Abstract
H2O is routinely described as a proton donor, however, in the presence of diboron compounds, the umpolung reaction of H2O under metal-free conditions was successfully developed, which could afford hydride species, leading to a highly efficient and chemoselective reduction of CO bonds.

Abstract
A highly enantio- and diastereoselective copper-catalyzed three-component coupling affords the first general synthesis of homoallylic amines bearing adjacent stereocenters from achiral starting materials. The method utilizes a commercially available NHC ligand and copper source, operates at ambient temperature, couples readily available simple imines, allenes, and diboranes, and yields high-value homoallylic amines that exhibit versatile amino, alkenyl, and boryl units.

Abstract
Although known for over 90 years, only in the past two decades has the chemistry of diboron(4) compounds been extensively explored. Many interesting structural features and reaction patterns have emerged, and more importantly, these compounds now feature prominently in both metal-catalyzed and metal-free methodologies for the formation of B-C bonds and other processes.

Abstract
Multisubstituted olefins are fundamental motifs in organic compounds. In this account, we describe the synthesis of organic molecules bearing an olefinic moiety by the transition-metal-catalyzed regio- and stereoselective addition of a variety of interelement compounds to alkynes. Regio- and stereoselective silaboration, diborylation, and chlorothiolation have been achieved by using the transition-metal catalysts. The subsequent cross-coupling reactions of the boron-containing alkenes to install various aryl groups afforded the corresponding tri- and tetraarylated olefins. This account describes our research on the highly regio- and stereoselective synthesis of multifunctionalized olefins such as tetraarylethenes with four different aryl groups.

Abstract
The highly regioselective hydroselenation of N-vinyl lactams has been revealed to successfully afford the corresponding N,Se-acetals as Markovnikov adducts. In the case of terminal N-vinyl lactams, Markovnikov-selective hydroselenation proceeds efficiently in the absence of any catalyst (or additive), owing to the acidity of the selenols. In contrast, the self-promoted hydroselenation is inefficient with internal N-vinyl lactams. In the presence of palladium diacetate (Pd(OAc)2), however, the desired hydroselenation of internal N-vinyl lactams proceeds efficiently to afford the corresponding N,Se-acetals.

Abstract
This review covers recent achievements in metal-catalyzed Z-H and Z-Z (Z=S, Se) bond addition to the triple bonds of alkynes-a convenient and atom-efficient way to carbon-element bond formation. Various catalytic systems (both homogeneous and heterogeneous) developed to date to obtain mono- and bis-chalcogen-substituted alkenes or dienes, as well as carbonyl compounds or heterocycles, starting from simple and available alkynes and chalcogenols or dichalcogenides are described. The right choice of metal and ligands allows us to perform these transformations with high selectivities under mild reaction conditions, thus tolerating unprotected functional groups in substrates and broadening ways of further modification of the products. The main aim of the review is to show the potential of the catalytic methods developed in synthetic organic chemistry. Thus, emphasis is made on the scope of reactions, types of products that can be selectively formed, convenience, and scalability of the catalytic procedures. A brief mechanistic description is also given to introduce new readers to the topic.

Abstract
A regioselective 1,4-hydroiodination of dienyl alcohols has been developed using trimethylsilyl iodide as Lewis acid and iodide source. A range of homoallylic alcohols containing a multisubstituted Z-alkene was synthesized with good to excellent configurational control. The approach was applied in sequential hydroiodination/Prins cyclization to afford multisubstituted tetrahydropyrans diastereoselectively.
