Abstract
This Letter reports a measurement of the cross section for producing pairs of central prompt isolated photons in proton-antiproton collisions at a total energy sqrt[s] = 1.96 TeV using data corresponding to 9.5 fb(-1) integrated luminosity collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The measured differential cross section is compared to three calculations derived from the theory of strong interactions. These include a prediction based on a leading order matrix element calculation merged with a parton shower model, a next-to-leading order calculation, and a next-to-next-to-leading order calculation. The first and last calculations reproduce most aspects of the data, thus showing the importance of higher-order contributions for understanding the theory of strong interaction and improving measurements of the Higgs boson and searches for new phenomena in diphoton final states.

Abstract
The first observation of the production of a W boson with a single charm quark (c) jet in pp[over ¯] collisions at √s=1.96 TeV is reported. The analysis uses data corresponding to 4.3 fb(-1), recorded with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. Charm quark candidates are selected through the identification of an electron or muon from charm-hadron semileptonic decay within a hadronic jet, and a Wc signal is observed with a significance of 5.7 standard deviations. The production cross section σ(Wc)(p(Tc)>20 GeV/c,|η(c)|<1.5)×B(W→ℓν) is measured to be 13.6(-3.1)(+3.4) pb and is in agreement with theoretical expectations. From this result the magnitude of the quark-mixing matrix element V(cs) is derived, |V(cs)|=1.08±0.16 along with a lower limit of |V(cs)|>0.71 at the 95% confidence level, assuming that the Wc production through c to s quark coupling is dominant.

Abstract
Sensitive skin is a relatively common dermatologic condition and no optimal treatments have been established so far. Low-level laser/light therapy (LLLT) has been used for its biostimulative effect in various clinical settings. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether low-level laser/light therapy can improve sensitive skin clinically and to evaluate the effects of LLLT on skin in vitro. Twenty-eight patients complaining of sensitive skin were treated with low-level polarized light, and clinical results were evaluated using subjective and objective method. To investigate possible working mechanism of LLLT on skin, cultured human keratinocytes pretreated with nontoxic concentration of sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) were used. Cytokines released from irritated keratinocytes after LLLT were analyzed. All patients showed subjective and objective improvement after treatment. No adverse effects were reported. The average number of LLLT sessions required to achieve clinical improvement was 9.9, and cumulative dose of LLLT was 71.3 J/cm(2) on the average. Erythema index decreased significantly after LLLT treatment (p = 0.017). In vitro assay showed that LLLT significantly reduced the release of VEGF from SLS-pretreated keratinocytes (p = 0.021). Our results suggest that LLLT could be a useful and safe treatment modality for sensitive skin, and modification of inflammatory cytokines released from irritated keratinocytes may be considered as one of plausible mechanisms in sensitive skin treated with LLLT.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This prospective, observational study aimed to identify children likely to require sedation preoperatively by measuring anxiety levels using the modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale (mYPAS). Other possible predictive factors for preoperative sedation were also investigated. METHODS A total of 455 patients aged 2-12 years scheduled for surgery requiring general anaesthesia were enrolled in the study. Patients' anxiety levels were measured using the mYPAS in a preoperative holding area just before patients were separated from their parents or guardians and entered the operating theatre. Anaesthetists blindedto the mYPAS assessments judged whether the child could be separated and enter the operating theatre without a sedative. The ability of the mYPAS to predict the need for preoperative sedation was analysed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. RESULTS The optimum mYPAS cut-off for requiring sedatives was 41.7 according to ROC curve analysis. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age, mYPAS>40 and waiting time were independent predictors of the requirement for sedative administration. CONCLUSIONS High anxiety levels, young age and long waits contributed to the need for preoperative sedation in children.

Abstract
We report on design, manufacture, and testing of a Slewing Mirror Telescope (SMT), the first of its kind and a part of Ultra-Fast Flash Observatory-pathfinder (UFFO-p) for space-based prompt measurement of early UV/optical light curves from Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs). Using a fast slewing mirror of 150 mm diameter mounted on a 2 axis gimbal stage, SMT can deliver the images of GRB optical counterparts to the intensified CCD detector within 1.5~1.8 s over ± 35 degrees in the slewing field of view. Its Ritchey-Chrétien telescope of 100 mm diameter provides a 17 × 17 arcmin² instantaneous field of view. Technical details of design, construction, the laboratory performance tests in space environments for this unique SMT are described in conjunction with the plan for in-orbit operation onboard the Lomonosov satellite in 2013.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE A number of remodeling or protective techniques available to treat wide-neck intracranial aneurysms are increasingly being used, provided that the shape/type of aneurysm, vessel diameter, and inherent course of the vessel are conducive to their use. The purpose of this study was to describe a novel method using coil protection for treatment of wide-neck aneurysms. MATERIALS AND METHODS This technique involves sequential maneuvers to the aneurysm and affected branch artery. A microcatheter is first introduced into the aneurysmal sac, and another microcatheter is introduced into the entrance of the branch artery, followed by partial deployment of a small helical coil into the branch artery. A framing coil is then placed within the aneurysmal sac, under the protection of the helical coil. After completion of the first coil insertion, the helical coil should be retrieved to confirm the stability of the framing coil. The helical coil can also serve as a filler. RESULTS This technique was successfully applied to 12 intracranial saccular aneurysms of the MCA bifurcation (5 patients); anterior communicating artery (3 patients); and A1 and M1 segments, distal ACA, and basilar tip (1 patient each). Selective endovascular treatment was successfully performed and resulted in excellent outcomes in all patients. There were no complications directly related to coil protection. CONCLUSIONS Our small study suggests that coil protection can be a safe alternative to traditional remodeling or protective techniques when those techniques have failed or are not possible due to vascular geometry. It is particularly suited for the treatment of wide-neck aneurysms arising from small and acutely angulated branching vessels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Symptomatic cerebral hyperperfusion (SCH) is a potential complication after superficial temporal artery-middle cerebral artery (STA-MCA) anastomosis in patients with moyamoya disease. This retrospective study was designed to determine factors associated with SCH after STA-MCA anastomosis in adult moyamoya patients. METHODS Eighty-two adult moyamoya patients undergoing STA-MCA anastomosis between July 2005 and December 2010 were enrolled. Laboratory data such as haemoglobin and white blood cell (WBC) count, preoperative (patient characteristic data, initial clinical manifestation, the angiographic staging), intraoperative (surgical time, the operative side, anaesthetic technique, fluid balance, arterial pressure, arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide, the lowest haematocrit, and intraoperative transfusion), and postoperative (arterial pressure, Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score) data were collected and used as predictable factors for postoperative SCH, in which a focal intense increase in cerebral blood flow at the anastomosis site was shown in postoperative single-photon emission computed tomography. RESULTS Among 82 patients with 99 surgeries, 39 patients (47 sides, 47%) suffered from transient neurological deterioration due to SCH from 1 to 9 days after operation (median: 2 days), which was sustained for 1-14 days (median: 7 days). The operation on the dominant hemisphere [odds ratio (OR), 5.09; 95% confidence interval (CI), 2.07-12.54, P<0.001] was an independent risk factor for SCH. Also, WBC count on postoperative day 1 was significantly correlated with SCH (OR 1.19; 95%CI, 1.02-1.38, P=0.029). CONCLUSIONS The operation on the dominant hemisphere and increased postoperative WBC count may be associated with SCH after STA-MCA anastomosis in adult-onset moyamoya patients.

Abstract P3-12-05: Clinical features and outcomes of leptomeningeal metastasis in patients with breast cancer: a single center experience. Cancer Res 2012. Abstract
Abstract
Background: Leptomeningeal metastasis (LM) is one of the major problems in managing metastatic breast cancer because of LM typically carries a devastating prognosis and often represents a terminal event. We analyzed the clinical features and outcomes of LM in patients with breast cancer.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who were diagnosed with LM from breast cancer between 2002 and 2012 at Asan Medical Center.
Results: Of the 95 LM patients by cytologically proven (n = 81) or radiologically diagnosed (n = 14), 57 (60%) had an ECOG performance status (PS) ≥ 3, and the median age was 47 years (range, 26–72 years). The patients were diagnosed with LM after a median of 10.3 months (95% CI, 5.5–15.0 months) from the time of diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer. LM was present in 2 patients at the time of initial diagnosis. Twenty-three patients (24.2%) had isolated CNS metastasis, and 6 (6.3%) had only LM without any detectable metastasis sites. At the time of diagnosis of LM, 46 patients (48.4%) presented with coincidental failure of systemic disease control. Seventy-eight patients (82.1%) underwent intrathecal chemotherapy (methotrexate; n=78, thiotepa; n=11), resulting in one-third of cytologic negative conversion (n = 26), and 41 (43.2%) received systemic chemotherapy. The overall median survival time was 3.3 months (95% CI, 2.5–4.2 months) and 7.8% of the patients survived for more than 1 year. Overall survival tended to be better in patients who achieved cytologic negative conversion to intrathecal chemotherapy than those did not (median 4.5 months versus 3.2 months, P = 0.241). Overall survival was not different according to subtypes; hormone receptor (+), HER2 (+), and triple negative (median 3.6 months, 3.3 months, and 3.2 months, P = 0.937). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that ECOG PS ≥ 3 (HR = 2.09, 95% CI 1.21–3.58, P = 0.007), coincidental failure of systemic disease control at LM (HR = 3.01, 95% CI 1.76–5.15, P < 0.001), and systemic chemotherapy after LM (HR = 0.40, 95% CI 0.24–0.68, P = 0.001) were independent factors associated with survival.
Conclusions: The prognosis for patients with LM from breast cancer was still poor. Systemic chemotherapy in addition to intrathecal chemotherapy might confer a survival benefit, even after the detection of LM.

Abstract
We present the first direct measurement of the top-quark mass using tt events decaying in the hadronic τ+jets decay channel. Using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.2 fb(-1) collected by the CDF II detector in pp collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron, we measure the tt cross section, σ(tt), and the top-quark mass, M(top). We extract M(top) from a likelihood based on per-event probabilities calculated with leading-order signal and background matrix elements. We measure σ(tt) = 8.8 ± 3.3(stat) ± 2.2(syst) pb and M(top) = 172.7 ± 9.3(stat) ± 3.7(syst) GeV/c(2).

Search for the standard model Higgs Boson produced in association with top quarks using the full CDF data set. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2012; 109:181802. Abstract
A search is presented for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with top quarks using the full Run II proton-antiproton collision data set, corresponding to 9.45 fb(-1), collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. No significant excess over the expected background is observed, and 95% credibility-level upper bounds are placed on the cross section σ(ttH → lepton + missing transverse energy+jets). For a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV/c(2), we expect to set a limit of 12.6 and observe a limit of 20.5 times the standard model rate. This represents the most sensitive search for a standard model Higgs boson in this channel to date.

Abstract
We report a measurement of the bottom-strange meson mixing phase β(s) using the time evolution of B(s)(0)→J/ψ(→μ(+)μ(-))φ(→K(+)K(-)) decays in which the quark-flavor content of the bottom-strange meson is identified at production. This measurement uses the full data set of proton-antiproton collisions at √s=1.96 TeV collected by the Collider Detector experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron, corresponding to 9.6 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. We report confidence regions in the two-dimensional space of β(s) and the B(s)(0) decay-width difference ΔΓ(s) and measure β(s)∈[-π/2,-1.51]∪[-0.06,0.30]∪[1.26,π/2] at the 68% confidence level, in agreement with the standard model expectation. Assuming the standard model value of β(s), we also determine ΔΓ(s)=0.068±0.026(stat)±0.009(syst) ps(-1) and the mean B(s)(0) lifetime τ(s)=1.528±0.019(stat)±0.009(syst) ps, which are consistent and competitive with determinations by other experiments.

Abstract
We present a precision measurement of the top-quark mass using the full sample of Tevatron √s = 1.96 TeV proton-antiproton collisions collected by the CDF II detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb(-1). Using a sample of tt¯ candidate events decaying into the lepton+jets channel, we obtain distributions of the top-quark masses and the invariant mass of two jets from the W boson decays from data. We then compare these distributions to templates derived from signal and background samples to extract the top-quark mass and the energy scale of the calorimeter jets with in situ calibration. The likelihood fit of the templates from signal and background events to the data yields the single most-precise measurement of the top-quark mass, M(top)=172.85±0.71(stat)±0.85(syst) GeV/c(2).

Abstract
Picosecond time-resolved resonance Raman spectroscopy is used to probe the structural changes of rhodopsin's retinal chromophore as the cis-to-trans isomerization reaction occurs that initiates vision. Room-temperature resonance Raman spectra of rhodopsin's photoproduct with time delays from -0.7 to 20.8 ps are measured using 2.2 ps, 480 nm pump and 1.5 ps, 600 nm probe pulses. Hydrogen-out-of-plane (HOOP) modes at 852, 871, and 919 cm(-1), fingerprint peaks at 1272, 1236, 1211, and 1166 cm(-1), and a broad red-shifted ethylenic band at 1530 cm(-1) are present at the earliest positive pump-probe time delay of 0.8 ps, indicating that the chromophore is already in a strained, all-trans configuration. Kinetic analyses of both the HOOP and ethylenic regions of the photoproduct spectra reveal that these features grow in with fast ( approximately 200 fs) and slow ( approximately 2-3 ps) components. These data provide the first structural evidence that photorhodopsin has a thermally unrelaxed, torsionally strained all-trans chromophore within approximately 1 ps, and possibly within 200 fs, of photon absorption. Following this ultrafast product formation, the all-trans chromophore cools and conformationally relaxes within a few picoseconds to form bathorhodopsin. This cooling process is revealed as an ethylenic frequency blue-shift of 6 cm(-1) (tau approximately 3.5 ps) as well as an ethylenic width narrowing (tau approximately 2 ps). The ultrafast production of photorhodopsin is likely accompanied by an impulsively driven, localized protein response. More delocalized protein modes are unable to relax on this ultrafast time scale enabling the chromophore-protein complex to store the large amounts of photon energy (30-35 kcal/mol) that are subsequently used to drive activating protein conformational changes.

Abstract
We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a W boson in sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV pp collision data collected with the CDF II detector at the Tevatron corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.45 fb(-1). In events consistent with the decay of the Higgs boson to a bottom-quark pair and the W boson to an electron or muon and a neutrino, we set 95% credibility level upper limits on the WH production cross section times the H→bb branching ratio as a function of Higgs boson mass. At a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV/c(2), we observe (expect) a limit of 4.9 (2.8) times the standard model value.

Measurement of the difference in CP-violating asymmetries in D(0)→K(+)K(-) and D(0)→π(+)π(-) decays at CDF. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2012; 109:111801. Abstract
We report a measurement of the difference (ΔA(CP)) between time-integrated CP-violating asymmetries in D(0)→K(+)K(-) and D(0)→π(+)π(-) decays reconstructed in the full data set of proton-antiproton collisions collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab, corresponding to 9.7 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. The strong decay D(*+)→D(0)π(+) is used to identify the charm meson at production as D(0) or D[over ¯](0). We measure ΔA(CP)=[-0.62±0.21(stat)±0.10(syst)]%, which differs from zero by 2.7 Gaussian standard deviations. This result supports similar evidence for CP violation in charm-quark decays obtained in proton-proton collisions.

Abstract
We combine the results of searches for the standard model (SM) Higgs boson based on the full CDF Run II data set obtained from sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV pp collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.45 fb(-1). The searches are conducted for Higgs bosons that are produced in association with a W or Z boson, have masses in the range 90-150 GeV/c(2), and decay into bb pairs. An excess of data is present that is inconsistent with the background prediction at the level of 2.5 standard deviations (the most significant local excess is 2.7 standard deviations).

Abstract
We report on a search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a vector boson in the full data set of proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV recorded by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.45 fb(-1). We consider events having no identified charged lepton, a transverse energy imbalance, and two or three jets, of which at least one is consistent with originating from the decay of a b quark. We place 95% credibility level upper limits on the production cross section times standard model branching fraction for several mass hypotheses between 90 and 150 GeV/c(2). For a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV/c(2), the observed (expected) limit is 6.7 (3.6) times the standard model prediction.

Search for the standard model Higgs boson decaying to a bb pair in events with two oppositely charged leptons using the full CDF data set. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2012; 109:111803. Abstract
We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a Z boson in data collected with the CDF II detector at the Tevatron, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.45 fb(-1). In events consistent with the decay of the Higgs boson to a bottom-quark pair and the Z boson to electron or muon pairs, we set 95% credibility level upper limits on the ZH production cross section times the H→bb branching ratio as a function of Higgs boson mass. At a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV/c(2), we observe (expect) a limit of 7.1 (3.9) times the standard model value.

Abstract
We combine searches by the CDF and D0 Collaborations for the associated production of a Higgs boson with a W or Z boson and subsequent decay of the Higgs boson to a bottom-antibottom quark pair. The data, originating from Fermilab Tevatron pp collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV, correspond to integrated luminosities of up to 9.7 fb(-1). The searches are conducted for a Higgs boson with mass in the range 100-150 GeV/c(2). We observe an excess of events in the data compared with the background predictions, which is most significant in the mass range between 120 and 135 GeV/c(2). The largest local significance is 3.3 standard deviations, corresponding to a global significance of 3.1 standard deviations. We interpret this as evidence for the presence of a new particle consistent with the standard model Higgs boson, which is produced in association with a weak vector boson and decays to a bottom-antibottom quark pair.
