Abstract
The reactions of the title complex (1) with different p-block element (E) molecules was examined. Compound 1 reacted with BH3·THF at room temperature to give the trihydride [W2Cp2(μ-H)H2(μ-PPh2)(NO)2], which formally results from hydrogenation of 1, a reaction that actually does not take place when neat dihydrogen is used. Clean E-H bond oxidative addition, however, took place when 1 was reacted with HSnPh3, to give the related dihydride stannyl derivative [W2Cp2(μ-H)H(μ-PPh2)(NO)2(SnPh3)]. In contrast, the reaction of 1 with HSPh involved H2 elimination to give the thiolate-bridged complex [W2Cp2(μ-SPh)(μ-PPh2)(NO)2], while that with (p-tol)C(O)H resulted in insertion of the aldehyde to yield the related alkoxide complex [W2Cp2{μ-OCH2(p-tol)}(μ-PPh2)(NO)2]. Insertion also prevailed in the reactions of 1 with CNtBu, which, however, involved the competitive formation of new C-H or N-H bonds, to give a mixture of formimidoyl and aminocarbyne derivatives, [W2Cp2(μ-κ1:η2-HCNtBu)(μ-PPh2)(NO)2] (W-W = 3.0177(2) Å) and [W2Cp2{μ-C(NHtBu)}(μ-PPh2)(NO)2] (W-W = 2.9010(4) Å), respectively, even though the latter was thermodynamically preferred, according to density functional theory calculations. The former represents the first structurally characterized complex displaying a formimidoyl or iminoacyl ligand in the alkenyl-like μ-κ1:η2 coordination mode. The reaction of 1 with diazomethane proceeded with N2 elimination and C-H coupling to yield the agostic methyl-bridged complex [W2Cp2(μ-κ1:η2-CH3)(μ-PPh2)(NO)2] (calculated W-W = 2.923 Å), whereas the reaction with N2CH(SiMe3) proceeded with insertion of the diazoalkane to give the corresponding hydrazonide complex [W2Cp2{μ-NH(NCHSiMe3)}(μ-PPh2)(NO)2] (W-W = 2.8608(4) Å). The latter was converted under alkaline conditions to the methyldiazenide derivative [W2Cp2{μ-N(NMe)}(μ-PPh2)(NO)2] (W-W = 2.8730(2) Å), in a process involving hydrolysis of the C-Si bond coupled with a 1,3-H shift from N to C.

Abstract
The reaction of the electronically unsaturated (56 valence electrons, ve) tetrahedral cluster [Re4(mu3-H)4(CO)12] (1) with pyridazine (pydz) gives as the main initial product the tetranuclear cluster [Re4(mu-H)4(mu-pydz)(pydz)2(CO)12] (2a), with 64 ve and four hydrogen-bridged metal-metal interactions, with a spiked-triangle geometry. One of the three pydz ligands bridges, in a cis configuration, the cluster edge opposite to the vertex bearing the spike, as indicated by the X-ray single-crystal analysis. This species slowly decomposes, affording the dinuclear unsaturated (32 ve) complex [Re2(mu-H)2(mu-pydz)(CO)6] (3a) and two isomers of the tetranuclear cluster [Re4(mu-H)4(mu-pydz)2(CO)12] (64 ve), sharing an unusual square cluster geometry and differing in the trans (major, 85%, 4a) or cis (4a') configuration of the bridging pydz ligands. The structures of 3a and 4a have been ascertained by X-ray analysis, while the characterization of 4a' was hampered by its instability (slowly transforming into 3a in THF solution). Both the dimer and the square cluster 4a are also formed directly (and quickly) from 1, being present in solution since the beginning of the reaction. Cluster 4a is the main final reaction product. The reaction with phthalazine follows a similar course, with some differences in the relative amount of the final products 3b and 4b. Most of the novel complexes are able to emit light in solution at room temperature, and photophysical measurements were performed in CH2Cl2 solution on the main stable reaction products (i.e., the dinuclear species 3a and 3b and the trans square clusters 4a and 4b). The emission was in the range of 580-645 nm, from MLCT excited states, with lifetimes on the order of a hundred nanoseconds (50-473 ns). The quantum yields were 1 order of magnitude higher for the squares (1.7 and 1.3% for 4a and 4b, respectively, in CH2Cl2) than for the dinuclear complexes ( approximately 0.1%). In the case of 4a, a blue shift and an increase of the emission intensity were observed upon decreasing the solvent polarity.

Abstract
A novel one-dimensional (1D) heterometallic chain, [[Rh(2)(dfpma)(2)(MeCN)(4)](2)[Ag(MeCN)(4)]][PF(6)](5) (1), is afforded from the in situ reaction of [ClRh(cod)](2) with [Ag(MeCN)(4)][PF(6)] and dfpma (dfpma = bis(difluorophosphine)methylamine). Dichroic crystals, which are obtained from MeCN/Et(2)O solutions, crystallize in the monoclinic space group C2/m with a = 13.570(5) A, b = 20.895(9) A, c = 13.810(6) A, beta = 104.904(7) degrees, V = 3784(3) A(3), Z = 4. X-ray diffraction studies reveal an asymmetric unit comprising two Rh(I)(2) dimers and a square planar Ag(I) cation; this subunit propagates to form a 1D heterometallic chain. Compound 1 displays novel spectroscopic properties in the solid state, including temperature-dependent luminescence.
