Abstract
Background. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as crucial regulators in various cancers. However, the potential role of miR-2355-5p in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC) remains unclear. Methods. Bioinformatics methods were implemented to find the candidate target gene of miR-2355-5p. Quantitative real-time PCR was performed to detect RNA expression levels of miR-2355-5p and NISCH, while western blot was carried out for the detection of protein levels of NISCH and cell cycle-related biomarkers. CCK-8, EdU staining, and flow cytometry were employed to measure cell proliferation and cell cycle progression. Dual-luciferase assay and RNA pulldown were conducted to verify the binding relationship between miR-2355-5p and NISCH. Results. The expression levels of miR-2355-5p and NISCH were, respectively, higher and lower in HNSC tissues than those in normal adjacent tissues. The transfection of the miR-2355-5p inhibitor suppressed cell proliferation by arresting the cells at the G1/S transition. The results of luciferase activity and RNA pulldown assays indicated that miR-2355-5p directly targeted the NISCH 3′-untranslated region. Furthermore, the effects of miR-2355-5p inhibition on cell proliferation were reversed after treatment with siRNA against NISCH. Conclusion. In summary, our findings indicate that miR-2355-5p promotes cell cycle progression in HNSC by targeting NISCH. Hence, targeting miR-2355-5p could be a promising therapeutic strategy for the treatment of HNSC

Abstract
Background: Urban liveability is a multidimensional concept associated with many domains of human health. Objectives: This study aimed at investigating the association between urban liveability and cancer incidence in Iran. Methods: The data of provincial-level urban liveability were obtained from reliable sources. The data of cancer incidence were inquired from the population-based cancer registry of the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education in 2016. Urban liveability scores were determined in all provinces of Iran by utilizing the Global Liveable City Index (GLCI) method. Negative binomial Poisson regression was used to examine the relationship between urban liveability and cancer incidence. Results: Provinces with a higher urban liveability had a higher likelihood of cancer incidence. Higher economic score was significantly associated with higher incidence in colorectal (IRR = 1.49, P = 0.005), liver (IRR = 1.48, P = 0.002), leukemia (IRR = 1.39, P = 0.005), lung (IRR = 1.39, P = 0.039), breast (IRR = 1.38, P = 0.011), and prostate cancers (IRR = 2.11, P < 0.001). Also, provinces with higher environmental friendliness and sustainability had significantly more stomach (IRR = 1.53, P = 0.004), colorectal (1.79, P < 0.001), lung (IRR = 1.43, P = 0.014), and prostate (IRR = 1.50, P = 0.032) cancer incidence. Provinces with higher political governance had significantly more breast cancer (IRR = 1.34, P = 0.002) and leukemia (IRR = 1.30, P = 0.016) incidence rates. Conclusions: Along with the development of urban liveability, the incidence of cancers is increasing in Iran. Cancer control strategies should be implemented especially in settings with higher urbanization.

Abstract
The introduction of next generation sequencing techniques has enabled the characterization of the urinary tract microbiome, which resulted in the rejection of the long-held notion of urinary bladder sterility. Since the discovery and confirmation of the human bladder microbiome, an increasing number of studies have defined this microbial community and understand better its relationship to urinary pathologies. The composition of microbial communities in the urinary tract is linked to a variety of urinary diseases. The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of current information about the urinary microbiome and diseases as well as the development of novel treatment methods.

Abstract
Abstract
In this study, a novel CT contrast agent used by rectal administration is developed for targeting intestinal imaging. Iopamidol, an iodinated contrast agent, is loaded in chitosan (CS) nanospheres modified by Anti-5-HT3R (AH) antibody. The obtained AH-CS-I nanospheres (AH-CS-I Ns) would combine to 5-HT3 receptors highly expressed on the gastrointestinal mucosal, enhancing the intestinal-targeting ability of the contrast agent. The AH-CS-I Ns were administered by the rectal route for intestinal CT imaging, and FITC-labeled AH-CS-I Ns were prepared for investigating the in vivo distribution of the contrast agent. As a result, obvious contrast enhancement could still be observed at 6 h post administration because of the poorly absorption of enteral AH-CS-I Ns. Unlike the intravascularly administered agents, AH-CS-I Ns would not accumulate in the kidney and induce adverse reactions. Therefore, this technology has potential applications in the examination of intestinal diseases and could reduce the side effect of commercial iopamidol.

Abstract
Introducción. El cáncer de pulmón es la primera causa de mortalidad por cáncer a nivel mundial, lo que hace que sea considerado un problema de salud pública. Existen diferentes hallazgos imagenológicos que hacen sospechar la presencia de cáncer de pulmón, uno de los cuales son los nódulos pulmonares; sin embargo, estos también pueden verse en entidades benignas.
Métodos. Se incluyeron 66 pacientes con biopsia de nódulo pulmonar en la Clínica Reina Sofía, en la ciudad de Bogotá, D.C., Colombia, entre el 1° de marzo del 2017 y el 28 de febrero del 2020. Se analizaron las características demográficas de los pacientes, las características morfológicas e histopatológicas de los nódulos pulmonares y la correlación entre sus características imagenológicas e histopatológicas.
Resultados. El 69,2 % de los nódulos estudiados tenían etiología maligna, de estos el 55,5 % era de origen metástasico y el 44,5 % eran neoplasias primarias de pulmón, con patrón sólido en el 70,6 % de los casos. El patrón histológico más frecuente fue adenocarcinoma. Respecto a las características radiológicas, en su mayoría los nódulos malignos medían de 1 a 2 cm, de morfología lisa y distribución múltiple, localizados en lóbulos superiores.
Conclusiones. La caracterización de los nódulos pulmonares brinda información relevante que orienta sobre los diagnósticos más frecuentes en nuestro medio, cuando se estudian nódulos sospechosos encontrados incidentalmente o en el seguimiento de otro tumor. Como el nódulo es la manifestación del cáncer temprano del pulmón, establecer programas de tamización que permitan el diagnóstico oportuno, es hoy día una imperiosa necesidad, para reducir la mortalidad.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in COVID-19 is associated with a high
mortality rate, though outcomes of the different lung compliance phenotypes are unclear. We aimed to
measure lung compliance and examine other factors associated with mortality in COVID-19 patients
with ARDS.
Methods: Adult patients with COVID-19 ARDS who required invasive mechanical ventilation at 8
hospitals in Singapore were prospectively enrolled. Factors associated with both mortality and differences
between high (<40mL/cm H2O) and low (<40mL/cm H2O) compliance were analysed.
Results: A total of 102 patients with COVID-19 who required invasive mechanical ventilation were
analysed; 15 (14.7%) did not survive. Non-survivors were older (median 70 years, interquartile
range [IQR] 67–75 versus median 61 years, IQR 52–66; P<0.01), and required a longer duration of
ventilation (26 days, IQR 12–27 vs 8 days, IQR 5–15; P<0.01) and intensive care unit support
(26 days, IQR 11–30 vs 11.5 days, IQR 7–17.3; P=0.01), with a higher incidence of acute kidney injury
(15 patients [100%] vs 40 patients [46%]; P<0.01). There were 67 patients who had lung compliance
data; 24 (35.8%) were classified as having high compliance and 43 (64.2%) as having low compliance.
Mortality was higher in patients with high compliance (33.3% vs 11.6%; P=0.03), and was associated
with a drop in compliance at day 7 (-9.3mL/cm H2O (IQR -4.5 to -15.4) vs 0.2mL/cm H2O (4.7 to -5.2)
P=0.04).
Conclusion: COVID-19 ARDS patients with higher compliance on the day of intubation and a
longitudinal decrease over time had a higher risk of death.

Abstract
The concept of invasion is useful across a broad range of contexts, spanning from the fine scale landscape of cancer tumors up to the broader landscape of ecosystems. Invasion biology provides extraordinary opportunities for studying the mechanistic basis of contemporary evolution at the molecular level. Although the field of invasion genetics was established in ecology and evolution more than 50 years ago, there is still a limited understanding of how genomic level processes translate into invasive phenotypes across different taxa in response to complex environmental conditions. This is largely because the study of most invasive species is limited by information about complex genome level processes. We lack good reference genomes for most species. Rigorous studies to examine genomic processes are generally too costly. On the contrary, cancer studies are fortified with extensive resources for studying genome level dynamics and the interactions among genetic and non-genetic mechanisms. Extensive analysis of primary tumors and metastatic samples have revealed the importance of several genomic mechanisms including higher mutation rates, specific types of mutations, aneuploidy or whole genome doubling and non-genetic effects. Metastatic sites can be directly compared to primary tumor cell counterparts. At the same time, clonal dynamics shape the genomics and evolution of metastatic cancers. Clonal diversity varies by cancer type, and the tumors’ donor and recipient tissues. Still, the cancer research community has been unable to identify any common events that provide a universal predictor of “metastatic potential” which parallels findings in evolutionary ecology. Instead, invasion in cancer studies depends strongly on context, including order of events and clonal composition. The detailed studies of the behavior of a variety of human cancers promises to inform our understanding of genome level dynamics in the diversity of invasive species and provide novel insights for management.

Abstract
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most frequently occurring tumor in the human population. CRCs are usually adenocarcinomatous and originate as a polyp on the inner wall of the colon or rectum which may become malignant in the due course of time. Although the therapeutic options of CRC are limited, the early diagnosis of CRC may play an important role in preventive and therapeutic interventions to decrease the mortality rate. The CRC-affected tissues exhibit several molecular markers that may be exploited as the novel strategy to develop newer approaches for the treatment of the disease. Nanotechnology consists of a wide array of innovative and astonishing nanomaterials with both diagnostics and therapeutic potential. Several nanomaterials and nano formulations such as Carbon nanotubes, Dendrimer, Liposomes, Silica Nanoparticles, Gold nanoparticles, Metal-organic frameworks, Core-shell polymeric nano-formulations, Nano-emulsion System, etc can be used to targeted anticancer drug delivery and diagnostic purposes in CRC. The light-sensitive photosensitizer drugs loaded gold and silica nanoparticles can be used to diagnose as well as the killing of CRC cells by the targeted delivery of anticancer drugs to cancer cells. This review is focused on the recent advancement of nanotechnology in the diagnosis and treatment of CRC.

Abstract
Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of radiation and tooth bleaching on the physical and morphological properties of enamel and dentin on permanent teeth.Materials and Methods: Eighty fresh, non-carious third molars were used in this study. Before cutting the crown in half, the teeth samples were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups by using a lottery method. The first group (n = 20) underwent standard radiation protocol (2 Gy/fraction/day, 5 days/week) with bleaching treatment afterward using 16% carbamide peroxide gel, the second group (n = 20) underwent standard radiation protocol with afterward bleaching treatment using 38% hydrogen peroxide, the third group (n = 20) underwent a short, one strong, experimental dose of 70 Gy with afterward bleaching treatment using 16% carbamide peroxide gel, and the fourth group (n = 20) underwent one strong, experimental dose of 70 Gy with afterward bleaching treatment using 38% hydrogen peroxide gel. Groups 5–8 (n = 20) served as control as they underwent only bleaching treatment. Vickers microhardness and surface roughness were performed before (initial) and after irradiation and before bleaching or after only bleaching. The effects of irradiation and bleaching on microhardness (or roughness) of enamel and dentin were analyzed in the repeated-measures ANOVA model.Results: Enamel microhardness after experimental single 70-Gy irradiation or after standard radiation protocol and bleaching with 16 or 38% gel was not statistically significant from microhardness in the control group (p > 0.05). There was a statistically significantly greater reduction in the average microhardness of enamel and dentin during bleaching with 38% gel compared to 16% for both radiation protocols (p < 0.001). After experimental 70-Gy irradiation and bleaching, a 16% statistically significant increase in surface roughness was found for enamel (p = 0.006) and dentin (p = 0.018), while this was not recorded for 38% gel. There was a statistically significantly greater increase in the average roughness of enamel and dentin during bleaching with 38% gel compared to 16% (p < 0.001) for both radiation protocols.Conclusions: Directly induced radiation leads to potential damage of hard dental tissues, which can be further damaged by additional bleaching. If teeth whitening is necessary after irradiation, it is suggested to use lower concentrations of whitening gels.

Método: Muestra por conveniencia de 155 pacientes oncológicos atendidos por el Programa de Cuidados Paliativos de un grupo de centros hospitalarios en las ciudades de Bogotá y Cali en Colombia. Para estimar la validez de constructo, se utilizó el análisis factorial exploratorio (AFE) con rotación varimax; posteriormente, se usaron cargas factoriales para estimar el coeficiente Omega y posteriormente el análisis de Rash reconocido Análisis de la Teoría de la respuesta al ítem (TRI). El análisis fue realizado en Winsteps 2.80. Resultados: Todas las correlaciones son significativas entre los ítems de la escala Funcionamiento Global (FG) con el puntaje total obtenido en esta escala y el puntaje total del QLQ PAL-15; la misma situación ocurre con los ítems de la escala Funcionamiento Emocional (FE) que correlaciona de modo directamente proporcional y con una magnitud alta con el puntaje total del QLQ PAL-15. En cuanto al total de la escala, existe un adecuado ajuste para los ítems ya que sus valores Infit: (IMNSQ 0,99; ZSDT: -0,3) y Outfit (OMNSQ 1,02; ZSDT-0,2) se encuentran dentro de los rangos establecidos como parámetros de ajuste. Conclusiones: La validación del EORTC QLQ-C15-PAL demostró propiedades psicométricas satisfactorias al aplicarse en pacientes con enfermedad oncológica avanzada en Colombia. Se plantea para estudios posteriores realizar ajuste en la redacción de los ítems 7,11 y 13 para que estos discriminen de manera precisa el rasgo que pretenden medir.

Population Based Survival Analysis of Females Diagnosed with Breast Cancer and Its Related Factors in Kerman Province from 2001 to 2015, Using Parametric Log-Logistic Models. Abstract
Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide and 14.2% of deaths in Iranian women were due to breast cancer. Objectives: The present study aimed at investigating the survival of females with breast cancer diagnosed over 14 years and its related factors in Kerman Province. Methods: This is a longitudinal study. Information about 2851 females diagnosed with breast cancer was inquired from the Cancer Registry of Kerman University of Medical Sciences from March 2001 to March 2015. Data analysis was performed by Stata 14 and SPSS 22. Results: Totally, 8511 women diagnosed with breast cancer were enrolled in this study. The median survival time among patients with grade 3 at diagnosis was 0.51 of patients with grade 1 (P = 0.016). The median survival time among patients with stage 4 at diagnosis was 0.11 of patients with stages 0 and 1 (P < 0.001). The median survival time among post-menopause patients at diagnosis was 0.65 of pre-menopause patients (P = 0.014). The median survival time among patients with secondary metastasis was 0.22 of patients without it (P < 0.001) and the median survival time among patients with hormonotherapy was 1.52 of patients without this treatment (P = 0.013). Conclusions: Early diagnosis can improve the survival of patients with breast cancer. Periodic checkups especially in menopause ages are recommended. Hormone therapy has been successful in increasing patients’ survival.

Abstract
Human melanoma cells are known as one of the most aggressive cancer cells, and consequently, melanoma is one of the most incurable cancer diseases. There is intense activity in research and development of potential medicines for malignant diseases, including alternative forms of remedies. Therefore, the purpose of our work was testing extracts from the common houseleek (Sempervivum tectorum) grown in Slovenia to establish its impact on human melanoma cells. Namely, we wanted to verify if the extracts inhibit growth of malignant cells and their metabolic activity. Soxhlet, cold solvent, ultrasound, and supercritical extraction methods were applied to obtain S. tectorum extracts. Polyphenols and proanthocyanins content in acquired extracts was determined as well as their antioxidative potential. For a relevant comparison, Chinese (CHI) dried and Slovenian (SLO) lyophilized S. tectorum was used. Results showed that the highest contents of polyphenols and proanthocyanins were yielded from lyophilized material, which also had the highest antioxidative potential. The focus of our work was on analysis of possible inhibition effects of the extracts on human melanoma cells since no past studies were found regarding the possible effects of S. tectorum on metabolic activity of WM-266-4. We established that in a 24-h incubation period, the extracts inhibited metabolic activity of the cells at their concentrations of 20, 10, 4, 2, 1, 0.2, and 0.02 mg/mL. Extract obtained from SLO S. tectorum (ultrasound extraction with acetone as a solvent), which showed promising results of inhibitory effect on the mentioned cells, was further described since the local plant was the focus of our study. CHI S. tectorum extract (Soxhlet extraction with ehtanol:water mixture = 1:1 as a solvent) showed the highest inhibitory effect on human melanoma cells WM-266-4, although both obtained extracts are suitable for their growth inhibition of this specific cell line. Our results suggest inhibitory ability of S. tectorum extracts on the metabolic activity of WM-266-4 metastatic cell line, suggesting their potential use as an anticancer agent.

Abstract
Frizzled7 activates β-catenin-dependent and β-catenin-independent Wnt signalling pathways, is highly conserved through evolution from the ancient phylum hydra to man, plays essential roles in stem cells, tissue homeostasis and regeneration in the adult, and is upregulated in diverse cancers. Much of what is known about the core components of the Wnt signalling pathways was derived from studying the function of Frizzled7 orthologues in the development of lower organism. As we interrogate Frizzled7 signalling and function for therapeutic targeting in cancer, it is timely to revisit lower organisms to gain insight into the context dependent and dynamic nature of Wnt signalling for effective drug design.

Usefulness of Circulating CYFRA21-1 in Patients as a Biomarker in Patients Taking Sorafenib or Lenvatinib for Unresectable Hepatocellular Carcinoma. REPORTS 2021. Abstract
Background: This study investigated the impact of serum cytokeratin 19 fragment (CYFRA21-1) level on the clinical outcomes of patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with sorafenib (SOR) or lenvatinib (LEN). Methods: A total of 71 cases with unresectable HCC taking SOR or LEN were included. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify the prognostic factors in patients taking SOR or LEN. Results: Among the 71 patients taking SOR or LEN, the frequency of cases showing high CYFRA21-1 levels after administration increased compared to before the administration. There was no association between the CYFRA21-1 level and the result of treatment response using modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (mRECIST) 12 weeks after the administration. Univariate analysis identified a maximum intrahepatic tumor diameter of 70 mm or more, extrahepatic metastasis, baseline alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) ≥ 2000 ng/mL, baseline AFP-L3 index ≥ 15%, baseline des-gamma-carboxy prothrombin (DCP) ≥ 1000 mAU/mL, baseline CYFRA21-1 > 3.5 ng/mL, 12-week mRECIST progressive disease (PD), 12-week DCP ratio ≥ 4, 12-week CYFRA21-1 ratio ≥ 2, administration period less than 12 weeks, ALBI grade 3 at PD, and no additional treatment after discontinuation of SOR/LEN as prognostic factors. Multivariate analysis revealed that AFP-L3 index ≥ 15%, 12-week mRECIST PD, 12-week DCP ratio ≥ 4, 12-week CYFRA21-1 ratio ≥ 2, administration period less than 12 weeks, and no additional treatment after discontinuation of SOR/LEN were independent factors. Conclusions: Patients with a high CYFRA21-1 level at baseline tend to have poor prognosis, and patients with a high CYFRA21-1 ratio 12 weeks after administration have poor prognosis. Serum CYFRA21-1 measurement may have additional effects on prognostic prediction, and it may be necessary to pay close attention to the transition to the next HCC treatment in cases whose CYFRA21-1 level is high.

Many industrialized areas of the world demand for the nutraceuticals due to rapidly growing health risks linked with higher consumption of processed foods. Tateishi Kazu vegetable soup or miracle soup is widely consumed around the world because of its nutraceutical properties. In the current research, the Tateishi Kazu vegetable soup was made from both organic and nonorganic sources, such as carrot, burdock root, shiitake mushroom, daikon radish, and radish leaves. We analyzed colour, antioxidant properties, cell viability, and mineral and free amino acid contents of both soups. The L

b and pH values revealed no drastic changes in the colour of the organic soup stored for 96 hours. The essential amino acids were present in higher amounts in an organic soup compared to the nonorganic soup. Similarly, the total mineral contents of the organic soup were higher than the nonorganic soup; however, potassium was the major mineral in both soups. Higher phenolic contents with elevated 2,2-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity were noticed in organic soup. Moreover, both soups showed considerable reduction in cell viability of HepG2 cells tested through the MTT assay. From the present study, we concluded that the organic Tateishi Kazu vegetable soup can be of great importance to food industry due to the presence of viable nutrients and pharmacological properties.

Abstract
Background: Human polyomavirus BK virus (BKV) belongs to the Polyomaviridae family and seems to be a drastic virus in prostate cancer (PCa) etiology. BK virus induces oncogenesis via the expression of large tumor antigen (LTAg) and small tumor antigen (stAg). Also, BKV infection seems to play an essential role in prostate cancer development. Objectives: In this study was aimed to study the prevalence of BKV in benign and cancerous prostate tissues. Methods: In this study, 100 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissues of PCa specimens and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were collected. The DNA was extracted from tissue samples, and the BKV DNA was investigated using a semi-nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The MEGA 6.0 software was used for phylogenetic analysis to assemble the viral genome. A phylogenetic tree was constructed by neighbor-joining analysis with 1,000 replicates of the bootstrap resampling test. Results: The BKV DNA was found in 66% (33/50) of patients with PCa and 36% (18/50) of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) (P = 0.003). The frequency of BKV DNA in different classes of Gleason score (5 - 10) was not significant (0.094). The distribution of BKV DNA among different age groups was not significant (P = 0.086). Conclusions: High frequency of BKV infection was detected in patients with PCa compared to patients with BPH (P = 0.003), and the coexistence of BKV DNA was confirmed in 51% (51/100) of tissue samples, which were confirmed to be subtype 1 of BKV infection.

Abstract
Cancer incidence and mortality rate are growing worldwide. The effectiveness of cancer therapy depends on the degree of cancer development. Anticancer prevention, screening tests, detection of precancerous conditions or cancers at an early stage of development help to prevent the development of cancer, and in the event of cancer development, they provide the best chance for a full recovery. However, in most cases of advanced cancer, there is no method that can fully cure this disease. Recently, natural products have gained more attention in cancer therapy. Panax ginseng (PG), one of the most popular natural products, is reported to have a wide range of pharmacological activities in cancer. Therefore, the anti-cancer effects and mechanisms of PG and its metabolites (compound K, Ginsenoside Rh1, Rh2, Rh3 and F1) in five major cancers (lung cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer and stomach cancer) are reviewed in this study. It is confirmed that PG and its metabolites regulated apoptosis, epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT), angiogenesis, cell cycle arrest and multidrug resistance (MDR) in vitro and in vivo cancer models. In particular, ginsenoside Rh2 showed anticancer effects in all five major cancers. This review could improve the understanding of anticancer mechanisms of PG and its metabolites against major five cancers. Further clinical studies are needed for development anti-cancer drugs using PG and its metabolites.

Abstract
Introduction: We report outcomes of patients with oesophageal cancer treated with neoadjuvant
chemoradiotherapy (NACRT) plus surgery or definitive chemoradiotherapy (chemoRT) at our institution.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients who underwent chemoRT from 2005 to 2017. The
primary outcome was overall survival (OS). Secondary outcomes were disease-free survival (DFS)
and toxicities.
Results: We identified 96 patients with median age of 64 years and squamous cell carcinoma in
82.3%. Twenty-nine patients (30.2%) received NACRT plus surgery, 67 patients (69.8%) received
definitive chemoRT. Median follow-up was 13.5 months. The 3/5-year OS were 26.4%/13.4%,
and 59.6%/51.6% in the definitive chemoRT and NACRT plus surgery groups, respectively. The
3/5-year DFS were 19.3%/12.3%, and 55.7%/37.2% in the definitive chemoRT and NACRT plus
surgery groups, respectively. NACRT plus surgery significantly improved OS (hazard ratio [HR]
0.40, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.22–0.72, P<0.01) and DFS (subhazard ratio [SHR] 5.21, 95
CI 1.20–22.7, P=0.03). Multivariable analysis for OS in the definitive chemoRT group indicated
stage (1–2 vs 3–4a; HR 2.17, 95% CI 1.15–4.11, P=0.02) and feeding tube (no tube versus tube; HR
1.85, 95% CI 1.00–3.43, P=0.05) as significantly associated with OS. The cumulative incidence of local
recurrence was significantly higher in the definitive chemoRT group (SHR 5.21, 95 CI 1.2022.7,
P=0.03). Nineteen patients (65.5%) had postoperative complications.
Conclusion: NACRT plus surgery improved OS and DFS. However, in view of treatment-related
complications, careful selection of patients is warranted. With the predominant histology of our cohort
being squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), our results may be more re levant for those with SCC.

Abstract
Background: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common malignant tumor of the kidney. This tumor originates from the epithelial cells of the renal tubules and is located mainly in the cortical region of the kidney. It constitutes approximately 90% of all kidney malignancies and 2% of all cancers in adults. Objectives: The present study was conducted to determine the prevalence of RCC and its histological subtypes in samples sent to the Pathology Department of Kabul University of Medical Sciences and City Laboratory. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study of 81 nephrectomy and partial nephrectomy samples registered in the laboratory of the Pathology Department of Kabul University of Medical Sciences and City Medical laboratory database from March 2016 to August 2020. Results: A total of 81 samples were included in this study. The mean and standard deviation (SD) age of the patients was 44.4 ± 20.5. Of 81 samples, 62 (76.6%) were malignant kidney tumors, 13 (16.0%) were inflammatory kidney disease, 4 (4.9%) were polycystic kidney disease, and 2 (2.5%) were benign kidney tumors. Among 62 cases of malignant kidney tumor, 53 (85.48%) were RCC. The high incidence of RCC was in the age group of 56 to 65 years with a mean of 52.2 years; 56.60% of RCC cases were male and 43.39% were female. Based on the histological studies, 75.47% were clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) type, followed by 18.86% papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC), and 6% chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (ChRCC). Conclusions: Most common malignant tumor of the kidney in the samples included in this study was RCC in the age group of 56 to 65 years and it was more frequent among men compared to women, whereas the most common histological subtype was ccRCC. The findings are in concordance with international literature.

Background: Due to the growing prevalence of cancer globally, the disease is considered one of the most important sources of stress, disability, and reduced life satisfaction. Although life satisfaction is supposed to be a relatively stable psychological construct, it may change in response to life events. Life-satisfaction is the assessment of the quality of life according to one’s chosen criteria. Objectives: The purpose of this research is the psychometric evaluation of the Persian version of “Brief Multidimensional Life Satisfaction Scale” (BMLSS) in Iranian patients with cancer. Methods: The present study was a methodological research, during which the BMLSS was translated and the Farsi version was validated for patients with cancer. Results: The fit indices of confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the dual dimension of the BMLSS. Regarding the convergent validity of the BMLSS, the total score of the instrument had a positive and significant relationship with age and the sense of religiosity. Cronbach's alpha and Intraclass Correlation were calculated. Conclusions: The findings indicated that this Persian version has good validity and reliability and can be used as a comprehensive instrument in Iran.

Abstract
In this work, we pursued the biological characterization of the venom of Montivipera bornmuelleri, a viper from the Lebanese mountains. In relation to its antibacterial potential, the inhibitory effect of this venom on the F1F0-ATPase enzymes of Gram-positive Staphylocoocus epidermidis and Gram-negative Escherichia coli bacteria was examined. In order to determine the degree of cytotoxicity of the venom on the HCT116 human colon cancer cell lines, the biological MTT proliferation and cell viability test were implemented. After validation of the enzymatic F1F0-ATPase model by the spectrophotometric method, using quercetin as the reference ligand, results revealed that M. bornmuelleri venom is able to inhibit the activity of the enzyme of these two bacteria with a concentration of the order of 100–150 µg/mL. In addition, a venom concentration of 10 µg/mL was sufficient to kill the totality of HCT116 cell lines cultivated in vitro. These data show that M. bornmuelleri venom is a mixture of diverse molecules presenting activities of interest, and is a potential source to explore in order to discover new drug candidates.

Abstract
Dormancy is a key survival strategy in many organisms across the tree of life. Organisms that utilize some type of dormancy (hibernation, aestivation, brumation, diapause, and quiescence) are able to survive in habitats that would otherwise be uninhabitable. Induction into dormant states is typically caused by environmental stress. While organisms are dormant, their physical activity is minimal, and their metabolic rates are severely depressed (hypometabolism). These metabolic reductions allow for the conservation and distribution of energy while conditions in the environment are poor. When conditions are more favorable, the organisms are then able to come out of dormancy and reengage in their environment. Polyaneuploid cancer cells (PACCs), proposed mediators of cancer metastasis and resistance, access evolutionary programs and employ dormancy as a survival mechanism in response to stress. Quiescence, the type of dormancy observed in PACCs, allows these cells the ability to survive stressful conditions (e.g., hypoxia in the microenvironment, transiting the bloodstream during metastasis, and exposure to chemotherapy) by downregulating and altering metabolic function, but then increasing metabolic activities again once stress has passed. We can gain insights regarding the mechanisms underlying PACC dormancy by looking to the evolution of dormancy in different organisms.

Abstract
Most of the critically ill novel coronavirus 2019 pneumonia (NCP) patients progress promptly, and soon match the ARDS diagnostic criteria. When mechanical ventilation and prone position cannot reverse the fatal hypoxia—extra-corporeal-membrane-oxygenation (ECMO) will be applied as a salvage treatment if available. Here, we report a novel coronavirus 2019 pneumonia (NCP) patient, a male, 67 years old, who was treated with ECMO for 30 days. In the midst, bronchoscopy was utilized to comprehend the airway lesions and clear secretions. And computed tomography (CT) scans were performed before and after the treatment of ECMO. In the recovering phase of his disease, the patient experienced multiple times pneumothorax on both sides. Some newly developed lung bullae in the subpleural area and modest bronchiectasis were found by the CT scan. The newly developed lung bullae was the probable cause of pneumothorax. Notably, in the whole process of his illness, the serum IL-6 only had a slight elevation in the early period, there is no typical cytokine storm as that was seen in non-COVID-19 ARDS. After 3-months meticulous treatment, the patient made a full recovery and now is discharged from our hospital. Though COVID-19 may not cause typical cytokine storm, the inflammation in lung may inflict severe damage to lung. Severe NCP may cause lung bullae and bronchiectasis, making the patients hard to be weaned from mechanical ventilation or ECMO.

Abstract
Accelerated cancer cell growth requires a massive intake of amino acids. Overexpression of L-type (large) amino acid transporter 1 (LAT1) on the cancer cell membrane facilitates such a demand, which is limited in normal organs. Therefore, LAT1 overexpression is ideal as a molecular cancer therapeutic target. JPH203, a LAT1-selective non-transportable blocker, had demonstrated LAT1 inhibition in <10 µM IC50 values and effectively suppressed cancer cell growth in studies involving several types of cancer cell lines and tumor xenograft models. A limited phase I clinical trial was performed on five different solid tumors and showed that JPH203 is well-tolerated and has a promising activity for the treatment of bile duct cancer. This review details the development and prospect of JPH203 as a LAT1-targeting cancer therapy.

Abstract
Objective This pilot study assesses the feasibility of using mystery patients to evaluate cervical cancer screenings provided to women in rural Bolivia.
Methods We developed a protocol with local officials and adapted and pre-tested a debriefing tool. Eight mystery patients with existing appointments at four purposively selected rural facilities were recruited and trained. An interviewer debriefed patients after their screenings, and entered responses into a spreadsheet for analysis. Ques- tionnaire response frequencies and missing observations were presented.
Results All patients completed screening and debriefing. On average, 93% of the questions were completed, with non-responses largely due to questions that were irrelevant to the screening venue. Responses revealed problems with confidentiality and dignity, minimal exam explanations or health education, inconsistencies across health facilities in Papanicolaou test availability, and problems in delivering and receiving test results.
Conclusion Our findings suggest that the mystery patient method can be useful in evaluating the quality of cervical cancer screening and the delivery of test results in rural Bolivia.

Objective
To explore the expression and genotypes of thymidylate synthase (TS) in patients of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with different clinicopathological characteristics.
Methods
The expression profiles of TS were examined by immunohistochemical staining and quantitative real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) in 160 patients with NSCLC. Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) was used to detect TS-5′UTR tandem repeats, G/C nucleotide polymorphisms, and 3′UTR 6 bp deletion/insertion polymorphisms. The relationships between clinicopathological characteristics and TS expression or genotypes were investigated through χ
2 test. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis was used to analyze the association between TS expression and overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) of NSCLC patients.
Results
The expression levels of TS protein and TS gene in NSCLC tissues were significantly higher than that in paracancerous tissues (P < 0.05). Furthermore, high expression of TS protein and 5′UTR polymorphism of TS gene showed significant correlation with differentiation, TNM stage, and lymph node metastases. The frequency of −6 bp/−6 bp genotypes in patients with NSCLC was 43.13% (69/160), which was higher than others. In addition, the rate of TS protein overexpression in NSCLC patients with 3R/3R was 79.79%, which was higher than others. Interestingly, high expression of TS protein predicted shorter DFS and OS and lower 3-year DFS rate and 3-year OS rate.
Conclusions
The expression levels of TS in NSCLC were significantly increased and may help to predict the prognosis of NSCLC, and high expression of TS protein and 5′UTR polymorphism of TS gene were significantly related to differentiation, TNM stage, and lymph node metastases.

Abstract
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has cause major disruption to daily life in the United Kingdom in 2020. The national lockdown and mobilization of healthcare resources to areas with increased demand has resulted in a historical shift in referral, diagnostic and surgical capabilities in most healthboards. This regional, retrospective study aimed to shed light on the potential consequences of the UK national lockdown, the resultant decrease in referrals and diagnostic capacity on surgical services and patients during the recovery phase. Methods: Urgent referrals for suspected (USC) prostate cancer ( N =1430) from primary care in the north-east of Scotland and the number of diagnostic prostate biopsies performed in the region were reviewed to assess trends between January 2018 and December 2020. The data was anonymized and charted to highlight the differences between the period of national lockdown and other times. Results: The number of USC referrals for prostate cancer dropped significantly between March 2020 and June 2020 (a mean of 25 per month from 45 per month in the same period in 2018 and 2019). The number of diagnostic procedures also decreased significantly, with 74 fewer biopsies having been performed during the lockdown period compared with the same period in 2019. Conclusions: The shifts in USC referrals and diagnostics during the lockdown period have led to a backlog which may put patients at risk of cancer stage migration, leading to increased morbidity and mortality. This study indicates that reestablishment of surgical services should take priority during the recovery phase. Level of evidence: 3

Abstract
Introducción. La cirugía para extirpación de metástasis en un cuello previamente intervenido afronta un reto para lograr una resección exitosa. El presente estudio pretende demostrar la utilidad de la técnica de inyección de azul de metileno, guiada por ecografía, para la localización intraoperatoria de lesiones recurrentes en cáncer de tiroides, para facilitar su resección.
Métodos. Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo y retrospectivo, en pacientes reintervenidos por recurrencia de carcinoma diferenciado de tiroides, durante un periodo de dos años y medio. Se utilizó la inyección intratumoral de azul de metileno guiada por ecografía para su identificación intraoperatoria de recurrencia. Se hizo análisis de variables demográficas y clínicas.
Resultados. Este estudio incluyó 10 procedimientos en 9 pacientes, 77,8 % mujeres, con una media de edad de 54 años. Todos tenían un nivel de tiroglobulina detectable y elevado antes de la intervención; posteriormente, el 89 % presentó un descenso y el 33 % una adecuada respuesta bioquímica. La técnica agregó 10 minutos al tiempo quirúrgico. En el 100 % se identificaron de manera intraoperatoria los ganglios marcados; el promedio de ganglios resecados fue de 12, de los cuales, 6 fueron positivos, todos con carcinoma papilar de tiroides. Esta técnica se consideró de gran utilidad y de bajo costo en todos los casos.
Discusión. Esta técnica se muestra como una estrategia efectiva para la identificación intraoperatoria de las recurrencias locorregionales en carcinoma de tiroides, permitiendo una disección ganglionar exitosa, disminuyendo complicaciones, tiempo quirúrgico y, especialmente, costos frente a otras intervenciones

Propensity score matching (PSM) has been widely used to mitigate confounding in observational studies, although complications arise when the covariates used to estimate the PS are only partially observed. Multiple imputation (MI) is a potential solution for handling missing covariates in the estimation of the PS. However, it is not clear how to best apply MI strategies in the context of PSM. We conducted a simulation study to compare the performances of popular non-MI missing data methods and various MI-based strategies under different missing data mechanisms. We found that commonly applied missing data methods resulted in biased and inefficient estimates, and we observed large variation in performance across MI-based strategies. Based on our findings, we recommend 1) estimating the PS after applying MI to impute missing confounders; 2) conducting PSM within each imputed dataset followed by averaging the treatment effects to arrive at one summarized finding; 3) a bootstrapped-based variance to account for uncertainty of PS estimation, matching, and imputation; and 4) inclusion of key auxiliary variables in the imputation model.

Abstract
The molecular pathways which promote lung cancer cell features have been broadly explored, leading to significant improvement in prognostic and diagnostic strategies. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have dramatically altered the treatment approach for patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Latest investigations by using next-generation sequencing (NGS) have shown that other oncogenic driver mutations, believed mutually exclusive for decades, could coexist in EGFR-mutated NSCLC patients. However, the exact clinical and pathological role of concomitant genomic aberrations needs to be investigated. In this systematic review, we aimed to summarize the recent data on the oncogenic role of concurrent genomic alterations, by specifically evaluating the characteristics, the pathological significance, and their potential impact on the treatment approach.

Abstract
The objective of this research was to prove whether miR-490-3p regulated the propagation, migration, and invasion of lung tumor cells using targeting sequence similarity as family 83F (FAM83F). The gene expression of miR-490-3p and FAM83F of human embryonic lung fibroblasts (HELF) and
lung cancer cells (A549, H1299, 95D) were analyzed using real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction PCR (RT-qPCR) and western blot. Analysis of the targeted relationship of miR-490-3P with FAM83F was performed through double luciferase reporting assays with the
addition of western blotting. The impacts of miR-490-3p and FAM83F gene expression were tested by cell counting kits (CCK-8), a scraping healing test, and a transwell test on the proliferation activity, scratch healing rate, and the numbers of migrating and invading A549 cells. Impacts of
miR-490-3P and FAM83F expressions on the phosphorylated protein kinase B’ (p-AKT) expression were tested with western blotting. miR-490-3P gene expressions in A549 were observably less expressed compared to that of HELF cells, but the mRNA and protein expressions of FAM83F were observably
greater than those in HELF (P < 0.05), which indicates that miR-490-3p-bound FAM83F regulates the expression of FAM83F immediately and negatively. After up-regulating miR-490-3p expression or down-regulating FAM83F expression, the proliferation activity, rate of wound-healing, the
numbers of migrating and invading cells, and p-AKT protein expression of A549 cells were observably reduced (P < 0.05). Compared to upregulation of miR-490-3p, the propagation activity, wound-healing rate, numbers of migrating and invading cells, and expression of the P-Akt protein
of A549 cells were significantly decreased after the upregulation of miR-490-3p and FAM83F (P < 0.05). MiR-490-3p observably inhibited migration and invasion in lung cancer cells with negatively regulating expression of FAM83F, and the mechanisms might be relevant to restraining
the AKT pathway.

Abstract
Approximately 20-30% of all cervical cancer cases are adenocarcinoma and adenosquamous carcinoma. Around 70% of all of these types of cancer are related to infection of Human Papillomavirus (HPV). This study evaluated the distribution of HPV genotype in cervical adenocarcinoma and adenosquamous carcinoma. A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Department of Anatomic Pathology, Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia, from January to December 2015. The sample were 22 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) of cervical adenocarcinoma tissues and adenosquamous carcinoma tissues. FFPE was used for DNA extraction and followed with HPV genotyping to detect 40 genotypes of HPV, including low risk (LR) and high risk (HR) HPV. The histopathological types of adenocarcinomas were adenocarcinoma NOS and mucinous adenocarcinoma, while the adenosquamous carcinoma types were adenosquamous carcinoma and adenosquamous carcinoma glassy. All of the specimens were infected by HPV. In cervical adenocarcinoma, the infection was by HPV 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 45, 68B, and 72, and in adenosquamous carcinoma by HPV 6, 16, 18, 45, and 59. HPV 18 was predominant, which was found in 13/22 (59.1%) in adenocarcinoma and 19/22 (86.4%) in adenosquamous carcinoma. Single infection and multiple infections in adenocarcinoma were 13/22 (59.1%) and 9/22 (40.9%), while in adenosquamous carcinoma were 21/22 (95.5%) and 1/22 (4.5%) respectively. The most common HR HPVs found in this study were HPV 18, HPV 45, HPV 16 and LR HPV are HPV 11, HPV 6.
