Abstract
Metallene is considered as an emerging family of electrocatalysts due to its atomically layered structure and unique surface stress. Here we propose a strategy to modulate the Bader charge transfer (BCT) between Pd surface and oxygenated intermediates via p-d electronic interaction by introducing single-atom p-block metal (M=In, Sn, Pb, Bi) into Pd metallene nanosheets towards efficient oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). X-ray absorption and photoelectron spectroscopy suggests that doping p-block metals could facilitate electron transfer to Pd sites and thus downshift the d-band center of Pd and weaken the adsorption energy of O intermediates. Among them, the developed Bi-Pd metallene shows extraordinarily high ORR mass activity of 11.34 A mgPd -1 and 0.86 A mgPd -1 at 0.9 V and 0.95 V in alkaline solution, respectively, representing the best Pd-based ORR electrocatalysts ever reported. In the cathode of a Zinc-air battery, Bi-Pd metallene could achieve an open-circuit voltage of 1.546 V and keep stable for 760 h at 10 mA cm-2. Theoretical calculations suggest that the BCT between Pd surface and *OO intermediates greatly affects the bond length between them (dPd-*OO) and Bi doping could appropriately reduce the amount of BCT and stretch the dPd-*OO, thus enhancing the ORR activity.

Abstract
We report a general concurrent template strategy for precise synthesis of mesoporous Pt-/Pd-based intermetallic nanoparticles with desired morphology and ordered mesostructure. The concurrent template not only supplies a mesoporous metal seed for re-crystallization growth of atomically ordered intermetallic phases with unique atomic stoichiometry but also provides a nanoconfinement environment for nanocasting synthesis of mesoporous nanoparticles with ordered mesostructure and rhombic dodecahedral morphology under elevated temperature. Using the selective hydrogenation of 3-nitrophenylacetylene as a proof-of-concept catalytic reaction, mesoporous intermetallic PtSn nanoparticles exhibited remarkably controllable intermetallic phase-dependent catalytic selectivity and excellent catalytic stability. This work provides a very powerful strategy for precise preparation of ordered mesoporous intermetallic nanocrystals for application in selective catalysis and fuel cell electrocatalysis.

Abstract
Advanced electrocatalysts for complete oxidation of ethylene glycol (EG) in direct EG fuel cells are strongly desired owing to the higher energy efficiency. Herein, Pd-PdSe heterostructural nanosheets (Pd-PdSe HNSs) have been successfully fabricated via a one-step approach. These Pd-PdSe HNSs feature unique electronic and geometrical structures, in which unconventional p-d hybridization interactions and tensile strain effect co-exist. Compared with commercial Pd/C and Pd NSs catalysts, Pd-PdSe HNSs display 5.5 (6.6) and 2.5 (2.6) fold enhancement of specific (mass) activity for the EG oxidation reaction (EGOR). Especially, the optimum C1 pathway selectivity of Pd-PdSe HNSs reaches 44.3 %, illustrating the superior C-C bond cleavage ability. Electrochemical in situ FTIR spectroscopy and theoretical calculations demonstrate that the extraordinary p-d hybridization interaction and tensile strain effect could effectively reduce the activation energy of C-C bond breaking and accelerate CO* oxidation, boosting the complete oxidation of EG and improving the catalytic performance.

Abstract
Characterized by long-range atomic ordering, well-defined stoichiometry, and controlled crystal structure, intermetallics have attracted increasing attention in the area of chemical synthesis and catalytic applications. Liquid-phase synthesis of intermetallics has arisen as the promising methodology due to its precise control over size, shape, and resistance toward sintering compared with the traditional metallurgy. This short review tends to provide perspectives on the liquid-phase synthesis of intermetallics in terms of both thermodynamics and methodology, as well as its applications in various catalytic reactions. Specifically, basic thermodynamics and kinetics in the synthesis of intermetallics will be first discussed, followed by discussing the main factors that will affect the formation of intermetallics during synthesis. The application of intermetallics in electrocatalysis will be demonstrated case by case at last. We conclude the review with perspectives on the future developments with respect to both synthesis and catalytic applications.

Abstract
Alloying is a general strategy for modulating the electronic structures of catalyst materials. Compared to more common solid-solution alloys, intermetallic alloys feature well-defined atomic arrangements and provide the unique platform for studying the structure-performance correlations. It is, unfortunately, synthetically challenging to prepare the nanostructures of intermetallic alloys for catalysis research. In this contribution, we prepare intermetallic Pd3 Bi nanocrystals of a uniform size via a facile solvothermal method. These nanocrystals can phase-transform into solid solution alloy via thermal annealing while retaining a similar composition and size. In 0.1 M KHCO3 aqueous solution, the intermetallic Pd3 Bi can selectively reduce CO2 to formate with high selectivity (≈100 %) and stability even at <-0.35 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode, whereas the solid solution alloy has limited formate selectivity of <60 %. Such unique phase-dependence is understood via theoretical simulations showing that the crystallographic ordering of Pd and Bi atoms within intermetallic alloys can suppress CO poisoning and enhance the *OCHO adsorption during electrochemical CO2 reduction to formate.
