Abstract
Background Histological examination of tumor draining lymph nodes (LNs) plays a vital role in cancer staging and prognostication. However, as soon as a LN is classed as metastasis-free, no further investigation will be performed and thus, potentially clinically relevant information detectable in tumor-free LNs is currently not captured. Objective To systematically study and critically assess methods for the analysis of digitized histological LN images described in published research. Methods A systematic search was conducted in several public databases up to December 2023 using relevant search terms. Studies using brightfield light microscopy images of hematoxylin and eosin or immunohistochemically stained LN tissue sections aiming to detect and/or segment LNs, their compartments or metastatic tumor using artificial intelligence (AI) were included. Dataset, AI methodology, cancer type, and study objective were compared between articles. Results A total of 7201 articles were collected and 73 articles remained for detailed analyses after article screening. Of the remaining articles, 86% aimed at LN metastasis identification, 8% aimed at LN compartment segmentation, and remaining focused on LN contouring. Furthermore, 78% of articles used patch classification and 22% used pixel segmentation models for analyses. Five out of six studies (83%) of metastasis-free LNs were performed on publicly unavailable datasets, making quantitative article comparison impossible. Conclusions Multi-scale models mimicking multiple microscopy zooms show promise for computational LN analysis. Large-scale datasets are needed to establish the clinical relevance of analyzing metastasis-free LN in detail. Further research is needed to identify clinically interpretable metrics for LN compartment characterization.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Fraxini cortex, which has been widely used as a traditional Chinese medicine for 2000 years, is made from the dried bark of four plant species: Fraxinus chinensis subsp. rhynchophylla (Hance) A.E.Murray, Fraxinus chinensis Roxb., Fraxinus chinensis subsp. chinensis and Fraxinus stylosa Lingelsh.. In Chinese traditional medicine, it possesses the properties of heat-clearing and dampness-drying, asthma relief and cough suppression, as well as vision improvement. It is utilized for treating bacterial disorders, enteritis, leukorrhea, chronic bronitis, painful red eyes with swelling, lacrimation due to windward exposure, psoriasis, and other diseases or related symptoms. AIM OF THE STUDY Fraxini cortex is abundant in chemical constituents and has garnered significant attention from plant chemists, particularly regarding coumarins, as evidenced by the recently identified three coumarin compounds. Considering the current dearth of systematic reporting on studies pertaining to Fraxini cortex, herein we provide a comprehensive summary of the advancements in phytochemistry, pharmacology, detection methods, and ethnomedicinal applications of Fraxini cortex. MATERIALS AND METHODS We conducted a comprehensive search across online data sources (Web of Science, Public Medicine (PubMed), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), as well as Chinese dissertations) and traditional Chinese medicine classics to gather the necessary literature resources for this review. RESULTS Briefly, The Fraxini cortex yielded a total of 132 phytochemicals, including coumarins, lignans, secoiridoids, phenylethanol glycosides, flavonoids, triterpenoids, and other compounds. Among them, the main active ingredients are coumarins which possess a diverse range of pharmacological activities such as anti-inflammatory effects, anti-tumor properties, prevention of tissue fibrosis and oxidation damage as well as cardioprotective effects. CONCLUSIONS All types of research conducted on Fraxini cortex, particularly in the field of ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, and pharmacology, have been thoroughly reviewed. However, certain traditional applications and pharmacological activities of Fraxini cortex lack scientific evaluation or convincing evidence due to incomplete methodologies and ambiguous results, as well as a lack of clinical data. To validate its pharmacological activity, clinical efficacy, and safety profile, a systematic and comprehensive research evaluation is imperative. As an important traditional Chinese medicine, Fraxini cortex should be further explored to facilitate the development of novel drugs and therapeutics for various diseases. Greater attention should be given to how it can be better utilized.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes is a leading cause of global mortality and morbidity. Nearly 80% of individuals with diabetes live in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where nearly half of those with the condition remain undiagnosed. The majority of known cases have sub-optimal clinical outcomes. Moreover, large populations with impaired glucose tolerance and/or impaired fasting glucose contribute to the rapid increase in type 2 diabetes. Globally, priority should be given to limit the population with diabetes, especially in LMICs, alongside actions to optimise the care of people diagnosed with diabetes. Primary prevention studies in LMICs have generated evidence to show the efficacy and scalability of strategies to fully prevent or delay the development of diabetes in high-risk groups. However, these are mainly limited to certain countries in Asia, particularly China and India. The studies have indicated that prevention policies are effective in populations with a high risk of type 2 diabetes, and they also have long-term benefits, not only for the risk of type 2 diabetes but also for the risk of associated metabolic disorders, such as CVDs. For the effective conduct of national programmes, innovative mechanisms must be implemented, such as the use of information technology, joint efforts of multiple teams implementing similar programmes, and involvement of governmental and non-governmental partnerships. Continuous monitoring and long-term studies are required to assess the utility of these programmes. The effectiveness of such programmes in LMICs has not been proven over the longer term, except in China. Despite the available evidence, the feasibility of prevention strategies for type 2 diabetes in LMICs at population level remains an enigma. There remain challenges in the form of cultural, societal and economic constraints; insufficient infrastructure and healthcare capacity; and the non-fully elucidated natural history and determinants of type 2 diabetes in LMICs.

Abstract
Precision diabetes medicine (PDM) aims to reduce errors in prevention programmes, diagnosis thresholds, prognosis prediction and treatment strategies. However, its advancement and implementation are difficult due to the heterogeneity of complex molecular processes and environmental exposures that influence an individual's disease trajectory. To address this challenge, it is imperative to develop robust screening methods for all areas of PDM. Innovative proteomic technologies, alongside genomics, have proven effective in precision cancer medicine and are showing promise in diabetes research for potential translation. This narrative review highlights how proteomics is well-positioned to help improve PDM. Specifically, a critical assessment of widely adopted affinity-based proteomic technologies in large-scale clinical studies and evidence of the benefits and feasibility of using MS-based plasma proteomics is presented. We also present a case for the use of proteomics to identify predictive protein panels for type 2 diabetes subtyping and the development of clinical prediction models for prevention, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment strategies. Lastly, we discuss the importance of plasma and tissue proteomics and its integration with genomics (proteogenomics) for identifying unique type 2 diabetes intra- and inter-subtype aetiology. We conclude with a call for action formed on advancing proteomics technologies, benchmarking their performance and standardisation across sites, with an emphasis on data sharing and the inclusion of diverse ancestries in large cohort studies. These efforts should foster collaboration with key stakeholders and align with ongoing academic programmes such as the Precision Medicine in Diabetes Initiative consortium.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The complete picture of how the human microbiome interacts with its host is still largely unknown, particularly concerning microorganisms beyond bacteria. Although existing in very low abundance and not directly linked to causing diseases, archaea have been detected in various sites of the human body, including the gastrointestinal tract, oral cavity, skin, eyes, respiratory and urinary systems. But what exactly are these microorganisms? In the early 1990 s, archaea were classified as a distinct domain of life, sharing a more recent common ancestor with eukaryotes than with bacteria. While archaea's presence and potential significance in Dentistry remain under-recognized, there are concerns that they may contribute to oral dysbiosis. However, detecting archaea in oral samples presents challenges, including difficulties in culturing, the selection of DNA extraction methods, primer design, bioinformatic analysis, and databases. DESIGN This is a comprehensive review on the oral archaeome, presenting an in-depth in silico analysis of various primers commonly used for detecting archaea in human body sites. RESULTS Among several primer pairs used for detecting archaea in human samples across the literature, only one specifically designed for detecting methanogenic archaea in stool samples, exhibited exceptional coverage levels for the domain and various archaea phyla. CONCLUSIONS Our in silico analysis underscores the need for designing new primers targeting not only methanogenic archaea but also nanoarchaeal and thaumarchaeota groups to gain a comprehensive understanding of the archaeal oral community. By doing so, researchers can pave the way for further advancements in the field of oral archaeome research.

Abstract
Solid organ transplants (SOT) have evolved into life-saving interventions for end-stage diseases affecting vital organs. Advances in transplantation techniques, donor selection, and immunosuppressive therapies have enhanced outcomes, leading to a growing demand for SOT. Patients with a solid organ transplant are living long enough to develop the same pathologies which are indicated for joint replacement surgery in the general population. SOT patients who undergo a total hip, knee, or shoulder arthroplasty do similarly in the context of clinical outcomes and implant survival when compared to the general population. These immunosuppressed patients tend to have higher complication rates in the short-term following surgery. Prudent management of these patients in the short-term may be necessary, but patients can expect to do well otherwise.

Abstract
Left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) without symptoms, and heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) represent the most common phenotypes of HF in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and are more common than HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), HF with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF) and left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) in these individuals. However, diagnostic criteria for HF have changed over the years, resulting in heterogeneity in the prevalence/incidence rates reported in different studies. We aimed to give an overview of the diagnosis and epidemiology of HF in type 2 diabetes, using both a narrative and systematic review approach; we focus narratively on diagnosing (using the 2021 European Society of Cardiology [ESC] guidelines) and screening for HF in type 2 diabetes. We performed an updated (2016-October 2022) systematic review and meta-analysis of studies reporting the prevalence and incidence of HF subtypes in adults ≥18 years with type 2 diabetes, using echocardiographic data. Embase and MEDLINE databases were searched and data were assessed using random-effects meta-analyses, with findings presented as forest plots. From the 5015 studies found, 209 were screened using the full-text article. In total, 57 studies were included, together with 29 studies that were identified in a prior meta-analysis; these studies reported on the prevalence of LVSD (n=25 studies, 24,460 individuals), LVDD (n=65 studies, 25,729 individuals), HFrEF (n=4 studies, 4090 individuals), HFmrEF (n=2 studies, 2442 individuals) and/or HFpEF (n=8 studies, 5292 individuals), and on HF incidence (n=7 studies, 17,935 individuals). Using Hoy et al's risk-of-bias tool, we found that the studies included generally had a high risk of bias. They showed a prevalence of 43% (95% CI 37%, 50%) for LVDD, 17% (95% CI 7%, 35%) for HFpEF, 6% (95% CI 3%, 10%) for LVSD, 7% (95% CI 3%, 15%) for HFrEF, and 12% (95% CI 7%, 22%) for HFmrEF. For LVDD, grade I was found to be most prevalent. Additionally, we reported a higher incidence rate of HFpEF (7% [95% CI 4%, 11%]) than HFrEF 4% [95% CI 3%, 7%]). The evidence is limited by the heterogeneity of the diagnostic criteria over the years. The systematic section of this review provides new insights on the prevalence/incidence of HF in type 2 diabetes, unveiling a large pre-clinical target group with LVDD/HFpEF in which disease progression could be halted by early recognition and treatment.Registration PROSPERO ID CRD42022368035.

Abstract
Periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs) are a devastating complication of joint arthroplasty surgeries that are often complicated by biofilm formation. The development of biofilms makes PJI treatment challenging as they create a barrier against antibiotics and host immune responses. This review article provides an overview of the current understanding of biofilm formation, factors that contribute to their production, and the most common organisms involved in this process. This article focuses on the identification of biofilms, as well as current methodologies and emerging therapies in the management of biofilms in PJI.

Abstract
PURPOSE To examine the current evidence on breast lymphedema (BL) diagnosis and treatment after breast-conserving surgery, identify gaps in the literature, and propose future research directions. METHODS A comprehensive literature review was conducted using Ovid, PubMed, and Cochrane, including studies published between 2000 and 2023. References were reviewed manually for eligible studies. Inclusion criteria were as follows: patients who underwent breast conserving treatment (surgery ± radiation) for breast cancer, goals of the paper included analyzing or reviewing BL measurement with ultrasound or tissue dielectric constant, or BL treatment. Twenty-seven manuscripts were included in the review. RESULTS There is variation in incidence, time course, and risk factors for BL. Risk factors for BL included breast size, primary and axillary surgery extent, radiation, and chemotherapy but require further investigation. Diagnostic methods for BL currently rely on patient report and lack standardized criteria. Tissue dielectric constant (TDC) and ultrasound (US) emerged as promising ambulatory BL assessment tools; however, diagnostic thresholds and validation studies with ICG lymphography are needed to establish clinical utility. The evidence base for treatment of BL is weak, lacking high-quality studies. CONCLUSION The natural history of BL is not well defined. TDC and US show promise as ambulatory assessment tools for BL; however, further validation with lymphatic imaging is required. BL treatment is not established in the literature. Longitudinal, prospective studies including pre-radiation measurements and validating with lymphatic imaging are required. These data will inform screening, diagnostic criteria, and evidence-based treatment parameters for patients with BL after breast-conserving surgery and radiation.

Abstract
Incorporation of three-dimensional (3D) printing technology into the field of spinal surgery is on the rise. A bibliometric analysis of the current topic was carried out to elaborate the trend and to navigate future research. A Scopus database search was conducted with keywords related to 3D printing, spine, and surgery. The final 792 articles were extracted and further analyzed with VOSviewer 1.6.19 and Biblioshiny. The first published article was in 2002. A notable increase in articles in 2014 might be attributable to the availability of cheaper 3D printers which rose significantly on a global scale in 2011. China leads in terms of published research on 3D printing in spinal surgery, followed by the US, Australia, and India. The author's keyword co-occurrence analysis reveals 8 theme clusters, including preoperative and intraoperative measures, biomodelling, spinal neoplasms, biomechanics of 3D-printed materials, degenerative spinal diseases, minimally invasive surgery, and bioprinting. The top 15 of the most recently cited keywords are listed to provide future researchers to produce impactful articles. Two strategic diagrams of 2 periods (2002-2018 and 2018-2023) show the theme's evolution. We found 6 consistent themes in keyword co-occurrence analysis and the strategic diagram analysis, that are promising subjects for future research. Overall, this bibliographic study indicates the expanding importance of 3D printing in spinal surgery and suggests several critical themes and impactful keywords for future researchers.

Abstract
Sjögren's disease (SjD) is a systemic autoimmune exocrinopathy with key features of dryness, pain, and fatigue. SjD can affect any organ system with a variety of presentations across individuals. This heterogeneity is one of the major barriers for developing effective disease modifying treatments. Defining core disease domains comprising both specific clinical features and incorporating the patient experience is a critical first step to define this complex disease. The OMERACT SjD Working Group held its first international collaborative hybrid meeting in 2023, applying the OMERACT 2.2 filter toward identification of core domains. We accomplished our first goal, a scoping literature review that was presented at the Special Interest Group held in May 2023. Building on the domains identified in the scoping review, we uniquely deployed multidisciplinary experts as part of our collaborative team to generate a provisional domain list that captures SjD heterogeneity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This systematic review on generative adversarial network (GAN) architectures for dental image analysis provides a comprehensive overview to readers regarding current GAN trends in dental imagery and potential future applications. METHODS Electronic databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Embase, and Cochrane Library) were searched to identify studies involving GANs for dental image analysis. Eighteen full-text articles describing the applications of GANs in dental imagery were reviewed. Risk of bias and applicability concerns were assessed using the QUADAS-2 tool. RESULTS GANs were used for various imaging modalities, including two-dimensional and three-dimensional images. In dental imaging, GANs were utilized for tasks such as artifact reduction, denoising, and super-resolution, domain transfer, image generation for augmentation, outcome prediction, and identification. The generated images were incorporated into tasks such as landmark detection, object detection and classification. Because of heterogeneity among the studies, a meta-analysis could not be conducted. Most studies (72%) had a low risk of bias in all four domains. However, only three (17%) studies had a low risk of applicability concerns. CONCLUSIONS This extensive analysis of GANs in dental imaging highlighted their broad application potential within the dental field. Future studies should address limitations related to the stability, repeatability, and overall interpretability of GAN architectures. By overcoming these challenges, the applicability of GANs in dentistry can be enhanced, ultimately benefiting the dental field in its use of GANs and artificial intelligence.

Abstract
Objective Cerebral vasospasm and the resultant delayed cerebral infarction is a significant source of mortality following aneurysmal SAH. Vasospasm is currently detected using invasive or expensive imaging at regular intervals in patients following SAH, thus posing a risk of complications following the procedure and financial burden on these patients. Currently, there is no blood-based test to detect vasospasm. Methods PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase databases were systematically searched to retrieve studies related to cerebral vasospasm, aneurysm rupture, and biomarkers. The study search dated from 1997 to 2022. Data from eligible studies was extracted and then summarized. Results Out of the 632 citations screened, only 217 abstracts were selected for further review. Out of those, only 59 full text articles met eligibility and another 13 were excluded. Conclusions We summarize the current literature on the mechanism of cerebral vasospasm and delayed cerebral ischemia, specifically studies relating to inflammation, and provide a rationale and commentary on a hypothetical future bloodbased test to detect vasospasm. Efforts should be focused on clinical-translational approaches to create such a test to improve treatment timing and prediction of vasospasm to reduce the incidence of delayed cerebral infarction.

Abstract
The concept of type 2 diabetes remission is evolving rapidly, and gaining wide public and professional interest, following demonstration that with substantial intentional weight loss almost nine in ten people with type 2 diabetes can reduce their HbA1c level below the diagnostic criterion (48 mmol/mol [6.5%]) without glucose-lowering medications, and improve all features of the metabolic syndrome. Pursuing nomoglycaemia with older drugs was dangerous because of the risk of side effects and hypoglycaemia, so the conventional treatment target was an HbA1c concentration of 53 mmol/mol (7%), meaning that diabetes was still present and allowing disease progression. Newer agents may achieve a normal HbA1c safely and, by analogy with treatments that send cancers or inflammatory diseases into remission, this might also be considered remission. However, although modern glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists and related medications are highly effective for weight loss and glycaemic improvement, and generally safe, many people do not want to take drugs indefinitely, and their cost means that they are not available across much of the world. Therefore, there are strong reasons to explore and research dietary approaches for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. All interventions that achieve sustained weight loss of >10-15 kg improve HbA1c, potentially resulting in remission if sufficient beta cell capacity can be preserved or restored, which occurs with loss of the ectopic fat in liver and pancreas that is found with type 2 diabetes. Remission is most likely with type 2 diabetes of short duration, lower HbA1c and a low requirement for glucose-lowering medications. Relapse is likely with weight regain and among those with a poor beta cell reserve. On current evidence, effective weight management should be provided to all people with type 2 diabetes as soon as possible after diagnosis (or even earlier, at the stage of prediabetes, defined in Europe, Australasia, Canada [and most of the world] as ≥42 and <48 mmol/mol [≥6.0 and <6.5%], and in the USA as HbA1c ≥39 and <48 mmol/mol [≥5.7 and <6.5%]). Raising awareness among people with type 2 diabetes and their healthcare providers that remission is possible will enable earlier intervention. Weight loss of >10 kg and remission lasting 1-2 years may also delay vascular complications, although more evidence is needed. The greatest challenge for research is to improve long-term weight loss maintenance, defining cost-effective approaches tailored to the preferences and needs of people living with type 2 diabetes.

Abstract
Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare neutrophilic dermatosis that results in painful cutaneous ulcers and is frequently associated with underlying hematologic disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, or other autoimmune disorders. Pathogenesis involves an imbalance between proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory mediators, leading to tissue damage from neutrophils. First-line treatment options with the greatest evidence include systemic corticosteroids, cyclosporine, and tumor necrosis factor alpha inhibitors. Other steroid-sparing therapies such as dapsone, mycophenolate mofetil, intravenous immunoglobulin, and targeted biologic or small molecule inhibitors also have evidence supporting their use. Wound care and management of underlying associated disorders are critical parts of the treatment regimen.

Abstract
Giant cell myocarditis (GCM) is a rare but fatal disease that can lead to cardiac failure. Survival with a cardiac standstill requires mechanical circulatory support or a biventricular assist device (BiVAD) and prolonged survival is extremely rare. Drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome (DIHS) is a severe cutaneous adverse reaction. Some cases of DIHS are reportedly associated with the onset of GCM. We present a case of a 28-year-old woman who developed GCM during steroid tapering after DIHS. She went into continuous cardiac standstill but survived for 74 days under BiVAD support. Our case is noteworthy because the histopathologic specimens obtained on three occasions contributed to the diagnosis of this particular condition over time. We also reviewed previous literature on concomitant cases of GCM and DIHS. We found that two are potentially associated and most cases of GCM occur within 3 months of DIHS during steroid tapering.

Abstract
Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a degenerative disease, caused by genetic mutations that lead to a loss in photoreceptors. For research on RP, rd10 mice, which carry mutations in the phosphodiesterase (PDE) gene, exhibit degenerative patterns comparable to those of patients with RP, making them an ideal model for investigating potential treatments. Although numerous studies have reported the potential of biochemical drugs, gene correction, and stem cell transplantation in decelerating rd10 retinal degeneration, a comprehensive review of these studies has yet to be conducted. Therefore, here, a comparative analysis of rd10 mouse treatment research over the past decade was performed. Our findings suggest that biochemical drugs capable of inhibiting the inflammatory response may be promising therapeutics. Additionally, significant progress has been made in the field of gene therapy; nevertheless, challenges such as strict delivery requirements, bystander editing, and off-target effects still need to be resolved. Nevertheless, secretory function is the only unequivocal protective effect of stem cell transplantation. In summary, this review presents a comprehensive analysis and synthesis of the treatment approaches employing rd10 mice as experimental subjects, describing a clear pathway for future RP treatment research and identifies potential clinical interventions.

Abstract
Most ischemic stroke (IS) patients go untreated due to limited treatment windows, restrictive eligibility criteria, and poor availability of current clinical therapies. Neuroprotective treatments targeting protracted neurodegeneration are needed yet keep failing in clinical trials. Over half of IS patients are female, and the scarcity of neuroprotective studies using female animals hinders translational success. This pilot review and meta-analysis assessed the relationship between the risk of bias and efficacy of studies testing post-ischemic neuroprotective therapies using female rodent models of IS. We carried out a systematic search of the PubMed database for studies published between 1999 and May 2022, used the CAMARADES checklist to evaluate study quality, and extracted data pertaining to lesion volume and behavioral assessment. We found that 34 studies met our inclusion criteria, with pooled effect sizes depicting a significant treatment effect. However, researchers used mostly healthy young females, administered therapies within short time windows, ignored hormonal influences, and did not assess long-term outcomes. Interestingly, studies failing to report factors impacting internal validity, such as blinding and random allocation, had inflated effect sizes or did not reach statistical significance. There was also a relationship between low study quality and larger effect sizes for functional outcome, stressing the need to follow the existing translational design, reporting, and data analysis guidelines. In this review, we cover previous recommendations and offer our own in hopes that rigorous and meticulous research using female animal models of IS will increase our chances of successful bench-to-bedside translation.

Abstract
India, with a population of 1.4 billion, faces health equity challenges due to inaccessible public health systems, particularly in rural areas. Modern technologies like the internet and mobile phones are being used to bridge this gap, enhancing health equity by disseminating vital health information. Health Technology Assessment (HTA) evaluates these technologies, influencing healthcare policy and improving health outcomes. Key strategies include digital health hubs, mobile health units, public-private partnerships, and digital tools for community health workers. To scale these interventions, capacity building, infrastructure development, community engagement, and monitoring are required. Policymakers are urged to prioritize investments in health technologies based on evidence, considering cost-effectiveness, health outcomes, and health equity. Addressing data privacy and security is crucial. Future research should focus on technology-based interventions for maternal and child health.

Abstract
Suppression of pathogenic immune responses is a major goal in the prevention and treatment of type 1 diabetes. Adoptive cell therapy using regulatory T cells (Tregs), a naturally suppressive immune subset that is often dysfunctional in type 1 diabetes, is a promising approach to achieving localised and specific immune suppression in the pancreas or site of islet transplant. However, clinical trials testing administration of polyclonal Tregs in recent-onset type 1 diabetes have observed limited efficacy despite an excellent safety profile. Several barriers to efficacy have been identified, including lack of antigen specificity, low cell persistence post-administration and difficulty in generating sufficient cell numbers. Fortunately, the emergence of advanced gene editing techniques has opened the door to new strategies to engineer Tregs with improved specificity and function. These strategies include the engineering of FOXP3 expression to produce a larger source of suppressive cells for infusion, expressing T cell receptors or chimeric antigen receptors to generate antigen-specific Tregs and improving Treg survival by targeting cytokine pathways. Although these approaches are being applied in a variety of autoimmune and transplant contexts, type 1 diabetes presents unique opportunities and challenges for the genetic engineering of Tregs for adoptive cell therapy. Here we discuss the role of Tregs in type 1 diabetes pathogenesis and the application of Treg engineering in the context of type 1 diabetes.

Abstract
Sirtuins (SIRTs) represent a class of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+)-dependent protein deacetylases that exert a crucial role in cellular signal transduction and various biological processes. The mammalian sirtuins family encompasses SIRT1 to SIRT7, exhibiting therapeutic potential in counteracting cellular aging, modulating metabolism, responding to oxidative stress, inhibiting tumors, and improving cellular microenvironment. These enzymes are intricately linked to the occurrence and treatment of diverse pathological conditions, including cancer, autoimmune diseases, and cardiovascular disorders. Given the significance of histone modification in gene expression and chromatin structure, maintaining the equilibrium of the sirtuins family is imperative for disease prevention and health restoration. Mounting evidence suggests that modulators of SIRTs play a crucial role in treating various diseases and maintaining physiological balance. This review delves into the molecular structure and regulatory functions of the sirtuins family, reviews the classification and historical evolution of SIRTs modulators, offers a systematic overview of existing SIRTs modulation strategies, and elucidates the regulatory mechanisms of SIRTs modulators (agonists and inhibitors) and their clinical applications. The article concludes by summarizing the challenges encountered in SIRTs modulator research and offering insights into future research directions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The objective was to discuss the research on zirconia published in the past 15 years to help the dental materials community understand the key properties of the types of zirconia and their clinical applications. METHODS A literature search was performed in May/2023 using Web of Science Core Collection with the term "dental zirconia". The search returned 5102 articles, which were categorized into 31 groups according to the research topic. RESULTS The current approach to improving the translucency of zirconia is to decrease the alumina content while increasing the yttria content. The resulting materials (4Y-, 5Y-, and above 5 mol% PSZs) may contain more than 50% of cubic phase, with a decrease in mechanical properties. The market trend for zirconia is the production of CAD/CAM disks containing more fracture resistant 3Y-TZP at the bottom layers and more translucent 5Y-PSZ at the top. Although flaws located between layers in multilayered blocks might represent a problem, newer generations of zirconia layered blocks appear to have solved this problem with novel powder compaction technology. Significant advancements in zirconia processing technologies have been made, but there is still plenty of room for improvement, especially in the fields of high-speed sintering and additive manufacturing. SIGNIFICANCE The wide range of zirconia materials currently available in the market may cause confusion in materials selection. It is therefore imperative for dental clinicians and laboratory technicians to get the needed knowledge on zirconia material science, to follow manufacturers' instructions, and to optimize the design of the prosthetic restoration with a good understanding where to reinforce the structure with a tough and strong zirconia.

Abstract
The construction of materials with rapid electron transfer is considered an effective method for enhancing electrochemical activity in electroanalysis. It has been widely demonstrated that valence changes in transition metal ions can promote electron transfer and thus increase electrochemical activity. Recently, valence-variable transition metal oxides (TMOs) have shown popular application in electrochemical analysis by using their abundant valence state changes to accelerate electron transfer during electrochemical detection. In this review, we summarize recent research advances in valence changes of TMOs and their application in electrochemical analysis. This includes the definition and mechanism of valence change, the association of valence changes with electronic structure, and their applications in electrochemical detection, along with the use of density functional theory (DFT) to simulate the process of electron transfer during valence changes. Finally, the challenges and opportunities for developing and applying valence changes in electrochemical analysis are also identified.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The antiemetic effectiveness of olanzapine, as a prophylactic off-label antiemetic drug, for Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV) is unknown. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, the authors evaluate the efficacy and side effects of olanzapine as a prophylactic antiemetic in adult patients who undergo general anesthesia and assess adverse effects. METHODS A systematic search was done on electronic bibliographic databases in July 2023. Randomized controlled trials of olanzapine as a prophylactic antiemetic for PONV in adults who underwent general anesthesia were included. The authors excluded non-RCTs and retracted studies. The authors set no date of publication or language limits. The outcomes were the incidence of PONV within 24 h postoperatively and the safety of olanzapine. The risk of bias was assessed according to the tool suggested by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. RESULTS Meta-analysis included 446 adult patients. Olanzapine reduced on average 38 % the incidence of PONV. The estimated risk ratio (95 % CI) of olanzapine versus control was 0.62 (0.42-0.90), p = 0.010, I2 = 67 %. In the subgroup meta-analysis, doses of olanzapine (10 mg) reduced on average 49 % of the incidence of PONV (RR = 0.51 [0.34-0.77], p = 0.001, I2 = 31 %). CONCLUSIONS This systematic review with meta-analysis indicated that olanzapine as a prophylactic antiemetic alone or combined with other antiemetic agents reduced the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting. However, this conclusion must be presented with some degree of uncertainty due to the small number of studies included. There was a lack of any evidence to draw conclusions on side effects.

Abstract
Tumors located in the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses and the skull base comprise a wide range of histologic subtypes. Among them, neuroendocrine and undifferentiated tumors are rare but noteworthy, because of their distinctive features, aggressive nature, and diagnostic complexities. A literature search was conducted in the PubMed/MEDLINE and the Scopus databases from 2019 until inception. The keywords "neuroendocrine", "undifferentiated", "nose", "sinonasal", "paranasal", "skull base" were used. Thirty-eight articles referring to neuroendocrine and undifferentiated tumors of the nose, paranasal sinuses and the skull base were finally included and analyzed. Neuroendocrine and undifferentiated tumors of the nose, paranasal sinuses and the skull base are infrequent malignancies, most commonly affecting middle-aged men. They usually present with non-specific symptoms, even though ocular or neurologic manifestations may occur. Prognosis is generally poor; however, novel targeted and immunological therapies have shown promising results. Sinonasal Neuroendocrine Carcinomas (SNECs) carry distinct histological and immunohistochemical features. Management consists of surgical resection coupled with systematic therapy. Sinonasal Undifferentiated Carcinomas (SNUCs) lack specific squamous or glandular features. They typically stain positive for pancytokeratin and INI1 antibody. Treatment includes induction chemotherapy, followed by a combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Olfactory neuroblastomas (ONBs) have neuroepithelial or neuroblastic features. They show diffuse positivity for various markers, including synaptophysin, chromogranin, and neuron-specific enolase (NSE). Surgical resection plus radiotherapy is considered the treatment of choice. In conclusion, neuroendocrine and undifferentiated tumors arising from the nose, paranasal sinuses and the skull base represent a unique group of malignancies. A thorough understanding of their clinical features, molecular changes, diagnostic approaches, treatment modalities, and prognostic factors is critical for providing optimal patient care. Still, continued research efforts and multidisciplinary collaboration are warranted, in order to improve outcomes for patients diagnosed with these rare and aggressive tumors.

Abstract
Abrus precatorius is an herbaceous, flowering plant that is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. Its toxic component, known as abrin, is classified as one of the potentially significant biological warfare agents and bioterrorism tools due to its high toxicity. Abrin poisoning can be utilized to cause accidents, suicides, and homicides, which necessitates attention from clinicians and forensic scientists. Although a few studies have recently identified the toxicological and pharmacological mechanisms of abrin, the exact mechanism remains unclear. Furthermore, the clinical symptoms and pathological changes induced by abrin poisoning have not been fully characterized, and there is a lack of standardized methods for jkjl; 'sdfkidentifying biological samples of the toxin. Therefore, there is an urgent need for further toxicopathologic studies and the development of detection methods for abrin in the field of forensic medicine. This review provides an overview of the clinical symptoms, pathological changes, metabolic changes, toxicologic mechanisms, and detection methods of abrin poisoning from the perspective of forensic toxicology. Additionally, the evidence on abrin in the field of forensic toxicology and forensic pathology is discussed. Overall, this review serves as a reference for understanding the toxicological mechanism of abrin, highlighting the clinical applications of the toxin, and aiding in the diagnosis and forensic identification of toxin poisoning.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Kimura's disease (KD) is a rare chronic inflammatory disorder characterised by painless, deep subcutaneous nodules that most commonly affect the head and neck region of Asian men. Due to high relapse rates and side effects of current therapies, the treatment of KD is challenging. OBJECTIVES To present a case of KD that was successfully treated with dupilumab and to review the literature with a focus on the evaluation of the efficacy and safety of dupilumab in KD. METHODS A review of the available literature on the treatment of KD with dupilumab was performed and a new case was analyzed. To gain further insight into this promising therapy, literature review of 8 articles published between January 2016 and January 2024 were included in this study using the PubMed database. RESULTS Our patient with KD was successfully treated with dupilumab 300 mg every 2 weeks, at an initial dose of 600 mg. The treatment was well tolerated. In the past, only nine patients with KD treated with dupilumab have been reported and reviewed, half of whom had failed prior treatment. All patients achieved significant efficacy after treatment with dupilumab, with no relapses during an average follow-up of 10.4 months (ranged from 4 to 16 months). CONCLUSION Dupilumab may be an emerging alternative treatment option for KD patients. Larger randomized controlled studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Abstract
Forensic toolmark examiners have been comparing features observed in toolmarks to help determine their source for over a century. However, in the past decade, the holistic process of comparing toolmarks and presenting findings in court have faced intense scrutiny. This paper provides a summary of the voiced criticisms, primarily concerning the scientific reliability and validity of the comparison methods employed by examiners and the conclusions they testify to. The focus of this review is specifically on the examination of striated toolmarks. We assess the comparison methods and reporting practices currently in use, while also delving deeper into research aligned with current recommendations, such as PCAST (The President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology). Throughout the review, we examine both the strengths and weaknesses of existing practices, aiming to assist practitioners in identifying key research needs and addressing the concerns raised by critics. By doing so, we seek to enhance the credibility and effectiveness of toolmark analysis in the field of forensic science.

Abstract
There is shortage of organs, including kidneys, worldwide. Along with deceased kidney transplantation, there is a significant rise in live kidney donation. The prevalence of prediabetes (PD), including impaired fasting glucose and impaired glucose tolerance, is on the rise across the globe. Transplant teams frequently come across prediabetic kidney donors for evaluation. Prediabetics are at risk of diabetes, chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular events, stroke, neuropathy, retinopathy, dementia, depression and nonalcoholic liver disease along with increased risk of all-cause mortality. Unfortunately, most of the studies done in prediabetic kidney donors are retrospective in nature and have a short follow up period. There is lack of prospective long-term studies to know about the real risk of complications after donation. Furthermore, there are variations in recommendations from various guidelines across the globe for donations in prediabetics, leading to more confusion among clinicians. This increases the responsibility of transplant teams to take appropriate decisions in the best interest of both donors and recipients. This review focuses on pathophysiological changes of PD in kidneys, potential complications of PD, other risk factors for development of type 2 diabetes, a review of guidelines for kidney donation, the potential role of diabetes risk score and calculator in kidney donors and the way forward for the evaluation and selection of prediabetic kidney donors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The health impacts of the rapid transition to the use of electric vehicles are largely unexplored. We completed a scoping review to assess the state of the evidence on use of battery electric and hybrid electric vehicles and health. METHODS We conducted a literature search of MEDLINE, Embase, Global Health, CINAHL, Scopus, and Environmental Science Collection databases for articles published January 1990 to January 2024. We included articles if they presented observed or modeled data on the association between battery electric or hybrid electric cars, trucks, or buses and health-related outcomes. We abstracted data and summarized results. RESULTS Out of 897 reviewed articles, 52 met our inclusion criteria. The majority of included articles examined transitions to the use of electric vehicles (n = 49, 94%), with fewer studies examining hybrid electric vehicles (n = 11, 21%) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (n = 8, 15%). The most common outcomes examined were premature death (n = 41, 79%) and monetized health outcomes such as medical expenditures (n = 33, 63%). We identified only one observational study on the impact of electric vehicles on health; all other studies reported modeled data. Almost every study (n = 51, 98%) reported some evidence of a positive health impact of transitioning to electric or hybrid electric vehicles, although magnitudes of association varied. There was a paucity of information on the environmental justice implications of vehicle transitions. CONCLUSIONS The results of the current literature on electric vehicles and health suggest an overall positive health impact of transitioning to electric vehicles. Additional observational studies would help expand our understanding of the real-world health effects of electric vehicles. Future research focused on the environmental justice implications of vehicle fleet transitions could provide additional information about the extent to which the health benefits occur equitably across populations.

Abstract
This study aims to contribute to the promising field of alkali-activated materials (AAM) used in 3D printing for construction. Presented as a comprehensive review, the research provides valuable insights for researchers within and beyond the field. The study focuses on identifying prevalent research trends and accessing pertinent information on materials, methodologies, and parameters of interest. The study commenced with a bibliometric analysis of 55 carefully selected publications, followed by an in-depth review of these articles categorized into extrusion-based and powder-based systems. Emphasis was placed on the materials used, methodologies employed, and key findings from these studies. The bibliometric analysis unveiled prevalent keywords, their relevance in the field, highly cited articles, and collaborative networks among researchers. The most influential countries in terms of publications are Australia, China, and Singapore. The review highlighted commonly used materials and their potential impacts on large-scale applications of AAM, exploring how various precursors, activators, additives, aggregates, and reinforcements shape the properties of printed AAM, featuring innovative approaches with alternative materials. The methodologies employed in these studies and trends in characterization were outlined, due to the absence of standardized tests for materials in 3D printing applications. The study emphasized how material properties vary concerning production processes, printing parameters, curing methods, and post-treatment, outlining advancements in material characterization necessary for achieving a printable mix design. Through the analysis of these 55 articles, key scientific challenges and hurdles in large-scale applications were identified, suggesting potential focal points for further studies. In summary, AAMs exhibit substantial uniqueness and complexity due to their diverse material composition, resulting in varying properties in both fresh and hardened states. However, this diversity also signifies the adaptability of AAMs to diverse equipment, construction techniques, and desired specifications, showcasing their potential to revolutionize traditional construction by integrating technology and sustainability.

Abstract
Vibration Analysis (VA) is the most commonly used technique in predictive maintenance. It allows the diagnosis of faults, especially those in the early stages. The use of VA is important for maintenance costs and downtime savings, making decisions about repair and total replacement. The method has been applied in many industries and proven to be effective. It is applicable to rotating, non-rotating equipment, continuous processes or even construction structure. In this paper, vibration analysis fundamentals as well as many studies on the method's application are reviewed. The purpose is to give an overview of how vibration analysis is used in many industries including petroleum to show its potential in petroleum industry. VA has been used in many areas from transportation, refinery to drilling and production. However, there are still rooms for improvement and implementation. One potential application is detecting faults in Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) system. ESP is located downhole making it susceptible to faults and defects that could be difficult to detect using conventional methods. These faults and defects could lead to reduced pump performance or even complete failure that require replacement. Thus, it is important to monitor and analyze vibration of ESP components, specifically pump and motor. Different studies on the topic are also reviewed and discussed. Some studies have been conducted showing that analyzing ESP vibration data helps predict early problems and identifying the causes. Vibration data were also used in principal component analysis models to predict and identify problems as presented in some works. However, principal component analysis could discharge the data models to be unable to correctly predict and determine the faults. VA is a practical technique to monitor and diagnose machine's health. It is important to research VA further and apply it more in petroleum industry, especially in production system. Applications of VA could increase machine's lifespan, reduce maintenance cost and would be useful in optimization.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) is a catastrophic public health problem for young adults (YAs) and their families. While medication for OUD (MOUD) is safe, effective, and recognized as the standard of care, its' uptake and success have been limited in YAs compared to older adults. METHODS This narrative review summarizes the existing literature and highlights select studies regarding barriers to YA MOUD, potential explanations for those barriers, and strategies to overcome them. RESULTS Barriers are prominent along the entire cascade of care, including: treatment engagement and entry, MOUD initiation, and MOUD retention. Hypothesized explanations for barriers include: developmental vulnerability, inadequate treatment system capacity, stigma against MOUD, among others. Interventions to address barriers include: promotion of family involvement, increasing provider capacity, integration of MOUD into primary care, assertive outreach, and others. CONCLUSIONS Integrating an adapted version of family coaching from the Community Reinforcement Approach and Family Training (CRAFT) and other models into YA MOUD treatment serves as an example of an emerging novel practice that holds promise for broadening the funnel of engagement in treatment and initiation of MOUD, and enhancing treatment outcomes. This and other developmentally-informed approaches should be evaluated as part of a high-priority clinical and research agenda for improving OUD treatment for YAs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This scoping review explores the risk and management of traumatic injuries to the inferior alveolar and lingual nerves during mandibular dental procedures. Emphasizing the significance of diagnostic tools, the review amalgamates existing knowledge to offer a comprehensive overview. MATERIALS AND METHODS A literature search across PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library informed the analysis. RESULTS Traumatic injuries often lead to hypo-/anesthesia and neuropathic pain, impacting individuals psychologically and socially. Diagnosis involves thorough anamnesis, clinical-neurological evaluations, and radiographic imaging. Severity varies, allowing for conservative or surgical interventions. Immediate action is recommended for reversible causes, while surgical therapies like decompression, readaptation, or reconstruction yield favorable outcomes. Conservative management, utilizing topical anesthesia, capsaicin, and systemic medications (tricyclic antidepressants, antipsychotics, and serotonin-norepinephrine-reuptake-inhibitors), proves effective for neuropathic pain. CONCLUSIONS Traumatic nerve injuries, though common in dental surgery, often go unrecorded. Despite lacking a definitive diagnostic gold standard, a meticulous examination of the injury and subsequent impairments is crucial. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Tailoring treatment to each case's characteristics is essential, recognizing the absence of a universal solution. This approach aims to optimize outcomes, restore functionality, and improve the quality of life for affected individuals.

Abstract
Theta burst stimulation (TBS) is a noninvasive brain stimulation technique that can be used to modulate neural networks underlying psychiatric and neurological disorders. TBS can be delivered intermittently or continuously. The conventional intermittent TBS protocol is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat otherwise treatment-resistant depression, but the 6-week duration limits the applicability of this therapy. Accelerated TBS protocols present an opportunity to deliver higher pulse doses in shorter periods of time, thus resulting in faster and potentially more clinically effective treatment. However, the acceleration of TBS delivery raises questions regarding the relative safety, efficacy, and durability compared with conventional TBS protocols. In this review paper, we present the data from accelerated TBS trials to date that support the safety and effectiveness of accelerated protocols while acknowledging the need for more durability data. We discuss the stimulation parameters that seem to be important for the efficacy of accelerated TBS protocols and possible avenues for further optimization.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Precision medicine prioritizes characterization of individual patient parameters to optimize care and this review evaluates measurement-based care (MBC) as a strategy for doing so in the treatment of substance use disorders (SUD). Measurement-based care refers to the systematic use of validated assessments to inform diagnosis and treatment planning, with varying frequency of assessments. Despite the seemingly obvious grounds for the use of MBC in treating SUD, systematic implementation to date has been limited. Thus, the goal of this review is to evaluate efforts to date and to stimulate greater consideration of MBC models in addictions programs. RECENT FINDINGS Data from two published randomized controlled trials and findings from pragmatic clinical research highlight the potential utility of MBC in the SUD treatment settings. Despite these findings, the existing literature indicates the high need for larger-scale clinical trials and quality improvement programs. Potential barriers to the implementation of MBC for SUD are outlined at the patient, provider, organization, and system levels, as well as the challenges associated with the use of MBC programs for clinical research. Critical thinking considerations and risk mitigation strategies are offered toward advancing MBC for SUD beyond the current nascent state. Collectively, the existing data confirm that MBC is a suitable and promising strategy for applying a precision medicine approach in SUD treatment, warranting further implementation efforts and scientific inquiry.

Abstract
Major Depressive Disorder continues to remain one of the most prevalent psychiatric diseases globally. Despite multiple trials of conventional therapies, a subset of patients fail to have adequate benefit to treatment. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a promising treatment in this difficult to treat population and has shown strong antidepressant effects across multiple cohorts. Nearly two decades of work have provided insights into the potential for chronic focal stimulation in precise brain targets to modulate pathological brain circuits that are implicated in the pathogenesis of depression. In this paper we review the rationale that prompted the selection of various brain targets for DBS, their subsequent clinical outcomes and common adverse events reported. We additionally discuss some of the pitfalls and challenges that have prevented more widespread adoption of this technology as well as future directions that have shown promise in improving therapeutic efficacy of DBS in the treatment of depression.

Abstract
The rapid population growth in Africa is associated with an increasing demand for livestock products which in turn can lead to antimicrobial use. Antimicrobial usage in animals contributes to the emergence and selection of resistant bacteria which constitutes a serious public health threat. This study aims to review and summarize the available information on highest priority critically important antimicrobials (HPCIAs) resistance in livestock production in Africa. This work will help to inform future policies for controlling antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the food production chain. A scoping review was conducted according to the Cochrane handbook and following PRISMA 2020 guidelines for reporting. Primary research studies published after 1999 and reporting resistance of Escherichia coli, Enterococcus spp, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella spp, and Campylobacter spp to HPCIAs in poultry, cattle, pigs, goats, and sheep in Africa were searched in four databases. A total of 312 articles were included in the review. The majority of the studies (40.7) were conducted in North African countries. More than 49.0% of included studies involved poultry and 26.2% cattle. Cephalosporins and quinolones were the most studied antimicrobial classes. Of the bacteria investigated in the current review, E. coli (41.7%) and Salmonella spp (24.9%) represented the most commonly studied. High levels of resistance against erythromycin in E. coli were found in poultry (MR 96.1%, IQR 83.3-100.0%), cattle (MR 85.7%, IQR 69.2-100.0%), and pigs (MR 94.0%, IQR 86.2-94.0%). In sheep, a high level of resistance was observed in E. coli against nalidixic acid (MR 87.5%, IQR 81.3-93.8%). In goats, the low level of sensibility was noted in S. aureus against streptomycin (MR 86.8%, IQR 19.4-99.0%). The study provides valuable information on HPCIAs resistance in livestock production in Africa and highlights the need for further research and policies to address the public health risk of AMR. This will likely require an investment in diagnostic infrastructure across the continent. Awareness on the harmful impact of AMR in African countries is a requirement to produce more effective and sustainable measures to curb AMR.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this scoping review was to evaluate the performance of artificial intelligence (AI) in the prognosis of dental implants. DATA Studies that analyzed the performance of AI models in the prediction of implant prognosis based on medical records or radiographic images. Quality assessment was conducted using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Checklist for Quasi-Experimental Studies. SOURCES This scoping review included studies published in English up to October 2023 in MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Scopus. A manual search was also performed. STUDY SELECTION Of 892 studies, full-text analysis was conducted in 36 studies. Twelve studies met the inclusion criteria. Eight used deep learning models, 3 applied traditional machine learning algorithms, and 1 study combined both types. The performance was quantified using accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, precision, F1 score, and receiver operating characteristic area under curves (ROC AUC). The prognostic accuracy was analyzed and ranged from 70 % to 96.13 %. CONCLUSIONS AI is a promising tool in evaluating implant prognosis, but further enhancements are required. Additional radiographic and clinical data are needed to improve AI performance in implant prognosis. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE AI can predict the prognosis of dental implants based on radiographic images or medical records. As a result, clinicians can receive predicted implant prognosis with the assistance of AI before implant placement and make informed decisions.

Abstract
Black carbon (BC) is a distinct type of carbonaceous aerosol that has a significant impact on the environment, human health, and climate. A non-BC material coating on BC can alter the mixing state of the BC particles, which considerably enhances the mass absorption efficiency of BC by directing more energy toward the BC cores (lensing effect). A lot of methods have been reported for quantifying the enhancement factor (Eabs), with diverse results. However, to the best of our knowledge, a comprehensive review specific to the quantification methods for Eabs has not been systematically performed, which is unfavorable for the evaluation of obtained results and subsequent radiative forcing. In this review, quantification methods are divided into two broad categories, direct and indirect, depending on whether experimental removal of the coating layer from an aged carbonaceous particle is required. The direct methods described include thermal peeling, solvent dissolution, and optical virtual exfoliation, while the indirect methods include intercept-linear regression fitting, minimum R squared, numerical simulation, and empirical value. We summarized the principles, procedures, virtues, and limitations of the major Eabs quantification methods and analyzed the current problems in the determination of Eabs. We pointed out what breakthroughs are needed to improve or innovate Eabs quantification methods, particularly regarding the need to avoid the influence of brown carbon, develop a broadband Eabs quantification scheme, quantify the Eabs values for the emissions of low-efficiency combustions, measure the Eabs of particles in a high-humidity environment, design a real-time monitor of Eabs by a proper combination of mature techniques, and make more use of artificial intelligence for better Eabs quantification. This review deepens the understanding of Eabs quantification methods and benefits the estimation of the contribution of BC to radiative forcing using climate models.

Abstract
The shortcomings of expense, power requirements, infection, durability, size, and blood trauma of current durable LVADs have been recognized for many years. The LVADs of tomorrow aspire to be fully implantable, durable, mitigate infectious risk, mimic the pulsatile nature of the native cardiac cycle, as well as minimize bleeding and thrombosis. Power draw, battery cycle lifespan and trans-cutaneous energy transmission remain barriers to completely implantable systems. Potential solutions include decreases in pump electrical draw, improving battery lifecycle technology and better trans-cutaneous energy transmission, potentially from Free-range Resonant Electrical Energy Delivery. In this review, we briefly discuss the history of LVADs and summarize the LVAD devices in the development pipeline seeking to address these issues.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Pregnant women and their offspring are often at increased direct and indirect risks of adverse outcomes during epidemics and pandemics. A coordinated research response is paramount to ensure that this group is offered at least the same level of disease prevention, diagnosis, and care as the general population. We conducted a landscape analysis and held expert consultations to identify research efforts relevant to pregnant women affected by disease outbreaks, highlight gaps and challenges, and propose solutions to addressing them in a coordinated manner. METHODS Literature searches were conducted from 1 January 2015 to 22 March 2022 using Web of Science, Google Scholar and PubMed augmented by key informant interviews. Findings were reviewed and Quid analysis was performed to identify clusters and connectors across research networks followed by two expert consultations. These formed the basis for the development of an operational framework for maternal and perinatal research during epidemics. RESULTS Ninety-four relevant research efforts were identified. Although well suited to generating epidemiological data, the entire infrastructure to support a robust research response remains insufficient, particularly for use of medical products in pregnancy. Limitations in global governance, coordination, funding and data-gathering systems have slowed down research responses. CONCLUSION Leveraging current research efforts while engaging multinational and regional networks may be the most effective way to scale up maternal and perinatal research preparedness and response. The findings of this landscape analysis and proposed operational framework will pave the way for developing a roadmap to guide coordination efforts, facilitate collaboration and ultimately promote rapid access to countermeasures and clinical care for pregnant women and their offspring in future epidemics.

Abstract
As the world becomes ever more connected, the chance of pandemics increases as well. The recent COVID-19 pandemic and the concurrent global mass vaccine roll-out provides an ideal setting to learn from and refine our understanding of infectious disease models for better future preparedness. In this review, we systematically analyze and categorize mathematical models that have been developed to design optimal vaccine prioritization strategies of an initially limited vaccine. As older individuals are disproportionately affected by COVID-19, the focus is on models that take age explicitly into account. The lower mobility and activity level of older individuals gives rise to non-trivial trade-offs. Secondary research questions concern the optimal time interval between vaccine doses and spatial vaccine distribution. This review showcases the effect of various modeling assumptions on model outcomes. A solid understanding of these relationships yields better infectious disease models and thus public health decisions during the next pandemic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) and its specific subset, non-ventilator hospital-acquired pneumonia (nvHAP) are significant contributors to patient morbidity and mortality. Automated surveillance systems for these healthcare-associated infections have emerged as a potentially beneficial replacement for manual surveillance. This systematic review aims to synthesise the existing literature on the characteristics and performance of automated nvHAP and HAP surveillance systems. METHODS We conducted a systematic search of publications describing automated surveillance of nvHAP and HAP. Our inclusion criteria covered articles that described fully and semi-automated systems without limitations on patient demographics or healthcare settings. We detailed the algorithms in each study and reported the performance characteristics of automated systems that were validated against specific reference methods. Two published metrics were employed to assess the quality of the included studies. RESULTS Our review identified 12 eligible studies that collectively describe 24 distinct candidate definitions, 23 for fully automated systems and one for a semi-automated system. These systems were employed exclusively in high-income countries and the majority were published after 2018. The algorithms commonly included radiology, leukocyte counts, temperature, antibiotic administration, and microbiology results. Validated surveillance systems' performance varied, with sensitivities for fully automated systems ranging from 40 to 99%, specificities from 58 and 98%, and positive predictive values from 8 to 71%. Validation was often carried out on small, pre-selected patient populations. CONCLUSIONS Recent years have seen a steep increase in publications on automated surveillance systems for nvHAP and HAP, which increase efficiency and reduce manual workload. However, the performance of fully automated surveillance remains moderate when compared to manual surveillance. The considerable heterogeneity in candidate surveillance definitions and reference standards, as well as validation on small or pre-selected samples, limits the generalisability of the findings. Further research, involving larger and broader patient populations is required to better understand the performance and applicability of automated nvHAP surveillance.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Infectious disease outbreaks have historically led to widespread disruptions in routine essential health services. Disruptions due to COVID-19 responses led to excess deaths, including among women and children. This review builds on earlier reviews of essential health services in national COVID-19 response and preparedness plans, focusing specifically on maternal, newborn, child, adolescent and ageing health (MNCAAH) in the context of renewed global emphasis on monitoring, recovering and strengthening these services. METHODS Using Google searches, we identified publicly available COVID-19 response and preparedness plans authored by a national government body or Public Health Institute from any country, territory and/or area, published between January 2020 and December 2022. We assessed whether each plan considered maintenance of MNCAAH services with related activities, costing or monitoring plans, and whether these considerations were integrated into the national incident management system for COVID-19. RESULTS We identified plans from 110 countries, representing 56% of our sample, in 10 languages. Most plans came from low-income and middle-income countries. Three quarters of dated documents were published between February and April 2020. 22% of plans referenced the impact of COVID-19 on MNCAAH, but only 13% included a planned activity for monitoring or mitigating this impact and less than 5% included relevant indicators, costing or integration of services in the incident management system. CONCLUSION We propose that unless content specifically related to the services and needs of these populations is integrated, these services will suffer in a future disruptive event. The COVID-19 response demonstrated the need for an interdisciplinary response to address the unforeseen impacts that arose, yet plans continue to have a narrow focus and a generic approach which may be limiting.

Abstract
Little is known about changes in the brain associated with frailty, in particular, which brain areas could be related to frailty in older people without cognitive impairment. This scoping review mapped evidence on functional and/or structural brain changes in frail older adults without cognitive impairment. The methodology proposed by the JBI® was used in this study. The search in PubMed, PubMed PMC, BVS/BIREME, EBSCOHOST, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, and PROQUEST was conducted up to January 2023. Studies included following the population, concepts, context and the screening and data extraction were performed by two independent reviewers. A total of 9,912 records were identified, 5,676 were duplicates and were excluded. The remaining articles were screened; 31 were read in full and 17 articles were included. The results showed that lesions in white matter hyperintensities, reduced volume of the hippocampus, cerebellum, middle frontal gyrus, low gray matter volume, cortical atrophy, decreased connectivity of the supplementary motor area, presence of amyloid-beta peptide (aβ) in the anterior and posterior putamen and precuneus regions were more frequently observed in frail older adults, compared with non-frail individuals. Studies have suggested that such findings may be of neurodegenerative or cerebrovascular origin. The identification of these brain alterations in frail older adults through neuroimaging studies contributes to our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of frailty. Such findings may have implications for the early detection of frailty and implementation of intervention strategies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although Klotho-related research has seen a significant upsurge, the field lacks comprehensive analytical representation and in-depth exploration of pertinent areas such as prevailing research trends and key focus areas. METHOD This review presents a bibliometric analysis of literature data gathered from the Web of Science Core Collection databases from January 1, 2000, to April 30, 2023. Parameters such as co-authorship, co-citation, co-occurrence, and the emergence of publications, countries, categories, references, and keywords were scrutinized predominantly using Citespace software. RESULTS Our investigation amassed a total of 3548 papers, with the United States leading in the quantity of publications (1175, accounting for 33.12%), followed by China (867, representing 24.44%), and Japan (439, accounting for 12.37%). While the United States is preeminent in the overall volume of publications, Scotland holds prominence in terms of centrality. Out of a total of 96 subject categories, urology and nephrology (573), and endocrinology and metabolism (542) were the two leading domains of Klotho-related publications. The 2011 paper titled "FGF23 induces left ventricular hypertrophy" by Faul C et al. holds the distinction of being the most frequently cited. The keywords "fibroblast growth factor 23," "phosphate homeostasis," and "functional variants" demonstrated the highest intensity, underscoring the potential of these research areas. CONCLUSION As the volume of literature grows, the role of Klotho in disease management and its applicability as a marker in disease progression warrant vigilant tracking and study.

Abstract
Childhood diseases correspond to major public health issues. A large number of studies using different approaches provide evidence regarding effects of environmental exposures, encompassed in the exposome, on children's health. We aimed to summarize the overall level of evidence (LoE) from all streams of evidence regarding exposome effects on child health. For 88 selected chemical and urban factors, we retrieved the conclusions of agency reports or literature reviews published between 2015 and 2021 regarding effects on child health, including cardiovascular, metabolic, neurodevelopmental, respiratory and other health outcomes. Adapted versions of PRISMA flowchart and AMSTAR-2 tool were used to select and assess the quality of the systematic reviews retrieved from PubMed and SCOPUS databases. For each factor-outcome pair, conclusions in three streams of evidence (epidemiological, toxicological and mechanistic, the latter corresponding to in vitro and in silico approaches) were translated into stream-specific LoEs and then combined into an overall LoE ranging from "very unlikely" to "very likely". The 88 environmental factors were implied in 611 factor-outcome pairs. Forty-four pairs (7%), corresponding to 16 factors, had a very likely overall LoE (≥80%); 127 pairs (21%), corresponding to 49 factors, had a likely or more overall LoE (≥60%). For 81 pairs (13%), no evidence was available in agency reports or published reviews, while for 275 pairs (45%), corresponding to 68 factors, the overall LoE was very unlikely (<20%). Exposure factors with the greatest number of associated health outcomes with a high overall LoE were HCB, PCBs, temperature (8 outcomes), PFOA (7 outcomes), PFOS, cotinine (6 outcomes), arsenic, lead (5 outcomes), bisphenols A and S, PFNA and PM2.5 (4 outcomes), DDT, DDE and DDD, PFHxA, PFDA, green space, UV radiation (3 outcomes). We developed an approach to extract and summarize the existing evidence about effects of environmental factors on health. The plausibility database built for children's health can be used to identify research gaps, conduct quantitative risk assessment studies. It could be expanded to consider a larger fraction of the exposome and other age groups and should be updated on a regular basis.

Abstract
The liver plays a crucial role in the control of glucose homeostasis and is therefore of great interest in the investigation of the development of type 2 diabetes. Hepatic glucose uptake (HGU) can be measured through positron emission tomography (PET) imaging with the tracer [18F]-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG). HGU is dependent on many variables (e.g. plasma glucose, insulin and glucagon concentrations), and the metabolic state for HGU assessment should be chosen with care and coherence with the study question. In addition, as HGU is influenced by many factors, protocols and measurement conditions need to be standardised for reproducible results. This review provides insights into the protocols that are available for the measurement of HGU by FDG PET and discusses the current state of knowledge of HGU and its impairment in type 2 diabetes. Overall, a scanning modality that allows for the measurement of detailed kinetic information and influx rates (dynamic imaging) may be preferable to static imaging. The combination of FDG PET and insulin stimulation is crucial to measure tissue-specific insulin sensitivity. While the hyperinsulinaemic-euglycaemic clamp allows for standardised measurements under controlled blood glucose levels, some research questions might require a more physiological approach, such as oral glucose loading, with both advantages and complexities relating to fluctuations in blood glucose and insulin levels. The available approaches to address HGU hold great potential but await more systematic exploitation to improve our understanding of the mechanisms underlying metabolic diseases. Current findings from the investigation of HGU by FDG PET highlight the complex interplay between insulin resistance, hepatic glucose metabolism, NEFA levels and intrahepatic lipid accumulation in type 2 diabetes and obesity. Further research is needed to fully understand the underlying mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets for improving HGU in these conditions.

Abstract
Anticoagulation therapy has undergone significant evolution, marked by the emergence of direct oral anticoagulants with distinct advantages. Despite these advancements, challenges persist in managing residual thrombotic and bleeding risks, particularly among vulnerable populations. The pursuit of alternative drugs has honed in on factor XI/XIa inhibitors. This comprehensive review delves into several key aspects regarding this new target: (i) the role of factor XI in the coagulation cascade; (ii) the genetic evidence and pathophysiologic rationale supporting factor XI inhibition as a therapeutic target; (iii) an exploration of the various types of factor XI/XIa inhibitors currently under investigation; (iv) potential applications of these medications, spanning thromboprophylaxis after orthopedic surgery, stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation, secondary prevention after acute coronary syndrome, non-cardioembolic stroke, thromboprophylaxis after foreign material implantation, end-stage renal disease, and patients with cancer; and (v) an overview of ongoing studies, recent findings, and the future trajectory of research into these drugs.
