Carbene‐Catalyzed Three‐Component Cascade Reaction of Benzofuran‐2‐ones and Enals: Construction of Spirobenzofuranone‐δ‐lactones

Recent Advances in NHC-Catalyzed Chemoselective Activation of Carbonyl Compounds

N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) catalysts have been employed as effective tools in the development of various reactions, which have made notable contributions in developing diverse reaction modes and generating significant functionalized molecules. This review provides an overview of the recent advancements in the chemo- and regioselective activation of different aldehydes using NHCs, categorized into five parts based on the different activation modes. A brief conclusion and outlook is provided to stimulate the development of novel activation modes for accessing functional molecules.

Diastereoselective synthesis of chroman bearing spirobenzofuranone scaffolds via oxa-Michael/1,6-conjugated addition of para-quinone methides with benzofuranone-type olefins

A simple and convenient cyclization of ortho-hydroxyphenyl-substituted para-quinone methides with benzofuran-2-one type active olefins via oxa-Michael/1,6-conjugated addition has been developed, which afforded an easy access to enriched functionalized chroman-spirobenzofuran-2-one scaffolds with good to excellent yields (up to 90%) and diastereoselectivities (up to >19 : 1 dr). This reaction provided an efficient method for constructing desired spirocyclic compounds combining both well-known heterocyclic pharmacophores chroman and benzofuran-2-one.
