Abstract
Radical C-H aminations enable rapid access to the most common heterocycles in medicines (e.g. pyrrolidines), yet stereocontrol of these powerful transformations remains a challenge. Here, we report the discovery of the first enantio- and regio- selective C-H imination, which readily converts ketones to enantioenriched pyrrolidines. This enantioselective Hofmann-Löffler-Freytag reaction mechanism entails iminyl radical generation from an oxime by a chiral Cu catalyst that facilitates 1,5-H-atom transfer (HAT) to form a remote C-radical, regioselectively. The selective capture of this alkyl radical as an organocopper(III) complex then mediates highly stereoselective reductive elimination to unprotected pyrrolines. The broad steric and electronic scope of this remote C-H amination has been probed systematically, along with key mechanistic aspects of enantiodetermination, radical intermediacy, and atypical Cu(III) ligands that enable this uniquely selective C-N coupling. Importantly, either (1) reductions or (2) nucleophilic additions to these enantioenriched pyrrolines provide the most rapid syntheses of chiral pyrrolidines to date.

Abstract
Starting from N-acyl sulfonimidamides, mechanochemically generated rhodium nitrenoids undergo intramolecular N-O couplings to provide unprecedented 1,3,2,4-oxathiadiazole 3-oxides in good to excellent yields. The cyclization proceeds efficiently with a catalyst loading of only 0.5 mol % in the presence of phenyliodine(III) diacetate (PIDA) as oxidant. Neither an inert atmosphere nor additional heating is required in this solvent-free procedure. Under heat or blue light, the newly formed five-membered heterocycles function as nitrene precursors reacting with sulfoxides as exemplified by the imidation of dimethyl sulfoxide.

Abstract
C2-Symmetrical scaffolds are privileged ligands in metal catalysis and are also widely used in organocatalysis. Among these, 2,5-disubstituted pyrrolidines hold a paramount importance, especially since they also find application in medicinal chemistry. This review highlights the stereoselective syntheses of these C2-symmetrical nitrogen heterocycles. It includes synthetic strategies based on the use of the chiral pool as well as the more recent sequences designed following major achievements in asymmetric catalysis.

Abstract
The stereoselective synthesis of cyclobutanes that possess an array of stereocenters in a contiguous fashion has attracted the wide interest of the synthetic community. Cyclobutanes can be generated from the contraction of pyrrolidines through the formation of 1,4-biradical intermediates. Little else is known about the reaction mechanism of this reaction. Here, we unveil the mechanism for this stereospecific synthesis of cyclobutanes by means of density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The rate-determining step of this transformation corresponds to the release of N2 from the 1,1-diazene intermediate to form an open-shell singlet 1,4-biradical. The formation of the stereoretentive product is explained by the barrierless collapse of this open-shell singlet 1,4-biradical. The knowledge of the reaction mechanism is used to predict that the methodology could be amenable to the synthesis of [2]-ladderanes and bicyclic cyclobutanes.
