Stabilization of NH- Group Adjacent to Naked Silicon(II) Atom in Base Stabilized Aminosilylenes. Angew Chem Int Ed Engl 2024; 63:e202317416. Abstract
Aminosilylene, comprising reactive NH- and Si(II) sites next to each other, is an intriguing class of compounds due to its ability to show diverse reactivity. However, stabilizing the reactive NH- group next to the free Si(II) atom is challenging and has not yet been achieved. Herein, we report the first examples of base stabilized free aminosilylenes Ar*NHSi(PhC(Nt Bu)2 ) (1 a) and Mes*NHSi(PhC(Nt Bu)2 ) (1 b) (Ar*=2,6-dibenzhydryl-4-methylphenyl and Mes*=2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenyl), tolerating a NH- group next to the naked Si(II) atom. Remarkably, 1 a and 1 b exhibited interesting differences in their reactivity upon heating. With 1 a, an intramolecular C(sp3 )-H activation of one of the benzhydryl methine hydrogen atoms to the Si(II) atom produced the five-membered cyclic silazane 2. However, with 1 b, a rare 1,2-hydrogen shift to the Si(II) atom afforded a silanimine 3, with a hydride ligand attached to an unsaturated silicon atom. Further, the coordination capabilities of 1 a were also tested with Ru(II) and Fe(0) precursors. Treatments of 1 a with [Ru(η6 -p-cymene)Cl2 ]2 led to the isolation of a η6 -arene tethered complex [RuCl2 {Ar*NHSi(PhC(t BuN)2 )-κ1 -Si-η6 -arene}] (4), whereas with the Fe(CO)5 precursor a Fe(0) complex [Fe(CO)4 {Ar*NHSi(PhC(t BuN)2 )-κ1 -Si}] (5) was obtained. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were conducted to shed light on the structural, bonding, and energetic aspects in 1-5.

Abstract
The reactivity of the base-free bromosilylene dtbpCbzSiBr (dtbpCbz = 1,8-bis(3,5-di-tert-butylphenyl)-3,6-di-tert-butylcarbazolyl) toward carbodiimides and azides was studied in order to generate base-stabilized and base-free silaimidoyl bromides, respectively. The steric bulk of carbodiimides and azides allows control over the reactivity. While with small substituents such as tert-butyl or adamantyl, the reactions cannot be stopped at the Si═N stage, with large substituents, they lead to C-H activation in the product. The Dipp substituent (Dipp = 2,6-diisopropylphenyl) allowed the isolation of the silaimidoyl bromide dtbpCbzSi(Br)NDipp and its CNDipp-coordinated analogue. The reactivity of the Si═N double bond species was studied with respect to cycloaddition and donor exchange reactions.

Abstract
The mono-base-stabilized 1,2-diboranylidenehydrazine derivatives featuring a 1,3-dipolar BNN skeleton are obtained by dehydrobromination of [ArB(Br)NH]2 (Ar = 2,6-diphenylphenyl (Dpp), Ar = 2,6-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)phenyl (Dmp) or Ar = 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenyl (Mes*)) with N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs). Depending on the Ar substituents, such species can be isolated as a crystalline solid (Ar = Mes*) or generated as reactive intermediates undergoing spontaneous intramolecular aminoboration of the proximal arene rings via [3 + 2] cycloaddition (Ar = Dpp or Dmp). The latter reactions showcase the 1,3-dipolar reactivity toward unactivated arenes at ambient temperature. In addition, double cycloaddition of the isolable BNN species with two CO2 molecules affords a bicyclic species consisting of two fused five-membered BN2CO rings. The electronic structures of these BNN species and the mechanisms of these cascade reactions are interrogated through density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

Abstract
Reaction of the bicyclo[1.1.0]tetrasilatetraamide Si4 {N(SiMe3 )Dipp}4 1 (Dipp=2,6-diisopropylphenyl) with 5 equiv of the N-heterocyclic carbene NHCMe4 (1,3,4,5-tetramethylimidazol-2-ylidene) affords a bifunctional carbene-coordinated four-membered-ring compound with a Si=N group and a two-coordinate silicon atom Si4 {N(SiMe3 )Dipp}2 (NHCMe4 )2 (NDipp) 2. When 2 reacts with 0.25 equiv sulfur (S8 ), two sulfur atoms add to the divalent silicon atom in plane and perpendicular to the plane of the Si4 ring, which confirms the silylone character of the two-coordinate silicon atom in 2.

Abstract
Since the discovery of the first stable N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) in the beginning of the 1990s, these divalent carbon species have become a common and available class of compounds, which have found numerous applications in academic and industrial research. Their important role as two-electron donor ligands, especially in transition metal chemistry and catalysis, is difficult to overestimate. In the past decade, there has been tremendous research attention given to the chemistry of low-coordinate main group element compounds. Significant progress has been achieved in stabilization and isolation of such species as Lewis acid/base adducts with highly tunable NHC ligands. This has allowed investigation of numerous novel types of compounds with unique electronic structures and opened new opportunities in the rational design of novel organic catalysts and materials. This Review gives a general overview of this research, basic synthetic approaches, key features of NHC-main group element adducts, and might be useful for the broad research community.

Abstract
Carbenes are known for their ability to abstract HCl from hydrochlorosilanes to form carbene hydrochloride adducts. In contrast, the Si-H bond insertion products RSiCl2(cAACH) (2, 4, 6, and 8) have been formed in the reaction of RSiHCl2 [R = Ar(SiMe3)N (1), Cp* (3), PhC(NtBu)2 (5), Cl (7); Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H3] with a cyclic alkyl(amino) carbene (cAAC:) irrespective of the steric demand of the R group. The new products have been characterized by various analytical tools including X-ray crystallography, electron ionization mass spectrometry, and NMR spectroscopy. Theoretical investigations have also been performed to understand why cAAC prefers insertion into the Si-H bond rather than the dehydrohalogenation pathway.
