Measurement of the Low-Energy Antideuteron Inelastic Cross Section. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 125:162001. Abstract
In this Letter, we report the first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions at low particle momenta, covering a range of 0.3≤p<4 GeV/c. The measurement is carried out using p-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon pair of sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC and utilizing the detector material as an absorber for antideuterons and antiprotons. The extracted raw primary antiparticle-to-particle ratios are compared to the results from detailed ALICE simulations based on the geant4 toolkit for the propagation of (anti)particles through the detector material. The analysis of the raw primary (anti)proton spectra serves as a benchmark for this study, since their hadronic interaction cross sections are well constrained experimentally. The first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions averaged over the ALICE detector material with atomic mass numbers ⟨A⟩=17.4 and 31.8 is obtained. The measured inelastic cross section points to a possible excess with respect to the Glauber model parametrization used in geant4 in the lowest momentum interval of 0.3≤p<0.47 GeV/c up to a factor 2.1. This result is relevant for the understanding of antimatter propagation and the contributions to antinuclei production from cosmic ray interactions within the interstellar medium. In addition, the momentum range covered by this measurement is of particular importance to evaluate signal predictions for indirect dark-matter searches.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Antibiotic therapy remains the first-line treatment for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). However, literature data on its comparative clinical efficacy and safety are limited. AIM To investigate the efficacy of tetracycline (lymecycline 300 mg daily) vs. the combination therapy clindamycin and rifampicin (600 mg plus 600 mg daily) by evaluating and comparing the clinical response at the end of antibiotic treatment (10 weeks). METHODS The study retrospectively analysed 52 patients divided in two groups of 26 patients: Group A received lymecycline and Group B received clindamycin plus rifampicin for 10 weeks. Subjects had mild, moderate and severe HS. The clinical and ultrasonography extent of disease was measured by the Hurley Score, Sonographic Score of Hidradenitis Suppurativa, International Hidradenitis Suppurativa Severity Score System (IHS4), pain visual analogue scale (pain VAS) and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). The primary outcome was the clinical response at the end of the antibiotic treatment period, according to the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Clinical Response measure. RESULTS Both groups showed a significant improvement in IHS4, pain VAS and DLQI from baseline, but this was more marked in Group A. Reductions in nodule counts were similar between the two groups, whereas the number of abscesses and draining tunnels decreased more in Group B. Disease-free survival was similar between the two groups. CONCLUSION Lymecycline monotherapy and clindamycin plus rifampicin combination are both effective treatments for patients with moderate-severe HS. Nodular-type HS seems to respond better to lymecycline, whereas the abscess/tunnel type seems to respond better to clindamycin plus rifampicin.

Abstract
PURPOSE Psoriasis, Psoriatic Arthritis and Nail psoriasis are chronic diseases that share a common underlying etiology of immunity dysregulation, enhanced activation of inflammatory pathways and remitting-relapsing course. Although nails represent a small percentage of the body surface involvement of this site can lead to impaired quality of life, severe discomfort and even result in permanent disability. Current therapeutic options for nail psoriasis include a variety of topical and systemic treatments although they are often reported as unsatisfactory from patients either due to their poor effectiveness or disturbing side effects. Recently small molecule drugs such as the PDE4 inhibitors were introduced in clinical practice and specifically apremilast has shown to be an effective new treatment option for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Considering either the specific mechanism of action of apremilast, we performed a real-life observational study of 24 weeks assessing apremilast role in nail psoriasis. MATHERIALS AND METHODS Patients received apremilast 30mg bid, orally. Safety and efficacy were assessed at weeks 0, 4, 8, 12 and 24 using Dermatologic Life Quality Index (DLQI) and Nail Area Psoriasis Severity Index (NAPSI). At T0 we took a nail sample to investigate the presence of onychomycosis. Culture tests were performed in all the patients to search for fungi. RESULTS We recruited a total of 15 patients with nail psoriasis. The analysis of variance (one-way ANOVA) showed the following results: DLQI (F.15.7; p-value < .00001) and NAPSI (F.9.4; p-value < .00001). Three patients (20%) presented also onychomycoses at the beginning of the treatment. CONCLUSIONS Apremilast showed fast and sustained improvement of nail psoriasis over time and a complete resolution of life quality impairment due to the disease.

Probing the Effects of Strong Electromagnetic Fields with Charge-Dependent Directed Flow in Pb-Pb Collisions at the LHC. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 125:022301. Abstract
The first measurement at the LHC of charge-dependent directed flow (v_{1}) relative to the spectator plane is presented for Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. Results are reported for charged hadrons and D^{0} mesons for the transverse momentum intervals p_{T}>0.2 GeV/c and 3<p_{T}<6 GeV/c in the 5%-40% and 10%-40% centrality classes, respectively. The difference between the positively and negatively charged hadron v_{1} has a positive slope as a function of pseudorapidity η, dΔv_{1}/dη=[1.68±0.49(stat)±0.41(syst)]×10^{-4}. The same measurement for D^{0} and D[over ¯]^{0} mesons yields a positive value dΔv_{1}/dη=[4.9±1.7(stat)±0.6(syst)]×10^{-1}, which is about 3 orders of magnitude larger than the one of the charged hadrons. These measurements can provide new insights into the effects of the strong electromagnetic field and the initial tilt of matter created in noncentral heavy ion collisions on the dynamics of light (u, d, and s) and heavy (c) quarks. The large difference between the observed Δv_{1} of charged hadrons and D^{0} mesons may reflect different sensitivity of the charm and light quarks to the early time dynamics of a heavy ion collision. These observations challenge some recent theoretical calculations, which predicted a negative and an order of magnitude smaller value of dΔv_{1}/dη for both light flavor and charmed hadrons.

Evidence of Spin-Orbital Angular Momentum Interactions in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2020; 125:012301. Abstract
The first evidence of spin alignment of vector mesons (K^{*0} and ϕ) in heavy-ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is reported. The spin density matrix element ρ_{00} is measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy (sqrt[s_{NN}]) of 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector. ρ_{00} values are found to be less than 1/3 (1/3 implies no spin alignment) at low transverse momentum (p_{T}<2 GeV/c) for K^{*0} and ϕ at a level of 3σ and 2σ, respectively. No significant spin alignment is observed for the K_{S}^{0} meson (spin=0) in Pb-Pb collisions and for the vector mesons in pp collisions. The measured spin alignment is unexpectedly large but qualitatively consistent with the expectation from models which attribute it to a polarization of quarks in the presence of angular momentum in heavy-ion collisions and a subsequent hadronization by the process of recombination.

Abstract
Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory systemic disease that affects 2% of the population and is associated with an important physical and physiological burden. About 0.5-2% of psoriatic cases onset during the pediatric age range, and often it's not diagnosed until adulthood. Adalimumab is an antitumor necrosis factor monoclonal antibody approved for use in children in 2008 and now it was used in several diseases in rheumatology, gastroenterology, and in dermatology.Areas covered: The purpose of this article was to summarize what has been described in the literature so far, about safety in the use of adalimumab in pediatric psoriasis. The presented data was extrapolated from a literature review from PubMed searches (using words 'pediatric psoriasis,' 'adalimumab children,' 'adalimumab safety,' 'pediatric psoriasis treatment,' 'adalimumab clinical trial'), treatment guidelines, and reports from European and United States regulatory agencies.Expert opinion: Actually there are some biologic agents for the treatment of pediatric psoriasis, but the lack of safety data from controlled trials is evident. The safety data on the use of adalimumab in pediatric psoriasis was taken from long-term studies in the adult population. These studies confirm the data on the safety of the drug as it is also supported by several works on real-life.

Evidence for a 'window of opportunity' in hidradenitis suppurativa treated with adalimumab: a retrospective, real-life multicentre cohort study. Br J Dermatol 2020; 184:133-140. Abstract
BACKGROUND The anti-tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α adalimumab is the only licenced biologic for moderate-to-severe hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). No predictors of response have been identified so far. OBJECTIVES To identify clinical parameters predicting response to adalimumab and confirm its efficacy/safety. METHODS The data of 389 patients with HS treated with adalimumab in 21 Italian centres were reviewed. Sex, age at onset/diagnosis/baseline, body mass index, smoking, phenotype, previous treatments, concomitant antibiotics and 'therapeutic delay', defined as the time from HS onset to adalimumab initiation, were assessed. Response to adalimumab and its impact on quality of life (QoL) were evaluated using the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Clinical Response (HiSCR) and the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) or the Visual Analogue Scale for pain (VAS pain), respectively. Logistic regression analysis was performed. RESULTS The therapeutic delay correlated to lack of response to adalimumab at week 16 [odds ratio (OR) 1·92 for therapeutic delay > 10 years; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1·28-2·89; P = 0·0016). HiSCR was achieved in 43·7% and 53·9% patients at week 16 and 52, respectively. Significant reductions in both DLQI and VAS pain were found between week 16 vs. baseline (P < 0·0001 for both) and week 52 vs. baseline (P < 0·0001 for both). Previous immunosuppressants inversely correlated to HiSCR at week 52 (OR = 1·74, 95% CI 1·04-2·91, P = 0·0342). CONCLUSIONS Inverse correlation between therapeutic delay and clinical response was found, supporting early adalimumab use and providing evidence for a 'window of opportunity' in HS treatment. Adalimumab efficacy and safety were confirmed, along with patients' QoL improvement. Immunosuppressants could negatively influence the response to adalimumab inducing a switch to non-TNF-α-driven pathways.

Abstract
The study of the strength and behavior of the antikaon-nucleon (K[over ¯]N) interaction constitutes one of the key focuses of the strangeness sector in low-energy quantum chromodynamics (QCD). In this Letter a unique high-precision measurement of the strong interaction between kaons and protons, close and above the kinematic threshold, is presented. The femtoscopic measurements of the correlation function at low pair-frame relative momentum of (K^{+}p⊕K^{-}p[over ¯]) and (K^{-}p⊕K^{+}p[over ¯]) pairs measured in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=5, 7, and 13 TeV are reported. A structure observed around a relative momentum of 58 MeV/c in the measured correlation function of (K^{-}p⊕K^{+}p[over ¯]) with a significance of 4.4σ constitutes the first experimental evidence for the opening of the (K[over ¯]^{0}n⊕K^{0}n[over ¯]) isospin breaking channel due to the mass difference between charged and neutral kaons. The measured correlation functions have been compared to Jülich and Kyoto models in addition to the Coulomb potential. The high-precision data at low relative momenta presented in this work prove femtoscopy to be a powerful complementary tool to scattering experiments and provide new constraints above the K[over ¯]N threshold for low-energy QCD chiral models.

Creation of a severity index for hidradenitis suppurativa that includes a validated quality-of-life measure: the HIDRAscore. J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol 2020; 34:1815-1821. Abstract
Background Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, debilitating disease with a considerable effect on patient quality of life. Its clinical severity can be measured using different scoring systems; however, few of them include patient‐centred parameters. Objective To create a new scoring system for HS that includes a quality‐of‐life instrument, the HIDRAdisk. Methods This post hoc analysis was carried out within the framework of a multicentre, longitudinal, epidemiologic study conducted over 9 months on quality‐of‐life aspects of HS. The new severity score was created using as reference a question from the Subject Satisfaction Questionnaire (SSQ) concerning the severity of HS as evaluated by the patient. Associated variables were selected using univariable and multivariable logistic regression models. The discriminant capabilities of the final model and of the final score were evaluated by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve and the Hosmer–Lemeshow test. Results The study population included 308 patients with HS of any severity grade. According to the results of the regression models, the variables associated with the reference SSQ measure were number of inflammatory nodules, abscesses and draining fistulas; the HIDRAdisk score; and the number of subumbilical lesions. The HIDRAscore is obtained by the sum of the scores associated with the number of these parameters. Possible scores range from 0 to 10. Conclusion The HIDRAscore is a new scoring system for HS severity which, in addition to the clinical evaluation by the physician, includes a validated patient‐reported outcome measure, the HIDRAdisk.

Abstract
Background: Real-life data often highlight the side effects of certain drugs not previously reported in randomized controlled trials (RCTs).Objective: To describe cutaneous inflammatory eruptions in psoriatic patients treated with an anti IL-17A agent (secukinumab or ixekizumab). Methods: Retrospective analysis of a cohort of patients with chronic plaque psoriasis who started an anti IL-17A agent between September 2016-February 2019 and who developed cutaneous inflammatory eruptions during treatment. A systematic review of similar events reported in the literature was performed. Results: Data of 468 patients were reviewed and 27 cutaneous inflammatory eruptions of 27 (5.8%) patients were collected. The eruptions appeared after a mean of 16.9 ± 17.0 weeks of therapy showing a classical acute eczema in 11 patients (40.7%), an atopic dermatitis-like rash in 11 patients (40.7%) and a psoriasiform eruption in 5 patients (18.5%). Histopathology of 12/27 cases showed epidermal spongiosis in all these variants. Conclusion: We described the clinic-pathologic features of some eczematous eruptions occurring in psoriatic patients, 3-4 months after treatment initiation with an anti IL-17A agent. Further investigations are needed to explain this phenomenon, that might be defined a paradoxical adverse event, based upon the role of IL17 in eczema pathogenesis.

Abstract
The first measurement of the ϒ(1S) elliptic flow coefficient (v_{2}) is performed at forward rapidity (2.5<y<4) in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The results are obtained with the scalar product method and are reported as a function of transverse momentum (p_{T}) up to 15 GeV/c in the 5%-60% centrality interval. The measured ϒ(1S)v_{2} is consistent with 0 and with the small positive values predicted by transport models within uncertainties. The v_{2} coefficient in 2<p_{T}<15 GeV/c is lower than that of inclusive J/ψ mesons in the same p_{T} interval by 2.6 standard deviations. These results, combined with earlier suppression measurements, are in agreement with a scenario in which the ϒ(1S) production in Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energies is dominated by dissociation limited to the early stage of the collision, whereas in the J/ψ case there is substantial experimental evidence of an additional regeneration component.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the effectiveness, safety, and overall survival (OS) of thermal ablation as upfront treatment of intrahepatic colangiocarcinoma (ICC) in patients with cirrhosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS This was a retrospective analysis of all biopsy-confirmed ICC in cirrhotic patients treated in the authors' unit from 2001 to 2017. Baseline characteristics, ablation procedures, and complications were recorded, and time to recurrence (TTR) and OS were calculated. Twenty-seven patients were identified. Seventy percent had Child-Pugh A disease, and most had clinically significant portal hypertension. Median tumor size was 21 mm. Twenty-one cases were uninodular, and 10 were single ≤ 2 cm. RESULTS Complete radiologic necrosis was achieved in 25 cases (92.6%). Median OS was 30.6 months (95% confidence interval [CI], 22.6-46.5), and recurrence was detected in 21 cases (77.8%) with a TTR of 10.1 months (95% CI, 7.7-20.9). In those patients with single ≤ 2-cm ICC, the OS was 94.5 months (95% CI, 11.7-not reached). Differences in OS were statistically significant between patients with single ICC ≤ 2 cm and patients with single ICC > 2 cm (P = .04) and between patients with single ICC > 2 cm and patients with multinodular ICC (P = .02). Only 1 patient had a treatment-related complication. CONCLUSIONS Thermal ablation is a safe and effective treatment for ICC in patients with cirrhosis who are not candidates for surgery. The OS is similar to that reported in surgical series, but the initial treatment success is hampered by a high rate of tumor recurrence. Encouraging long-term survival after thermal ablation is achieved in patients with single ≤ 2-cm ICC.

Abstract
PURPOSE One of the best indicators of adrenal gland dysfunction is the level of free cortisol measured in the 24-h urine (UFC) which faithfully reflects the level of biologically active serum cortisol not subjected to circadian variations. Liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS) is a sensitive, accurate and precise method recently available in routine laboratories that could remedy interference problems of immunoassays. METHODS In this study, a literature reference range for UFC measured by LC-MS-MS was verified, and UFC values measured by LC-MS-MS and immunoassay were compared. Immunometric UFC measurement was performed by ACCESS CORTISOL assay without preliminary extraction, using Beckman Coulter UniCel DxI 600 highly automated platform. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry UFC measurement was performed by a home-made validated method using cortisol-D4 as internal standard with preliminary deproteinization of urinary samples by centrifugal filter and injection on reverse-phase column. Cortisol was analyzed in positive ion mode with an ESI interface. RESULTS The reference interval from literature (11-70 μg/day) was confirmed by results obtained for healthy study group. Comparison study of the two methods highlighted a constant and proportional systematic error with a general tendency to overestimate results for the in-use method. CONCLUSIONS In conclusion, the direct immunometric method overestimates UFC results with respect to liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry which represents the reference method. The literature reference range 11-70 μg/day was confirmed and can be adopted by our lab that will shift all UFC tests performed in routine to the mass spectrometry-based method, satisfying clinicians' request.

Investigations of Anisotropic Flow Using Multiparticle Azimuthal Correlations in pp, p-Pb, Xe-Xe, and Pb-Pb Collisions at the LHC. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2019; 123:142301. Abstract
Measurements of anisotropic flow coefficients (v_{n}) and their cross-correlations using two- and multiparticle cumulant methods are reported in collisions of pp at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, p-Pb at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV, Xe-Xe at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.44 TeV, and Pb-Pb at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV recorded with the ALICE detector. The multiplicity dependence of v_{n} is studied in a very wide range from 20 to 3000 particles produced in the midrapidity region |η|<0.8 for the transverse momentum range 0.2<p_{T}<3.0 GeV/c. An ordering of the coefficients v_{2}>v_{3}>v_{4} is found in pp and p-Pb collisions, similar to that seen in large collision systems, while a weak v_{2} multiplicity dependence is observed relative to nucleus-nucleus collisions in the same multiplicity range. Using a novel subevent method, v_{2} measured with four-particle cumulants is found to be compatible with that from six-particle cumulants in pp and p-Pb collisions. The magnitude of the correlation between v_{n}^{2} and v_{m}^{2}, evaluated with the symmetric cumulants SC(m,n) is observed to be positive at all multiplicities for v_{2} and v_{4}, while for v_{2} and v_{3} it is negative and changes sign for multiplicities below 100, which may indicate a different v_{n} fluctuation pattern in this multiplicity range. The observed long-range multiparticle azimuthal correlations in high multiplicity pp and p-Pb collisions can neither be described by pythia 8 nor by impact-parameter-Glasma, music, and ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics model calculations, and hence, provide new insights into the understanding of collective effects in small collision systems.

Abstract
The case of a 24-year-old male patient affected by follicular occlusion tetrad (acne conglobata, hidradenitis suppurativa, pilonidal cyst and dissecting cellulitis of the scalp) associated with clinical signs of pachyonychia congenita (PC)-2 (focal palmoplantar keratoderma, plantar pain, onycodystrophy and multiple cysts) is reported. The diagnosis was supported by genetic analysis that showed heterozygous mutation within the exon 1 of KRT17 gene. This case may reflect different expressions of a phenotypic spectrum induced by a common genetic alteration.

Abstract
This Letter presents the first experimental observation of the attractive strong interaction between a proton and a multistrange baryon (hyperon) Ξ^{-}. The result is extracted from two-particle correlations of combined p-Ξ^{-}⊕p[over ¯]-Ξ[over ¯]^{+} pairs measured in p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV at the LHC with ALICE. The measured correlation function is compared with the prediction obtained assuming only an attractive Coulomb interaction and a standard deviation in the range [3.6, 5.3] is found. Since the measured p-Ξ^{-}⊕p[over ¯]-Ξ[over ¯]^{+} correlation is significantly enhanced with respect to the Coulomb prediction, the presence of an additional, strong, attractive interaction is evident. The data are compatible with recent lattice calculations by the HAL-QCD Collaboration, with a standard deviation in the range [1.8, 3.7]. The lattice potential predicts a shallow repulsive Ξ^{-} interaction within pure neutron matter and this implies stiffer equations of state for neutron-rich matter including hyperons. Implications of the strong interaction for the modeling of neutron stars are discussed.

Whole exome sequencing approach to childhood onset familial erythrodermic psoriasis unravels a novel mutation of CARD14 requiring unusual high doses of ustekinumab. Pediatr Rheumatol Online J 2019; 17:38. Abstract
BACKGROUND Autosomal dominant gain of function mutations in caspase recruitment domain family member 14 (CARD14) is a rare condition associated with plaque-type psoriasis, generalized pustular psoriasis, palmoplantar pustular psoriasis and pityriasis rubra pilaris. Recently, a new CARD14 -associated phenotype defined as CAPE (CARD14-associated papulosquamous eruption) with clinical features of both psoriasis and pityriasis rubra pilaris was reported. We describe a family carrying a novel heterozygous mutation in CARD14 gene, with childhood-onset erythrodermic psoriasis requiring an unusual extremely high dose (up to 2 mg/kg every 8 weeks) of ustekinumab to achieve disease remission. CASE PRESENTATION We describe a large family with three pairs of twins presenting a clinical phenotype characterized by childhood-onset erythrodermic psoriasis; in some family members is also reported psoriatic arthritis. The two probands presented poor clinical response to topic and systemic therapy with antihistamine, steroid, retinoids, cyclosporine and etanercept. After exclusion of the most common genes associated to autoinflammatory diseases (IL36RN, IL1RN, MVK, TNFRSF1A, NLRP3, NLRP12, MEFV, NOD2, PSMB8, PSTPIP1, LPIN2) we approached a new gene search by subjecting to Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) analysis five members of the family. A novel heterozygous mutation (c.446 T > G, leading to the missense amino acid substitution p.L149R) in the exon 4 of the CARD14 gene was identified in all affected members. Increasing dosages (up to 2 mg/kg every 8 weeks) of ustekinumab, a human monoclonal antibody targeting interleukin-12 (IL-12) and interleukin-23 (IL-23), allowed the complete control of the clinical manifestations, with an evident reduction of circulating Th17 and Th22 CD4+ T cell subsets. CONCLUSIONS We describe the association of mutations of the CARD14 gene with an erythrodermic psoriasis pedigree, underlying the necessity to investigate CARD14 mutations in childhood-onset psoriasis cases and confirming the presence of CARD14 causative mutations also in erythrodermic psoriasis form, as recently reported. Also in pediatric age, ustekinumab represents a powerful therapeutic option for this rare condition, that is usually refractory to other treatments. In young children, high and frequent dosages allowed a complete control of the clinical manifestations without any severe side effects, with a long-term follow-up.
