Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the clinical predictors, including traditional Chinese medicine tongue characteristics and other clinical parameters for chemotherapy-induced myelosuppression (CIM), and then to develop a clinical prediction model and construct a nomogram. A total of 103 patients with lung cancer were prospectively enrolled in this study. All of them were scheduled to receive first-line chemotherapy regimens. Participants were randomly assigned to either the training group (n = 52) or the test group (n = 51). Tongue characteristics and clinical parameters were collected before the start of chemotherapy, and then the incidence of myelosuppression was assessed after treatment. We used univariate logistic regression analysis to identify the risk predictors for assessing the incidence of CIM. Moreover, we developed a predictive model and a nomogram using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Finally, we evaluated the predictive performance of the model by examining the area under the curve value of the receiver operating characteristic, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis. As a result, a total of 3 independent predictors were found to be associated with the CIM in multivariate regression analysis: the fat tongue (OR = 3.67), Karnofsky performance status score (OR = 0.11), and the number of high-toxic drugs in chemotherapy regimens (OR = 4.78). Then a model was constructed using these 3 predictors and it exhibited a robust predictive performance with an area under the curve of 0.82 and the consistent calibration curves. Besides, the decision curve analysis results suggested that applying this predictive model can result in more net clinical benefit for patients. We established a traditional Chinese medicine prediction model based on the tongue characteristics and clinical parameters, which could serve as a useful tool for assessing the risk of CIM.

Abstract
Since the emergence of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, significant advancements has been made in research, from limited knowledge about the disease to the development of a vaccine. Although the severity of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) appears to be decreasing and the threat of COVID-19 is waning, there have been widespread concerns about persistent symptoms or sequelae experienced by some patients even after recovering from COVID-19. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has shown favorable treatment outcomes during the onset of COVID-19, and extensive studies have been carried out to explore the efficacy of TCM interventions during the COVID-19 recovery period. The purpose of this review is to comprehensively analyze these studies and provide new insights for the prevention and treatment of the post-COVID-19 condition.

Abstract
To reveal the key factors influencing the progression of severe COVID-19 to critical illness and death in the intensive care unit (ICU) and to accurately predict the risk, as well as to validate the efficacy of treatment using traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), thus providing valuable recommendations for the clinical management of patients. A total of 189 patients with COVID-19 in 25 ICUs in Chongqing, China, were enrolled, and 16 eventually died. Statistical models shown that factors influencing the progression of COVID-19 to critical illness include the severity of illness at diagnosis, the mode of respiratory support, and the use of TCM. Risk factors for death include a history of metabolic disease, the use of antiviral drugs and TCM, and invasive endotracheal intubation. The area under curve of the noncollinearity model predicted the risk of progression to critical illness and the risk of death reached 0.847 and 0.876, respectively. The use of TCM is an independent protective factor for the prevention of the progression of severe COVID-19, while uncorrectable hypoxemia and invasive respiratory support are independent risk factors, and antiviral drugs can help reduce mortality. The multifactorial prediction model can assess the risk of critical illness and death in ICU COVID-19 patients, and inform clinicians in choosing the treatment options and medications.

Abstract
This study utilized network pharmacology to investigate the effects of Xiaoyaosan (XYS) on the intervention of hyperplasia of mammary glands (HMG) by targeting specific genes and signaling pathways. The active ingredients and targets of XYS, which consisted of 8 traditional Chinese medicines (TCM), were identified using TCMSP. The gene targets associated with HMG were obtained from the GeneCards Database, and the intersection data between the 2 was integrated. Cytoscape 3.8.1 software was used to construct a network diagram illustrating the relationship between compounds, drug active ingredients, target proteins, and the disease. The protein-protein interaction network diagram was generated using STRING, and the core targets were analyzed. A total of 133 active ingredients in XYS and 7662 active ingredient targets were identified. Among them, 6088 targets were related to HMG, and 542 were common targets between the active ingredients and the disease. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) core network contained 15 targets, with 5 key targets playing a crucial role. Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses have indicated that XYS has the potential to treat HMG by interfering with the AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications, the MAPK signaling pathway, and the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. Additionally, molecular docking studies have shown excellent binding properties between the drug components and key targets. Thus, this study provides a theoretical foundation for a better understanding of the pharmacological mechanism and clinical application of XYS in the comprehensive treatment of HMG.

Abstract
Immune-related cutaneous adverse events (ircAEs) will undermine the patients' quality of lives, and interrupt the antitumor therapy. A clinical proved recipe for external use of clearing heat and removing dampness (Qing-Re-Li-Shi Formula, hereinafter referred to as "QRLSF") is beneficial to the treatment of ircAEs in clinical practice. Our study will elucidate the mechanism of QRLSF against ircAEs based on network pharmacology and molecular docking. The active components and corresponding targets of QRLSF were collected through traditional Chinese medicine systems pharmacology database. GeneCards, online Mendelian inheritance in man, and pharmacogenomics knowledgebase were used to screen the targets of ircAEs. The intersecting targets between drug and disease were acquired by venn analysis. Cytoscape software was employed to construct "components-targets" network. Search tool for the retrieval of interacting genes/proteins database was applied to establish the protein-protein interaction network and then its core targets were identified. Gene ontology and Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes analysis was performed to predict the mechanism. The molecular docking verification of key targets and related phytomolecules was accomplished by AutoDock Vina software. Thirty-nine intersecting targets related to QRLSF against ircAEs were recognized. The analysis of network clarified 5 core targets (STAT3, RELA, TNF, TP53, and NFKBIA) and 4 key components (quercetin, apigenin, luteolin, and ursolic acid). The activity of QRLSF against ircAEs could be attributed to the regulation of multiple biological effects via multi-pathways (PI3K-Akt pathway, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, JAK-STAT pathway, chemokine pathway, Th17 cell differentiation, IL-17 pathway, TNF pathway, and Toll-like receptor pathway). The binding activities were estimated as good level by molecular docking. These discoveries disclosed the multi-component, multi-target, and multi-pathway characteristics of QRLSF against ircAEs, providing a new strategy for such medical problem.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) are commonly used first-line drugs for treating cerebral thrombosis and stroke in China. However, the synchronized and targeted delivery of active ingredients in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) poses a significant challenge for modern TCM formulations. METHODS Bovine serum albumin (BSA) was modified using 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC), an analog of acetylcholine, and subsequently adsorbed the major PNS onto the modified albumin to produce MPC-BSA@PNS nanoparticles (NPs). This novel delivery system facilitated efficient and synchronized transport of PNS across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) through active transport mediated by nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. RESULTS In vitro experiments demonstrated that the transport rates of R1, Rg1, Rb1, and Rd across the BBB were relatively synchronous in MPC-BSA@PNS NPs compared to those in the PNS solution. Additionally, animal experiments revealed that the brain-targeting efficiencies of R1 + Rg1 + Rb1 in MPC-BSA@PNS NPs were 2.02 and 7.73 times higher than those in BSA@PNS NPs and the free PNS group, respectively. CONCLUSIONS This study presents a simple and feasible approach for achieving the targeted delivery of complex active ingredient clusters in TCM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The mechanism of action of fire acupuncture and Chinese medicine in psoriasis is unclear. In this paper, the efficacy of the 2 therapies was compared through a comprehensive analysis of their recurrence rates for clinical reference. METHODS In this meta-analysis, we searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang, CQVIP, and CBM data from the establishment of the databases to May 2023. The study proposed to use randomized controlled trial research methods, excluding published literature, unpublished literature, literature with incomplete or inadequate information, animal experiments, literature reviews and systematic studies. Data were processed using STATA 15.1 software. RESULTS Our group previous study found that the clinical efficacy of the fire-acupuncture group was significantly improved compared to that of Chinese herbal medicine alone (RR = 1.20, 95% CI: 1.13-1.27). Also, there were significant reductions in Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score (SMD = -1.04,95% CI: -1.48 to -0.60), area of skin damage (SMD = -0.40,95% CI: -0.75 to -0.04), and pruritus (SMD = -1.04,95% CI: -1.32 to -0.76). Our previous study found that Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) was significantly lower in the fire acupuncture group compared to herbal medicine alone (SMD = -1.61,95% CI: -3.08 to -0.15). The combined analysis found that the recurrence rate was significantly lower in the fire-acupuncture group compared to herbal medicine alone (RR = 0.21,95% CI:0.07-0.60). CONCLUSION Fire needle can improve the efficacy of TCM in the treatment of psoriasis, including the area, severity and itching of skin lesions, and reduce the recurrence rate, which is worthy of clinical promotion.

Abstract
Numerous studies have demonstrated an intimate relationship between circadian rhythm disorders and the development and prevention of depression. The biological clock genes, which constitute the molecular basis of endogenous circadian rhythms, hold promising prospects for depression treatment. Based on an extensive review of recent domestic and international research, this article presents a comprehensive analysis of how traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) intervenes in depression by regulating circadian rhythms. The findings indicate that TCM exerts its antidepressant effects by targeting specific biological clock genes such as Bmal1, clock, Arntl, Per1, Per2, Per3, Nr1d1, Cry2, and Dbp, as well as regulating circadian rhythms of hormone secretion. However, most current research is still confined to basic experimental studies, lacking clinical double-blind control trials to further validate these viewpoints. Furthermore, there is insufficient research on the signal transduction pathway between biological clock genes and pathological changes in depression. Additionally, further clarification is needed regarding the specific targets of TCM on the biological clock genes.

Abstract
RATIONALE Castleman disease (CD) was first included in the CSCO lymphoma diagnosis and treatment guidelines in 2021. Its diagnosis relies on lymph node pathological examination. Observation, surgical resection of the lesion, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and medical therapy (e.g., rituximab, siltuximab, steroids) can be used. Due to the traumatic, incurable, and recurrent nature of surgical treatment, drug therapy has many side effects and is expensive. Exploring effective traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) comprehensive treatment methods for this disease is important and necessary. PATIENT CONCERNS The main symptom was recurrent lymphadenopathy, which had been surgically removed 5 times in the past. This time, lymph node enlargement occurred again, and the local hospital recommended surgical resection again. The patient could not tolerate another surgical treatment. Other targeted treatments are not available due to financial constraints. DIAGNOSES The case was diagnosed as CD by pathological examination, which is an important basis for the diagnosis of this disease. INTERVENTIONS The patient was treated with surgery in the early stage several times, later came to our hospital for the trinity of TCM integrated treatment program, which combines oral TCM with external application of TCM and intravenous drip of TCM as a syndrome of positive deficiency and phlegm-toxin internalization, and the therapeutic principle. OUTCOMES After nearly 3 years of comprehensive treatment with TCM, the enlarged lymph nodes could not be touched, and there was no fatigue, fever, or weight loss. During this period, the patient did not undergo surgery, chemotherapy and other western medicine treatment, and lived a normal life. It not only met the patient's expectation but also confirmed that the TCM treatment was indeed effective. LESSONS This case report confirms that TCM is safe and effective in the treatment of CD, which is worthy of promotion. In clinical practice, the individualized treatment for the patient, the duration of treatment, and the different disease states also affect the treatment outcome.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) combined with Silibinin in the treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are still inconclusive. This meta-analysis intends to evaluation to explore the clinical efficacy and quality assessment of traditional Chinese medicine in combination with Silymarin in the treatment of NAFLD, aiming to aims to provide evidence-based data analysis for researchers and clinical practitioners involved in TCM research for NAFLD, with the hope of facilitating wider adoption and application. METHODS In this meta-analysis, we searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang, CQVIP and CBM databases from the establishment of the databases to Oct 2023. The study proposed to include studies that reported combination of TCM with Silibinin and Silibinin alone in the treatment of NAFLD, excluding studies for which full text was not available or for which data extraction was not possible; studies using animal studies; reviews and systematic reviews. All data were processed by STATA15.1 statistical software. RESULTS 16 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included in this meta-analysis. The sample size ranged from 48 to 120, with a total of 1335 patients, including 669 in the Combined treatment group and 384 in the Silibinin group. The findings indicated that the total effective rate of combined treatment group was significantly higher than that of Silibinin alone. Levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), and gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) of combined treatment group were all significantly lower than that of western medicine alone. Additionally, after treating NAFLD with a combination of TCM and Silibinin, the TCM syndrome score were significantly lower than those observed with Silibinin alone. CONCLUSION Traditional Chinese medicine in conjunction with Silibinin capsules has shown significant efficacy in the treatment of NAFLD, improving clinical symptoms, blood lipid levels, and liver function. Furthermore, it is essential to engage in multi-omics research, investigate iron death, and explore the gut microbiota as potential observational indicators for the diagnosis and inclusion criteria. Conducting more high-quality clinical experiments is necessary to further validate these findings.

Abstract
As a global malignancy with high mortality rate, targeted drug development for Uterine Cervical Neoplasms is an important direction. The traditional formula Guizhi Fuling Wan (GFW) is widely used in gynecological diseases. However, its potential mechanism of action remains to be discovered. We retrieved GFW and cervical squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) targets from public databases. The protein-protein interaction network was obtained by string computational analysis and imported Cytoscape_v3.9.0 to obtain the core network and the top 10 Hub genes. Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes were used for enrichment analysis of the core network, and then molecular docking to verify whether the selected signaling pathway binds well to the core node. Finally, clinical prognostic analysis and expression differences of Hub genes were validated using the Cancer Genome Atlas database and R language. Our search yielded 152 common targets for GFW and CSCC. The interleukin-17 signaling pathway, tumor necrosis factor signaling pathway, and Toll-like signaling pathway were then selected for further molecular docking from the hub genes enrichment analysis results, which showed good binding. Among the Hub genes, JUN, VEGFA, IL1B, and EGF had a poor prognosis for CSCC. In conclusion, this study illustrates that GFW can have adjuvant therapeutic effects on CSCC through multiple targets and multiple pathways, providing a basis for further research.

Abstract
Osteosarcoma (OS) has a high recurrence rate, disability rate, mortality and metastasis, it brings great economic burden and psychological pressure to patients, and then seriously affects the quality of life of patients. At present, the treatment methods of OS mainly include radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgical therapy and neoadjuvant chemotherapy combined with limb salvage surgery. These treatment methods can relieve the clinical symptoms of patients to a certain extent, and also effectively reduce the disability rate, mortality and recurrence rate of OS patients. However, because metastasis of tumor cells leads to new complications, and OS cells become resistant with prolonged drug intervention, which reduces the sensitivity of OS cells to drugs, these treatments still have some limitations. More and more studies have shown that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has the characteristics of "multiple targets and multiple pathways," and can play an important role in the development of OS through several key signaling pathways, including PI3K/AKT, Wnt/β-catenin, tyrosine kinase/transcription factor 3 (JAK/STAT3), Notch, transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β)/Smad, nuclear transcription factor-κB (NF-κB), mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), Hippo/YAP, OPG/RANK/RANKL, Hedgehog and so on. In this paper, the signaling pathways of cross-interference between active ingredients of TCM and OS were reviewed, and the development status of novel OS treatment was analyzed. The active ingredients in TCM can provide therapeutic benefits to patients by targeting the activity of signaling pathways. In addition, potential strategies for targeted therapy of OS by using ferroptosis were discussed. We hope to provide a unique insight for the in-depth research and clinical application of TCM in the fields of OS growth, metastasis and chemotherapy resistance by understanding the signaling crosstalk between active ingredients in TCM and OS.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Maintenance therapy aimed to strengthen the first-line chemotherapy and improve quality of life is needed for gastric cancer (GC). Currently, many clinical studies have confirmed the important role of fluoropyrimidine in the maintenance stage. Our team has created patented prescriptions "Fuzheng jiedu Quyu Method" recipe (FJQR), which was considered as an adjuvant therapeutic scheme (reduce toxicity and increase the efficacy of chemotherapy). This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of FJQR combined with fluoropyrimidine as a maintenance treatment in HER-2 negative GC patients. METHODS We performed the analysis of 129 patients with HER-2 negative GC who entered the maintenance stage in our hospital and Tianjin Cancer Hospital between January 2018 and December 2020. Out of the 129 eligible patients, 64 were categorized into the maintenance treatment group with FJQR+fluoropyrimidine, and 65 patients were assigned to the control group if they received fluoropyrimidine alone. Capecitabine was orally 1000mg/m2, Qd, half an hour after meals, and FGQR was 15g Bid after capecitabine. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS). The secondary endpoints were overall survival (OS), overall remission rate (ORR), quality of Life (QOL), TCM syndrome and safety. RESULTS The mPFS in the treatment group was significantly prolonged compared with the control group (6.3 vs. 5.0 months, p = 0.03), while the mOS was not substantially improved (11.4 vs. 10.5 months, p = 0.38). Gastrointestinal symptoms and pain became better in the treatment group. The number of distant metastatic organs, first-line chemotherapy cycles, and lymph node metastasis were independent risk predictors for PFS. Blood stasis syndrome may be the protective factor. In terms of safety, treatment-related adverse events (AEs) in the treatment group were relatively lighter, and the incidence of grade III-IV AEs could be significantly reduced. CONCLUSION FJQR and fluoropyrimidine have synergistic effects as maintenance treatment in HER-2 negative GC, with good efficacy and safety.

Abstract
As a common clinical disease, fracture is often accompanied by pain, swelling, bleeding as well as other symptoms and has a high disability rate, even threatening life, seriously endangering patients' physical and psychological health and quality of life. Medical practitioners take many strategies for the treatment of fracture healing, including Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In the early stage of fracture healing, the local fracture is often in a state of hypoxia, accompanied by the expression of hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), which is beneficial to wound healing. Through literature mining, we thought that hypoxia, HIF-1α and downstream factors affected the mechanism of fracture healing, as well as dominated this process. Therefore, we reviewed the local characteristics and related signaling pathways involved in the fracture healing process and summarized the intervention of TCM on these mechanisms, in order to inspirit the new strategy for fracture healing, as well as elaborate on the possible principles of TCM in treating fractures based on the HIF molecular mechanism.

Abstract
Immune-related nephropathy (IRN) refers to immune-response-mediated glomerulonephritis and is the main cause of end-stage renal failure. The pathogenesis of IRN is not fully understood; therefore, treatment is challenging. Traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) have potent clinical effects in the treatment of the IRN conditions immunoglobulin A nephropathy, lupus nephropathy, and diabetic nephropathy. The underlying mechanisms mainly include its inhibition of inflammation; improvements to renal interstitial fibrosis, oxidative stress, autophagy, apoptosis; and regulation of immunity. In this review, we summarize the clinical symptoms of the three IRN subtypes and the use of TCM prescriptions, herbs, and bioactive compounds in treating IRN, as well as the potential mechanisms, intending to provide a reference for the future study of TCM as IRN treatments.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION To investigate the mechanism of Danggui Liuhuang Tang (DGLHT) in the treatment of hyperthyroidism (HT), we explored the multi-component, multi-target, and multi-pathway mechanism based on the network pharmacology method of traditional Chinese medicine. OBJECTIVE Using network pharmacology and molecular docking, the effective components, core targets, and critical pathways of DGLHT in the therapy of HT were investigated. The mechanism of DGLHT in the treatment of HT is discussed in this work, which also offers a scientific foundation for further research into the process. METHODS To take DGLHT into the blood components as the research object, we used GeneCards, Drungbank, Therapeutic Target Database (TTD), Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM), Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacogenomics Knowledge Base (PharmGKB), and other databases to predict the potential target of the components. Then, it was integrated with the predicted targets of HT disease to obtain the potential targets of DGLHT in the treatment of HT. We used String database and Cytoscape software for protein-protein interaction network (PPI) construction, and DAVID platform for Gene Ontology (GO) analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway annotation, the Cytoscape software was used to construct a "component-target-pathway" network; the AutoDock Vina platform was used to conduct molecular docking between the blood entry components and key targets. RESULTS According to the analysis, a total of 93 active ingredients, 348 disease-related targets, and 36 potential targets were screened out. Among them, key targets such as MAPK1, CCND1, AKT1, and TNF exert curative effects, and the main pathways are the HIF-1 signaling pathway, FoxO signaling pathway, Chemokine signaling pathway, TNF signaling pathway, Toll-like receptor signaling pathway, T cell receptor signaling pathway, Jak-STAT signaling pathway, and other pathways. Molecular docking results verified the interaction between active ingredients and key targets, among which rustication and quercetin had high docking affinity with key target proteins MAPK1 and CCND1. CONCLUSION This study preliminary revealed that DGLHT has the characteristics of multi-component, multi-target, and multi-pathway in the treatment of HT, and it established a scientific foundation for a more detailed investigation of DGLHT's molecular mechanism in the treatment of HT.

Abstract
Studies have confirmed that the health hazards of patients with lower limb injuries combined with osteoporosis are more obvious. This study is mainly based on the Taiwan National Health Insurance Database, and through big data analysis, it shows that the combined treatment of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is helpful to the health of patients with lower limb injuries combined with osteoporosis. A total of 9989 combined TCM-treated patients and 19,978 2:1 sex-, age-, and index-year-matched controls who did not receive TCM treatment were selected from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Database. Cox proportional hazards analyzes were performed to compare fracture surgery, inpatient, and all-cause mortality during a mean follow-up period of 17 years. A total of 5406/8601/2564 enrolled-subjects (14.11%/25.46%/5.53%) had fracture surgery/inpatient/all-cause mortality, including 1409/2543/552 in the combined TCM group (14.11%/25.46%/5.53%) and 3997/6058/2012 in the control group (20.01%/30.32%/10.07%). Cox proportional hazard regression analysis showed a lower rate of fracture surgery, inpatient and all-cause mortality for subjects in the combined TCM group (adjusted hazard ratios [HR] = 0.723; 95% confidence intervals [CI] = 0.604-0.810, P < .001; adjusted hazard ratios [HR] = 0.803; 95% CI = 0.712-0.950, P = .001; adjusted HR = 0.842; 95% CI = 0.731-0.953, P = .007, respectively). After 10 years of follow-up, the cumulative incidence of fracture surgery in patients combining TCM treatment seems to be half of that without combining TCM treatment those are shown in Kaplan-Meier analysis with statistically significant (log rank, P < .001, P < .001, and P = .010, respectively). This study hopes to provide clinicians with the option of combined TCM treatment for patients of lower limbs injuries combined with osteoporosis, so that such patients will be associate with a lower risk of fracture surgery, inpatient or all-cause mortality.

Abstract
AIMS This research aimed to investigate the inhibitory effects of Pudilan mouthwash (PDL) on Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) biofilms and identify its chemical components. METHODS AND RESULTS The impacts of 100% concentrated PDL on S. mutans biofilm were detected by colony-forming unit (CFU) assays, crystal violet staining, confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT‒PCR). The biocompatibility with human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs) was evaluated by Cell-Counting-Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. And chemical components were identified by UPLC-HRMS. PBS and 0.12% chlorhexidine were used as negative and positive controls, respectively. Results indicate early 8-h S. mutans biofilms are sensitive to PDL. Additionally, it leads to a decrease in bacterial activities and dextran-dependent aggregation in 24-h S. mutans biofilms. PDL significantly downregulates the gene expression of gtfB/C/D and smc. And 114 components are identified. CONCLUSIONS PDL has an inhibitory effect on S. mutans and favorable biocompatibility. It has potential to be exploited as a novel anti-biofilm agent.

Abstract
RATIONALE Sotos syndrome is an congenital overgrowth syndrome characterized by the primary features including overgrowth, distinctive facial features, learning disability, and accompanied with various second features. NSD1 deletion or mutation is a major pathogenic cause. Although there are some reports on treatment of this disease worldwide, less cases under treatment have been published in China. PATIENT CONCERNS A 1-year-old boy had macrocephaly, gigantism, excessive high body height, a particular face and delayed development, with a pathogenic gene of NSD1 (NM_022455.5:c.3536delA in exon 5). DIAGNOSIS AND INTERVENTIONS The child was definitely diagnosed as Sotos syndrome and have 3 months' combination treatment of traditional Chinese medicine and rehabilitation. OUTCOMES The child made a great progress in global development. LESSONS This case firstly describes the traditional Chinese medicine and rehabilitation to treat Sotos syndrome in China. There is no radical cure, but our therapy could improve the prognosis and the life quality of the patient. Therefore, this case provides a reference to the clinical treatment of Sotos syndrome.

Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease characterized by chronic polyarticular pain, for which no cure currently exists. In Chinese medicine, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is believed to be caused by phlegm and blood stagnation. Shentong Zhuyu decoction can be used to treat RA, as it promotes blood circulation, resolves blood stasis, and relieves pain. In our study, we used network pharmacology and computer-aided drug design to evaluate the components, active compounds, and targets of Shentong Zhuyu decoction (STZY). Our results suggest that STZY contains active compounds such as quercetin, luteolin, and formononetin that regulate immune network targets. RA associated genes are enriched in pathways including those associated with nuclear factor kappa B, phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/AKT, and hypoxia inducible factor 1 signaling. The main active compounds in STZY (quercetin and luteolin) were derived from Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, Carthami Flos, licorice, Cyperi Rhizoma, and Myrrha and targeted the pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin 2, interleukin 1 alpha, interleukin 1 beta, and interleukin 6. In addition, the compounds quercetin, luteolin, and formononetin in these herbs can target the anti-inflammatory cytokines interleukin 4 and interleukin 10. Our results suggest that STZY can balance the immune network, promote an anti-inflammatory environment, and reduce the clinical symptoms of RA. Based on the close relationship between inflammatory response and osteoclast formation, we hypothesized that STZY may inhibit inflammation and alleviate bone destruction in RA. Our findings indicate that STZY can treat RA through multiple components, targets, and pathways. This study may provide a reference for the clinical application of STZY in RA treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Guizhi-Shaoyao-Zhimu decoction (GSZD) is a Chinese herb formula. Previous studies have reported that the clinical symptoms and laboratory indicators of gouty arthritis patients could be improved by GSZD. However, no previous study has evaluated and analyzed its efficacy, safety, underlying mechanisms, and the relationship between related ingredients of herbs and targets of gouty arthritis. METHODS Randomized controlled trials of GSZD for gouty arthritis were retrieved from various databases. Meta-analysis was performed by Stata 17 software. Galbraith plot was used to find studies with possible heterogeneity. Publication bias was assessed by Egger test and funnel plot. The related ingredients of herbs and the targets of herbs and gouty arthritis were obtained from several databases, such as TCMSP, HERB, and DrugBank. The protein-protein interaction network was conducted by the STRING platform. DAVID database was used to perform GO and KEGG analysis. Molecular docking and visualization of docking results were carried out by AutoDock and PyMOL software. RESULTS Twenty studies with 1633 patients were included. Meta-analysis indicated that GSZD could better improve the clinical efficiency and visual analogue scale score, and reduce the level of blood uric acid and inflammatory biomarkers (including C-reactive protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, interleukin 6, interleukin 8, and tumor necrosis factor-α) than conventional treatment. In addition, we retrieved 157 active compounds, 517 herb target genes, 3082 disease targets, and 295 intersection targets of herb and disease. The results of network pharmacology analysis showed that the core related ingredients included quercetin, kaempferol, sitosterol, luteolin, catechin, etc. The core intersection targets contained AKT1, TNF-α, TP53, IL6, etc. And the critical signaling pathways included IL-17, HIF-1, TNF, PI3K-Akt, etc. Among the 56 molecular docking results, only 8 results had binding energy values greater than -5.0 kcal/mol. CONCLUSION GSZD could be a satisfactory complementary and alternative therapy for treating gouty arthritis. However, it should be verified by further studies. Future research on gouty arthritis could be conducted from the active components including beta-sitosterol and sitosterol, the targets including TNF-1, IL1B, and ESR1, and the signaling pathways including IL-17 and HIF-1.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to retrospectively analyze the clinical efficacy and safety of Qingfei Paidu granules (QFPG) combined with non-drug therapy of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in treating patients with asymptomatic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-2019). A total of 450 patients admitted to the wards of Chongming Changxing Island isolation site from April 1 to 18, 2022 were retrospectively analyzed and divided into 3 groups according to the treatment that they received. W1 was not treated (control group), and W2 was given QFPG (TCM treatment), W3 (TCM combined with TCM non-drug therapy) was treated with QFPG, five-element music therapy and Gong. We retrospectively analyzed the medical history data, including general information, time of first turning negative, length of hospital stays, number of cases classified as mild or ordinary, number of cases with adverse events/adverse reactions. The conversion to negative time of the 3 groups was 6.50, 4.40, and 3.81 days, respectively, and there were significant differences among the 3 groups (P < .001). The hospital duration in the 3 groups was 8.45, 5.72, and 5.53 days, respectively, and there were significant differences among the 3 groups (P < .001). The number of adverse events W1 (5/150, 3.3%), W2 (8/150, 5.3%), and W3 (4/150, 2.7%) was consistent among the 3 groups (P > .05). QFPG with TCM non-drug therapy is effective in patients with asymptomatic COVID-2019, which can effectively shorten the time to double negative and reduce the proportion of patients with mild disease.

Abstract
Cerebral ischemia is a cerebrovascular disease with symptoms caused by insufficient blood or oxygen supply to the brain. When blood supplied is restored after cerebral ischemia, secondary brain injury may occur, which is called cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI). In this process, the Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) signaling pathway plays an important role. It mediates neuroinflammation and participates in the regulation of physiological activities, such as cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. After CIRI, M1 microglia is activated and recruited by the damaged tissue. The inflammatory factors are produced by M1 microglia through the JAK/STAT pathway, eventually leading to cell apoptosis. Meanwhile, the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway and the expression of lipocalin-2 and caspase-3 could increase. In the pathway, phosphorylated JAK2 and phosphorylated STAT3 function of 2 ways. They not only promote the proliferation of neurons, but also affect the differentiation direction of neural stem cells by further acting on the Notch signaling pathway. Recently, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a key player in CIRI, through JAK2, STAT3, STAT1 and their phosphorylation. Therefore, the review focuses on the JAK/STAT signaling pathway and its relationship with CIRI as well as the influence of the TCM on this pathway. It is aimed at providing the basis for future clinical research on the molecular mechanism of TCM in the treatment of CIRI.

Abstract
Myofascial pain around an arteriovenous fistula (AVF) during hemodialysis (HD) can affect a patient compliance with HD and quality of life. Prolonged use of analgesics is often associated with increased adverse events. Juan Bi Tang (JBT) is an ancient decoction of Chinese traditional medicinal plants commonly used to treat spasms and pain in the shoulder and upper arm, and it is popularly believed to have favorable outcomes in Asian populations. This interventional prospective pilot study was worked to demonstrate the potential of JBT for fistula-associated myofascial pain in HD patients and to prepare for future randomized controlled trials. Eligible patients were enrolled in this study and took JBT to treat fistula-associated myofascial pain for 4 weeks. Pain scores on a visual analogue scale (VAS) were reported at baseline, after a 4-week intervention, and 2 weeks after completion of treatment. The Kidney Disease Quality of Life 36-Item Short Form and a safety laboratory monitor were statistically compared between different time points. A total of 20 patients were selected as eligible participants and completed the intervention and questionnaires. The mean VAS score was significantly reduced after JBT treatment (P < .01). Participants reported improved physical (P < .01) and mental health (P < .05) after treatment. However, only improvements in mental health were preserved 2 weeks after the end of treatment (P < .05). In this study, complementary JBT for HD patients with fistula-related myofascial pain was viable and well tolerated, and it demonstrated the expected effects on pain control.

Abstract
Depression, a prevalent psychiatric malady, afflicts a substantial global demographic, engendering considerable disease burden due to its elevated morbidity and mortality rates. Contemporary therapeutic approaches for depression encompass the administration of serotonin reuptake inhibitors, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, and tricyclic antidepressants, albeit these pharmaceuticals potentially induce adverse neurological and gastrointestinal effects. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) natural products proffer the benefits of multi-target, multi-level, and multi-channel depression treatment modalities. In this investigation, we conducted a comprehensive literature review of the past 5 years in PubMed and other databases utilizing the search terms "Depression," "Natural medicines," "Traditional Chinese Medicine," and "hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis." We delineated the 5 most recent and pertinent signaling pathways associated with depression and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis dysregulation: nuclear factor kappa light-chain-enhancer of activated B cell, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, mitogen-activated protein kinase, cyclic AMP/protein kinase A, and phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B. Additionally, we deliberated the antidepressant mechanisms of natural medicines comprising alkaloids, flavonoids, polyphenols, saponins, and quinones via diverse pathways. This research endeavor endeavored to encapsulate and synthesize the progression of TCMs in modulating HPA axis-associated signaling pathways to mitigate depression, thereby furnishing robust evidence for ensuing research in this domain.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Duhuo-Jisheng decoction (DJD) is a Chinese herb formula. Previous studies have reported that the clinical symptoms and laboratory indicators of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients could be improved by DJD. However, the existing evidence was not robust enough and controversial. METHODS Randomized controlled trials of DJD for RA were retrieved from Chinese and English databases from their inception to April 16, 2023. Meta-analysis was performed by Stata 17 software. We used subgroup analysis, meta-regression, and sensitivity analysis to identify potential sources of heterogeneity. The subgroup analysis and meta-regression were conducted from 6 aspects, including age, course of disease, course of treatment, interventions used in the experimental or control group, and random sequence generation. Galbraith plot was used to find studies with possible heterogeneity. Publication bias was assessed by Egger's test and funnel plots when the number of relevant studies was greater than or equal to 10. RESULTS Forty-two studies were included, involving 3635 patients and 19 outcome indicators. Meta-analysis showed that, compared with the routine disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (rDMARDs), DJD could better improve the level of laboratory indicators, main symptoms and signs, and questionnaire scores of RA patients. The laboratory indicators included rheumatoid factor, T lymphocyte subpopulation (including CD4+, CD8+, and CD4+/CD8+), and inflammatory biomarkers (including erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein, tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin 6, interleukin 1β, and interleukin 1). The main symptoms and signs included the duration of morning stiffness, the number of joint tenderness, the number of swollen joints, and the grip strength of both hands. The questionnaire included visual analogue scale, health assessment questionnaire, and disease activity score in 28 joints. In addition, the adverse events of DJD treatment were significantly lower than those of rDMARDs. However, the results of a few subgroup analyses differed from the overall results. Furthermore, the publication bias assessment showed that, out of 11 evaluated results, 4 had publication bias. CONCLUSION DJD could be a satisfactory complementary and alternative therapy for RA. However, due to a small number of subgroup analysis results being different from the overall results, it should be verified by further studies.

Abstract
RATIONALE Black hairy tongue (BHT) is a rare condition that is conventionally managed by discontinuing associated medications or habits and practicing good oral hygiene, including tongue brushing. Previous studies have indicated that black tongue coating is often associated with gastrointestinal discomfort, which traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) could be a potentially effective option for treating this condition with minimal side effects. We present a case of BHT diagnosed and treated within 2 weeks by using TCM methods. PATIENT CONCERNS A 73-year-old woman presented with a chief concern of a black tongue that had persisted for 2 weeks and was accompanied by thirst and diarrhea. These symptoms were initially observed during her hospitalization for the treatment of staghorn calculi, xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis, and urosepsis. Using the "four diagnostic methods" of TCM, we observed that her tongue had a thick black coating surrounded by a thick white coating; her tongue was of medium size with tooth marks, and its body color was light red. DIAGNOSES, INTERVENTIONS, AND OUTCOMES On the basis of TCM theory, we made a clinical diagnosis of BHT and "spleen Qi deficiency with turbid dampness," which may have been caused by the antibiotic treatment during hospitalization. Subsequently, we administered a Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) formula comprising a combination of Wu-Ling-San () and a modification of Da-Yuan-Yin (). After 2 weeks of CHM treatment, the patient's BHT was nearly eliminated, and the thick white coating and the corresponding symptoms were ameliorated. After 4 weeks of CHM treatment, the BHT was completely resolved. LESSON AND CONCLUSION We present a case of BHT, a benign condition that may be caused by antibiotics. The literature does not contain reports on TCM-based diagnosis and treatment strategies for BHT. Using the 4 diagnostic methods of TCM, we observed that BHT was associated with gastrointestinal symptoms, which is consistent with the TCM theory. Moreover, CHM treatment rapidly relieved BHT and related symptoms without adverse events.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary osteoporosis (POP) is one of the most common orthopedic conditions with a high risk of fractures. Effective treatment of POP is crucial for reducing disability rates and improving quality of life. Kidney tonic therapy is a classical traditional Chinese medicine approach for treating POP. This study aims to provide a comprehensive and reliable assessment of the clinical evidence of kidney tonic herbs (KTH) in treating POP patients. METHODS An extensive literature search was conducted in 8 electronic databases from their inception through September 30, 2022, to evaluate the efficacy and safety of KTH for POP. We included 43 randomized controlled trials with 4349 participants. The qualified studies will be chosen and evaluated separately by 2 researchers. The primary outcome measure was bone mineral density (BMD) of lumbar. RevMan 5.3 and Stata 16 were used to carry out the meta-analyses. RESULTS Our meta-analysis showed 29 studies with significantly increased lumbar BMD (mean difference [MD] = 0.06; 95% confidence interval [CI]; I2 = 98%, P = .003), 18 studies with noticeably higher femoral neck BMD (MD = 0.08; 95% CI; I2 = 98%, P = .0005), 6 studies with significantly increased femoral trochanter BMD (MD = 0.10; 95% CI; I2 = 97%, P = .002), 4 studies with noticeably higher ward's triangle BMD (MD = 0.13; 95% CI; I2 = 100%, P = .04), and 3 studies with noticeably higher distal radius BMD (MD = 0.06; 95% CI; I2 = 86%, P = .009). One study showed 12 falls and 8 fallers in the intervention group, 28 falls and 17 fallers in the control group at 36 months. 3 studies showed a significant difference in fracture incidence between the intervention group and the control group (95% CI: 0.15-0.81; I2 = 0%, P = .01). Additionally, the meta-analysis demonstrated that KTH offered superior pain relief (8 trials, n = 980; 95% CI: -1.05 to -0.74; I2 = 94%, P < .00001). Besides, KTH found no serious harmful effects. DISCUSSION KTH may increase BMD and decrease the likelihood of fractures in POP patients. However, further research is necessary to investigate the effectiveness of KTH in reducing falls and fractures.

Abstract
You-Gui-Yin (YGY) is a classic prescription for warming up kidney-Yang and filling in kidney essence in traditional Chinese medicine, and has been used to treat osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) effectively. However, the underlying mechanisms are still unknown. This study is aimed at exploring the possible mechanisms of action of the YGY in the treatment of ONFH based on network pharmacology and molecular docking. TCMSP was used to screen the active components and targets of YGY. The disease targets of ONFH were collected in several public databases. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) Network was constructed using the STRING platform. The Metascape database platform was used for Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses. The key active components and core target proteins of YGY in the treatment of ONFH were verified by the molecular docking. 120 active components were obtained from YGY, among which 73 components were hit by the 117 drug-disease intersection targets. Key effective components included quercetin, kaempferol, beta-sitosterol, glycitein, beta-carotene, and so on. Core target proteins included ALB, AKT1, TNF, IL6, TP53, and so on. According to GO and KEGG analyses, there were 1762 biological processes, 94 cellular component, 138 molecular function and 187 signaling pathways involved. we selected the top 20 biological processes (BP), cellular components (CC), molecular functions (MF) and signaling pathways to draw the heat maps, showing that Lipid and atherosclerosis signaling pathway, IL-17 signaling pathway, HIF-1 signaling pathway, relaxin signaling pathway and MAPK signaling pathway and other pathways may play a key role in the treatment of ONFH by YGY. The results of molecular docking showed that key effective components and corresponding core target proteins exhibited the good binding activity. YGY can treat ONFH through multicomponents, multitargets, and multipathways, which provides a reference for the subsequent research, development of targeted drugs and clinical application.

Abstract
Tripterygium wilfordii hook (TWH) has been used to treat Behcet's disease (BD) but its underlying mechanism remains unclear. This study aims to explore the mechanism of TWH on BD using network pharmacology and molecular docking. The bioactive constituents of TWH and their corresponding target genes were extracted from the Traditional Chinese Medicine systems pharmacology database and analysis platform. BD target genes were obtained by searching the DisGeNet and GeneCards databases. Gene ontology annotation and Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes pathway enrichment analysis were conducted to elucidate the function of overlapping genes between TWH and BD target genes. A protein-protein interaction network was constructed using Cytoscape and STRING platforms, and the core target genes were identified from the overlapping genes. Finally, molecular docking was used to assess the binding affinity between the core targets and TWH bioactive constituents. We identified 25 intersection genes related to both TWH and BD and 27 bioactive ingredients of TWH. Through analysis of protein-protein interaction network, 6 core targets (TNF, IFNG, prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2, NOS2, VCAM-1, and interleukin-2) were screened out. Enrichment analysis demonstrated that the antioxidant properties of TWH constituents might play a significant role in their therapeutic effects. Molecular docking revealed high binding affinity between the bioactive constituents of TWH, such as kaempferol, triptolide, 5, 8-Dihydroxy-7-(4-hydroxy-5-methyl-coumarin-3)-coumarin, and their corresponding target genes, suggesting the potential of TWH to treat BD. Our investigation clarified the active components, therapeutic targets of BD in the treatment of TWH and provided a theoretical foundation for further researches.

Abstract
Sarcopenia, as an increasingly pressing clinical issue, can be ameliorated through employment of traditional Chinese medicines. However, the current lack of specific pharmacological interventions for Sarcopenia necessitates further exploration of novel possibilities in traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of this condition, utilizing advanced methodologies such as web pharmacology and data mining. Screening the essential targets of Sarcopenia, conducting matching between target and active molecules, as well as active molecules and herbs. Employing data mining techniques to analyze the screening outcomes, and molecular docking to compare the binding activities of active molecules with target proteins. The approach of using herbs for the treatment of Sarcopenia involves 13 targets, with 414 active compounds and 367 types of herbs. Data mining reveals that the herbs used in treating Sarcopenia are primarily characterized by their bitter taste, exerting their effects through dispelling dampness and promoting blood circulation. Moreover, 2 new formulas are postulated. Furthermore, molecular docking analysis indicates that the main active components of the herbs can be observed to tightly bind with the targets. Through network pharmacology and molecular docking, our findings reveal that herbs contain 15 key active components and 5 key targets, which correspond to 7 major herbs and 2 new formulas. Academically, these findings hold significant reference value for the development of novel drugs targeting Sarcopenia.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Many studies have confirmed that macrophage autophagy injury negatively impacts the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis (AS). Meanwhile, the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT)/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway affects AS progression by regulating macrophage autophagy. We previously reported that the herbal formula San Jie Tong Mai Fang (SJTMF) elicits lipid regulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. Hence, the current study used an ApoE -/- high-fat diet-fed mouse model to determine whether SJTMF elicits protective effects against AS progression by means of the regulation of macrophage autophagy through the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. Our results show that SJTMF reduced the number of atherosclerotic plaques, foam cell formation, and intimal thickness in mouse aorta. In addition, SJTMF improved blood lipid metabolism and inflammatory levels in mice. We also observed that SJTMF caused macrophages to be polarized toward the M2 phenotype through the inhibition of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. In addition, the abundances of LC3-II/I and beclin1 proteins-key autophagy molecules-were increased, whereas that of p62 was decreased, resulting in the promotion of macrophage autophagy. Taken together, these findings indicate that SJTMF may regulate the polarization of macrophages by inhibiting the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway, thereby reducing atherosclerotic plaque damage in ApoE -/- mice, thereby promoting macrophage autophagy and eliciting a significant antiarteriosclerosis effect. Hence, SJTMF may represent a promising new candidate drug for the treatment of AS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease that poses a significant threat to a patient's quality of life. Commonly used drugs include glucocorticoids, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs, and biological agents; however, there are associated side effects. Complementary and alternative medicines can play positive roles. Bibliometric analysis of herbal medicines for RA has been conducted, but current research trends in nonpharmaceutical traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapies for the treatment of RA have not been studied. Here, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of the application of nonpharmaceutical TCM therapies for RA over the last 20 years. METHODS We retrieved relevant literature from the Web of Science Core Collection database and used VOSviewer and CiteSpace software for analysis. Visualized maps were then generated to display the relationships between the author, country, institution, and keywords. RESULTS A total of 567 articles were included in the final analysis. The number of annual publications on nonpharmaceutical TCM interventions for RA increased over the study period. The journal with the highest number of publications on this topic was Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine; however, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews had the most citations. Collaborations were observed among worldwide institutions, with the People's Republic of China playing a dominant role in the research on treatment of RA using nonpharmaceutical TCM therapies. Ernst E was the most productive author, with 11 articles, whereas Green S had the highest number of citations (287) at the time of retrieval. Specific improvements in the efficacy and selection of nonpharmaceutical therapies were the main research hotspots based on citation burst analysis. CONCLUSION This study characterizes the trends in the literature for nonpharmaceutical TCM therapy for RA over the past 20 years; showcasing the current research status for relevant researchers and their teams and providing a reference for future research directions.

Abstract
RATIONALE Androgenic alopecia (AGA) is a prevalent condition with progressive miniaturization of hair follicles. Currently, reliable treatments have remained limited, and complementary medications for AGA are still being investigated. Traditional Chinese medicine formulas have conspicuous advantages in the treatment of AGA with good development prospects. Zimmer aqueous spray (ZAS) is a water spray containing Zimmer herbal extract powder (ZMWP), which consists of Ligustri lucidi Fructus, Ecliptae Herba, Fallopia multiflora (Thunb.) Harald. and Polygonatum sibiricum Delar. ex Redoute, etc. ZMWP is an active ingredient in the prevention of hair loss. Our aim is to provide evidence for the effectiveness of ZAS in the treatment of AGA. PATIENT CONCERNS A 41-year-old man had suffered from hair loss for 8 years. INTERVENTIONS The patient with moderate AGA received 3 to 4 mL ZAS daily or every other day for 3 months. OUTCOMES The hair density obviously increased after 3 months of therapy. The improvement of hair diameter, vellus hair rate, and 1 hair pilosebaceous unit rate were observed with a trichoscopy and quantitatively analyzed. Besides, honeycomb pigment pattern mitigated and arborized red lines. LESSONS The results suggested that ZMWP might have the capability of improving hair growth and attenuating AGA, which can be a promising alternative treatment of AGA.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of the problem-based learning (PBL) method on Neurology education for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) undergraduate students. This observational study was conducted during the 2020/02 and 2020/04 intakes of the third year TCM undergraduate students at School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Xiamen University Malaysia. A total of 86 students were enrolled in the study and randomly assigned to either conventional learning groups or PBL groups. Students who missed more than 1 session of the course or did not complete the questionnaires during the evaluation periods were excluded from the study (n = 0). An independent sample t test was used to compare the results between the 2 groups, with a significance level set as P < .05. The PBL group demonstrated significantly higher scores in theoretical and clinical practical examinations, satisfaction with the teaching level, students perspectives, and self-learning skills. Additionally, the PBL group had significantly higher scores on the dundee ready educational environment measure compared to students in the conventional group (P < .05). The implementation of the PBL teaching method in Neurology education for TCM undergraduate students proved to be an engaging and effective learning approach. It significantly improved students learning performance and their ability to analyze and solve problems related to neurology diseases and their management knowledge.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent studies have found that cardiomyocyte apoptosis is closely associated with the pathophysiological development of various cardiovascular diseases, for example chronic heart failure and myocardial infarction. At present, there are many researches in this field, such as pharmacological research, traditional Chinese medicine intervention research and pathway research. However, the relevant research is fragmented, with few comprehensive analysis and systematic combing. METHODS The relevant literature on cardiomyocyte apoptosis was downloaded from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and PubMed databases. Citespace 6.1.R2 software Microsoft Excel 2019 and VOSviewer1.6.18.0 were used for bibliometric and visual analysis of publication volume, countries, institutions, journals, authors, keywords. RESULTS Since 1996, there are 1881 research articles and reviews related to cardiomyocyte apoptosis published by 10,313 researchers from 1648 institutions in 58 countries or regions were included. The number of annual publications showed an upward trend, especially in recent years. Countries participating in this research area include China, the United States, and Japan. Capital Medical University, Harbin Medical University are the key research institution, and other institutions also have substantial contribution on the project as to cardiomyocyte apoptosis. The journal EUR REV MED PHARMACO has a large number of publications, whereas CIRCULATION has the highest number of co-citations. Keywords analysis showed that apoptosis, expression and oxidative stress had higher frequencies, leading to 8 clusters. CONCLUSIONS Cardiomyocyte apoptosis is a hot research field in recent years. Through visualization and bibliometric analysis, it is found that this field focus on hotspots like clinical manifestations including heart failure or myocardial infarction, and microscopic mechanisms such as oxidative stress and inflammation.

Abstract
Using network pharmacology and molecular docking, we predicted the potential mechanisms of Lonicerae japonicae flos (LJF) therapy for COVID-19. A total of 493 component-related targets and 6,233 COVID-19-related genes were identified, and 267 core genes with overlapping of the two types of genes were identified. The target AKT1, CASP3, IL1B, IL6, PTGS2, TNF and JUN were the hub genes in PPI network according to MCODE score. Component-Target analysis showed the close relationship between targets and components. The results of functional enrichment analyses revealed that LJF exerted pharmacological effects on COVID-19 by regulating IL-17 signalling pathway, TNF signalling pathway, AGE-RAGE signalling pathway in diabetic complications, and Toll-like receptor signalling pathway. Finally, molecular docking confirmed a strong binding affinity between the 7 main active components with the hub genes. The findings suggested that beta-sitosterol, kaempferol and luteolin might be the promising leading components due to their good molecular docking scores.

Abstract
Mpox (MPX) has escalated into a public health emergency of international concern, necessitating urgent prophylactic and therapeutic measures. The primary goal of this investigation was to systematically extract Wan Quan's expertise in treating smallpox, as documented in Exclusive Methods for Treating Pox (Dou Zhen Xin Fa in Chinese), with the aim of identifying potential prescriptions, herbs, and components for alternative MPX therapies or drugs. This research utilized data mining to identify high-frequency Chinese Medicines (CMs), high-frequency CM-pairs, and CM compatibility rules. Network pharmacology, molecular docking, and molecular dynamic simulation were employed to reveal the potential molecular mechanisms of the core CM-pair. 119 prescriptions were extracted from Exclusive Methods for Treating Pox. We identified 25 high-frequency CMs and 23 high-frequency CM pairs among these prescriptions. Combined association rule mining analysis, Gancao (Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch.), Renshen (Panax ginseng C. A. Mey.), Danggui (Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels), Shengma (Cimicifuga foetida L.), and Zicao (Lithospermum erythrorhizon Siebold & Zucc.) were selected as the core CM-pair for further investigation. Network pharmacology analysis yielded 131 active components and 348 candidate targets for the core CM-pair. Quercetin and celabenzine were chosen as ligands for molecular docking. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses revealed that the core CM-pair could interact with targets involved in immune, inflammatory, and infectious diseases. Moreover, key mpox virus targets, F8-A22-E4 DNA polymerase holoenzyme and profilin-like protein A42R, were docked well with the selected core components. And molecular dynamic simulation indicated that the component (quercetin) could stably bind to the target (profilin-like protein A42R). Our findings identified potential prescriptions, herbs, and components that can offer potential therapies or drugs for addressing the MPX epidemic.

Abstract
Introduction As one of the most frequently diagnosed mental disorders, depression is expected to become the most common disease worldwide by 2030. Previous studies have shown that Chaihu Anxin Capsule has powerful antidepressant effects. However, its mechanisms are not fully understood. The aim of our research is to reveal the mechanisms of Chaihu Anxin Capsule in treating depression. Methods Information about the ingredients of the herb was gathered using the TCMSP. Genes associated with antidepressants were gathered from the GeneCards database. An "herbal-ingredient-target" network was constructed and analyzed using Cytoscape software. The PPI network of the antidepressant targets of Chaihu Anxin Capsule was constructed using the STRING database. KEGG pathway and GO enrichment were used to analyze the antidepressant targets. Molecular docking technology was used to confirm the capacity of the primary active ingredients of Chaihu Anxin Capsule to bind to central targets using AutoDock Vina and PyMOL software. Results Network analysis showed that five targets might be therapeutic targets of Chaihu Anxin Capsule in depression, namely, JUN, IL6, AKT1, TP53, and STAT3. The gene enrichment analysis implied that Chaihu Anxin Capsule benefits patients with depression by modulating pathways related to lipids and atherosclerosis and the AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications. Molecular docking analyses revealed that JUN, IL6, AKT1, TP53, and STAT3 had good affinities for quercetin, beta-sitosterol and kaempferol. Conclusion According to the bioinformatics data, the antidepressant effects of Chaihu Anxin Capsule may be primarily linked to cholesterol and atherosclerosis as well as the AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications. These results emphasize that the expected therapeutic targets may be possible indicators for antidepressant activity.

Abstract
The management of idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) poses a significant challenge because of its ambiguous etiology. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) combined with mammotome-assisted minimally invasive surgery (MAMIS) for the treatment of IGM. This retrospective cohort study included patients with IGM who underwent treatment at our hospital between January 2017 and June 2022. Patients treated with Shugan Sanjie decoction alone and preoperative Shugan Sanjie decoction combined with MAMIS were included in Groups A and B, respectively. We focused on the demographics, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of the patients in the 2 groups. A total of 124 female patients with an average age of 33.9 ± 3.6 years were included in the study. The demographic and clinical characteristics of patients in Groups A (n = 55) and B (n = 69) were similar (P > .05). However, there were significant differences between the 2 groups in terms of treatment duration, 1-year complete remission (CR), and recurrence. Group B showed shorter treatment time (11.7 ± 5.1 vs 15.3 ± 6.4 months, P = .001), higher 1-year CR (72.5% vs 45.5%, P = .002), and lower recurrence (7.2% vs 21.8%, P = .019) in comparison to Group A. Shugan Sanjie decoction promoted the shrinkage of breast lesions in patients with IGM. Combined with MAMIS, this treatment regimen shortened the treatment duration, accelerated the recovery process, and reduced the recurrence rate.

Abstract
Objective To explore the effects and mechanisms of a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription, "Fang-gan Decoction" (FGD), in protecting against SARS-CoV-2 spike protein-induced lung and intestinal injuries in vitro and in vivo.Methods Female BALB/c mice and three cell lines pretreated with FGD were stimulated with recombinant SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (spike protein). Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and pathologic scoring of tissues, cell permeability and viability, and angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) expression in the lung and colon were detected. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was performed to detect the levels of inflammatory factors in serum and cell supernatant. The expression of NF-κB p65, p-NF-κB p65, p-IκBα, p-Smad2/3, TGF-β1, Caspase3, and Bcl-2 was evaluated by Western blotting.Results FGD protected against the damage to the lung and colon caused by the spike protein in vivo and in vitro according to the pathologic score and cell permeability and viability (P<0.05). FGD up-regulated ACE2 expression, which was reduced by the spike protein in the lung and colon, significantly improved the deregulation of inflammatory markers caused by the spike protein, and regulated the activity of TGF-β/Smads and NF-κB signaling.Conclusion Traditional Chinese medicine has a protective effect on lung and intestinal tissue injury stimulated by the spike protein through possible regulatory functions of the NF-κB and TGF-β1/Smad pathways with tissue type specificity.

Abstract
Banxia Xiexin decoction (BXD), a famous traditional Chinese prescription constituted by Pinelliae Rhizoma, Zingiberis Rhizoma, Scutellariae Radix, Coptidis Rhizoma, Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Jujubae Fructus and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata Cum Mell, has notable characteristics of acrid-opening, bitter down-bearing and sweet-tonification, interfering with tumors, gastrointestinal diseases, central nervous system diseases and much more. Based on the wide clinical applications, current investigations of BXD focused on several aspects: chemical analysis to explore the underlying substrates responsible for the therapeutic effects; basic studies on pharmacological actions of the whole prescription or of those representative ingredients to demonstrate the intriguing molecular targets for specific pathological processes; pharmacokinetic feature studies of single or all components of BXD to reveal the chemical basis and synergistic actions contributing to the pharmacological and clinically therapeutic effects. In this review, we summarized the main achievements of phytochemical, pharmacological, clinical and pharmacokinetic profiles of BXD and its herbal or pharmacologically active chemicals, as well as discussions of our understanding which further reveals the significance of BXD clinically.

Abstract
To analyze the mechanism of Astragalus membranaceus (AM) in molecular level in the oral ulcer (OU) treatment with reference to network pharmacology. Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform database was used in screening the AM active components and AM action targets; GeneCards database was used to screen OU targets; the common target were screened by Venny online tool; Cytoscape software was applied to construct the target gene regulation map of AM active components; STRING database was used to construct the protein-protein interaction network and the key targets were screened as per degree value; gene ontology enrichment and KEGG pathway enrichment of interactive genes were calculated through David database. There were 17 active ingredients and 429 target spots in Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform database. There are 606 target genes for OU in GeneCards database. There are 67 common targets, including 10 key targets: IL10, IL6, TNF, IL1B, CXCL8, CCL2, TLR4, IL4, ICAM1, and IFNG. It involves 30 gene ontology terms and 20 KEGG signal channels. The molecular docking results showed that quercetin and kaempferol had a good binding activity with IL6, IL1B, TNF, and CCL2. Network pharmacological analysis shows that AM can regulate multiple signal pathways through multiple targets to treat OU.

Abstract
Psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease with a complex etiology involving environmental and genetic factors. Psoriasis patients often require long-term treatment. Shanyaotianua decoction (STT), a typical traditional Chinese medicine prescription, positively affects psoriasis, although its molecular targets remain unknown. To elucidate its molecular mechanisms, a combination of network pharmacology, bioinformatics analysis, and drug similarity comparisons were employed. Participants were separated into 3 groups: non-lesional (NL), lesions after medication (LM), and psoriasis lesion groups (LS). Based on the Gene Ontology/kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes enrichment analyses, the key targets were mainly enriched for biological processes (immuno-inflammatory responses, leukocyte differentiation, lipid metabolic disorders, and viral infection) with the relevant pathways (Janus kinase/signal transducers and activators of transcription and adipocytokine signaling and T-helper 17 cell differentiation), thus identifying the possible action mechanism of STT against psoriasis. Target prediction for 18 STT compounds that matched the screening criteria was performed. Then, the STT compounds were intersected with the differentially expressed genes of the psoriatic process, and 5 proteins were potential targets for STT. Based on the open-source toolkit RDKit and DrugBank database, and through molecular docking and drug similarity comparisons, spinasterol, diosgenin, and 24-Methylcholest-5-enyl-3belta-O-glucopyranoside_qt may be potential drugs for psoriasis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Parkinson disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease, which has impacts on the patient's quality of life due to non-motor symptoms such as sleep disorders, anxiety, and depression. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has gained increasing attention in the diagnosis and treatment of PD with the concept of "overall concepts and dialectical treatment." Therefore, exploring the characteristics of TCM in the treatment of PD can improve the level of diagnosis and treatment of PD. METHODS A comprehensive literature search was conducted using the following electronic databases: PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure. The inclusion criteria were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared TCM intervention with conventional treatments or placebo for non-motor symptoms in PD. The quality of the included RCTs was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. RESULTS A total of 9 RCTs involving 1714 participants with PD were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. The meta-analysis showed that TCM was effective in improving non-motor symptoms, including depression (Hamilton depression rating scale [HAMD], weighted mean difference [WMD] = 4.24, 95% CI = 2.84-5.65, P < .0001), anxiety (HAMA, WMD = 4.03, 95% CI = 2.64-5.41, P < .0001), autonomic dysfunction (Scales for Outcomes in Parkinson's disease-Autonomic, WMD = 4.57, 95% CI = 1.69-7.45, P = .002), non-motor symptoms (Movement Disorder Society-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale-part 1, WMD = 0.66, 95% CI = 0.20-1011, P = .004), and quality of life (PDQ-39, WMD = 6.72, 95% CI = 0.87-12.58, P < .05), compared with baseline. Zishen Pingchan granules was particularly effective for depression (HAMD, WMD = -1.94, 95% CI = -3.07 to -0.81, P < .001, compared to placebo; HAMD, WMD = 3.40, 95% CI = 0.52-6.28, P < .05, after treatment). Pingchan granules was particularly effective for quality of life after treatment (PDQ-39, WMD = 10.20, 95% CI = 1.87-18.53, P < .05). CONCLUSIONS TCM is effective and safety for improvement of depression, anxiety, autonomic dysfunctions, and quality of life in PD. Zishen Pingchan granules was particularly effective for depression; and Pingchan granules was particularly effective for quality of life.

Abstract
The objective was to investigate the potential cardiac arrhythmia-related target proteins and molecular mechanisms underlying the anti-arrhythmic effects of Sophora flavescens using network pharmacology and molecular docking. The bioactive ingredients and related target proteins of S flavescens obtained from the Traditional Chinese medicine systems pharmacology data platform, and gene names for target proteins were obtained from the UniProt database. Arrhythmia-related genes were identified by screening GeneCards and Online Mendelian inheritance in man databases. A Venn diagram was used to identify the key arrhythmia-related genes that are potentially targeted by the bioactive ingredients of S flavescens. Furthermore, CytoScape 3.7.2 software was used to construct an "ingredient-target" network diagram and the "drug-ingredient-target-disease" network diagram. We performed gene ontology and Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes enrichment analysis in the Metascape database and performed the docking analysis using CB-Dock software. We identified 45 main bioactive ingredients, from S flavescens and 66 arrhythmia-related target proteins. Gene ontology and Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes pathway enrichment analysis showed that these targets were related to the chemical carcinogenesis-receptor activation signaling pathway, lipid and atherosclerosis signaling pathway, and fluid shear stress and atherosclerosis signaling pathway. Molecular docking showed that the target protein had good binding power with the main active components of the compound of S flavescens. Our study demonstrated the synergistic effects of multiple bioactive components of S flavescens on multiple arrhythmia-related target proteins and identified potential therapeutic mechanisms underlying the anti-arrhythmic effects of S flavescens, providing new clinical ideas for arrhythmia treatment.

Abstract
Tourette syndrome (TS) is a chronic neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by involuntary motor and speech tics, which can greatly reduce the quality of life of patients. The pathophysiology of TS involves both genetic and environmental factors. Assessing TS pathogenesis is complex, and its underlying pathophysiology is not fully understood. It is gratifying that the research in the past 5 years has brought new research progress on the genetic, neurophysiological and brain network changes of TS. However, despite the progress of research, the treatment methods and drugs of modern medicine are still unsatisfactory, and it is difficult to achieve satisfactory results. Traditional Chinese medicine, as a part of complementary and alternative medicine, has unique efficacy in the treatment of TS, and the safety of its treatment is also worthy of attention. Based on the latest achievements in the pathophysiology of TS, this article will discuss the treatment of TS by acupuncture combined with medicine.

Abstract
Modified bazhen decoction (MBZD) is a classical Chinese medicine formula with potential efficacy in the treatment of chronic cerebral circulation insufficiency (CCCI), and its main components and potential mechanisms are still unclear. The study aimed to investigate the active ingredients and mechanism of action of MBZD in treating CCCI through network pharmacology combined with molecular docking. The chemical composition and targets of 11 Chinese herbs in MBZD were retrieved utilizing the traditional Chinese medicine systems pharmacology database and analysis platform platform, and the targets for CCCI were screened by Genecards, online mendelian inheritance in man, therapeutic target database, and comparative toxicogenomics database databases. The targets were genetically annotated with the Uniprot database. We created a compound-target network employing Cytoscape software and screened the core targets for the treatment of CCCI by CytoNCA clustering analysis; the AutoDock Vina program performed molecular docking study of crucial targets. One thousand one hundred ninety-one active compounds were obtained, 2210 corresponding targets were predicted, 4971 CCCI-related targets were obtained, and 136 intersecting genes were identified between them. The central core targets were IL6, MAPK14, signal transducer and activator of transcription 3, RELA, VEGFA, CCND1, CASP3, AR, FOS, JUN, EGFR, MAPK1, AKT1, MYC, and ESR1; gene ontology functional enrichment analysis yielded 911 gene ontology items (P < .01), while Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment yielded 138 signal pathways (P < .01), primarily including oxidative reactions, vascular regulation, apoptosis, and PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. The molecular docking results showed that the core active component of MBZD had good binding with the main target. This research initially uncovered the mechanism of action of MBZD via multi-component-multi-target-multi-pathway for the treatment of CCCI, providing the theoretical basis for the clinical application of MBZD.

Abstract
RATIONALE The morbidity and mortality of lung cancer rank the first among all kinds of cancer. In China, anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive pulmonary tumors account for nearly 5% of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and these patients are quite likely to develop brain metastases, as high as around 45%. Although anaplastic lymphoma kinase-tyrosine kinase inhibitors crizotinib and alectinib have proved effective for controlling tumor metastases to the brain, drug resistance and disease progression cannot be ignored in the course of treatment. PATIENT CONCERNS Most of the literature reports that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has produced satisfactory results in the treatment of cancer patients as an adjuvant treatment for various malignancies in a 53-year-old male patient who developed advanced NSCLC with brain metastases. As first-line crizotinib and erlotinib treatments were ineffective and the intracranial lesions progressed extensively, the patient chose to receive TCM treatment alone in the hope of prolonging his life and improving his quality of life. DIAGNOSES A 53-year-old male patient who developed advanced NSCLC with brain metastasis. Because first-line crizotinib and alectinib have failed, and the intracranial lesions progressed in a large area. INTERVENTIONS The patient requested that the final therapeutic strategy be Chinese medicine as monotherapy for long-term treatment. The patient took 30 mL of the decoction 1 hour after a meal, 3 times a day. The patient was not treated with dehydrating agents or diuretics during the TCM treatment. OUTCOMES The improvement was obvious after 3 months of treatment, and significant reduction of cranial lesions. During the follow-up period, the patient developed neither severe liver damage nor kidney damage. LESSONS This case is the first 1 in the world where TCM was introduced as monotherapy for severe conditions with extensive brain metastases and achieved remarkable efficacy.
