Abstract
Herein, we report a Cu-mediated trifluoromethylation of carbonyl-type compounds and unactivated olefins enabled by visible-light irradiation via σ C(sp3 )-C bond-functionalization. The reaction is distinguished by its modularity, mild conditions and wide scope-even in the context of late-stage functionalization-thus offering a complementary approach en route to valuable C(sp3 )-CF3 architectures from easily accessible precursors.

Abstract
Metallaphoto-catalysis has been established as a robust platform for efficient construction of a range of chemical bonds. Moreover, transformation of native functionalities such as C(sp3)-H bonds to produce functional molecules represents one of the most attractive strategies in organic synthesis. Merging two powerful methodologies, metallaphoto-catalyzed benzylic and allylic C(sp3)-H bond functionalizations provide a series of general and mild approaches for diversification of alkylbenzenes and alkenes.

Abstract
A novel copper-catalyzed carbonylative trifluoromethylation of unactivated alkenes has been developed. A broad range of β-trifluoromethylated carboxylic acid derivatives were prepared in moderate to excellent yields from simple alkenes with excellent regioselectivity. It is noteworthy that ethylene gas, as the simplest olefin, can also be applied directly to obtain β-trifluoromethylated amides and ester. This transformation presents the first example on carbonylative trifluoromethylation of alkenes.
