Abstract
A novel series of natural product like dibenzofuran embodied homoisoflavonoids [(E)-3-(dibenzo[b,d]furan-2-ylmethylene)chroman-4-ones] designed by molecular hybridization were synthesized in very good yields via a sequence of reactions involving base catalyzed Baylis-Hillmann (BH) reaction of 2-dibenzofuran carboxaldehyde and methyl acrylate; bromination of BH adduct; condensation of resulted allylic bromide with substituted phenols or 2-dibenzofuranol followed by cyclization. Among the all 11 new compounds screened for in vitro antimycobacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv (MTB), (E)-3-(dibenzo[b,d]furan-2-ylmethylene)-6-fluorochroman-4-one (7f) and (E)-3-(dibenzo[b,d] furan-2-ylmethylene)-6-fluorochroman-4-one (7 g) were found to be active with MIC 12.5 μg/mL.

Abstract
Dienyl diketones containing tethered acetates selectively undergo two different 1,6-conjugate addition-initiated cyclization cascades. One is a 1,6-conjugate addition/cyclization sequence with incorporation of the nucleophile, and the other is catalyzed by DABCO and is thought to proceed via a cyclic acetoxonium intermediate. The reaction behavior of substrates lacking the tethered acetate was also studied. The scope of both types of cyclization cascades, the role of the amine additive, and the factors controlling reactivity and selectivity in the two different reaction pathways is discussed.

Abstract
The kinetic data for a Baylis-Hillman reaction in certain ionic liquids possessing ethylsulfate anion [EtSO(4)](-) demonstrate that the rate determining step (RDS) is second order in aldehyde, but first order in acrylate and DABCO. This observation is similar to the one made by McQuade et al., who carried out this reaction in an aprotic polar solvent like DMSO. However, this is in contrast to the general observation that RDS is first order in aldehyde, acrylate, and DABCO in organic solvents.

Abstract
Silica gel was found to be an excellent medium for some useful organic transformations under organic solvent-free conditions, such as (1) the Friedel-Crafts-type nitration of arenes using commercial aqueous 69% nitric acid alone at room temperature, (2) one-pot Wittig-type olefination of aldehydes with activated organic halides in the presence of tributyl- or triphenylphosphine and Hunig's base, and (3) the Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction of aldehydes with methyl acrylate. After the reactions, the desired products were easily obtained in good to excellent yields through simple manipulation.

Abstract
A simple and easy route to the synthesis of a variety of structurally diverse indolylquinolines, indolylacridines, and indolylcyclopenta[b]quinoline derivatives via the reductive cyclization of C-alkylated indole derivatives, derived from acyclic as well as cyclic Baylis-Hillman adducts with indoles, is described. An unusual in situ [1,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement of the indole nucleus was observed during the reductive cyclicization of α-regioselective B-H adducts containing indoles to produce indolylacridines and indolylcyclopenta[b]quinoline derivatives.

Abstract
A variety of functionalized imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines have been synthesized through a one-pot, room temperature, and reagent-free reaction between MBH acetates of nitroalkenes and 2-aminopyridines. The reaction involves a cascade inter-intramolecular double aza-Michael addition of 2-aminopyridines to MBH acetates. Our methodology is marked by excellent yield, regioselectivity and, above all, adaptability to synthesize imidazopyridine-based drug molecules such as Alpidem and Zolpidem.

Abstract
TB is a global public health emergency in which new drugs are desperately needed. Herein we report on the synthesis of a diverse panel of 41 aryl allylic azides, thiocyanates, isothiouronium salts, and N,N'-diacetylisothioureas that were evaluated for their in vitro activity against replicating and non-replicating Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) H(37)Rv and toxicity to VERO cells. We found a selective group of new and promising compounds having good (micromolar) to excellent (sub-micromolar) potency against replicating Mtb H(37)Rv. Allylic thiocyanates bearing halophenyl (halo=2-Br, 4-Br, 4-Cl, 4-F), 4-methylphenyl and 2-naphthyl moieties were the most active as antitubercular agents. In particular, the 2-bromophenyl-substituted thiocyanate showed MIC=0.25 μM against replicating Mtb, MIC=8.0 μM against non-replicating Mtb and IC(50)=32 μM in the VERO cellular toxicity assay.

Abstract
Over the years, several methods have been developed to effectively represent the chemical behavior of solutes in solvents. The environmental effects arising due to solvation can generally be achieved either through inclusion of discrete solvent molecules or by inscribing into a cavity in a homogeneous and continuum dielectric medium. In both these approaches of computational origin, the perturbations on the solute induced by the surrounding solvent are at the focus of the problem. While the rigor and method of inclusion of solvent effects vary, such solvation models have found widespread applications, as evident from modern chemical literature. A hybrid method, commonly referred to as cluster-continuum model (CCM), brings together the key advantages of discrete and continuum models. In this perspective, we intend to highlight the latent potential of CCM toward obtaining accurate estimates on a number of properties as well as reactions of contemporary significance. The objective has generally been achieved by choosing illustrative examples from the literature, besides expending efforts to bring out the complementary advantages of CCM as compared to continuum or discrete solvation models. The majority of examples emanate from the prevalent applications of CCM to organic reactions, although a handful of interesting organometallic reactions have also been discussed. In addition, increasingly accurate computations of properties like pK(a) and solvation of ions obtained using the CCM protocol are also presented.

Abstract
This review aims to present by the first time the Morita-Baylis-Hillman adducts (MBHA) as a new class of bioactive compounds and highlight its potentialities to the discovery of new cheaper and efficient drugs. Now, most these compounds can be prepared fast and on a single synthetic step (one-pot reaction) in high yields and using ecofriendly synthetic protocols. We highlight here the aromatic MBHA, which have shown diverse biological activities as anti-Leishmania chagasi and Leishmania amazonensis (parasites that cause cutaneous and visceral leishmaniasis), anti-Trypanosoma cruzi (parasite that cause Chagas disease), anti-Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium berghei (parasites that cause malaria), lethal against Biomphalaria glabrata (the snail transmitter of schistosomiasis), antibacterial, antifungal, herbicide and actives against some human tumor cell lines. Understanding of the biological mechanisms of action of this new class of molecules is still in the infancy stage. However, we report here which has been described to date on the possibilities of biological mechanisms of action, and we present new analyzes based on literature in this area. The academic and industrial interest in selecting green and cheaper experiments to the drugs development has been the prime mover of the growth on the subject.

Abstract
A convenient one-pot preparation of 2-methyl-3-(phenylthiomethyl)quinolines from Morita-Baylis-Hillman adducts via conjugate addition of thiols followed by reductive cyclization with Fe/AcOH was developed. The 2-methyl-3-(phenylthiomethyl)quinolines were transformed into 2-methyl-3-(phenylsulfonylmethyl)quinolines via m-CPBA-mediated oxidation.

Abstract
Grignard reagents trigger an addition-elimination with α'-hydroxy acrylonitriles to selectively generate Z-alkenenitriles. The modular assembly of Z-alkenenitriles from a Grignard reagent, acrylonitrile, and an aldehyde is ideal for stereoselectively synthesizing alkenes as illustrated in the synthesis of the putative lignan "morinol I."
