Abstract
Thiourea S-oxides can be viewed as formal analogs of the currently unknown diamino-substituted Criegee intermediates (urea O-oxides). However, the preparation of such S-oxides is rather challenging, and the direct oxidation of thioureas typically only leads to formation of desulfurized products. Employing the accurate revDSD-PBEP86-D4 double hybrid density functional, it was found that the peracid mediated oxidation of thiourea S-oxides exhibits a lower reaction barrier than the oxidation of the corresponding thiourea itself in contrast to most other ordinary thioketones. The undesired overoxidation reactivity, which is associated with strong π-donation from the thiourea's nitrogen atoms, can be partially suppressed by introduction of bulky substituents and the utilization of protic solvents. In this regard, we managed to prepare two sterically encumbered thiourea S-oxides in isolated yields of 35-40 %. The S-oxides are stable in the solid state and in alcoholic solutions at room temperature for extended periods of time, but swiftly decompose in aprotic solvents by disproportionation. A dimesityl-substituted thiourea S-oxide complexed with residual mCBA could be characterized by means of X-ray crystallography, confirming the importance of hydrogen bonding in the stabilization of the amino-substituted C=S+ -O- moiety.

Abstract
The reactivity of the geminal frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) (F5 C2 )3 SnCH2 P(tBu)2 (1) was explored by reacting it with a variety of small molecules (PhOCN, PhNCS, PhCCH, tBuCCH, H3 CC(O)CH=CH2 , Ph[C(O)]2 Ph, PhN=NPh and Me3 SiCHN2 ), featuring polar or non-polar multiple bonds and/or represent α,β-unsaturated systems. While most adducts are formed readily, the binding of azobenzene requires UV-induced photoisomerization, which results in the highly selective complexation of cis-azobenzene. In the case of benzil, the reaction does not lead to the expected 1,2- or 1,4-addition products, but to the non-stereoselective (tBu)2 PCH2 -transfer to a prochiral keto function of benzil. All adducts of 1 were characterised by means of multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, elemental analyses and X-ray diffraction experiments.

Abstract
The geminal frustrated Lewis pair (F5 C2 )3 SnCH2 P(tBu)2 (1) reacted with N-sulfinylaniline PhNSO to afford the first sulfur monoxide adduct of a main group metal, (F5 C2 )3 SnCH2 P(tBu)2 ⋅SO (2), which contains a SnCPSO ring. The second product is a phenylnitrene adduct of 1. The surprising stability of 2 was compared with the stabilities of the so far inaccessible O2 and S2 adducts of 1. Attempts to prepare these from 1 and the elemental chalcogens (O2 , S8 , Se∞ , Te∞ ) led to four-membered SnCPE ring systems. Quantum-chemical investigations of 2 demonstrate the bond polarity of the SO unit to stabilize 2.

Abstract
S-Nitrosothiols (RSNOs) serve as air-stable reservoirs for nitric oxide in biology. While copper enzymes promote NO release from RSNOs by serving as Lewis acids for intramolecular electron-transfer, redox-innocent Lewis acids separate these two functions to reveal the effect of coordination on structure and reactivity. The synthetic Lewis acid B(C6 F5 )3 coordinates to the RSNO oxygen atom, leading to profound changes in the RSNO electronic structure and reactivity. Although RSNOs possess relatively negative reduction potentials, B(C6 F5 )3 coordination increases their reduction potential by over 1 V into the physiologically accessible +0.1 V vs. NHE. Outer-sphere chemical reduction gives the Lewis acid stabilized hyponitrite dianion trans-[LA-O-N=N-O-LA]2- [LA=B(C6 F5 )3 ], which releases N2 O upon acidification. Mechanistic and computational studies support initial reduction to the [RSNO-B(C6 F5 )3 ] radical anion, which is susceptible to N-N coupling prior to loss of RSSR.

Abstract
While (Ph2 CN2 )B(C6 F5 )3 is unstable, single electron transfer from Cp*2 Co affords the isolation of stable products [Cp*2 Co][Ph2 CNNHB(C6 F5 )3 ] 1 and [Cp*Co(C5 Me4 CH2 B(C6 F5 )3 )] 2. The analogous combination of Ph2 CN2 and BPh3 showed no evidence of adduct formation and yet single electron transfer from Cp*2 Cr affords the species [Cp*2 Cr][PhC(C6 H4 )NNBPh3 ] 3 and [Cp*2 Cr][Ph2 CNNHBPh3 ] 4. Computations showed both reactions proceed via transient radical anions of the diphenyldiazomethane-borane adducts to effect C-H bond activations.

Abstract
During our studies towards the preparation of the pentagonal-pyramidal hexamethylbenzene dication C6 (CH3 )62+ , we isolated the unprecedented dicationic species C6 (CH3 )6 SO2+ (AsF6- )2 from the reaction of hexamethylbenzene with a mixture of anhydrous HF, AsF5 , and liquid SO2 . This compound can be understood as a complex of unknown SO2+ with hexamethylbenzene. Herein, we report on its synthesis, molecular structure, and spectroscopic characterization.
