Abstract
Rabies causes approximately 20,000 human deaths in India each year. Nearly all of these occur following dog bites. Large-scale, high-coverage dog rabies vaccination campaigns are the cornerstone of rabies elimination strategies in both human and dog populations, although this is particularly challenging to achieve in India as a large proportion of the dog population are free-roaming and unowned. Further, little is known about free-roaming dog ecology in India which makes defining optimum vaccination strategies difficult. In this study, data collected using a mobile phone application during three annual mass vaccination and neutering (surgical sterilisation of both males and females) campaigns of free-roaming dogs in Ranchi, India (during which a total of 43,847 vaccinations, 26,213 neuter surgeries and 28,172 re-sight observations were made) were interrogated, using two novel approaches to estimate the proportion of neutered dogs that were lost from the city (assumed due to mortality or migration) between campaign years. Analysis revealed high losses of neutered dogs each year, ranging from 25.3% (28.2-22.8) to 55.8% (57.0-54.6). We also estimated that the total population declined by 12.58% (9.89-15.03) over the three-year period. This demonstrates that there is a high turnover of free-roaming dogs and that despite neutering a large number of dogs in an annual sterilisation campaign, the decline in population size was modest over a three-year time period. These findings have significant implications for the planning of rabies vaccination campaigns and population management programmes as well as highlighting the need for further research into the demographics of free-roaming, unowned dogs in India.

Abstract
Strange matter is believed to exist in the cores of neutron stars based on simple kinematics. If this is true, then hyperon-nucleon interactions will play a significant part in the neutron star equation of state. Yet, compared to other elastic scattering processes, there is very little data on Λ-N scattering. This experiment utilized the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) detector to study the Λp→Λp elastic scattering cross section in the incident Λ momentum range 0.9-2.0 GeV/c. These are the first data on this reaction since the 1970s. The new cross sections have significantly better accuracy and precision than the existing world data, and the techniques developed here can also be used in future experiments.

Abstract
We present the first measurement of the timelike Compton scattering process, γp→p^{'}γ^{*}(γ^{*}→e^{+}e^{-}), obtained with the CLAS12 detector at Jefferson Lab. The photon beam polarization and the decay lepton angular asymmetries are reported in the range of timelike photon virtualities 2.25<Q^{'2}<9 GeV^{2}, squared momentum transferred 0.1<-t<0.8 GeV^{2}, and average total center-of-mass energy squared s=14.5 GeV^{2}. The photon beam polarization asymmetry, similar to the beam-spin asymmetry in deep virtual Compton scattering, is sensitive to the imaginary part of the Compton form factors and provides a way to test the universality of the generalized parton distributions. The angular asymmetry of the decay leptons accesses the real part of the Compton form factors and thus the D-term in the parametrization of the generalized parton distributions.

Abstract
Efficiently scaling genomic variant search indexes to thousands of samples is computationally challenging due to the presence of multiple coordinate systems to avoid reference biases. We present VariantStore, a system that indexes genomic variants from multiple samples using a variation graph and enables variant queries across any sample-specific coordinate system. We show the scalability of VariantStore by indexing genomic variants from the TCGA project in 4 h and the 1000 Genomes project in 3 h. Querying for variants in a gene takes between 0.002 and 3 seconds using memory only 10% of the size of the full representation.

Abstract
‘Long COVID-19’ can affect different body systems. At present, avascular necrosis (AVN) as a sequalae of ‘long COVID-19’ has yet not been documented. By large-scale use of life-saving corticosteroids in COVID-19 cases, we anticipate that there will be a resurgence of AVN cases. We report a series of three cases in which patients developed AVN of the femoral head after being treated for COVID-19 infection. The mean dose of prednisolone used in these cases was 758 mg (400–1250 mg), which is less than the mean cumulative dose of around 2000 mg steroid, documented in the literature as causative for AVN. Patients were symptomatic and developed early AVN presentation at a mean of 58 days after COVID-19 diagnosis as compared with the literature which shows that it generally takes 6 months to 1 year to develop AVN post steroid exposure.

Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the fractional epidemic mathematical model and dynamics of COVID-19. The Wuhan city of China is considered as the origin of the corona virus. The novel corona virus is continuously spread its range of effectiveness in nearly all corners of the world. Here we analyze that under what parameters and conditions it is possible to slow the speed of spreading of corona virus. We formulate a transmission dynamical model where it is assumed that some portion of the people generates the infections, which is affected by the quarantine and latent time. We study the effect of various parameters of corona virus through the fractional mathematical model. The Laguerre collocation technique is used to deal with the concerned mathematical model numerically. In order to deal with the dynamics of the novel corona virus we collect the experimental data from 15th-21st April, 2020 of Maharashtra state, India. We analyze the effect of various parameters on the numerical solutions by graphical comparison for fractional order as well as integer order. The pictorial presentation of the variation of different parameters used in model are depicted for upper and lower solution both.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to compare the results of solid phase assay and cell-based assay, and explore the near-accurate DSA-MFI-cutoff value detected on solid phase assay above which the cell-based assay would show a positive result. In this retrospective study, 102 prospective renal transplant recipients were tested for the presence of donor-specific antibodies (DSAs) by cell-based assay (T-cell-CDC-AHG-XM and T-cell-IgG-FC-XM) and solid phase assay (class-I-IgG-L-SAB) with their corresponding donor. Among the 40 patients in the group first (L-SAB-DSA-MFI<1000), one case was positive in IgG-T-cell-FC-XM while T-cell-CDC-AHG-XM was negative in all the cases. In the second group having L-SAB-DSA-MFI values between 1000 and 3000, 19 cases were positive and the remaining 11 cases were negative in IgG-T-cell-FC-XM. T-cell-CDC-AHG-XM showed a negative reaction in all 30 cases. In the third group having L-SAB-DSA-MFI values between 3000 and 5000, IgG-T-cell-FC-XM was positive in 18 cases while, two were negative. T-cell-CDC-AHG-XM demonstrated a negative result in 14 cases while reaming six cases demonstrated a positive result. In the fourth group having L-SAB-DSA-MFI values >5000, all 12 cases showed a positive result in both IgG-T-cell FC-XM and T-cell-CDC-AHG-XM. Our results indicated that the L-SAB-DSA-MFI values >2215 were significantly (P < .001) correlated with positive IgG-T-cell-FC-XM while L-SAB-DSA-MFI values >4689 were significantly (P < .001) correlated with positive CDC-XM.

Abstract
We report an experimental study of a Cooper pair splitter based on ballistic graphene multiterminal junctions. In a two transverse junction geometry, namely the superconductor-graphene-superconductor and the normal metal-graphene-normal metal, we observe clear signatures of Cooper pair splitting in the local as well as nonlocal electronic transport measurements. Our experimental data can be very well described by our beam splitter model. These results open up possibilities to design new entangled state detection experiments using ballistic Cooper pair splitters.

Abstract
PurposeThe paper describes how Charles Darwin University (CDU) used a three-pronged approach to better serve its researchers: it developed a single interface for improved accessibility and discoverability of its research outputs, consolidated its corresponding policies and procedures and implemented training programs to support the new portal. This in turn made its suite of research outputs more openly accessible and better discoverable. The intention was to make CDU research compliant with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) policy statement, affirming the need to make Australia's research more visible, thereby enabling better access, better collaboration locally and internationally and researchers more accountable to their community.Design/methodology/approachThis paper uses case study methodology and a qualitative approach.FindingsCDU Library collaborated with the University’s Research Office in undertaking a series of strategies towards reframing access to its research. The partners migrated their research collections into a single, new, integrated interface; developed new policies and consolidated existing ones; and to this end, rolled out a training and educational program for the research community. The intention of the program was to introduce the Pure repository to new researchers and to train all staff to self archive and curate their own research outputs. This new streamlined approach ensured a more comprehensive and timely availability and accessibility of the University's research outputs.Originality/valueA single source of truth was established through the migration of iCDU’s research collections, ensuring data quality was maintained. At the start of this project, there were few institutions in Australia using the Pure system, and even fewer using it as their sole repository for displaying research outputs.

Abstract
Electrospinning is emerging as a versatile technique nanofibers fabrication because due to their unique properties such as large surface area to volume ratio, porosity and maintaining moist wound environment, the nanofibers are able to deliver sustained drug release and oxygen to the wound for rapid healing of diabetic wound. The present work was aimed to prepare and evaluate silk fibroin-curcumin based nanofiber in combination with polycaprolactone (PCL) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) which helped to strengthen the wound healing properties of nanofiber. Silk fibroin is a naturally occurring polymer was selected one polymer for making nanofibrous mat due to its unique properties such as biodegradability, permeability, oxygen supply and maintain moisture content in the wound. SEM results showed diameters of fibers varied in the range between 200 and 350 nm and their tensile strength ranged from 12.41 to 16.80 MP. The nanofibers were causing sustained release of curcumin for many hours. The in-vivo wound healing studies in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice showed rapid wound healing efficacy as compared to conventional formulations. Furthermore, the histopathological studies evidenced its ability to restore the normal skin structure and histological conditions of tissues. The silk fibroin-based nanofiber wound dressing, therefore appears to be an ideal preparation, in combination with curcumin, because it blends the anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory properties of curcumin. Therefore, it was concluded that the silk fibroin-based nanofiber loaded with curcumin has great healing potential in diabetic wound.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Measurement of actual concentration of IgG requires methods like treatment of serum with dithiothreitol (DTT). This study was aimed at comparing of DTT treated ABO titres performed by conventional test tube technique (CTT) and column agglutination technique (CAT) with HA/SPRCA. MATERIALS AND METHODS This was a prospective, observational study conducted from October 2019 to March 2020. All consecutive A, B and O group donors who gave consent for participation were included. All samples were tested by CTT and CAT before and after DTT treatment (pCTT, pCAT) and with HA/SPRCA. RESULTS A total of 300 donors were included; 100 each from A, B and O blood group donors. Group O titres were higher than group A/B titres. Group O titres were highest when performed by pCAT, followed by pCTT and lowest by HA/SPRCA. Group A/B titres were highest when performed by HA/SPRCA, followed by pCAT and pCTT for anti-A and highest when performed by pCAT, followed by HA/SPRCA and lowest by pCTT for anti-B. CONCLUSION Results obtained by pCAT were closer to results obtained by pCTT, whereas those obtained by HA/SPRCA were variable. SPRCA offers the advantage of automation, no inter-observer variation and less time consumption because IgM interference is not observed with SPRCA, thus providing an alternative to pCTT. However, these methods cannot be used interchangeably and to discern the most suitable method, a clinical impact of these results needs to be studied.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Although desensitization is well established, concerns about graft outcome, patient survival and rejection still exist. The present study aims at comparing outcomes of renal transplant recipients across simultaneous ABO and human leukocyte antigen (HLA) incompatibility barriers to those with ABO or HLA incompatibility alone. MATERIALS AND METHODS This was a retrospective study conducted from October 2015 to December 2018. All patients with a clinical diagnosis of chronic kidney disease, who were prospective HLA incompatible (HLAi) and/or ABO incompatible (ABOi) renal transplant recipients were included. A total of 400 cases including 36 ABOi transplants, 154 HLAi transplants, 10 simultaneously ABO and HLA incompatible transplants, and 200 ABO (ABOc) and HLA (HLAc) compatible kidney transplants from living donors were included. RESULTS There were significantly more number of blood transfusions, previous transplants and pregnancies in HLAi transplant recipients relative to the ABOi or the control group. Mean number of therapeutic plasma exchange procedures per patient and mean plasma volume processed per procedure were slightly higher in the ABOi + HLAi category. The incidence of graft dysfunction due to suspected antibody-mediated rejection during first year was highest in the ABOi + HLAi group, followed by ABOc + HLAi and ABOi + HLAc, lowest in the ABOc + HLAc category. Mean time to first episode of graft dysfunction was significantly shorter with incompatible transplants. There were no kidney transplant recipient deaths in the study. CONCLUSION Patient outcome and graft outcomes observed with incompatible transplants were not worse than those observed with compatible transplants.

Abstract
Automating the classification of camera-obtained microscopic images of White Blood Cells (WBCs) and related cell subtypes has assumed importance since it aids the laborious manual process of review and diagnosis. Several State-Of-The-Art (SOTA) methods developed using Deep Convolutional Neural Networks suffer from the problem of domain shift - severe performance degradation when they are tested on data (target) obtained in a setting different from that of the training (source). The change in the target data might be caused by factors such as differences in camera/microscope types, lenses, lighting-conditions etc. This problem can potentially be solved using Unsupervised Domain Adaptation (UDA) techniques albeit standard algorithms presuppose the existence of a sufficient amount of unlabelled target data which is not always the case with medical images. In this paper, we propose a method for UDA that is devoid of the need for target data. Given a test image from the target data, we obtain its 'closest-clone' from the source data that is used as a proxy in the classifier. We prove the existence of such a clone given that infinite number of data points can be sampled from the source distribution. We propose a method in which a latent-variable generative model based on variational inference is used to simultaneously sample and find the 'closest-clone' from the source distribution through an optimization procedure in the latent space. We demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method over several SOTA UDA methods for WBC classification on datasets captured using different imaging modalities under multiple settings.

Abstract
Storage of dithiothreitol (DTT)-treated red blood cells (RBCs) leads to hemolysis. The aim of this study was to compare 0.1 M DTT with 0.2 M DTT treatment of RBCs and to share our experience of providing components to seven patients on daratumumab (DARA). This prospective, observational study included patients who required RBC transfusion within 6 months of DARA administration. All patients underwent a baseline serologic evaluation followed by a repeat evaluation after DARA administration. In addition, use of 0.1 M DTT was compared with 0.2 M DTT in terms of concordance of results, hemolysis with storage of treated RBCs, and ease of use. A total of 22 RBC requisitions were received for seven patients. Antibody screen was positive for one patient (anti-C) at baseline; it was panreactive for all patients after DARA. Concordance of results between the two concentrations was 98.5 percent. Laboratory personnel found results obtained with use of 0.1 M DTT-treated RBCs easy to interpret. Supernatant hemoglobin was found to be significantly greater for 0.2 M DTT-treated RBCs at the sixth day of storage. In conclusion, component administration to patients on DARA can be done without delay if adequate policies and procedures are in place. Use of 0.1 M DTT-pretreated RBCs can be used to avoid delay in transfusion and reduce the burden on the laboratory of weekly preparation of 0.2 M DTT-treated RBCs.

Abstract
Estimation of residual leukocytes in blood components after leukodepletion is crucial for assessment of quality. Flow cytometry (FC) and Nageotte hemocytometer are the most widely accepted methods for counting residual white blood cells (rWBCs) in leucocyte-depleted (LD) blood components. The objective of this study was to compare use of Nageotte counting chamber and FC for quality control of leukodepleted red cell units. A prospective, observational study was conducted in the department of Transfusion Medicine. A total of 80 whole blood donations from healthy donors were subjected to testing by FC and Nageotte hemocytometer for estimation of rWBC in duplicate. Additionally, ten personnel attempted a survey for ease of use of FC. Number of rWBC detected by flow cytometer were between 1 WBC/μL and 28 WBCs/μL whereas that detected by Nageotte's chamber were between 0 WBC/μL (lowest) and 5 WBCs/μL. Coefficient of variation was found to be 87.36% by Nageotte hemocytometer method and 43.26% by FC. Linear regression analysis did not show any correlation (R-squared = 0.01, p = 0.13) between the two methods which signifies that the two methods cannot be used interchangeably. Pearson's correlation coefficient showed a weak relation between results obtained by the two methods. Inter-observer variation was found to be significant with use of Nageotte hemocytometry. Survey for ease of use of FC indicated acceptability of FC with favorable scores. Flow cytometric technique provides a reproducible and objective tool for counting rWBC in leukodepleted blood components compared with the Nageotte hemocytometer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to analyse blood requisition forms sent by clinicians in a tertiary care hospital to the transfusion service to ascertain their completeness and correctness. A secondary objective was to study the effect of continuing medical education (CME) in a hospital setting on clinician's behaviour regarding the importance of details that ought to be mentioned on blood requisition forms. BACKGROUND Transfusion audits are useful tools in the evaluation and education of those requesting blood components. METHODS/MATERIALS This was a prospective, observational study conducted in the department of Transfusion Medicine at a tertiary-level healthcare centre from June 2019 to December 2019. The study was divided into two phases: pre-CME (P1) and post-CME (P2). In both phases, an audit for assessing completeness and correctness of blood requisition forms, which were divided into four sections, was performed. A scoring system was devised to compare both phases. RESULTS In the P1 phase, 45.77% of the blood requisition form entries were complete and correct; 23.45% of incomplete entries were generated by emergency and trauma. In the P2 phase, 76.75% of the blood requisition form entries were complete and correct; 35.09% of the incomplete entries were generated by obstetrics and gynaecology. Complete and correct entries increased from 45.7% (P1) to 76.75% (P2). Scores of P1 were found to be lower than scores of P2 for all four sections. Cumulative mean score for P1 (20687) was found to be significantly lower than the mean score for P2 (30870). CONCLUSION Audit and CME regarding different aspects of transfusion medicine practices play a major role in the improvement of transfusion practices in hospitals.
