Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by insulin resistance, with high morbidity and mortality worldwide. Due to the tightly intertwined connection between the insulin resistance pathway and the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, regulating the PI3K/AKT pathway and its associated targets is essential for hypoglycemia and the prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In recent years, metabolites isolated from traditional Chinese medicine has received more attention and acceptance for its superior bioactivity, high safety, and fewer side effects. Meanwhile, numerous in vivo and in vitro studies have revealed that the metabolites present in traditional Chinese medicine possess better bioactivities in regulating the balance of glucose metabolism, ameliorating insulin resistance, and preventing type 2 diabetes mellitus via the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. In this article, we reviewed the literature related to the metabolites of traditional Chinese medicine improving IR and possessing therapeutic potential for type 2 diabetes mellitus by targeting the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, focusing on the hypoglycemic mechanism of the metabolites of traditional Chinese medicine in type 2 diabetes mellitus and elaborating on the significant role of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway in type 2 diabetes mellitus. In order to provide reference for clinical prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine decoction as an adjunctive treatment for diabetic nephropathy in systematic evaluations. Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang databases, covering the period from January 2013 to July 2023. The search was restricted to randomized controlled trials (RCTs) conducted within the past decade that investigated the use of TCM decoction as an adjunctive treatment for diabetic nephropathy. The control group received western medicine treatment, while the intervention group received TCM decoction in addition to the conventional treatment. Endnote and Excel were employed for literature management and data organization, and Revman 5.3 and Stata 16 software were used for the analyses. Results: 66 RCTs involving 6,951 participants were included in this study. The clinical efficacy of TCM decoction as an adjunctive treatment for diabetic nephropathy was found to be significantly higher than that of the control group (OR = 3.12, 95% CI [2.70, 3.60], I2 = 0%, p < 0.00001). The incidence of adverse events did not differ significantly between the intervention group and the control group (OR = 0.94, 95% CI [0.60, 1.48], I2 = 0%, p = 0.94). According to the secondary outcomes of renal function and blood glucose indicators, the intervention group showed better therapeutic efficacy compared to the control group. The most frequently used TCM categories were tonifying medicine, blood-activating medicine, astringent medicine, diuretic medicine, heat-clearing medicine, and laxative medicine. Among them, the top five frequently used Chinese medicine were Astragalus mongholicus Bunge [Fabaceae; Astragali mongholici radix](58 times), Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge [Lamiaceae; Radix et rhizoma salviae miltiorrhizae] (42 times), Dioscorea oppositifolia L. Abstract
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a significant global health burden, with high morbidity and mortality rates. It is often diagnosed at middle to advanced stage, affecting approximately 35% of patients at the time of diagnosis. Currently, chemotherapy has been used to improve patient prognosis and increase overall survival. However, chemotherapy can also have cytotoxic effects and lead to adverse reactions, such as inhibiting bone marrow hematopoiesis, causing digestive dysfunction, hand-foot syndrome, and even life-threatening conditions. In response to these adverse effects, researchers have proposed using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as an option to treat cancer. TCM research focuses on prescriptions, herbs, and components, which form essential components of the current research in Chinese medicine. The study and implementation of TCM prescriptions and herbs demonstrate its distinctive holistic approach to therapy, characterized by applying multi-component and multi-target treatment. TMC components have advantages in developing new drugs as they consist of single ingredients, require smaller medication dosages, have a precise measure of pharmacodynamic effects, and have a clear mechanism of action compared to TCM prescriptions and herbs. However, further research is still needed to determine whether TMC components can fully substitute the therapeutic efficacy of TCM prescriptions. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the research advancements made in TCM prescriptions, herbs, and components. The findings of this study can serve as a theoretical basis for researchers who are interested in exploring the potential of TCM for the treatment of colorectal cancer.

Abstract
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a group of endogenous small non-coding RNAs in plants. They play critical functions in various biological processes during plant growth and development. Salvia miltiorrhiza is a well-known traditional Chinese medicinal plant with significant medicinal, economic, and academic values. In order to elucidate the role of miRNAs in S. miltiorrhiza, six small RNA libraries from mature roots, young roots, stems, mature leaves, young leaves and flowers of S. miltiorrhiza and one degradome library from mixed tissues were constructed. A total of 184 miRNA precursors, generating 137 known and 49 novel miRNAs, were genome-widely identified. The identified miRNAs were predicted to play diversified regulatory roles in plants through regulating 891 genes. qRT-PCR and 5' RLM-RACE assays validated the negative regulatory role of smi-miR159a in SmMYB62, SmMYB78, and SmMYB80. To elucidate the function of smi-miR159a in bioactive compound biosynthesis, smi-miR159a transgenic hairy roots were generated and analyzed. The results showed that overexpression of smi-miR159a caused a significant decrease in rosmarinic acid and salvianolic acid B contents. qRT-PCR analysis showed that the targets of smi-miR159a, including SmMYB62, SmMYB78, and SmMYB80, were significantly down-regulated, accompanied by the down-regulation of SmPAL1, SmC4H1, Sm4CL1, SmTAT1, SmTAT3, SmHPPR1, SmRAS, and SmCYP98A14 genes involved in phenolic acid biosynthesis. It suggests that smi-miR159a is a significant negative regulator of phenolic acid biosynthesis in S. miltiorrhiza.

Abstract
Breast cancer, the most prevalent malignant tumor among women globally, is significantly influenced by the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, which plays a crucial role in its initiation and progression. While conventional chemotherapy, the standard clinical treatment, suffers from significant drawbacks like severe side effects, high toxicity, and limited prognostic efficacy, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) provides a promising alternative. TCM employs a multi-targeted therapeutic approach, which results in fewer side effects and offers a high potential for effective treatment. This paper presents a detailed analysis of the therapeutic impacts of TCM on various subtypes of breast cancer, focusing on its interaction with the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Additionally, it explores the effectiveness of both monomeric and compound forms of TCM in the management of breast cancer. We also discuss the potential of establishing biomarkers for breast cancer treatment based on key proteins within the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Our aim is to offer new insights into the prevention and treatment of breast cancer and to contribute to the standardization of TCM.

Abstract
Objective We endeavor to develop a novel deep learning architecture tailored specifically for the analysis and classification of tongue features, including color, shape, and coating. Unlike conventional methods based on architectures like VGG or ResNet, our proposed method aims to address the challenges arising from their extensive size, thereby mitigating the overfitting problem. Through this research, we aim to contribute to the advancement of techniques in tongue feature recognition, ultimately leading to more precise diagnoses and better patient rehabilitation in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Methods In this study, we introduce TGANet (Tongue Feature Attention Network) to enhance model performance. TGANet utilizes the initial five convolutional blocks of pre-trained VGG16 as the backbone and integrates an attention mechanism into this backbone. The integration of the attention mechanism aims to mimic human cognitive attention, emphasizing model weights on pivotal regions of the image. During the learning process, the allocation of attention weights facilitates the interpretation of causal relationships in the model's decision-making. Results Experimental results demonstrate that TGANet outperforms baseline models, including VGG16, ResNet18, and TSC-WNet, in terms of accuracy, precision, F1 score, and AUC metrics. Additionally, TGANet provides a more intuitive and meaningful understanding of tongue feature classification models through the visualization of attention weights. Conclusion In conclusion, TGANet presents an effective approach to tongue feature classification, addressing challenges associated with model size and overfitting. By leveraging the attention mechanism and pre-trained VGG16 backbone, TGANet achieves superior performance metrics and enhances the interpretability of the model's decision-making process. The visualization of attention weights contributes to a more intuitive understanding of the classification process, making TGANet a promising tool in tongue diagnosis and rehabilitation.

Abstract
Background Definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) followed by maintenance therapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors offers the best chance of cure for patients with stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A significant challenge in this regimen is the occurrence of acute severe lymphopenia (ASL), which can compromise treatment efficacy. Currently, there are no effective strategies for preventing and treating ASL. Shenglin decoction (SLD), a traditional Chinese herbal medicine formulation, has demonstrated preliminary efficacy in mitigating ASL. However, robust evidence from clinical trials and a clear understanding of its mechanism of action are still needed. This study aims to comprehensively assess the efficacy, safety, and underlying mechanisms of SLD in the prevention of ASL. Methods This prospective, dual-center, open-label, randomized controlled trial will enroll 140 stage III NSCLC patients. Participants will be randomly allocated in a 1:1 ratio to a control group or an experimental group. Both groups will undergo definitive CCRT. Alongside the commencement of CCRT, the experimental group will receive an additional oral SLD intervention for a duration of three months. The primary outcome is the incidence rate of ASL, defined as the proportion of patients who experience at least one instance of a total lymphocyte count falling below 0.5 × 10^9 cells/L within 3 months of initiating CCRT treatment. Additionally, 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis of fecal samples to assess gut microbiota, as well as metabolomic analysis of fecal/blood samples, will be conducted to explore potential mechanisms. Discussion This study protocol aims to rigorously evaluate the efficacy and safety of SLD, as well as elucidate its mechanism of action in preventing ASL. Successful outcomes could establish SLD as an evidence-based intervention for ASL prevention in NSCLC patients undergoing CCRT. Abstract
Objective This study aimed to elucidate the therapeutic effects of Huaier granules on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) within the Milan criteria in patients who underwent microwave ablation (MWA). Materials and methods A total of 228 patients were included, with 97 in the Huaier group and 131 in the control group. We evaluated progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and extrahepatic metastasis survival (EMS) using Kaplan-Meier (KM) curves with a log-rank test. Propensity Score Matching (PSM) and Stabilized Inverse Probability of Treatment Weighting (IPTW) were performed to minimize selection and confounding biases. Results Following PSM, the 1-, 3-, and 5-year PFS rates in the Huaier and control groups were 83.5% vs 70.7%, 57.7% vs 42.6%, and 43.6% vs 31.9% (p = 0.030), respectively. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS rates were 98.9% vs 95.6%, 83.9% vs 72.3%, and 72.2% vs 53.7% (p = 0.023), respectively. The corresponding 1-, 3-, and 5-year EMS rates were 98.9% vs 93.4%, 91.7% vs 83.7%, and 91.7% vs 78.5% (p = 0.039), respectively. Stabilized IPTW analysis of KM curves yielded results similar to those of the PSM analysis. Additionally, administering Huaier granules for at least 6 months significantly improved PFS and OS. Conclusion Huaier granules can reduce the risk of recurrence and improve the OS of patients with HCC within the Milan criteria following MWA. Administering Huaier granules for over 6 months proved beneficial.

Abstract
Yams are the edible subterranean rhizomes, or tubers, of plants from the genus Dioscorea. There are approximately 600 species of yam plants in the world, with more than 90 of these growing in East Asia. One particular species, Dioscorea opposita Thunb., is highly praised as "the Chinese yam". This distinction arises from millennia of storied history, both as a nutritional food source and as a principal ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine. Among the many cultivars of Dioscorea opposita Thunb., Huai Shanyao has been widely regarded as the best. This review surveyed the historical background, physiochemical composition, applications as food and medicine, and research prospects for the Chinese yam. Modern science is finally beginning to confirm the remarkable health benefits of this yam plant, long-known to the Chinese people. Chinese yam promises anti-diabetic, anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-hypertensive, anti-cancer, and combination treatment applications, both as a functional food and as medicine.

Abstract
Recent research on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) saponin pharmacokinetics has revealed transformative breakthroughs and challenges. The multicomponent nature of TCM makes it difficult to select representative indicators for pharmacokinetic studies. The clinical application of saponins is limited by their low bioavailability and short half-life, resulting in fluctuating plasma concentrations. Future directions should focus on novel saponin compounds utilizing colon-specific delivery and osmotic pump systems to enhance oral bioavailability. Optimizing drug combinations, such as ginsenosides with aspirin, shows therapeutic potential. Rigorous clinical validation is essential for practical applications. This review emphasizes a transformative era in saponin research, highlighting the need for clinical validation. TCM saponin pharmacokinetics, guided by traditional principles, are in development, utilizing multidisciplinary approaches for a comprehensive understanding. This research provides a theoretical basis for new clinical drugs and supports rational clinical medication.

Abstract
Hypertrophic scars (HS) still remain an urgent challenge in the medical community. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has unique advantages in the treatment of HS. However, due to the natural barrier of the skin, it is difficult for the natural active components of TCM to more effectively penetrate the skin and exert therapeutic effects. Therefore, the development of an efficient drug delivery system to facilitate enhanced transdermal absorption of TCM becomes imperative for its clinical application. In this study, we designed a compound Salvia miltiorrhiza-Blumea balsamifera nanoemulsion gel (CSB-NEG) and investigated its therapeutic effects on rabbit HS models. The prescription of CSB-NEG was optimized by single-factor, pseudoternary phase diagram, and central composite design experiments. The results showed that the average particle size and PDI of the optimized CSB-NE were 46.0 ± 0.2 nm and 0.222 ± 0.004, respectively, and the encapsulation efficiency of total phenolic acid was 93.37 ± 2.56%. CSB-NEG demonstrated excellent stability and skin permeation in vitro and displayed a significantly enhanced ability to inhibit scar formation compared to the CSB physical mixture in vivo. After 3 weeks of CSB-NEG treatment, the scar appeared to be flat, pink, and flexible. Furthermore, this treatment also resulted in a decrease in the levels of the collagen I/III ratio and TGF-β1 and Smad2 proteins while simultaneously promoting the growth and remodeling of microvessels. These findings suggest that CSB-NEG has the potential to effectively address the barrier properties of the skin and provide therapeutic benefits for HS, offering a new perspective for the prevention and treatment of HS.

Abstract
Background Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a severe heterogeneous cardiomyopathy characterized by cardiac enlargement and declining heart function, often leading to refractory heart failure and life-threatening outcomes, particularly prevalent in China. The challenge lies in the scarcity of targeted therapies with substantial efficacy for DCM. Additionally, traditional anti-heart failure drugs are constrained due to hypotension propensity or limited symptom improvement. Kuoxin Formula (KXF), internally endorsed at Longhua Hospital, demonstrates clear biological evidence for enhancing cardiac function and myocardial remodeling. Previous clinical studies suggest its potential to enhance patients' quality of life. This trial aims to further evaluate KXF's safety and efficacy in managing DCM-related heart failure. Methods This prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial aims to recruit 230 DCM patients from five centers. Participants will be randomly assigned to either KXF or placebo for 12 weeks, with careful monitoring of key indicators and adverse events. The primary outcome measures the proportion of patients with NT-proBNP reduction exceeding 30%. Secondary outcomes include New York Heart Association functional classification, Traditional Chinese Medicine syndrome scores, 6-minute walk test, Lee's heart failure score, and Minnesota Heart Failure Quality of Life Scale score. Ventricular remodeling will be assessed using cardiac ultrasound and ELISA. Safety metrics and adverse events will be meticulously recorded. Discussion This study will be the first multicentered research conducted in China that utilizes a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled design to investigate the use of TCM in the treatment of DCM. It seeks to develop new theoretical frameworks and provide solid clinical data to support the integration of TCM and modern medicine in treating heart failure in DCM patients. Abstract
Background Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a common, preventable, and treatable disease. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has shown promising potential in COPD treatment. and we conducted a multi-center RCT to evaluate the effectiveness of TCM-based therapy in stable COPD patients. Methods In this multicenter, double-blind RCT, a total of 200 patients were supposed to be assigned to either trial or control group randomly. Both groups received Tiotropium (18 μg) from month 0 to month 12. Trial group received additional TCM granules, while control group received a placebo from month 0 to month 6. Symptom assessment, total effective rate, lung function measurements, hospitalization rates, and quality of life were evaluated at month 0, month 6, and month 12. Adverse events were assessed at month 12. Results Of the initial 105 patients (aged 40-80) who completed the study, 51 were in trial group and 54 were in control group. At month 6, significant differences were observed between two groups in total effective rate (p = 0.020), sputum score (p = 0.047), changes in FVC% (p = 0.047) and FEV1 (p = 0.046). At month 12, significant differences were observed in sputum score (p = 0.020), FVC (p = 0.042), and change in FEV1 (p = 0.013). Compared to baseline, they both demonstrated improvements in symptoms, acute exacerbation, lung function, quality of life, and exercise tolerance. Conclusion TCM treatment effectively improved total effective rate, sputum symptom, FVC%, FEV1, and exhibited prolonged efficacy in improving sputum symptoms and FEV1 in stable COPD patients.Clinical trial registration:https://www.chictr.org.cn/showproj.html?proj=6029 identifier ChiCTR-TRC-13003531.

Abstract
Purpose Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapies, especially acupuncture, have received increasing attention in the field of pain management. This meta-analysis evaluated the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of myofascial pain syndrome. Methods A comprehensive search was conducted across a number of databases, including PubMed, Cochrane Library, WOS, CNKI, WANFANG, Sinomed, and VIP. Furthermore, articles of studies published from the inception of these databases until November 22, 2023, were examined. This systematic review and meta-analysis encompassed all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on acupuncture for myofascial pain syndromes, without language or date restrictions. Based on the mean difference (MD) of symptom change, we critically assessed the outcomes reported in these trials. The quality of evidence was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. The study is registered with PROSPERO under registration number CRD42023484933. Results Our analysis included 10 RCTs in which 852 patients were divided into two groups: an acupuncture group (427) and a control group (425). The results of the study showed that acupuncture was significantly more effective than the control group in treating myofascial pain syndromes, which was reflected in a greater decrease in VAS scores (MD = -1.29, 95% [-1.65, -0.94], p < 0.00001). In addition, the improvement in PRI and PPI was more pronounced in the acupuncture group (PRI: MD = -2.04, 95% [-3.76, -0.32], p = 0.02) (PPI: MD = -1.03, 95% [-1.26, -0.79], p < 0.00001) compared to the control group. These results suggest that acupuncture is effective in reducing myofascial pain. It is necessary to further study the optimal acupoints and treatment time to achieve the best therapeutic effect. Abstract
Background and aims Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the major cause of lower respiratory tract infections in children and the elderly, often progressing to pneumonia and severe sequelae. However, there are currently no feasible and cost-effective interventions with proven efficacy for children, making medications with anti-RSV activity urgently needed. Traditional Chinese medicine has shown promising therapeutic efficacy in alleviating viral infection symptoms. Therefore, we aimed to develop effective strategies for RSV treatment based on traditional Chinese medicine. Methods and results The infection status was assessed in BALB/c mice with or without Xuanfei Formula (XFF) treatment over a one-week period using H&E staining, cytokine assays and RSV titer testing after RSV challenge. Remarkably, on the first day of XFF intervention, both the pro-inflammation cytokine levels in the serum and RSV-N gene copies in the lung of mice were plummeted, compared to the RSV-infected group. This implied that XFF might possess the immune-independent anti-RSV capability. To elucidate the underlying mechanism, we employed transcriptome analysis followed by k-means analysis. The reversal effects of XFF against RSV primarily focused on the processes of innate and adaptive immunity. Additionally, we found that XFF administration corrected the disordered fatty acid and cholesterol metabolism processes during RSV infection. Lipidomics profiling indicated consistent cholesterol abundance with transcriptional changes but not fatty acids. Cholesterol synthesis-related genes mRNA levels and cholesterol synthesis intermediates detection supported XFF's repression upon cholesterol biosynthesis. Aberrantly increased cholesterol production has been reported as necessary for RSV infection. To mimic that, we observed lovastatin treatment inhibited RSV replication and pro-inflammation cytokine expression in vitro. Transcription factor prediction of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) involved in cholesterol synthesis implicated SREBP2. Through network pharmacology, stigmasterol and β-sitosterol were identified as the effective active ingredients within the XFF, with the help of further molecular docking and mass spectrum detection. In vitro experiments demonstrated β-sitosterol and stigmasterol reinforced the bonding between SREBP cleavage-activation protein (SCAP) and insulin-induced gene proteins (INSIGs) to inhibit SREBP2 cleavage maturation and consequent RSV infection. Conclusion Xuanfei Formula (XFF) exhibits excellent anti-RSV efficacy by inhibiting SREBP2-mediated cholesterol synthesis to reduce RSV replication and ameliorate inflammation in the lung of infected mice.

Abstract
Valeriana jatamansi Jones (VJJ), renowned for its extensive history in traditional Chinese medicine and ethnomedicine within China, is prevalently utilized to alleviate ailments such as epigastric distension and pain, gastrointestinal disturbances including food accumulation, diarrhea, and dysentery, as well as insomnia and other diseases. Moreover, the Iridoid-rich fraction derived from Valeriana jatamansi Jones (IRFV) has demonstrated efficacy in facilitating the recuperation of motor functions after spinal cord injury (SCI). This study is aimed to investigate the therapeutic effect of IRFV on SCI and its underlying mechanism. Initially, a rat model of SCI was developed to assess the impact of IRFV on axonal regeneration. Subsequently, employing the PC12 cell model of oxidative damage, the role and mechanism of IRFV in enhancing axonal regeneration were explored using the phosphoinositide-3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) signaling pathway inhibitor LY294002. Ultimately, the same inhibitor was administered to SCI rats to confirm the molecular mechanism through which IRFV promotes axonal regeneration by activating the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. The results showed that IRFV significantly enhanced motor function recovery, reduced pathological injury, and facilitated axonal regeneration in SCI rats. In vitro experiments revealed that IRFV improved PC12 cell viability, augmented axonal regeneration, and activated the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Notably, the inhibition of this pathway negated the therapeutic benefits of IRFV in SCI rats. In conclusion, IRFV promote promotes axonal regeneration and recovery of motor function after SCI through activation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.

Abstract
Aging and aging-related diseases present a global public health problem. Therefore, the development of efficient anti-aging drugs has become an important area of research. Traditional Chinese medicine is an important complementary and alternative branch of aging-related diseases therapy. Recently, a growing number of studies have revealed that traditional Chinese medicine has a certain delaying effect on the progression of aging and aging-related diseases. Here, we review the progress in research into using traditional Chinese medicine for aging and aging-related diseases (including neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer). Furthermore, we summarize the potential mechanisms of action of traditional Chinese medicine and provide references for further studies on aging and aging-related diseases.

Abstract
Mineral crude drug has revolutionized the treatment landscape in precision oncology niche that leads to the improvement in therapeutic efficiency on various tumor subtypes. Mangxiao (MX), a mineral crude drug in traditional Chinese medicine, has been used for treating gastrointestinal diseases for thousands of years. However, the action mechanisms are still ambiguous. Here, we attempt to explore inhibitory roles and associated pharmacological mechanisms of MX upon colorectal cancer (CRC) in APCMin/+ male mice by integrating metabolomics, 16S rDNA sequencing analyses, and metagenomic-based microbiota analysis. We found that MX can significantly inhibit the occurrence of CRC through the regulation of the dysregulated gut microbe metabolism. Furthermore, the correlation analysis of metabolomes and 16S rDNA revealed that MX could restore the disorders of gut microbes by specifically enriching the abundance of Lactobacilli to improve bile acid metabolism, which further activated the farnesoid X receptor (FXR) in CRC mice, then the improvement of gut dysbiosis could inhibit the development of CRC. Collectively, our effort confirmed MX has the capacity to intervene the development of CRC and further discovered that it targets Lactobacillus-bile acid-intestinal FXR axis, which can be regarded as a candidate medicine for future drug discovery and development against CRC.

Abstract
Traditional treatments of cancer have faced various challenges, including toxicity, medication resistance, and financial burdens. On the other hand, bioactive phytochemicals employed in complementary alternative medicine have recently gained interest due to their ability to control a wide range of molecular pathways while being less harmful. As a result, we used a network pharmacology approach to study the possible regulatory mechanisms of active constituents of Cordia myxa for the treatment of liver cancer (LC). Active constituents were retrieved from the IMPPAT database and the literature review, and their targets were retrieved from the STITCH and Swiss Target Prediction databases. LC-related targets were retrieved from expression datasets (GSE39791, GSE76427, GSE22058, GSE87630, and GSE112790) through gene expression omnibus (GEO). The DAVID Gene Ontology (GO) database was used to annotate target proteins, while the Kyoto Encyclopedia and Genome Database (KEGG) was used to analyze signaling pathway enrichment. STRING and Cytoscape were used to create protein-protein interaction networks (PPI), while the degree scoring algorithm of CytoHubba was used to identify hub genes. The GEPIA2 server was used for survival analysis, and PyRx was used for molecular docking analysis. Survival and network analysis revealed that five genes named heat shot protein 90 AA1 (HSP90AA1), estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1), cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4), cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1), and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP9) are linked with the survival of LC patients. Finally, we conclude that four extremely active ingredients, namely cosmosiin, rosmarinic acid, quercetin, and rubinin influence the expression of HSP90AA1, which may serve as a potential therapeutic target for LC. These results were further validated by molecular dynamics simulation analysis, which predicted the complexes with highly stable dynamics. The residues of the targeted protein showed a highly stable nature except for the N-terminal domain without affecting the drug binding. An integrated network pharmacology and docking study demonstrated that C. myxa had a promising preventative effect on LC by working on cancer-related signaling pathways.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of literature on the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to explore its research status, hotspots, and development trends, providing ideas and references for further research. METHOD We screened literature for treating IBD with TCM from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC), and used the VOSviewer software (1.6.18) to discover cooperation among countries, institutions, authors, and information on journals, keywords, etc. We use the CiteSpace software (6.2.R2) to analyze co-citation and burst discovery of references. RESULTS In all, 440 relevant literature papers were searched and screened from the WOSCC database. The results showed that the number of publications concerning treating IBD with TCM has shown a significant growth in the past decade. China is far ahead in terms of article output, occupying a dominant position. The institution with the most published articles is Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The authors who have published most of the articles are Dai Yancheng, Shi Rui, and Zhou Lian. The Journal of Ethnopharmacology published maximum articles in this field, while Gastroenterology was the most cited journal. Ungaro et al.'s article entitled "Ulcerative colitis" (https://doi.org/10.1016/S0140-6736(16)32126-2), published in The Lancet in 2017 was the most cited study. The high-frequency keywords mainly include ulcerative colitis, inflammation, NF-κB, expression, traditional Chinese medicine, gut microbiota, activation, mice, cells, etc. CONCLUSIONS The research heat for treating IBD with TCM has risen over the past decade, with studies focusing on three main aspects: clinical studies of TCM, basic pharmacology, and animal experimental research. The research hotspot shifted from pathogenesis, clinical study of TCM, basic pharmacology, and complementary therapies to the study of network pharmacology and the mechanism of action of TCM related to gut microbiota. Network pharmacology and gut microbiota are at the frontiers of research and turning to be the future research trends to provide new insights and ideas for further research for treating IBD with TCM.

Abstract
Based on the R language data mining technology, the medication rules of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) in the treatment of H-type hypertension were discussed, and the basis and new ideas for the treatment of H-type hypertension with TCM were provided. CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and SinoMed were searched to collect clinical studies on the treatment of H-type hypertension with TCM. The data were screened, and Excel was used to build a database. Rstudio was used to carry out drug efficacy classification, four Qi and five flavors, meridian homing, frequency of use, correlation, association rules, and clustering analyses of drugs and explore the medication rules of TCM. 191 TCM prescriptions were obtained, and the main syndromes were phlegm-dampness accumulation syndrome, phlegm and blood stasis syndrome, and Yin deficiency and Yang hyperactivity syndrome. A total of 169 kinds of TCM were used, and the frequency was 1 875 times. Among them, the drugs whose single use frequency was more than 20 times were high-frequency medicines, 26 kinds in total. They were Gestrodiae Rhizoma, Poria, Pinelliae Rhizoma, Achyranthis Bidenthis Radix, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, etc. The efficacy of high-frequency medicines was mainly classified as tonic medicines, blood-activating and stasis-removing medicines, liver-relieving wind medicines, and damp-clearing medicines. The four Qi of the drug were mainly warm and flat, and the five flavors were mainly sweet and bitter. The liver meridian and spleen meridian were the main meridians. The association rule analysis obtained a total of 14 groups of commonly used drug combinations, and the correlation analysis obtained 20 drug combinations with a high correlation coefficient. A total of six drug combinations were obtained by cluster analysis. Eight groups of drug pairs were obtained by association rule analysis on H-type hypertension with phlegm-dampness accumulation syndrome. Seven drug combinations with high correlation coefficients were obtained by correlation analysis, and three drug prescriptions were obtained by cluster analysis. The pathological factors of H-type hypertension are mainly phlegm, stasis, and deficiency. The disease site is in the liver, involving the spleen, lungs, and other viscera. The commonly used drugs are Gestrodiae Rhizoma, Poria, Pinelliae Rhizoma, Achyranthis Bidenthis Radix, etc. Banxia Baizhu Tianma Decoction, Tianma Gouteng Decoction, and Buyang Huanwu Decoction are commonly used prescriptions. The medication rules shown in this study can provide certain ideas for the clinical treatment of H-type hypertension with TCM.

Abstract
Root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) are plant-parasitic nematodes that cause serious damage worldwide. There are many species of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) plants, but only a few have been reported to be infected by Meloidogyne species. From 2020 to 2022, a survey was conducted in the Qinling mountain area, which is the main production region of TCM plants in China. Obvious galling symptoms were observed on the root systems of 15 species of TCM plants. Females were collected from diverse diseased TCM plants and subsequently identified at morphological and molecular levels. Among the 20 diseased root samples collected, Meloidogyne hapla populations were identified in 12 samples (60%), and M. incognita populations were identified in eight samples (40%). Among the 15 species of diseased TCM plants, eight species, namely, Scutellaria baicalensis, Leonurus japonicus, Dioscorea zingiberensis, Cornus officinalis, Viola philippica, Achyranthes bidentata, Senecio scandens, and Plantago depressa, were reported to be infected by Meloidogyne species for the first time. The host status of five species of TCM plants for two M. hapla isolates and one M. incognita isolate from TCM plants in this study was then evaluated. Differences in TCM plants' response to nematode infection were apparent when susceptibility was evaluated by the egg counts per gram of fresh root and the reproduction factor of the nematodes. Among the five species of TCM plants tested, Salvia miltiorrhiza and Gynostemma pentaphyllum were the most susceptible, while S. baicalensis and V. philippica were not considered suitable hosts for M. hapla or M. incognita.

Abstract
The significant number of individuals impacted by the pandemic makes prolonged symptoms after COVID-19 a matter of considerable concern. These are numerous and affect multiple organ systems. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), prolonged gastrointestinal issues are a crucial part of post-COVID-19 syndrome. The resulting disruption of homeostasis underscores the need for a therapeutic approach based on compounds that can simultaneously affect more than one target/node. The present review aimed to check for nutraceuticals possessing multiple molecular mechanisms helpful in relieving Long COVID-19-specific gastrointestinal symptoms. Specific plants used in Keywords Chinese Medicine (TCM) expected to be included in the WHO Global Medical Compendium were selected based on the following criteria: (1) they are widely used in the Western world as natural remedies and complementary medicine adjuvants; (2) their import and trade are regulated by specific laws that ensure quality and safety (3) have the potential to be beneficial in alleviating intestinal issues associated with Long COVID-19. Searches were performed in PubMed, Elsevier, Google Scholar, Scopus, Science Direct, and ResearchGate up to 2023. Cinnamomum cassia, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Magnolia officinalis, Poria cocos, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Scutellaria baicalensis, and Zingiber officinalis were identified as the most promising for their potential impact on inflammation and oxidative stress. Based on the molecular mechanisms of the phytocomplexes and isolated compounds of the considered plants, their clinical use may lead to benefits in gastrointestinal diseases associated with Long COVID-19, thanks to a multiorgan and multitarget approach.

Abstract
Chronic atrophic gastritis (AG) is initiated mainly by Helicobacter pylori infection, which may progress to stomach cancer following the Correa's cascade. The current treatment regimen is H. pylori eradication, yet evidence is lacking that this treatment is effective on later stages of AG especially gastric gland atrophy. Here, using AG mouse model, patient samples, gastric organoids, and lineage tracing, this study unraveled gastric stem cell (GSC) defect as a crucial pathogenic factor in AG in mouse and human. Moreover, a natural peptide is isolated from a traditional Chinese medicine that activated GSCs to regenerate gastric epithelia in experimental AG models and revitalized the atrophic gastric organoids derived from patients. It is further shown that the peptide exerts its functions by stabilizing the EGF-EGFR complex and specifically activating the downstream ERK and Stat1 signaling. Overall, these findings advance the understanding of AG pathogenesis and open a new avenue for AG treatment.

Abstract
Nontraumatic avascular necrosis of the femoral head(NANFH) is a common and refractory femoral head disease that causes bone death due to interruption of blood supply. Early clinical symptoms are atypical, such as hip pain and limited joint function. In the late stage, severe pain, shortening of the affected limb, claudication, and other serious symptoms are common, which se-riously affects the quality of life of patients. Therefore, it is of great significance to actively improve the clinical symptoms of NANFH to enhance the quality of life of patients. The pathogenesis of NANFH is complex, such as traumatic vascular circulatory disorders, the use of hormones or other drugs, alcoholism, and diabetes mellitus. These factors directly or indirectly lead to femoral head vascular damage, thrombosis, and coagulation system disorders, which reduce the blood supply to the acetabulum and femoral head, thus causing ischaemic death of the femoral head or even femoral head collapse. NANFH is mainly categorized as "bone impotence" and "bone paralysis" in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM). The treatment of NANFH with TCM has the characteristics and advantages of a long history, stable and reliable therapeutic effect, fewer adverse reactions, good patient tolerance, and high acceptance. Previous studies have shown that the promotion of angiogenesis is a key initiative in the prevention and treatment of NANFH, and TCM can promote fe-moral head angiogenesis by interfering with the expression of angiogenesis-related factors, which in turn can help to restore the blood supply of the femoral head and thus improve clinical symptoms of NANFH and prevent and treat NANFH. This article described the roles of blood supply interruption and angiogenesis in NANFH and the accumulated knowledge and experience of TCM in NANFH and summarized the role of angiogenesis-related factors in NANFH and the research progress on TCM intervention, so as to provide an idea for the subsequent research and a new basis for the clinical application of TCM in the treatment of NANFH.
