Six-component synthesis and biological activity of novel spiropyridoindolepyrrolidine derivatives: A combined experimental and theoretical investigation

Petasites hybridus rhizome water extract was used as green media for the preparation of Ag/Fe₃O₄/CdO@multi-walled carbon nanotubes magnetic nanocomposites (Ag/Fe₃O₄/CdO@MWCNTs MNCs), and its activity was evaluated by using in the one-pot multicomponent reaction of isatins, acetyl chloride, secondary amines, vinilidene Meldrum’s acid, primary amines, and malononitrile in an aqueous medium at room temperature for the generation of spiropyridoindolepyrrolidine as new derivatives with tremendous output. In addition, organic pollutant reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) was carried out by generated Ag/Fe₃O₄/CdO@MWCNTs in water at room temperature. The results displayed that Ag/Fe₃O₄/CdO@MWCNTs were reduced as pollutants of organic compounds in a short time. The synthesized spiropyridoindolepyrrolidine has an NH₂ functional group that has acidic hydrogen and shows high antioxidant ability. Also, the spiropyridoindolepyrrolidine exhibited antimicrobial ability, and the method that is used for this purpose is the disk diffusion method, and two kinds of bacteria, Gram-positive and Gram-negative, were employed for this analysis. Also, to better understand the reaction mechanism density, functional theory-based quantum chemical methods have been applied. For the generation of spiropyridoindolepyrrolidine, the used process has many properties such as reactions with short time, product with good yields, and simple extraction of catalyst from the mixture of reaction.

The development of imin-based tandem Michael-Mannich cyclocondensation through a single-electron transfer (SET)/energy transfer (EnT) pathway in the use of methylene blue (MB+) as a photo-redox catalyst

A four-component green tandem approach for the metal-free synthesis of polyfunctionalized dihydro-2-oxypyrroles was devised using the Michael–Mannich cyclocondensation of amines, dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylaes, and formaldehyde. Photo-excited state functions generated from methylene blue (MB⁺) were employed as single-electron transfer (SET) and energy transfer (EnT) catalysts at ambient temperature in an ethanol solvent, employing visible light as a renewable energy source in the air atmosphere. This study aims to increase the usage of a non-metal cationic dye that is both inexpensive and widely available. Methylene blue is photochemically produced with the least amount of a catalyst due to its high yields, energy-effectiveness, high atom economy, time-saving features of the reaction, and operational simplicity. As a result, a variety of ecological and long-term chemical features are achieved. Surprisingly, such cyclization can be done on a gram scale, implying that the process has industrial potential.

Magnetic nanocatalysts as multifunctional platforms in cancer therapy through the synthesis of anticancer drugs and facilitated Fenton reaction

Background

Heterocyclic compounds have always been used as a core portion in the development of anticancer drugs. However, there is a pressing need for developing inexpensive and simple alternatives to high-cost and complex chemical agents-based catalysts for large-scale production of heterocyclic compounds. Also, development of some smart platforms for cancer treatment based on nanoparticles (NPs) which facilitate Fenton reaction have been widely explored by different scientists. Magnetic NPs not only can serve as catalysts in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds with potential anticancer properties, but also are widely used as smart agents in targeting cancer cells and inducing Fenton reactions.

Aim of Review

Therefore, in this review we aim to present an updated summary of the reports related to the main clinical or basic application and research progress of magnetic NPs in cancer as well as their application in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds as potential anticancer drugs. Afterwards, specific tumor microenvironment (TME)-responsive magnetic nanocatalysts for cancer treatment through triggering Fenton-like reactions were surveyed. Finally, some ignored factors in the design of magnetic nanocatalysts- triggered Fenton-like reaction, challenges and future perspective of magnetic nanocatalysts-assisted synthesis of heterocyclic compounds and selective cancer therapy were discussed.Key Scientific Concepts of Review:This review may pave the way for well-organized translation of magnetic nanocatalysts in cancer therapy from the bench to the bedside.

Iodonium salts as efficient iodine(iii)-based noncovalent organocatalysts for Knorr-type reactions

Hypervalent iodine(iii)-derivatives display higher catalytic activity than other aliphatic and aromatic iodine(i)- or bromine(i)-containing substrates for a Knorr-type reaction of N-acetyl hydrazides with acetyl acetone to give N-acyl pyrazoles. The highest activity was observed for dibenziodolium triflate, for which 10 mol% resulted in the generation of N-acyl pyrazole from acyl hydrazide and acetyl acetone typically at 50 °C for 3.5-6 h with up to 99% isolated yields. 1H NMR titration data and DFT calculations indicate that the catalytic activity of the iodine(iii) is caused by the binding with a ketone.

One-Pot Multicomponent Reaction of Catechols, Ammonium Acetate, and Aldehydes for the Synthesis of Benzoxazole Derivatives Using the Fe(III)-Salen Complex

The Fe(III)-salen complex has been applied successfully as a catalyst for the novel, simple, efficient, and one-pot multicomponent synthesis of benzoxazole derivatives from catechols, ammonium acetate as the nitrogen source, and aldehydes (nontoxic and cheap alternatives of amines) for the first time. Using this procedure, a wide range of benzoxazoles was successfully synthesized in the presence of a catalyst in EtOH under mild conditions, and all products were obtained in excellent yields. To the best of our knowledge, this method is the first example of the multicomponent synthesis of benzoxazole derivatives using these starting materials. The notable features such as the use of air that is considered as a benign oxidant and EtOH as a green solvent, ease of product separation, readily available and inexpensive aldehydes, and mild conditions make our procedure more efficient and practical for organic synthesis. Moreover, the current protocol is successfully applied to synthesize desirable products on a large scale.

A systematic review on silica-, carbon-, and magnetic materials-supported copper species as efficient heterogeneous nanocatalysts in "click" reactions

In recent years, many inorganic silica/carbon-based and magnetic materials have been selected to arrest copper ions through a widespread range of anchoring and embedding methodologies. These inorganic supported nanocatalysts have been found to be efficient, environmentally friendly, recyclable, and durable. In addition, one of the vital issues for expanding new, stable, and reusable catalysts is the discovery of unique catalysts. The basis and foundation of this review article is to consider the recently published developments (2014-2019) in the synthesis and catalytic applications of copper supported by silica nanocomposites, carbon nanocomposites, and magnetic nanocomposites for expanding the "click" chemistry.
