Abstract
An efficient method for the synthesis of 3-functionalized quinolines from commercially available acetophenones and anthranil has been described. Selectfluor propels the C(sp3)–H bond activation of the acetophenones and aza-Michael addition of anthranil resulting in annulated 3-acylquinolines in moderate to high yields. DMSO acts not only as a solvent but also as a one carbon donor in the reaction. An efficient method for the synthesis of 3-functionalized quinolines from acetophenones and anthranil mediated by Selectfluor was achieved.![]()

Differentiation between enamines and tautomerizable imines in the oxidation reaction with TEMPO. Nat Commun 2018; 9:5002. Abstract
Enamine and imine represent two of the most common reaction intermediates in syntheses, and the imine intermediates containing α-hydrogen often exhibit the similar reactivity to enamines due to their rapid tautomerization to enamine tautomers. Herein, we report that the minor structural difference between the enamine and the enamine tautomer derived from imine tautomerization results in the different chemo- and regioselectivity in the reaction of cyclohexanones, amines and TEMPO: the reaction of primary amines furnishes the formal oxygen 1,2-migration product, α-amino-enones, while the reaction of secondary amines under similar conditions generates exclusively arylamines via consecutive dehydrogenation on the cyclohexyl rings. The 18O-labeling experiment for α-amino-enone formation revealed that TEMPO served as oxygen transfer reagent. Experimental and computational studies of reaction mechanisms revealed that the difference in chemo- and regioselectivity could be ascribed to the flexible imine-enamine tautomerization of the imine intermediate containing an α-hydrogen. Tautomerization of imines into enamines is the basis of their similar reactivity; however, minor structural changes may lead to different outcomes. Here, the authors show that the reaction of cyclohexanone and amines in presence of TEMPO affords either α-amino-enones or arylamines depending on the intermediate imine structure.

Abstract
The development of a general platinum-catalyzed desaturation of N-protected lactams, ketones, and lactones to their conjugated α,β-unsaturated counterparts is reported. The reaction operates under mildly acidic conditions at room temperature or 50 °C. It is scalable and tolerates a wide range of functional groups. The complementary reactivity to the palladium-catalyzed desaturation is demonstrated in the efficient conversion of iodide, bromide, and sulfur-containing substrates.

Abstract
The solvothermal cycloreversion and in situ oxidation of 1,2,3,4-tetra(pyridin-4-yl)cyclobutane (tpcb) within [CuCN] n-based MOFs were investigated. The radical mechanism for the cycloreversion of tpcb ligands was supported by capturing a 1,3-butadiene species 1,2,3,4-tetra(4-pyridyl)-1,3-butadiene (tpyb) into {[Cu18(μ-CN)18(tpcb)4(tpyb)2]·H2O} n in the presence of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO). Without TEMPO, a furan-based ligand 2,3,4,5-tetra(4-pyridyl)furan (tpyf) was generated within {[Cu4(μ-CN)4(tpyf)]·4MeCN} n via the C-C cleavage, followed by in situ oxidation in acidic condition.

Abstract
We report a direct β-alkylation of ketones and aldehydes with simple alkyl bromides through a Pd-catalyzed redox-cascade strategy. The use of a Cu cocatalyst is important for improved efficiency. The reaction is redox-neutral, without the need for strong acids or bases. Both cyclic and acyclic ketones, as well as α-branched aldehydes, are suitable substrates for coupling with secondary and tertiary alkyl bromides. Concise formal synthesis of Zanapezil is achieved using this β-alkylation method.

Abstract
Compound libraries are important requirement in target-based drug discovery. In the present work, a small focused compound library based on β-aminoketone scaffold has been prepared combining microwave-assisted organic synthesis (MAOS) with polymer-assisted solution phase synthesis (PASPS) and replacing reaction workup standard purification procedures with solid phase extraction (SPE). Specifically, the effects of solvent, such as dioxane, dimethylformamide (DMF), polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG 400), temperature, irradiation time, stoichiometric ratio of reagents, and catalysts (HCl, acetic acid, cerium ammonium nitrate (CAN)) were investigated to maximize both conversion and yield. The optimized protocol generally afforded the desired products in satisfying yields and purities. The designed library is a part of our current research on sigma 1 receptor modulators, a valuable tool for the identification of novel potential hit compounds.

Abstract
Direct aerobic α,β-dehydrogenation of γ,δ-unsaturated amides and acids using a simple iridium/copper relay catalysis system is described. We developed a new strategy that overcomes the challenging issue associated with the low α-acidity of amides and acids. Instead of α-C-H metalation, this reaction proceeds by β-C-H activation, which results in enhanced α-acidity. Conjugated dienamides and dienoic acids were synthesized in excellent yield with this reaction, which uses a simple reaction protocol. Abstract
A novel and efficient Cu(OAc)2 -catalyzed hydroamination cyclization and 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO)-mediated oxidative dehydrogenation cascade reaction of homopropargylic amines has been developed. A library of 1,2-disubstituted pyrrole derivatives were obtained in good-to-high yields in one pot with no step-by-step feeding process. This reaction involved TEMPO playing dual roles as both an oxidative dehydrogenation reagent and a ligand. An insight into the reaction mechanism was obtained by using several analytical determination methods.

Abstract
A Cu2(OBA)2(BPY) metal–organic framework was utilized as a productive heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of 3-aroylquinolines via one-pot domino reactions of 2-aminobenzylalcohols with propiophenones. This Cu-MOF was considerably more active towards the one-pot domino reaction than a series of transition metal salts, as well as nano oxide and MOF-based catalysts. The MOF-based catalyst was reusable without a significant decline in catalytic efficiency. To the best of our knowledge, the transformation of 2-aminobenzylalcohols to 3-aroylquinolines was not previously reported in the literature, and this protocol would be complementary to previous strategies for the synthesis of these valuable heterocycles. Cu2(OBA)2(BPY) metal–organic framework was utilized as a productive heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of 3-aroylquinolines via one-pot domino reactions of 2-aminobenzylalcohols with propiophenones.![]()

Abstract
In organic molecules, the reactivity at the carbon atom next to the functional group is dramatically different from that at other carbon atoms. Herein, we report that a versatile copper-catalyzed method enables successive dehydrogenation or dehydrogenation of ketones, aldehydes, alcohols, α,β-unsaturated diesters, and N-heterocycles to furnish stereodefined conjugated dienecarbonyls, polyenecarbonyls, and nitrogen-containing heteroarenes. On the basis of mechanistic studies, the copper-catalyzed successive dehydrogenation process proceeds via the initial α,β-desaturation followed by further dehydrogenative desaturation of the resultant enone intermediate, demonstrating that the reactivity at α-carbon is transferred through carbon–carbon double bond or longer π-system to the carbon atoms at the positions γ, ε, and η to carbonyl groups. The dehydrogenative desaturation–relay is ascribed to the formation of an unusual radical intermediate stabilized by 5- or 7,- or 9-center π-systems. The discovery of successive dehydrogenation may open the door to functionalizations of the positions distant from functional groups in organic molecules. Synthesis of valuable polyene molecules under mild conditions and with good functional groups tolerance is of paramount importance. Here, the authors show the versatile copper-catalyzed successive dehydrogenation of a variety of organic substrates affording highly conjugated unsaturated products.

Abstract
The telescoping of allyl-palladium catalyzed ketone dehydrogenation with organocuprate conjugate addition chemistry allows for the introduction of aryl, heteroaryl, vinyl, acyl, methyl, and other functionalized alkyl groups chemoselectively to a wide variety of unactivated ketone compounds via their enone counterparts. The compatibility of the dehydrogenation conditions additionally allows for efficient trapping of the intermediate enolate with various electrophiles. The utility of this approach is demonstrated by comparison to several previously reported multistep sequences.

Abstract
A novel [3+2] cycloaddition between a variety of cyclic ketones and diverse olefins or alkynes can be effectively promoted by copper in combination with the tri-tert-butylphosphine [P(tBu)3 ] ligand. This protocol exhibits excellent selectivity and provides an exemplary set of fused heterocycles in good to excellent yields. Present strategy also represents an extremely simple and atom-economic way to construct substituted fused furans and naphthofurans from readily available starting materials under mild reaction conditions. The utility of the method is further demonstrated by the synthesis of chiral furans from (R)-(-)-carvone and (S)-(+)-carvone. A plausible mechanism involving the oxidative radical cyclization has been suggested based on experimental observations.
