Abstract
Schistosomiasis caused by Schistosoma japonicum is a severe parasitic disease in The People's Republic of China and imposed considerable burden on human and domestic animal health and socioeconomic development. The significant achievement in schistosomiasis control has been made in last 60years. Oncomelania hupensis as the only intermediate host of S. japonicum plays a key role in disease transmission. The habitat complexity of the snails challenges to effective control. In this review we share the experiences in control and research of O. hupensis.

Abstract
We aimed to give a systematic hypothesis on the functions of exercise on circulating monocytes by identifying a discrete set of genes in circulating monocytes that were altered by exercise. The microarray expression profile of GSE51835 was downloaded from gene expression omnibus (GEO) database for the identification of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) using limma and affy packages in R language. Gene Ontology (GO) terms and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis were performed for DEGs, followed by the construction of co-expression network and protein-protein interaction (PPI) network. The top 10 nodes in PPI network were screened, and subnetwork was constructed for the key genes identification. Totally, 35 DEGs, including 2 upregulated genes and 33 downregulated genes, were identified. The enriched GO terms were mainly linked to immune response and defence response, and the enriched KEGG pathways were mainly associated with natural killer cell-mediated cytotoxicity and graft-versus-host disease. Dual-specificity phosphatase 2 (DUSP2) was identified as a key node in the co-expression network. In the PPI network, CD247 module (CD247), chemokine (C-X-C motif) receptor 4 (CXCR4), granzyme B (GZMB) and perforin 1 (PRF1) were identified as key nodes. An important interaction, GZMB/PRF1, was detected. Five key genes, including DUSP2, CD247, CXCR4, GZMB and PRF1, and an interaction of GZMB/PRF1, were significant factors in the immune processes of circulating monocytes, which might be regulated by brief exercises, leading to the enhancement of immune function.

Abstract
The cytoarchitecture and cortical connections of the ventral motor region are investigated using Nissl, and NeuN staining methods and the fluorescent retrograde tract tracing technique in the rhesus monkey. On the basis of gradual laminar differentiation, it is shown that the ventral motor region stems from the ventral proisocortical area (anterior insula and dorsal Sylvian opercular region). The cytoarchitecture of the ventral motor region is shown to progress in three lines, as we have recently shown for the dorsal motor region. Namely, root (anterior insular and dorsal Sylvian opercular area ProM), belt (ventral premotor cortex) and core (precentral motor cortex) lines. This stepwise architectonic organization is supported by the overall patterns of corticocortical connections. Areas in each line are sequentially interconnected (intralineal connections) and all lines are interconnected (interlinear connections). Moreover, root areas, as well as some of the belt areas of the ventral and dorsal trend are interconnected. The ventral motor region is also connected with the ventral somatosensory areas in a topographic manner. The root and belt areas of ventral motor region are connected with paralimbic, multimodal and prefrontal (outer belt) areas. In contrast, the core area has a comparatively more restricted pattern of corticocortical connections. This architectonic and connectional organization is consistent in part, with the functional organization of the ventral motor region as reported in behavioral and neuroimaging studies which include the mediation of facial expression and emotion, communication, phonic articulation, and language in human.

Abstract
Upper extremity hemiplegia is a common consequence of unilateral cortical stroke. Understanding the role of the unaffected cerebral hemisphere in the motor recovery process has been encouraged, in part, by the presence of ipsilateral corticospinal projections (iCSP). We examined the neuroplastic response of the iCSP from the contralesional primary motor cortex (cM1) hand/arm area to spinal levels C5-T1 after spontaneous long-term recovery from isolated frontal lobe injury and isolated frontoparietal injury. High-resolution tract tracing, stereological, and behavioral methodologies were applied. Recovery from frontal motor injury resulted in enhanced numbers of terminal labeled boutons in the iCSP from cM1 compared with controls. Increases occurred in lamina VIII and the adjacent ventral sectors of lamina VII, which are involved in axial/proximal limb sensorimotor processing. Larger frontal lobe lesions were associated with greater numbers of terminal boutons than smaller frontal lobe lesions. In contrast, frontoparietal injury blocked this response; total bouton number was similar to controls, demonstrating that disruption of somatosensory input to one hemisphere has a suppressive effect on the iCSP from the nonlesioned hemisphere. However, compared with controls, elevated bouton numbers occurred in lamina VIII, at the expense of lamina VII bouton labeling. Lamina IX boutons were also elevated in two frontoparietal lesion cases with extensive cortical injury. Because laminae VIII and IX collectively harbor axial, proximal, and distal motoneurons, therapeutic intervention targeting the ipsilateral corticospinal linkage from cM1 may promote proximal, and possibly distal, upper-limb motor recovery following frontal and frontoparietal injury.

Abstract
We aimed to observe the effect of penehyclidine hydrochloride (PHC) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute kidney injury in rats and expression of tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin. Adult male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided randomly (N = 10) into control group (C), LPS group (LPS), low-dose PHC group (L-PHC), and high-dose PHC group (H-PHC). All rats, except C group, received a vena caudalis injection of 5.0 mg/kg LPS; after 30 min, rats in L-PHC and H-PHC groups received a vena caudalis injection of 0.3 and 0.9 mg/kg PHC. After 24 h, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1β, serum creatinine (Scr), and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) were detected. Histopathological changes and expression of ZO-1 and occludin were observed in renal tissues. Versus levels of TNF-α (38.5 ± 9.0), IL-1β (46.3 ± 12.7), Scr (37.2 ± 9.3), and BUN (6.5 ± 1.1) in control group, those in LPS group, TNF-α (159.0 ± 21.3), IL-1β (130.8 ± 18.7), Scr (98.5 ± 18.2), and BUN (12.8 ± 1.8), increased obviously (P < 0.05), with significantly structural changes and decreases of ZO-1 and occludin. However, TNF-α (111.3 ± 11.6), IL-1β (78.4 ± 14.3), Scr (51.3 ± 12.5), BUN (8.1 ± 1.2) in H-PHC group, and TNF-α (120.8 ± 14.3), IL-1β (92.5 ± 19.0), Scr (56.7 ± 14.7), BUN (9.7 ± 1.6) in L-PHC group were obviously decreased (P < 0.05). PHC has protective effects on acute kidney injury in sepsis, including abatement of renal tissue inflammation and functional improvement, potentially by upregulating ZO-1 and occludin.

Abstract
We investigated the correlation between 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene methylation and pre-eclampsia, and its clinical significance, by comparing methylation in the MTHFR gene promoter of the placenta and peripheral venous blood in pre-eclampsia and normal gravidas. We enrolled 259 gravidas from the People's Liberation Army 202nd Hospital, China, between January 2011 and September 2011, including 127 pre-eclampsia and 132 nor-mal gravidas. Methylation levels of the MTHFR gene in placentas in two sets of gravidas were detected by methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction, plasma homocysteine levels were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and folic acid and vitamin B12 levels were detected by electrochemiluminescence. The chi-square test results were analyzed using the SPSS19.0 statistical software. In placentas, the methylation indices were 26.8% (34/127) and 15.2% (20/132) in the pre-eclampsia and normal groups, respectively (χ(2) = 5.30, P < 0.05, odds ratio (OR) = 2.04, 95% confidence interval (95%CI) = 1.10-3.73). In peripheral venous blood, the methylation indices were 22.8% (29/127) and 12.1% (16/132) in pre-eclampsia and normal groups, respectively (χ(2) = 5.17, P < 0.05, OR = 2.15, 95%CI = 1.11-4.15). The plasma methylation level of the pre-eclampsia group was consistent with the normal group. The plasma homocysteine level in the pre-eclampsia group was higher than in the normal group (P < 0.05). Levels of folic acid and vitamin B12 in the pre-eclampsia and normal groups were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Patients with pre-eclampsia have hypermethylation in the MTHFR gene promoter, which may be one of its causes.

Abstract
Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is characterized by the runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2) mutation, which results in delayed tooth eruption due to disturbed functions of dental follicle. Accumulating evidence has revealed a key regulatory circuit, including RUNX2, miR-31, and special AT-rich binding protein 2 (SATB2) acting in concert in mesenchymal stem cell homeostasis and functions. However, whether such a regulatory loop works in dental follicle cells (DFCs) remains unknown. Herein, we investigated the roles of RUNX2-miR-31-SATB2 in DFCs from patients with CCD (DFCs-CCD) to advance our understanding regarding physical tooth eruption. We identified a novel mutation on exon 5 (c.634T>G, p.T212P) in RUNX2 via exome sequencing in the CCD patient with typical clinical presentations. Compared with DFCs from healthy donors, DFCs-CCD displayed significantly lower osteogenic, osteoclast-inductive, and matrix-degrading capacities and had lower RUNX2 (a transcriptional inhibitor of miR-31), higher miR-31, and downregulated SATB2. Lower ratios of RANKL/OPG and RANKL/RANK, as well as decreased expression of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) and matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2), would lead to inactivation of osteoclasts and suppression of bone matrix remodeling in DFCs-CCD. Furthermore, the roles of the RUNX2-miR-31-SATB2 loop in DFCs-CCD were revealed by endogenous miR-31 knockdown, which resulted in increased SATB2 and RUNX2, as well as osteoclast-inductive and matrix degradation capacities. Conversely, SATB2, RUNX2, MMP9, MMP2, and osteoclast-inductive factors expression declined upon ectopic miR-31 overexpression in normal DFCs. Importantly, neonatal mice with in vivo siRUNX2 delivery exhibited less activated osteoclasts around dental follicles and delayed tooth eruption. Together, these results suggest that RUNX2 mutation/haploinsufficiency disturbs osteoclast-inductive signaling in DFCs, which may be responsible for delayed tooth eruption in CCD patients. Manipulation of the RUNX2-miR-31-SATB2 loop may be a potential way to facilitate tooth eruption in CCD patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Epidemiological studies on aspirin and stomach cancer have been inconclusive. The purpose of our study was to investigate the association between aspirin and stomach cancer in China. METHOD A 1:2 matched case-control study was conducted in four large medical centers. A self-designed questionnaire was used to collect information. Unconditional logistic regression was used to compute crude and adjusted odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULT Our study indicated that risk of stomach cancer was greatly reduced for regular aspirin user (OR = 0.62; 95% CI 0.42-0.80). Specifically, dosage and tablet-years of use were associated with lower risk (OR = 0.54; 95% CI 0.29-0.84 for ≥7 tabs/week; OR = 0.47; 95% CI 0.32-0.81 for ≥10 tablet years, respectively). Furthermore, the finding was strengthened by stratified studies of gender, smoking status, body mass index (BMI) and helicobacter pylori. CONCLUSION Our study confirmed that regular aspirin use is a protective factor to stomach cancer.

Abstract
The aim of this work was to illustrate the contributions of delignification and the introduced sulfonic groups on the enzymatic digestibility of the Na2SO3-pretreated hybrid poplar with poor residual hemicelluloses (HPPRH). The higher the content of the introduced sulfonic group in the pretreated HPPRH was, the higher its enzymatic digestibility could be achieved. Delignification was favorable to increasing the content of sulfonic group in the pretreated HPPRH. The introduced sulfonic group contributed much more to the total glucose yield at low level of residual lignin. The introduced sulfonic groups could contribute 17.30% of total glucose yield (92.70%) and delignification could do 38.43% of it. Meanwhile, the delignification rate and the sulfonic group content in the pretreated HPRH were 59.88% and 283.51mmolkg(-1) lignin, respectively. Therefore, the sulfonic group introduced on the pretreated lignocellulosics could improve the enzymatic digestibility and make the sulfite process effective.

Abstract
Concurrent damage to the lateral frontal and parietal cortex is common following middle cerebral artery infarction, leading to upper extremity paresis, paresthesia, and sensory loss. Motor recovery is often poor, and the mechanisms that support or impede this process are unclear. Since the medial wall of the cerebral hemisphere is commonly spared following stroke, we investigated the spontaneous long-term (6 and 12 month) effects of lateral frontoparietal injury (F2P2 lesion) on the terminal distribution of the corticospinal projection (CSP) from intact, ipsilesional supplementary motor cortex (M2) at spinal levels C5 to T1. Isolated injury to the frontoparietal arm/hand region resulted in a significant loss of contralateral corticospinal boutons from M2 compared with controls. Specifically, reductions occurred in the medial and lateral parts of lamina VII and the dorsal quadrants of lamina IX. There were no statistical differences in the ipsilateral CSP. Contrary to isolated lateral frontal motor injury (F2 lesion), which results in substantial increases in contralateral M2 labeling in laminae VII and IX (McNeal et al. [2010] J. Comp. Neurol. 518:586-621), the added effect of adjacent parietal cortex injury to the frontal motor lesion (F2P2 lesion) not only impedes a favorable compensatory neuroplastic response but results in a substantial loss of M2 CSP terminals. This dramatic reversal of the CSP response suggests a critical trophic role for cortical somatosensory influence on spared ipsilesional frontal corticospinal projections, and that restoration of a favorable compensatory response will require therapeutic intervention.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The intracerebral hemorrhage drainage through minimally invasive approach is emerging as an alternative for traditional craniotomy, due to its improved survival rate and reduced complication rate. In this study, we investigated the feasibility and safety of a flat detector CT-based puncture planning and navigation system for minimally invasive hematoma drainage on patients with intracerebral hemorrhage. MATERIALS AND METHODS The minimally invasive hematoma drainage was performed on 21 hypertensive patients with intracerebral hemorrhage in the angiographic suite with the guidance of a flat detector CT-based puncture planning and navigation system. This system is integrated in the angiographic machine, and was used for 1) planning the needle path based on a preprocedural flat detector CT scan, 2) advancing the catheter with real-time fluoroscopic guidance, and 3) confirming the procedure outcome based on an immediate postprocedural flat detector CT. The surgery efficiency, accuracy, and the treatment outcome were measured and compared with the published data. RESULTS All procedures were successfully completed with the catheter placed 4 ± 1 mm from the planned position. The average surgery time was 40 ± 7 minutes. The volume of the hematoma was reduced to 28 ± 4% of the original volume. The Glasgow Coma Scale score was significantly improved from 10 ± 1 at the admission to 14 ± 1 at the discharge. The Extended Glasgow Coma Scale score also improved from 5 ± 1 at the discharge to 6 ± 1 at the 6-month follow-up. No major complication, rebleeding, and mortality were observed in this study. CONCLUSIONS This flat detector CT-based needle guidance system provided a feasible, convenient, and safe way to perform the puncture and drainage of brain hematoma in the angiographic suite.

Abstract
We have presented an innovative laser-assisted reduction surgery (LARS) based on plasma-induced ablation and photodisruption effects. In addition, we developed a laser operation system. Fetuses of mice from the Institute for Cancer Research that were immersed in physiological saline were irradiated by convergent-pulsed laser with a wavelength of 1064 nm, pulse width of 6 ns, and pulse energy of 50 mJ. The hearts of the postirradiated fetuses were significantly damaged, which resulted in rapid fetal death. We also substantiated the safety of LARS by analyzing the heat distribution of the induced laser pulse with thermal distribution equations. The results demonstrate that this innovative method for pregnancy reduction is feasible.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Abnormal functioning of 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) enhances the risk for coronary heart disease (CHD). Here, we tested whether a single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) located in the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of MTHFR was associated with CHD susceptibility by affecting microRNAs binding. METHODS AND RESULTS We first analyzed in silico the SNPs localized in the 3' UTR of MTHFR for their ability to modify miRNA binding. We observed that rs4846049 (G > T) was a potential candidate SNP to modulate miRNAs:MTHFR mRNA complex, with the greatest changed binding free energy for has-miR-149. Based on luciferase analysis, hsa-miR-149 inhibited the activity of the reporter vector carrying -T allele, but not -G allele. We further conducted a case-control study (654 vs 455) in a Chinese Han population. rs4846049 was significantly associated with increased risk for CHD. In addition, the T allele was associated with decreased levels of HDL-cholesterol and apoA. Finally, we observed a reduced MTHFR protein level in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of CHD patients with TT carriers compared to GG carriers of rs4846049. CONCLUSION Our results suggest that rs4846049 (G > T) of MTHFR is associated with increased risk for CHD. We also identified a potentially pathogenetic mechanism of SNP-modified posttranscriptional gene regulation by miRNAs to MTHFR.

Abstract
Glucocorticoids (GCs) resistance is frequently encountered in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), especially in T-ALL, which usually results in failure of treatment. To find new agent to overcome GC resistance of ALL is an urgent problem. Here we investigated potential effect of anisomycin on GC-resistant T-ALL CEM-C1 cells and explored involved molecular mechanisms. Dramatic growth inhibition and apoptosis in GC resistant CEM-C1 cells and GC-sensitive CEM-C7 cells induced by anisomycin were observed, which presented in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. Correspondingly, anisomycin induced cleaved caspase-3 and up-regulation of pro-apoptotic proteins (BimEL and Bad), meanwhile down-regulation of anti-apoptotic proteins (Mcl-1 and Bcl-2), both in a dose- and time-dependent manner in GC resistant CEM-C1 cells. Anisomycin also induced cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase in CEM-C1 cells through increasing expressions of p21 and p27, and attenuating the expression of cyclinA. The rapid up-regulation of phosphorylated mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) p38 and Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) were observed after CEM-C1 cells were incubated with anisomycin. The activation of p38 and JNK could be blocked by respective inhibitors (SB203580 for p38 and SP600125 for JNK) accompanied with the inhibition of apoptosis and changes of apoptosis associated proteins in CEM-C1 cells. These results suggested that anisomycin induced apoptosis of CEM-C1 cells via activation of p38 and JNK, and might be an attractive new agent for treatment of GC-resistant ALL.

Abstract
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the most common chronic diseases in China. This aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of CVDs and risk factors in Chinese impaired glucose regulation subjects.We used a multistage, stratified sampling method to select subjects from the general Chinese population aged 20 years and older. Subjects underwent an oral glucose tolerance test to identify normal glucose tolerance (NGT) and impaired glucose regulation including isolated impaired fasting glucose (i-IFG), impaired glucose tolerance (i-IGT), and combined IFG/IGT and diabetic mellitus (DM). A logistic regression analysis was performed to examine the association between glucose abnormalities and CVD events.We identified that 34 293 subjects had NGT, 1 469 i-IFG, 4 571 i-IGT, 957 IFG/IGT and 4 949 DM. The age-sex standardized prevalence rate of cardiovascular disease was 1.06% (95% CI 0.87-1.28), 1.79% (95% CI 1.37-2.33) and 3.83% (95% CI 2.79-5.24) in NGT, impaired glucose regulation and DM, respectively. Among impaired glucose subjects, prevalence of defined CVD risk factors (smoking, overweight, obesity, hypertension and dyslipidemia) was 29.52% (95% CI: 27.8-31.21), 36.25% (95% CI: 34.29-38.26), 10.05% (95% CI: 8.86-11.37), 36.43% (95% CI: 34.53-38.36) and 69.96% (95% CI: 67.87-71.98), respectively. Compared to 1 risk factor, the odds ratios (ORs) of CVDs with 2, 3 or 4 risk factors were 1.94 (95% CI: 0.74-5.09), 2.76 (95% CI: 1.06-7.21) and 5.84 (95% CI: 1.68-20.26), respectively. Additionally, compared to i-IFGs, ORs of CVDs with i-IGT and IFG/IGT were 2.88 (95%CI 1.36-6.01) and 2.12 (95% CI 0.83-5.44), respectively.The prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors was high in the Chinese impaired glucose regulation population. The postprandial hyperglycemia is more associated with CVD than isolated fasting hyperglycemia.

Abstract
We propose a novel axial nano-displacement measuring approach. Based on asymmetrical illumination, the axial drifts of the sample plane can be measured by detecting the position of the centroid of the focal spot. Both CCD and QD are used as the detector in the system and two data processing models are designed. With a relatively simple and applicable configuration, the proposed system can realize a wide measuring range of >4λand a high axial resolution of 2nm. Moreover, the presented approach is immune to the influence caused by the energy fluctuation of the laser source. Possessing these advantages, this measuring method has big potential to be applied in modern engineering and scientific researches.

Abstract
Applying image subtraction strategy together with time-gated detection, we can reveal finer details in a fixed cell sample using moderate light intensities. The subtractive imaging is obtained from the subtraction of a suitably weighted short lifetime intensity-image from a long lifetime one, while the weight coefficient can be selected using the analysis of an optical transfer function. Compared with other subtractive methods, ours is regarded as an optimized variation of gated stimulated emission depletion microscopy and can be implemented in a simpler manner, providing lateral super-resolution, and it is theoretically possible to further expand its application scope.

Abstract
We present here a stimulated emission based fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) scheme using a pair of synchronized diode lasers operating at gain switched pulse mode. The two semiconductor lasers, with wavelengths at 635 nm and 700 nm, serve as the excitation and the stimulation light sources for the ATTO647N labeled sample, respectively. FLIM is readily achieved with their relative time delay controlled electronically. The coherent nature of the stimulated emission signal also allows FLIM at long working distance. In this way, a high performance all-semiconductor FLIM module is realized in a flexible, compact, and cost effective configuration.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Ex vivo expansion of CD34(+) cells has become critically important in order to obtain sufficient haematopoietic stem cells for clinical application. Among major regulators involved in ex vivo expansion, telomerase activity and apoptosis have been revealed to be closely linked to cell cycle progression. However, all exact roles remain to be elucidated. Here, change in telomerase activity and level of apoptosis in cord blood (CB) CD34(+) cells were evaluated together with specific cell population growth rate during ex vivo culture. MATERIALS AND METHODS CD34(+) cells isolated from human CB were expanded ex vivo over a 28-day period. Besides monitoring cell proliferation kinetics of the CD34(+) cells, changes in telomerase activity and apoptotic levels were investigated. Several relevant genes were quantified by qRT-PCR during the culture period. RESULTS Significant elevation of telomerase activity had close relationship to activation of CB CD34(+) cell expansion. Peak apoptotic level was accompanied by a remarkable decline in cell-specific growth rate, and apoptotic level of differentiated CD34(-) population was significantly higher than that of the CD34(+) population. CONCLUSION Although telomerase activity was activated during the culture, expansion of CB CD34(+) cells seemed to be more susceptible to apoptotic suppression when cultured ex vivo, which implied that apoptosis may serve as a rate-limiting factor involved in controlling expansion efficiency.

Abstract
Receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs), the common products of transforming oncogenes, have been widely used as indicators in the genesis and progression of human tumors. Until now, the erythropoietin-producing human hepatocellular (Eph) receptors have been recognized as the largest family of RTKs. EphA2, one member of Eph receptors, locates on human chromosome 1p36.1 which is a hot region for cancer research. It has been reported that high EphA2 expression levels were correlated with the tumor metastasis and poor prognosis. Increased expression of EphA2 can promote tumor growth and enhance the metastatic potential. To further define the function of EphA2 in malignant invasion, we employed the small interference RNA (siRNA) technique to knockdown gene expression of EphA2 in the gastric cancer SGC-7901 cell. Our results showed that the expression of double stranded RNA led to the efficient and specific inhibition of endogenous EphA2 expression in SGC-7901 cells. Silencing of EphA2 expression inhibited cell proliferation, caused cell cycle arrest, and decreased cell invasion in vitro. In addition, intratumoral injection EphA2 siRNA plasmid suppressed the growth of SGC-7901 cells xenografts in nude mice. Furthermore, knockdown of EphA2 expression reduced the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in vitro and in vivo. In conclusion, our findings demonstrate that silencing of EphA2 inhibits gastric cancer SGC-7901 cell proliferation, invasion and MMP-9 expression, which indicate that the specific inhibition of EphA2 may be a potential approach for gastric cancer therapy.

Abstract
A parameter x is introduced to characterize the strength of thermal lens spherical aberration, whose influences on resonator's stable zones are analyzed theoretically. Some new and helpful results are obtained. For symmetrical plane-plane cavity, spherical aberration has just influence on the back edge of stable zone. For asymmetrical plane-plane cavity, spherical aberration has influence on the back edges of the two stable zones and the front edge of the second stable zone. Effects of transverse mode collapsing to TEM00 mode and stable zones separation of different order's transverse modes are pointed out, which is the foundation of TEM00 mode output power scaling for solid state laser oscillator. Influences of parameters such as resonator's long arm length, short arm length, and pump beam radius on the extent to which of stable zones separation of different order transverse modes are discussed. An experimental setup of a high power diodes dual-end pumped Nd:YVO4 TEM00 mode laser oscillator is built up and investigated experimentally. 51.2 W TEM00 mode output power in CW operation is achieved with an optical-to-optical efficiency of about 50% and beam quality factor M2 being 1.2.

Abstract
We show the existence of a novel type of interstitial cell-telocytes (TC) in mouse trachea and lungs. We used cell cultures, vital stainings, as well as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and immunohistochemistry (IHC). Phase contrast microscopy on cultured cells showed cells with unequivocally characteristic morphology of typical TC (cells with telopodes-Tp). SEM revealed typical TC with two to three Tp-very long and branched cell prolongations. Tp consist of an alternation of thin segments (podomers) and thick segments (podoms). The latter accommodate mitochondria (as shown by Janus Green and MitoTracker), rough endoplasmic reticulum and caveolae. TEM showed characteristic podomers and podoms as well as close relationships with nerve endings and blood capillaries. IHC revealed positive expression of TC for c-kit, vimentin and CD34. In conclusion, this study shows the presence in trachea and lungs of a peculiar type of cells, which fulfils the criteria for TC.

Abstract
The cytoarchitecture and cortical connections of the anterior cingulate, medial and dorsal premotor, and precentral region are investigated using the Nissl and NeuN staining methods and the fluorescent retrograde tract tracing technique. There is a gradual stepwise laminar change in the cytoarchitectonic organization from the proisocortical anterior cingulate region, through the lower and upper banks of the cingulate sulcus, to the dorsolateral isocortical premotor and precentral motor regions of the frontal lobe. These changes are characterized by a gradational emphasis on the lower stratum layers (V and VI) in the proisocortical cingulate region to the upper stratum layers (II and III) in the premotor and precentral motor region. This is accompanied by a progressive widening of layers III and VI, a poorly delineated border between layers III and V and a sequential increase in the size of layer V neurons culminating in the presence of giant Betz cells in the precentral motor region. The overall patterns of corticocortical connections paralleled the sequential changes in cytoarchitectonic organization. The proisocortical areas have connections with cingulate motor, supplementary motor, premotor and precentral motor areas on the one hand and have widespread connections with the frontal, parietal, temporal and multimodal association cortex and limbic regions on the other. The dorsal premotor areas have connections with the proisocortical areas including cingulate motor areas and supplementary motor area on the one hand, and premotor and precentral motor cortex on the other. Additionally, this region has significant connections with posterior parietal cortex and limited connections with prefrontal, limbic and multimodal regions. The precentral motor cortex also has connections with the proisocortical areas and premotor areas. Its other connections are limited to the somatosensory regions of the parietal lobe. Since the isocortical motor areas on the dorsal convexity mediate voluntary motor function, their close connectional relationship with the cingulate areas form a pivotal limbic-motor interface that could provide critical sources of cognitive, emotional and motivational influence on complex motor function.

Abstract
In end-pumped Nd:YVO₄ amplifiers, beam quality improvement is obtained both in theory and in experiments. A theoretical model of gain-guided laser amplifier is developed by comprehensively considering thermal effect, gain guiding and gain saturation effect. Several key parameters of the amplifier are discussed such as the input beam quality, the beam filling factor between input beam and pump beam, the ratio between input power and pump power, and the length of laser crystal. The theoretical results are confirmed by the experiments.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Ex vivo expansion is a feasible strategy, which may overcome limitation of the very low frequency of haematopoietic stem/progenitor cells, in umbilical cord blood (UCB). However, both quality of cells and safety of expanded population are critical issues to be addressed for their clinical application. Hence, in this study, we evaluated genetic stability of UCB-derived CD34(+) cells during ex vivo culture, based on karyotype analysis, as well as its effect on cell proliferation characteristics. MATERIALS AND METHODS CD34(+) cells were isolated from human UCB samples by immunomagnetic separation and were expanded ex vivo over a 28-day period. Expansion of total nucleate cells, CD34(+) cells and CD34(+) CD38(-) cells was investigated. Karyotype analysis of the expanded cells from six randomly selected UCB samples was performed to evaluate their genetic stability. RESULTS Chromosomal abnormality of expanded cells mainly appeared by day 14, but was seldom sustained until day 28. None of the chromosomal abnormal samples displayed neoplastic proliferation, and expanded cells with altered chromosomes did not show obvious transformation phenomena according to soft agar assay. CONCLUSIONS Ex vivo expansion could lead to occurrence of chromosomal abnormality, although here it did not produce excessive proliferative advantage of the expended cells. Importantly, chromosomal alteration seemed not to be inheritable and unlikely to result in malignant transformation. However, further in-depth evaluation of potential clinical risks of chromosomal abnormality is warranted.
