Abstract
Platycodon grandiflorum root (Platycodi radix) saponins, platycosides, have been used as health supplements and food items for the treatment of respiratory disorders and pulmonary diseases. Deglycosylated saponins have been known to exert stronger biological effects than their glycosylated forms. In the present study, glycosylated platycosides in Platycodi radix extract were biotransformed into deglycosylated 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl platycosides, including 3-O-β-Dglucopyranosyl platycodigenin, 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl polygalacic acid, and 3-O-β-Dglucopyranosyl platyconic acid, by pectinase from Aspergillus aculeatus. This is the first report on the quantitative enzymatic production of 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl platycosides. The chemical structures of 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl platycosides were identified with LC/MS. Moreover, the biotransformation pathways of the three types of platycosides in Platycodi radix into 3-O-β-Dglucopyranosyl platycosides were established.

Abstract
Background Dry eye syndrome is the most common complication of refractive surgery. Acupuncture is widely used for the treatment of ophthalmologic diseases, but to date, few have explored the effects of acupuncture for the treatment of this condition following refractive surgery. The objective of this study is to assess the feasibility of a study design for evaluating the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment along with usual care compared with usual care only for dry eye syndrome after refractive surgery. Methods A total of 18 patients with dry eye syndrome occurring after refractive surgery participated in this study. For 4 weeks, the acupuncture plus usual care and usual care only groups received treatment three times a week. A series of assessments, namely the ocular surface disease index (OSDI), visual analog scale for ocular discomfort, quality of life, tear film break-up time, Schirmer 1 test, and fluorescein-stained corneal-surface photography, along with other general assessments were carried out. Results Although preliminary, changes in OSDI from the baseline values were significantly different between the two groups at week 5 (p = 0.0003). There was a significant difference in the trends of OSDI changes between the acupuncture plus usual care and the usual care only groups (p = 0.0039). No serious adverse events were reported during the study. Conclusion Four weeks of acupuncture treatment in addition to usual care is a feasible treatment for dry eye syndrome after refractive surgery. A full-scale randomized controlled trial is needed to confirm the clinical effectiveness of acupuncture.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Smoking is an important causative factor of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and females are considered more susceptible to the effects of smoking than males. However, in previous Korean studies, the effects of sex differences on the association between smoking and COPD have been controversial. In this study, the effects of sex differences on the association between smoking and COPD and the effects of female hidden smokers on that association in Korean adults were investigated. METHODS Data were acquired from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (KNHANES). RESULTS The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that self-reported smoking status for ex-smoker and current smoker correlated with COPD (odds ratio, OR: 1.67 and OR: 2.41, respectively). Self-reported smoking status for ex-smoker and current smoker correlated with COPD in men (OR: 1.61, OR: 2.43, respectively). Female self-reported current smoking status correlated with COPD (OR: 2.52), but female ex-smoker status was not significantly correlated with COPD. The ratios of cotinine-verified to self-reported smoking rates were 1.95 for women and 1.07 for men. CONCLUSION The results of this study were that sex differences might affect the association between COPD and smoking and that female hidden smoking might affect the association between smoking and COPD in Korean adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to identify the effect of the overweight or obesity (OWOB) trajectory on current health care expenditure in South Korea. METHODS Ten years of publicly released data (2002-12) were obtained in 2016 from a retrospective cohort of National Health Insurance System claims. This study included 51,844 adults (aged 30-59 years in 2002) and 21,196 elderly adults (aged ≥ 60 years in 2002). RESULTS Compared with adults who maintained normal weight (NW), higher yearly total health expenditures were estimated for adults who lost weight over the 10-year period: by 11.5% (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.18-22.96%) when changing from NW to underweight (UW) and 6.2% (95% CI: 0.47-12.01%) from OWOB to UW/NW. Elderly adults had higher health expenditures when they lost weight by 14.0% (95% CI: 0.37-27.70%) from NW to UW and 6.8% (95% CI: 0.13-13.51%) from OWOB to UW/NW compared with when they maintained NW. CONCLUSIONS These findings indicate the importance of early intervention to control OWOB, particularly because people in late adulthood have greater health care needs for reasons other than OWOB.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Electroacupuncture (EA) is used in the treatment of various diseases through the use of electrical stimulation. Reports of adverse events (AEs) associated with acupuncture are relatively consistent, but the safety of EA has been less well reported. In this systematic review, we provide a summary of the types of AEs related to EA in clinical practice. METHODS Twelve electronic databases, including those in English (PubMed, Ovid-EMBASE, CENTRAL), Korean (KMbase, KISS, NDSL, KISTI, OASIS), Chinese (CNKI, Wanfang, Weipu) and Japanese (J-STAGE), were systematically searched for single case studies and case series through April 2018. There were no language restrictions. We included clinical studies in which EA was used as a key intervention and in which AEs that may have been causally related to EA were reported. RESULTS Thirty-seven studies, including 27 single case studies and 10 case series, were evaluated. The most frequently reported AEs were pallor (eight cases), skin pigmentation (eight cases), vertigo (seven cases), chest tightness (six cases), vomiting (six cases) and unconsciousness (five cases). Thirty-one cases (62%) achieved full recovery and three cases (6%) achieved partial recovery. There were also three cases of death (6%). CONCLUSION AEs related to EA included acupuncture-related AEs and serious AEs induced by electrical stimulation. Currently, specific stimulation conditions associated with EA-specific AEs are not identifiable due to inappropriate reporting. However, skin pigmentation, syncope or spasm, implantable cardioverter-defibrillator shock, cardiac emergencies, electrical burns, and potential internal organ injury are potential EA-specific AEs regarding which physicians should be cautious in clinical practice.

Abstract
Non-synonymous SNPs and protein coding SNPs within the promoter region of genes (regulatory SNPs) might have a significant effect on carcass traits. Imputed sequence level data of 10,215 Hanwoo bulls, annotated and filtered to include only regulatory SNPs (450,062 SNPs), were used in a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify loci associated with backfat thickness (BFT), carcass weight (CWT), eye muscle area (EMA), and marbling score (MS). A total of 15, 176, and 1 SNPs were found to be significantly associated (p < 1.11 × 10-7) with BFT, CWT, and EMA, respectively. The significant loci were BTA4 (CWT), BTA6 (CWT), BTA14 (CWT and EMA), and BTA19 (BFT). BayesR estimated that 1.1%~1.9% of the SNPs contributed to more than 0.01% of the phenotypic variance. So, the GWAS was complemented by a gene-set enrichment (GSEA) and protein-protein interaction network (PPIN) analysis in identifying the pathways affecting carcass traits. At p < 0.005 (~2,261 SNPs), 25 GO and 18 KEGG categories, including calcium signaling, cell proliferation, and folate biosynthesis, were found to be enriched through GSEA. The PPIN analysis showed enrichment for 81 candidate genes involved in various pathways, including the PI3K-AKT, calcium, and FoxO signaling pathways. Our finding provides insight into the effects of regulatory SNPs on carcass traits.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Randomised controlled trials of acupuncture performed using sham interventions to control for the placebo effect have mostly used two types of sham techniques: techniques with minimal insertion of acupuncture needles with no additional stimulation (shallow needling control) and techniques with sham acupuncture devices that do not penetrate the skin (sham device control). To achieve successful blinding, sham device controlled acupuncture trials also use the acupuncture base unit in the verum acupuncture group, but in the shallow needling control trials this is not necessary for the verum acupuncture treatment. OBJECTIVE In this study, we analysed the estimated comparative effectiveness of these two verum acupuncture modalities in studies of acupuncture for menopausal hot flashes that used two types of sham control treatments. METHODS We conducted a network meta-analysis that included randomised controlled trials of acupuncture for hot flashes. Electronic databases, including Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library and AMED, were searched through March 2017. Data were extracted using a predefined data extraction tool by two independent reviewers. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool for randomised controlled trials. A five-node network meta-analysis was conducted based on the frequentist framework. RESULTS Eight studies were included in this review. From the network meta-analysis, we found that verum acupuncture in the shallow needling controlled trials was more effective than verum acupuncture in the sham device controlled trials (SMD -7.27, 95% CI-9.11 to -5.43). Significant heterogeneity and inconsistency were not observed among the included studies or the comparisons. CONCLUSIONS From this preliminary analysis, we found that different types of verum acupuncture may have different effect sizes with respect to the severity of menopausal hot flashes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Cryptococcal meningitis (CM) remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality among immunocompromised patients. Laboratory diagnostics for CM includes antigen detection, staining and culture. Data on the performance of the Biofire® FilmArray® meningitis/encephalitis (ME) panel for detecting Cryptococcus neoformans/gattii is limited, with several reports describing false negativity for this target. METHODS A retrospective analysis of 1384 physician-ordered ME panel tests ordered between January 2017 to October 2018 was performed. ME panel results were compared to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cryptococcal antigen (CrAg) and CSF culture testing and clinical significance of cryptococcal detection was determined. RESULTS There were 34 patients positive for cryptococcal detection by either ME panel, CSF CrAg or CSF culture in 2.7% of CSF specimens tested (38/1384). Of the 34 patients positive for cryptococcal detection, 85.3% were human immunodeficiency virus positive (29/34). The ME panel detected 32/38 (84.2%) cryptococcal-positive specimens, culture detected 28/38 (73.7%) and CSF CrAg was positive in 37/38 specimens (97.4%). The ME panel had a sensitivity and specificity of 96.4% (95% CI 81.7-99.9%) and 99.6% (95% CI 99.2-99.9%) compared with culture, and 83.8% (95% CI 68.0-93.8%) and 99.9% (95% CI 99.6-100.0%) compared to CSF CrAg testing, respectively. CrAg titres were lower among ME panel-negative, culture-negative specimens compared with ME panel-positive, culture-negative specimens (reciprocal median end-point titres of 128 ± 60 vs. 1920 ± 1730, p 0.04). All five CrAg-positive, ME panel- and culture-negative specimens were obtained from previously treated CM patients. DISCUSSION The ME panel had high correlation with CSF culture and a somewhat lower correlation with CSF CrAg testing. The potential utility of using negative ME panel test results to predict culture sterility among patients undergoing treatment for CM warrants further study.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM Kisspeptin produced from the KISS1 gene is secreted from the living cells, binds to endogenous receptor KISS1R (also called G protein-coupled receptor 54, GPR54), and has various functions in normal physiological conditions. Although an anti-metastatic role of kisspeptin in cancer is well known in several cancer types, its role in brain tumors is not yet understood. Herein, we investigated a the role of kisspeptin in glioblastoma cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS Glioblastoma cells were treated with kisspeptin and subjected to proliferation, migration, and invasion assays. KISS1R dependency was tested by KISS1R silencing with KISS1R siRNAs. RESULTS Kisspeptin inhibited migratory and invasive abilities of U87-MG, U-251-MG and U373-MG glioblastoma cells with no effect on cell viability. KISS1R gene silencing with KISS1R siRNAs blocked kisspeptin-induced glioblastoma cell invasiveness. Moreover, chemical inhibitors against Gq, PLC or PKC blocked kisspeptin-induced glioblastoma cell invasiveness. CONCLUSION Kisspeptin induces glioblastoma cell invasiveness via the KISS1R-Gq-PLC-PKC signaling pathway.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There are two methods for quantifying methylmercury (MeHg) in fish using GC-electron capture detection (ECD): AOAC INTERNATIONAL Official Method 988.11 and the Korean Food Code (KFC) method. Both of these methods consume a large amount of chemicals and require long pretreatment times because of several complicated MeHg extraction steps. OBJECTIVE In this study, a new method for the simple and rapid determination of MeHg in fish has been developed. The method is based on the investigation of oxygen combustion-gold amalgamation using a direct mercury analyzer (DMA) after the complete removal of MeHg by organic extraction and back-extraction to an aqueous medium. METHODS The DMA is suitable for the analysis of both solid and liquid materials and has a good detection limit. The developed method was validated by comparing the MeHg recoveries (%) of both certified reference materials and the market-purchased fish samples with the MeHg concentration obtained using the KFC method. RESULTS The following parameters pertaining to the developed method were established: detection limit, 1.02 μg/kg; LOQ, 3.09 μg/kg; linearity (r), 0.9998; range, 0.1-300 μg/kg; and recovery, 95-97%. CONCLUSIONS Our method is a promising alternative by virtue of its much simpler and faster sample pretreatment procedure, with a MeHg recovery as high as that of the KFC method. HIGHLIGHTS The developed method enables the simultaneous analysis of total Hg and MeHg with only DMA equipment.

Abstract
Introduction: The teaching of evidence-based medicine (EBM) is currently acknowledged to be an important aspect of the medical-education curriculum. Most programs that teach focus on knowledge transfer and skill acquisition in relation to the principle of EBM, as well as the critical appraisal. We established a 12-week elective course to teach clinical studies for undergraduate students at a Korean Medicine (KM) college, evaluating student perceptions to assess the feasibility of key teaching modules. Methods: From March 2019 to June 2019, a course was conducted, with 19 students enrolled. The course consisted of 12 modules; the last 3 classes included hands-on exercises involving a simulated clinical crossover trial. The students' perceptions of the need for and learning achieved during each teaching module were evaluated using a survey on the last day of class. Results: In student assessments of the need for each module, the median score was >4 on a 5-point Likert scale. Among student self-achievement ratings for each module, the simulated clinical trial received the highest score (a median value of 5) among all modules. Conclusion: This novel class was perceived as feasible by undergraduate KM students. The findings show the importance of teaching clinical trials to improve students' critical appraisal skills; more appropriate programs and curricula should be developed in future.

Abstract
Background Low back pain is a common symptom and continuous or recurrent pain results in chronic low back pain (CLBP). While many patients with CLBP have tried various treatments, complementary and alternative medicine including acupuncture and herbal medicine is one of the commonly used treatments. Palmijihwang-hwan is a herbal medicine used frequently in clinical practice but there has been no report of the efficacy, safety, or cost-effectiveness analysis of Palmijihwang-hwan for CLBP. Methods This study is a randomized, assessor-blinded, multicenter, clinical trial with two parallel groups. Four Korean medicine hospitals will recruit 84 participants and randomly allocate them into the control or treatment group in a 1:1 ratio. The control group will receive acupuncture treatment at 11 local and 4 distal acupuncture points for 20 min twice a week for 6 weeks. The treatment group will receive the same acupuncture treatment as the control group and also take Palmijihwang-hwan for 6 weeks. The primary outcome will be the change in visual analog scale (VAS) score between baseline (visit 1) and completion of the intervention (visit 12), and secondary outcomes will be pain-related clinical relevance (minimal clinical important difference or the proportion of the participants who decrease more than 30, or 50% on VAS), disability (Roland and Morris Disability Questionnaire), quality of life (EuroQol-5D), global assessment (Patient Global Impression of Change), and economic analysis (cost-effectiveness and cost-utility analysis). Additionally, safety will be assessed. Discussion The results of our study will provide the clinical evidence about the efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness analysis of Palmijihwang-hwan for CLBP. There will be a chance to provide multiple subdivided influence of this treatment with various outcome measures, but lack of placebo is our limitation. Abstract
Treatment of paraclinoid aneurysms weather by surgery, or endovascular embolization has a risk of visual loss due to optic neuropathy, or diplopia due to cranial nerve palsies. Visual complications occur immediately after the clipping, whereas they can occur variable time after endovascular coiling. Recently, endovascular coiling for paraclinoid aneurysm is regarded as a safe and feasible treatment. But it still has risks of acute thromboembolic complication, or cranial nerve palsies. A 45-year-old woman was referred from local hospital to our hospital due to ruptured large ICA dorsal wall aneurysm. A total of 12 coils (195 cm) were used for obliteration of aneurysm. Postoperative diffusion weighted image showed no abnormal signal intensity lesion and magnetic resonance angiography demonstrated no sign of vasospasm, or vessel narrowing. But, she complained visual problem 23 days after coil embolization. Ophthalmologist confirmed the left optic disc atrophy on fundoscopy. Although steroid was started, but monocular blindness did not recover completely. The endovascular embolization of paraclinoid aneurysm, especially projecting superiorly with large irregular shape, has the risk of progressive visual loss because of the proximity to optic nerve.

Abstract
Anorexia is common in patients with cancer, mostly as a side effect of chemotherapy. The effect of electro-acupuncture (EA) on ameliorating cancer-related symptoms have been studied in animal models and in clinical trials. The aim of this study was to determine optimal conditions for the application of EA to alleviate anorexia, followed by the study of molecular mechanisms affecting its therapeutics. Anorexia was induced in male Wistar rats by injecting cisplatin, which was then followed by EA treatment at CV12, the acupuncture point located in the center of the abdominal midline. Body weight and food intake were measured daily throughout the duration of the study. The levels of monoamine neurotransmitters in the plasma were quantitatively analyzed by HPLC-ECD. Gastrointestinal hormone concentrations were elucidated with ELISA kits. RT-qPCR was performed to evaluate the mRNA expression of ghrelin (GHRL), neuropeptide Y (NPY), and pro-opiomelanocortin. The expression of c-Fos in the nucleus tractus solitarii was detected using western blotting analysis. The optimal conditions of EA to alleviate anorexia in rats was determined to be 1 unit for intensity and 10 Hz for frequency. EA treatment at CV12 reduced the levels of plasma monoamine neurotransmitters 5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, dopamine, and norepinephrine; as well as stimulated the expression of GHRL and NPY to alleviate cisplatin-induced anorexia in rats. EA stimulation at CV12 could be used to treat cisplatin-induced anorexia in rats.

Introduction
Given the complexity of left atrial appendage (LAA) structure, current 2D based LAA occluder (LAAO) size prediction system using transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) has limitations.
Objective
To assess the accuracy of LAAO size determination method by implantation simulation using a 3D printed model compared with a conventional method based on TEE.
Methods
We retrospectively reviewed 57 cases with percutaneous LAAO using Amplatzer Cardiac Plug and Amulet from 2014 to 2018. We excluded cases without cardiac CT (21 cases) or with peri-device leakage or inappropriate position of the device on six months follow up TEE (6 cases), or with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (2 cases). We finally included 28 cases with anatomically and physiologically properly implanted LAAO, using the final size of the implanted devices as a standard for the size prediction accuracy. We generated 3D printing model from cardiac CT images. LAAO size was determined with device implantation simulation using 3D printing model and occluder devices (Figure C), and conventional 2D TEE measurements by two experienced cardiologists who were blinded to the size of the finally implanted device.
Results
The accuracy in size of 3D printed left atrium (LA) models, compared with CT image sources, were validated by measuring the distance between artifacts which were intentionally implanted to LA model during image processing. There was minimal bias (−0.11 mm) between 3D images and printed LA models (Figure A). As plotted in Figure B, LAAO sizing by implantation simulation with 3D printing model showed excellent agreement with actually implanted LAAO size (r=0.927; bias=0.7±2.5), while LAAO sizing by 2D TEE measurements remained poor (r=0.544; bias 2.3±6.7).
Conclusions
LAAO size determination by using 3D printing model of LAA showed excellent accuracy. A prospective study to evaluate the clinical utility of this method should be done in future.

Background
Dose adjustment of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) is indicated in some patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), based on selected patient factors or concomitant medications.
Purpose
We assessed the frequency of label adherence of NOAC dosing among AF patients and the associations between off-label NOAC dosing and clinical outcomes in real-world clinical practice.
Methods
We evaluated 53,649 AF patients treated with a NOAC using Korean National Health Insurance Service database during the period from January 2013 to December 2016. NOAC doses were classified as either underdosed or overdosed, consistent with U.S. Food and Drug Administration labeling. Cox proportional hazards regression was performed to investigate the effectiveness and safety outcomes including stroke or systemic embolism, major bleeding, and all-cause mortality.
Results
Overall, 16,757 NOAC-treated patients (31.2%) were underdosed, 4,492 were overdosed (8.4%), and 32,400 (60.4%) were dosed appropriately according to drug labeling. Compared with patients with label adherence, those who were underdosed or overdosed were older (71±8 and 75±7 years of age vs. 70±9 years of age, respectively; p<0.001), more likely female (39% and 53% vs. 38%, respectively; p<0.001), and had higher CHA2DS2-VASc scores (4.6±1.7 and 5.3±1.7 vs. 4.5±1.8, respectively; p<0.001). NOAC overdosing was associated with increased risk for stroke or systemic embolism (5.76 vs. 4.03 events/100 patient-years, p<0.001), major bleeding (4.77 vs. 2.94 events/100 patient-years, p<0.001), and all-cause mortality (5.43 vs. 3.05 events/100 patient-years, p<0.001) compared with label-adherent use.

Conclusion
In routine clinical practice, a significant proportion (almost 2 in 5) of AF patients received NOAC doses inconsistent with drug labeling. NOAC overdosing is associated with increased risk for stroke or systemic embolism, major bleeding, and all-cause mortality in Asian patient with AF.

Background
Radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) for accessory pathways (APs) at the site of prior valve surgery remains challenging. We aimed to clarify the factors associated with successful RFCA for such APs.
Methods
Upon reviewing a RFCA registry and previous case reports, we included nine patients who underwent RFCA of APs at the site of prior valve surgery (total-VS group; age, 34.0 [24.5–45.0] years; men, 4/9) and 196 patients who underwent RFCA of APs with no history of valve surgery (no-VS group; age, 40.5 [23.0–54.0] years; men, 114/196). Electrophysiological features, procedural details, and outcomes were examined.
Results
AP exhibited decremental conduction in four of nine patients in the total-VS group. The number of RFCA attempts was significantly higher in the total-VS group than in the no-VS group (10.0 [4.5–14.5] vs 2.0 [1.0–3.0]; p<0.001). In four patients who underwent mitral valve surgery, successful RFCA was achieved using the transaortic approach, coronary sinus approach, or bipolar ablation. In three patients who underwent tricuspid valve surgery, successful RFCA was achieved using the above-prosthetics or trans-prosthetics approach. In two patients, RFCA failed. The trans-prosthetics approach and bipolar ablation technique were effective. The transaortic and coronary sinus approaches were occasionally effective. The transseptal approach was ineffective. Based on the success rate and accessibility, we suggest a stepwise approach to RFCA of APs at the site of prior mitral or tricuspid valve surgery (Figure).

Conclusions
Successful RFCA of APs at the site of prior valve surgery can be achieved by detailed mapping of the areas both above and below the prosthetic valve, as well as by ensuring effective radiofrequency energy delivery using various catheter approaches and RFCA techniques.

Background
Although adverse effect of anemia had been reported, effect of polycythemia on cardiovascular outcome from the general population had not been revealed yet.
Methods
We included 451,107 subjects who received national health examinations from the Korean National Health Insurance Service-based National Sample Cohort from 2009–2013. Medical records were screened from January 2002 to investigate the subjects' disease-free baseline period. They were followed until December 2013. We divided male and female subjects into four categories each based on hemoglobin level (normal, moderate to severe and mild anemia, polycythemia) to assess each outcome.
Results
During 1,735,964 person·years, 12,107 major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE), 862 incident acute myocardial infarction (MI), 5,850 incident ischemic stroke, and 2,430 incident atrial fibrillation (AF) were observed. Compared to normal hemoglobin range group, polycythemia group showed higher MACCE (HR=1.23 [1.12–1.35] in male, HR=1.79 [1.20–2.67] in female, each p<0.001), incident MI (HR=1.37 [1.05–1.79] in male, HR=3.46 [1.06–14.00] in female, each p<0.001), incident ischemic stroke (HR=1.27 [1.10–1.46] in male, HR=1.72 [1.02–2.91] in female, each p<0.001), and incident AF (HR=1.46 [1.21–1.74] in male, HR=2.13 [1.03–4.77] in female, each p<0.001). Each outcome was linearly increased with the increase of hemoglobin among subjects with polycythemia (p<0.001), and with the decrease of hemoglobin among subjects with anemia (each p<0.001, U-shaped relationship). These relationship was more profound in obese female younger than 60-year-old.
Conclusion
Not only anemia but also polycythemia were significantly associated with higher rate of MACCE including death, incident MI, ischemic stroke, and AF among the general population.
