The quality of apps was assessed using the Korean translation of the Mobile Application Rating Scale for objective quality with four subdomains (engagement, function, aesthetics, and information) and four items for subjective quality. RESULTS In total, 163 apps were selected and reviewed. Both the objective and subjective quality of the apps were found to be desirable, with scores exceeding 3 out of 5 (range, 34-82). All subdomain scores in the objective quality assessment were also desirable. Among the four objective quality subdomains, aesthetics received the highest scores, followed by information, function, and engagement. In terms of subjective quality, the scores for a comprehensive overall evaluation, continuous use, and recommendation exceeded 3 out of 5, with the exception of payment. Only a small number of apps (n=4, 2.9%) were backed by a reliable authority, such as an expert review. Significant differences were observed in the objective quality of apps across different content categories (F=3.86, p=.003). CONCLUSION Most pregnancy-related apps had desirable levels of objective and subjective quality. However, app content experts seldom provide reviews. It is crucial for nurses to recommend apps to expectant mothers that offer dependable content, regularly updated with the latest information.

Abstract
Background In microsurgical tissue transfer, skin flap transplantation is frequently used to heal the surface of a wound. Effective microcirculation surveillance of the skin flap is crucial. However, with traditional monitoring methods-that is, clinical observation-vascular crisis can still occur, thereby impairing postoperative recovery. A smartphone application is required to assist health care professionals in the standardized collection of flap perfusion parameters for flap management. Methods The Vascular Crisis Prewarning Application was created using a design science research methodology that prioritizes users and problems. The system usability scale was used to assess the application's usability among medical practitioners. The application was used at the clinic from December 2020 to September 2022. The unplanned return to the operating room, time to diagnose vascular crisis, and flap survival rate were compared with and without the application. Results The application consisted of 5 modules: patient addition and basic information entry, flap labeling, flap observation, crisis warning, and case archiving. The average rating for the application's usability among medical practitioners was 97.95 score (SD 2.36). With the application, the time to detect vascular crisis reduced from 26.71 to 16.26 h (P < 0.001), the unplanned return to the operation room increased from 8.18% to 10.24% (P = 0.587), and the flap survival rate went from 94.55% to 99.21% (P = 0.083). Conclusions An easy-to-use flap perfusion monitoring and prewarning application for medical practitioners was produced using a user-centered development method. The application provided a more standardized and accurate platform for data collection in flap management and reduced the time to detect vascular crisis. Larger cohort studies are required in the future to better assess the full potential of the application.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To provide the best scientific evidence available on the effectiveness of therapeutic education programs through digital health in patients with heart failure. DESIGN Systematic review of randomized clinical trials. DATA SOURCES Six databases were included due to their relevance in Health Sciences: PubMed, EMBASE, Scielo, Cochrane, CINAHL, and Web of Science. SELECTION OF STUDIES In English and Spanish, studies carried out between 2018 and 2023 were selected. After evaluating the methodological quality of the studies, the Jadad tool was used to discriminate those that did not meet said quality. In total, 8 articles from 6 different countries were included. DATA EXTRACTION The review and analysis of the documents were carried out by independent pairs. The Cochrane tool for RoB 2 randomized clinical trials was used to assess the risk of bias. RESULTS All the applications had therapeutic education, it was also assessed that they had monitoring, evaluation of signs and symptoms, drug titration, and professional follow-up through the application. CONCLUSION This review reveals the significant impact of therapeutic education in increasing patient knowledge, reducing hospital readmissions, and improving functional status and self-care. This makes digital health a valuable tool to complement nursing care in patients with heart failure.

Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES To evaluate whether or not the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) from a peripheral arterial tonometry (PAT) home sleep apnea test (HSAT) is equivalent to the AHI provided by the mean of one, three, or seven nights from the Withings Sleep Analyzer (WSA) under-mattress device. METHODS We prospectively enrolled patients with suspected OSA in whom a PAT-HSAT was ordered. Eligible patients used the WSA for seven to nine nights. PAT data were scored using the device's intrinsic machine learning algorithms to arrive at the AHI using both 3% and 4% desaturation criteria for hypopnea estimations (PAT3%-AHI and PAT4%-AHI, respectively). These were then compared with the WSA-estimated AHI (WSA-AHI). RESULTS Of 61 patients enrolled, 35 completed the study with valid PAT and WSA data. Of the 35 completers 16 (46%) had at least moderately severe OSA (PAT3%-AHI ≥ 15). The seven-night mean WSA-AHI was 2.13 (95%CI = - 0.88, 5.14) less than the PAT3%-AHI, but 5.64 (95%CI = 2.54, 8.73) greater than the PAT4%-AHI. The accuracy and area under the receiver operating curve (AUC) using the PAT3%-AHI ≥ 15 were 77% and 0.87 and for PAT4%-AHI ≥ 15 were 77% and 0.85, respectively. The one-, three-, or seven-night WSA-AHI were not equivalent to either the 3% or 4% PAT-AHI (equivalency threshold of ± 2.5 using the two one-sided t-test method). CONCLUSIONS The WSA derives estimates of the AHI unobtrusively over many nights, which may prove to be a valuable clinical tool. However, the WSA-AHI over- or underestimates the PAT-AHI in clinical use, and the appropriate use of the WSA in clinical practice will require further evaluation. Abstract
Background Integration of healthcare services for preterm neonates at home and hospital by mobile technology is an economical and convenient intervention, which is being increasingly applied worldwide. We aimed to classify the outcomes of mobile applications tailored to parents of premature infants. Methods This systematic review was conducted by searching the six main databases until May 2021. Mobile applications tailored to parents of premature infants and the reported outcomes of this technology were identified and classified. Quality of screened articles checked by MMAT tool. Results Overall, 10703 articles were retrieved, and after eliminating the duplicated articles, 9 articles were reviewed ultimately. Identified outcomes were categorized into three groups parental, application, and neonatal outcomes. In the parental outcomes, maternal stress/stress coping, parenting self-efficacy, satisfaction, anxiety, partnership advocacy/improved parent-infant relationship, feeling of being safe, reassurance and confidence, increase awareness, as well as discharge preparedness, were identified. In the application outcomes, application usage, ease of use/user-friendly, and usability of the designed application were placed. Finally, the neonatal outcomes include health and clinical items. Conclusion Mobile applications can be useful in prematurity for educating pregnant mothers, managing stress and anxiety, supporting families, and preparing for discharge. Moreover, due to the coronavirus condition, providing remote services for parents is an appropriate solution to reduce the in-person visits to neonatal care centers. Development of tailored apps can promote the neonates' health and reduce their parents' stress.
