Effect of polar/non-polar facets on the transformation of nanoscale ZnO in simulated sweat and potential impacts on the antibacterial activity. Abstract
The use of nanoscale zinc oxide (n-ZnO) in the personal care products would cause interactions between n-ZnO and human sweat. Facet engineering has been applied to n-ZnO to improve its activity. Nevertheless, it is not clear whether the exposed facet would affect transformation of n-ZnO in sweat. Herein, we prepared ZnO nanoneedles with the dominant (1010) non-polar facet (i.e., ZnO-1010) and ZnO nanoflakes with the dominant (0001) polar facet (i.e., ZnO-0001), respectively. We found that n-ZnO can undergo chemical transformation in the simulated sweat within 168 h or 24 h, transforming into amorphous materials and Zn3(PO4)20.4 H2O and/or Na(ZnPO4)·H2O. Given the rate constant (e.g., 0.093 h-1 for ZnO-0001 vs. 0.033 h-1 for ZnO-1010) of ZnO depletion and components of the precipitate from the simulated sweat, nevertheless, the transformation is highly dependent on the dominant exposed facet of n-ZnO. The ZnO-0001 relative to ZnO-1010 would likely undergo chemical transformation, demonstrating that the (0001) polar facet compared to (1010) non-polar facet had a superior activity to the dihydrogen phosphate anions in the simulated sweat, which is supported by density functional theory calculations. The chemical transformation can affect the antibacterial activity of n-ZnO to E. coli, moderating the toxicity due to a great decrease in the concentration of the dissolved zinc. In total, our findings provided insights into the facet-dependent transformation for n-ZnO in the simulated sweat, improving our understanding of potential risk of n-ZnO.

Abstract
The first study of the angular distribution of μ^{+}μ^{-} pairs produced in the forward rapidity region via the Drell-Yan reaction pp→γ^{*}/Z+X→ℓ^{+}ℓ^{-}+X is presented, using data collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.1 fb^{-1}. The coefficients of the five leading terms in the angular distribution are determined as a function of the dimuon transverse momentum and rapidity. The results are compared to various theoretical predictions of the Z-boson production mechanism and can also be used to probe transverse-momentum-dependent parton distributions within the proton.

A phase III randomized, controlled trial of nedaplatin versus cisplatin concurrent chemoradiotherapy in patients with cervical cancer. ESMO Open 2022; 7:100565. Abstract
BACKGROUND We evaluated the non-inferiority of nedaplatin-based and cisplatin-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy in cervical cancer patients. DESIGN Patients aged 28-82 years with pathologically diagnosed cervical cancer (stage IB-IVA) were randomly chosen for the study. Patients in both the cisplatin and nedaplatin groups received radiotherapy and weekly intravenous nedaplatin 30 mg/m2 or cisplatin 40 mg/m2 concurrently. RESULTS One hundred and sixty patients who received treatment between 10 May 2018 and 31 August 2020 were included. The 3-year overall survival in the nedaplatin group (median 30.5 months) was not significantly different from that in the cisplatin group (28.5 months; hazard ratio 0.131, 95% confidence interval 0.016-1.068; P = 0.058). No significant differences in hematological toxicity were observed between the two groups. Vomiting (40 versus 61), nausea (44 versus 67), and anorexia (52 versus 71) were more common in the cisplatin group whereas effects on liver function, including total bilirubin (7 versus 3), alanine aminotransferase (7 versus 2), and aspartate aminotransferase (6 versus 2), were more common in the nedaplatin group. Four patients in the cisplatin group had grade I creatinine elevation, whereas none in the nedaplatin group had abnormal creatinine levels. Two patients in the nedaplatin group discontinued concurrent chemotherapy because of infusion, and one patient in the cisplatin group discontinued treatment because of infusion-induced dizziness. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that nedaplatin has a milder gastrointestinal reaction but a more significant effect on liver function than cisplatin. In patients with cervical cancer, nedaplatin-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy could serve as an alternative treatment to cisplatin.

Abstract
Photo-induced holes (h+) oxidation is an efficient approach for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA; C7F15COOH) removal. To maintain a high amount of h+ on the surface of photocatalysts participating in the PFOA photodegradation could be a critical issue. Herein, a highly efficient spherical BiOBr-modified nano-TiO2 (P25) was synthesised and used for PFOA photodegradation through direct oxidation with h+. A high number of h+ could be generated and remain on the surface of P25/BiOBr due to the appropriate position of the conduction band (CB) and valence band (VB) levels between P25 and BiOBr. Meanwhile, PFOA molecules were coordinated to the P25/BiOBr's surface via unidentate binding, being directly activated and oxidised by h+, resulting in a decomposition yield of 99.5% (100 mg/L) under simulated solar light irradiation within 100 min, at the initial pH condition (3.5). A stepwise photodegradation pathway was proposed due to the significant intermediates detected as the short-chain perfluorinated carboxylic acids (C2-C7). Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, scavenging and trapping analysis indicated that the direct oxidation on h+ followed PFOA degradation. In a real aqueous environment of Tangxun lake (adjusted pH 3.5), stable common anions and natural organic matter (NOM) would restrain the PFOA photodegradation. However, adding 10 mg/L of NO3- or HA could reduce the inhibition effect of PFOA photodegradation. These findings gave an alternative strategy to drive an h+ directly oxidation to treat PFOA contaminated water bodies.

Abstract
Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) involves complex immunomodulatory interactions between pathogens, biomaterials, and hosts, and correlates with alterations in the ratio of immune cells as well as in the concentration of immune checkpoint molecules.Prosthesis, biofilm, microorganisms, and host constitute a special and complex immune microenvironment.Fully studying the characteristics of immune microenvironment and potential targets of immunotherapy in orthopedic implant-associated infections are expected to provide a new direction for clinical treatment of PJI. An overview of the literature related to PJI and immune regulation at domestic and international sites was conducted to summarize and analyze the characteristics of the immune microenvironment and the potential value of related immunotherapy, aiming to provide new insights for the targeted treatment of PJI.

Abstract
Quantum chromodynamics, the theory of the strong force, describes interactions of coloured quarks and gluons and the formation of hadronic matter. Conventional hadronic matter consists of baryons and mesons made of three quarks and quark-antiquark pairs, respectively. Particles with an alternative quark content are known as exotic states. Here a study is reported of an exotic narrow state in the D0D0π+ mass spectrum just below the D*+D0 mass threshold produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The state is consistent with the ground isoscalar [Formula: see text] tetraquark with a quark content of [Formula: see text] and spin-parity quantum numbers JP = 1+. Study of the DD mass spectra disfavours interpretation of the resonance as the isovector state. The decay structure via intermediate off-shell D*+ mesons is consistent with the observed D0π+ mass distribution. To analyse the mass of the resonance and its coupling to the D*D system, a dedicated model is developed under the assumption of an isoscalar axial-vector [Formula: see text] state decaying to the D*D channel. Using this model, resonance parameters including the pole position, scattering length, effective range and compositeness are determined to reveal important information about the nature of the [Formula: see text] state. In addition, an unexpected dependence of the production rate on track multiplicity is observed.

Fu J, Wu W. An advanced aqueous method of recovering pumpkin seed kernel oils and de-oiled meal: Optimization and comparison with other methods. GRASAS Y ACEITES 2022. Abstract
The optimal process conditions of the advanced aqueous method for recovering oil and de-oiled meal from pumpkin seed kernels were: baking the kernels at 110 °C for 1 min, grinding them to pass through a sieve of 150 μm pore size, adding 1.60 ml brine to 10.00 g ground kernels, stirring for 30 min at 30 °C, centrifuging at 4000 r/min for 30 min and cold-pressing the residue from centrifugation. This method recovered > 94% oil. Its oil recovery rate was comparable to that of solvent extraction and higher than that of enzyme-assisted aqueous method or hot-pressing. It recovered edible oil with higher quality and level of coenzyme Q10, tocopherols, carotenoids, total phytosterols and squalene as compared to solvent extraction or hot-pressing and requirements of China’s national standard. It is superior to enzyme-assisted aqueous method or hot-pressing for recovering de-oiled meal which is suitable for making texturized protein.

Deng H, Khan MA, Liu X, Fu J, Mei Z. Identification of SCAR markers for genetic authentication of Dendrobium nobile Lindl. BRAZ J BIOL 2022; 82:e260394. [PMID: 35674573 DOI: 10.1590/1519-6984.260394] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 01/26/2022] [Accepted: 05/16/2022] [Indexed: 11/21/2022] Open
Abstract
Dendrobium nobile Lindl. is an orcid plant with important medicinal values. This is a colourful houseplant, and also a popular herb in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The variants of this plant from different geographic regions might be high, and in this study, we aimed to develop specific sequence characterized amplified region (SCAR) markers for the identification of specific variant of this plant. Different cultivars of D. nobile were collected from nine different places of China, and one cultivar from Myanmar. DNA materials were extracted from the plant samples, random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) were developed, cloned and sequenced for the development of SCAR markers. We have developed four SCAR markers, which are specific to the cultivar from Luzhou China, and clearly distinguishable (genetically) from other cultivars. These SCAR markers are deposited in GenBank (accession number MZ417502, MZ484089, MZ417504 and MZ417505). Four SCAR markers for D. nobile are effective molecular technique to genetically identify the different cultivars or species, and this method is applicable for genetic characterization and identification of other plant species too.

Abstract
The first full angular analysis and an updated measurement of the decay-rate CP asymmetry of the D^{0}→π^{+}π^{-}μ^{+}μ^{-} and D^{0}→K^{+}K^{-}μ^{+}μ^{-} decays are reported. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb^{-1}. The full set of CP -averaged angular observables and their CP asymmetries are measured as a function of the dimuon invariant mass. The results are consistent with expectations from the standard model and with CP symmetry.

Abstract
Tests of lepton universality in B^{0}→K_{S}^{0}ℓ^{+}ℓ^{-} and B^{+}→K^{*+}ℓ^{+}ℓ^{-} decays where ℓ is either an electron or a muon are presented. The differential branching fractions of B^{0}→K_{S}^{0}e^{+}e^{-} and B^{+}→K^{*+}e^{+}e^{-} decays are measured in intervals of the dilepton invariant mass squared. The measurements are performed using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb^{-1} . The results are consistent with the standard model and previous tests of lepton universality in related decay modes. The first observation of B^{0}→K_{S}^{0}e^{+}e^{-} and B^{+}→K^{*+}e^{+}e^{-} decays is reported.

Observation of the Decay Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ}. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2022; 128:191803. [PMID: 35622037 DOI: 10.1103/physrevlett.128.191803] [Citation(s) in RCA: 1] [Impact Index Per Article: 0.5] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 01/11/2022] [Accepted: 03/29/2022] [Indexed: 06/15/2023]
Abstract
The first observation of the semileptonic b-baryon decay Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ}, with a significance of 6.1σ, is reported using a data sample corresponding to 3 fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity, collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV at the LHC. The τ^{-} lepton is reconstructed in the hadronic decay to three charged pions. The ratio K=B(Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ})/B(Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{-}) is measured to be 2.46±0.27±0.40, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The branching fraction B(Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ})=(1.50±0.16±0.25±0.23)% is obtained, where the third uncertainty is from the external branching fraction of the normalization channel Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}π^{-}π^{+}π^{-}. The ratio of semileptonic branching fractions R(Λ_{c}^{+})≡B(Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ})/B(Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}μ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{μ}) is derived to be 0.242±0.026±0.040±0.059, where the external branching fraction uncertainty from the channel Λ_{b}^{0}→Λ_{c}^{+}μ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{μ} contributes to the last term. This result is in agreement with the standard model prediction.

Observation of Two New Excited Ξ_{b}^{0} States Decaying to Λ_{b}^{0}K^{-}π^{+}. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2022; 128:162001. Abstract
Two narrow resonant states are observed in the Λ_{b}^{0}K^{-}π^{+} mass spectrum using a data sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb^{-1}. The minimal quark content of the Λ_{b}^{0}K^{-}π^{+} system indicates that these are excited Ξ_{b}^{0} baryons. The masses of the Ξ_{b}(6327)^{0} and Ξ_{b}(6333)^{0} states are m[Ξ_{b}(6327)^{0}]=6327.28_{-0.21}^{+0.23}±0.12±0.24 and m[Ξ_{b}(6333)^{0}]=6332.69_{-0.18}^{+0.17}±0.03±0.22 MeV, respectively, with a mass splitting of Δm=5.41_{-0.27}^{+0.26}±0.12 MeV, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the Λ_{b}^{0} mass measurement. The measured natural widths of these states are consistent with zero, with upper limits of Γ[Ξ_{b}(6327)^{0}]<2.20(2.56) and Γ[Ξ_{b}(6333)^{0}]<1.60(1.92) MeV at a 90% (95%) credibility level. The significance of the two-peak hypothesis is larger than nine (five) Gaussian standard deviations compared to the no-peak (one-peak) hypothesis. The masses, widths, and resonant structure of the new states are in good agreement with the expectations for a doublet of 1D Ξ_{b}^{0} resonances.

Abstract
The gut microbiome is associated with diverse diseases1-3, but a universal signature of a healthy or unhealthy microbiome has not been identified, and there is a need to understand how genetics, exposome, lifestyle and diet shape the microbiome in health and disease. Here we profiled bacterial composition, function, antibiotic resistance and virulence factors in the gut microbiomes of 8,208 Dutch individuals from a three-generational cohort comprising 2,756 families. We correlated these to 241 host and environmental factors, including physical and mental health, use of medication, diet, socioeconomic factors and childhood and current exposome. We identify that the microbiome is shaped primarily by the environment and cohabitation. Only around 6.6% of taxa are heritable, whereas the variance of around 48.6% of taxa is significantly explained by cohabitation. By identifying 2,856 associations between the microbiome and health, we find that seemingly unrelated diseases share a common microbiome signature that is independent of comorbidities. Furthermore, we identify 7,519 associations between microbiome features and diet, socioeconomics and early life and current exposome, with numerous early-life and current factors being significantly associated with microbiome function and composition. Overall, this study provides a comprehensive overview of gut microbiome and the underlying impact of heritability and exposures that will facilitate future development of microbiome-targeted therapies.

Abstract
The production of prompt charged particles in proton-lead collisions and in proton-proton collisions at the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy sqrt[s_{NN}]=5 TeV is studied at LHCb as a function of pseudorapidity (η) and transverse momentum (p_{T}) with respect to the proton beam direction. The nuclear modification factor for charged particles is determined as a function of η between -4.8<η<-2.5 (backward region) and 2.0<η<4.8 (forward region), and p_{T} between 0.2<p_{T}<8.0 GeV/c. The results show a suppression of charged particle production in proton-lead collisions relative to proton-proton collisions in the forward region and an enhancement in the backward region for p_{T} larger than 1.5 GeV/c. This measurement constrains nuclear PDFs and saturation models at previously unexplored values of the parton momentum fraction down to 10^{-6}.

Abstract
Molecular docking is a widely used method to predict the binding modes of small-molecule ligands to the target binding site. However, it remains a challenge to identify the correct binding conformation and the corresponding binding affinity for a series of structurally similar ligands, especially those with weak binding. An understanding of the various relative attributes of popular docking programs is required to ensure a successful docking outcome. In this study, we systematically compared the performance of three popular docking programs, Autodock, Autodock Vina, and Surflex-Dock for a series of structurally similar weekly binding flavonoids (22) binding to the estrogen receptor alpha (ERα). For these flavonoids-ERα interactions, Surflex-Dock showed higher accuracy than Autodock and Autodock Vina. The hydrogen bond overweighting by Autodock and Autodock Vina led to incorrect binding results, while Surflex-Dock effectively balanced both hydrogen bond and hydrophobic interactions. Moreover, the selection of initial receptor structure is critical as it influences the docking conformations of flavonoids-ERα complexes. The flexible docking method failed to further improve the docking accuracy of the semi-flexible docking method for such chemicals. In addition, binding interaction analysis revealed that 8 residues, including Ala350, Glu353, Leu387, Arg394, Phe404, Gly521, His524, and Leu525, are the key residues in ERα-flavonoids complexes. This work provides reference for assessing molecular interactions between ERα and flavonoid-like chemicals and provides instructive information for other environmental chemicals.

Abstract
Acute acquired concomitant esotropia (AACE) is a special type of esotropia that occurs suddenly and is accompanied by diplopia. In recent years, the number of patients with this eye disease has increased significantly. With differences in age and refractive status, children and adults have their own characteristics in terms of AACE classification, refractive status, eye position, and binocular visual function. However, the pathogenesis of AACE is still unclear. This article explores the pathogenesis and risk factors of AACE, including refractive error, convergence spasm, extraocular muscle, and visual cortex, that may be involved. The authors recommend that AACE, which is not related to intracranial and systemic diseases, should be classified according to the dominant mechanism of the disease.

Abstract
Dentin is a major mineralized component of teeth. Odontoblasts are responsible for synthesis and secretion of dentin matrix. Previously, it has been demonstrated in a cell culture system that the E3 ubiquitin ligase, murine double minute 2 (Mdm2), promotes odontoblast-like differentiation of mouse dental papilla cells (mDPCs) by ubiquitinating p53 and the odontoblast-specific substrate Dlx3. However, whether Mdm2 plays an essential role in vivo in odontoblast differentiation and dentin formation remains unknown. In this study, we investigated the in vivo functions of Mdm2 using Dmp1-Cre;Mdm2 flox/flox mice combined with multiple histological and molecular biological methods. The results showed that Mdm2 deletion in the odontoblast layer led to defects in odontoblast differentiation and dentin formation. Unexpectedly, specific inhibition of the Mdm2-p53 axis in wild-type mice by injection of a small-molecule inhibitor Nutlin-3a indicated that the role of Mdm2 in dentinogenesis was p53 independent, which was inconsistent with the previous in vitro study. In situ proximity ligation assay (PLA) showed that Mdm2 interacted with and ubiquitinated Dlx3 in the odontoblast nucleus of mouse molars. Dlx3 promoted the translocation of Mdm2 to the nucleus, and in turn, the nuclear Mdm2 mediated ubiquitination of Dlx3 and promoted the odontoblast-like differentiation of mDPCs. Dlx3 interacted with Mdm2 through its C-terminal domain. Deletion of the C-terminal domain of Dlx3 reversed the enhanced odontoblast-like differentiation and the activation of Dspp promoter mediated by overexpression of wild-type or nuclear Mdm2. Our findings suggest that nuclear Mdm2 mediates ubiquitination of the transcription factor Dlx3, which is essential for Dlx3 transcriptional activity on Dspp as well as subsequent odontoblast differentiation and dentin formation.
