Abstract
This study introduces a novel approach to inverse vulcanization by utilizing a commercially available triaziridine crosslinker as an alternative to conventional olefin-based crosslinkers. The model reactions reveal a self-catalyzed ring-opening of "unactivated" aziridine with elemental sulfur, forming oligosulfide-functionalized diamines. The triaziridine-derived polysulfides exhibit impressive mechanical properties, achieving a maximum stress of ~8.3 MPa and an elongation at break of ~107 %. The incorporation of silicon dioxide (20 wt %) enhances the composite's rigidity, yielding a Young's modulus of ~0.94 GPa. Furthermore, these polysulfides display excellent adhesion strength on various substrates, such as aluminum (~7.0 MPa), walnut (~9.6 MPa), and steel (~11.0 MPa), with substantial retention of adhesion strength (~3.3 MPa on steel) at -196 °C. The straightforward synthetic process, combined with the accessibility of the triaziridine crosslinker, emphasizes the potential for further innovations in sulfur polymer chemistry.

Abstract
An operationally simple and highly efficient synthesis of functionalized thiophenes has been developed by LiBr promoted heteroannulation of β-ketodithioesters and thioamides with bench-stable sulfoxonium ylides in open air for the first time. This one-pot strategy involves formal Csp3-H bond insertion/intramolecular cyclization cascade, featuring readily accessible starting materials, TM and additive-free condition, broad substrate scope, high functional group compatibility, and scalability. Moreover, the carbonyl, thiomethyl, and amino groups in the resulting thiophene provide a good handle on downstream transformations.

Abstract
A cost-effective, practical, straightforward and scalable synthesis of α-pyrones via base- and sulfur-promoted annulation of phenylacetates and chalcones is reported. Generated in situ from the starting components by using dbu as a base catalyst, the Michael adducts underwent a smooth oxidative cyclization into 3,4,6-triaryl-2-pyranones upon heating with DABCO and sulfur in DMSO. Extension to malonate in place of phenylacetates led to 4,6-diaryl-2-pyranone-2-carboxylates.

Abstract
Furan is an important heterocyclic scaffold in natural product, bioorganic, and medicinal chemistry as well as in materials science. The system S8/DABCO/DMSO was found to efficiently mediate the oxidative cyclization of 1,2,3,5-tetraarylpentan-1-ones A, which were obtained in situ as the Michael adducts of chalcones 1 and deoxybenzoins 2, to furan 3. The strategy provided convenient and direct access to tetrasubstituted furans 3 from readily available starting materials with high functional group tolerance.

Abstract
Pollution and the rising energy demand have prompted the design of new synthetic reactions that meet the principles of green chemistry. In particular, alternative synthesis of 2-aminothiophene have recently focused interest because 2-aminothiophene is a unique 5-membered S-heterocycle and a pharmacophore providing antiprotozoal, antiproliferative, antiviral, antibacterial or antifungal properties. Here, we review new synthetic routes to 2-aminothiophenes, including multicomponent reactions, homogeneously- or heterogeneously-catalyzed reactions, with focus on green pathways.

Abstract
Herein, we report an elemental sulfur-promoted switchable redox condensation reaction that can selectively prepare 2-aminofurans and 2-aminothiophenes from the corresponding enaminones and methylene nitriles, respectively. Mechanistic studies demonstrated that the enaminones, as dual nucleophiles, reacted with nitrile acetate to produce 2-aminofurans via 3,5-annulation under promotion by elemental sulfur. These reactions used readily available starting materials, transition metal-free, eco-friendly procedures, gram-scale syntheses, and wide functional group tolerance. The methodology may be useful for the construction of 2-aminofuran and 2-aminothiophene derivatives with potential biological activity.

Abstract
A protocol was described for obtaining a variety of substituted thiophenes with functional potential via metal-free dehydration and sulfur cyclization of alkynols with elemental sulfur (S8) or EtOCS2K in moderate-to-good yields. The method provides the base-free generation of a trisulfur radical anion (S3•-) and its addition to alkynes as an initiator. This research broadens the applications of S3•- in the synthesis of sulfur-containing heterocycles.

Abstract
Although the Gewald reaction was well-known for more than half a century as an excellent method providing bioactive 2-aminothiophenes from reactions of α-cyanoacetates and carbonyl compounds and elemental sulfur, its application to dibenzoylmethanes as the carbonyl substrates was, however, unknown and experimentally proven unsuccessful. We propose here a convenient approach to such a series of compounds by a DABCO-catalyzed, one-pot, two-step, three-component reaction of α-cyanoacetate with chalcones and elemental sulfur. This catalytic strategy is highlighted by its excellent atom/step efficiency and high degree of structural diversification by simply choosing the suitable starting chalcones, which are unarguably much more readily available than dibenzoylmethanes.

Abstract
An N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-catalyzed strategy has been developed to address the issue of using toxic transitional metals in the field of C-C bond activation. The novel reaction mode enables an efficient docking between the cyanoalkyl from the cycloketone oxime derivative and the acyl group from the aldehyde, affording ketonitrile in moderate to good yields, which is one kind of useful building block for synthesizing nitrogen-containing pharmacophores.

Abstract
Chalcones were found to undergo sulfurative dimerization with elemental sulfur to tetrasubstituted 1,3-dithioles. The reaction was found to proceed at room temperature in the presence of a nitrogen-base catalyst in DMSO.

Abstract

Multicomponent
Petasis reaction has been widely applied for the synthesis of functionalized
amine building blocks and biologically active compounds. Employing
primary aromatic amines that are not typical reactive substrates contributes
to expand the application scope of the Petasis reaction. In this study,
we demonstrated the synthesis of functionalized 2-aminothiophenes
using Gewald-reaction-derived 2-aminothiophenes as the amine substrates,
whose low reactivity in the Petasis reaction was overcome using hexafluoro-2-propanol
as the solvent in a mild condition. The obtained Petasis products
are amenable for further transformations owing to the presence of
multiple functional handles. A following intramolecular cyclization
of selected Petasis products afforded substituted tricyclic heterocycles
that incorporate a pharmaceutically interesting thienodiazepine moiety.

Abstract
The synthesis of sulfur heterocycles via the construction of C–S bonds has received considerable attention due to their biological value and extensive pharmaceutical application. While diverse sulfurating agents have been developed over the past few decades, in this regard, elemental sulfur, with advantages of low toxicity, odorless nature and chemical stability, has great potential for the construction of diverse sulfur heterocycles through its direct incorporation into the target molecules in a concise way. Direct functionalization of inert C–H bonds can shorten the number of reaction steps and minimize the amount of waste formed. Hence, heteroannulations via direct C–H sulfuration is considered to be an attractive strategy for the synthesis of sulfur heterocycles. In the last few years, a vast array of concise systems have been reported for the synthesis of some valuable sulfur heterocycles such as thiophenes, thienoindoles, thienothiazoles, thiazoles, benzothiazoles, and thiadiazoles through direct C–H sulfuration/annulations with elemental sulfur. These are discussed in detail in this review.1 Introduction2 Thiophenes3 Thienoindoles4 Thienothiazoles5 Other Fused Thiophenes6 Thiazoles7 Benzothiazoles8 Thiadiazoles9 Others10 Summary and Outlook
