Abstract
Alginate-chitosan/hydroxyapatite (Alg-Cs/HAP) beads were prepared as adsorbent to remove methylene blue (MB) and copper ions from an aqueous solution using a batch system. FTIR, TGA, point of zero charge (pHpzc), SEM, XRD, and BET analysis were used to characterize the elaborated material. The effect of several parameters such as initial pH value, adsorbent dose, temperature, contact time, and initial pollutant concentration were also investigated. The obtained results showed that Alg-Cs/HAP exhibit excellent adsorption properties for Cu (II) and MB removal, with high adsorption capacities of copper ions (208.34 mg/g) and methylene blue (454.54 mg/g). The kinetic of the adsorption process is correlated with the pseudo-first-order for methylene blue and the pseudo-second-order for copper ions. The equilibrium data for MB dye fitted the Freundlich isotherm model, thus implying that the adsorption process consists of multilayer adsorption as well as interactions between the adsorbate and the adsorbent. The equilibrium data for copper ions corresponds closely with the Langmuir model which suggests that the adsorbed molecules occur over a monolayer. Various thermodynamic parameters such as the standard Gibbs energy (ΔG°), standard enthalpy (ΔH°), and standard entropy (ΔS°) were calculated. All results indicated that Alg-Cs/HAP material has a good potential for the treatment of wastewater.

Abstract
The excess fluoride in drinking water is serious risk which leads to fluorosis. The adsorption method is facile route for defluoridation studies. Hybrid adsorbent possesses unique advantages like high surface area and high stability has been employed for water treatment. In the present work, hydrotalcite (HT) fabricated Ce-metal organic frameworks (MOFs) bridged with biopolymers (alginate and chitosan) namely HT-CeMOFs@Alg-CS cubic hybrid beads was developed and employed towards fluoride removal in batch mode. The fabricated HT-CeMOFs@Alg-CS beads were analyzed by DTA, FTIR, SEM, EDAX, TGA and XRD studies. Besides, FTIR and EDAX proved the affinity of HT-CeMOFs@Alg-CS cubic hybrid beads on fluoride was majorly attributed by electrostatic interaction, ion-exchange and complexation mechanism. To include detail insight into adsorption route; the kinetics, thermodynamic and isotherm studies were investigated for fluoride adsorption. The equilibrium data of HT-CeMOFs@Alg-CS cubic hybrid beads for fluoride adsorption was fitted with Langmuir isotherm model. Thermodynamic investigation results demonstrated that the fluoride adsorption was spontaneous with endothermic nature. The regeneration and field investigation results revealed that the developed HT-CeMOFs@Alg-CS cubic hybrid beads are reusable and more apt at field environment.

Abstract
Removal of multi-ionic contaminants from water resources has been a major challenge faced during the treatment of water for drinking and industrial applications. In the present study, varying composition of magnesium doped hydroxyapatite (Mg-HAp) and zeolite nanocomposite embedded porous polymeric beads were synthesized using solvent displacement method and its sorption efficiency towards multi-ion contaminant (such as Ag, Al, As, Ba, Be, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Se, Tl, Th, U, V and Zn) was investigated in aqueous solution and spiked groundwater. The prepared beads were characterized using suitable techniques like high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) equation. The surface area and pore radius of the beads varied from 6.996 to 66.469 m2/g and 1.698-3.960 nm respectively according to the composition of the bead. The control bead without nanocomposite showed maximum surface area. Multi-ion adsorptions onto beads were confirmed using an inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrophotometer (ICP-OES) and X-ray photoelectron spectrophotometer (XPS). The sorption efficiency was high at pH 5 owing to its anionic surface charge leading to an increase in affinity towards the cations. For validating field application, selected high performance beads were tested in multi-ion spiked groundwater. The results indicated that the Mg-HAp nanocomposite bead dominate all the other bead compositions with more than 90% removal efficiency for most of the multi-ion contaminants. The feasible adsorption mechanism has been discussed. This adsorption study revealed that the Mg-HAp nanocomposite bead is a promising material that is cost-effective, non-toxic, biodegradable, eco-friendly and highly efficient towards the removal of multi-ionic contaminants from groundwater.

Abstract
The promising adsorbent like graphene oxide (GO), chitosan (CS) and amine functionalized graphene oxide (AGO) decorated chitosan (CS) namely AGO@CS composite beads was efficiently prepared for defluoridation studies. The prepared AGO@CS composite beads possess enriched defluoridation capacity (DC) of 4650 mgF- kg-1. Batch method was used to optimize the maximum DC of AGO@CS composite beads. The physicochemical properties of AGO@CS composite beads were explored by numerous instrumental techniques viz., FTIR, Raman, XPS, SEM and TGA investigation. The experimental values of AGO@CS composite beads for fluoride removal at various temperature conditions were assessed with adsorption isotherms, kinetic and thermodynamic studies. The possible defluoridation mechanism of AGO@CS beads was mostly proposed that electrostatic attraction. Abstract
A novel three-dimensional aluminum sludge/polyvinyl alcohol/sodium alginate(AS/PA/SA) gel spheres were designed and prepared for uranium(VI) adsorption, and it overcomes the shortcomings of poor recycling of powdery aluminum sludge adsorbent and poor stability of sodium alginate. Experiments show that the P-S-AS has a good pH range for removal of uranium (4-5). Fitting experimental data with pseudo-first-order kinetic model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model shows that the adsorption of U(VI) by P-S-AS is a chemical action. The fit of the Langmuir isotherm model and Freundlich isotherm model to the experimental data found that the P-S-AS adsorbed U(VI) to a single layer. Thermodynamic analysis shows that the adsorption occurs spontaneously, and an increase in temperature is favorable for the adsorption of uranium by the P-S-AS. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis of the P-S-AS before and after adsorption showed that the main adsorption mechanism was the complexation reaction between functional groups and U(VI), the bonding reaction between metal oxides and U(VI).

Abstract
Alginate-based composites have been extensively studied for applications in energy and environmental sectors due to their biocompatible, nontoxic, and cost-effective properties. This review is designed to provide an overview of the synthesis and application of alginate-based composites. In addition to an overview of current understanding of alginate biopolymer, gelation process, and cross-linking mechanisms, this work focuses on adsorption mechanisms and performance of different alginate-based composites for the removal of various pollutants including dyes, heavy metals, and antibiotics in water and wastewater. While encapsulation in alginate gel beads confers protective benefits to engineered nanoparticles, carbonaceous materials, cells and microbes, alginate-based composites typically exhibit enhanced adsorption performance. The physical and chemical properties of alginate-based composites determine the effectiveness under different application conditions. A series of alginate-based composites and their physicochemical and sorptive properties have been summarized. This critical review not only summarizes recent advances in alginate-based composites but also presents a perspective of future work for their environmental applications.
