Abstract
Asymmetric Suzuki-Miyaura cross-couplings with aryl boronic acids and allylic electrophiles are a powerful method to convert racemic mixtures into enantioenriched products. Currently, enantioconvergent allylic arylations are limited to substrates that are symmetrical about the allylic unit, and the absence of strategies to control regio-, E/Z- and enantioselectivity in acyclic allylic systems is a major restriction. Here, using a system capable of either conjugate addition or allylic arylation, we have discovered the structural features and experimental conditions that allow an acyclic system to undergo chemo- and regioselective, enantioconvergent allylic Suzuki-Miyaura-type arylation. A wide variety of boronic acid coupling partners can be used, and both alkyl and aromatic substituents are tolerated on the allylic unit so that a wide variety of structures can be obtained. Preliminary mechanistic studies reveal that the chelating ability of the ester group is crucial to obtaining high regio- and enantioselectivity. Using this method, we were able to synthesize the natural products (S)-curcumene and (S)-4,7-dimethyl-1-tetralone and the clinically used antidepressant sertraline (Zoloft).

Abstract
The present account summarises routes to tetralones, tetralines, and naphthalenes based on the chemistry of xanthates developed in the authors' laboratory. The degenerative reversible transfer of xanthates allows radical addition even to unactivated, electronically unbiased alkenes, and tolerates a broad range of functional groups, in particular common polar groups such as esters, ketones, nitriles, amides, carbamates, etc. Xanthates also allow radical ring closures onto aromatic rings. This feature, in combination with the intermolecular addition to alkenes, can be used to construct tetralones and tetralines. With the appropriate appendages, the former can be converted into napthalenes with a variety of substitution patterns. This translates into a convergent approach to a vast array of building blocks of interest to the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries, and to material sciences.

Abstract
Covering: 2000 to 2021Lignan natural products are found in many different plant species and possess numerous useful biological properties, such as anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antioxidant, antibacterial, and antitumor activities. Their utility in both traditional and conventional medicine, coupled with their structural diversity has made them popular synthetic targets over many decades. This review specifically addresses the cyclolignan subclass of the family, which possess both a C8-C8' and a C2-C7' linkage between two different phenylpropene units. We present a comprehensive overview of the diverse strategies employed by chemists to achieve enantioselective total syntheses of cyclolignans covering: 2000 to 2021.

Abstract
Diastereo- and enantioselective construction of vicinal tertiary and quaternary carbon centers is a great challenge in synthetic chemistry. Herein, we report a facile and efficient protocol to construct vicinal tertiary and quaternary chiral carbon centers in high yields with high regio-, diastereo- and enantioselectivities via Pd-catalyzed umpolung asymmetric allylic alkylation of hydrazones with monosubstituted allyl reagents by using Kündig-type chiral N-heterocyclic carbene as the ligand. The control experiments revealed that the reaction proceeds via the inner-sphere mechanism.

Abstract
A one-pot synthesis of dihydronaphthalenes and arylnaphthalenes from epoxides and common dipolarophiles is described. The reaction proceeds through photoredox activation of epoxides to carbonyl ylides, which undergo concerted [3 + 2] dipolar cycloaddition with dipolarophiles to provide tetrahydrofurans or 2,5-dihydrofurans. In the same flask, acid promoted rearrangement affords densely functionalized dihydronaphthalenes and arylnaphthalenes, respectively, in an overall redox-neutral sequence of transformations. Succinct total synthesis (4-6 steps) of pycnanthulignene B and C and justicidin E are reported.

Herein, we detail a unified synthetic approach to the classical lignan family of natural products that hinges on divergence from a common intermediate that was strategically identified from nature's biosynthetic blueprints. Efforts toward accessing the common intermediate through a convergent and modular approach resulted in the discovery of a sterically encumbered photoredox catalyst that can selectively generate carbonyl ylides from electron-rich epoxides. These can undergo concerted [3 + 2] dipolar cycloadditions to afford tetrahydrofurans, which were advanced (2–4 steps) to at least one representative natural product or natural product scaffold within all six subtypes in classical lignans. The application of those synthetic blueprints to the synthesis of heterolignans bearing unnatural functionality was demonstrated, which establishes the potential of this strategy to accelerate structure–activity-relationship studies of these natural product frameworks and their rich biological activity.

Abstract
Numerous oxidative transformations of lignan structures have been reported in the literature. In this paper we present an overview on the current findings in the field. The focus is put on transformations targeting a specific structure, a specific reaction, or an interconversion of the lignan skeleton. Oxidative transformations related to biosynthesis, antioxidant measurements, and total syntheses are mostly excluded. Non-metal mediated as well as metal mediated oxidations are reported, and mechanisms based on hydrogen abstractions, epoxidations, hydroxylations, and radical reactions are discussed for the transformation and interconversion of lignan structures. Enzymatic oxidations, photooxidation, and electrochemical oxidations are also briefly reported.

Abstract
The development of a triflimide-catalyzed annulation of benzylic alcohols with allylsilanes for the synthesis of indane or tetralin structures is reported. In this fragment coupling reaction, complexity is built rapidly from readily available starting materials to yield diverse sets of products with up to three contiguous stereocenters. Indanes or tetralins can be generated from common precursors depending on the structure of the allylsilane reagent used. The concise synthesis of several lignan natural products highlights the utility of this newly devised methodology.

Abstract
A series of new polysubstituted derivatives of 2-tetralones possessing two ester groups were synthesized via a tandem aldol condensation-Diels–Alder-aromatization sequence of reactions. All the three steps took place in one pot and in the presence of aminofunctionalized silica coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles as the catalyst. In situ formed dienes reacted with diethyl acetylenedicarboxylate at room temperature and the process was followed by spontaneous aromatization of the cycloadducts to produce high yields of the final tetralone products. Further studies suggest that the process goes through an initial aldol condensation-cycloaddition sequence followed by oxidation and rearrangement steps. After completion of the reactions, the catalyst could be recycled and reused efficiently in subsequent reactions.
