Abstract
The Ullmann coupling and oxidative coupling dehydrogenation reactions have occurred sequentially, catalyzed by Pd(OAc)2, which unexpectedly yielded fused imidazo[1,2-f]phenanthridine derivatives in good to high yields. Structural analysis of the intermediate and final products indicated that the protocol did not include C-H and N-H arylation.

Abstract
In this work, we report a protocol for the synthesis of an indoloquinolinone skeleton using visible light-induced energy transfer. This method avoids the premodification of substrates and exhibits high yields. For gram-scale reactions, only 0.01 mol % (100 ppm) of photosensitizer is required for rapid conversion. Mechanistic studies revealed that this reaction differs from conventional 6π photocyclization reactions; undergoing a process involving 6π cyclization due to energy transfer and dehydrogenation due to product self-catalysis has been experienced.

Abstract
The Mallory reaction, which involves the photocyclization of stilbenes/diarylethenes and their analogues into polycyclic aromatics, is of significant synthetic importance. However, its application to tertiary benzanilides has not been explored to date. Besides, most of the reported Mallory reactions require ultraviolet irradiation. In this study, we show the first Mallory reaction of tertiary benzanilides promoted by visible light via iminium intermediates formed in situ from tertiary benzanilide, Tf2O (triflic anhydride) and pyridine. UV/vis absorption spectroscopy combined with density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that the formation of the iminium intermediate decreased the HOMO-LUMO energy gap, thereby enhancing visible light absorption. This study provides a rapid and practical approach for the preparation of the phenanthridinone skeleton and provides a new idea for the design of new visible light photoswitches.

Abstract
Phenanthridinone is a significant moiety in pharmaceutical and material science; thus, it is highly desirable to develop an efficient and robust method to construct phenanthridinone from readily available starting materials. Herein, we report a Ru-catalyzed C-H arylation of aromatic carboxylic acids with ortho-haloanilines, followed by intramolecular dehydration to afford phenanthridinones in high yields.

Improvement of catalytic activity of aluminum complexes for the ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone: aluminum thioamidate and thioureidate systems. Dalton Trans 2023; 52:17132-17147. Abstract
In this study, a series of Al complexes bearing amidates, thioamidates, ureidates, and thioureidates were synthesized and their catalytic activity for ε-caprolactone (CL) polymerization was evaluated. SPr-Al exhibited a higher catalytic activity than OPr-Al (3.2 times as high for CL polymerization; [CL] : [SPr-Al] : [BnOH] = 100 : 0.5 : 2; [SPr-Al] = 10 mM, conv. = 93% after 14 min at 25 °C), and USCl-Al exhibited a higher catalytic activity than UCl-Al (4.6 times as high for CL polymerization; [CL] : [USCl-Al] : [BnOH] = 100 : 0.5 : 2; [USCl-Al] = 10 mM, conv. = 90% after 15 min at 25 °C). Regardless of whether aluminum amidates or ureidates were present, thioligands improved the polymerization rate of aluminum catalysts. Density functional theory calculations revealed that the eight-membered ring [SPr-AlOMe2]2 decomposed into the four-membered ring SPr-AlOMe2. However, [OPr-AlOMe2]2 did not decompose because of its strong bridging Al-O bond. The overall activation energy required for CL polymerization was lower when using [SPr-AlOMe2]2 (18.1 kcal mol-1) as a catalyst than when using [OPr-AlOMe2]2 (23.9 kcal mol-1). This is because the TS2a transition state of SPr-AlOMe2 had a more open coordination geometry with a small N-Al-S angle (72.91°) than did TS3c of [OPr-AlOMe2]2, the crowded highest-energy transition state of [OPr-AlOMe2]2 with a larger N-Al-O angle (99.63°).

Abstract
By photoinduced 6π-electrocyclization of 2-(benzofuran-2-yl)-3-phenylpyridine derivatives 1, a method for the synthesis of trans-dihydrobenzo[f]quinolines 2, cis-dihydrobenzo[f]quinolines 3 and 8b-methyl-1,8b-dihydrobenzo[f]quinolines 4 was developed. Irradiation of 2-(benzofuran-2-yl)-3-phenylpyridine 1 in acetone-H2O (5 : 1, v/v) with a 313 nm UV lamp under an argon atmosphere at room temperature successfully yielded 2, which was further converted into 3 at elevated temperature (200 °C) in glycerol. However, irradiating 2-(3-methylbenzofuran-2-yl)-3-phenylpyridines 1 in CH2Cl2 with a 254 nm UV lamp gave 4 in good yields. The syntheses of 2, 3 and 4via the 6π-electrocyclization rearrangement of 1 not only offer high atom efficiency but also do not require transition metal catalysts or additives.

Abstract
Herein, a straightforward synthetic approach for the construction of phenanthridin-6(5H)-one skeletons is disclosed. The developed protocol relies on palladium catalysis, providing controlled access to a range of functionalized phenanthridin-6(5H)-ones in 59-88% yields. Furthermore, plausible reaction pathways are proposed based on mechanistic experiments.

Abstract
Due to the inert redox activity and high triplet energy, radical chemistry of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds usually requires prefunctionalization substrates, external oxidant, and high-energy UV light. Here, we report a visible-light-driven photocatalyst/cobaloxime system composed of a photosensitized energy transfer reaction (PEnT) and photoinduced electron transfer reaction (PET) and with an interrupted 6π-photocyclization/dehydrogenative aromatization in one pot to synthesize 10-phenanthrenols. Preliminary mechanistic studies revealed that fac-Ir(ppy)3 plays the dual roles of energy transfer catalysis for photocycloaddition via 1,2-biradical intermediates of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and photoredox/cobaloxime catalysis dehydrogenative aromatization of 1,4-biradical rather than the intermediates via 6π photocyclization in the tandem reaction. In contrast to previous well-established radical chemistry of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds, we provide a new strategy for the activation of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds under visible light catalysis, affording a novel cyclization strategy with extremely high atom economy for the synthesis of 10-phenanthrenols.
