Abstract
In this work, a new conductive hydrogel was prepared by a simple cross-linking coordination method using 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid as the ligand and Fe3+ as the metal ion. The hydrogel film was formed on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) by a drop coating method, which can dramatically facilitate the transport of electrons. A sensitive label-free electrochemical immunosensor was fabricated following electrodeposition of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on a hydrogel film and immobilization of an antibody. Neuron-specific enolase (NSE), a lung cancer biomarker, was used as the model analyte to be detected. The proposed immunosensor exhibited a wide linear detection range of 1pgmL-1 to 200ngmL-1 and a limit of detection of 0.26pgmL-1 (the ratio of signal to noise (S/N)=3). Moreover, the detection of NSE in human serum samples showed satisfactory accuracy compared with the data determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), indicating good analytical performance of the immunoassay.

Abstract
In the present study, multivariate analytical figures of merit (AFOM) for three well-known second-order calibration algorithms, parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC), PARAFAC2 and multivariate curve resolution-alternating least squares (MCR-ALS), were investigated in simulated hyphenated chromatographic systems including different artifacts (e.g., noise and peak shifts). Different two- and three-component systems with interferences were simulated. Resolved profiles from the target components were used to build calibration curves and to calculate the multivariate AFOMs, sensitivity (SEN), analytical sensitivity (γ), selectivity (SEL) and limit of detection (LOD). The obtained AFOMs for different simulated data sets using different algorithms were used to compare the performance of the algorithms and their calibration ability. Furthermore, phenanthrene and anthracene were analyzed by GC-MS in a mixture of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) to confirm the applicability of multivariate AFOMs in real samples. It is concluded that the MCR-ALS method provided the best resolution performance among the tested methods and that more reliable AFOMs were obtained with this method for the studied chromatographic systems with various levels of noise, elution time shifts and presence of unknown interferences.

Abstract
A green method is reported based on non-sophisticated instrumental for the quantification of seven natural and synthetic estrogens, three progestagens and one androgen in the presence of real interferences. The method takes advantage of: (1) chromatography, allowing total or partial resolution of a large number of compounds, (2) dual detection, permitting selection of the most appropriate signal for each analyte and, (3) second-order calibration, enabling mathematical resolution of incompletely resolved chromatographic bands and analyte determination in the presence of interferents. Consumption of organic solvents for cleaning, extraction and separation are markedly decreased because of the coupling with MCR-ALS (multivariate curve resolution/alternating least-squares) which allows the successful resolution in the presence of other co-eluting matrix constituents. Rigorous IUPAC detection limits were obtained: 6-24 ng L(-1) in water, and 0.1-0.9 ng g(-1) in sediments. Relative prediction errors were 2-10% (water) and 1-8% (sediments).

Abstract
Excitation-emission matrix fluorescence (EEMF) and total synchronous fluorescence (TSF) spectroscopy are two conceptually different fluorescence techniques that have been used to map the fluorescence responses of the fluorophores present in a multifluorophoric mixture. EEMF was introduced four decades back and most of the fluorimeters have the suitable computer program which allows the acquisition EEMF spectra. Recently introduced TSF spectroscopy has been shown to possess good application potential in analytical fluorimetry and has started attracting the attention of analytical chemists. TSF data structure, however, is intrinsically different from EEMF data structure and a better understanding of TSF data structure is crucial to utilising its application potential. In the present work, a comprehensive comparative study between EEMF and TSF spectroscopic data set was performed by taking aqueous mixtures containing low concentrations of benzo[a]pyrene, chrysene, and pyrene as test case. The EEMF and TSF data structures were clearly explained by taking pyrene as an example. The effects of Rayleigh and Raman scattering on the quality of EEMF and TSF data sets were studied. EEMF and TSF data sets of dilute aqueous mixtures of benzo[a]pyrene, chrysene, and pyrene were subjected to three chemometric techniques PARAFAC, N-PLS, and MCR-ALS analysis. TSF data set in particular was found to be highly attuned to MCR-ALS analysis. Obtained results of chemometric analyses on EEMF and TSF data sets show that TSF data of dilute aqueous mixtures provides more accurate spectral and concentration information than EEMF data sets. Therefore, TSF spectroscopy could be considered as an alternate to the EEMF for the analyses of dilute multifluorophoric mixtures.

Abstract
In this work, we present the development of a method for the determination of doxorubicin in plasma samples in the presence of an unexpected component (riboflavin) by using total synchronous fluorescence spectroscopic data matrices. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that the second-order advantage is obtained with this kind of data. Two strategies including unfolding the data and: (a) processing with multivariate curve resolution coupled to alternating least-squares as first-order data or (b) processing with unfolded partial least-squares and exploiting the second-order advantage by the residual bilinearization procedure were considered. The calibration set was built with human plasma samples spiked with doxorubicin, while the validation set was prepared with human plasma samples spiked with both doxorubicin and riboflavin, a drug whose spectrum highly overlaps with the one corresponding to doxorubicin. Both methodologies reached good indicators of accuracy: recoveries of ca. 100 ± 8% and REP of ca. 5%; and precision: coefficient of variations between 7 and 9%.
