Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE On DWI and DSC-PWI, hemangioblastomas and brain metastases may exhibit different signal intensities depending on their cellularity and angiogenesis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether a hemangioblastoma can be differentiated from a single brain metastasis with DWI and DSC-PWI. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed DWI, DSC-PWI, and conventional MR imaging of 21 patients with hemangioblastomas and 30 patients with a single brain metastasis. Variables of minimum ADC and relative ADC were acquired by DWI and the parameter of relative maximum CBV, by DSC-PWI. Minimum ADC, relative ADC, and relative maximum CBV values were compared between hemangioblastomas and brain metastases by using the nonparametric Mann-Whitney test. The sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, accuracy, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve were determined. RESULTS Both the minimum ADC values and relative ADC ratios were significantly higher in hemangioblastomas compared with brain metastases (P < .001 for both minimum ADC values and relative ADC ratios). The same was true for the relative maximum CBV ratio (P < .002). The threshold value of ≥6.59 for relative maximum CBV provided sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of 95.24%, 53.33%, and 70.59%, respectively, for differentiating hemangioblastomas from brain metastases. Compared with relative maximum CBV, relative ADC had high sensitivity (95.24%), specificity (96.67%), and accuracy (96.08%) using the threshold value of ≥1.54. The optimal threshold value for minimum ADC was ≥1.1 × 10-3 mm2/s. CONCLUSIONS DWI and DSC-PWI are helpful in the characterization and differentiation of hemangioblastomas from brain metastases. DWI appears to be the most efficient MR imaging technique for providing a distinct differentiation of the 2 tumor types.

Abstract
This Letter reports a measurement of the flux and energy spectrum of electron antineutrinos from six 2.9 GWth nuclear reactors with six detectors deployed in two near (effective baselines 512 and 561 m) and one far (1579 m) underground experimental halls in the Daya Bay experiment. Using 217 days of data, 296 721 and 41 589 inverse β decay (IBD) candidates were detected in the near and far halls, respectively. The measured IBD yield is (1.55±0.04) ×10(-18) cm(2) GW(-1) day(-1) or (5.92±0.14) ×10(-43) cm(2) fission(-1). This flux measurement is consistent with previous short-baseline reactor antineutrino experiments and is 0.946±0.022 (0.991±0.023) relative to the flux predicted with the Huber-Mueller (ILL-Vogel) fissile antineutrino model. The measured IBD positron energy spectrum deviates from both spectral predictions by more than 2σ over the full energy range with a local significance of up to ∼4σ between 4-6 MeV. A reactor antineutrino spectrum of IBD reactions is extracted from the measured positron energy spectrum for model-independent predictions.

Abstract
We demonstrate plasmon-assisted energy transfer between fluorophores located at distances up to 7 μm on the top of a thin silver film. Thanks to the strong confinement and large propagation length of surface plasmon polaritons, the range of the energy transfer is almost 2 orders of magnitude larger than the values reported in the literature so far. The parameters driving the energy transfer range are thoroughly characterized and are in very good agreement with theoretically expected values.

Abstract
We conducted a meta-analysis of eligible studies to estimate the association between gastric cancer risk and rs2275913G>A IL-17A and rs763780T>C IL-17F polymorphisms. We searched the relevant studies in both Chinese and English through PubMed, the Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and EMBASE up to January 1, 2014, including 3939 cases and 5407 controls. Seven eligible case-control studies were selected, including seven studies on rs2275913G>A IL-17A and four studies on rs763780T>C IL-17F. The rs2275913 AG [odds ratio (OR) = 1.50, 95% confidence interval (95%CI) = 1.04-2.15] and GG (OR = 1.40, 95%CI = 1.00-1.96) genotypes were significantly associated with increased risk of gastric cancer compared with the AA genotype. The rs763780 TC (OR = 1.47, 95%CI = 1.32-1.64) and TT (OR = 1.49, 95%CI = 1.11-1.99) gen-otypes can influence gastric cancer risk. Subgroup analysis showed that rs2275913 GG (OR = 1.35, 95%CI = 1.05-1.73) and rs763780 TC (OR= 1.44, 95%CI = 1.20-1.75) genotypes were not significantly associated with increased risk of gastric cancer in Japanese populations. Our meta-analysis is the first to indicate that the rs2275913G>A and rs763780T>C polymor-phisms are risk factors for gastric cancer development.

Abstract
Nursing students in the present sample who have experienced childhood adversity have a certain level of post-traumatic growth. If introduced into nursing curricula, emotional intelligence interventions may increase emotional coping resources and enhance social skills for nurses, which may benefit their long-term occupational health. As researchers consider personal resilience a strategy for responding to workplace adversity in nurses, resilience building should be incorporated into nursing education. This is a preliminary study that may guide future investigations of the curvilinear relationship rather than linear relationship between post-traumatic growth and positive factors in the special sample of nursing students. Resilience, emotional intelligence and post-traumatic growth may benefit nursing students' careers and personal well-being in clinical work. Developing both their emotional intelligence and resilience may assist their individual post-traumatic growth and enhance their ability to cope with clinical stress. To investigate the relationships among post-traumatic growth, emotional intelligence and psychological resilience in vocational school nursing students who have experienced childhood adversities, a cross-sectional research design with anonymous questionnaires was conducted and self-report data were analysed. The Childhood Adversities Checklist (Chinese version), Posttraumatic Growth Inventory, Emotional Intelligence Scale and the 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale were used. Survey data were collected from 202 Chinese vocational school nursing students during 2011. Post-traumatic growth was associated with emotional intelligence and psychological resilience. Results indicated a curvilinear relationship between emotional intelligence and post-traumatic growth, and between psychological resilience and post-traumatic growth. Moderate-level emotional intelligence and psychological resilience were most associated with the greatest levels of growth. The results imply that moderate resilience and emotional intelligence can help nursing students cope with adversity in their future clinical work. This study first provided preliminary data suggesting the curvilinear relationship rather than linear relationship between post-traumatic growth and positive factors in the sample of nursing students.

Abstract
Cancer-associated fibroblasts have been shown to inhibit or stimulate tumor growth depending on stage, grade, and tumor type. It remains unclear, however, the effect of endometrial-cancer-associated fibroblasts on hormone-driven responses in endometrial cancer. In this study, we investigated the effect of normal and cancer-associated stromal cells from patients with and without endometrial cancer on endometrial tumor growth in response to estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4). Compared to benign endometrial stromal cells, the low-grade and high-grade cancer-associated stromal cells exhibited a blunted hormone response for proliferation as well as IGFBP1 secretion. Additional analysis of the influence of stromal cells on hormone-driven tumor growth was done by mixing stromal cells from benign, low-grade, or high-grade tumors, with Ishikawa cells for subcutaneous tumor formation. The presence of both benign and high-grade cancer-associated stromal cells increased estradiol-driven xenografted tumor growth compared to Ishikawa cells alone. Low-grade cancer-associated stromal cells did not significantly influence hormone-regulated tumor growth. Addition of P4 attenuated tumor growth in Ishikawa + benign or high-grade stromal cells, but not in Ishikawa cells alone or with low-grade stromal cells. Using an angiogenesis focused real-time array TGFA, TGFB2 and TGFBR1 and VEGFC were identified as potential candidates for hormone-influenced growth regulation of tumors in the presence of benign and high-grade stromal cells. In summary, endometrial-cancer-associated cells responded differently to in vitro hormone treatment compared to benign endometrial stromal cells. Additionally, presence of stromal cells differentially influenced hormone-driven xenograft growth in vivo depending on the disease status of the stromal cells.

Abstract
Outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza have caused considerable economic losses in the poultry industry and have also resulted in human deaths since 2004. Rapid subtyping of highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses(HPAIVs) in clinical specimens is a prerequisite of prompt control of disease and prevention of its spreading. In this study, we describe development of a DNA microarray-based detection and subtyping of HPAIVs in field samples. DNA copies of matrix (M) protein genes for the H5, H7, and H9 subtypes of hemagglutinin (HA) and the N1 and N2 subtypes of neuraminidase (NA) were prepared by RT-PCR and specific primers and then spotted onto aldehyde slides to form DNA microarrays. The HPAIV samples to be tested were subjected to total RNA isolation, RT-PCR with universal primers and Cy3 labeling, and the obtained double-stranded DNAs (targets) were finally hybridized with DNA microarrays (probes). A fluorescent spot on the microarray, detected by scanning indicated positive hybridization, i.e. the involved subtype. The assay was specific as various heterologous viruses or HPAIVs of other subtypes tested were negative. No cross-hybridization among different subtypes could be detected. The assay was more sensitive than RT-PCR and chicken embryo inoculation and could be also used for field samples. Summing up, the assay has proved useful for simultaneous detection and differentiation of main epidemic HPAIV subtypes.

Abstract
CONTEXT Nitromethane interferes with Jaffé measurements of creatinine, potentially mimicking acute kidney injury. OBJECTIVES We determined the proportional contribution of nitromethane in blood samples to creatinine measured by the Jaffé colorimetric and the point-of-care (POC) reactions and determined whether the difference can reliably estimate the concentration of nitromethane. Additionally, we determined whether the presence of nitromethane interferes with anion/osmolal gaps and ascertained the stability of nitromethane in serum after 7 days. METHODS Nitromethane was added to whole blood from four healthy volunteers to achieve concentrations of 0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, and 2 mmol/L. The following tests were performed: creatinine (Jaffé and POC), electrolytes (associated with Jaffé and POC), osmolality and nitromethane concentration (gas chromatography [GC]). Remaining samples were refrigerated and reanalyzed using GC at 7 days. Anion and osmolal gaps were calculated. Proportional recovery and degradation of nitromethane were measured using GC. Data were analyzed for agreement with single-factor ANOVA (p = 0.05). RESULTS Mean creatinine for POC and Jaff methods were 0.93 vs. 0.76 mg/dL, respectively. Jaff creatinine concentrations increased linearly with increasing nitromethane concentrations (R(2) = 1, p = 0.01): measured creatinine (mg/dL) = 7.1*nitromethane (mmol/L) = 0.79. POC creatinine remained unchanged across the range of nitromethane concentrations (p = 0.99). Anion and osmolal gaps also remained unchanged. Nitromethane was reliably identified in all sample concentrations using GC on Day 0. Detection of 0.25 mmol/L nitromethane was not consistently recovered on Day 7. Nitromethane degradation was most pronounced at 2 mmol/L concentrations (81% recovery). CONCLUSIONS Nitromethane alters apparent concentration of creatinine using the Jaffé reaction in a linear fashion but not when using the POC reaction. Measured difference between Jaffé and POC creatinine may identify the presence and estimate concentration of nitromethane. Presence of nitromethane did not alter the anion or osmolal gap; thus it would not potentially interfere with the diagnosis of co-exposure to a toxic alcohol.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Post-stroke depression (PSD) is the most common psychiatric complication facing stroke survivors and has been associated with increased distress, physical disability, poor rehabilitation, and suicidal ideation. However, the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying PSD remain unknown, and no objective laboratory-based test is available to aid PSD diagnosis or monitor progression. METHODS Here, an isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ)-based quantitative proteomic approach was performed to identify differentially expressed proteins in plasma samples obtained from PSD, stroke, and healthy control subjects. RESULTS The significantly differentiated proteins were primarily involved in lipid metabolism and immunoregulation. Six proteins associated with these processes--apolipoprotein A-IV (ApoA-IV), apolipoprotein C-II (ApoC-II), C-reactive protein (CRP), gelsolin, haptoglobin, and leucine-rich alpha-2-glycoprotein (LRG)--were selected for Western blotting validation. ApoA-IV expression was significantly upregulated in PSD as compared to stroke subjects. ApoC-II, LRG, and CRP expression were significantly downregulated in both PSD and HC subjects relative to stroke subjects. Gelsolin and haptoglobin expression were significantly dysregulated across all three groups with the following expression profiles: gelsolin, healthy control>PSD>stroke subjects; haptoglobin, stroke>PSD>healthy control. CONCLUSIONS Early perturbation of lipid metabolism and immunoregulation may be involved in the pathophysiology of PSD. The combination of increased gelsolin levels accompanied by decreased haptoglobin levels shows promise as a plasma-based diagnostic biomarker panel for detecting increased PSD risk in post-stroke patients.

Abstract
Iron is essential to life due to its unusual flexibility in serving as both an electron donor and acceptor. However, free iron can damage tissues by catalyzing the conversion of hydrogen peroxide to free-radical ions that attack lipids, proteins and DNA. Hyperoxia-induced lung injury (HILI) occurs when breathing elevated partial pressure of oxygen (usually > 0.5 atmospheres absolute) for extended periods. A few studies have shown that iron and proteins related to iron metabolism are closely related to HILI, and iron chelation may exert protective effects on HILI. As a rate-limiting enzyme in the degradation of heme, heme oxygenases (HOs) play a crucial role in the iron metabolism. Although some studies have been conducted to investigate the role of HOs in the pathogenesis of HILI, findings still conflict, and HOs of different isoforms may function differently in the pathogenesis of HILI. On the available findings, there might be a beneficial threshold of HO-1 expression in HILI. More studies are required to confirm the above findings and to provide evidence for the clinical treatment of HILI by iron chelation.

Abstract
The current study investigated the γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels and GABA metabolic enzymes (GABA transaminase (GABAT) and glutamate decarboxylase (GAD)) activities at 2 and 4 h after treatment, using a high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detectors and colorimetric assay, in the cerebral cortex of mice treated with 20, 40 or 80 mg/kg β-cypermethrin by a single oral gavage, with corn oil as vehicle control. In addition, GABA protein (4 h after treatment), GABAT protein (2 h after treatment) and GABA receptors messenger RNA (mRNA) expression were detected by immunohistochemistry, Western blot and real-time quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction, respectively. β-Cypermethrin (80 mg/kg) significantly increased GABA levels in the cerebral cortex of mice, at both 2 and 4 h after treatment, compared with the control. Also, GABA immunohistochemistry results suggested that the number of positive granules was increased in the cerebral cortex of mice 4 h after exposure to 80 mg/kg β-cypermethrin when compared with the control. Furthermore, the results also showed that GABAT activity detected was significantly decreased in the cerebral cortex of mice 2 h after β-cypermethrin administration (40 or 80 mg/kg). No significant changes were found in GAD activity, or the expression of GABAT protein and GABAB receptors mRNA, in the cerebral cortex of mice, except that 80 mg/kg β-cypermethrin caused a significant decrease, compared with the vehicle control, in GABAA receptors mRNA expression 4 h after administration. These results suggested that attenuated GABAT activity induced by β-cypermethrin contributed to increased GABA levels in the mouse brain. The downregulated GABAA receptors mRNA expression is most likely a downstream event.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The Bosworth technique is old but still widely used. It involves problems of precisely determining the length of the Achilles tendon and of a volume effect in the turndown area. HYPOTHESIS A new reconstruction technique is assessed, based on free sural triceps aponeurosis transfer without turndown, associated to tendon shortening suture. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-three patients were assessed by AOFAS score and clinical examination (plus MRI in 14 cases) at a mean 24.5 months' follow-up. Mean age was 52.1 years. Mean pre-operative AOFAS score was 63.6/100. RESULTS Mean postoperative AOFAS score was 96.1. Mean graft length was 7.5 cm. Surgical revision was required for one case of postoperative infection. Twelve patients resumed leisure sports at their previous level by a mean 9.4 ± 2 months; three competitive sportsmen resumed sport at their previous level by a mean 7.6 months. None were dissatisfied or disappointed with their operation. MRI performed at 1 year found increased tendon volume without abnormality in 57% of cases; 43% showed abnormal images. DISCUSSION Functional results were comparable to literature reports. It can be difficult to determine Achilles length for the Bosworth technique: this is made easier by conserving a fibrous support of a length determined with reference to the healthy side. The technique avoids aponeurosis turndown, and thus avoids the problem of plasty volume effect. The two cases of cutaneous complication occurred in the two most elderly patients, raising the question of the indications for reconstructive surgery in the elderly. The abnormalities found on MRI concerned scar tissue remodeling in patients with good or excellent clinical results. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level IV, retrospective study.

Abstract
We report on the experimental and theoretical study of the spatial fluctuations of the local density of states (EM-LDOS) and of the fluorescence intensity in the near-field of a gold nanoantenna. EM-LDOS, fluorescence intensity and topography maps are acquired simultaneously by scanning a fluorescent nanosource grafted on the tip of an atomic force microscope at the surface of the sample. The results are in good quantitative agreement with numerical simulations. This work paves the way for a full near-field characterization of an optical nanoantenna.

The rheological and mechanical properties of PVC-lignin blends were studied, and their alterations were investigated after lignin was treated with poly(ethyl acrylate-co-maleic anhydride). The addition of lignin changes the early rheological properties of the blend comparing with PVC control because the rigidity of lignin particles leads to more intensive shearing in the system, but has little effect on its rheology during the equilibrium period. The processing stability slightly decreases with the increase of lignin content in the blend. The mechanical properties of the blends are worse than that of PVC control. The rheological properties of the blends are little influenced after lignin is treated with polyacrylate, but the mechanical properties, especially toughness, are improved, and the maximum impact strength is 37.7% higher than that of PVC control.

Abstract
Three novel dialkyl disulfonate gemini surfactants (Cn-6-Cn, n = 6, 8, 12; n is carbon number of hydrophobic chain) were synthesized from cyanuric chloride, aliphatic amine and taurine. The chemical structures of the prepared compounds were confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, IR spectra and ESI-MS. Their critical micelle concentrations (CMC) in the aqueous solutions at 25°C were determined by surface-tension method. With the increasing length of the hydrophobic carbon chain, the values of their CMC decreased. The surface tension measurements of Cn-6-Cn give low CMC, great efficiency in lowering the surface tension, and strong adsorption at air–water interface. In addition, adsorption and micellization behavior of Cn-6-Cn were estimated by the parameter of pC20, the minimum average area per surfactant molecule (Amin).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aims of this study are to summarize our experience of managing ovarian malignancy complicating pregnancy, to discuss the maternal and fetal outcomes, and to review the literature concerned. METHODS Forty-one patients with ovarian malignancies complicating pregnancy at Peking Union Medical College Hospital between 1990 and 2012 were retrospectively reviewed. RESULTS Of the 41 patients, malignancies included epithelial ovarian cancers (13/41, 31.7 %), epithelial borderline ovarian tumors (12/41, 29.3 %), ovarian malignant germ cell tumors (10/41, 24.4 %), sexcord stromal tumors (3/41, 7.3 %), metastatic ovarian tumors (2/41, 4.9 %), and primary ovarian choriocarcinoma (1/41, 2.4 %). The median overall survival was 30 months (range 3-165), with an overall mortality rate of 24.4 %. The pregnancy outcomes included termination in the first trimester (8/41, 19.5 %), full-term vaginal delivery (7/41, 17.0 %), full-term cesarean section (17/41, 41.5 %), and therapeutic cesarean section for premature birth (9/41, 22.0 %). One preterm newborn died, and the remaining 32 survived in healthy status. All patients underwent surgery, and those who deliberately delayed radical surgery had gloomy prognosis. Two patients received chemotherapy during pregnancy, and 24 patients started chemotherapy after pregnancy termination. CONCLUSIONS Management priority should be given to the malignancy of ovarian tumors at any stage of pregnancy. Surgical intervention is the main treatment modality, and delaying of radical surgery is not recommended for patients with suspicion of high malignancy. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment could offer satisfactory prognosis.

Abstract
Intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) has been used clinically for many years. Reports from the RPC indicate that up to 30% of the institutions fail to pass RPC IMRT credentialing process on the first attempt. While volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) has been introduced more recently, it has quickly gained wide clinical use. In spite of the long history with IMRT and rapid adoption of VMAT, commissioning and developing a quality assurance (QA) program continues to be a challenge especially in busy departments. These points indicate that a review of commissioning and quality assurance for IMRT is still very much needed. In this session, the development of an overall IMRT/VMAT QA program, the role of team members and on-going program functions will be described including aspects of both quality and safety. General issues and specifics of IMRT/VMAT commissioning and quality assurance will be covered. While the general principles of commissioning and QA apply to any device capable of intensity-modulation, specific examples will be provided for Elekta and Varian linear accelerators. Strategies for commission and useful checklists will be discussed as well as some differences between Elekta and Varian technologies. There will also be a focus on practical advice towards the implementation and on-going QA of linac-based IMRT and VMAT. Patient- specific QA strategies along with the comparison of different QA equipment and techniques will be presented. Lastly, differences will be highlighted between IMRT and VMAT for patient-specific QA. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1. Understand approaches to IMRT/VMAT commissioning and QA 2. Describe most relevant issues in patient-specific QA for IMRT/VMAT 3. Discuss issues with IMRT /VMAT QA equipment and techniques.

Abstract
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are well known as materials for nanoelectronics and show great potential to be used as the sensing elements in chemical and biological sensors. Recently, CNTs have been shown to be effective nanofluidic channels and the transport of substances through small diameter CNTs is intrinsically fast, selective, and operates at the single molecule level. It has been shown that the transport characteristics of semiconducting single-walled CNT (SWCNT) field effect transistors (FETs) are sensitive to internal water wetting. We report here that the characteristics of semiconducting SWCNT FETs are also sensitive to the concentration, pH and ion type of the ionic solution when the electrolyte is inside the CNT. Such sensitivity is not observed at the outside surface of a semiconducting SWCNT. This opens a new avenue for building new types of CNT sensor devices in which the SWCNT concurrently functions as a nanochannel and an electronic detector.

Abstract
Cancer stem cells (CSCs) have been successfully isolated from solid tumors and are believed to be initiating cells of primary, metastatic and recurrent tumors. Imaging and therapeutic reagents targeted to CSCs have potential to detect subclinical tumors and completely eradicate the disease. Previously, we have demonstrated that Mab CC188 binds to colon cancer CD133- and CD133+ (CSCs) cells. In this study, we examined the reactivity of Mab CC188 to ovarian cancer cells including CD133+ cells and primary tumor tissues using immunofluorescence staining methods and tissue microarray technique. We also explored the feasibility of using NIR dye-labeled Mab CC188 probe to image ovarian tumors in vivo. Mab CC188 stains both CD133- and CD133+ cells of ovarian cancer. Tissue microarray analysis reveals that 75% (92/123) of ovarian cancer cases are positively stained with Mab CC188. Weak positive (±), positive (+), strong positive (++) and very strong positive (+++) stains are 14.8, 3.7, 11 and 24.4%, respectively. In contrast, Mab CC188 staining is low in normal cells and tissues. In vivo study show that significant amounts of the probe accumulates in the excretion organs in the early period postinjection. At 24 hr, the imaging probes have largely accumulates in the tumor, while the intensity of the imaging probe decreases in the liver. The tumor uptake was still evident at 120-hr postinjection. Our work suggests that Mab CC188-based imaging and therapeutic reagents are capable of detecting early stage ovarian tumors and effectively treating the tumor.
