Abstract
For the spring-calving beef herds, late gestation coincides with winter and early spring, when cows are dependent on feed supplements with low quality hay, which is hard to meet their nutrient requirements. However, the effects of deficiencies of metabolizable protein intake during late gestation on offspring beef quality are unclear. Wagyu cattle have excellent marbling, and insemination with Wagyu vs Angus semen is a practical option for beef producers to improve beef quality. To test, Angus cows (621 ± 73 kg) were selected and randomly separated into two groups. Each group was inseminated with either Angus or Wagyu semen. During the last 90 days of gestation, cows in each group were further separated and received either a low protein diet (85% of the NRC metabolizable protein requirement), which was a low quality hay-based diet common in northwestern region of the U.S., or an adequate protein diet (108% NRC requirement). All progeny was managed together and harvested at a final BW of 576.5 ± 16.6 kg. Wagyu-sired offspring had higher marbling scores and quality grades than Angus (P < 0.01). Protein supplementation did not affect Slice Shear Force (SSF) in either breeds (P = 0.60). However, Wagyu-sired cattle had lower SSF than Angus-sired (P < 0.01). In addition, Wagyu-sired cattle had higher intramuscular fat (P < 0.05) and total collagen content (P < 0.05), but Angus-sired had greater mature collagen cross-links, as shown by higher contents of Pyridinoline (P < 0.01) and Ehrlich Chromogen (P < 0.01). Consistently, the mRNA expression of enzymes catalyzing collagen cross-linking was higher in Angus-sired offspring, including Plod 1 (P < 0.05), Plod 2 (P = 0.08), and P4Hα 2 (P < 0.01). In conclusion, Wagyu-sired cattle had greater tenderness and marbling score compared to Angus-sired, which was associated with lower collagen cross-links. Feeding mature grass hay-based diet with relatively low protein content during late gestation had no major effect on beef quality of subsequent cattle.

Abstract
Developing tools that accurately detect at-risk driving behaviors is a public-health priority. There is a need for a measure that accurately assesses older drivers’ level of competence on familiar roadways. The objective of this presentation is to describe the development of the procedures and scoring of a new approach, the Electronic Driving Observation Schedule (eDOS), to observe everyday driving in the community. The eDOS was used to record and compare the driving environment and performance of older drivers and low-risk younger drivers during their everyday driving. Older (n=160, >74y) and younger (n=60, 35-64y) drivers completed a 20-30-minute drive from their home to destinations of their choice. Older drivers drove on simpler routes with fewer intersections and lane changes. Both groups made few driving errors, which were mostly low-risk. Younger drivers tended to demonstrate poor driving habits (not signaling, speeding, poor lane position) and compliance with road rules. Abstract
The electronic Driving Observation Schedule (eDOS) is a novel approach to assessing older drivers' performance in their everyday driving environment on their chosen routes. The original eDOS total score is generated using the count of driving errors, which does not account for distinct risk levels of different types of driving errors made in different complexity of driving environments. This study was conducted to create one score to represent the complexity of driving route during each eDOS observation and one weighted eDOS total score to represent older drivers' performance accounting for the risk of driving errors by their type and the complexity of maneuvers in their corresponding environments. A literature review, a two-round survey with 13 experts in driving evaluation, and iterative discussions between primary investigators were conducted for generating these scores. Two formulae were created to calculate a weighted maneuver/environmental complexity score and a weighted eDOS total score. •An advanced weighted score is created to represent one's on-road driving performance in their everyday driving environment not only using the count of driving errors, but also accounting for the risk level of each error.•The complexity of driving maneuver and environment in each on-road driving trip can be systematically rated.

Abstract
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is spreading worldwide. Antiviral therapy is the most important treatment for COVID-19. Among the drugs under investigation, anti-malarials, chloroquine (CQ) and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), are being repurposed as treatment for COVID-19. CQ/HCQ were shown to prevent receptor recognition by coronaviruses, inhibit endosome acidification, which interferes with membrane fusion, and exhibit immunomodulatory activity. These multiple mechanisms may work together to exert a therapeutic effect on COVID-19. A number of in vitro studies revealed inhibitory effects of CQ/HCQ on various coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2 although conflicting results exist. Several clinical studies showed that CQ/HCQ alone or in combination with a macrolide may alleviate the clinical symptoms of COVID-19, promote viral conversion, and delay disease progression, with less serious adverse effects. However, recent studies indicated that the use of CQ/HCQ, alone or in combination with a macrolide, did not show any favorable effect on patients with COVID-19. Adverse effects, including prolonged QT interval after taking CQ/HCQ, may develop in COVID-19 patients. Therefore, current data are not sufficient enough to support the use of CQ/HCQ as therapies for COVID-19 and increasing caution should be taken about the application of CQ/HCQ in COVID-19 before conclusive findings are obtained by well-designed, multi-center, randomized, controlled studies.

Abstract
Older drivers' self-awareness of driving ability can prompt self-regulatory behaviors and modifications of their everyday driving performance. To date, studies have yet to examine how older drivers' self-awareness of changes in driving ability over time or identify the characteristics of those who can accurately monitor such changes. 64 older drivers (Age: Mean = 80.0 years, SD = 5.4; male: 70 %) were recruited and categorized into four groups based on the correspondence of changes in their perceived and actual driving ability over one year: 40 % of the participants were accurate in their stable or better driving ability over time, 30 % did not detect their driving performance had worsened and over-estimated their driving ability, and the remainder either accurately detected their performance had worsened or under-estimated their driving performance. No demographic or clinical factors were associated with older drivers' self-awareness of changes in driving ability over time, except the mental processing and executive functioning measured using the Trail Making Tests Part B, showed a marginal effect. Implications for clinical importance are discussed.

Abstract
Tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy is combined with polarization angle-resolved spectroscopy to investigate the nanometer-scale structural properties of core-shell silicon nanowires (crystalline Si core and amorphous Si shell), which were synthesized by platinum-catalyzed vapor-liquid-solid growth and silicon overcoating by thermal chemical vapor deposition. Local changes in the fraction of crystallinity in these silicon nanowires are characterized at an optical resolution of about 300 nm. Furthermore, we are able to resolve the variations in the intensity ratios of the Raman peaks of crystalline Si and amorphous Si by applying tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, at sample positions being 8 nm apart. The local crystallinity revealed using confocal Raman spectroscopy and tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy agrees well with the high-resolution transmission electron microscopy images. Additionally, the polarizations of Raman scattering and the photoluminescence signal from the tip-sample nanogap are explored by combining polarization angle-resolved emission spectroscopy with tip-enhanced optical spectroscopy. Our work demonstrates the significant potential of resolving local structural properties of Si nanomaterials at the sub-10 nanometer scale using tip-enhanced Raman techniques.

Abstract
Leishmaniasis is prevalent in Southern Europe, the Middle East, India, Africa, and Central and South America. Cutaneous leishmaniasis may spontaneously heal over time without treatment; however, risk of visceral dissemination and the impact of cosmetic defect are important concerns. We report a Case of cutaneous leishmaniasis in a patient who ever traveled to Mexico before the onset of a deteriorating wound around the swollen left eyebrow. A diagnosis of infection with Leishmania mexicana was made based on histopathological examination and molecular identification. Systemic treatment with liposomal amphotericin B and ketoconazole were administered with gradual healing of the lesion. Also, this traveler case implicates that the spread of endemic parasitic diseases may be a concealed risk on the public health for Taiwan underlying globalization.

Abstract
S-allyl-(L)-cysteine (SAC) is a bioactive compound within garlic. Its level is low since SAC formation is impeded by the cellular structure of garlic. This study investigates the effect of high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) pretreatment on SAC formation in garlic aged at 40 °C for 10 days. Results showed that HHP could enhance γ-glutamyltransferase (γ-GTP) activity, damage the cellular structure of garlic and increase SAC content in aged garlic by about 7-10 times, depending on the processing parameters. HHP processing at 300 MPa for 15 min provided the optimal conditions for enhancing γ-GTP activity (45%) and promoting SAC formation (from 0.51 ± 0.01 to 5.60 ± 0.22 mg/g dry weight). It was also found that HHP could induce the greening and browning of aged garlic. As such, we consider that HHP technology is a promising technique to produce aged black garlic products with higher amounts of bioactive compounds.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Benzodiazepines (BZDs) have been widely used to treat anxiety; however, the risk of adverse health effects caused by their long-term use is high. This study examined the factors associated with the duration and higher daily dose of BZDs use among a population with anxiety or depressive disorders. METHODS A cross-sectional study design was used. Patients from a psychiatric outpatient department who had been prescribed BZDs were recruited. Data were collected from 250 patients. RESULTS Nearly 94% of patients were long-term BZDs users. The mean duration of BZDs use was 5.5 years; and mean defined daily dose (DDD) of BZDs use, converted to diazepam milligram equivalent (DDD), was 1.53 DME-DDD. Patients who knew more about alternative treatments were less prone to use BZD longer. Patients aged 65 years or older and those with difficulty falling asleep were more prone to use BZDs longer. Patients who were currently taking BZDs at higher daily dose were those who felt more depressed, prescribed second generation antipsychotics, suffered from disrupted sleep, less aware of alternative treatments, had comorbid chronic physical illness, and were current smokers. LIMITATIONS The cross-sectional study design limited its ability to confirm causal relationships. CONCLUSIONS Long-term and excessive daily dose of BZDs use in patients with depressive or anxiety disorders needs to be noted. Providing information or program of non-pharmacological treatment in reducing anxiety and improving specific sleep disturbance is suggested. Elderly, suffering from depressive mood, had comorbid chronic physical illness need to be targeted for further intervention.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Body composition metrics as predictors of adverse events are a growing area of interest in oncology research. One barrier to the use of these metrics in clinical practice is the lack of standardized cut points for identifying patients with at-risk body composition profiles. We examined the association of chemotherapy adverse events with several body composition measures, using alternative cut points from published studies. METHODS This is a retrospective study of women diagnosed with early breast cancer (EBC). Axial computerized tomography (CT) images from lumbar L3 segments were analyzed for the following body composition measures: myosteatosis (low Skeletal Muscle Density/SMD), sarcopenia (low Skeletal Muscle Index/SMI), and high Visceral Adipose Tissue (VAT). Adverse events during chemotherapy were dose reduction, early treatment discontinuation, and hospitalization. Log-binomial modeling was used to evaluate associations between body composition measures at different cut points with adverse events, adjusting for age, race, Body Mass Index/BMI, and comorbidities. Relative risks were reported as the measure of association. RESULTS In a sample of 338 women, mean age was 51, 14% were age 65 or older, 32% were non-white, 40% had obesity (/BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2), and mean number of comorbidities was 1.56. In multivariable analysis (MV), all three SMD cut points for myosteatosis had significant associations with total number of adverse events, as well as different cut points having significant associations with either dose reduction, early treatment discontinuation or hospitalization. SMI and VAT were not significant in the MV analysis; however, in some models, age and total comorbidities were significant for adverse events. CONCLUSIONS Among CT-derived measures of body composition, myosteatosis determined at any of three SMD cut points was associated with total and individual adverse events during chemotherapy for early breast cancer.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Beaded activated carbons (BACs) were derived from waste bamboo tar through carbonization (500°C for 2 hr) followed by physical activation using carbon dioxide (800-900°C for 2-4 hr). The adsorbent was examined for their physical and chemical properties, adsorption capacities toward methylethylketone (MEK) and toluene, and regenerabilities under microwave heating. It was found that the maximum total surface area reached for bamboo-tar-derived BAC after physical activation was 1364 m2 g-1, and more than 95% of the area was attributed to the microporous structures. Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm models were applied to the adsorption isotherm fitting, and the minimum R2 for each model was 0.986, 0.915, and 0.943, respectively. The isosteric heats of adsorption calculated based on D-R parameters for methylethylketone and toluene were 44.04 to 51.50 and 45.88 to 73.27 KJ mol-1, respectively. They were slightly over the range of physisorption and increased with adsorbate loading, which might be related to the micropore filling mechanism. Microwave regeneration under 600 W of power output removed most of the adsorbate (>93.03%) within 8 min. The results of this study are intended to benefit future study on waste-derived adsorbent in environmental applications. IMPLICATIONS Recycling waste bamboo tar for the novel adsorbent preparation is shown feasible in this study. Beaded activated carbon (BAC) synthesized from this waste bamboo tar possessed a high specific surface area, which aided in the capturing of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Three adsorption isotherms, Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) models can be applied in interpreting the experimental adsorption data, providing information on adsorption heat and possible adsorption mechanism. A potential microwave regeneration method for BAC is tested, showing high desorption efficiencies with minimum heel formation. These findings can provide a new pathway for waste bamboo tar management and VOC abatement using adsorbents.

Abstract
Coal-fired power plants release substantial air pollution, including over 60% of U.S. sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions in 2014. Such air pollution may exacerbate asthma however direct studies of health impacts linked to power plant air pollution are rare. Here, we take advantage of a natural experiment in Louisville, Kentucky, where one coal-fired power plant retired and converted to natural gas, and three others installed SO2 emission control systems between 2013 and 2016. Dispersion modeling indicated exposure to SO2 emissions from these power plants decreased after the energy transitions. We used several analysis strategies, including difference-in-differences, first-difference, and interrupted time-series modeling to show that the emissions control installations and plant retirements were associated with reduced asthma disease burden related to ZIP code-level hospitalizations and emergency room visits, and individual-level medication use as measured by digital medication sensors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The efficacy of topical rapamycin is well documented for tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC)-related facial angiofibromas (FAs). Calcitriol has been shown to lessen skin fibrosis and may be therapeutically beneficial to FAs. OBJECTIVES To evaluate whether topical rapamycin-calcitriol combination is an effective and safe treatment for TSC-related FAs. METHODS Fifty-two patients with TSC with FAs were enrolled in this prospective study including three 12-week periods. In period 1, either topical rapamycin 0·1% or calcitriol 0·0003% single-agent therapy vs. their combination was applied in a double-blind, left-right-randomized, split-face comparison. The primary outcome was the reduction of modified Facial Angiofibroma Severity Index (mFASI) at week 12. In period 2, the patients were reassigned to use on both cheeks the ointment that resulted in the better primary outcome in period 1. The treatment was discontinued in period 3 (week 25-36) and a follow-up mFASI was scored to evaluate the degree of recurrence. RESULTS The mean changes in mFASI at week 12 compared with baseline were -0·92, -0·44 and -1·09 for rapamycin (P ≤ 0·001), calcitriol (P = 0·039) and rapamycin-calcitriol combination (P ≤ 0·001), respectively. Although rapamycin-calcitriol combination and rapamycin had similar statistically significant decreases of mFASI at week 12, rapamycin-calcitriol combination resulted in faster improvement in erythema, greater reduction of papule elevation and longer durability after discontinuing treatment than rapamycin alone. The treatments were well tolerated. CONCLUSIONS This randomized clinical trial demonstrates that topical rapamycin-calcitriol combination therapy is an effective and safe regimen for TSC-related FAs. What is already known about this topic? Facial angiofibromas (FAs) cause substantial psychological distress in individuals with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), but invasive procedural treatments are not applicable to all patients. Topical rapamycin has been demonstrated as an effective and safe treatment regimen for TSC-related FAs. What does this study add? Compared with baseline (day 0), both topical rapamycin 0·1% and rapamycin 0·1%-calcitriol 0·0003% combination ointment achieved statistically significant reductions in modified Facial Angiofibroma Severity Index at week 12. Compared with rapamycin alone, extended use of the rapamycin-calcitriol combination regimen until week 24 showed more effectiveness in decreasing papule elevation and could maintain a longer therapeutic effect after treatment discontinuation. Abstract
Eight new flavonoids daemoflavans A-H, including two dimeric proanthocyanidins (1 and 2), four flavans (3-6), two 2-arylbenzofurans (7 and 8), along with nine known compounds (9-17), were isolated from the fruit of Daemonorops draco. Their structures, including the absolute configurations, were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic data, ECD analysis, and X-ray crystal diffraction. Besides, the X-ray crystal data of a known compound dracoflavan B1 (9) was firstly reported. Daemoflavan G (7) represents a rare example of C-5 methylated 2-arylbenzofuran in natural products. Among the known compounds, 15, 16, 17 were reported from this species for the first time. All the compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against HepG2 cell line. Among them, compounds 1, 9 and 10 exhibited modest cytotoxic activity with IC50 values of 12.4, 12.0 and 13.2 μM, respectively.

Abstract
Radiation-induced fibrosis (RIF) occurs after radiation therapy in normal tissues due to excessive production and deposition of extracellular matrix proteins and collagen, possibly resulting in organ function impairment. This study investigates the effects of low-molecular-weight fucoidan (LMF) on irradiated NIH3T3 cells. Specifically, we quantified cellular metabolic activity, fibrosis-related mRNA expression, transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGF-β1), and collagen-1 protein expression, and fibroblast contractility in response to LMF. LMF pre + post-treatment could more effectively increase cellular metabolic activity compared with LMF post-treatment. LMF pre + post-treatment inhibited TGF-β1 expression, which mediates negative activation of phosphorylated Smad3 (pSmad3) and Smad4 complex formation and suppresses downstream collagen I accumulation. In addition, LMF pre + post-treatment significantly reduced actin-stress fibers in irradiated NIH3T3 cells. LMF, a natural substance obtained from brown seaweed, may be a candidate agent for preventing or inhibiting RIF.

Abstract
The present work aims to develop a novel and sustainable approach to adsorb and recover low-concentration Hg0 in the off-gas downstream a distillation/condensation system in the recycling processes for waste Hg-containing devices. Hg0 adsorption and regeneration efficiencies of raw and HNO3-treated activated carbon fiber cloth (ACFC) were examined. The adsorption experiments were conducted with an initial Hg0 concentration of 260-300 μg/m3 at room temperature. The regeneration of ACFC was done by an electrothermal swing process with 20, 40, and 60 W direct currents. The experimental results showed that the Hg0 adsorption efficiency of raw ACFC increased to approximately 90% after the 60 W electrothermal regeneration. After HNO3 treatment, the content of oxygen functional groups on HNO3-treated ACFC increased, which enhanced the Hg0 adsorption performance and resulted in over 90% adsorption efficiency for the samples before and after electrothermal regeneration. Importantly, both raw and HNO3-treated ACFCs retained the high adsorption efficiency after nine cycles of adsorption/regeneration, indicating that both raw and HNO3-treated ACFCs were effective and renewable adsorbents for low-concentration Hg0 adsorption and recovery. A Hg adsorption/regeneration mechanism was proposed to explain the increasing adsorption efficiency after electrothermal regeneration and the great adsorption efficiency of HNO3-treated ACFC.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the therapeutic strategy in patients with early gastric cancer after noncurative endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). Methods: A total of 107 cases with early gastric cancer receiving noncurative endoscopic submucosal dissection were collected and the patients were classified into an additional gastrectomy group (n=41) and a simple follow-up group (n=66) according to the therapeutic method used after noncurative ESD. The clinicopathological information, short- and long-term clinical outcomes between the two groups were analyzed and compared. Results: The mean age of the patients in the gastrectomy group and follow-up group was(59.2±8.7)years old and(64.7±8.8)years old, respectively. The depth of submucosal invasion was (1445.83±803.12) and (794.71±815.79) μm, respectively. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P=0.020 for age and P=0.010 for depth of submucosal invasion). Compared with follow-up group, the patients with undifferentiated histologic type, deep invasion of submucosa (SM2), diffuse type, lymphovascular invasion and neural invasion were more common in the gastrectomy group (P<0.05). The R0 resection rate of ESD in the gastrectomy group was significantly lower than the follow-up group(26.8% vs 65.2%, P<0.001). The positive residual tumor rate and LNM rate of additional gastrectomy group were 31.7%(13/41)and 9.76%(4/41)according to the pathological results after gastrectomy. The gastrectomy group had 2 cases of local recurrence (2/41, 4.9%), while 5(5/66, 7.6%)in the follow-up group(4.9% vs 7.6%, P=0.883). There was no significant difference in overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) between the two study groups (P=0.066 and 0.938, respectively). Conclusions: Assessment of LNM risk should be performed in patients with noncurative endoscopic resection. For patients with low risk of LNM who are intolerance of additional gastrectomy due to old age and comorbidities, close follow-up with endoscopy can be considered as an alternative.

Abstract
Amid an opioid epidemic and increasing HIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV) concerns, the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness developed syringe exchange programming (SEP) to reduce HIV and HCV transmission, increase linkage to health care, and provide health education to clients in Louisville, Kentucky. We describe organizational, community, and policy factors contributing to SEP development. Approximately 8000 clients received SEP services from June 2015 to December 2016. Coalition building, timely advocacy, and media engagement are integral to successful SEP development and uptake.
