Abstract
Schistosomiasis was once heavily endemic in Jiangsu Province. Following the control efforts for several decades, schistosomiasis was almost eradicated in all endemic counties in Jiangsu Province in 1980, and transmission control was achieved in the province in 2011. According to the principle of "implementing the control measures with adaptation to local circumstances and guiding the control programs with classified interventions", an integrated strategy with emphasis on the management of both infectious sources and snails has been recently employed for schitsosomiasis control in Jiangsu Province. In addition, a sensitive and highly effective surveillance system has been built and the application of novel techniques and information construction has been intensified to effectively interrupt the transmission of schistosomiasis in the Province. Transmission interruption of schistosomiasis was achieved in all endemic counties in Jiangsu Province. The paper summarizes the endemic situation of schistosomiasis, progress of schistosomiasis control, and major schistosomiasis control measures implemented during the stage of transmission interruption in Jiangsu Province.

Abstract
Glaucoma surgery is one of the main methods of glaucoma treatment. In recent years, glaucoma surgery has been greatly developed. Minimally invasive surgical procedures for glaucoma have emerged. Patients and surgeons have also increased their expectations of surgery. However, due to the limitation of surgical controllability, the prediction of postoperative efficacy is still not satisfactory. By analyzing the principles and limitations of the existing surgical procedures, the authors put forward the premise of the controllability of glaucoma extrafiltration surgery as that the intraoperative filtration excess can be restricted, so as to effectively avoid the early postoperative complications such as shallow anterior chamber, hypotony and strong inflammation. And within 1 month after surgery, through the filtration of the bubble and the removal of the adjustable suture, the ideal filtration state is gradually achieved. With the controllable maintenance of intraocular pressure at 1 month after surgery, it is possible to effectively predict the intraocular pressure level of 2 years or longer. Abstract
Autonomous robotic surgery systems aim to improve patient outcomes by leveraging the repeatability and consistency of automation and also reducing human induced errors. However, intraoperative autonomous soft tissue tracking and robot control still remains a challenge due to the lack of structure, and high deformability of such tissues. In this paper, we take advantage of biocompatible Near-Infrared (NIR) marking methods and develop a supervised autonomous 3D path planning, filtering, and control strategy for our Smart Tissue Autonomous Robot (STAR) to enable precise and consistent incisions on complex 3D soft tissues. Our experimental results on cadaver porcine tongue samples indicate that the proposed strategy reduces surface incision error and depth incision error by 40.03% and 51.5%, respectively, compared to a teleoperation strategy via da Vinci. Furthermore, compared to an autonomous path planning method with linear interpolation between the NIR markers, the proposed strategy reduces the incision depth error by 48.58% by taking advantage of 3D tissue surface information.

Background
In clinical situation, patients with myocardial infarction (MI) usually suffered from hyperlipidemia, hypertension, renal dysfunction or diabetes as well and the interaction of those risk factors may affect the effectiveness of ACEI. Dendritic cell (DC) is a potent central immunoregulator that orchestrates various types of inflammatory cells in innate and adoptive immunity. The role of DCs in the inflammation of cardiovascular disease is a hotspot of international research.
Purpose
To investigate the improvement of cardiac remodeling and inflammatory immune response after MI via ACEI regulating DCs and explore that whether the protective effect of ACEI is under the circumstance of hyperlipidemia.
Methods
In vivo, MI mice models were created via coronary artery ligation. We detected the survival and left ventricular function on day 7 after MI. Tissue samples of the myocardium, spleen, bone marrow and peripheral blood were obtained and assessed for Ang2 concentration, inflammatory cytokines and DCs expression via immunohistochemistry, ELISA, flow cytometry and western blot. In vitro, we treated DCs with ox-LDL+AngIIfor 48 hours simulating the internal environment of MI in ApoE−/− mice to explore the mechanism involved in the DCs maturation and inflammation.
Results
Under the circumstance of hyperlipidemia, the cardioprotective effect of ACEI is attenuated through regulating DCs maturation and inflammation after MI, including survival rate (Figure 1) and left ventricular function. The number of DCs in cardiac tissue were increased in MI mice with hyperlipidemia (Figure 2), when compared with the WT group. The expression of the maturity phenotype related molecules, such as CD83, on the DCs in spleen were also increased in the ApoE−/− mice. Then, the expressions of inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-6 and TNF-α. In vitro, it was found that the immune maturation and inflammation of DCs could be further induced by ox-LDL on the basis of AngIItreatment, as indicated by the upregulation of CD83 and CD86, the expressions of cytokines and chemokines. Furthermore, ox-LDL could activate the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) signaling pathway, promoting the phosphorylation of interleukin-1 receptor associated kinase (IRAK)-4 and the nuclear transferring of nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB).
Conclusion
We proved ACEI reduces the recruitment of DCs to the infarct, leading to a higher survival rate and improved function and remodeling through decreased inflammation resulting from immune response after MI. However, this effect was inhibited under the circumstance of hyperlipidemia. TLR4-MyD88 signaling pathway might be the possible molecular mechanism involved in the immune maturation and inflammation of DCs induced by ox-LDL on the basis of AngII.

Background
The etiology of bicuspid aortic valve disease (BAVD) is still unclear. Recent studies have demonstrated elevated prevalence of genetic defects in BAV patients with root phenotype, which includes aortic regurgitation and root-predominant dilatation.
Purpose
The present study intended to illustrate the feature of genetic defects among early-onset BAV patients with isolated severe aortic regurgitation.
Methods
From June 2015 to December 2017, whole exome sequencing was performed upon 27 BAVD patients with isolated severe aortic regurgitation under 45 years in our institution. Patients were categorized into right-left (R-L, n=16) and non-RL (n=11) cusp fusion types, and those with complex cardiac defects were excluded from the present study.
Results
Among 27 patients with a median age of 30.5 (18–44) years, only one was female with a rare left-non-coronary cusp fusion type. The prevalence of root phenotype was markedly higher in RL patients (56.3% vs 9.1%, p=0.018). In RL patients, the numbers of rare genetic variants (RGVs) were 15 in extracellular matrix genes, 8 in TGF-β signaling pathway genes, 2 in smooth muscle cell contraction apparatus genes, and 3 in familiar BAV related genes. In non-RL patients, the number of RGVs were 15, 3, 4, and 5, respectively. On the other hand, the number of RGVs in above gene clusters were 9, 6, 3, 2 in patients with a root phenotype, and 21, 5, 3, 6 in those without. Eight recurrent genetic variants were identified in 6 genes (see Table). An interesting observation was that ADAMTS2 variants were exclusively found among non-RL patients without root phenotype, as FBN2 variants among RL patients with root phenoype.

Conclusion
Recurrent genetic variants could be identified in a cohort of early-onset BAVD patients with isolated severe aortic regurgitation and staggering male predominance. The incidence and clinical relevance of these variants should be validated in an extended real-world BAV cohort.

Background
Previous studies reported controversial Left ventricular (LV) function impairment and pathophysiology in patients with coronary slow flow (CSF). Greater arterial load has been shown to increase aortic impedance and endothelial shear stress, potentially affecting coronary anatomy and function. We investigated LV systolic function by a new layer-specific strain technology and assessed the association between pulsatile arterial load and contractility.
Methods and results
A total of 70 patients with CSF and 50 controls with normal coronary angiography were included in the study. Layer-specific longitudinal and circumferential strains were assessed from endocardium, mid-myocardium and epicardium (GLS-endo, GLS-mid, GLS-epi and GCS-endo, GCS-mid, GCS-epi) by two-dimensional speckle tracking imaging (2D-STI). Pulsatile arterial load was estimated by indexed arterial compliance (ACI). Layer-specific GLS showed a decreasing gradient from the endocardium to the epicardium in both controls and CSF group. GLS-endo and GLS-mid in CSF group were significantly lower than the control group (all P<0.05). Layer-specific longitudinal strain showed a good correlation with the number of affected coronary arteries (all P<0.05) and the mean thrombolysis in myocardial infarction frame count (TFC) (all P<0.05). ACI was lower in CSF patients (P=0.005) and ACI was correlated negatively with layer-specific GLS (all P<0.05).
Conclusion
Layer-specific evaluation of the LV provides an understanding of the layer-specific properties of the LV wall and the possible process of the LV impairment in patients with CSF. Greater pulsatile arterial load, as manifested by a lower ACI, is coupled with worse LV longitudinal function in CSF patients.

Objective
A new technique has been devised to treat mitral regurgitation (MR) through the transapical route by replicating the edge-to-edge repair surgery. This system encompasses an easy-to-use leaflet clamp and a smaller-sized delivery system (14F–16F). We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of this device in a porcine model of acute MR.
Methods
Acute MR was induced in 36 anesthetized porcine subjects by severing the major chordae supporting the corresponding segment of the leaflet. This device was then transapically implanted on the prolapsing segment under 3D epicardial echocardiographic guidance. All of the animals were killed 30 days after the procedure to verify the proper location of the implanted devices.
Results
Cutting the major chordae induced an eccentric MR jet (MR grade: 3+, 27.8%/4+, 72.2%) in all of the animals. Every single pig was then successfully implanted with one clamp. The duration of catheterization ranged from 18 to 40 minutes. Overt MR reduction was observed following the procedure through echocardiography; residual MR was mild in 8 cases, trivial in 19 cases, and absent in 9 cases. In terms of hemodynamic parameters, the mean and maximum mitral valve pressure gradients were increased significantly (p<0.01), but these values were less than 4 mmHg in all of the cases. Autopsy demonstrated that all but one device were precisely placed to clip the prolapsing segment of the mitral valve, and there was no evidence of thrombosis, thromboembolism or impairment of the cardiac structure.

Conclusions
Transapical implantation of the novel mitral valve repair device is effective and safe in reducing acutely induced MR in pigs; thus, suggesting that it has great potential for clinical benefit in patients with MR.

Background
Atherosclerotic plaque formation and rupture is the primary cause for cardiovascular diseases. It's known that cell death and inflammation are crucial processes leading to atherosclerosis, which involves an important role of histamine. The aim of the present study is to determine the function of signal transducer and activator of transcription 6 (STAT6) in histamine-induced macrophage pyroptosis and plaque instability.
Methods
We constructed APOE/STAT6 double knock out (DKO) mice via hybridization of ApoE−/− and STAT6−/− mice. 20 ApoE−/− mice (control) and 20 DKO mice were challenged with high-fat diet for 12 weeks while 10 in each group were intraperitoneally infused with histamine (400ug/kg) every other day. The extent and instability of atherosclerotic plaque were determined by oil-red staining, HE staining, immunofluorescence staining and electron microscopy. Changes in subsets of immune cells were evaluated by flow cytometry. Plasma cytokines were assessed by ELISA. Microarray analysis was applied to detect gene expressions while Western blot and real-time PCR was used to assess gene expression levels.
Results
Morphology studies revealed that histamine could promote plaque formation and vulnerability in ApoE−/− mice, whereas this effect was inhibited in DKO mice. FACS data showed that histamine injection could increase CD11b+Ly6Chigh M1 macrophages differentiation and pyroptosis and facilitate foam cells formation in ApoE−/− mice, which was also inhibited in DKO mice. Microarray analysis and in vitro studies exhibited that histamine could induce the up-regulation of pyrotosis-related proteins such as NLRP3, caspase-1 and MMPs via a STAT6-dependent pathway to promote macrophage pyroptosis and foam cell formation.
Conclusions
We have characterized a novel role for histamine in modulating atherosclerotic lesion development and progression. Moreover, our work have figured out the detailed mechanisms by which histamine modulates the pyroptosis of macrophages and the progress of unstable atherosclerotic plaques. We envision that this study may provide several potential therapeutic targets benefit for atherosclerosis treatment.

Background
Although his bundle pacing (HBP) can achieve physiological electrical activation of the ventricles, its clinical use is limited by lower success rates, high and unstable pacing thresholds and loss of capture. Left bundle branch pacing (LBBP) has been proved to be able to correct Left bundle branch block (LBBB) and generate a narrower QRS duration than conventional RV pacing. However, its effects on ventricular synchronism and contraction function remains unknown. The current study is aimed to compare the echocardiographic characteristics between HBP and LBBP, and to explore whether LBBP leads to a comparable cardiac synchrony and deformation in comparison with HBP.
Methods
Forty-six pacing-indicated patients were prospectively enrolled. Twenty-nine patients underwent LBBP (17 male patients, mean age 69.6±13.7yrs, the LBBP group) and 17 patients underwent HBP (13 male patients, mean age 70.4±14.7yrs, the HBP group). LBBP was achieved by trans-septal method in the basal ventricular septum. Left ventricular end diastolic volume (LVEDV), left ventricular end systolic volume (LVESV), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and tricuspid annulus plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) were obtained. Strains and time to peak strains of right ventricular free wall and 16 left ventricle segments were analyzed using two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D STE). The standard deviation of time to peak strains of 16 left ventricular segments was calculated as PSD.
Results
Compared to the baseline, time to peak longitudinal strain (TTPS) of apical septum, apical lateral wall were shortened after 6 months of HBP, while they didn't change significantly after 6 months of LBBP. After pacemaker implantation, the LBBP group had a delayed TTPS of apical septum, apical lateral wall and basal RV free wall than the HBP group (LBBP vs. HBP: apical septum,358.44±61.98ms vs. 296.43±29.47ms; apical lateral wall, 373.11±55.80ms vs. 299.00±83.45ms; basal RV free wall, 404.31±72.93ms vs. 334.50±39.95ms, all p<0.05).However, PSD was comparable between the two groups (p>0.05).
Compared to the baseline, global left ventricular longitudinal strain (LVGLS) and longitudinal strain of RV free wall (RVLS) were deteriorated after 6 months of HBP, while they were preserved in the LBBP group. After 6-month pacing, LVGLS and RVLS were significantly stronger in the LBBP group than those in the HBP group. (LVGLS, −16.10±3.75% vs. −13.18±4.11%; RVLS, −17.50±5.46% vs. −13.70±4.35%, both p<0.05).
Conclusion
Patients received LBBP had a comparable left ventricular synchronism and a better myocardial contraction compared to patients with HBP. LBBP may be a promising alternative pacing strategy. Two-dimensional STE is more sensitive than conventional echocardiography in assessing cardiac synchrony and segmental deformation.

Abstract
Objective: To study the damage and mechanism of intestinal mucosal barrier function in mice with ulcerative colitis induced by Dextran sulphate sodium (DSS). Methods: Mice models of chronic ulcerative colitis induced by DSS were established. The mice were completely randomized into normal control group and DSS group, 25 mice in each group. The body weight and colon length of the mice were monitored. The pathological examination of colon tissue was confirmed the success of the model and assessed the integrity of the colonic mucosal barrier; Evan's Blue's intestinal permeability analysis assessed the function of colon mucosal barrier; immunofluorescence staining and Western blot were used to evaluate the expression of intestinal mucosal barrier integrity-related proteins. Results: Compared with the normal control group, the DSS group had lower body weight [(25.6±0.7)g vs (23.5±0.7)g, t=2.14, P<0.05], and the colon length was shorter [(7.3±0.4)cm vs (5.6±0.2)cm, t=3.975, P<0.001]; colonic pathological results showed that the intestinal mucosa became thinner and part of the intestinal mucosa was defective; Evan's Blue instilled into the intestinal lumen was more abundant into the intestinal mucosa, and the optical density at 620 nm (OD(620))/colon tissue weight (g) was higher [(0.11±0.01) vs (0.15±0.01), t=4.174, P<0.05]; immunofluorescence and Western blot results showed lower expression of ZO-1, Claudin-1, and F-actin in colonic mucosa. Conclusion: The structure and function of intestinal mucosal barrier in DSS-induced chronic ulcerative colitis mice is impaired.

Transport stress affects the animal's metabolism and psychological state. As a pro-survival pathway, the heat shock response (HSR) protects healthy cells from stressors. However, it is unclear whether the HSR plays a role in transport stress-induced heart damage. To evaluate the effects of transport stress on heart damage and HSR protection, newly hatched chicks were treated with transport stress for 2 h, 4 h and 8 h. Transport stress caused decreases in body weight and increases in serum creatine kinase (CK) activity, nitric oxide (NO) content in heart tissue, cardiac nitric oxide syntheses (NOS) activity and NOS isoforms transcription. The mRNA expression of heat shock factors (HSFs, including HSF1-3) and heat shock proteins (HSPs, including HSP25, HSP40, HSP47, HSP60, HSP70, HSP90 and HSP110) in the heart of 2 h transport-treated chicks was upregulated. After 8 h of transport stress in chicks, the transcription levels of the same HSPs and HSF2 were reduced in the heart. It was also found that the changes in the HSP60, HSP70 and HSP90 protein levels had similar tendencies. These results suggested that transport stress augmented NO generation through enhancing the activity of NOS and the transcription of NOS isoforms. Therefore, this study provides new evidence that transport stress induces heart damage in the newly hatched chicks by blocking the cytoprotective HSR and augmenting NO production.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the adhesion effect of tissue engineering retinal nerve scaffolds modified with biological glue. Methods: Experimental study. To fabricate a biological glue by blending laminin, collagen Ⅳ, entactin and HSPG(2) with phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) buffer solution, scaffolds were then modified with the biological glue of various concentration levels (10 μl/cm(2), 20 μl/cm(2), 30 μl/cm(2) and 40 μl/cm(2)). The effects of various concentration levels glue on inducing scaffold adhesion were analyzed after 24 h. Cell count method and CCK-8 kit were used to assess the effects of biological glue on cell growth and toxicity. Then the scaffolds modified with or without glue were transplanted into rabbit's retina by 23 G pars plana vitrectomy. Intraocular pressure(IOP) and retina examination were assessed by ICare, fundus photograph and OCT. The adhesion effects of various concentration levels glue were analyzed by chi-square test. The cell adhesion rate of different scaffolds was analyzed by Mann-Whitney U test. One-Way ANOVA was used to compare the cell survival rate of different scaffolds. After transplantation, the IOP variance of rabbits was analyzed by repetitive measurement deviation analysis. Results: Compared with the control groups, the maximum adhesion rate of the biological glue was 91.7% (χ(2)=8.79, P<0.05) at 30μl/cm(2) concentration level. After 24h of cultivation, cell adhesion rate of glue-scaffold group (86.85%) was significantly higher than that of pure scaffold group (13.78%, U=0.01, P<0.05), while there was no significant difference between the cell survival rates of the two groups (F=7.235, P=0.11). There was no significant difference (F=79.16, P=0.07) between the IOP of viscosity modified group [(18.4+0.93) mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa)] and non- modified group [(17.1±0.04)mmHg]. The retina adhesion rate of viscosity modified scaffold was 80% at 7 days postoperatively, and the fundus examination showed no inflammatory response in retina and vitreous cavity. Conclusion: This study showed that the biological glue has favorable viscosity modifying effect on tissue engineering neural retina scaffolds, which is beneficial for the biological material transplantation. Abstract
Aims The purpose of this study was to evaluate the long-term outcome of adolescents with cerebral palsy who have undergone single-event multilevel surgery for a flexed-knee gait, followed into young adulthood using 3D motion analysis. Patients and Methods A total of 59 young adults with spastic cerebral palsy, with a mean age of 26 years (sd 3), were enrolled into the study in which their gait was compared with an evaluation that had taken place a mean of 12 years (sd 2) previously. At their visits during adolescence, the children walked with excessive flexion of the knee at initial contact and surgical or therapeutic interventions were not controlled between visits. Results Based on the change in flexed-knee gait over approximately ten years, improvements were seen in increased Gait Deviation Index (p < 0.001) and decreased flexion of the knee at initial contact (p < 0.001). Greater popliteal angle (p < 0.001), reduced Gross Motor Function Measure section D (p = 0.006), and reduced speed of gait (p = 0.007) suggested a mild decline in function. Quality-of-life measures showed that these patients fell within normal limits compared with typical young adults in areas other than physical function. Conclusion While some small significant changes were noted, little clinically significant change was seen in function and gait, with gross motor function maintained between adolescence and young adulthood. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the expression of human long non-coding ribonucleic acid (lncRNA) small nucleolar RNA host gene 1 (SNHG1) in epithelial ovarian carcinoma tissues and its effects on the in vitro proliferation, apoptosis, invasion and metastasis of ovarian carcinoma cells, and to investigate its possible mechanism. PATIENTS AND METHODS The expressions of SNHG1 in 20 pairs of epithelial ovarian carcinoma tissues and para-carcinoma normal tissues were detected by Real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The expressions of SNHG1 in normal ovarian epithelial cells (IOSE25) and ovarian carcinoma cells (CAOV-3, SKOV-3, ES2 and A2780) were further detected. The knockdown efficiency of SNHG1 small interfering RNA (siRNA) in SKOV-3 cells was detected via qRT-PCR. Moreover, the effects of SNHG1 knockdown on proliferation, migration and apoptosis of SKOV-3 cells were detected by cell counting kit 8 (CCK8) proliferation assay, clone formation assay, transwell migration assay and flow cytometry. Finally, the expressions of apoptosis-related proteins, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related proteins and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in control group and interference group were detected by Western blotting. RESULTS The expression level of lncRNA SNHG1 in ovarian carcinoma tissues was significantly higher than that in para-carcinoma normal tissues. After lncRNA SNHG1 knockdown in SKOV-3 cells, the cell proliferation and clone formation abilities were significantly inhibited. The apoptosis assay proved that inhibiting lncRNA SNHG1 could promote the apoptosis of SKOV-3 cells. Besides, Western blotting revealed that the expressions of pro-apoptotic proteins in interference group were significantly upregulated compared with those in control group. Wound-healing assay and transwell migration assay showed that the down-regulation of lncRNA SNHG1 could inhibit the invasion and metastasis of SKOV-3 cells, whose mechanism was related to the inhibition of EMT process and down-regulation of expressions of MMPs. CONCLUSIONS LncRNA SNHG1 is highly expressed in ovarian carcinoma, which can promote the growth, invasion and metastasis of ovarian carcinoma cells. The down-regulation of SNHG1 can inhibit the proliferation, invasion and metastasis of SKOV-3 cells. Inhibiting the expression of SNHG1 may be a potentially effective means of treating ovarian carcinoma.

Abstract
Transportation of newly hatched chicks from the hatchery to the farm is inevitable, especially for parent stock and grandsire parent stock chicks. However, the possible effects of transport stress in the newly hatched chicks are poorly understood. The aim of this study was to determine the adaptive responses to transport stress by activing the nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)-induced antioxidant defense. One hundred twenty newly hatched chicks were divided into 3 groups (control group, transport group, and simulation transport group) for 2, 4, and 8 h of real or simulated transportation. Transport stress could cause oxidative stress in the cerebrum of newly hatched chicks by increasing lipid peroxidation and production of free radicals and decreasing the activities of antioxidant enzymes and the glutathione:oxidized glutathione ratio. Transport stress activated the Nrf2 signaling pathway and triggered the transcription of antioxidant parameters. However, transport stress-induced cerebrum oxidative stress was not mitigated by activating the Nrf2 antioxidant defense response in newly hatched chicks.

Abstract
We studied the emission of bare and aluminum quinoline (Alq3)/gold coated wurtzite GaN nanorods by temperature- and intensity-dependent time-integrated and time-resolved photoluminescence (PL). The GaN nanorods of ∼1.5 μm length and ∼250 nm diameter were grown by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy. Gold/Alq3 coated GaN nanorods were synthesized by organic molecular beam deposition. The near band-edge and donor-acceptor pair luminescence was investigated in bare GaN nanorods and compared with multilevel model calculations providing the dynamical parameters for electron-hole pairs, excitons, impurity bound excitons, donors and acceptors. Subsequently, the influence of a 10 nm gold coating without and with an Alq3 spacer layer was studied and the experimental results were analyzed with the multilevel model. Without a spacer layer, a significant PL quenching and lifetime reduction of the near band-edge emission is found. The behavior is attributed to surface band-bending and Förster energy transfer from excitons to surface plasmons in the gold layer. Inserting a 5 nm Alq3 spacer layer reduces the PL quenching and lifetime reduction which is consistent with a reduced band-bending and Förster energy transfer. Increasing the spacer layer to 30 nm results in lifetimes which are similar to uncoated structures, showing a significantly decreased influence of the gold coating on the excitonic dynamics.

Abstract
The bacterial diversity and community structure involved in Chinese sauerkraut is one of the most important factors shaping the final characteristics of traditional foods. In this research, Lactobacillus casei 11MZ-5-1 was applied in Chinese sauerkraut fermentation as a starter culture. Illumina Miseq sequencing analysis was used to reveal the bacterial diversity and community structure during Chinese sauerkraut fermentation. A total of 177 283 high-quality reads of 16S rRNA V4 regions were obtained. The inoculation of L. casei 11MZ-5-1 decreased considerably the bacterial richness and bacterial diversity. This inoculum led to the replacement of Lactococcus by Lactobacillus. The levels of Pseudomonas and Enterobacter bacteria decreased. These findings reveal the evolution of important bacterial groups that are involved in fermentation and will facilitate improvements in the Chinese sauerkraut fermentation process. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY This research thoroughly revealed the effects of Lactobacillus casei 11MZ-5-1 starter cultures on bacterial communities during Chinese sauerkraut fermentation. Illumina Miseq sequencing was effective technique to monitor the bacterial diversity and community structure. The inoculation of L. casei 11MZ-5-1 led to the decline of bacterial richness and diversity together with a consistent predominance of Lactobacillus during spontaneous fermentation. The result collectively suggested L. casei 11MZ-5-1 is a promising starter in Chinese sauerkraut manufacturing.

Abstract
Subcortical white matter injury is often accompanied by orofacial motor dysfunction, but little is known about the structural substrates accounting for these common neurological deficits. We studied the trajectory of the corticobulbar projection from the orofacial region of the primary (M1), ventrolateral (LPMCv), supplementary (M2), rostral cingulate (M3) and caudal cingulate (M4) motor regions through the corona radiata (CR), internal capsule (IC) and crus cerebri of the cerebral peduncle (ccCP). In the CR each pathway was segregated. Medial motor area fibers (M2/M3/M4) arched over the caudate and lateral motor area fibers (M1/LPMCv) curved over the putamen. At superior IC levels, the pathways were widespread, involving the anterior limb, genu and posterior limb with the M3 projection located anteriorly, followed posteriorly by projections from M2, LPMCv, M4 and M1, respectively. Inferiorly, all pathways maintained this orientation but shifted posteriorly, with adjacent fiber bundles overlapping minimally. In the ccCP, M3 fibers were located medially and M1 fibers centromedially, with M2, LPMCv, and M4 pathways overlapping in between. Finally, at inferior ccCP levels, all pathways overlapped. Following CR and superior IC lesions, the dispersed pathway distribution may correlate with acute orofacial dysfunction with spared pathways contributing to orofacial motor recovery. In contrast, the gradually commixed nature of pathway representation inferiorly may enhance fiber vulnerability and correlate with severe, prolonged deficits following lower subcortical and midbrain injury. Additionally, in humans these findings may assist in interpreting orofacial movements evoked during deep brain stimulation, and neuroimaging tractography efforts to localize descending orofacial motor pathways.

Abstract
Objective: To assess the long-term effectiveness of the transvaginal high uterosacral ligament suspension (HUS) in women suffering from advanced pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Methods: A retrospective review of records identified 118 women who underwent transvaginal HUS with or without additional concomitant anterior and (or) posterior repairs from June 2003 to August 2009 in the First Affiliated Hospital, General Hospital of People's Liberation Army. Of 118 women, 104 women completed the follow-up during study period; these 104 women were analysed. Follow-up visits were performed 2, 6 and 12 months after surgery and then annually. Anatomic results of POP was established by pelvic examination using pelvic organ prolapse quantitation system (POP-Q) staging. Funtional results were obtained by patient global impression of improvement (PGI-I), pelvic floor distress inventory-short form 20 (PFDI-20) and pelvic floor impact questionnaire short form (PFIQ-7). Surgical success required the fulfillment of all 3 criteria: (1) prolapse leading edge of 0 cm or less and apex of 1/2 total vaginal length or less; (2) the absence of pelvic organ prolapse symptoms as reported on the PFDI-20 question No. 3 ( "Do you usually have a bulge or something falling out that you can see or feel in your vaginal area?" ); and (3) no prolapse reoperations or pessary use during the study period. Results: The mean follow-up time was (9.1±1.5) years. The overall surgery success rate was 91.3% (95/104) according to above all 3 criteria. Prolapse recurrence rates were isolated anterior 6.7% (7/104), isolated apical 0, isolated posterior 2.9% (3/104) and multiple compartments 1.0% (1/104). Five women (4.8%, 5/104) developed bothersome vaginal bulge symptoms. None of recurrent women underwent retreatment, including either surgery or use of a pessary at last follow-up. The subjective satisfaction rate was 90.4% (94/104). PFDI-20 and PFIQ-7 scores showed a statistically significant improvement from preoperative 72 and 65 points to postoperative 17 and 9 points respectively (all P<0.01). There was a 2.9% (3/104) rate of intraoperative ureteral kinking and 3.8% (4/104) rate of postoperative morbidity. Conclusions: The transvaginal HUS for vault prolapse offers good long-term anatomical results with excellent vault suspension. With additional concomitant anterior and (or) posterior repairs, it will be a reconstructive surgery for the majority of advanced POP. It is minimal traumatic and appropriate for different type of POP, especially for the eldly patients. It is worthy of being popularized for clinical application.

Abstract
The injury and repair of retinal neurons is a common scientific problem in the occurrence, development and prognosis of neuronal visual impairment. Transplant of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) differentiated from stem cells opens a new avenue for treatment of glaucoma and optic neuronal degenerative diseases. For the goal to explore the optimal method for RGCs replacement, this review summarizes the current information regarding the classification and application of stem cells, the growth characteristics of RGCs and the precise methods to induce RGCs, and discusses some important issues that need resolving and are related to RGCs transplantation. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Tacrolimus is an immunosuppressive medication for organ transplantation. FOXP3(+) T regulatory cells (Tregs) play roles in suppression of rejection and induction of graft tolerance. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between the polymorphism of FOXP3 and the blood level of tacrolimus in renal transplant recipients. METHODS This retrospective study included 100 renal transplant recipients receiving tacrolimus treatment and 100 healthy control subjects. Genotyping for FOXP3 rs3761547 AA, AG, GG, rs3761548 AA, AC, CC and rs223236 AA, AG, GG was performed. Concentrations of tacrolimus, creatinine, and urea nitrogen levels in blood were measured. RESULTS Frequencies of genotypes of FOXP3 rs3761548 AA, AC, and CC, rs3761547 AA, AG, GG and rs 223236 AA, AG, GG in renal transplant recipients were similar to those in normal people. The blood level of tacrolimus in recipients with rs3761548 CC was significantly higher than that in recipients with rs3761548 AA and AC (P < .001). No difference in the blood level of tacrolimus was found in recipients with different genotypes of rs3761547 and rs223236. Compared to rs3761548 AA and AC groups, there was no difference of Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) glomerular filtration rate and the level of blood urea nitrogen before transplantation; however, these 2 parameters were significantly improved after transplantation in the rs3761548 CC group. The level of tacrolimus was correlated positively with MDRD glomerular filtration rate and negatively with the blood urea nitrogen level in recipients with rs3761548 CC genotype after transplantation. CONCLUSIONS Our study identified a new relationship between FOXP3 rs3761548 and the blood level of tacrolimus. These results suggest that the polymorphism of FOXP3 may affect tacrolimus pharmacokinetics.

Abstract
Excitons are the most prominent optical excitations and controlling their emission is an important step towards new optical devices. We have investigated the exciton emission from uncoated and gold/aluminum quinoline (Alq3) coated GaAs-AlGaAs-GaAs core-shell nanowires (NWs) using temperature-, intensity- and polarization dependent photoluminescence (PL). Plasmonic GaAs-AlGaAs-GaAs NWs with a ∼10 nm thick Au coating but without an Alq3 spacer layer reveal a significant reduction of the PL intensity of the exciton emission compared with the uncoated NW sample. Plasmonic NW samples with the same nominal Au coverage and an additional Alq3 interlayer of 3 or 6 nm thickness show a clearly stronger PL intensity which increases with rising Alq3 spacer thickness. Time-resolved (TR) PL measurements reveal an increase of the exciton decay rate by a factor of up to two with decreasing Alq3 spacer thickness suggesting the presence of Förster energy transfer from NW excitons to plasmon oscillations in the gold film. The weak change of the decay time, however, indicates that Förster energy-transfer is only partially responsible for the PL quenching in the gold coated NWs. The main reason for the reduction of the PL emission is attributed to a gold induced band-bending in the GaAs NW core which causes exciton dissociation. With increasing Alq3 spacer thickness the band-bending decreases leading to a reduction of the exciton dissociation and PL quenching. Our interpretation is supported by electron energy loss spectroscopy measurements which show a signal reduction and blue shift of defect (possibly EL2) transitions when gold particles are deposited on NWs compared with bare or Alq3 coated NWs.

Abstract
Many studies have evaluated the relationships between alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels and the prognosis for osteosarcoma. However, a consensus has yet to be reached. We completed a meta-analysis to assess the significance of ALP and prognosis for osteosarcoma. We retrieved eligible documents from the PubMed and Embase databases and extracted related data from those documents. The overall survival (OS), hazard ratio (HR) and event-free survival (EFS) HR were obtained after combination to evaluate the impacts of ALP levels on prognosis for osteosarcoma. After screening, a total of 12 documents published between 1999 and 2013 were included. The ALP levels on OS were evaluated in nine documents. The pooled HRs was 1.78 (95% CI: 1.52-2.07, p < .05). The ALP levels on EFS were determined in eight documents. The pooled HRs was 1.58 (95% CI: 1.37-1.82, p < .05). Begg's test (OS, p > .754; EFS, p > .386) and Egger's test (OS, p > .649; EFS, p > .274) showed that there was no significant publication bias during analytic process. In summary, our meta-analysis shows that a higher level of ALP can decrease the OS and EFS in patients with osteosarcoma and ALP is an important biological indicator for patients with osteosarcoma.

Abstract
Schistosomiasis caused by Schistosoma japonicum is a severe parasitic disease in The People's Republic of China and imposed considerable burden on human and domestic animal health and socioeconomic development. The significant achievement in schistosomiasis control has been made in last 60years. Oncomelania hupensis as the only intermediate host of S. japonicum plays a key role in disease transmission. The habitat complexity of the snails challenges to effective control. In this review we share the experiences in control and research of O. hupensis.

Abstract
We aimed to give a systematic hypothesis on the functions of exercise on circulating monocytes by identifying a discrete set of genes in circulating monocytes that were altered by exercise. The microarray expression profile of GSE51835 was downloaded from gene expression omnibus (GEO) database for the identification of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) using limma and affy packages in R language. Gene Ontology (GO) terms and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis were performed for DEGs, followed by the construction of co-expression network and protein-protein interaction (PPI) network. The top 10 nodes in PPI network were screened, and subnetwork was constructed for the key genes identification. Totally, 35 DEGs, including 2 upregulated genes and 33 downregulated genes, were identified. The enriched GO terms were mainly linked to immune response and defence response, and the enriched KEGG pathways were mainly associated with natural killer cell-mediated cytotoxicity and graft-versus-host disease. Dual-specificity phosphatase 2 (DUSP2) was identified as a key node in the co-expression network. In the PPI network, CD247 module (CD247), chemokine (C-X-C motif) receptor 4 (CXCR4), granzyme B (GZMB) and perforin 1 (PRF1) were identified as key nodes. An important interaction, GZMB/PRF1, was detected. Five key genes, including DUSP2, CD247, CXCR4, GZMB and PRF1, and an interaction of GZMB/PRF1, were significant factors in the immune processes of circulating monocytes, which might be regulated by brief exercises, leading to the enhancement of immune function.

Abstract
The cytoarchitecture and cortical connections of the ventral motor region are investigated using Nissl, and NeuN staining methods and the fluorescent retrograde tract tracing technique in the rhesus monkey. On the basis of gradual laminar differentiation, it is shown that the ventral motor region stems from the ventral proisocortical area (anterior insula and dorsal Sylvian opercular region). The cytoarchitecture of the ventral motor region is shown to progress in three lines, as we have recently shown for the dorsal motor region. Namely, root (anterior insular and dorsal Sylvian opercular area ProM), belt (ventral premotor cortex) and core (precentral motor cortex) lines. This stepwise architectonic organization is supported by the overall patterns of corticocortical connections. Areas in each line are sequentially interconnected (intralineal connections) and all lines are interconnected (interlinear connections). Moreover, root areas, as well as some of the belt areas of the ventral and dorsal trend are interconnected. The ventral motor region is also connected with the ventral somatosensory areas in a topographic manner. The root and belt areas of ventral motor region are connected with paralimbic, multimodal and prefrontal (outer belt) areas. In contrast, the core area has a comparatively more restricted pattern of corticocortical connections. This architectonic and connectional organization is consistent in part, with the functional organization of the ventral motor region as reported in behavioral and neuroimaging studies which include the mediation of facial expression and emotion, communication, phonic articulation, and language in human.
