Abstract
Substituted alkenes, crucial in organic chemistry, are typically accessed from internal alkynes by using transition-metal catalysis. Herein, we report a novel approach to the Lewis acid-catalyzed synthesis of trisubstituted alkenes bearing a quaternary carbon from internal alkynols and 2-pyrrolyl arylamines. This method involves allene formation followed by intramolecular [5 + 1] annulation to furnish a diverse range of trisubstituted alkenes with excellent regioselectivity and poor diastereoselectivity. Further, we demonstrated the gram-scale synthesis and synthetic transformations and proposed the reaction mechanism based on the isolation of intermediates.

Abstract

Aldehyde-derived
imidazolidines participate as hydride donors in
intramolecular reductive Heck-type reactions. N,N′-Diphenylimidazolidines prepared from ortho-alkynyl benzaldehydes underwent regio- and stereoselective palladium-catalyzed
hydroarylation followed by formal 1,5-hydride transfer and reductive
elimination to afford substituted alkenes and imidazolium moieties,
the latter conveniently converted in situ to ring-opened benzanilides
to simplify product isolation. Internal alkynes were converted to
trisubstituted alkenes via a syn hydroarylation process,
while a terminal alkyne was converted to a cis alkene
via a formal trans hydroarylation reaction. Benzanilide
products could be converted to carboxylic acid derivatives under basic
conditions, resulting in the net conversion of alkynyl aldehydes to
alkenyl carboxylic acids. A styrene derivative with an attached N,N′-dimethylbenzimidazoline hydride
donor was also found to undergo an analogous hydroarylation/benzimidazoline
oxidation to give a diarylethane product.

Abstract
A method for Ni-catalyzed hydroalkylation of internal alkynes with cycloketone oxime esters was developed. The reaction has a broad substrate scope. This hydroalkylation shows excellent regio- and stereo-selectivity. This method enables readily available starting materials to be used to access a range of cyano-substituted single-configuration trisubstituted alkenes. These are valuable feedstock chemicals and are widely used in synthetic and medicinal chemistry.

Abstract
An operationally simple nickel-catalyzed hydroarylation reaction for alkynes is described. This three-component coupling reaction utilizes commercially available alkynes and aryl bromides, along with water and Zn. An air-stable and easily synthesized Ni(II) precatalyst is the only entity used in the reaction that is not commercially available. This reductive cross-coupling reaction displays a fairly unusual anti selectivity when aryl bromides with ortho substituents are used. In addition to optimization data and a preliminary substrate scope, complementary experiments including deuterium labeling studies are used to provide a tentative catalytic mechanism. We believe this report should inspire and inform other Ni-catalyzed carbofunctionalization reactions.
